Hello Mum!
I am very happy because today I arrived at Bochum. Unfortunately the postman was a little late, so I had to wait into the postbox while host mum and the others went to Sea life. But when they were back, Shilo took my envelope into her living room. I could hear voices from outside and was very curious who will be there. When I got outside, I could see Snowball and Freddi waiting for me. They gave me a warm welcome and hugged me. After that I gave host mum the gummy bears I brought with me. She was very happy about it and wants to thank you for it. Then we took a group picture together. I was very hungry after my trip, so we ate some really yummi “Berliner” Snowball and I shared one, because it was too big for me After that I was so tired that I went to bed. See you soon Your Viper |

Good Morning Mum!
Today started very funny. This afternoon we want to visit some friends from my host parents, to play there some games. Because of that Snowball had the idea to bake a cake for that. Hmm I think this bowl should be big enough. What do you think how much we three weigh together? First we had to put the baking mixture into the bowl. Freddi put it in and I looked if there wasn’t anything left into the bag. Then we needed an egg. I was helping Snowball putting the butter into the bowl And now the milk. I think it’s enough. Ohhh I stuck into the blender. Could somebody help me out? The cake look’s really delicious. While the cake was into the oven, we helped host dad preparing dinner. We were making “Wok-Pfanne” and I opened the tin with the peaches. Hmm it tasted really good when it was done. In the evening we went to the friends from my host parents. When we arrived we were eating the cake before we started playing Puerto Rico. Hmm what should I build next? Hmm this stone seems to be really yummy. Ups I ate half of it. I hope nobody recognizes it. Now I need something to drink Later we were playing Thunderstone. I think I should take this card here. Oh not the best hand This was a wonderful day. See you soon Your Viper |

Hello Mum!
Today we were really hard working. Host mum planned to make spring-cleaning and we wanted to help her. First we started changing the bedclothes. We three had to work together to pull the blanket out of the duvet cover. This is very tiring, because the blanket is really heavy, but we will make it. Yes we made it After that Freddi and I helped Snowball pulling the pillow out of the pillowcase Then we changed the bed sheet You know that I am a very strong snake, so I tried to pull on the new duvet cover on the blanket, on my own. But it wasn’t so easy so the others helped me with it. It took a while but now we the bed is ready and we are very proud that we made it. Then the next challenge started. We planned to put these games to the other games into the game board. I think this should be difficult. Here can you see it? I found a little space for two games. Oh we can’t find any more space for the other games. So we put them aside under this board After that we went on cleaning the bedroom. I took the cleaning rag to clean the window ledge. It made a lot of fun. It was easier to pull it with my tail. And at the end we took the vacuum cleaner. First I started it and then I sat down on the nozzle. It made so much fun. I am glad the bedroom is ready. Now we went on to the kitchen. There I cleaned the spice shelf. The spice smelled really nice. Then we took of the winter decoration from the windows. Shilo wanted to do it two weeks ago, but then she hasn’t got the time for it, so we were going to help her. These stars were sticking on us. But I think we look cute with them. What do you think? Oh mum look. There is a heron on the roof. I haven’t seen one before, it was really cool. Now the kitchen is ready. Shilo was very proud of us, that we helped her so much. After so much work we all were so tired that we fell asleep. Good night |

Good morning Mum.
Today was a great day. Yesterday was host mums birthday, so host dad made a strawberry torte for her. She was so happy about it. I think the cake looks really great. Wow the torte was really yummy. I ate the complete piece of cake. After that we went to a garden Centre to buy some spring flowers. I love this wonderful colorful flowers. Especially the cacti, I haven’t known that they could have so many colors. Can you see me? Wow these stones were really cool In the evening we planned to go to the cinema to watch “One Life”, but before the film started, we went to “Pizza Hut” for dinner. It was really good. Then we got our cinema tickets. But we had to wait a little before we could get in. Do you think the hat could suit me? Snowball, Freddi and I shared one seat. I am so curious how the film will be Oh he film begins, now we have to be silent Oh mum the movie was so great. They showed so many animals and places there. Do you think I can visit some of them on my tour? It would be so cool. Good night Your Viper |

Hello Mum!
Today we went to Oberhausen. Here we visit the Gasometer, with the exhibition “Magic Places – Natural and Cultural Monuments” In this exhibition the UNESCO has counted more than 900 World Heritage Sites which are masterpieces of human architecture and huge monuments of nature. For the first time in an exhibition, “Magic Places” is showing the wonders of nature and culture together. This sounds so great, that we wanted to see it with our own eyes. This relief of a Babylonian Apkallu shows a person with the head of a bird. Such hybrid creatures can be found in the mythology of many cultures. They unite the powers of human beings and animals. This Photo shows the “double-headed serpent” that represents the heavenly deity Xiuhcoatl, an Aztec god. It was made out of wood and covered in a mosaic of turquoise and seashells. Isn’t this snake beautiful? This is a picture from the Khajuraho temple group in the north of India, which was created in the 10th and 11th centuries. Of the original 85 temples dedicated to the gods of Hinduism, 25 still exist. All the temples are richly adorned with sculptures telling of the lives of gods and human beings. The Khajuraho Group of Monuments has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1966. Here we could see a picture from the minaret of the Great Mosque Quwwat UI-Islam in Delhi. It has a enormous height of 73 meters. Qutub Minar with its mosques and tombs in Delhi has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. Oh what an impressive picture. It shows a magnificent tomb called Angkor Wat dedicated to the god Vishnu. In the 14th century the empire of Khmers broke apart and Angkor Wat slipped into obscurity and the jungle spread over the temple. Angkor in Cambodia has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992. Wow, have you ever seen something like this before? This is a Lightning tube. A bolt of lightning had hit the ground and trough the extreme heat the sand were melted. Due to fast cooling down the molten quartz forms natural glass. Here I want to show you some of the wonderful jewelry we saw. This is a tree slice from a redwood tree. It was a present from the First Lady Barbara Bush given to the city Bonn. The slice is 750 years old; 2,5 meters high and 2,7 meters wide. Its weight is 7 tones. 20 little metal panels are mounted to the matching annual rings to remind of important events out of the history of Bonn. At the end of the exhibition we saw the gigantic "Rainforest Tree". This 40 meters high sculpture is a symbol of the beauty, fertility and vulnerability of the eternal cycle of nature. It was really impressive. Hugs and kisses Your Viper |

Good Morning!
Today we had so beautiful weather that we went to the landscape park in Duisburg with Paula Hip and Sam Hop, the two new TV’s from my host mum. In the Landscape Park, extending over an area of about 180 hectares, nature, industrial heritage and a fascinating light installation were combined to create a park landscape unlike any other in the world. At the Centre stands a disused ironworks whose old industrial facilities have today been put to a wide variety of uses. In an old gasometer Europe’s biggest man-made diving Centre has been created and an extinguished blast furnace has been modified to provide a viewing tower. Around the buildings we saw a lot of wonderful spring flowers. We climbed up a small hill to have a look over the park. It was really great here. Wow this bucket is really huge. I think these hedges look like snakes. Don’t you think so? What a wonderful cherry tree Then we climbed up the viewing tower. We were really proud of our host mum. She has a fear of heights, but she went up there to have a look at the great view with us. Isn’t it really impressive here? What a special day. We were really exited what we will experience the next time. Hugs and kisses Your Viper |

Hello Mum!
The last days were really busy. So I didn’t had the time to write you. I’m really sorry about it. But now I want to tell you a little bit about the last days. On Monday we visited the dancing school, were host mum and dad went every week to dance. Wow this room was so big. From here the dancing teacher could control the music. We considered dancing too, but then we changed our mind and watched host mum and dad while they were dancing. The next days we were really busy, because we were helping host mum, sewing a small toy monster. It made a lot of fun. In this box was everything we needed. I hope we will make everything right. First I was reading the instructions Then we copied the artworks and cut them out. I think this looks good. After that we were painting it on the sheets of felt and cut them out. Help….. Help me. I think I am lost between the left over from the felt. Wow mum, doesn’t it look great till now? After so much work, we needed a little break. After that we went on to sew up the head of our new friend. Then we needed the stuffing to fill it. This wasn’t easy but we made it. Great we did it. It took us three days but then our new friend was finished. He is called Domino. Out of these parts, we want to sew Domino a coat the next days. This was a wonderful week and soon we have Easter. I am so curious how it will be. Hugs and kisses Your Viper |

Hello Mum!
Today was a great day. When host dad came with the post into the living room, he had two surprises for us. The first one was an envelope. Inside the envelope was Happy Ping who came back home from his first host Dr. Kröbner, before he went to his new host Leslie in Chile. We hugged him to welcome him home. He is a very nice penguin. Then he showed us the presents he brought with him. And he gave me a chocolate bunny. Then we took a group picture After that host mum took out an envelope with a wonderful card from Freddis mum. In the evening we decided to play a game called “World of Warcraft”. Freddi and I were playing against Happy Ping, Snowball and Sam Hop. We played a shaman. What monster should we fight next? I think I take this one :-) I think it’s a little bit scary between all this monsters Now I want to make this quest. I hope we can win. Freddi was rolling the dices and I placed the hitmarkers on the board Yeah we did it. Now we could lvl up our hero. I didn’t know what spell I should take. This game is not easy, but it made a lot of fun. At the end we decided to call it quit, because it was so late. Now it is time to go to bed. I hope the Easter bunny will bring us some presents tomorrow. Good night Your Viper |

Hello mommy!
I have finally arrived in Canada! My new host is also hosting Mr. Furrington, so he was the one to open my envelope. Here I am! My new friend gave me a welcome hug. So I gave him the flower I'd brought with me! He was really happy! I also met one of my host mom's cats! Then Mr. Furrington told me there was another envelope to open! We decided to work together to open it. We peeked inside... Can you see anything mom? Oh, there she is! It was BineHH, who also just arrived here in Canada! I hugged her. We decided to share the candies I had brought with me. Do you want some mommy? I'm sure I will have lots of fun here with my new friends! I hope you are doing well mom! Love, Viper |

Hey mom!
This morning we decided we should do some activities outside today... but then we looked out the window and saw that the sky was covered in dark grey clouds! We waited a bit to see if it would rain... and it started snowing! So we decided to go out anyway! It was a little bit cold but not too much, so we went to the park. We decided to go play! It was a really fun day! I hope we can come play again soon! Love, Viper xxx |

Hello mommy!
The weather hasn't been very nice lately, it's raining all the time. But today it was sunny and warm so we thought it would be nice to go outside! Host mom said we should go downtown Saint-Hyacinthe to visit. It's an older part of the city, so there are a lot of small boutiques and restaurants and old-looking buildings! We invited one of my host mom's friends and took the bus! And we got off the bus to go walk downtown. First we decided to go to the library to look at the books. There were a lot of books! We even met a friend that lives in the library! Then we decided to go to the market, so we continued walking down the streets. And finally we saw the market! It's the red building at the back. In the summer there are farmers who come here to sell all sorts of fruits and vegetables, but for now the weather is still too cold. So we went inside to see the other sellers. We stopped at the bakery... Everything looks so yummy! Look at all the cool cupcakes! We didn't want to eat anything though because it was almost dinner time, but we took a hot chocolate with Belgian chocolate! We sat at a table to rest for a while. We went back outside and saw a small fountain! Then we decided to go somewhere for dinner. We didn't want to go somewhere too expensive so we went to a small fast-food restaurant and host mom ordered a French-Canadian dish, called "poutine". It's simply french fries and cheese with brown gravy. After dinner we continued to walk around for a while. Then we decided to stop at a bistro to have a smoothie for desert! It was really yummy but now I'm full! The view from the terrace was nice! After that we went to a small park. And we found this memorial for the people who lost their lives during the war... It says "In memory of our glorious who disappeared during the wars". There was also the City Hall beside the park! The sky was getting cloudy again and we were tired so we decided to start walking back to the bus stop to head back home. And we took the bus again! I had a lot of fun today! My host mom said next week-end we should be able to go to Montreal, a big city here in Quebec... I'm looking forward to it! Love, Viper |
Cheshire Posted May 18, 2012, 11:19 pm |
Hey mommy!
Guess what! We visited a new city today! We went to Montreal, a big metropolis here in Quebec. I was excited to visit a new, bigger city. We were supposed to go earlier, but sadly we had to wait a few more days... But we visited a lot of places and took a lot of pictures! We were lucky because it was sunny and warm today... It's been raining a lot lately. We had to take the bus first to go to Longueuil, which is a city located on the South Shore, close to Montreal. Finally, after about an hour long ride, the bus arrived at Longueuil, so we got off and walked through the station to go to the subway station. We went down the stairs to wait for the subway. And finally it arrived! So we got in. We got off two stations later, at the Berri-UQAM station in Montreal. Here is a map of the subway stations. The subway line we had taken is the yellow one. And here is a map of Montreal! As you can see, it's a big island. We had to take another subway to get to our location, so we went up the escalators and followed the signs to the next subway we had to take. We got off at Peel station. And finally we went outside! We went to a library to look at the books and then we went to an underground shopping center. The shopping center was bigger than it looked! There was a big fountain on the first floor! Then we walked through the Eaton Center... which is another shopping center! There was an old-looking telephone booth. The Eaton Center is quite big too! Then we decided to take the subway again to get to another part of the city. We got off at the Place-des-Arts station. The "Place des Arts" is a place where there are a lot of shows and plays, so there was a long corridor with posters of all the upcoming shows and events! And there was another corridor with animations displayed on the walls. It was pretty! Then we walked through the Desjardins Complex... Which is ALSO a shopping center! We got a little lost because we couldn't find the signs that indicated where the subway station was... But fortunately we found a map! And we found our way! We didn't take the subway yet though, we decided to go outside first to walk around and visit more than just shopping centers and subways. :P So we go out from the station, which is beside the Montreal Congress Center. The trees we full of flowers, it was beautiful and it smelled good! And we met some pigeons... There are a lot of them in Montreal! We continued walking. And suddenly I noticed there were signs with Chinese writtings everywhere... So I ask my host mom, had we been walking so long that we were now China?? She said we were actually in Montreal's Chinatown! Which shouldn't really be called "Chinatown", because not all the restaurants and boutiques are Chinese, some are Japanese, Taiwanese, Korean, etc. There was a cute graffiti! There are gates like this with foo lions on most of the streets you can take to enter Chinatown. As soon as you cross the gate you get back to the "normal" town... It's strange but it's fun! We walked back to the subway station to meet with some of my host mom's friends. We got off at Berri-UQAM again to wait for them. Then we decided to go to the "Quartier Latin" (literally translated it would be "Latin Neighbourhood" ) to find a restaurant for dinner. This is the "UQAM", which is the University of Quebec in Montreal. There were all kinds of boutiques and restaurants. Then we saw a really big statue! We finally decided to go to a restaurant called "La Bulle au Carré". It's a French restaurant. There were comic books and games on the tables to read an play while we waited! We looked at the menu. It was hard to choose! There were mostly hamburgers and crepes but they all sounded so good! We decided to play Connect Four while we were waiting for our orders to be ready. Bine agreed to play with me! And I won!! We still had to wait a little bit though. And finally our plates arrived! Dont you think it looks yummy? Well, it was! Then we ordered a crepe to share for desert. It's not really visible on the picture, but the waitor set the crepe on fire after he put it on our table! My host mom told me it was a "crêpe flambée", so it's normal... that reassured me! It was good but now I was really full! After dinner we walked again a bit, and stopped in a park. And finally we got to our final destination: the "Café Campus"! It is a small showbar, and we were going to see a humorists show! We took pictures during the show, but unfortunately they were all dark and blurry because we weren't allowed to use flashs. The show was funny though! It ended late, so we walked back to my host mom's friend's car and went back home to get some rest. I had a really fun day overall! It was nice to visit a new city and we were tired from walking so much but it was worth it! Maybe we can try to go to Montreal again soon... My host mom says there are a lot of other places to visit since it's so big! She also said we will most likely be going on a trip to Gatineau, a city near Ottawa, the capital of Canada, next week-end... It would be fun! I hope you are doing well, Viper |

Hello mom!
Today we found a big envelope in the mailbox! We decided to open it together... It was Shooga, another TV travelling to Canada! We gave her a group hug! She had brought candies with her so we shared them. Then we played with Gaby, one of my host mom's cats! I'm sure we'll have fun with our new friend! Love, Viper |

Hello mommy!
Today we visited one of my host mom's friends. I met a toy that looked just like me, but bigger! I think I'm prettier though. Then we went downstairs to watch a movie, and I noticed something strange... I ask my host mom, why are there plants in a showcase? She told me to look closer... Hey! It's a snake! I met a real snake mom, I completed a first life mission! It's so cool! I'm glad I made new friends today... I hope I'll get to meet more snakes, it was fun! Love, Viper |

Hello mom!
The weather was warm and sunny today so we decided to go outside! We went to Mount Saint-Hilaire, which is about 30 minutes from my host mom's house. There are a few trails that go to the top of the mountain. We chose to take the "Rocky" trail, which is the longest. It takes 4.8km! After a while we saw some water... it was a lake! It's called the "Hertel" lake. I didn't think there would be a lake on a mountain! It was nice. We decided to rest a little. We wanted to stay longer but we had to leave if we wanted to get to the top! Hiking up a mountain is tiring! We had to take a few breaks to be able to keep going. Only 0.5km left! And here we are! Isn't it nice? It's so high! We can see the Yamaska rivers and all the houses and fields from up here! It looks like we're closer to the clouds! We rested a bit because we were tired... And decided to make our way down. ...And we were finally back down the mountain! It was a lot faster to go down than up. Time to go back home now! I was glad to get back home and rest though, I was so tired! And we had a lot of fun. Love, Viper |

Hello mommy,
Today our friend Bine had to leave us to travel to her next host. We were sad to have to say goodbye to her, but I hope she will have a lot of fun in her future adventures. |

Hello!
We decided to do a cake today! So we looked through some recipes and my host said we should try making a mayonnaise chocolate cake. It sounded really weird to put mayonnaise in a cake! But she said it didn't taste weird and it makes the cake really moist so we agreed to try it out! We started gathering the ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, chocolate chips, mayonnaise, water and an egg. Then we gathered a bowl, utensils, measuring cups and a measuring spoon. Now we were ready to begin! First, I preheated the oven. Then my host mom's new TV, Axel, started with the flour. Then Shooga got to add the sugar. I put some cocoa powder. Mr. Furrington decided to add the baking powder. Shooga added the baking soda. And then she had to mix all these together before we added more ingredients! Axel took some mayonnaise to add it to the mix. And Mr. Furrington poured some water. Shooga added the egg... Almost done! I mixed the ingredients again. And then Axel added the last ingredient: chocolate chips! Mr. Furrington mixed everything one last time. My host mom poured the mix into the mold and then we added some more chocolate chips together! It's ready to go into the oven now! It's cooking slowly... And... all done! It looks really yummy now! But it's late now, so I think we should wait for tomorrow before we eat it! |

Hello mommy!
Today is Quebec's National Day! We couldn't go to the celebrations yesterday night, but we decided to go to Montreal today. We had to wait for the bus to arrive. And finally we got on the bus! Then we had to take the subway again. We got off at the "Champ-de-Mars" station. We had to go through a tunnel to get outside the station. Then we followed the signs to go to the "Old Port". On our way, we walked by the Montreal City Hall. We got up the stairs and saw a lot of people were resting beside a fountain. It was refreshing! It was a hot day so we found a spot in the shadow to hide from the sun a bit. We continued walking and got to a plaza. We saw some street performers! There was a mime, and kids were trying to copy him... it was very cute and funny! There were also other talented street performers. And finally we got to the Old Port! This is a big anchor! Can you see me? I'm so small compared to it! We walked through some parts of the old port. There were a lot of boats! And there were horse with carriages on the streets. The horses must be hot, working at such a high temperature! At least they get to rest. There were a lot of small streets full of stores and restaurants. It was nice! We took the subway again because we decided to go watch a movie at the theater! On our way we saw a small cathedral. And finally we got to the theater! We saw the movie Dark Shadows. It was really good! Then we decided to go home because it was raining and we didn't have an umbrella. I had a fun time in Montreal though! And my host mom bought a Quebec flag to celebrate the National Holiday. I hope you are doing well mommy! xxx - Viper |

Hello!
Remember I said last Sunday was the National Quebec Day? Well, today, July 1st is Canada Day! Happy Canada Day!! We thought we could do something special today... My host mom suggested we go to the zoo! It's not related to Canada Day, but it's fun so we agreed! So Mr. Furrington and I went to the Granby Zoo (with our host mom of course!) today! We decided to go see the African animals first. We saw a big rhino! But the elephants were even bigger! Such a big skull... Flamingos... They're so pretty with their pink feathers but they quack just like ducks. It's funny! There weren't many zebras... they were probably resting somewhere in the shadow of the trees. And the bats were eating. The fruits seemed to be very yummy because they all liked them! Look! I'm on a gorilla!... Not a real one of course. These are the skulls of a chimpanzee, a gorilla and a human! Such a big tortoise! And she lives with a nice goose. Now I'm riding a plane! What's this? It's a hippo! They have large skulls too! Then we decided to try out the train ride! Then we found a picnic table to rest and eat a bit. Do you want some radish mommy? Now... where should we go next? Let's go see the Asian animals! This Asian black bear is resting quietly on a rock beside the waterfall... It must be refreshing! We saw some lory birds! These looked like they were kissing. And a Przewalski's horse. Then we went to see the Siberian tigers! A tiger's skull: And there was a fish pond in the tigers' enclosure. There were also some Amur leopards. They are so nice! I was almost eaten by a hippo! They were not real animals though, so it was safe! Then we got to see some snow leopards! They were really beautiful. After that it was almost time for the zoo to close, so we went back home. It was tiring, but it was so fun to see all kinds of animals! I really enjoyed my day. Love, Viper |
