Hi Mom,

after some days with rainy weather it became better today, so we took a walk after work in another landscape park. In Wuppertal-Barmen this time. We visited Barmer Anlagen, a park which was created since the year 1864 along the South slope of Wupper valley in the district Barmen. Barmen merged with four other cities in 1929 to what is now Wuppertal.

For 150 years now it is supervised and cared by a society of citizens. This park is the second largest park in Germany (behind the English GArden in Munich) which is in private hands.Parts of it are created like what we know as a park, and there are large woodland areas as well. The whole park area is about 3 km².



Once a railway line was leading to the top of the slope, the railway line was closed in 1959. Nowadays the former route is recreated by steles.







You can find about 25 memorials within the whole park area, like this one dedicated to the dead of World War I.

The park is divided by a road.



The following part of the park is more downhill, towards the city of Barmen.
