Hi, my name is Yakety Sax, and that is also my theme song.
My greatest wish is to re-enact a Yakety Sax chase scene. In order to acomplish this, I first need to practice by running all over the world. Can you help me? I also like high altitudes. I would love to climb a mountain as part of my training. I'm a herd animal, so I don't mind going with the flow and doing whatever you and other toys are doing, whether it be sight-seeing or cooking. |

Dear Abby!!!!
Hi, I just got here to California! Right away I met two other toy voyagers, "Marshall" from Prague, and "Midnight Sneaky Puss" from Ohio. Carolyn's daughters took me outside, it sure is beautiful here! Below Phoebe posed with me up on top. Then we enjoyed my favorite song "Yakety Sax"! San Diego is great, but I'm a tired Yak, Until later, Yakety |

Hi again,
Today Carolyn took me out shopping at the Bevmo... Where they sell, well, various drinks. I posed with the tiny bottles! Then we walked a bit over to the farmers market where I met Carolyn's friend, Victoria who sells these pretty smelling soaps there! It was nice to see a bit of the city! |

Hi there!
Today we had such a busy afternoon! We went out to Hazard Center to "The Learning Store" and made a "Halloween Countdown ". They look pretty good, don't you think? Then we walked around the square. We found a huge shark!! He scared me a little but I know I can out run him, (sharks can't run so well on land.) Next we went shopping and bought some great Halloween costumes for Chloe, Phoebe and Naomi.... They look great! This Halloween will be such fun! |

Hello!!!
Today we went over to the library. While Carolyn read books, I did some exploring. I found a very interesting suit of armor in the childrens room and a very fancy bench to sit on. It was a nice place, but very quiet! Shhh!! |

Hi there,
Not much to report. Just hung about the house today while Carolyn got some work done. Carolyn's an artist and she drew a little cartoon of me! What do you think? |

Hi again,
Yesterday we headed up to Del Mar for a workshop. We decorated sugar skulls for "El Dia de los Muertos" (Day of the dead). We start off with just a big skull made of molded sugar. Then we decorated with icing and sparkles. In Mexico they eat these, and I really want to, but Carolyn says they are just "decoration".... Oh Well. Then we walked down through the city to the ocean. The Pacific Ocean sure is windy!... Such a nice day! |

Hi, I've been very busy, but haven't had a chance to update. Last Friday I went to school with Carolyn's daughter. They liked me so much and the kids were so nice! They were wearing costumes for Halloween, so they gave me one.... See my ribbon? I'm a present.
Then on Saturday we went trick-or-treating . We saw some really spooky houses. I liked the Fortune Teller and the skeleton ball! Look at how much candy they got! I'm going to eat it while they're at school! bye |

Hi there!
We have a new visitor here! His name is Holgi and he's originally from Germany, though I guess he's been travelling for a while now. I bet he has many interesting stories! Well bye for now! |

Hello!
Yesterday we had a big adventure! We went over to the trolley and rode down to the waterfront. There were cruise ships and old fashioned boats and a sculpture exhibit called "Urban Tees"! What a day! |

Hi!
Today Carolyn and her husband went to work at Jones Elementary School and I got to go. They've been hired to paint a mural! These are some pictures of it. As you can see they are just getting started. It's a picture of dolphins-the school mascott! |

Hello,
This is Carolyn, Yakety's current host. Yakety just left on a trip this morning with my daughter to Palomar Mountain. When she returns (in a week) I'll have many photos to post! Good Luck Yakety! |

Chloe brought me to camp with her and we went on a hike. The hike was fun, we went up a mountain and saw a mountain view.
We learned about the beauty of nature and why it's important to take care of the environment. The second to last photo is of Eagle's nest where we listened to stories, sang songs and played games. The triangle was on the floor of my cabin. |

Hi again,
We went out to the New Children's Museum in downtown, San Diego yesterday. There were so many fun things there. Right when we walked in there was a giant Trojan Horse. We went upstairs and went inside. Then we played on bouncy little donkeys, found a strange balloon creature hanging from the ceiling, and headed over to the rainbow room. There was also this incredible tower made of a grating. Afterwards we played outside on the playground.... So much fun! |

Hiya,
I went on a trip down to Tijuana in Mexico! We took the train down and walked across the border. Just inside the border we found the prettiest cow! Then we posed by a Mexico sign, and walked into town. In no time we found the Tijuana wax museum. Inside there were many interesting sculptures... including Elvis! Then I stopped for a picture by the famous Tijuana arc! Hasta luego! |

Hi again,
Yesterday I went out to see a band play. The concert was called "Music of the Andes". It was special to Carolyn because it reminded her of where she used to live. Before we went inside we took some pictures in the garden. The band was very good. They were from Ecuador, I hope I get to go there! |

Hi, we packed up and traveled through the desert to Phoenix, Arizona.
After we arrived we headed over to the Phoenix Zoo. We took a picture by the pond outside the zoo. By a giraffe, and by a pond inside the zoo. then I saw some gibbons on an island. They are so silly, they stay on the island because they don't know they can swim. It was fun, I liked Phoenix! |

Happy New Year!!!
Today we went out to La Jolla Cove! It was really pretty. We walked up the waterfront to see the seals on the beach. They were so funny the way they would just lay there and flop about! Farther up the waterfront we came across these pelicans. Now here's a good picture of the pelicans with sealions behind them! (Carolyn's husband took it and he's really happy with this one!). These animals were so close to us, it was amazing! Here's some more pelicans with their seagull friend... What a great day out! 2010 is starting off well! |
Carolyn Posted Jan 17, 2010, 4:39 pm |
Hi we went over to Lake Murray!
It sure was pretty, but very hot. Here we are looking in the runoff creek for shells and lizards! We found lots of shells, but those lizards were too quick to catch! |

Hello!
I arrived at my new host's house today! Hey I recognize that flag! I was a little bit sad at first when I saw that they still have snow here! I miss warm California! But then I remembered that I am a yak with a thick coat of fur so I should be okay. I even played in the snow a little bit. I can't wait to go exploring! I was starting to get colder though so I decided to wait for a warmer day. I went inside and had something hot to drink instead. Yum! Then I met a little bear named Napo. He welcomed me to Nova Scotia and showed me the flag. I think I will have fun here! Bye for now! -Yackety |

Happy Easter!
The Easter Bunny brought me lots of chocolate eggs! My Kinder egg had a toy bat inside. Fun! I hope that I will still be able to run after eating all this candy! Bye for now! -Yakety Sax |

Hello Again!
It was really warm here today (23°C) so we took a drive to a beach to spend the afternoon. In the summer time this place is very crowded but today there were only 2 brave surfers in the water. It wasn't nearly as warm by the water. I sure am glad that I have warm fur! I really wanted to practice my running on the beach... ... but running in sand is harder than I thought! So I just played in the sand instead! After that I played in the waves! When I was finished exploring the sandy beach, I wandered over to the rocky part of the beach. There was lots of stinky seaweed to get past first! That's better! I decided to climb up onto the big rocks. Don't worry I was careful not to fall! I sat up there for a while and listened to the waves crash. Then it was time to cross the seaweed again and go warm up in the car! Bye for now! -Yakety Sax |

Hello!
Today we went on a drive along St. Margarets Bay and we stopped at a little place called Seabright to get out and take some pictures. There were lots of little fishing shacks along the water I looked in the water but I didn't see any fish. I think that it is still too cold! Then it was starting to get dark so it was time to go! Bye Bye! -Yakety Sax |

Hello!
I went to visit a memorial dedicated to the people who died when a plane crashed into the ocean here. Here is the sign: The landscape was very interesting. The whole area is covered in big boulders that were left behind by glaciers many many years ago. The people who made the memorial wanted to mimic the rocks in their design. Here it is! I had a moment of silence for the passengers. I hope that I am never in a plane crash! I really prefer running to flying! When we were leaving I spotted something in the distance that cheered me up. It's the Peggy's Cove lighthouse! Ren says that she will take me there really soon! I can't wait! Bye bye! -Yakety Sax |

I went to visit Peggy's Cove today!
Peggy's Cove is famous around here because it is such a pretty little fishing town and there is a big lighthouse there. First we walked around the buildings for a bit. It was so peaceful! There was nobody else around! There were lots of lobster traps around! But they were all empty! Then we went up the hill to the lighthouse. There it is! Up there it was very windy and the water was not as calm! But I still made it up to the lighthouse! Bye for now! -Yakety Sax |

Hello Again!
Today walked to the park with Napo and one of my host's dogs. It was lots of fun! We played on the equipment for a bit. I took lots of rides on the slider! Wheeee! After I went exploring in behind the park. It seems like the ground is completely made of rock here! Then we met up with someone my host knew in a fancy blue car. I decided to race it! And of course I won! We went for a quick ride down to the waterfront. We continued our walk down there for a bit and came across another park. There was a swimming pool too, but I think that it's too still cold for that! I hope that it warms up soon! Bye for now! -Yakety Sax |

Hi again!
It's been a while since I updated here! My host is really sorry about that. She's been busy, but I was still able to go out exploring! I went to visit another Beach called Crystal Crescent. It's one of the main swimming beaches here because it is one of the few that has sand instead of rocks. To get there we had to follow a long path. There it is! The water is a very pretty blue here! I wondered where everyone was. I guess I got there too early! I ran races with the waves for a while. I am getting really fast! Then I took a foot path up into the hills. Here is the beach from the other side. A lot more people had arrived! On my way to the lookout point I saw a massive ship on it's way out of Halifax! A tiny tug boat was escorting it out. At last I came to the end of the path. Here is where you can see the Sambro Island Lighthouse. (If you had really really strong binoculars! It's on the island on the right) Here is an extreme close up: The Sambro Lighthouse is the oldest surviving Lighthouse in North America. It was built in 1758 and is a Canadian historic site. Interesting!! Bye for now! -Yakety Sax |

Hi!
Today I went downtown to see a Victorian garden. At first I wasn't sure if I would like it because I saw this sign: No jogging! But I love to run! =( I decided to go in anyway though and I'm glad that I did! There were lots of interesting plants to see! The Gazebo is in the very center of the gardens and three statues of Greek goddess's surround it. I also saw three fountains. One: Two: Three: There is lots of water here, including a huge duck pond (I guess that the ducks are all camera shy!) A pair of geese live in another pond, They weren't too keen on having their picture taken either! That's a little better! I spent the afternoon here sitting in the shade! I wonder where I will go next? -Yakety Sax |

Hello again!
Ren and I spent August house and pet sitting in the Annapolis valley! It is most well known for farming (especially apples!) and we stayed in an old farmhouse there. It was very peaceful! I spent most of my days resting with Toothless the cat! Every evening we took the dog Bailey on a walk. The roads are very straight and flat here, perfect for running! I raced Bailey a bunch of times! Ready, Set, GO!!!! I won every time! (Don't feel bad Bailey! I've been trained really hard!) Here are some farm buildings: And some apple trees: The apples were not quite ready yet, but there were lots of wooden boxes to put them in once they were picked! There were dead apple trees too. Then had been rolled up into big balls. Interesting! Once the sun set it was time to go back to the house! Bye for now! |

One (really hot!) day Ren and I drove up to Annapolis Royal for the afternoon. It is a really pretty town that is very popular with artists and writers.
There are lots of old buildings to look at! It's on the water too so there were boats and a lighthouse! On one end of the town is Fort Anne. It was founded by Samuel de Champlain and Pierre Dugua in 1605 and is the oldest permanent (European) settlement in Canada. (The French called this place Port Royal and the Brittish called it Annapolis Royal) Here is a statue of Pierre Dugua, one of the founders: (The sun was really bright!) And an interesting old building: This stone was pretty cool too! This was the officer's quarters. It was build in 1797 by the British. It is a museum now. There are lots of ditches in the ground! It was fun to run up and down them! Here is the remains of the Queen's Wharf: The British and the French fought over this land a lot. This white flag represents the day that the French surrendered in 1710 and Annapolis Royal became the first capital of the province of Nova Scotia. I'm glad that it is a peaceful place now, but I still had some fun playing with the cannons and imagining that I was a soldier! Fire! After all that exploring it was time to take a rest and listen to a band play at the officers’ quarters building! Bye for now! -Yakety Sax |

Today, I saw group chattering at the mall, one of their people came and found me on a bench, and took me back to the others exclaiming "Hey, guys...look at what I found!"
I was then passed around to everyone, each person speculating on where they could take me, what they could do to help my journey along, and then...I was given to the girl whose room I'm staying in now. ((I found out just how long it had been since this travel log had been updated, and it may be a while before this little yak gets to really go places again, but in the meantime...well, there will be photos to come. )) |
