Hei! Hello!
I aaaaaam in Fiiiiiiinnnnnnlaaaaannnd! Yes, I arrived here today, and I got a warm welcome. There were many other ToyVoyagers there waiting for me. I showed them what I took with me from home. Well, let me introduce everyone... This is Kurnau cat. He is hostmom's own toy, and he is also my host here. He promised to try his best that I enjoy my time here. And guess what?!? Because I'm a cat, too, I just helped Kurnau to fullfill one part of his life mission (to host 10 TV cats). Isn't that great? I met another cat. She is Kit-Kat from Germany. Wayne cincerbreadman is also from Germany. This cute little sheep is Lina from Germany. Oooooh, I met a dog! Well, this one is kind one. He is Phog from Germany. This is Cody Otter beaver from Austria. This is Ronja teddy bear from Germany. Then I met this cute pony, Flowipowi, from Germany. ...And Sausi Karl the pelican from Germany, too. ...Hunny bunny from USA. ...Ranja Dragon from Germany. ...And Alberto monkey from Spain. He arrived here also today. He has a big T-shirt with him, and I wanted to try it on. Hih, it's little too big for me... We had a welcome party here! Kurnau put a music on. He was our DJ. And then we dance... ...and dance... ...and dance even more... ...untill we got tired. It was really fun! I'm so happy now, because one of my dream comes true. I visit in Finland! This is my first place to visit, and I already got a life mission completed, wow!!! Love, Nyankororin |

Hello!
Today I went to walk little outside. Look, there's already an autumn in Finland. It was a rainy day, so I didn't go very far from the hostmom's house (I didn't want to get wet). I saw many things, what is typical in Finland at this time of the year. Look all those different colours! I think the autumn is quite beautiful time of the year, at least here. Well, hostmom said these colours are just started to come... and after few days it will be even more colourful, all colours will turn out more deeper! Enjoy watching these pictures! Love, Nyankororin |

Look the photos, and you can see the colours of nature, too. Yes, it's the most colourful time of this season, very soon all trees will be "naked", and then it's time wait some snow coming. I'm so exited, I want to see some snow... but I have to wait little more first... I'm fine here. Love, Nyankororin |

Hei! Hello!
It's getting quite cold outside in Finland already. Can you believe, the weather forecast has said it will be minus degrees Celcius outside in this weekend?!? And it might be snowing in Lapland very soon... I'm only wondering, when will come the first snow here Central Finland... Oh, I just need to wait little more... Just take a look at the picture. There's a sign, and you can see how far away Jyväskylä city is from other countries... Wow! Love, Nyankororin |

Hei! Hello!
Today I visited to see the oldest building of Jyväskylä. The building called as Taavettilan riihi, which is in English the drying barn of Taavettila. The building has buildt somewhere in 1700's, the exact year is unknown. First, building used as a drying barn, but somewhere in 1800's it became usual barn/cabin and it got windows then. In 1900's the building started to be a cabin museum. Jyväskylän vanhin rakennus = the oldest building of Jyväskylä Riihi muutettu tuvaksi 1800-luvun alussa = a drying barn has turn to be a cabin in the beginning of 1800's Jyväskylän yliopisto = University of Jyväskylä Rakennus 3 = Building 3 Because we didn't have a chance to go in (the door was closed), we decided to look through the window... Hello!
Today I was so lucky to go to the restaurant! Hostmom has a postcrossing meeting, and she took me with her. We were in the restaurant named Huviretki. It was nice place. We wrote many postcards, ate yummy food, and talked to each other. It was very nice to meet new people, they all were so nice. I tried to decide what to eat. It was difficult to choose, because it was Finnish... Some other toys were there, too: Leila sheep, Kurnau cat and Tilla Mook horse, who was there with another human. Look, I ate this delicious dish! Offcourse others want to taste it, too. It was really nice day! Love, Nyankororin |

Hei! Hello!
Kurnau told me, that we all toys can travel with hostmom, when she will visit her parents in other side of Finland in this weekend. I was totally exited about it. It's so cool to see other placed in Finland, too. Kurnau showed me the map. Can you see the spots A and B in the map? Yes, that's our travel plan, it's about 320 kilometres. We are going to little village called Ilomantsi. It's in the Northern Karelia in Finland. After sitting 4 hours in the car, I was tired and I wanted to relax. So, I experienced one Finnish thing, how to relax and take a bath at the same time: I went to sauna!!! And guess what? I met saunatonttu (=the elf of sauna) there!!! This room, sauna, is a hot place. Saunas are very common in Finland (maybe because the cold and long winter seasons?!?). Finns go to sauna to wash themselves, but also to relax. They throw some water to the kiuas (it's like the "oven", and there are some stones on it), and this hot kiuas makes the hole room so warm place to be. AAAaaaaahh, I'm sooooo relaxed now!!! Love, Nyankororin |

Hello!
Unfortunately, the weather is awful here... it's raining a lot... So, there's no sightseeing here today... But, the bad weather is not the problem for us! We can do many fun things inside, too. At first, I want to show you the coat of arms of Ilomantsi. It looks like this: And because there's three kanteles (kantele = it's one kind of instrument) in the picture of the coat of arms, I wanted to play this instrument. And happily I can say, that I did it. I played kantele. Kantele is the national instrument of Finland, and especially in Karelia. Others played it, too. And then, we found this marvellous little building! Wow! Hi hiiiiii!!!!! Here I am! And then, I saw something, what I first couldn't believe... Look yourself! Is it cool? So many medals and pokals etc!!! ...Hih, and I'm there somewhere, too. Can you find me? Well, can you see me now? Great! You found me!!! Well done! Oh, one more photo for today... I'm dreaming: "...and the winner is....... NYANKORORIN!!!" Hurray!!! It was fun day! Love, Nyankororin |

It's last day of our visit in Ilomantsi, and the weather is still bad... Well, because outside is terrible, we decided to make nice inside this house. Yes, we are going to bake some cookies! First need to use kaulin (= a rolling pin). Then it's time to make cookies. I made bunny shaped cookies. Kurnau helped. He put the cookies to the cookie sheet. Mmmmmm... it smells so good already! Cookies are ready! Yummy!!! Now it's time to enjoy! Love, Nyankororin |

Hi!
I read today's local newspaper named Keskisuomalainen today. Finnish is nice language, but very difficult to learn. But my hostmommy helped me to read the newspaper. Here's the front page: There was a big article about what happened last Saturday in Jyväskylä. A huge amount of water were wasted, because the watertower crashed down suddenly. Many people had to be some times without running water in their homes. The article tried to tell what really had happened. This was one big news here. (it was lucky, that I was in Ilomantsi last weekend). And then there was some advertisements. Hi hii, these speaking bubbles look so funny, don't you think so? Well... Ice hockey (jääkiekko in Finnish) is very popular sport in Finland. And offcourse there's at least one article of it in the newspaper. I liked reading comics. They were so funny! And offcourse I watched very carefully the weather forecast. It looks quite nice. Maybe we could go outside in the next following days... Love, Nyankororin |

Hei! Hello!
Today was nice weather outside, so I went there for little walk and to have some fresh air. I went to place called Harju (Jyväskylä Ridge). It's like a hill just next to city center. As you can see from the pictures, there's not snow anymore. All snow has melted away. Well, it's not a surprise, because it was the first snow. These stone stairs of Harju is very long... There's city center down there. This building is called Vesilinna. It's located in Harju. And there's the viewing tower in the building, too. I'm going there. Look, so nice views!!! Hello!
I was walking outside today, because it was really nice weather (-4 degrees Celcius, snowing very light). BUT, there was quite dark already outside, even thought it was only afternoon! Hostmommy told me about kaamos (the Polar night). It's the time of the year when the sun doesn't rise at all within few months!!! Can you believe it, the sun is completely below the horizon so long time in Lapland in winter? Luckily, this happens only Lapland, inside the polar circles. But the effects can be seen here in Central Finland, too. In winter light-time during days are only some hours per day, and the most of time is dark... Look!!! There's some kids playing ice hockey! Ice hockey (jääkiekko in Finnish) is very popular hobby in Finland. Very very popular! Then I continued walking, and I arrived in Harju. I have been in Harju earlier, too, but not in dark time. Look, there's so beautiful lights there! And here is the long stone steps of Harju Ridge. There's city center down there. I think this tree looks little spooky and scary!!! BOOOO!!! hihi And here are we all toys (little Sunny, Kurnau, me, Bussi and Phog ). We are very near of the city center. Then I saw something really nice! A Christmas tree!!! Oooooh, it's so big! But really beautiful with all those lights and a star Now I'm in the city center. I'm going to see some Christmas lights... Beautiful! This big star is the most beautiful Christmas light I have seen here! Look, there's also a star on the ground... or it looks like a star. Hostmommy told me, that “the star” on the ground is a big compass!!! Yeah, when I looked it more carefully, I saw there's a biggest arrow to show the North. Cool! I saw many interesting things today. Love, Nyankororin |

My plan was go there to play with the snow, but I couldn't be there long time, only some minutes. It was freezing! But, the cold weather makes the nature looks so beautiful! Well, you will underestand what I mean when you look the pictures. Enjoy! Love, Nyankororin |

Hello!
Today is the independence day of Finland. It's a national public holiday held on 6th December to celebrate Finland's declaration of independence from Soviet Russia. Finland's independence started in 1917. Now I'm going to show you how we celebrate this day. Look the pictures! I went outside and hold the flag of Finland. Others were there, too. And then we decided to bake cookies. Yummy! We made cookies with the shape of Finland. MMmmmmmmm.... they smell already so good!!! After cookies came out off the owen, it's time to put jam between two cookies... ...and then we decorated cookies with the colours of Finland: blue and white. Yummy! Now the cookies are ready to eat!!! In the evening, we watched the TV show about the Presidential Independence Day Reception from the Presidential Palace. This event is Linnanjuhlat in Finnish. Famous or well-known Finns are there, dance, small talk, little snacks...etc. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, FINLAND! HYVÄÄ ITSENÄISYYSPÄIVÄÄ, SUOMI! Love, Nyankororin |

Today is very exiting day: Jouluaatto (Christmas Eve). We did some piparkakku (Christmas cookies). And then we decorated the joulukuusi (Christmas tree). Hihii, this Christmas tree is outside We went to joulusauna (Christmas sauna). And then we eat jouluruoka (Christmas food). There's for example ham, chicken, fish, different kinds of casserole, Karelian pies, cheece etc. Yummy! And in the evening we went to joulukirkko (Christmas Church). Then we eat joulupuuro (Christmas porridge). It's rice porridge, and we eat it with socker, cinnamon and milk. And very exiting thing is that there's one almond hidden in the porridge, and the person who got the almond to his plate, this person will have good luck the hole next year. (it's one kind of myth or magic thing... ) ...and we eat also some Finnish Christmas desserts: joulutorttu (sweet tart made by puff paste and plum jam on it) and piparkakku (Christmas cookies). And guess what??? Then I really met the joulupukki (Santa Claus)!!!! It was really awesome day! I'm really lucky to was able to spend Christmas in the homecountry of Santa Claus! Today I was walking outside again. Now I want to show you some places of Ilomantsi. Ilomantsi is nice small village in the very Eastern Finland. This building is the city hall of Ilomantsi. This is the main street, and there's almost all shops and groceries. I like those red street lambs. Suddenly I saw an aeroplane in the sky (just take a look at the white line in the sky). Maybe the plane was going to Japan?!? It was -17 degrees Celcius today. This is "the water tower" of Ilomantsi. I don't know, what is the current English word for it. Look this beautiful view! Hello mommy!
Today is laskiaistiistai, so we all baked some laskiaispulla. Laskiaistiistai or in English Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Tuesday and Pancake Day) is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Shrove Tuesday is determined by Easter; its date changes annually. In Finland the day is called laskiainen and is generally celebrated by eating green pea soup and a pastry called laskiaispulla (sweet bread filled with whipped cream and jam or almond paste). The celebration often includes sledging. Here you can see photos about we are baking the laskiaispulla. First we mixed together some warm milk, eggs and put little bit cardamom there. And then we add some sugar, butter and other spices. ...and ofcourse some wheat flavor. Mixed them well together. Now it's time to wait little bit... ...and after waiting some time, it has increased by itself!!! We made some big balls (these are going to be sweet pastries), and put some egg and sugar on them. Hmmmm... it already smells so good! After having them in the oven, they were almost ready. We cut them in two pieces, and put some jam there... ...and then we put some whipped cream there, too. Yummy! Now they are ready, and we can eat them, and just enjoy! Sooooooo good!!! Love, Nyankororin |

Hello mommy!
Today I visit in Fuengirola city. I saw a historical castle on a hill, and I decide to go and see it closer. It was interesting plaze! Here is some information about this place: "Sohail Castle is situated on a hill at the mouth of the River Fuengirola. It was built in the mid-tenth century by Abd al-Rahman III and destroyed in the fifteenth century during the Christian conquest. Highlight its high towers and battlements. At present within many cultural events take place, home to the Festival City of Fuengirola. Since its surroundings get beautiful views of the coast." Just take a look at the pictures, and you will see this old historical place, too! Love, Nyankororin |

Hello mommy!
Right now I'm in the Mediterranean Sea to going to Tanger, Morocco, Africa! Isn't it this view and the big Sun looking beautiful? There it is! There is the Africa! Look the horizon! Look, the national flag of Morocco! Mommy, I'm in the city of Tanger. Great! We had a guided walking tour in the old city of Tanger. This old part of Tanger city has buildt in the 14th century. And I met there many local people in the street. They were friendly, but some of them looked poor. The streets are narrow, and the buildings are just next to each others. But there's many very beautiful details in windows and doors. Well, just take a look my pictures, and you will see more... On the back of the next pictures there's the harbour of Tanger city. And mommy, there's the big ocean: The North Atlantic Ocean!!! Two street cats came to see what we were doing in there. I said hello to them! In the next pictures you can see local people and their works. We visited some local shops, too. We went to the local popular restaurant to eat something. The hole restaurant was very beatifully decorated, and there were some musicians to playing live music. It was fun. I don't know exactly what the food was, but there were some kind of soap for starters. After that was two grilled meat sticks. Then we got the main dish: rice and chicken with some kind of vegetables. And for dessert some kind of sweet pasties, and green tea. After eating I met a cameln baby!!! Then we visited inside of the big cave in the beach. From the cave there's the straight view to the North Atlantic Ocean! And there's more pictures of this great ocean. And there's Spain in the horizon! It was really lovely and exiting day! In the evening we came back to Spain, and our hotel. Love, Nyankororin |

Alpine descent of the cattle
The sound of cowbells is heard all the way down the valley, prayers spread a thoughtful atmosphere and alpine farmers proudly and happily wear the traditional costume. On the day of the Alpine cattle descent, a farmers market takes place at the village of Kerns. Oh yes, we really had fun. Me and the kids loved watching cows and other animals. It's a traditional swiss costume with swiss flair. |

Because of host-mom's birthday, we've spent some days in Roma (Italy). I've seen many interesting buildings ...and I also saw Papa Francesco!
Let's enjoy the pictures: Vatican City is a landlocked sovereign city-state whose territory consists of a walled enclave within the city of Rome. It has an area of approximately 44 hectares (110 acres), and a population of around 840. This makes Vatican City the smallest internationally recognized independent state in the world by both area and population. Vatican City is an ecclesiastical or sacerdotal-monarchical state, ruled by the Bishop of Rome—the Pope. The highest state functionaries are all Catholic clergymen of various national origins. It is the sovereign territory of the Holy See and the location of the Pope's residence, referred to as the Apostolic Palace. The Popes have generally resided in the area that in 1929 became Vatican City since the return from Avignon in 1377, but have also at times resided in the Quirinal Palace in Rome and elsewhere. In the city are cultural sites such as St. Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museums. They feature some of the world's most famous paintings and sculptures. The unique economy of Vatican City is supported financially by the sale of postage stamps and tourist mementos, fees for admission to museums, and the sale of publications. The independent city-state was established in 1929 by the Lateran Treaty, signed by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Gasparri, on behalf of Pope Pius XI and by Prime Minister Benito Mussolini on behalf of King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy. The treaty spoke of it as a new creation, not as a vestige of the much larger Papal States (756–1870) that had previously encompassed much of central Italy. People are waiting for Papa Francesco! ...we're not alone... ...can you see him? And of course, I also saw the traditional Swiss Guard in their colorful clothes. ...but as it was raining, they wore blue gowns. Here are some pictures without me. I hope you'll like it too. I can't be on the picture, because I was the photographer!!! The Christmas crib on St.Peter's Place. The four Raphael Rooms (Italian: Stanze di Raffaello) form a suite of reception rooms, the public part of the papal apartments in the Palace of the Vatican. They are famous for their frescoes, painted by Raphael and his workshop. Together with Michelangelo's ceiling frescoes in the Sistine Chapel, they are the grand fresco sequences that mark the High Renaissance in Rome. St. Peter's Basilica is a Late Renaissance church located within Vatican City. ...it's amazing, isn't it? |

Some old stones... It's the archaelogical area of the Theater of Marcellus an the Portico of Octavia.
At first sight, it appears to be smaller version on the Colosseum, which was nevertheless built a good 83 years after the theatre. The differences are more evident on taking a closer look. The Theatre of Marcellus, for example, is semicircular, while the Colosseum is completely round as indeed an amphitheatre should be. The Theatre of Marcellus is perhaps the oldest theatre to have survived until the present day. Initially begun by Julius Caesar, it was completed by the Emperor Augustus in 11 B.C., and was dedicated to his nephew Marcus Claudius Marcellus, who died five years before it was finished at the age of just 19. |

I hope I always sad the truth... because we're visiting "the Mouth of Truth" (Bocca della Verità).
La Bocca della Verità (English: the Mouth of Truth) is an image, carved from Pavonazzo marble, of a man-like face, located in the portico of the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome, Italy. The sculpture is thought to be part of a first-century ancient Roman fountain, or perhaps a manhole cover, portraying one of several possible pagan gods, probably Oceanus. Most Romans believe that the 'Bocca' represents the ancient god of the river Tiber. The most famous characteristic of the Mouth, however, is its role as a lie detector. Starting from the Middle Ages, it was believed that if one told a lie with one's hand in the mouth of the sculpture, it would be bitten off. The piece was placed in the portico of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin in the 17th century. This church is also home to the supposed relics of Saint Valentine. ...ufff, nothing happend! |

Today we went up stairs. We went on the top of the Monumento Nazionale. The view was amazing!
The Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland) also known as the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II (National Monument to Victor Emmanuel II) or "Il Vittoriano" is a controversial monument built in honour of Victor Emmanuel, the first king of a unified Italy, located in Rome, Italy. It occupies a site between the Piazza Venezia and the Capitoline Hill. ...the horse in a miniature Version... We've just been on the top of this building. ...and now, I need a break! |
dawoni Posted Feb 11, 2014, 8:05 pm |
The Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi) is a fountain in the Trevi district in Rome, Italy, designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Pietro Bracci. Standing 26.3 metres high and 49.15 metres wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world. The fountain has appeared in several notable films, is a popular tourist attraction.
...I'm sorry, but the sun/shadow/light was very bad... ...and no, we weren't alone... |

Another archaeological area, ...but I forgot the name...!
Everything is old and needs to be renovated ..., but that's very expensive! One of hundreds of churches in Rome ...another church. |

The Colosseum or Coliseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. Built of concrete and stone, it was the largest amphitheatre of the Roman Empire, and is considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and engineering. It is the largest amphitheatre in the world.
The Colosseum is situated just east of the Roman Forum. Construction began under the emperor Vespasian in 70 AD,[3] and was completed in 80 AD under his successor and heir Titus.[4] Further modifications were made during the reign of Domitian (81–96). These three emperors are known as the Flavian dynasty, and the amphitheatre was named in Latin for its association with their family name. The Colosseum could hold, it is estimated, between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators, and was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. The building ceased to be used for entertainment in the early medieval era. It was later reused for such purposes as housing, workshops, quarters for a religious order, a fortress, a quarry, and a Christian shrine. Although in the 21st century it stays partially ruined because of damage caused by devastating earthquakes and stone-robbers, the Colosseum is an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome. It is one of Rome's most popular tourist attractions and has close connections with the Roman Catholic Church, as each Good Friday the Pope leads a torchlit "Way of the Cross" procession that starts in the area around the Colosseum. The Colosseum, like all the Historic Centre of Rome, Properties of the Holy See in Italy and the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980. In 2007 the complex was also included among the New7Wonders of the World, following a competition organized by New Open World Corporation (NOWC). The Pantheon from Greek: Πάνθεον [ἱερόν], an adjective understood as is a building in Rome, commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus as a temple to all the gods of ancient Rome, and rebuilt by the emperor Hadrian about 126 AD. The building is circular with a portico of large granite Corinthian columns (eight in the first rank and two groups of four behind) under a pediment. A rectangular vestibule links the porch to the rotunda, which is under a coffered concrete dome, with a central opening (oculus) to the sky. Almost two thousand years after it was built, the Pantheon's dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome. The height to the oculus and the diameter of the interior circle are the same, 43.3 metres (142 ft). It is one of the best-preserved of all Roman buildings. It has been in continuous use throughout its history, and since the 7th century, the Pantheon has been used as a Roman Catholic church dedicated to "St. Mary and the Martyrs" but informally known as "Santa Maria Rotonda." The square in front of the Pantheon is called Piazza della Rotonda. Piazza Navona is a city square in Rome, Italy. It is built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian, built in 1st century AD, and follows the form of the open space of the stadium. The ancient Romans came there to watch the agones ("games"), and hence it was known as "Circus Agonalis" ("competition arena"). It is believed that over time the name changed to in avone to navone and eventually to navona. |

Uffff, now I had enought history...
I'm hungry! Last but not least: The Spanish Steps! The Spanish Steps (Scalinata della Trinità dei Monti) are a set of steps in Rome, climbing a steep slope between the Piazza di Spagna at the base and Piazza Trinità dei Monti, dominated by the Trinità dei Monti church at the top. TheScalinata is the widest staircase in Europe. The monumental stairway of 135 steps was built with French diplomat Étienne Gueffier’s bequeathed funds of 20,000 scudi, in 1723–1725, linking the Bourbon Spanish Embassy, and the Trinità dei Monti church that was under the patronage of the Bourbon kings of France, both located above — to the Holy See in Palazzo Monaldeschi located below. The stairway was designed by architects Francesco de Sanctis and Alessandro Specchi. Arrivederci Roma - I had a good time here! |
