When the Middle Ages ended and Modern Times began, castles became kind of obsolete, so they have three posibilities what to turn into: mansions, fortresses, or ruins.

Prague Castle turned into a mansion or palace complex, so the other castle in Prague - Vyšehrad (literally High Castle) turned into a fortress, or maybe a hill fort.

St Peter and St Paul's Church is one of Vyšehrad's dominants.




A sculpture by Josef Václav Myslbek depicts Přemysl and Libuše,  alleged founders of Přemyslides dynasty (which died off in male tail in 1306, but its descendants ruled Czech lands until 1918).
