Hello everyone! I'd like to tell you my story. I was adopted in Wisconsin. Here's a photo of me from the orphanage/charity shop. I was so happy to meet Henrik and my new mother.
You can see I was doing one of my favorite activities, sitting on a shelf and people-watching. |

Hi everyone,
This is me at my mom's summer cabin. We enjoyed lots of food -- with extra cheese -- and lots of beach time -- followed by early bed times. Love, Cherry Lola |

We often go to the coast. It's not just a treat for our toyvoyager visitors. It's a treat for all of us. We especially like to visit The Sea Ranch Chapel. It's a beautiful and serene place to worship.
kcrawfish Posted Oct 28, 2011, 8:02 am |
Well, I have watched toyvoyagers come and go over the months. You see, this is a photo of Dottie Mouse going home.
And you know what ... now I am ready to travel. I'll be saying goodbye to Mom, Tuli, Aslan, Peach the Pooch, and the big bears, but I will be saying hello back home or on the road one day. It's time for me to be going places! Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be on the road soon! Cherry Lola |

Good news! I have been invited to Canada, where my stripes will really stand out in the wintertime! I am so happy!
kcrawfish Posted Oct 29, 2011, 5:44 am |
Hey everyone!
I was ready to jump in the travelope, but Mom said Whoa, Bessie! Let’s find the toyvoy checklist in the Forum. So we read the checklist again and realized that I hadn’t been weighed and measured yet. Oops! I weigh, with my tag, 77 grams. And I’m 20 centimetres long, including my pointed <3 toes but not including my punk rock mane. So now that that is all settled, I am hopping in my travelope, and the next time you see me I’ll be in Canada!!! Bye for now, Lola |

Hi Mum,
I’m in Canada ! I had to wait a few days in a very small and crammed post box as apparently smaug was out of town, but today someone picked up my envelope and dropped it on a soft surface in the middle of what felt like a crowd . When I managed to make my way out, I realised that it was a crowd indeed...of toyvoyagers . There are Sofia from Finland, Quentin Ducky from the UK, Jujube from the US like me, Orpheus, one of smaug’s TVs who is home for a short holiday and sammino, a stay-at-home TV who explained to me that he looks after the well being of all guests here in Calgary . It seems they have been on some sort of unplanned diet , as they really almost dived on the sweets that I brought over with me . |
||
smaug Posted Nov 19, 2011, 4:18 am |
Hi Mum,
Guess what? I have just arrived and I am already welcoming a new guest. Today smaug showed up with a TV-suspicious parcel. Of course we all gathered to see who was going to come out of it. It was Cassiopeia, a nice turtle from Germany . She is one of the most experienced TV ever, so we didn’t really give her the chance to rest and we pinned her down all night to hear everything about her travelling . |
||
smaug Posted Nov 21, 2011, 4:06 am |
Hi Mum,
It sure is busy with new arrivals here this week . Once again smaug came back with a parcel holding a new guest inside . This time it was Sweetsy, a nice gingerbread man from Germany ! And he brought over some great gifts for us: a lovely “self-themed” card and some delicious German Christmas sweets ...which, of course, fuelled a long night of chatting . |
||
smaug Posted Nov 22, 2011, 3:32 am |
Hi Mum,
Temperatures were in the freaking minus twenties over the week end , but sammino explained that it was a great chance for us to get acclimatised to the proper Canadian winter weather and he convinced smaug to take us for a short walk in the foothills . At least the sun was shining . The trail was covered in snow, but just a couple of cm. We stopped at this sign to check where we were: luckily we were not lost . Eventually we reached the highest spot of our walk, where we had a great view of the mountains around us . At this point we stopped to recover and sammino made appear a cup of boiling tea along with a well deserved bar of chocolate ....the best part of the day . |
||
smaug Posted Nov 24, 2011, 3:39 am |
Hi Mum,
Today we said goodbye to Sofia and Orpheus who are ready to travel to their next hosts . They are both going to Germany...but using separate envelopes . |
||
smaug Posted Nov 29, 2011, 4:29 am |
Hi Mum,
Today we went for a short hike in the foothills . As it often happens, we spent the first part of the day between the trees, but soon the view improved . This ridge was very exposed to both sun and wind, so all the snow had disappeared ... ...but our way forward looked snowy enough . Luckily TVs are lighter than humans and don’t sink so much into the snow, so, since the trail was well marked, we left smaug toiling up his way behind us and marched ahead following sammino . Eventually we reached the summit ridge where the view was great. We could see the prairies and even Calgary far in the east ... ...and mountains everywhere else . |

Hi Mum,
After a long time being very quiet (smaug was quite busy and, despite our best efforts to get his attention, we felt a bit invisible over the last few weeks ), today we had the first glimpse of hope of being active again . sammino left us for the day and came back with two guests....two deeply asleep guests . As they woke up they introduced themselves as Landroval , a native Canadian eagle coming back for the holidays and Sigfrido, sammino’s delegate and representative in France . They offered to us some lovely (and very appropriate) sweets that they collected while travelling here . But they also told us that they have even more interesting goodies hidden somewhere in their baggage, can’t wait to see that . |
||
smaug Posted Dec 26, 2011, 3:43 am |
Hi Mum,
Merry Christmas ! This morning we found a lot of presents on the floor... ... but, since they didn’t seem to be for us , we focused our attention on some of the sweets that Landroval and Sigfrido brought from France and Italy . Later we decided to burn some calories and went for a walk along the river. That red bridge over there is a new pedestrian passage over the river which was supposed to be open almost 18 months ago ...and that hopefully will be open sometimes next year . Back home we expected to have a turkey meal , but sammino said that he had organize and unconventional Christmas lunch based on his favourite local product...massively thick steaks ! After that, to be even more unconventional, we topped the meal with a lovely chocolate cake . Well, eventually we were so full that we fell asleep...dreaming of more food, of course . |

Hi Mum,
Today we went for a short trip near Calgary in the Elbow Valley. First we walked a bit along the Elbow River . Moving on we reached the Elbow Falls and had a look at the falls from the upstream side...which looked a bit scary . While the canyon immediately downstream was quite nice ....but freaking cold, so we just went back hiding in the car . |
||
smaug Posted Jan 3, 2012, 2:15 am |
Hi Mum,
Today we explored a bit around Calgary . First we roamed around the streets looking at the skyline. Then we entered a mall and stopped a bit to rest. Those flags are for the Junior Hockey World Championship which is going on right now in Calgary. Later we explored a bit the mall... ...and just before heading home we found this lovely curtain of lights ...it probably looks better without the daylight coming in from the glass roof . |
||
smaug Posted Jan 3, 2012, 3:37 am |
Hi Mum,
Today we gathered all together to say goodbye to Landroval and Sigfrido who are travelling back to Europe and will arrived just in time to celebrate New Year’s eve ...assuming they won’t be too jet-lagged . |
||
smaug Posted Jan 9, 2012, 3:39 am |
Hi Mum,
Today we went for a short hike near Calgary. Most of the route was between trees with the occasional viewpoint . Once we reached the summit the views were great and, funny enough, the place is so windswept that there was hardly any snow around . On the way down we noticed that someone had built a igloo . The outside didn’t looked exactly state of the art in igloo construction ... ...but is seemed solid enough, so we went inside to take some shelter from the wind and have some rest. And it was actually very warm and comfortable , too bad eventually we had to leave and go home . |

smaug Posted Feb 2, 2012, 4:47 am |
Hi Mum,
Today we were bored to stay at home so, despite the weather forecast not being exactly beautiful, we convinced smaug to head to the mountains . It was actually a bit cold and cloudy, so we hid in the backpack until we reached the first stop of our day, Rawson Lake. The lake was frozen solid and covered with snow (like everything else around it ) but, half covered by clouds, we could see the imposing face of Mount Sarrail at the back of it. On the opposite side of the lake we could see our destination, that ridge up there. So, up we went in the middle of the trees. Breaking trail in the deep snow was hard work...so we left smaug taking care of that . Once we reached the top, the clouds were getting thicker and lower, but we still could see the frozen shapes of Kananaskis Lakes. On the way down we had a great idea: instead of sticking with smaug at his painfully slow pace, we decided to practise glissading on the snow and wait for him at the bottom. It was so much fun ! On second thought, maybe it wasn’t the best idea ever . Oouch! After this little accident we humbly went back in the backpack ad nursed our wounded pride with some chocolate for the rest of the day . |
||
smaug Posted Feb 21, 2012, 2:27 am |
Hi Mum,
Today smaug had some time for us, so he took us up to the mountains to snowshoe a bit . We soon started questioning his trail selection strategy as it seemed that for the whole day the sun was always on the opposite side of the valley, but he seemed unfazed by our complaints . It was funny that, while we had to proceed in deep snow,... ...some of the peaks around us were almost snow-free . On the way we stopped to talk to this friendly bird and asked for directions . Eventually we reached our destination, which unfortunately was battered by the wind and clad in clouds ...except for the direction from which we had just come. So we took a photo and quickly took cover . |
||
smaug Posted Feb 29, 2012, 4:46 am |
Hi Mum,
It was fairly cold and snowing here in Calgary this weekend, so we stayed in town and went just to stretch our legs along the river, which is mostly but not completely frozen. Not surprisingly not many people were around . On the way we stopped to check how construction of the Peace Bridge is progressing....it seems there are chances that it might open less than 2 years late from the expected date . Later on, we politely explained to sammino that while we were sort of comfortable with the -15C , the wind was starting to bite a bit, particularly since we haven’t got specific arctic survival training . So we took a final look at downtown Calgary and headed back home... ...where we spent the afternoon nice an warm playing computer games . |
||
smaug Posted Mar 11, 2012, 10:00 pm |
Hi Mum,
Today was a nice and warm day so we went for a short walk to the foothills . It was actually nice and warm in Calgary, but only nice and freaking windy a bit higher up . Luckily most of the time we were walking between trees... ...passing by the occasional viewpoint . Once we reached the highest and most exposed spot of our little trip it got very, very windy, so we took a couple of shots trying not to get blown away and then took cover for the rest of the day . |
||
smaug Posted Mar 25, 2012, 7:41 pm |
Hi Mum,
Today eventually smaug had some time for us, so, even if the weather wasn’t exactly great, we went for a short hike in the snow . After a a bit of walking we crossed this lovely canyon . Then we reached the best viewpoint of the day: apparently on a normal day this would be a great view of the lake and of the mountains behind it....not today . So we kept going along the trail. Later on we decided to walk down to the lakeshore where the view was a bit clearer...although it was hard to tell what was lake and what was shore . And at that point the camera’s battery surrendered to the cold and, despite our best efforts, there was no way to revive it. So I’m afraid I will not be able to document all the lovely fog and clouds that we enjoyed during the rest of the day. |

Hi Mum,
Today smaug came home with a parcel that looked very likely to be the travelling quarters of a new guest , so we got very excited. And it was a new guest indeed, Petit Lapin , a nice rabbit from Germany who is traveling the Round Robin 16. He showed us the lovely cards that he brought with him , and then we spent the night chatting about past and future travelling . |
||
smaug Posted Apr 8, 2012, 5:12 am |
Hi Mum,
Today a new guest arrived in Calgary . Smaug brought back home an envelope and we immediately knew that it was a TV. And yes, a TV it was, Melek a nice hedgehog from Germany ...and he brought with him a lovely card and some delicious sweets . Of course the chocolate helped a lot in keeping high our sugar levels as we spent the night chatting . |
||
smaug Posted Apr 8, 2012, 11:37 pm |
Hi Mum,
Not only today is a holiday, but the weather looked gorgeous this morning, so we went for a bit of outdoor exercise . We picked a trail in the trees not too far from Calgary. The trees around us where still covered with the snow fallen last night . As we moved uphill the view even improved. By the time we reached the highest point of our day the weather has taken a sudden turn...for the worse , and the snow started falling. Soon the light snow turned into a heavy snowfall, so we took shelter under a tree. As we were cheering ourselves up with some tea and a chocolate bar , we asked sammino if it was normal for the weather to switch from incredibly clear and blue sky into a blizzard in a couple of hours. He just answered : “Welcome to Calgary” . |
||
smaug Posted Apr 10, 2012, 4:30 am |
Hi Mum,
Happy Easter ! We were hoping to celebrate with some gigantic chocolate egg , but smaug was concerned about our diet , so we just got small TV sized egges ....still there was enough of them for everyone . |

smaug Posted Apr 25, 2012, 5:00 am |
Hi Mum,
Today we are having a little taste of summer , so we expected to go to the mountains and find the snow gone for good...well almost . We spent the first part of our day in this nice little valley from where we could see the runs at Nakiska ski resort...all still open . Moving on we entered a forest where the snow didn’t really seem in the mood to disappear. Eventually we reached the top of this trail, from where we had nice views in the direction we came from... ...and on the opposite side, to the East . South of us we could see Midnight Peak. sammino explained to us that, without snow, it would be a nice walkable ridge ...but not now with all that snow, maybe in a few weeks....maybe . |
||
smaug Posted Apr 30, 2012, 4:49 am |
Hi Mum,
Today sammino turned into an adult eagle , (wow, I wonder how many places I will have visited by the time I turned 18 ), so we decided to throw a little birthday party for him . First we blindfolded him and took him to the “party room”. Here we showed him the cake we had prepared ,... ..., the “themed” card that we got him, and we also, of course, sang Happy Birthday for him . He even got a present from his friend Sigfrido in France who sent him a little lovely artwork . After singing and laughing it was time to get to the real business, the cake ...which turned out to be delicious . |
||
smaug Posted May 5, 2012, 5:57 am |
Hi Mum,
Today once again the weather was reasonably warm, so we went for a short hike . We actually have been in the same area a few weeks ago when it was covered with snow, but today the lower parts of the trail were almost bone dry . Of course there were plenty of spots where the snow was still unchallenged . Eventually we reached a nice viewpoint at the top of a ridge where we could see the mountains in the west ... ...and even the prairies far in the east. And, as usual it soon started snowing, so we hastily made our way back home . |

And, as soon as we managed to open it , a new TV popped out, Greeny delMonte a nice bear from Germany . Hi Mum,
Spring is coming here in Calgary . We had a bit snow during the week, but today it was warm (so to speak ) and sunny, so we headed to the mountains. Our trail passed by a lovely viewpoint over Lake Minnewanka . Later we dived into the trees, but soon we started gaining elevation and saw the lake again. Eventually we reached our destination, the site of an abandoned fire lookout. Here we could see the valley leading to Aylmer Pass,... ...Mt Aylmer,... ...and again Lake Minnewanka which, in the upper part, was still partly frozen . On the way back we stopped on the lake shore to enjoy the sun . The water looked so crystal clear that we were tempted to go for a swim ...then we remembered the ice that was still covering part of the lake and decided that maybe we should postpone the swimming for a few months . |
||
smaug Posted May 17, 2012, 5:09 am |
Hi Mum,
Today smaug came home with a small parcel and told us that we should probably be the ones opening it , so we got very curious. After working a bit to get it open, a new guest appeared : Elisa a nice sheep from Germany . Of course we want to know everything about her travels...so it’s going to be a very late night . |
||
smaug Posted May 29, 2012, 4:14 am |
Hi Mum,
Today smaug took us out for another trip to the mountains . Our destination was a valley west of Calgary. After walking some times in the tree we reached the valley...which is more or less the (mostly) dry bed of a seasonal creek. Moving on we could see snowy mountains around us... ...and Nihahi Ridge just behind us. After fighting a bit with deep snow and thick trees we reached the northeast ridge of Mt Fullerton . Here we could see the valley that we just left far below us... ...again Nihahi Ridge... ...and the summit of Mt Fullerton. At this point we made a surprise to Melek and organized a sudden birthday party for him . Of course we sang Happy Birhday... ...and had some special sweets ready. Unfortunately smaug couldn’t be talked into bringing a cake up here , so we had to do with some chocolate cookies . |
||
smaug Posted Jun 2, 2012, 7:30 pm |
Hi Mum,
Guess what?! Another guest arrived today (it’s getting crowded around here ). Once again smaug came home and told us that there was a parcel for us . And, as we managed to open it, a new TV popped out of it, Tatanka, a nice buffalo from Germany . He showed us the wonderful presents that he brought along and then we spent the evening chatting and listening about his recent travels . |

Hi Mum,
These days neither the weather (always bad in the weekend) nor smaug (always at work) are helping much in keeping us entertained , but luckily, as for yesterday, we have some distraction: football ! The Euro Cup 2012 has started and we have plenty of matches to watch on TV . As it is a European tournament I don’t really care about the winner, but our little German colony today was super-excited when Germany were ready to take on Portugal... ...so we started watching the game all together. They got even more excited when Germany scored.... ...and when the match was eventually over. Just too bad that smaug didn’t leave any appropriate victory-party food supplies ...maybe for the next match . |

Hi Mum,
Today, after a few quiet weekends , smaug took us again up to the mountains . As it often happens, the first part of the morning was spent between trees...a wonderful excuse to let smaug do the walking, take a little nap in his bag and make up for the sleep lost due to the early wake up . Eventually we reached a spot with a bit of view where we could look at both the mountains around us... ...and the prairies far away in the east . The weather didn’t look very nice so we thought it was time to head back and maybe enjoy a nice hot chocolate , but smaug said there was no reason not to try reach our target of the day, that peak up there . So, off we went. Listening to the wind howling outside the rucksack was a bit concerning , but somehow we reached the top and managed to take a few photos in the wind before hiding back inside. From up there we could see the Nakiska ski area... ...mountains both south and north... ...and again the prairies in the distance . |

Today I had a lot of fun! In the morning we drove to a little lake. With our new guest manager Fanny we built a beach shelter. Together we can do it! Done! It's so nice here! We rest a little at the lake then we must go home. I made radish salad because we were invited to a birthday party with barbecue at the afternoon. First boil some eggs.... .... then peel and cut. Also cut radishes... cheese.... and scallions. Put all into a bowl and ... add yogurt and... vinegar. Done! Yummi! Ismael, the godson of my host mum is today 10 years old. Happy birthday! Ismael with his best friend Noah. Bye, Cherry Lola |

Hello mum!
How are you? I hope fine! Today Fanny had a funny idea. She gave us a lesson in the Franconian dialect. The weather was fine so we could go outside. First we learnd food-words like eggs (Äer) or potato (Grumbern). Then animals: Hua, that means chicken or hen. Gögger: cock And Fannys favorit word because she is one: Bätzer - sheep. Things: Emer = a pail Lädder = ladder Then we learnd some other words like... Simbl (idiot, jerk) Towd (godfather) Wengert (vineyard) I was able to wipe the blackboard. I've taken notes. The lesson had just ended when Lumpi came to visit us. He is the dachshund from the neightbours. It was a great day! Love, Cherry Lola |

The summer is gone.... Now it's autumn... And what we do in the autumn? Fanny had a great idea. We make kite and let them fly! At the afternoon the weather was sunny so we go outside. Fanny showed how I can make a kite. Then I made my own. Done! I sign it. Only for you ! I hope you like it... All kites are very nice! In the evening blew the wind so I let fly my kite. What a fun! Fannys kite was blown into a tree! She was very sad... So we helped her to get her kite back! We're a fantastic team! It was a great day! Lots of love, Cherry Lola |

But this was not the end of the day!
At the afternoon hostdad took us to the kitchen. We baked bread with him! First: Dissolve yeast in warm water with sugar. Then grind the bread-spice. 3 kinds of flour: rye flour wheat-wholemeal-flour spelled flour Add the bread-spice and sunflower seeds. Then water... and vinegar. Look! The yeast has fermented. Mix everything. Then knead... ...and knead... ... and knead. Done! Put in a bowl.... blanket. Now we have to wait an hour. We are curious. Look! The dough has doubled! And then knead again. Now it looks like a bread. It smells great! In the oven for an hour. Done! It smells gorgeous! With butter the bread tastes fantastic! It was a wonderful day! Bye, Cherry Lola |

Dear mom,
a few days ago I heard that your're an angel now. I can't says how sad I am ... Today I was on the little lake across the street, I looked in the water and send a prayer to you. Then I found a dandelion and I thought: First he is yellow, then he changed. Like you mom. You are not away, you've only changed. I'll let you go because I know, wherever I go you are with me in my heart. I love you mom - forever! In love, Cherry Lola |
||

Hello Angel-Mom!
I'm still very sad ... Every day I think to you... It's very hard but life goes on... We're moving! It's a lot do to! Pack, pack, pack... We load the truck. The heavy stuff load host-dad and host-mom's nephew Simon. Full! A gift from the neighbours: a voucher for a wine bar. 6 hours later.... Done! Fanny and I are totally k.o. I hope we will all have a good time and fun at the new home... Love you! |

There is a little museum with old aircraft and tanks. Unfortunately it was closed, but we saw this aircraft behind the fence. A beautiful timbered house. On easter the fontains will decorated with eastereggs. Then we drove to the river "Main". Hostmum said that we go to the other side, but there's no bridge... Look! I drove with a little ferry over the river! It was so cool! I had a lot of fun! Bye, Cherry Lola |

I saw a swan.... ... and a big transport ship. Yippie! Let's getting started! The landscape is very beautiful! This is the little fairy they I drove few weeks ago. The view is amazing! Halftime! We turn over. We all get hungry after the tour! We go to a typical American diner in Dettelbach. I drink icetea. Cheesburger with french fries and salat with a backed potato. I'm an American girl ! It was a fantastic day! Kiss, Cherry Lola |

Hallo Angel-Mom!
Today said Fanny that we drive to a big thing... What could it be? Look! I'm in Ulm, a city in Baden-Wuerttemberg and behind me is the "big thing". This is the cathetral of Ulm, the highest church steeple of the world! 161,53 m! It was very hot so we go to a beer garden and drank some. It's wonderful under the chestnut trees! |

I stay here for over a year.... Everyday I think of you mom... I miss you so much... But it's time to travel further! For you! I got an invitation from Emjay from the Netherlands! It's not too far away from my new home in Germany. On the PC I found some informations about Delft. What a wonderful city! I said goodbye to... Rosalind Sally Seal HelgaHH rosemarie and Fanny. See you soon! Cherry Lola |

Dear Cherry Lola,
I'm glad you are coming! I hope you have a safe and comfortable trip. Orkku Orava and Emil are waiting for you. I'm sure we'll have some nice adventures! See you soon! Emjay, Orkku & Emil |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 17, 2013, 11:04 am |
Dear Angel-mommy and Foster-mommy!
I am in the Netherlands! This morning I was delivered at Emjay's place by the mailman. And soon after that a heard some voices. Someone was opening the envelope with a pair of scissors! Be careful with my beautiful hair! |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 17, 2013, 11:07 am |
Phew, my hair is still there!
When I came outof the envelope I was a bit puzzled. I looked around and saw two friendly faces, a nice garden and a tablecloth with... a map of Greece! But I'm in the Netherlands, right? |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 17, 2013, 11:08 am |
"Welcome to the Netherlands!" the little donkey said. "I am Emil".
"Hi, I'm Orkku Orava," the squirrel said. Let's hug! |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 17, 2013, 11:09 am |
I already like my new friends! They made such a lovely welcome sign for me!
Emjay Posted Aug 17, 2013, 11:13 am |
They liked my postcard with the flowers.
And then it was time to eat! First we ate something healthy. |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 17, 2013, 11:14 am |
And then we had some candy. Yummy!
Emjay Posted Aug 17, 2013, 11:16 am |
But why are we sitting on the map of Greece? My new friends explain to me: we are invited to go on a holiday to Greece with Emjay! What a surprise! I've never been to Greece before!
Orkku Orava points out where we're going: first to Parga, in the region of Epiros on the mainland. |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 17, 2013, 11:18 am |
And then to the isle of Levkas. Great!
Emjay Posted Aug 17, 2013, 11:19 am |
We go for a stroll in the garden and I meet one of Emjay's cats. I think she's a little arrogant, looking away like that!
Emjay Posted Aug 17, 2013, 11:20 am |
She can't be bothered!
Well, that's it for now. I will write you again soon! Bye! Big kiss, your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:17 pm |
Dear Angel-mommy and Foster-mommy,
I will show you some beautiful flowers in Emjay's garden. |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:18 pm |
Almost the same colour as I am!
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:23 pm |
Look at that: three butterflies on one flower!
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:25 pm |
Emjay took me to the city center of Delft by bike today.
What a peaceful canal, this is! It wasn't easy to find peaceful parts of Delft today, because the city was bursting with tourists and students! |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:26 pm |
The townhall of Delft is really pretty. People from all over the country come here to get married. And it's an inspiration for painters too!
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:28 pm |
I'm on the balconny of the townhall, overlooking the marketplace and the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church). It isn't that new, cause it was build in the 13th century!
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:29 pm |
This looks a bit psychedelic!
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:30 pm |
This is a very famous man in Delft: William of Orange, an anchester of King Willem Alexander.
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:32 pm |
Delft is also famous for... Delft blue pottery. For this bench broken pottery from the Royal Delft factory was used.
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:33 pm |
This is the Oude Kerk (Old church), also known as "Old John". It has a leaning tower.
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:36 pm |
The Old Church stands at the oldest canal of Delft, called Oude Delft (Old Delft). Well, Dutch people aren't very good in giving original names to their churches and streets! The Oude Delft is a very posh street, where many doctors and attorney's have their offices. In front of the houses are some fancy fences. Nice to climb on!
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:37 pm |
I LOVE Delft! | ||
Emjay Posted Aug 20, 2013, 8:39 pm |
Well, dear mums, I hope you liked my update. Here are some nice, colourful flowers for you!
Love you! Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:00 pm |
Dear Angel-mom and Foster-mom,
At about 20 minutes walk from Emjay's home the countryside begins. There's a lovely church where Emjay usually takes her guests. It's called "Op Hodenpijl". It's not in service as a church anymore. but it's an exhibition space, a restaurant, a farmshop and a cultural center. |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:02 pm |
Some impressions of the interior. Nice, isn't it?
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:03 pm |
We climb the stairs to the tower and we have a nice view to three sides.
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:04 pm |
A quiet moment in the chapel of the Brown Madonna.
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:05 pm |
We cross the road and there's a biological farm with lots of different animals. But first I see some beautiful flowers.
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:07 pm |
Look, two sheep and a goat, but they are a bit in the distance.
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:07 pm |
This mamma-pig is a lot closer!
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:08 pm |
These are her piglets. | ||
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:09 pm |
The chickens are really curious.
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:09 pm |
An old farm machine, but I don't know what it's for.
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:11 pm |
I'm like a needle in the haystack!
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:12 pm |
The calves are curious, but also cautious! Don't be scared, I won't bite!
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:13 pm |
Bye, bye goats! We're going home.
Emjay Posted Aug 23, 2013, 2:14 pm |
After our afternoon in the country, I was thirsty. Emjay bought my favorite drink: Cherry Cola! I'm putting a pink straw in.
That's it for now, dear moms! Bye! Love, your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 25, 2013, 8:17 am |
Dear Angel-mommy and Foster-mommy,
Just a short note from me. We're helping Emjay to make a jigsaw puzzle. It's supposed to be the Harbour of Padstow. Can you see it yet? |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 25, 2013, 8:18 am |
The weather is much to nice to sit inside! Seems like we're in Greece already!
Emjay Posted Aug 25, 2013, 8:19 am |
We're camping out tonight.
Emjay Posted Aug 25, 2013, 8:20 am |
Goodmorning, moms!
We slept very well in our little tent and now it's another great day! Bye for now! Love, Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:07 pm |
Dear Angel-mommy and Foster-mommy,
One of my life missions is fulfilled today! We listened to The Kinks, singing "Lola". Such a funny song with my name in it! |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:10 pm |
We also looked for the updates of Cuty. Cuty is staying with Eohippus, Orkku's mum. She takes him on nice outings. Here he is at a special shop.
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:12 pm |
We go for a stroll in the park. The leaves are all green still. I'm glad, cause I don't like autumn.
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:13 pm |
This is the geographical centrepoint of Delft, or something like that.
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:15 pm |
What a beautiful chestnut tree!
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:16 pm |
Heigh ho, heigh ho, in the forrest we will go!
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:17 pm |
Another nice spot. | ||
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:18 pm |
We're playing hide and seek. Can you find us, Emjay?
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:18 pm |
Mushrooms! | ||
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:21 pm |
All three of us. | ||
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:22 pm |
These plants are called "cigars" in Dutch.
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:23 pm |
When we were home again, we helped Emjay to make chutney and bake a bread.
I cut the onions for the chutney. It was heavy work! |
||
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:24 pm |
After I cut all the onions, we all needed a tissue, because we were crying!
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:25 pm |
I'm putting in some buttermilk to make the bread dough.
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:26 pm |
Hm, it looks a bit strange...
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:27 pm |
Oh, this is better. | ||
Emjay Posted Aug 26, 2013, 4:28 pm |
And this looks even more better!
Well, I'm gonna eat now. Until next time. Bye, dear moms! Your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 2, 2013, 9:15 am |
Dear Angel-mommy and Foster-mommy,
Here I am again with the latest news! We went to the seaside by tram today. When we walked to the tramstop, we saw this interesting piece of art. It is a Etruscan Treasure Trove, but Emjay insists it's a toy church! |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 2, 2013, 9:16 am |
Here we go! The tram takes us through the Hague and to a spot called Duindorp.
Emjay Posted Sep 2, 2013, 9:18 am |
Duindorp has a landscape with dunes. As you may know, a big part of the Netherlands lays beneath sealevel. The dunes are very important. They protect the coast area from flooding.
Emjay Posted Sep 2, 2013, 9:19 am |
Besides dunes, you can see these fellows in Duindorp. They're Scottish Highlanders.
Emjay Posted Sep 2, 2013, 9:19 am |
Look at that! I can see one in the distance!
Emjay Posted Sep 2, 2013, 9:21 am |
They're getting closer and closer! Just to be on the safe site, Emjay puts us in her bag. Scottish Highlanders are friendly animals, but for TV's they are strong and mighty! We peek outof the bag to have a look at them. Impressive!
Emjay Posted Sep 2, 2013, 9:23 am |
I can see the sea! | ||
Emjay Posted Sep 2, 2013, 9:25 am |
We take a relaxing walk through the dunes.
Emjay Posted Sep 2, 2013, 9:26 am |
One more look at the dunes before we go home again.
It looks a bit grey, but the weather was really nice. I'm enjoying my stay in the Netherlands! Bye for now. Hug from your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 4, 2013, 8:02 pm |
Dear Angel-mommy and Foster-mommy!
We had a nice surprise today! A thick, brown envelope came from Finland. Who could it be? |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 4, 2013, 8:04 pm |
Orkku opened the envelope and put her head in. Can you see someone, Orkku?
Emjay Posted Sep 4, 2013, 8:06 pm |
Out came a few blue hairs and then we saw a little doll.
"Hi, I'm Suomi-girl," she said. She's cute! |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 4, 2013, 8:08 pm |
We all gave her a hug. | ||
Emjay Posted Sep 4, 2013, 8:12 pm |
Suomi-girl shows us a lovely card from her mommy. And then we talked about our adventures and we ate black berries. It's nice to have another TV as guest!
Only a few more days and then we're off to Greece! How exciting! If you don't hear from me for some time, please don't worry. Maybe Emjay doesn't have the chance to update. I'm in good hands and I'm with my friends! It's gonna be fun! Bye, dear mommy's! I love you! Your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 9, 2013, 9:08 pm |
Dear Angel-mommy and Foster-mommy,
Yes, I'm on my way to Greece! Before we fly we have a cup of coffee at Starbuck's to wake up a bit. It's in the middle of the night, you know! |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 9, 2013, 9:10 pm |
We're on board now and checking out the airline brochure. There's a cute bear on sale.
Emjay Posted Sep 9, 2013, 9:11 pm |
It's still dark, so I can't see much outside. Only the wing of the airplane.
Emjay Posted Sep 10, 2013, 5:29 am |
We've landed! A transfer bus took us from the airport in Preveza to our apartment in Parga. And here we are!
Emjay Posted Sep 10, 2013, 5:30 am |
This is the balcony of the apartment. We can see a lemon and limetree orchard and the swimmingpool.
Emjay Posted Sep 10, 2013, 5:32 am |
And here we are at the swimmingpool. It's nice and warm. I'm gonna take a dive now!
Bye dear mommy's! Luv you! Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 18, 2013, 5:44 pm |
Dear Foster-Mommy and Angel-Mommy,
Here I am again, reporting from Greece. We're having a farewell party today for Tupah, the wild TV. He will be released tomorrow in Igoumenitsa. How exciting! |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 18, 2013, 5:46 pm |
Tupah is almost ready to start his adventure. We all give him a big hug and wish him luck. Bye, bye, Tupah!
Emjay Posted Sep 18, 2013, 5:48 pm |
As you know, one of my life missions is to eat a locally made cheese in every country. But look here: I'm in Greece and all I can find is Dutch or French cheese!
Emjay Posted Sep 18, 2013, 5:55 pm |
An envelope was delivered today. We are all very surprised. What could be in it?
Emjay Posted Sep 18, 2013, 5:58 pm |
We quickly opened the envelope and out came... Suomi-Girl! But how is that possible? Suomi-Girl had to stay home to look after Emjay's cats.
"Well, I asked the neighbour if she would take care of the cats," Suomi-Girl explained. "And she said yes! So I jumped in an envelope and put myself on the mail to Parga." |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 18, 2013, 5:59 pm |
We are all glad she's here and have a little celebration with Greek candy.
Emjay Posted Sep 18, 2013, 6:07 pm |
It has rained during the night, but now it's dry and I'm relaxing on the balcony. There's a wild cat coming up behind me. But I don't mind. I'm not afraid of pussycats.
Emjay Posted Sep 18, 2013, 6:08 pm |
This one looks a little mean, though...
Emjay Posted Sep 18, 2013, 6:13 pm |
Oh, dear, I've had a little accident
The mean cat knocked me off the balcony. Now I'm dirty and my foot is a little kaputt. But don't worry! I went to the spa and they cleaned me all up! They couldn't do anything about my foot. But it doesn't hurt. I just have to be careful with it. |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 18, 2013, 6:14 pm |
Look how dirty the water was! I fell right into a pool of mud, so you can imagine!
Emjay Posted Sep 18, 2013, 6:18 pm |
I'm taking a shower and then I'm ready to dry in the sun. Aaaah, I feel much better!
Everything's fine again, so don't worry, mommy's! I enjoy my stay in Greece very much, in spite of this little mishap! I'm glad I'm traveling again! Thinking of you, your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 5:51 am |
This is how my paw looks now: a bit ruffled. It doesn't bother me, but Emjay can patch it up when we're home again. What do you think, mommy?
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 5:55 am |
It's a special day today: it's Emjay birthday and... we're going on a small trip. First we visit the Zagoria region, which is a very beautiful nature reserve. We'll spend one night in Metsovo and the next day we will visit the Meteora monasteries.
This is one of the famous stone bridges in Zagoria. |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 6:00 am |
Here we are at the highest point of the bridge, singing "Happy birthday to you"!
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 6:00 am |
Now we look just like the Von Trapp family!
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 6:10 am |
Isn't this a beautiful landscape?
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 6:13 am |
Here we are in our luxury suite in Metsovo. In winter Metsovo is a ski resort! It's much cooler here than in Parga, but still I can't imagine there will be enough snow here for skiing!
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 6:15 am |
I meet Rudolph the reindeer in the hallway. He says I can borrow his skis and practise on a slope. I would love to try!
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 6:16 am |
So here I go! I put on the skis and...
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 6:18 am |
After my succesful skiing adventure, I did some shopping in the village. Metsovo has a lot of cheese shops! I bought a local cheese. It tasted very strong, stronger even than Parmesan cheese.
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 6:21 am |
We're having a party in honor of Emjay's birthday. Orkku had bought a present for her at the local olive oil factory in Parga. It's olive spread, to put on bread or toast. Emjay likes it a lot.
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 6:27 am |
And then we have a skiing match! I go first.
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 6:27 am |
Yay! A perfect landing!
After me it's Orkku's turn. She's a natural talent on skis. Off course, she's from Finland! |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 2:47 pm |
And now it's Emil's turn!
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 2:48 pm |
Oops! He falls down! Never mind, it's a soft landing in all that "snow"
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 2:51 pm |
Here comes Suomi-Girl. She uses one ski as a sledge. Go, go, go!
Dutchy didn't want to go, cause he's afraid of heights. He just cheered us on. |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 20, 2013, 2:55 pm |
What a great day it was! We saw some impressive landscapes and we had a lot of fun with the skiing match. Now we're all tired. Kalinichta, dear moms!
Luv you! Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 21, 2013, 5:43 pm |
Dear Mommy's,
Today we are in Kalambaka. Here you find Meteora, an amazing landscape with high rockpeaks. On some of the peaks monesteries were build in the Middle Ages. How did they do that, I wonder! |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 21, 2013, 5:49 pm |
We're inside one of the monasteries now and we have to be very quiet and well behaved. Behind us is a very old mural painting.
Emjay Posted Sep 22, 2013, 10:11 am |
I lit a candle for you, Angel-mommy. You are with me in my heart.
Then I went out in the garden. You can see the monastery behind me. |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 22, 2013, 10:13 am |
One more look at a high monastery and then we have to go back to Parga. It was a wonderful trip to Zagoria and Meteora!
Emjay Posted Sep 22, 2013, 4:00 pm |
We're making a little tour around our hometown of Parga today. First I meet my big friend Poseidon. Or is it Zeus? Or Hermes? My mythology isn't that good.
Emjay Posted Sep 22, 2013, 4:05 pm |
We're visiting the old castle and have a great view on Krioneri Bay and Valtos Beach.
Emjay Posted Sep 22, 2013, 4:06 pm |
I'm a peaceful little zebra, so I'm glad this canon isn't in use anymore. It's just decoration for me to pose on!
Emjay Posted Sep 22, 2013, 4:09 pm |
We're visiting the old olive oil factory, which isn't in use anymore. Now it's a museum and we're getting a guided tour. Our guide was a very nice and enthousiastic human. Now I know all about producing olive oil!
Emjay Posted Sep 22, 2013, 4:10 pm |
This is the beautiful St. Nicolas church.
Emjay Posted Sep 22, 2013, 4:11 pm |
And this is the anchor in Parga harbor.
Emjay Posted Sep 22, 2013, 4:13 pm |
Since my stay in Greece, I haven't even tasted feta cheese yet! But here it is. Yammy!
Emjay Posted Sep 22, 2013, 4:15 pm |
And at dinner time I had a big piece as well! That's another local cheese I can add to my list!
Bye, dear mommy's! Big kiss from Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 29, 2013, 8:21 pm |
Dear momy's!
I spend my last day in Parga talking with my friends at the balcony, relaxing at the pool and walking in the garden. |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 29, 2013, 8:22 pm |
One last look at the castle high on the hill.
Emjay Posted Sep 29, 2013, 8:23 pm |
And a nice farewell cocktail, nearly the same colour as me!
Emjay Posted Sep 29, 2013, 8:26 pm |
We've packed our little silver bag (TV's travel light!), cause tomorrow we'll go to our second holliday address: Vassiliki on the isle of Lefkas!
And now we're off to bed to sleep one more night in Parga. Kali nichta, dear moms! Your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 29, 2013, 8:33 pm |
Dear mommy's,
Here's where we're going! |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 29, 2013, 8:35 pm |
After a long cartrip we arrive in Vassiliki. We didn't need to take a ferryboat. Lefkas is an island, but it is attached to the mainland by a bridge.
Here we are at our apartment. We don't have a swimmingpool anymore, but the sea is nearby. |
||
Emjay Posted Sep 29, 2013, 8:37 pm |
Our last days in Greece we spend relaxing and sunbathing at the beach
Emjay Posted Sep 29, 2013, 8:38 pm |
Remember how we started this adventure? Drinking coffee at Schiphol Airport.
Emjay Posted Sep 29, 2013, 8:41 pm |
And now we end our adventure by drinking frappé (iced coffee) in Vassiliki! Tomorrow we fly very early, so this is my last update from Greece. We had a wonderful time here!
Bye, dear mommy's! your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 1, 2013, 9:45 am |
Hi mommy's!
A digital postcard to you, as a souvenir from my time in Greece. |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 9, 2013, 10:48 am |
Hi mommy's!
We're back home. It's a lovely autum day, but also a little sad, because Emil is leaving. He will go to his next host in Denmark today. We are together in the garden to give a farewell party in Emil's honor. And we have a few sweets left from Greece. |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 9, 2013, 10:50 am |
Keiko comes to say farewell too!
Emjay Posted Oct 9, 2013, 10:51 am |
We enjoy our last moments together and give Emil a big hug.
Emjay Posted Oct 9, 2013, 10:52 am |
It's time for Emil to get in his envelope. Bye, bye, dear friend! We'll miss you!
|
||
Emjay Posted Oct 11, 2013, 12:51 pm |
Hi mommy's!
I almost forgot to tell you: I've been to Rotterdam a couple of days ago. It was a cloudy day, so a few pictures are a bit dark. It was fun visiting this big town. There's a lot of modern architecture. |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 11, 2013, 12:52 pm |
Uh-oh, someone told a little lie
Emjay Posted Oct 11, 2013, 12:55 pm |
Aren't they cute? | ||
Emjay Posted Oct 11, 2013, 12:56 pm |
This shopping area is called "Buy Gutter". Hm, strange name!
Emjay Posted Oct 11, 2013, 12:58 pm |
The sky is really dark, but it stayed dry. Later on the sky was clear again.
Bye mommy's! Big kiss from your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 11, 2013, 1:00 pm |
Now there are four TV's left. But Emjay told us there are two TV's coming soon. That will be fun!
Emjay Posted Oct 12, 2013, 10:41 am |
Dear mommy's!
Today we met a new ToyVoyager. His name is Poschti. He came from Germany to stay with us. We were all there to greet him. |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 12, 2013, 10:42 am |
Hi Poschti! Nice to meet you!
Now we are five again! Bye for now, mommy's. Love, Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 15, 2013, 1:01 pm |
Dear mommy's!
Today we got a package. Is it another TV? No, it was a surprise from Cuty! He was staying in Finland with Eohippus and is on his way to Paris now. This was in the package: a lollipop, a hanger, a fridge magnet and Finnish liquorice. Emjay ate the lollipop, which tasted like pear, and we ate the liquorice. It was very salty, but nice! Dutchy thought he looked just like the hanger! Thanks a lot, dear Cuty! Have a great time in Paris! We had a cozy afternoon. Outside it was raining, but inside we had fun! Bye, bye, dear mommy's! your Cherry Lola xxx |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 19, 2013, 10:15 am |
Dear mommy's!
We visited a lovely lady, who is originally from France. She is Emjay's mother-in-law. We met her teddybears and some of her dolls. |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 19, 2013, 10:16 am |
If you're afraid of spiders, don't look now!
Emjay Posted Oct 19, 2013, 10:18 am |
The mist had left tiny drops on all cobwebs in Emjay's garden. There were a lot of them!
Bye, mommy's! Greetings from me and my friends, your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 25, 2013, 10:10 am |
Hi mommy's!
It's me again! It was a warm day today and we went for a walk to the city center. On the way we stopped at this beautiful building. It used to be the gunpowder house, but now it's the home of a scouting group. |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 25, 2013, 10:12 am |
Oh, yammy! So many cheeses! I have to taste a real Dutch cheese before I leave! It's one of my life missions, as you know. I'm sure I'll get the oppurtunity.
Emjay Posted Oct 25, 2013, 10:13 am |
Do you know this girl? It's the famous Girl with the Pearl Earring by Vermeer. But this is another version, painted in Delft blue.
Emjay Posted Oct 25, 2013, 10:15 am |
Here we are in front of the oldest house in Delft.
Emjay Posted Oct 25, 2013, 10:17 am |
This used to be the cattle market, where cows, pigs and sheep were sold. But nowadays the square is surrounded by restaurants and pubs. On a sunny day (and even it's not that sunny) you can sit and relax here at one of the terraces.
This statue of a colourful cow is a reminder of the cattle market. |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 25, 2013, 11:13 am |
Oh dear, Dutchy is leaving today. It's always difficult to say goodbye, but I know Dutchy will have a great time in Germany with Olgamaus!
Bye, bye, dear friend! I won't forget you! Bye to you too, dear mommy's! love, Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 30, 2013, 2:47 pm |
Dear mommy's,
It's another emotional day: Orkku Orava is leaving us. She has been a good friend to us all. But she became restless and she had the urge to travel. So today she's going to Germany. She packs up her souvenirs and than it's hugging time! |
||
Emjay Posted Oct 30, 2013, 2:47 pm |
Good luck, dear Orkku! | ||
Emjay Posted Oct 30, 2013, 2:52 pm |
Emjay had a good idea to cheer us up: bake a Halloween cake! Halloween is not celebrated in the Netherlands. Well, only by a small group of children, but it's not a big occassion. In Halloween style it will be a pumpkin cake. This are all the ingredients.
Emjay Posted Oct 30, 2013, 2:53 pm |
Phew! Slicing a pumpkin is hard work!
Emjay Posted Oct 30, 2013, 2:54 pm |
Crushing cookies for the bottom of the cake.
Emjay Posted Oct 30, 2013, 2:54 pm |
The bottom looks smooth!
Emjay Posted Oct 30, 2013, 2:55 pm |
The right amount of caster sugar.
Emjay Posted Oct 30, 2013, 2:56 pm |
Whisk, whisk, whisking away!
Emjay Posted Oct 30, 2013, 2:59 pm |
Well, this is the result! But... it looks a bit boring.
Emjay Posted Oct 30, 2013, 3:00 pm |
That's better!
Bye, bye, mommy's! your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 5, 2013, 1:25 pm |
One day later we all enjoyed a yummy piece of pie!
Emjay Posted Nov 5, 2013, 1:32 pm |
Dear angel-mommy,
It's been over a year since you passed away and today I'm having a little ceremony to remember you. I still miss you very much. You gave me the oppurtunity to discover the world and so far I've been to Canada, Germany, Greece and the Netherlands. Wherever I go, I always carry you with me in my mind and my heart. Today I lit a candle for you at the Maria van Jesse church. There is a lovely statue of a smiling Madonna and that reminded me of you! I remember you with a smile, dear mommy Kate. Love, as always, your striped zebra Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 5, 2013, 1:36 pm |
Dear mommy's,
Emjay took me to see another part of Delft. It's a special kind of neighbourhood, with small houses at a canal. You have to cross a tiny bridge to get there! But before we got there, we passed a shipyard. And some purple berries attracted my attention too! |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 5, 2013, 1:37 pm |
A lot of people who live here, own a little boat.
Emjay Posted Nov 5, 2013, 1:39 pm |
Some impressions of this lovely neighbourhood. It's a pitty the sun didn't shine.
Emjay Posted Nov 5, 2013, 1:44 pm |
We walked along the railway viaduct. In a few years time the railway will go underground. In the mainstreet that runs besides the railway I spotted this charming tower. I would love to live there, as a kind of Rapunzel!
Emjay Posted Nov 5, 2013, 1:49 pm |
And now I see my first Dutch windmill! It's the only mill in Delft and it's called "The Rose". Last year the mill was lifted off the ground and moved a few meters down the street, because of the building of the new railwaytunnel. It was on the news. Just click this link: http://nos.nl/video/391337-oude-molen-delft-gaat-de-lucht-in.html
Emjay Posted Nov 5, 2013, 1:49 pm |
A nice mural painting. | ||
Emjay Posted Nov 5, 2013, 1:50 pm |
Some historic buildings.
Emjay Posted Nov 5, 2013, 1:52 pm |
This is where Emjay was going: the Delft archive. She wanted to look something up in an old newspaper.
That's my update for today! Bye, bye, mommy's, your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 10, 2013, 12:42 pm |
Hi mommy's!
I've met a new friend. His name is Humphrey and he's a bunny. He wants to be a TV, so we tell him all about it. |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 15, 2013, 1:20 pm |
Dear mommy's!
What a lovely day it was today! Emjay had to bring a friend to fysiotherapy in The Hague. And guess what! The practise was five minutes drive from the beach! So Emjay took us to the beach of Kijkduin and we really enjoyed the Sunshine. |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 15, 2013, 1:22 pm |
What is this building? It seems to be a watchtower, but it's not very high! Oh well, we have a nice view anyway!
Emjay Posted Nov 15, 2013, 1:23 pm |
I still have to buy a Dutch cheese before I leave! Maybe next time...
Bye, mommy's! your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 18, 2013, 6:49 pm |
Hi mommy's!
What an exciting day! St. Nikolas has arrived with all his helpers! In case you don't know what I'm talking about: let me explain. In The Netherlands Santa Claus doesn't come with presents But... St. Nikolas does! He comes a bit earlier, though. His birthday is on December 6, but the day before he gives presents to kids and adults, aswell! What a lovely guy! He has a lot of helpers, called "Piet" (pronounced as "Pete"). They all have their own speciality. So you have "Cool Pete", "Music Pete", "Clever Pete" and so on. Today St. Nikolas and the Petes arrived by boat. All kids are allowed to put their shoes in front of the fireplace and St. Nikolas puts a little gift in it. But Emjay doesn't have a fireplace. So we place our shoes in front of the central heating! |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 18, 2013, 6:58 pm |
Poschti doesn't wear shoes, off course. He wears tires! But he could borrow a shoe from a Barbiedoll!
So we sat together and sang a St. Nikolas song. It goes like this: Sinterklaas Kapoentje Gooi wat in m'n schoentje Gooi wat in m'n laarsje Dank u, Sinterklaasje! It means something like: St. Nikolas Kapoe Put something in my shoe Put something in my boot St. Nikolas, you are good! |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 18, 2013, 7:01 pm |
Next day we looked in our shoes quickly, but what a disappointment! There was nothing in it!
But what's that little bag with the pictures of St. Nikolas and Pete? |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 18, 2013, 7:02 pm |
Poschti dived into it.
Oh look, here are our presents! |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 18, 2013, 7:07 pm |
Humphrey had a chocolate H, Poschti had a chocolate Pete, Suomi-Girl had a chocolate St. Nikolas and I had a chocolate C! Yummy!
Dutch children are alowed to put their shoes each week, until it's December 5. And on that day it's a BIG celebration with sweets and lots of presents! So now you know a bit about "Sinterklaas". Bye, bye, mommy's! your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 21, 2013, 8:32 am |
Hi mommy's!
Guess where I am! |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 21, 2013, 8:33 am |
Yes, that's right: I'm in the cheesiest town of The Netherlands! Gouda is also known for the production of clay pipes and of candles.
Emjay Posted Nov 21, 2013, 8:36 am |
Unfortunately it's wet and cold. We do a very quick sightseeing tour. This is the townhall. Looks a little bit like the townhall of Delft.
Emjay Posted Nov 21, 2013, 8:37 am |
The other day I told you about St. Niklas. This is his Goody Bag!
Emjay Posted Nov 21, 2013, 8:37 am |
The St. Jans Church. | ||
Emjay Posted Nov 21, 2013, 8:38 am |
Some houses near the Gouda Museum.
Emjay Posted Nov 21, 2013, 8:39 am |
Inside the Cheese Museum.
Emjay Posted Nov 21, 2013, 8:40 am |
And now... I'm inside the town hall! Not everybody is allowed in, but off course a TV gets special permission!
Emjay Posted Nov 21, 2013, 8:41 am |
Ding, ding, ding! Dinner's served!
Emjay Posted Nov 21, 2013, 8:42 am |
This is the attic of the town hall. You can feel the rich history!
Well, that's it for today! Bye mommy's! as always, your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 23, 2013, 1:53 pm |
Off course I bought a nice Gouda cheese. It's a real one, you can see by the stamp on it. And the green stuff is nettle! Wow, I would love to taste it! But not yet!
Emjay Posted Nov 23, 2013, 1:56 pm |
Dear mommy's,
Today we went to Kijkduin again. It was a cold, but sunny and dry day. We discovered a ship. Maybe it is shipwrecked? |
||
Emjay Posted Nov 23, 2013, 1:57 pm |
Here we are at the beach.
Emjay Posted Nov 23, 2013, 1:59 pm |
This tile in the "Walk of Love" could by a tile for you, mommy Kate!
That's it for today, mommy's! I love you! Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Dec 1, 2013, 10:15 pm |
Dear mommy's!
Nothing much has happened the last week, but now I have exciting news! We have a new friend! His name is Hemming. |
||
Emjay Posted Dec 1, 2013, 10:16 pm |
I had saved my Gouda cheese for a special occassion and I thought this was special enough!
Emjay Posted Dec 1, 2013, 10:18 pm |
The next day we brought Hemming breakfast in bed. I'm sure we will have fun with him!
Bye mommy's! your Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Dec 4, 2013, 10:01 am |
Hi dear mommy's!
Here I am with all my friends. In front you can see Rudolph. He will be released in the wild, as part of the big Christmas ToyVoyager Release! |
||
Emjay Posted Dec 4, 2013, 10:02 am |
In the evening there was a knock at the door. We thought it was "Sinterklaas", but it was the postman. He delivered a little package. Is it a new TV?
Emjay Posted Dec 4, 2013, 10:04 am |
It is Dille, Emjay's TV. She's back from her trip to San Diego. Welcome home, Dille! Nice to meet you!
Emjay Posted Dec 4, 2013, 10:08 am |
Dille quickly changed in some warmer clothes. We decided to make a cheese cake for her and she lend us a hand.
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 12:15 pm |
Hi mommy's!
Tonight is the night! It's the celebration of Sinterklaas! There's a big basket with presents at the table and a bowl of treets called "kruidnootjes" (that means "spicenuts") Suomi-Girl is the first to pick out a present. Oh, it's for me! How exciting! |
||
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 12:17 pm |
Ah... it's an angel as a symbol for my dear angel-mommy Kate! How lovely!
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 12:18 pm |
Now it's my turn to pick out a present and it's for... Hemming!
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 12:20 pm |
Hemming got a travel sleepingbag. All of us got four presents. At the end of the evening we were all tired and our belly's were full of "kruidnootjes". Oof!
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 12:23 pm |
Look, mommy's, these are my presents: an angel for the Christmastree, a tin of Cola, a dvd of the province of Zuid-Holland and a little bag filled with lavender from Emjay's garden. I'm very happy with them!
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 12:26 pm |
As a ToyVoyager I know that to every trip there's an ending. Today I'm leaving Delft and I will go to my next destination: Switzerland! That's exiciting! But I will miss my friends! It's difficult to say goodbye...
Anyway, let's have some cheesecake first! |
||
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 12:27 pm |
Poschti is leaving today too. We take a last breath of fresh air, before we get into our envelopes.
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 12:28 pm |
Emjay has made a little ponytail in my tail as a farewell present
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 12:31 pm |

Hi mommys
after a short and pleasant journey I arrived in Switzerland. Host dad picked me up from the post office because Jasper was at work. My travel box was opened and expectant faces looking at me. I smiled and said pleasantly hello. But these curious fellows rushed into my box to see what I've brought everything. They had a lot to do. My lovely former host gave me many gifts along the way. After a warm welcome - they remembered nevertheless still in their good behavior - I told them the specifics of my souvenirs. Everyone was very impressed, especially by the little angel. He will get pride of place on the Christmas tree. I think I'll have here a lot of fun - but there is a question: Who is Paul? Bye for now Cherry Lola |
||
Emjay Posted Dec 14, 2013, 1:19 pm |
Hello dear Cherry Lola and friends!
I'm glad you arrived safely! I had to smile at your question: who is Paul? Have you forgotten your hostdad already, Cherry Lola? I'm just kidding. I know your FRIENDS asked the question, not YOU. You were just being mysterious The wrapping paper was left over from Sinterklaas celebration and I forgot to take the name sticker off! So now the mystery is cleared up! Well, dear Cherry, have fun! Love, your former hostmum (and hostdad PAUL) & Suomi-Girl, Hemming, Humprey and Rudolph |

Hello mommys
A new guest has arrived today. It is Laika, a cute little dog. We gave her a warm welcome and hugged and cuddled her. She brought a beautiful Christmas card. Thank you very much Rike! We still had a lot to talk while enjoying the last rays of sun. Kisses and see you soon your Cherry Lola |

Hi moms,
Despite all good intentions Jasper is stressed. So much to do at work. Some employees already have a vacation and another has her leg broken because of the black ice in the last days. That's why I looked around a bit by myself. I discovered some interesting things. Love you Cherry Lola |

Hi mommys,
our calendar told us, today is Christmas Eve. Jasper has bought us a small tree that we decorated. The fairy lights gave us a bit of effort, but together we have made it. With the red balls and golden ribbons it looks beautiful. Pride of place was the little angel. In memory of my mom Kate. And now we wait impatiently for what is to come. First we will eat delicious - with Jasper's dad and her brother - who come to visit. And then we hope to have many gifts. All my loved ones at home - I wish you a wonderful, peaceful Christmas. Big hugs and a thousand kisses Cherry Lola |

This morning we opened our gifts. I got a little red heart. It is so beautiful. Now two hearts beat for you. Hope you also got a wonderful gift. With lots of love Cherry Lola |

Happy New year!
the last days of the old year were not so funny. Host dad had a few days to the hospital to re-adjust his diabetes. Even our trip to St. Moritz has been deleted. Here it was raining, but in the mountains was so much snow that the rail lines were closed due to avalanche danger. Pity but perhaps arises later an opportunity to go there. I would like to play in the snow, unfortunately, it is at the moment far too warm. Yesterday I was looking forward on dinner. Jaspers family eats traditional cheese fondue on New Years Eve. Yummy! We all helped with the preparation. I cut the bread into small pieces. I had to look that every piece has a crust. The piece of bread then holds better on the fondue fork. If you lose it during stirring in the cheese, you have to drink a brandy. We have peeled and pressed garlic and added to cheese. And then we had to stir, stir, stir until the cheese was melted. In between, we have set the table. And then we enjoyed a creamy , seductive fragrant fondue and a glass of white wine. Unfortunately the rain prevented the fireworks. Nevertheless we had a lovely evening. All the best for the new year - love you Cherry Lola |

Hi mommys,
Today we made a trip to Lucerne. Lucerne is a city in north-central Switzerland, in the German-speaking portion of that country. Lucerne is the capital of the Canton of Lucerne and the capital of the district of the same name. With a population of about 76,200 people, Lucerne is the most populous city in Central Switzerland, and a nexus of transportation, telecommunications, and government of this region. Due to its location on the shore of Lake Lucerne (der Vierwaldstättersee), within sight of Mount Pilatus and Rigi in the Swiss Alps, Lucerne has long been a destination for tourists. Early in the morning we boarded the train and two hours later we reached Lucerne. On the way we even saw a bit of snow - a rarity in this winter. Arriving in Lucerne we strengthened ourselves first with croissant and cappuccino and studied the map . Then we started our tour. The first thing we saw was the famous Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge) and Wasserturm (Water Tower). Bridge: constructed in the first half of the 14th century as a part of the city fortifications. Named after nearby St.Peters chapel. Watertower: this octagonal over 34 meters high(111.5 ft.) tower was built ca. 1300 as a part of the city wall. Used as archives, treasury, prison and torture chamber. Lucerne's trademark and the most photographed monument in Switzerland. Along the river Reuss we walked further and saw gulls and swans that were fighting over bread. Beautiful houses lined our way to Nadelwehr ( Needle Dam) . Built in 1859/1860 following the clever style developed by Poiree, the Needle Dam is a unique attraction in terms of both technology and history. From 2009-2011 the facility was renovated and the city's flood protaction was improved. Even today, the level of Lake Lucerne is regulated by hand through the removal and placement of the so-called needles (wooden posts). This is the Franziskanerkirche (Franciscan church) The next attraction was the Spreuerbrücke (Mill Bridge) . The bridge was completed in 1408 as a part of the city fortification. Between 1626 and 1635 Kaspar Mellinger added 67 paintings that represent the "Dance of Death". Called the Spreuerbrücke because chaffs of weat were thrown in the river. Then we had to climb stairs - many many stairs took us to Museggmauer . Museggmauer (Musegg wall): part of the rampart walls built in 1386. Wall almost entirely intact. 8 towers still standing, three are open to the public - Schirmer, Zyt and Männli. The oldest city clock, built by Hans Luter in 1535 is on Zyt tower. This clock is privileged to chime every hour one minute before all the other clocks in the city. From here you have a wonderful view over the whole city and the lake in good weather. As you can see we did not have great weather, foggy and cold it was . Lots of stairs later we admired beautifully painted houses that border the old city scenic places . Goethe was here. On the opposite shore we saw the Jesuit Church . Then we treated ourselves to a lunch break . The next building, which we admired, was the Town Hall (from the back, we will see even from the front). It was built between 1602 and 1606 by Anton Isenmann in Italian Renaissance style with a Bern farmhouse roof for weather purposes. The open arcades facing the Reuss still serve today as a weekly marketplace. The Fritschi restaurant on the Sternenplatz, painted with carnival motifs. The Fritschi is a famous Lucerne carnival figure. And - Luzern + Fasnacht: a madhouse. Then we reached the lake. In good weather you can see from here the Alps with the local mountains Pilatus and Rigi. We strolled a bit along the bank and then went to the Hofkirche (Hofchurch). Main cathedral for the city population and religious centre St.Leodegar and Mauritius. Benedectine Monastery founded here in the 8th century. Fire destroyed church in 1633. Rebuilt 1645. Is the most important Renaissance church building in Switzerland. Jasper and I lit a candle for Mom Kate. Next, we visited the Löwendenkmal (Lion Monument). "The dying Lion of Lucerne" is one of the world's most famous monuments. It was hewn out of natural rock in memory of the heroic death of the Swiss mercenaries at the Tuilleries in 1792. Globetrotter Mark Twain described the Lion of Lucern as " the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world". Once again a short distance along the lake (it was still foggy and cold), passing this funny house, and we reached the Kapellbrücke again. We crossed the bridge and saw this time the town hall from the front. This is the Seebrücke (Seabridge). Under it, the Reuss flows into the Lake Lucerne. On passing Culture and Congress Centre, we reached the station. We said goodbye to Lucerne and were on our way home. Tired, but happy and enriched by many impressions we fell into bed. I hope you like my pictures from Lucerne. Kisses Cherry Lola |

Hello mommys
this morning I suddenly had craving for cheese. Because Jasper had a lot to do with the laundry, I served myself. Yummy, I found authentic Emmental and Gruyere cheese. It smelled fantastic. With a special knife I stabbed a little of the Gruyère. So good. Even the Emmentaler cheese I had to try - cheesy greetings Cherry Lola |

Hi ,
Sunday morning , and again we had to get up early. This time led us our trip to Ticino - the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. To get to the Ticino , we took the train through the Gotthard tunnel. The railway tunnel is 15003 meters long and consists of a single , twin-track tube. Construction began in the fall of 1872. The puncture was made on 29 February 1880 and on 22 May 1882 the tunnel was inaugurated. On the north side was not much snow but when we left the tunnel , we saw amounts of snow. Crazy winter. Place names such as : Airolo, Quinto , Faido , Biasca and Osogna made us curious. And then we got out - in Bellinzona , the capital of the canton of Ticino. The city is famous for its three castles ( Castel Grande , Montebello, Sasso Corbaro ) that have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2000. From the station square we made our way into the old town. We reached the Piazza Collegiata and admired the great church of San Collegiata. Passing beautiful homes and the Palazzo Civico (City Hall), we reached the stairs that led us to the Castel Grande. A wonderful view. The castle is located on a mighty rock ridge above the old town. We strolled through the huge castle and expected every moment knights and dragons. We climbed the Murata (city walls), which also belongs to the Unesco World Heritage site. It seems as if one can traverse half Bellinzona on the Murata , as long it is. We took the Salita Castel Grande to return to the city. On our way we saw the Federal Criminal Court. A few alleys further we came to probably the oldest church in Bellinzona - San Biagio. The facade is decorated with an image of St. Christopher. The lunch we had earned. After this break we were on our way to the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. It is one of the most valuable Churches in Ticino and emerged at the end of the 15th Century. This richly frescoed building was severely damaged in a fire on January 1, 1996 and had to be carefully restored. Unfortunately we could not visit the interior, the church was closed. Little surprised we went on and came to the Piazza Indipendenza ( Independence Square ) with the obelisk. From there we climbed hundreds of stairs - they carry the picturesque name Salita al Castello di Montebello - the second castle. Pretty exhausted and breathless we read the World Heritage Panel and then explored the castle. Our effort was rewarded with a splendid view. I could even see the Lago Maggiore. We explored the old well and marveled at the drawbridge. The third castle we saw only from afar. No more stairs. Tired but happy we were on our way home. You can imagine that we all slept well. That's it for today, see you soon. Love you Cherry Lola |

Hi mommys,
Hanne is back from her vacation in Florida. She was allowed to accompany Jasper's daughter on her honeymoon. I was a bit jealous, but Hanne brought us gifts and a new friend - Mani, the Manatee. With all the delicacies we celebrated a welcome back party. Hugs Cherry Lola |

Hi mommys,
Today, we sat together, listening Hannes vacation experiences and nibbled the last biscuits. Something was strange. We felt observed. Suddenly we heard a fluttering and a small bat landed in the biscuit pot. Stoker called the little Batman and is our new guest. We welcomed him warmly in Switzerland and shared our biscuits with him. He's so funny - I like him. Yours Cherry Lola |

Hi moms,
been a few days since I reported the last time. Jasper was very busy - a presentation for a textile fair had to be prepared. But today was time. We wanted a walk in the snow - so we had to take the car first. Here is no snow - lousy winter. Jasper is frustrated. She loves winter. So we went to Alt St. Johann and walked a while along the Thur. The Thur is here still small and in the winter the cross country ski trail runs along the shore. We watched a bit of cross-country skiers - they were not very fast. On an old stone wall we rested a bit. It was warm - 15 degrees. Then we had to decide - we take what way? Not so easy. We walked straight on and came to the valley station of the Iltiosbahn. This funicular takes you to 1339 meters above sea level. On our way we saw this sign. Did I tell you that Simon Ammann grew up in Alt St. Johann ? Oh, a campsite which is also used in winter. This glass tent is an apres ski bar. Unfortunately, she was not yet open. So we were on our way home. Tonight we look at ski jumping on television. Let's see who wins. That's it for today. Bye, bye Cherry Lola |

Hi mommys,
once again bad weather. It's exasperating. Jasper made us "good mood muffins" and after a few bottles of Sour Apple, we had to laugh a lot. On weekend, we make another trip - the weather prospects are good. The destination is a secret. We only know the city name starts with "M". We all are soooo curious. Hugs Cherry Lola |

Saluti a tutti di famiglia
you wonder why I speak Italian? Jasper promised us for this weekend a trip to a city that starts with " M". We started early and ended up in - Milano (Milan) From the station we walked to the Castello di Sforzaresco. The Castello is home to the largest museum complex in Milan with nine museums and art galleries. Michelangelo's last sculpture - the Pieta Rondanini, and Leonardo da Vinci's " Codex Trivulzianus " a collection of valuable manuscripts are exhibited here. Unfortunately photograph is strictly prohibited. So we went on and came to the Arco della Pace - a triumphal arch in Piazza Sempione. He should remember the European peace of 1815. A few streets away, we saw the "new Milan". On the old Fairgrounds - Fiera Milano City - built diligently. The new district will be called "CityLife Milano". On our way we saw this posh house entrance. It belongs to the "Casa di riposo by musici" a retirement home for musicians. It was founded by Giuseppe Verdi who lived here and is buried here. Directly in front of the house is his monument. The Piazza Piemonte and the Theatro Nazional. By typical Milanese streets we came to the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and on one of these walls - we do not know which - painted Leonardo da Vinci his famous painting "The Last Supper". And again, we were not lucky to photograph a famous work of art. We were not even near him. Because of the large number of visitors tickets are limited. And yes, you're right - they were sold out. No exception, not even for ToyVoyager. A bit grumpy we looked at the building from the outside and found in a small tranquil courtyard our good mood again. We went on and came to the Palazzo Litta, a magnificent palace which is now used by the railway administration. We passed a small memorial service for the victims in Ukraine, and held in for a moment. A magnificent monument - I do not remember for whom. A work of art. Then we reached the famous Opera House - the Scala. I had somehow imagined more glorious. This is the statue of Leonardo da Vinci in Piazza Scala. The entrance to the magnificent shopping mall "Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II" All well-known brands can be found in this cross-shaped passage. When we left the Galleria, an imposing sight showed us. The Cathedral of Milan. Huge (in terms of area, the third largest church in the world) and beautiful he is on the Piazza del Duomo. We were not the only ones who enjoyed this wonderful day here. Amo Milano e ti amo mamma. Ciao ea presto. I love Milan and I love you mama. Bye and see you soon. Cherry Lola |

Hello,
Sunday and wonderful weather, nothing keeps us indoors. We went to Rapperswil, a small town on Lake Zurich. There we visited the first thing the castle. From the Schlossplatz you have a beautiful view over the old town and a part of the lake. The castle is very impressive and is home to the Polish Museum. In the tower we admired old family coat of arms. This is the parish church next to the castle. On a walk through the city and along the lake we enjoyed the sun, just like many others. We also found a clown statue. The town of Rapperswil is closely linked with the Swiss National Circus "Knie". The circus has its winter here quarters and leads the zoo. I spent an enjoyable afternoon and now I'm going to bed. Bye for now Cherry Lola |

Hello home,
Today, we welcomed a new TV. His name is Nuru he is from Madrid and he is a camel. No, I do not scoff - he really is a camel, a very nice camel. He brought a beautiful card, fridge magnet for Jasper and his stamp collection. Imagine - he has a passport. We were very impressed. Then we played hide and seek between Jasper's herb pots. It was fun - and how we smell;-)) Keep your fingers crossed that the weather is nice tomorrow. Then we take a walk to our little river. Enjoy your end of work. Cherry Lola |

Hi mommys,
the weather was wonderful and so we took a walk to a small river called Thur. On our way we saw really old apple trees and an apiary. We approached very carefully - nobody wanted to be stung. Some flowers were seen. Here is our romantic river Thur. ( Thur is a 131 km (81 mi ) long river in north- eastern Switzerland. Its source is near the mountain Santis , in the south -east of the canton of St. Gallen. It flows into the river Rhine on the border with Germany south of Schaffhausen. ) We found a "TV waterfall " and frog spawn. Looks like some frogs. Oh, oh looks like many, many frogs. Time to enjoy the sun. Even more harbingers of spring. A perfect place to think. On our way we found many beautiful places. Then I climbed a rock - or a root ? I think both is correct. This tree holds on with its roots on the rock. The flood of recent years has swept the earth. A short rest on soft moss. Jasper shared her apple us. We found wild garlic in abundance. It's so beautiful here. Many, many greetings Cherry Lola |

Hello moms,
Today we visited a special place - Quinten. The 56 inhabitants (2004) large village of Quinten on the north shore of Lake Walen is only accessible on foot or by boat . As a car-free village Quinten is a popular intermediate and end points for hikes. Quinten has due to its unique location on the sunny side of Lake Walen and at the foot of the Churfirsten a Mediterranean climate with an annual average temperature of about 12.0 ° C , where grapes, figs, kiwi fruit and other exotic plants thrive. Also, various types of palm trees grow here. It is one of the warmest places in Switzerland. In addition, many protected reptiles such as lizards , fence lizards, smooth snakes , grass snakes and Aesculapian live in this ideal habitat for the animals . We took the car to Murg and then by ship to Quinten. The view was breathtaking. We strolled through the small village and walked along the lake. We enjoyed the sun, nature and our lives. By boat we were on our way home. What a glorious day. Sunny greetings Cherry Lola |

Hi to all at home,
because Jasper had a lot to do at work, host brother made a few things with us. 1 Project: make Spring rolls. Host Brother prepared the filling. He did not want any problems with Jasper when we cut ourselves in the paws, hooves or wings. Then he showed us how to shape the spring rolls. Not so easy but I think I have a certain talent for it. We were all proud of our work and were looking forward to the meal. And then the disaster - during frying the dough disappeared. Why? no idea. Only the filling remained. But this was delicious. We will try it again. Cherry Lola |

It's Easter and it's snowing. No chance to look for Easter eggs outdoors. So we had a small - but fine Easter Parade indoors. Led by a funny sheep marched the tastiest things past us. First, we looked and then we grabbed. Despite the weather we had our fun and enjoyed the treats. I hope you have also enjoyed Easter and kiss you Cherry Lola |

Hi mommys
yesterday we took a hike along the Thur. We wanted to see what happened to the frog spawn and what else has changed since our last trip. So Jasper filled the backpack and we went into the sun. The grass is grown and the old apple trees are in bloom. Also, the forest is green slowly. Dandelion Small tadpoles were removed from the frog spawn. A little break in the middle of dandelion We walked on and came to the rock wall - the frost and the water they gnaw slowly. The bridge of the bypass road. Our path was narrow, steep and sometimes a bit dangerous. The large leaves on the riverbank invited to sunbathe. We crossed a small creek and sat down to picnic. Bread, cheese and sausage were delicious. As we walked Jasper suddenly saw something very special. A Tree - gnawed of beavers. The Beavers are here - great! Because it's still snowing in the mountains, the Thur does not have much water at the moment. This is Jasper's favorite place - the view from the bridge into the gorge. Looks very romantic. Another narrow, steep path led us - at a rock wall? No - into a tight dark passage - and then we saw the waterfall. Isn't this a beautiful sight? There we had to climb through. The waterfall. On the riverfront. These bundles in the trees - this is grass. Remains of the last flood. Isn't it beautiful here? We had a wonderful day Love you mommys Cherry Lola |

Hi mommys,
after endless rain we had no desire to sit at home. Therefore, we took the train and went to Jasper's daughter in Thun. Thun is called the gateway to the Bernese Oberland. It is located where the River Aare flows out of Lake Thun (Thunersee), 30 km south of Bern. Besides tourism, machine and precision instrument engineering, the largest garrison in the country, the food industry and publishing are of economic importance to Thun. This bridge is a weir. It regulates the water level of the river Aare, which flows through the city. "750 years municipal law" on this occasion are all over the city works of art - also in the river. Behind me you see the castle. Here you see the machinery of the weir. A View from the Bridge. A nice old house and stormy weather. Then we walked along the lake to the hotel. Jasper's son in law had provided us a nightcap. We slept very well. Until tomorrow Cherry Lola |

Hello again,
after getting up our first look was the weather. Oh well. Incidentally, this is the hotel of Jasper's daughter and son in law. In good weather you have a fantastic view of Lake Thun and the Bernese Alps. After breakfast we took a walk by the lake. This ship is one of the many excursion steamer. We walked on, and came to this small chapel. It is very popular with wedding couples. You have to book in advance at least one year. This castle houses the Museum of Gastronomy. A view over the lake. Ferns in the park. Then it was time to go home. Bye for today - love you. Cherry Lola |

Hello,
when we came home in the evening, an envelope lying on the table. Jasper opened it and we - not a bit curious - dipped immediately our noses. A moose. Stoker knows him - it's Soeren from Germany. We got a stormy welcome and greeted him warmly as well. Then he took out his gifts. Gummy bears for us and a postcard for Jasper ;-)) What a lovely surprise after a nice weekend (the gummy bears and Soeren - of course) best wishes Cherry Lola |

Dear mommys,
Monday, sunshine and Jasper has to work. But not today! Sometimes overtime is very useful ;-)) Opened the big pocket, wrapped all TV's and camera - and off we went. Jasper wanted to show us the Thur Waterfalls ( Thurwasserfälle ). Small - but fine. The Thur waterfalls are two cascades .The water cascades down from steep rock faces, and on highest point drops from 23 meters (75 ft) A short drive by car and right into flowering meadows. Here the Thur is still very small. And it is getting smaller. We hiked into a small ravine. First, we wanted to see everything from above. This is the big fall. And closer to the water! About stairways and corridors in the rock we climbed up and down again. ( Sorry - it was too dark to photograph ) Bridges, walkways and narrow paths took us deeper into the canyon. This is the small fall. Our way back. We rested on a bench, and rejoiced in the sun. The Santis is still deep in snow. We enjoyed this afternoon to the fullest. Cherry Lola |

Hello,
on Sunday we made a trip to Wil, a small town nearby. We strolled in beautiful weather through the narrow streets and admiring the beautiful old houses. This is the portal of the St. Nicholas Church. This is the "Hof zu Wil", the landmark of the city. For over 500 years, the St. Gallen prince abbots resided in "Hof zu Wil". By the old city gate we came to the " Weiherwiese ". There was the "Spectacle", a medieval festival. First we smelled specialties - no time to eat, there was so much to see. Archers. Knights on horseback. The noble Lord of Lichtenfels was the winner. Then we watched how knights and "ordinary people" were living. A nice view of the old town of Wil. We could not decide : which sight is more beautiful. The lady who sells ocarinas - or? On the way home we had a magnificent view of the Churfirsten - our local mountains. Home surprised us Jasper with souvenirs she bought in secret. Small leather bag for our treasures. We had a wonderful weekend - I hope you also. with love Cherry Lola |

Hello moms,
yesterday was Soeren's birthday and we gave him a surprise party. When he woke up I blindfolded him. I grabbed him into shopping cart and drove him to the other. He was placed in a chair and Stoker took off the blindfold. All hugged him and wished "HAPPY BIRTHDAY". He got the gift. Then there was cake. We had so much fun. Later, Jasper donated something to drink. The fun was still larger, we slightly louder. Stoker was dancing on the table and Twixx tipped off the chair. We had a great party. We all sang songs - terribly noisy and terribly wrong. What a day. Love you moms Cherry Lola |

Hi Moms
guess where I am. On Lake Geneva in: We walked along the waterfront and discovered the statue of Freddy Mercury, the great singer of the rock band Queen. The group Queen worked for many years in Montreux and owned since 1979 the Montreux Mountain Recording Studio, which was housed in the newly established casino since 1975. The casino fire on December 4, 1971 inspired the group Deep Purple to her worldwide hit "Smoke on the Water". "No matter what we get out of this, I know we will never forget. Smoke on the water, fire in the sky. " This tells the story of the casino fire, when during a concert by Frank Zappa the casino completely burned down. Here you can see one of the major hotels. Many famous people were guests here. Tchaikovsky, Tolstoi and Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sissi) On the other side of the lake is France. A little rest. A war memorial. This is the monument of Sissi. Another hotel with a fountain in the park. We walked further along the lake and saw in the distance the Castle of Chillon. Chillon is listed as "Switzerland's most visited historic monument" and of course we had to visit it. An imposing building with many impressive rooms. It was made popular by Lord Byron, who wrote the poem The Prisoner Of Chillon (1816) about François de Bonivard, a Genevois monk and politician who was imprisoned there from 1530 to 1536; Byron also carved his name on a pillar of the dungeon. From the tower we had a beautiful view. Then we walked back to Montreux, saw a church and statues of famous musicians. Last views of the Lake Geneva before we traveled back home. bye for now Cherry Lola |

Hi moms
Today I visited Murten. Murten (German) or Morat (French) is a municipality in the lake district of the canton of Fribourg. It is located on the southern shores of Lake Morat. We wandered around the old town and visited the old city wall (ring wall) from the 13th to the 17th century. A nice view over the roofs of the old town. Then we explored the shores of Lake Murten and the little harbor. View from the lake to the old town. We boarded a ship and sailed through the Broye canal to Neuchâtel, where we took the train home. kisses Cherry Lola |

Hi mommys,
today a package has arrived. Curious as always we opened it immediately and looked inside. A little shy pelican with a large, orange beak looked at us with big eyes. "Hi I'm Scoop" he whispered and gave us candy. I greeted him warmly and he slowly climbed out with the rest of his gifts. A few things struck me as very familiar. Scoop told me he had just come from the Netherlands and its previous host - Emjay - just send me warm greetings. I can well remember the wonderful time in the Netherlands. When Twixx saw the postcard from Gouda, I had to laugh out loud. He brings cheese to Switzerland - hihihi We divided the sweets and talked a lot. We will have fun - lots of fun! Bye for now Cherry Lola |

Hi moms
Jasper told me that I will continue to travel. My next destination: Beijing. Wow, China. This will be a long journey. So we had a little farewell - gummy bears party. We talked about China and bet who can balance the best gummy bears on the nose. Scoop won - no wonder, with this nose. Then it was time to pack my things. Jasper gave me some money and dextrose - you never know what happens. Some gifts for my new host and a postcard. Saying goodbye to my friends was hard and it flowed a few tears. I crawled into my jacket and was ready for the big trip. Goodbye my friends, Jasper, Switzerland. I will miss you. And - hello China 你好中國. I hope the translator did not make too big mistake. Bye mommys - see you in China Cherry Lola |

I love walking and today is a sunny day, my stripes will definitely stand out on the street! Let me see...that building looks so familiar I've seen it on a travelog... Look, I'm walking on the zebra crossing. |

goomymia Posted Mar 4, 2015, 2:27 pm |
There is a gate but it seems like a work place.
What about that one on the opposite side of the street? Ummm...my instinct tells me I need to keep walking. There you go another zebra crossing. |

Yay! I finally made it. I walked through the gate!
Now the thing is which door should I knock? |

Hello moms,
Guess what! I just met Simão IV on the bus. I was on the way to my host's home, enjoying the beautiful sunset and watching the small telly on bus to kill time, I saw him when I was just going to get off the bus. How wonderful! Beijing is so big and we were on the same bus. Remember last time he showed us around the Qianmen Street? This time I think I should show him around the place I pass by everyday which is Fuxing lu. Haha 'lu' means street in Chinese. We saw pretty car lights on the street, it seems that the sky would be dark in a few minutes. Look that is a mailbox...and Simão told me these people on the wall are the leaders of China. The single one is the present leader which is Mr.Xi Jingping. Haha ok I admit that I didn't pay much attention to those portraits before, just know who they are. Simão said he thinks Mr. Xi is a robot...oh my goodness! I have no idea how does it happen... Love and kisses Your Lola |

THIS IS CHERRY LOLA AT SOOCHOW UNIVERSITY. We took a stroll in the campus, thanks to the student ID of Mia's friend, we wouldn't be allowed to visit without it. It's such a beautiful campus! Very impressive. The trees the pavilions, everything there just like from the fairytale. The first photo is me in front of the old university gate. Today is our 2nd day in Suzhou, we were going to take a walk on Guanqian Street.
The street is located in Suzhou city centre, the commercial part of the city. Haha, sounds a bit like Qianmen Street of Beijing, doesn't it? There is a really beautiful historic site on the street which is Xuanmiao Temple, very pretty.
|
||
goomymia Posted May 6, 2015, 2:55 pm |
There are so many different type of restaurant on Guanqian Street, we finally made a deal to have lunch at Zhuhongxing which is recommended by the Lonely Planet Travel Guide.
Zhuhongxing is one of the Suzhou's most popular noodle joints, this long-standing canteen style place serves some scrummy and filling noodles. Umm..a bit like Huguosi Snack in Beijing. I'd like to have some noodles. Mia said she's trying hard to be a vegetarian but she can't give up duck and lamb, look she ordered duck rice with sweet sour sauce this time. |

We also had a lot of fun exploring Pingtan Museum.
Look at this sculpture at the entrance, the gentleman in the middle clasps his hands in front of chest, a bit like what I always do, it was a gesture to show respect when chinese met in the old days. Pingtan created by the work of the Pingtan artists which enjoys great popularity in Jiangnan. The long history has also laid a solid foundation for its development. Its contents are rich, though the form is simple. "story telling, joke cracking, music playing and aria singing" are the performing techniques, while "reasoning, tastes, unexpectedness, interest and minuteness" are the artistic features. Although it originated in Suzhou 400 years ago, Pingtan flourished in Shanghai with the development of commerce and culture at the turn of the 19th century and 20th century. After that, Pingtan became a new form of performance by innovating and carrying on the tradition. Look! A piece of old Shanghai newspaper talking about Pingtan. Mia just bought a new dress on Pingjiang Road, she tried to be more like a Suzhouer. |

" Surprise surprise! We are going to Suzhou! Umm..and we will spend about 18 hours together on the train. Trust me, it's gonna be an unforgettable holiday..ever!!!" OMG... We arrived in Suzhou in one piece, Mia apologized and promised to take the fastest bullet train back home, ummm..It'll only take 5 hours. Here are some info about this georgous city

Ni hao moms,
Suzhou is well known for its gardens, today I went to the most famous one which is The Humble Administrator's Garden. The garden is located at n°178 Dongbei Street. At 51,950 m2, it is the largest garden in Suzhou and is considered by some to be the finest garden in all of southern China. In 1997, Zhuozheng Yuan, along with other classical gardens of Suzhou was proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I literally enjoy chilling on the roof to appreciate the beauty of the garden. And those flowers are just so pretty!!! Always love Lola |

Anyhoo I have to stay at Frankfurt Airport for 4 hours, so I stroll around a bit... Look! A duty-free shop! I saw many bottles of wine and some goods of FC Bayern. I'm not a soccer fan, but they really match my red and white stripe, don't you think so? Hugs and kisses Lola |
