found on the steps of the monk bar in york. She has been taken into care to be introduced to our children, though she has travelled to Whitby with us and enjoyed a walk on the beach. Photos to be uploaded soon.

Mavis on her holiday on the way to france at Dover, she stowed away in the panniers of my Bike, Alerted by knocking from the cases, I have let her out. And here we are waiting to load at Dover onto a SeaFrance ferry.

Possibly on the french side of the channel, but here we are on deck of the Sea France ferry, Renoir, enjoying a sea breeze. So close you can smell the garlic!

08:00. Well, after nearly running out of fuel, and not doing a good job of finding the hotel, which compounded the fuel situation, we arrived 300 miles from Calais in Blois, in the Loire valley.
Mavis was suitably impressed, though not at the thought of pushing the bike to a petrol station I think we have about 0.5 litres left. She standing on the steps that overlook the road heading south over the Loire, we are going for walk next.

08:30, Mavis looking suitably chilled on the banks of the Loire with the town of Blois behind her. Very pleasant indeed. Behind are a lot of old buildings including the Cathedrale St-Louis and the Hotel de ville.

13:00, We have stopped at a service station heading south to Albi. The weather has been very nice, we got a bit lost, and drove through the grounds of a lovely chateau at Chambord, we will have to visit sometime ,but for now we have a lot of miles to do and a thunderstorm to ride through, nice! Missing my usually pillion, Alison, but Mavis is keeping me company.

07:30, well here we are, wish I hadn't bothered. We got a bit wet just north of Toulouse yesterday, but nothing serious.
Albi is definately worth passing through on the Autoroute! But the Cathedrale behind and the river Tarn were nice. Next stop Cordes and then Rocamadour, not many miles but all D roads. Mavis is looking forward to Sarlat, as I am.

10:00, We have made good time, and are now in Cordes. Mavis and I are are high-tech, I take the pictures of her and email them on the spot to Alison at home. I hope Alison isn't too jealous of Mavis taking her seat on the bike!
It was quite a climb for us to the top of the village, but was worth the climb. We are going to Rocamadour next.

13:00, Mavis looking over Rocamadour. We didn't do the climb for two reasons, the first was the big black cloud heading up from the south. The second was that there are a lot of steps, and I have carried little Miss "its-to-much-for-my-short-legs" Mavis today. Its time she did some walking!
The place is amazing though and with better weather it will be nice to visit at a more relaxed pace

16:00, at last, journeys end for today. We are checked into the Best Western 200 metres from the medieval town centre. Its time for a wonder and late lunch. Mavis is complaining about amount of time we spend on the bike. She has no idea about tomorrow, we are travelling back in one go. 800 miles.
For now we visit the town, eat and have some orange juice. Its a lovely place. We meet some people from Holland at diner and have a drink with them.

21:00, we have travalled a long way today and still have more to come. Mavis is stood on my Helmet on the SeaFrance ferry, Rodin as we set sail for Dover.
We are both tired, but have enjoyed the trip to France. So far, we have driven 500 miles to get here, and to get back to Alison we have 300 more. I think we will go a find a chair to rest in.

Well, after a long break here's the old goat (I mean the real goat, not Mavis!), I guess this means she's accomplished one for her life missions. Mavis had a lovely day out with the kids, Canon Hall Farm is a great place to visit, it has lots of animals, all well cared for and some opportunities to pet some the animals. Theres nice grounds and an adventure play area too.

After a long rest Mavis has been for an adventure in Rome, she enjoyed the Trevi fountain - she wanted to take a bath in it, but the policeman who had swallowed the whistle wouldn't let her, so instead she just bought some roses, a tripod, squashy toy and a spinning propeller from those very persausive street sellers!
Today she visited  the Spanish Steps and the Villa Borghesse, where she took a ride around on a bicycle.

On her third day in Rome Mavis visited the Ruins of the Forum, then wondered round the colosseum and upto the Capitol, which was nice.
Yesterday she walked along the Tiber, visited the Vatican, watched the crowds from the Spanish Steps and had a chinese meal in a side street close to the Trevi Fountain.
Its off to the airport next.
