Well he has left in his own little box, after waving a tearful goodbye to Sylvia and Nigel and little fluffy snowy the bunny. Hope it does not take too long, as he is stuffed unceremoniously in a box and travelling all the way to Europe, but the box has been checked and it is fully of breath holes so he should be ok. Looking forward to meeting Aarons family who I know will look after him. He will then travel to Japan, now that is a long way.
Anyway, looking forward to exciting adventures and hope to hear about them soon |
fam-united Posted Mar 9, 2007, 6:09 pm |
What a luck to be out of that small box again!!!! Also it was well prepared, it was so dark and narrow in it.
Oh, I have to tell you something funny. The first thing I did, was sitting in the cupboard, but then I found another toyvoyager. It is Cassiopeia, who will travel to Japan next Monday. And you don't believe, who I met too: Aaron (that's what I thought first). But my host Petra told me then, that it is Aaron's twin sister. Why did Aaron forget to tell me about her???? That's enough for today, I will go to bed. Sabrina will share her bed with me and my new friends. Let's see, what will happen at next. Greetings to my family, I miss you, but I'm happy too. |
fam-united Posted Mar 24, 2007, 8:59 am |
Brrrrrr, what a weather!!!!! I thought, it would be a little better than in England, but then my host told me, that mostly the weather is the same. We had snow here too and now it is raining, raining and raining.
I had a nice time till now anyway. I was with Sabrina's toys and lived in a special house in her room. I will share the photos here and hope, you like them. |
fam-united Posted Mar 24, 2007, 9:05 am |
And here is the snow, not enough to get one mission completed |
fam-united Posted Apr 1, 2007, 11:54 am |
I found a new friend: Björn Bangsi! He lives here with me for a while and we had a nice soccer game already against our host. And you maybe don't believe it, but we won!!!! |
fam-united Posted Apr 5, 2007, 9:31 pm |
Last Monday I met Taro, another toyvoyager, who just arrived at my host's home. After we had a nice soccer match together with Björn Bangsi, we fell in our bed. This time it was the bed of the oldest son. I think, he never would like his friends to see this picture, hahaha.
Oh, I forgot to explain, who is who. You see from left to right: Aaron's twin sister, Taro, Björn Bangsi, me and Cassiopeia's twin sister. |
fam-united Posted Apr 5, 2007, 9:36 pm |
Today we went to the beautiful baroque palace of Bruchsal and took a lot of pictures there.
Rebuilt from the ruins of the bombing of March 1st 1945 the magnificent baroque residence serves many purposes today. The portrait of Maria Theresa, empress of Austria, looks upon the shining and gleaming Marble Hall from Cardinal Hutten. The crowning glory of the stairwell by Balthasar Neumann leads to the reconstructed halls and modern museums. In the south wing the parish of St. Damian and Hugo has its church with a modern interior. First and second picture: the tower belongs to the church, both are connected by a dark hallway. On both pictures I'm in front of the church, on the first picture the church is on the left side and the other building between church and tower is the hallway. The second picture shows the back side of the church. At the front, on top and at the rear - baroque elements and shapes everywhere. THe palace's garden terrace was laid out in the eighties according to the original, unused 18th century blueprints. |
fam-united Posted Apr 5, 2007, 9:39 pm |
On the first picture I'm sitting with Björn Bangsi and Taro with the Damianstor in our back.
The Damian's Gate forms the remarkable northern entrance to the palace area and the town. The splendid palace of Damian Hugo of Schönborn - bishop, sovereign and cardinal of the state of Speyer - with its numerous surrounding baroque buildings, is fenced off by walls and ditches to produce the impression of a baroque quarter of its own. The other photos are taken in the palace garden on the backside of the palace. On one building I saw a sundial. I met some ducks at the fountain and one came really close to us, but didn't like to get on the photo. |
fam-united Posted Apr 10, 2007, 4:24 pm |
Last Sunday and Monday I celebrated Easter with my host family and friends.
I was Easter egg hunting with the kids and Björn Bangsi and Taro, but all photos from Sunday at my host mum's parents are deleted by accident. So I was so so sad, but I still hope, that they can work it out and find them again with a special program. Happily the weather was fine also on Monday so we could take some more pics in the garden of my host's. I also met a wooden Easter bunny in my host's livingroom and some Easter lambs made of biscuit on the table in the diningroom. |
fam-united Posted Apr 15, 2007, 6:32 pm |
Today we were in Mannheim. We visited our host's aunt and uncle. And my host showed us the Water-Tower of Mannheim. Her kids and we loved that place with all the tulips and other flowers. Can you smell them?
Mannheim is in the Rhine-Neckar triangle, one of the largest areas of industry in Germany. It's the second largest city in Baden-Württemberg with 325 349 inhabitants. It's 70 km south of Frankfurt a.M. and 140 km northwest of Stuttgart. The Water-Tower is Mannheim's most famous landmark. It was built in 1886. The construction is made of yellow sandstone, has a height of about 60 metres, holds 2000 cubic metres of water and is built in the Roman monumental style. The Christmas fair around the Water-Tower is very popular. |
fam-united Posted Apr 15, 2007, 7:00 pm |
I saw a big wall with a man, who had something like a bicycle at his side. It is of Carl Benz. It seems, that they aren't sure how to write it correctly, because I found Carl on that wall, but Karl on wikipedia. I saw that he was born in Karlsruhe, which is only about 20 km from Bruchsal.
Karl Friedrich Benz (December 6, 1844 – April 4, 1929) was a German engine designer and automobile engineer, generally regarded as the inventor of the gasoline-powered automobile. Other German contemporaries, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach, also worked independently on the same type of invention, but Benz patented his work first and, after that, patented all of the processes that made the internal combustion engine feasible for use in automobiles. In 1886 Karl Benz was granted a patent for his first engine, which he designed in 1878. Karl Benz (Related to the Benz family today) was born Karl Friedrich Michael Vaillant, in Karlsruhe, Baden (now part of Germany), to locomotive driver Johann George Benz and Josephine Vaillant. When Karl was two years old, his father was killed in a railway accident, and his name was changed to Karl Friedrich Benz in remembrance of his father. |

Finally we arrived at the garden, where we wanted to eat cakes and drink some juice and have some chat.
I was so fascinated by all the flowers around me. We took a lot of photos and I will show some here. You see my friends and me in the forsythia and me in front of the appletree and cherrytree. |
fam-united Posted Apr 15, 2007, 7:27 pm |
On Friday the whole family was on a trip to Schwetzingen to show us the beautiful garden of the palace.
Schwetzingen Castle began as a simple aristocratic fishing retreat (much like Versailles which began as a hunting lodge) and had an eventful architectural history, in several phases of construction, especially during the reigns of the Electors Palatine Karl Philip (1716-1742) and Karl IV Theodor (1742-1799) who, as their answer to Versailles, embellished the castle gardens with some of the finest and most elaborate formal water parterres in Germany gardens. As it evolved, the high central Baroque block of the Castle was extended to either side (from 1747 onwards) in matching curved ranges of glazed arcades that were punctuated by pavilions which followed the arc of the vast garden circle. They partly enclose the circle bisected by a wide gravel axis flanked by parterres which centers on a spring-fed water-basin inspired by the bassin of Diana at Versailles, but here expressing the more appropriately water-centered Greek myth of the poet Arion and the dolphins. The Schwetzingen Castle is the most famous landmark of the city. The accompanying garden is also very famous as there are elements of French Baroque styles combined with the English gardening style, with statuary by Peter Anton von Verschaffelt. Also worth seeing are the theatre, the orangery, the bath, the Apollo temple, Mercury temple, the mosque (built 1778 – 1791), the Minerva temple and the fountain of Arion. I'm sure, that you believe me, that I was so so tired, when I came home again. |
fam-united Posted Apr 24, 2007, 9:22 pm |
Wow, today evening I have been at a museum, where they showed different things of the Stone Age and I heard one man playing percussions and one woman telling Anatolian fairy tales. One man and another woman played guitar and Turkish guitar between the stories. I never heard such sounds, but I liked it. Unhappily we have no photo, only one, that isn't really good, but be sure, I really have been there. We came home at 11pm early, because the museum night ended at 1am. I was so tired.
You can see a photo of the palace of Karlsruhe, but without me. |
fam-united Posted Apr 24, 2007, 9:24 pm |
I met three guinea pigs today, but on the photo you see only one of them. |
fam-united Posted Apr 24, 2007, 9:25 pm |
In the late afternoon, my two adult host drove with me to some other places in Bruchsal. They showed me a beautiful baroque church inside and outside, the Belvedere - a hunting lodge, the Damianstor. It is all so beautiful, especially with this blue of the sky and the sunshine.
|
fam-united Posted Apr 24, 2007, 9:26 pm |
I saw a lot of asparagus fields, but still I haven't eaten some, because they are too expensive at the moment. Then you see a street, which is on the east side of the house, where I'm at the moment. On the left side of the picture you can see the swing in the garden. |
fam-united Posted Apr 24, 2007, 9:27 pm |
Later in the morning my host showed me some places I never would like to see from inside: the slaughterhouse, the jailhouse and one building - the oldest part- of the hospital . But my host told me, that she would like to show me the slaughterhouse, because she likes going there with her husband and older kids for listening to comedians - a funny place for that things, that's my opinion.
Then we visited the park of the palace of Bruchsal and we took a photo of me in front of one statue. I heard, that there is one statue for each season of the year and one statue for each of the four elements water, fire, earth, air. In another part of the park we took photos of me in front of a wisteria. You can't believe, how it tickled in my nose. |
fam-united Posted Apr 24, 2007, 9:27 pm |
I visited a chapel in a suburb of Bruchsal called Untergrombach. The chapel "Michaelskapelle" is on a hill called Michaelsberg. I had a wonderful view over the Rhine valley and in the back a view in the Kraichgau. I saw many quarry ponds and my host told me, that she swam in one of them, when she was younger. It's the see you can sea on the photo and this sea also belongs to Untergrombach. Next to the sea you see a wood, which is the border between Untergrombach and Bruchsal.

Hello from Japan!
I arrived in Japan two days ago (on May 1st) safety. We have Constitution Day today (on May 3rd). It is one of national holidays. In Japan people fly a national flag in front of their house on a national holiday. I thought that the national flag of Japan is very simple. |
yumi Posted May 5, 2007, 10:42 am |
We have a national holiday named Children's day today (May 5th)
The day was for celebrating boys growing up, but it has become a day to celebrate children in general at present. Families with boys set out dolls for the Children's day which patterned after warriors and heros(samurai) and fly carp streamers. Carp have the strength to swim even up waterfalls and have long been taken as symbols of success in life. 1)The carp streamer It means one family-the black carp(the biggest) means father, the red one means mother and the rest means chldren 2)Me and my toyvoyager friend Robby who came from Germany 3)Me and Robby and Yumi's new toyvoyager Tokio. We all are male! We are good friends 4)I'm wearing the helmet for samurai that Yumi made with origami-a piece of square paper. |
yumi Posted May 7, 2007, 5:50 pm |

She will leave for Tokyo tomorrow night (May 9th)! Of course, she will take me many places. I can't wait!! I'm reading a book for Kyoto with Robby and Tokio who travel with. The picture on the page is Kiyomizudera (temple) where is very famouse in Kyoto. I hope I can visit there. and I'm waiting in the bag. I'm ready now! I know it is a little early... |
yumi Posted May 8, 2007, 1:58 pm |
I was very surprised and happy to be elected Voyager of the Week!!
Thank you very much, Isobel&Neil!!! Today, Tokio and Robby celebrated me! |
yumi Posted Jun 2, 2007, 5:57 am |
I'm sorry but I haven't uploaded my travelog for a while.
May 10th. I left Yumi's house in the evening on May 9th and took a night bus for Tokyo. I couldn't sleep very well on the bus because I was too excited. In the morning, I arrived in Tokyo and took an express train for Narita airport to meet Yumi's friends from England. Before I met them, I went to the obserbatory at the airport and watched some airplanes. I wished I could visit somewhere by the airplane. |
yumi Posted Jun 3, 2007, 2:34 pm |
Last night, I slept very well with Robby and Tokio.
In the morning, we went to Asakusa where is a very famous and popular place for tourists. We found Asahi Beer conpany building pretending to be a beer glass with an adjacent golden object. It was very big! Then, we went to Senso-ji temple and Asakusa-jingya shrine Senso-ji temple- the oldest temple in Tokyo and it is said to have been built in 628. Asakusa-jingya shrine- the shaden architecture donated by Iemitsu Tokugawa in 1649 and still remains in the shrine. |
yumi Posted Jun 3, 2007, 3:16 pm |
Then, we went to Sony Building in Ginza.
There were some stores, restaurants and showrooms. We wached a big screen tv and used some walkmans/mp3 players at the showroom. I thought it was an interesting places there! |
yumi Posted Jun 4, 2007, 2:16 pm |
In the evening, we visited Tokyo tower.
The tower was built in 1958 and the height is 330m. We went to the main observatory(150m) and the special one(250m) We could look across the entire city of Tokyo at a glance. We watched the sunset and the night view there. It was really beautiful!! |
yumi Posted Jun 5, 2007, 8:44 am |
The next day, the weather was very nice.
I visited Imperial Palace East Gardens with Robby and Tokio. The garden was very big and had many kinds of trees and flowers. I relaxed there and had forgotten that I was staying in the metropolis Tokyo. The house was used as a guardhouse. |
yumi Posted Jun 6, 2007, 3:28 pm |
Good bye Tokyo!
We(Eddy Bear, Tokio and I) left Tokyo for Kyoto today. We got on the bullet train (Shinkansen in Japanese). It was very fast and comfortable. |
yumi Posted Jun 8, 2007, 2:49 pm |
Today's weather in Kyoto was also sunny and warm.
Robby, Tokio and I visited Kyoto Gyoen (Kyoto Imperial Palace) to watch Aoi Festival Parade. The Palace is surronded by a wall called Tujii and there are 6 gates. The wall is about 450m long from north to south and is about 250m from east to west. Until 1869, before the capital was moved from Kyoto to Tokyo, it was the residence of the Imperial Family. Aoi Festival is the oldest one in Kyoto. Over 500 people, 36 horses, 4 cows, 2 bullock carts and a palanquin decorated with aoi (hollyhock) leaves, set out from The Imperial Palace, proceeding to Simogamo Shrine, hence to Kamigamo Shrine, all in all an impressive 18km (12.8miles) journey. We watched the parade near the Imperial Palace. It was very interesting and beautiful. |
yumi Posted Jun 9, 2007, 4:30 pm |
After watching the Aoi Festival Parade, Robby,Tokio and I visited Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion). It was very beautiful!
The temple was built in 1397 is covered in gold leaves and has a golden Chinese Phoenix on the roof. |
yumi Posted Jun 12, 2007, 8:03 am |
Today, I visited Fushimi-inari Taisha(shrine) where is the head shrine of all other Inari shrines (about 30000) built across Japan.
The shrine was built in 711 to enshrine the god of grains and later other deities were also enshrined. The approximately 4km long path lined with thousands of red Torii gates are very famous! Torii is an archway to the approach to Shinto shrines and the symbol of Shinto, Japanese old religion. I passed through the red Torii gates, not all of them though. It was very red and beautiful! I found a few small Torii gates. I thought they were my size. |
yumi Posted Jun 12, 2007, 8:14 am |
Afterwards, I found a bamboo long path near the shrine and explorered there with Robby and Tokio. Robby was our leader of the adventure. It was a very peaceful place.
I played with a fallen leaf. This new hat fits me? Good-bye Kyoto! The last day in Kyoto was today...I went back to Ishikawa in the evening. |
yumi Posted Jun 12, 2007, 3:35 pm |
Today Robby and I visited Gokayama.
Tokio stayed at home because he has been there with Cassiopeia,a toyvoyager from Germany. Unfortunately, the weather was not good... Both Gokayama and Shirakawago are registered as World Heritage. They are popular for houses with a rafter roof which were built a few hundred years ago. Gokayama has two villages named Ainokura and Suganuma. Ainokura has 20 old houses and Suganuma has 9. We visited both villages. They were very peaceful and beautiful. |
yumi Posted Jun 13, 2007, 10:32 am |
It was a sunny day today.
Eddy Bear, Tokio and I went to a unique place called Nagisa Drive-way (Nagisa means beach in Japanese) Why the place is unique because we can drive any cars on beach where is just here in Japan!! I think it is very unusual for the world. Do you know another place where can do like that? Nagisa Drive-way is about 8km long. We can drive because the sand of the beach is very fine. I enjoyed the beach very much!! |
yumi Posted Jun 27, 2007, 2:13 pm |
Today I was sent to my hometown UK where Drakie lives!
I can't wait to see her as we haven't seen each other for a long time. Last week, I took last photos with Robby and Tokio who traveled with in Tokyo and Kyoto and my other friends from Finland who live at Yumi's house. I said to good-bye to them. I wore the hat Yumi bought at Tokyo Disneyland last month. You can see Mickey mouse's ears on it. After going back to UK, I'm planning to travel USA, Austria and other countries. Can't wait for a new adventure! |

Yeah, I arrived in Vienna today! I was happy to get out of my envelope and it was nice to get to know my host family: Mum, Dad and 3 little boys. So I'm sure I won't get bored during my stay in Austria!
There are also some other toyvoyagers who welcomed me here in Vienna: Frankie, a tiny little Giraffe from the Netherlands, Cassiopeia, the colourful turtle from Germany, Decker, the friendly lion from the UK (yippieh! it's always nice to meet somebody from home when you are travelling!) and Jade the crazy Kremlin also from the Netherlands. |
ChristinaB Posted Jan 1, 2008, 9:31 pm |
I spent a wonderful Christmas time in Austria. Well it was a bit different than I expected it to be because I always thought it would be a quiet and relaxing time - but we had plenty to do baking cakes, buying gifts, visiting the Christmas market etc. So, no time to relax - but it was great fun! |
ChristinaB Posted Jan 2, 2008, 9:09 am |
We all were very busy to bake Christmas biscuits. What a wonderful smell everywhere in the flat - and how delicious they tasted!! |
ChristinaB Posted Jan 2, 2008, 9:57 am |
One day we visited "Naschmarkt", the biggest market in Vienna. It was very impressive to see all the different fruits, spices etc they offered there. We bought alot and had a big fruit salad that evening |
ChristinaB Posted Jan 2, 2008, 10:16 am |
We spent a day at the famous "Christkindlmarkt" in front of the City hall. I did a ride on a Merry-go-round, watched all the really beautiful things sold there, visited the crib with the holy family inside and my host was so nice to buy a gingerbread heart for me. That's a tradition there I was told - a very delicious one! Christkindlmarkt is even more beautiful at night but the photos didn't come out... |
ChristinaB Posted Jan 2, 2008, 10:57 am |
I also did alot of sightseeing in Vienna. A few our host took me and the other toyvoyagers to the city center.
We saw the old "Hofburg" which was the former residence of the Habsburg family. Nowadays it hosts the Spanish riding school, some museums, the President's office and the national gallery. We also passed by Heldentor which is just next to Hofburg. Then we went to Karlsplatz where we visited this wonderful church with its 2 towers and we had a look at one of the most beautiful subway stations in Vienna. It was built in "Jugendstil" which is very similar to Art nouveau but can only be found in Vienna. We also saw the 2 museums: one is for nature and the other one for historical arts. They are built face to face and look exactly like twins. |
ChristinaB Posted Jan 2, 2008, 11:06 am |
We continued our sightseeing-tour to the opera (oh, how much would I love to watch a play there but I was told that bears are not allowed in there - what a pitty!) and to the Austrian parliament.
Then I saw the Secession with its golden roof, a kind of Gallery, also built in Jugendstil and the Old Imperial Theatre. |
ChristinaB Posted Jan 2, 2008, 9:16 pm |
Have you ever heart about Hundertwasser-Haus? It's the most colourful house in Vienna created by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. There is nothing special inside just normal flats, but it is soooo beautiful!
|
ChristinaB Posted Jan 4, 2008, 9:58 am |
We visited the big amusement park in Vienna - Prater. What a pitty that it is closed during winter, only the Big Wheel moved, but we had a nice walk alround though... And I finally fulfilled one of my missions here I was told that if I'm lucky I can also join the family to the Alps which would be phantastic... We'll see...
|
ChristinaB Posted Feb 2, 2008, 9:47 am |
Today we did a trip to Slovakia and visited Bratislava. How exciting to go abroad not being packed into an envelope but seeing how to pass the boarder
It was a freezy day but we had great fun walking through the city center, visiting the Christmas Market, the opera and then walking up the big hill to the castle. We sat in a restaurant and had a (not very typical) lunch for quite some time so when we came out it was already quite dark. So my host says sorry for the bad quality of the pictures... But in reality Bratislava was a very interesting and beautiful place! |
ChristinaB Posted Feb 2, 2008, 9:49 am |
I celebrated Christmas in Vienna this year!! With all the traditions they have here, with a little chaos (since I'm staying in a family with 3 little kids) and with alot of joy!
The kids were very excited about Christmas and could hardly wait for the big day to come. So they had an advent calendar with 24 little mooses and every morning I helped them to find the "Moose of the day" - how funny We also did alot of preparations and decorations, one day my host even decided to bake a crib from Gingerbread! Hmmmm how delicious - but it came out soo beautiful that nobody wanted to eat it... |
ChristinaB Posted Feb 2, 2008, 9:51 am |
We had a wonderful Christmas tree - such a big one that it didn't even fit on the photo, ha, ha! There were many decorations on it and some chocolates (well, I helped to organize everything so I was allowed to pick the first chocolate, yummy!)
Christmas Eve itself was very funny! After everything was prepared the "Christkind" came (kids in Austria don't believe in Santa I was told but in the Christkind), we sang some songs (well, I guess the family won't get famous as a choir...) and then we all were allowed to open the presents. They were really lucky to have me with them this year because I helped alot with that!!! |
ChristinaB Posted Feb 2, 2008, 9:53 am |
After Christmas we left Vienna to go on a winter holiday. First we stayed at my host's parents in Upper Austria which was very nice because there was some snow and I enjoyed to play outdoors alot! Strange thing, this snow... but I got used to it and finally I really liked it! And I was soooo happy to fullfill my 2nd mission
The family went skiing several times and I joined them to the mountains. Well "mountains"... these were no real mountains (at least not what I expected from Austrian mountains...) rather hills but I was told that we would go to the real mountains pretty soon |
ChristinaB Posted Feb 2, 2008, 9:56 am |
Well, and that was exactly what we did a few days later. We went to Zell am See, a small town beautifully located within the Alps very close to Austria's highest mountain "Großglockner". And there I found some real mountains!!!
I was allowed to go skiing with my hosts again! We went up to "Schmittenhöhe" (more than 2000 m) by cablecar, which was a completely new experience for me. The view from up there was really amazing towards all the other mountains (some of them are more than 3.500 m high!!) So I managed to complete another mission - yippieh!! On the last photo you can see me with some of the other Toyvoyagers I got to know here: Decker, Cassiopeia, Jade, Frankie, Kanga and Smooch. |
ChristinaB Posted Feb 2, 2008, 9:59 am |
Since my host loves Salzburg and since it was only about 100 km from Zell am See we once went there to do some sightseeing and enjoy a lóng walk through the city center. So I got to see the old fortress on the hill, had a walk through "Getreidegasse", the most famous street in Salzburg where I also saw the house where Mozart was born. Then we went to listen to the bells in a tower called "Glockenspiel", had a look at the big dome and we also visited Mirabell castle. I was told that it is very beautiful to walk through its park in summer when they have tons of flowers growing there!

Today morning we got up at 5 a.m.- very early! It's because we had our bus to Tomsk. Tomsk is another Siberian city- a very old one. It's more than 400 years old. It took us about 5 hours to get there by bus. We like the city very much, because it has beautiful architecture, lots of churches, old wooden houses.
Here me and Elizabeth in the Garden near river Tom. And here we are at the Tomsk State University- also a very old one and very beautiful too! It is surrounded by a beautiful garden. We saw squirrels there! And we found two stone ancient idols that were brought from Altai: Look what a lovely sculpture of a cabbage and a baby! Small children in Russia think that they were found in a cabbage or were brought by a stork ) This sculpture stands near the maternity hospital. The main street of Tomsk- Lenin's prospect: On the embankment: We saw a kite there! And there were so-o many weddings there The emblem of Tomsk: The Tomsk drama theatre: The funny monument to the famouse Russian writer- Anton Pavlovich Chechov: We found a very old chemistry in Tomsk. It was build in the 19th century. The monument to St. Tatiana who protects studends and helps them in their studies: We enjoyed our trip very much! What a pitty that we had only one day in Tomsk! |

Today we went to the Novosibirsk Zoo. We went there by the children's railway. It's interesting that it's a real railway, only small and only children work there. It's about 5 km long and the train runs with the speed of 10 km/h.
In the zoo we could see many animals like deers, monkeys, tigers and lions, leopards, different bears, etc. The Zoo is very big and it's situated in the pine forrest. And this ligr was born from a tiger and a lion. It's a girl and she lives in a cage with a lion. |

Autumn has come here. It's clowdy and rainy, but today it was rather warm, so we went to the park for a walk. There we found some oaks and gathered acorns:

Last night was the BIG playoffs to see who is going to go to the world series for the American league. The National League already has the big winner of the Philadelphia Phillies. Darcie's favorite team The Atlanta Braves did not make it this year into the playoffs so she was rooting for The Tampa Rays to beat the Boston Red Sox. We all gathered around the TV with my new favorite snack.. Chedder cheese Pringles!! If Florida would of won then they would of advanced right to the world series!!! Florida was winning 7 to zero against the Boston Red Sox BOOOO!!!! Darcie does not like the Boston red sox and either do the other toys in the house. Anyways the game got very exciting and Boston caught up and tied the game.. then they got one more run and they won. We stayed up till 1 am watching the game and tommorro is the next game and we are hoping The Florida Rays will win!! Here are some photos of me and my friends watching the game!! Towards the end you can see Big Papi getting interviewed, he is a star hitter for The Boston Red Sox and got them going back with a big home run, hitting in two runs. Im having a lot of fun here in North Carolina. Not much going on but Im relaxing and enjoying my new friends.

Im rooting for the Tampa Bay Rays to win!! I also am getting ready for Halloween!! Darcie lives in a big neighborhood where a ton of kids will be by dressed up in costumes going Trick Or Treating. The kids will come to the door and ring it and then say *trick or treat* then they will get lots of candy. I went to Walmart with her to buy the Candy and wow its going to be a fun night! Usually Darcie decorates up the entire house but since her husband is away she could not get up in the attic to drag down all the heavy boxes! we are still going to have so much fun I am going to help hand out Candy to all the kids! here are some photos of what I did today. Not much is going on but Im having a fun time. I sat next to the Halloween flowers that Darcie got from her mom who lives out in Sacramento, California, I went and watched the Fish swim in the tank and then I went out to the garage and got on the Scooter and a Dirt Bike! Last night was Halloween! I handed out candy and I also ate some Butterfingers, Paydays, Crunch bars and my new favorite Whoppers!! It was very cold so Darcie made a fire for us to sit in front of and stay nice and cozy. I saw lots and lots of kids in costumes. I saw lots of scary ones with light up masks and also lots of Disney costumes like Cinderella and Sully from Monsters Inc. Halloween is really fun!!

Hi Mom!
Im sorry that I do not have photos of me for todays trip. Darcie brought her camara but many parts of the base are off limits to photographs and movie camaras... some of these photos were taken secretly LOL I got to go to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. I had a lot of fun and got to see tanks, LAVs, Hummers and lots of Marines. I also got to see *building 1* and that is where the General of the base works (see photo below) I drove down to a area called Montford Point and got to see a Marine museum of old uniforms and historical photos of when the base first opened. Darcie go told to put her camara away so we have no museum photos. I got REALLY lucky because it was the Marine Corps Birthday so I got to see the Marine Corps silent drill team!! I was very excited watching them do drill moves with their dress blues on and spinning the rifles! Check out the photos! I am suppose to go to Marine Corps Air Station, New River sometime soon (when the weather will cooperate, its been raining everyday!) Darcies husband works at the Air Station but he is deployed right now. I heard I get to sit in a helicopter when I go to the air station!! anyways here are a few photos of the area and again sorry I could not sneak into the photos today. |

Today I arrived in Santa Barbara. Katrin picked up my letter after her class and was so excited that she really teared it open. It's great to be on the road again. While we were looking for a sunny place to take the first photo, Katrin told me, that she is in the US to improve her English and that she at first didn't want to have a TV here. But she fell in live with the town and I'm the lucky one who can come to visit her. (Well, the truth is, that she was a bit bored and missed it to be active on this website).
Then Katrin said that I don't need a cap here because it's warm here, today are about 15°. On the bus stop Katrin showed me some places of downtown Santa Barbara. This is the Arlington Theater, it's used to show movies and also for concerts or theater plays. Katrin wants to watch here the new stop-motion movie "Coraline" because it is shown here in 3D. We also stopped at "La Arcada". It's a kind of art mall, there are some small cafés and galleries and a lot of sculptures and a nice place to take some photos. Katrin wants to show me a lot of places, expect a lot of updates! |
babyamy Posted Feb 16, 2009, 2:59 am |
Happy Valentine's Day!
I made this little heart for you today to tell you that I love you and miss you! Since Katrin's boyfriend is in Germany, they just exchanged e-mails. Because of the time difference they didn't even talked to each other. Well, they could have done it, but Katrin was too busy today. She is doing an internship at the public library and she has promised to help with the Valentine's crafts today. We got up early and arrived too early at the library. We spnd the time taking this nice photo of me: Then Katrin was even to busy to take photos of me in the library because in the afternoon there was another kids activity. It was orgnised by the African American Heritage Group. Katrin got a lot of goodies which she just put in a bag. At home we had a closer look at it. There was the book called "The dancing Granny" which is based on an African Fairy tale and a lot of pins and bookmarks and a cap. The book was very interesting and Katrin read it to me before we went to bed. |
babyamy Posted Feb 16, 2009, 5:50 am |
Today the weather was nice and Katrin took me down to the beach. Before we arrived there, I saw the lighthouse. Well, it's used as a restaurant today...
Before we entered the beach, we took a photo of me in front of the three dolphins. Katrin doesn't know whether they are a symbol for something but everybody who comes here the first time takes a photo of them. I discovered some interesting things in the sand but suddenly the water came really close and Katrin had to resue me. On the second photo you can see Stearn's Wharf in the background. After playing a while in the sand we decided to go back home because it was getting cloudy and very windy and cold. The seagulls were to shy for a photo with me, but this pelican was much cooler anyway. |
babyamy Posted Feb 17, 2009, 2:15 am |
Today is President's Day in the US, which means no school for Katrin. She had some nice plans for us, but then something happened, that shot all her plans down: it was raining the whole day and you didn't want to go out.
Well, we used the time for being a bit creative. Katrin wanted to make some decorated envelopes for an upcoming swap on swap-bot and I helped her as good as I could. The first idea was to fold a paper into an envelope. It looked nice but Katrin said, that it isn't the right thing to do for this swap. For the first enevelope we looked through old magazines and cut out some animals. Then we glued them in a kind of collage on the envelope. The second envelope should be totally selfmade. I used an open envelope as model. The paper we used is an paper bag Katrin got at the grocery store. She said, it's a perfect way to recycle the paper. The pictures to decorate this envelope are taken from another paperbag. Katrin added also some quotes. This one looks even better than the first one. |
babyamy Posted Feb 21, 2009, 2:59 am |
Katrin is living with a host family with is originally from the Phillipines. This means that they are always eating rice with something. Well, Katrin is used to European food with more variety and today she decided to cook some potatoes to have something different for dinner.
While the potatoes were bioling, she decided to make "a kind of" potatoes salat. I helped peeling the potatoes but they were very, very hot... While the potatoes were cooling, we cut some onions and added them to the potatoes. Since there was nothing better to find in the fridge, Katrin added salad dressing and this was her dinner. |
babyamy Posted Feb 22, 2009, 2:46 am |
Katrin took me to school with her today. The waether was really great, it was warm again, finally! This is the little yard between the two school buildings.
We came here more than an hour before the classes startet because Katrin wanted to do some writing in the sun. It was to boring for me and I decided to catch some sun at the fountain. After school we didn't went home straight. We went to a café similar to Starbucks. I did the homework because it was very easy for me. The book is even made by British so didn't have to think about strange American words... |
babyamy Posted Feb 26, 2009, 4:59 am |
Here we are at the bus stop on, waiting for the bus number 6 or 11 to get back home. Katrin has been working at the library again. Look at her bag, she brought agin so many DVDs, I think we will need the whole weekend to watch them...
Finally the bus arrived and this is the view of an original American Highway - it doesn't really look different from any other highway or "autobahn" all around the world (at least as far as Katrin knows) |
babyamy Posted Feb 28, 2009, 2:35 am |
Today is washing day! Katrin said, that she didn't want to wash more since we are travelling back to Germany next week, but she is running out of socks... The washing machineand the dryer are in the building were she is living right now and we even caught some sunshine.
|
babyamy Posted Mar 2, 2009, 4:06 am |
It's my last weekend in Santa Barbara, it's unbelievable how fast the time is passing. Since the weather was great today, Katrin and I took the bus to town and walked up and down State Street. State Street is the main street in Santa Barbara and there are all the restaurants and stores.
This is in front of a nice ceramic store: Here are some more street photos: And here is a photo from a bank near the water: On the way back to the bus we even passed by the Court House. It also has a nice fountain, it seems like there are fountains in every corner of the city... |
babyamy Posted Mar 6, 2009, 1:59 am |
Today the weather was great again and Katrin decided that we should go to the Pacific Ocean one more time. We went to Stearn's Wharf again. On the way to the far end of it, we passed this restaurant with all the pelicans sitting on it:
This is the beautiful view over to the Channel Islands. Sometimes there are even dolphins in the sea, but we didn't see any. This is the way looking back the wharf to the city. You can even see the mountains in the background. While I was sitting on this table to enjoy the warm sunshine, this crazy seagull came walking up behind me. Luckily Katrin got her camera ready and took these funny photos of us. |
babyamy Posted Mar 11, 2009, 3:54 pm |
Here I am at the Santa Barbara Airport. We have about 45 min before the plain to San Francisco leaves. We said goodbye to Katrin's roommate who came with us to the airport and now Katrin took some last photos.
This photo shows the whole airport buildings, it's a cute little airport. The main building: A huuuuuge plant |
babyamy Posted Mar 14, 2009, 1:46 pm |
It is sooooo boring! I'm in Germany for three days now and did I see anything? NO!!!
Katrin is too busy doing other things. Ok, I know, after a long journey you are tired and you have to tidy up all your things but now everything is done and I want to see more than just this one room. Today she is writing letters to her pnepals, the whole day long...and theh sun is shining, I want to go out! |
babyamy Posted Mar 14, 2009, 3:21 pm |
Since I was complaining too much yesterday, Katrin took me with her to Hamburg. She is working as an accountant in a small company on her campus and today is her working day. Watching her working was really boring, but in the afternoon her bosses wanted her to do some shopping.
This is me and a fountain in the hall of the building. On the way to the grocery store we passed by the fire department. In Hamburg they are driving a Smart?! We made a quick stop in the Asia store because Katrin's mum needs some coconut cream for a recipe she wants to try. Finally, shopping! But look, we just bought unhealthy food: cookies and jelly bears and chocolate marshmallows and tea. For me it was like paradies lying there in the cart. |
babyamy Posted Mar 22, 2009, 7:44 pm |
Hey mum, I'm driving a car! It's so much fun drinving this huge car from Katrin's dad. Well, actually Katrin was driving and I was just looking over the wheel. Here we are at the train station in Wrist. This is from where Katrin goes to Hamburg every day. Today we are waiting for her boyfriend who will spend the whole week with us in Kellinghusen. Maybe the weather is becoming better and I can visit the town. |
babyamy Posted Mar 22, 2009, 7:57 pm |
Today is St. Patrick's Day, but it usually isn't celebrated in Germany. But this year Katrin brought some ideas back home from the US and her brother and her boyfriend had some big plans for today.
They decorated the house with Irish flags. Then they started to organise their beverage for the evening: Irish beer and Whiskey. I also got my own bottle of Guinness...to be earnest: we were all a bit drunk and we were watching a very strange movie called Mystery Science Theater 3000. But it was ok, we could sleep the next day. |
babyamy Posted Mar 26, 2009, 9:17 pm |
Today Katrin is working again and I waslooking for something interesting to do in her house. I smelled something nice and opened the kitchen door: There was someeone cooking! I asked if I could help an this is how I got this great job: let to cook know, when the food starts to burn. Of course I could try it a lot and recomended to add more spices.

babyamy Posted Apr 1, 2009, 8:07 pm |
Today is the first day of spring and it is one of the first sunny days in Germany after a long cloudy and grey time.
Katrin wanted to do some shopping in the city center and we visited some nice places. This one is the market place. On the right you can see that the ice café is already open again. Although it was very sunny, we decided that it is still too cold for icecream. This "dish tower" is a kind of statue in the middle of the market place. It is a symbol for the pottery tradition of Kellinghusen. Every year in August there is a pottery fair and people from all over Germany and the neighbouring countries come to see and buy and sell pottery. This nice guy I met in front of one of the two Greek restaurants of the town. Here are two examples of the typical Kellinghusen pottery. It is called "Fayancen" an the main colours are yellow and blue and green. |
babyamy Posted Apr 3, 2009, 8:52 pm |
Today or great time of freedom is over: Katrin's parents are coming back from their vacation. We came to the train station to pick them up. At home we already had prepared the lunch.
Here I'm waiting for the train... and here it comes! |
babyamy Posted Apr 5, 2009, 12:22 pm |
This week I spent all the days alone at home. Katrin's university had started again and she was very busy organizing all her classes. But on Thursday she grabbed me, put me in her suitcase and then we travelled a very long time on Friday afternoon.
Today is Saturday and here I am! This is a part of the old town wall of Schwerin. Schwerin is the capital city of the state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, that's in the north-east part of Germany. We are visiting Katrin's boyfriend and walked around the town to enjoy the sunshine. Here I am in the city centre at the market place. In the background you can see the cathedral of Schwerin. This is one of the gouvernment buildings. After a while I decided to make break and rest a bit. I liked this tree with a view over the Lake Schwerin and the crocuses at the waterside. The last stops are the some of the highlights of the city. On the left is the theater and on the right is the museum. This is the most famous building of Schwerin: the castle. Today the gouvernment of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern uses it fot its meetings. We also went inside the castle and visited the museum, but we weren't allowed to take photos. |
babyamy Posted Apr 5, 2009, 12:33 pm |
This afternoon we came back home. I was a bit sleepy after the long time in the suitcase. Suddenly someone opened it and I saw a little elephant. Her name is Alizée and she is going to stay with us.
I told Alizée that Katrin is pretty busy these days because of her first weeks of university. I showed her Katrin's most important books for this semster, they are all about marketing because she has some marketing classes this time. |
babyamy Posted Apr 5, 2009, 12:45 pm |
Today we had to get up early because Katrin wanted to show us the library of her university. She had one hour before her classes began, that means a lot of time for her.
This is the area for silent work. It is devided from the reat of the library by glass. These stacks are the most important ones for Katrin. The letters BID mean "Bibliothek, Information, Dokumentation", I think you can guess the meaning, the German words are very similar to the Englisch ones. Katrin is majoring in Information and library Sciences and here she can find most of the important books. The library is on two floors (the 7th and the 8th one) and Katriin prefers working on the 8th floor. Let's go there! What looks like much fun is rolling shelf. Here ypu can find newspapers in the shelves. Behind the roling shelves is one of Katrin's secret spots. Frome here you have a beautiful view over Hamburg. Now it's time for Katrin to start working. But hey, what is she doing? That doesn't look like work for studying. No, Katrin uses the free time to write some postcards for Postcrossing and a letter to one of her pen pals. Well, it's boring to watch her writing and Alizée and I decided to enjoy the sun. |
babyamy Posted Apr 10, 2009, 12:43 pm |
Today Katrin has to prepare her salad for lunch herself. At first she cut cauliflower in small pieces. Then she put them into this strange plastic bag to cook it. She says it's a new product which cooks the food in the microwave just with steam. It sounds a bit weird, but let's try it.
Three minutes later: We opened the door aof the microwave and all the steam left the bag. Then we tried the cauliflower and yes, it tasted like normal cooked one. Then we had to cook quinoa, it's one of the cereals Katrin is alowed to eat. You cook it like rice and it tastes a bit like nuts. This is the result: a strange looking salad, but it tastes better than it looks. |
babyamy Posted Apr 11, 2009, 4:42 pm |
It was pretty early when Katrin woke me up today. She took us with her to Hamburg to show us some more places she sees every day.
This is the central station, where our train has just arrived. It's the red one you can see in the background. Then we walked over to the subway station. This is the view back to the building of the central station. After a two minute "U-Bahn" ride, we arrived at the station Lohmühlenstraße. This is where the university campus is. This tall builduing is the part of the campus where Katrin's classes take place. Inside the builduing there are two diffrent lifts. One goes to the floors 1 to 5, the second one to the floors from 6 to 14, but this one can stop on all floors. And where are we going? Of course floor 7, the library! |
babyamy Posted Apr 11, 2009, 4:50 pm |
Today Katrin had some time after the lectures and she decided to show us some nice places in the city center of Hamburg.
We took the subway which brought us to the river Alster. From here you can go on boat trips or just sit on the pontoon and enjoy the sun. The second photo shows the view back to the street, it is called Jungfernstieg. Here are all the famous and expensive shops like Joop and Thommy Hilfiger. This is the view over the Fleet (the water you can see here) to the town hall. There are some restaurants and cefés right next to the water. Well, this building on the left was the place Katrin really wanted to go. It is a shopping mall called Europapassage and there is a really great craft store where Katrin spent a lot of money on craft stuff. |
babyamy Posted Apr 11, 2009, 5:03 pm |
Katrin has decided to tidy up her room a bit. Specially her craft stuff has been spread all over her desk and now she wants to have a small drawer box for all the stuff.
This one is made of cardboard and you just fold it and put it together. It sounded like fun and Alizée and I wanted to help. At first we folded the whole box... ... then the drawers. This is the result: a really nice looking box. Now Katrin can put all her stuff into it, I hope, everything will fit in there... |
babyamy Posted Apr 12, 2009, 7:21 pm |
Happy Easter Mom!
Today the weather was great and we went on a trip to a outdoor museum. Here you can see how people have lived 100-150 years ago. The museum took farm houses from all over Schleswig-Holstein (that's the name of the state Katrin is living) and rebuilt them in Molfsee. Here are two of the old farm houses... ...and here is another one Most of the houses are open for the visitors and you can see all the rooms. This is a living room and one of the beds. They were really small! In the barn we discovered an old coach: |

Today is my last day in Germany. Alizée and I decided to have a walk around the garden and enjoy the sun and all the beautiful flowers.
Now it's time to say goodbye. I had a great time with Katrin, travelling half way around the world and now the last weeks with Alizée. I hope my journey won't take to long... |
pinkandgray Posted Sep 20, 2010, 11:22 pm |
I was packed in a box, and went on a long, voyage. My packing job must have been very, very good, because it took my Hostess a while to free me from my traveling package.
But finally, I was out! I have the feeling I'm being watched. Oh hey there! This must be the Welcome Wagon. I met Mary Louise, Pink Bunny, Gray Rabbit, CC (who everyone told me is a very drowsy lamb) and Grumpy. Some of them are fellow voyagers as well. I am excited for new adventures with my new friends! |
pinkandgray Posted Sep 24, 2010, 10:07 pm |
Today we embarked on a great adventure! We went to the Huntington Museum in Pasadena.
This was our mode of transportation. I'm told it is a "man purse." It does not look very masculine, but we all fit nicely. Me in front of the Botanical Gardens! A very grand building. Me and Will Shakespeare! Me and my new friends. Pink Bunny, Gray Rabbit, Grumpy (who is not so Grumpy) and Mary Louise. How do you turn this thing on? I'm thirsty. The Japanese Gardens were my favorite. This is the Chinese Garden Pavillion. The stream in the Redwood Forest. Afterwards we went to a comic book store. We had lots of fun today! Can't wait to find out what's next! |
pinkandgray Posted Oct 1, 2010, 8:47 pm |
We had a tea party!
Me and Grumpy and Mary Louise and Pink and Gray and CC! I liked my tea. I sat by Grumpy. He and I are friends. I don't find him very grumpy at all, to be honest. I wonder why he's called that? Odd. I am having a great time! Everyone has been so nice! I wonder what we'll do next? |

We went on another field trip.
Wonder what this furniture is doing out here? Wait - why are we in jail? More importantly, why is Grumpy OUT of jail?! Hopefully our next outing will not land us in the slammer! |

Off to celebrate an American holiday called Thanksgiving. That means time to fly, and that means time to hit the bag with Candy Cotton and Grumpy. We flew into the Philadelphia airport. We hopped a lift on a cart. I wonder if I could take a ride on the baggage claim? Time to dial up some transportation. We made it to the farm. It is a big place. Lots of different goats on the farm. Hello goat, how are you doing? There was 1 llama there. They are quite tall. People do like taking my picture in trees. *sigh* Birds, all types of birds. Turkey and a rooster. Geese and ducks on the pond (tough to make them out). Some animals are inside. That was one big turtle. I was told he was adopted when he was only a little bigger than me. Chinchillas. They are active at night. I like this "Thanksgiving" holiday. It was quite nice to see lots of people and animals having a good time. I hope everyone reading this had a great time. We are back safe in LA. |

Candy Cotton, Grumpy and I got an offer to go see where one of our hosts works in downtown Los Angeles. Grumpy passed, but the rest of us can't wait to catch that morning bus. I get my own seat to watch the world go by. We transfer to the metro, the underground train here in Los Angeles. Is anybody sitting here? I could get lost in all these tall buildings. Found a directory so no getting lost anymore. I love these holiday ornaments. They are heavier than they look. I think I will leave this one here. I just need to update my toy voyager account before the boss gets back. How do you turn these things on? There is plenty of room on the sidewalks. Candy Cotton and I enjoy seeing the sites and visiting interesting places I think we are both ready to head back now. After a hard day's work, it is nice to unwind on the Metro. Wait, now which bus do we take? I had a great time and won't ever forget all the great sights and all the great people I met. However my wanderlust has been at least temporarily sated and I feel my home calling to me. I long for the Dartmoor Forest and the foam-flecked coasts. Maybe I will even make it home in time for the Christmas festivals. To my good friends, thank you for your hospitality and I look forward to seeing you again one day. |

today we visit mont olta near calpe. there is a small church we wanted to check out. puch, it was a bit of climbing up the mountain so we needed to take a big sip from the well. there you see ifach, a hug rock looking out of the sea. all postcards in calpe have ifach on them ... |

today we made a day trip to benidorm. this is a holiday place full of ugly tower blocks. because i didn't want to keep this horrible sight in memory we only took pictures near the sea.
at first we climbed up some stairs to have a good view. we also used some binoculars to see even further! and then i wondered how to get to the island we spyed ... well there were some cannons standing around and we just tried this way ... off we went! |

before we leave this beautiful summerly place to return to winterly germany ... i suggested to froschi and mono to go picking oranges. great idea! everyone chose his favorite fruit from the tree. ... hmmm how lovely they smell those oranges ... and how juicy they are! delicious. |

something wonderfully relaxing to do on a sunny day in bremen is to go to the riverside. then the osterdeich is full of people. watching the river and the boats passing by is great after a hard day's work as toyvoyager |
miss agi Posted Aug 5, 2011, 6:03 pm |
let's not forget about some typical sight-seening in bremen.
for example bremen's statue of liberty: roland. st. peter cathidral. and of course bremen's town musicians! |
miss agi Posted Aug 7, 2011, 12:12 pm |
ah well, these town musicians were quite nice guys and they invited me to get a little closer and spend the afternoon together |
