Remscheid, Muengsten Bridge, Germany - 12th June 2009
it was raining the whole week, today the sun came out finally.
So we decided to take a walk to Muengsten Bridge, which is the highest railway bridge of Germany.
To get there we had to walk through the town, than through a forrest and than downhill, also through a forrest.
Here we are still in a housing area, but it is already looking more rural hiere.
I like it here, it's looking great here with horses on pasture land.
Soon we reached the forrest. Here you can find a nature trail with informations about plants, local animals and more. Here is an information plate showing local owls and birds of prey.
These are nesting boxes for several birds.
Have a look at this beautiful foxglove.
In this part of the forrest you have mostly beech groves.
This old beech is so large that we could not take a photo of the whole tree.
We rested for a while on a bench.
Katja told us that Muengsten Bridge is overspanning the valley of river Wupper connecting the citiesof Remscheid and Solingen. It is 465 m long and 107 m high. It was finished in 1897.
We reached river Wupper first.
In the background you can see a cable ferry. You can cross river Wupper here. To get the ferry to the other side two people have to activate a mechanism similar to a handcar.
Finally, here you can see me underneath the bridge.
We went home by bus. On our way to our home we saw these pretty old houses.
