Today I visited the area around a castle near my home. We saw the castle from outside and went to its gardens. The Gardens had its origin in the 17th century, when the marriage of Leopold's great-grandfather Prince John George II of Anhalt-Dessau to the Dutch princess Henriette Catharina, in 1659 brought a team of engineers and architects from the Low Countries to lay out the town, the palace and a Baroque garden in the former settlement of Nischwitz, which was renamed Oranienbaum in 1673. The Dutch influence remained prevalent in the Principality of Anhalt-Dessau for many decades. Oranienbaum Palace was finished in 1683 as the summer residence of Henriette Catharina, where she retired after the death of her husband in 1693. From 1780 on Duke Leopold III had the palace and the park rebuilt in a Chinese style with several arch bridges, a tea house and a pagoda. In 1811, the orangery was built, with 175 m (574 ft) in length one of the largest in Europe, which still serves to protect a wide collection of citrus plants. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau, opened a new gallery this year.
And there are lots of palm trees in the park. We found a nice wagon where we could relax a little bit. Then also found a lovely nostalgic bridge. It looks really special! Look, the Chinese pagoda is so beautiful when the sun is shining. We also visited the Chinese tea house. Can you see us? Sean |

We did a road trip by car.
We stopped to have a look at these beautiful purple flowers. I really like them. Then we drove to the vegetable field to check out when it is time to harvest. Hmm, I think we have to wait a few more days. We stopped again near some flowers and took one into our car. Isn't it beautiful? Then we drove and drove and drove... until we arrived on a sunny place. We decided to do a picnic. Alex put lots of stuff to eat and drink into the trunk. Brilliant kitty! We enjoyed our picnic! We all got some lemonade and fruits. The mice got some cheese. We also had chicken, sausages and cake. Alex decided to drink milk instead of lemonade. It was so delicious! When we all were full we put the leftovers back into the trunk and drove home. We used a fast street, of course! Sean |

Today I walked through my home city.
Here you can see the Haus der Kulturen der Welt ("House of the Cultures of the World" ). It is Germany's national centre for contemporary non-European art. It presents art exhibitions, theater and dance performances, concerts, author readings, films and academic conferences on non-European Visual Art and culture. This building is a gift from the United States, designed in 1957. John F. Kennedy spoke here during his June 1963 visit to West Berlin. To Berliners it is also known as the Schwangere Auster ("pregnant oyster" ). This is the Bismarck Memorial. It is a prominent memorial statue dedicated to Prince Otto von Bismarck, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Prussia and the first Chancellor of the German Empire. Sean |

Today I left Berlin. Gypsy also left. All the others cuddled us.
Then we crawled into the envelope and left the city. Sean |

Hello folks, I'm back!!!
During the last months I grew up and became an adult penguin. I finally got my real adult plumage and yeah, I lost weight! What to do now? I jumped into a train and traveled home on my own. It is white outside. That's what a penguin likes! Finally I found a station that looked like home. i jumped out of the train and yeah, I think I'm right. Now I just have to walk....and walk..........maybe I'll arrive some day. Sean |
MA_17 Posted May 15, 2013, 11:03 pm |
Argh... I forgot that penguins are not the good in walking.
I need about one week to find our house. But now, there was another problem: BIG STAIRS! I need a few hours, but I'm sure I managed it pretty well. Finally in my home I was welcomed by my brother Alex! Sean |

Hi Mummy!
I arrived in Remscheid today. I was welcomed by my new host Katja and two more ToyVoyagers, nosyblue and Willy W. who returned from a long trip to Japan recently. We tried the delicious chocolates immediately The weather is rather bad here, it's foggy and not as warm as it should be in May. I think nobody wants to go out today to show me around, maybe tomorrow. Bye Sean |

Hi Mummy,
I met some of my host's pets today, cute little furry things with sharp teeth. Four ferrets are living here, the girls Shiva, Brighty and Zaehnchen and a guy named Manfred. I found Brighty and Shiva in their favourite sleeping place in the kitchen. My host told me to be careful with them as they are predators. Haha! An ice bear is a predator, but these little sleepy animals? Bye Sean |

Hi Mummy,
finally we are having fantastic weather, so we decided to take a walk to one of the forests. Although Remscheid is an industrial city, it is surrounded by lots of forests, valleys and rural areas. First we picked up a friend who wanted to come with us, so we started our trip close to this small park just in front of the police headquarter. Katja told us that we would walk to a district called Reinshagen. We had to walk along the streets for some time. IN the background we saw the outskirts of Wuppertal and Solingen, the neighbour cities. We left the main street than to walk through a small housing area, already close to the forest. We rested here for a while, sitting about 1,80 m high with a great overview Hidden between trees we had a first glimpse to Muengsten Bridge, Germany's highest railway bridge. Later we found a place with a better view to the bridge. The bridge is overspanning the valley of river Wupper, about 480 m long and 107 m high, a construction made of steel which is restored at the moment. When we left the forest Katja showed us the railway track which is leading to the bridge. Unfortunately we cannot cross it by train at the moment due to the repair works which will be going on until November, but we will visit the leisure park under the bridge one day. Bye Sean |

Hi Mummy,
in the afternoon we took a walk to the nearby municipal park. We walked through a quater with lovely old houses. There is a large playground under these large trees, I'm not sure if you can see it. Before we reached the municipal park once more we came along a small park, just opposite of the police headquarter. In the municipal park we visited a pond first. Ducks and turtles are living here. The ducks are having babies - look at these cute ducklings! Here is a zoomed photo. These ducks were taking a walk outside the pond area The municipal park is mostly a landscape park with a large tree population. The rhododendron is blooming! Katja took a group photo. This is the observatory, you can find it in the entrance area of the municipal park. On our way home we walked through the small park I've shown you before. Bye for now Sean |

Hi Mummy,
today we took a short walk in the city centre when we finished work. First I will show you these large forceps. This sculpture is a symbol for the tool producing industry for which Remscheid is well known in the world. This sculpture is showing the figurehead of the local newspaper, Remscheider Generalanzeiger. Here you can see the entrance area of the shopping mall with a large fountain in front of it and the tower of the city hall in the background. The next photo was taken in the middle of the city centre, it's showing a lot of trees! This is the public library ... ... and here you can see the rear side of the shopping mall with a tunnel for busses under it. From here we hurried home because we were almost starving! Bye Sean |

Hi Mummy,
we took a walk in the rural surroundings of the district Luettringhausen today. The weather was not great, but at least it was not raining. We had to cross the motorway A1, it was terribly loud here. What a lovely landscape with the yellow rape field. There are some small hamlets, with both dwellings and farms. This water tower is even visible from the city centre of Remscheid, where I am living at the moment. Bye Sean |

Hi Mummy,
it is nice warm summer day and we met friends in the evening. We enjoyed the evening sitting in the garden and tasting mojitos. When I saw all that crushed ice in the kitchen I had a great idea. I took a bath in a bowl filled with crushed ice Then I was ready to enjoy the warm evening. Bye Sean |

Hi Mummy,
Katja took me us on a walk along river Wupper today. River Wupper is rising in the Oberbergisches Land and later mouthing into river Rhine. It is marking the border beween Remscheid and the neighbour city Solingen, crossed by Germany's highest railway bridge. Katja promised that we would visit this bridge too. River Wupper is also dammed to more than 15 dams. We started our trip in Solingen-Unterburg close to this weir. We followed the river for some time, always walking in a pitoresque forest. This ear trumpet is intensifying the sound of the water which is pouring down the rocks. We reached a bridge and crossed the river. On the opposite river bank we had to walk uphill. Katja showed us a famous medieval castle in the background, Schloss Burg. And yes, she promised that we would visit this castle too this summer. Finally we walked through the inner city of Unterburg (hahaha - only a few shops, restaurants and cafès ). This is "Kiepenkerl", a statue showing a worker carrying a pannier on his back, filled with pretzels. Katja explained that in ancient times due to the topographical situation it was only possible to carry goods from one place to another with such panniers. This is a creek, Eschbach, mouthing into river Wupper here in Unterburg. This was an interesting trip. Bye Sean |
olgamaus Posted Jun 13, 2013, 9:06 am |
Hi Mummy,
we went to the outskirts of Lennep, another district of Remscheid, also with woodland and rural areas around. Katja told us that we would walk along one of those many dams of river Wupper. We left the housing area and walked along some meadows. Can yo see those funny place names? We reached Wupper dam, not a drinking water dam like most of them here in this region. You can swim here, dive, canoe or sail. I was brave enough to sit on this grate with a vast overfall underneath. Broom was blooming all along the path. Welcome to Germany - nothing is allowed! Neither ice-skating, camping nor lighting a fire. We left the dam territory and walked through a rural area once more. We rested here for a while. To get back we walked through a parkway along a housing area. Love Sean |

Hi Mummy,
today we met Katja's friend Kerstin and took a walk with her and her dog. We went to Wuppertal, to Scharpenacken, a former army training area. This area was used for military purposes until 2004 A.D as a shooting range. Today there is a local recreation area with vast open areas, but also woodland. On these signs you can find information about this interesting area. It will be renatured in the coming years. I found the perfect place to rest for a while We made a side trip to a nearby country park, Vorwerk-Park. This park was built in early 20th century by the founder of a business company as a private park on his own estate, as a garden for his villa. Even a stone pit was comprised into the park, planted with rhododendrons. You can find some natural pools here, fed by a creek which is flowing in the valley. The villa itself and the oldest part of the park were already built in 1895. In 2001 the park was sanified and opened for the public. Steep stairs were leading to the upper parts of the park. Isn't this a lovely place? [img][/img] Rhododendron is blooming everywhere. All these pink bushes are rhododendron. Here you can see the pond I showed you before. Back in the former army area ... A lot of people come here with their dogs to let them run and play. It seemed that all the dogs were playing somewhere else today Bye Sean |

Hi Mummy,
today we visited Germany's highest railway bridge, Muengsten Bridge. Katja told me that Germany's highes railway bridge is connecting Remscheid with the neighbour city Solingen. We went to the valley of the river Wupper to take a walk here. First we went into the forest. We found a lookout point with a fantastic view to the bridge. Katja told us there would be artwork along the path, mostly engraved rocks like this. In the meantime we went downhill and followed the river. We went down to the river bank and enjoyed the sun. What a lovely shady place under the trees! Later we crossed the river here. You can find maps and information boards along the path, telling you interesting facts about history and geography of this region. It was time for another rest We had to walk uphill than, can you see the river deep down in the valley? Finally we reached the leisure park underneath the bridge. Muengsten Bridge was built of steel, completed in 1907. It is about 480 m long and 107 m tall. There are extensive repair works going on in the last few years and they are taking place at the moment. The bridge will be closed until November. Some years ago a leisure park was built under the bridge. You can find lawns for relaxing here, a crazy golf course, playgrounds for the kids and restaurants. Can you see the outlook pavillion in the background? From here we had a first look at the bridge. Bye for now Sean |

Hi Mummy,
we took a walk today in the outskirts of Remscheid, in the district Lennep. When we parked the car I had a look at those skyscrapers, Katja told me that there were not many of them. From here we went through a rural area with different fields. Here is growing barley. It is used for brewing beer, Katja told me. We went into a forest than. The ground was very wet and muddy, soon our feet and shoes became really dirty. The branches of those larches were soft like fur. All along the path foxglove is growing. Do we know foxglove in Hong Kong? Foxglove are looking beautiful, but they are poisonous. In a secluded hamlet we found this little church, it is called "Forest Church" (Waldkirche). Out path led us along Wupper dam, a large barrier lake. River Wupper is dammed to a large lake. In another barley field red poppies were growing. Soon we reached the car and went back home. Bye for today Sean |

Hi Mummy,
We visited friends today. They are living in the neighbour city Wuppertal. We went to Wuppertal by bus. Before we went to their house we took a walk in the city centre. Here you can see the historic concert hall. Wuppertal is situated in the valley of river Wupper. From this place close to the concert hall we had a first overview. Here you can see the concert hall once more. Sort of dancing contest was taking place here today, everywhere you could see people dressed in fantastic dancing costumes. You won't believe what I met here - a penguin! Katja told me about the Pinguinale 2006. There were 200 large penguins painted by 175 different artists. They were exposed all over the city area from April until August 2006, than they moved to the zoo to celebrate its 125th birthday. Nowadays lots of those penguins still can be found in the city. I was curious if I would meet more of them. This is a swimming bath, it is called "Schwimmoper". It has room for 1.600 spectators. We went down to the city centre than. The first thing you see is the Schwebebahn (Suspension Railway). It was built in late 19th century and was established in 1901. The tracks are 8 m above the streets and 12 m above the Wupper River. Most of the track is built over river Wupper. The whole route is about 13,3 km long. Taking a trip from one end the other takes about 30 minutes. Katja promised that we would take a short trip with the railway, so we went to the next station. In Wuppertal you can find modern buildings and historic things close together, like this old bridge in front of recently built houses. This is one of 20 stations along the track. The stations are built in different styles, this one is a really modern one, while you can also find stations in their original historic style. Inside the station ... A train came in. We took a short trip than, only three stations. We got out of the train in a more industrial area, there were factory buildings built at the river bank. This station was refurbished in its original style. We walked back to the city centre. I met another penguin We even saw the "Kaiserwagen", an historic train which you can hire for special events. This is the court building, also situated close to the river. Here you can see another of the more modern stations, built with a lot of glass. In those buildings you can mostly find offices, but also bars, surgeries and smaller factories. Our trip ended here and we went visiting our friends. Bye Sean. |

Hello Mum,
I just arrived in the right time, because we took a trip by bike to this nice place today. It was a group of big boulders. This was a very big granite. We all relaxed on one of the boulders in the sunshine. Many years ago trains used this way – I saw photos from the Past. On our way back home we stopped at the church of Sülfeld – a nice building. Today I played in the garden. There were many beautiful flowers. And I love Nessie, the funny monster with her fountain. Then I talked to this funny guy. Look – a beautiful red dahlia. More nice flowers. And these yellow flowers were so beautiful, too. It is such a beautiful place! Yours Sean |

Hello Mum,
Today some TVs came and visited us. It was so nice to see them! Then we had some delicious cakes. Can you see how hot it was? The chocolate melted. We ate a lot – it was yummy! Sorry to tell you that I ate so much that I had to lay down. Then Dicker Kumpel got a present by Helmut. Delicious drinks. We spent the afternoon relaxing in the sunshine and of course we talked a lot! Then it was time to say goodbye to our friends. Cuddling is great – so we had a big cuddle. In the evening it was time for the drinks! We all got a bottle. We would have loved to have a party with our friends, who left today, so we decided to ‘invite’ them to our party. I chose Helmut, because we had a lot of fun together today. It was a wonderful evening! Cheers! Sean |

Hello Mum,
It is summer in Germany at the moment – and a really hot summer. I had a look at the temperature – more than 30 degrees Celsius. We asked RikeH what to do – and she had a great idea. We played with water bombs. I threw my red one on Rocky, and he threw his orange one onto me. I waited… Then it came. Wow – I got wet. Rocky got wet, too. It was so much fun – and we wanted more. So we asked our humans to throw the water bombs. There were two. But one jumped away. Look – the next one was great – RikeH took the right moment for the photo. It was so much water – I felt backwards. More fun! It was a great afternoon! Yours Sean |

Hello Mum,
Today I went to a town near to Sülfeld – it is called Bad Segeberg. It has a wonderful church. This is the market place. During the summer time they play Winnetou in the open air theatre. All over the city you find different stakes. On this one was a big bird. And this stake was very colorful. Later I went to the Lake of Segeberg – can you see the Apache on the photo? The lake was really beautiful! We thought about going around it, but then we had to go home and wait for the Telekom-man who wanted to repair our internet. Well Mum, the man from the Telekom didn't come. And we still have a lot of problems with the internet, that's why we update really late. Love Sean |

Hello Mum,
Many greetings from Bremerhaven. We decided to go there, because Dicker Kumpel promised me a big surprise here. But it will be tomorrow, today we explored the city. There were two really beautiful buildings. On the other side I saw the water from the river Weser. You can see that we are close to the Sea. There were some beautiful ships. Many emigrants started their travels here – this monument is a memory for these people. We had to stop at this watergate, because a ship wanted to go through it. Behind me you can see the little harbor in the middle of the city. And these are the views out of our room. Love Sean |

Hello Mum,
We went to Bremerhaven, because RikeH and Dicker Kumpel decided to help me with one of my life missions. We went to the Zoo of Bremerhaven. We started with the ice bears. This one was a little tired at the beginning. His friend was not as tired. Then we came to the important part of the Zoo. I saw a sign with many relatives. Then I met these two guys. They were much taller than me. We talked a lot – and the left one came closer. There were more pinguins – it was nice to meet them all. There were interesting things to learn about penguins. This was the swimming pool for my friends. Here I saw them under the water, too. After two hours I agreed to continue our walk – and saw other nice feet. The feet of these birds. Later I met another tired animal – maybe the penguins were the only one – next to the birds – who didn't sleep. Can you see the seal in the water? Maybe this photo is better. This was my last look over the Zoo – and I saw the two ice bears together. It was a nice day in the Zoo – and it was great to meet my relatives. Yours Sean |

Hello Mum,
We went to Hamburg. This was the old part of the port, but now they built many new houses here. This is the Elbphilharmonie. It is a new building, too – and it gets more and more expensive. We decided to took a short trip on a boat. It is great to see the ships and the port from the Elbe River. This is a really old sailing ship. Well – maybe I will sail the seven seas in the future? This building is the "alter Elbtunnel". The building where you can reach a tunnel under the Elbe River. We decided not to walk under the Elbe, because it was a hot day. Here I learnt a lot about the Elbtunnel. Love Sean |

Hello Mum,
It was a wonderful day today. We visited the Beatles Place in Hamburg – one of Rocky Raccoon’s life missions. Here you can see the Beatles. The Beatles Place is in a – well let me call it – not so nice part of Hamburg– RikeH told us not to have a closer look in this street. But back to the Beatles – maybe I am a member of the Beatles now? Then we continued our walk and visited a park called Planten un Blomen (plants and flowers). I liked this funny fountain. And they had wonderful flowers. We went into the tropical house and saw other beautiful plants. I learnt that this plant is called Mother-in-Law’s chair. Can you imagine why? It was a wonderful day in Hamburg, again. Yours Sean |

Hello Mum,
Today was an important day…but not for us ToyVoyagers. Dicker Kumpel’s Mum RikeH married her finance on the lighthouse of Amrum today. We TVs were not with them, but we waited at home. There were only some gifts, because they decided to celebrate their wedding alone as a couple. But someone wrote a huge card! Who was it? Well – how amazing! The ones of you who love Darts will definitely know this man! Then we looked into a small nice book with lovely poems about love and marriage. We all wanted to get a piece of the wedding cake! I liked the flowers! Later another gift arrived – it was from a very good friend of RikeH. We opened it and found this lovely pair of koala bears together with more nice stuff. But now I want to say: Congratulations RikeH! Love Sean |

Hello Mum,
We took a walk to this nice small harbor today. We had delicious lunch in this colorful restaurant. These colorful signs were used on the North Sea to show some danger zones. Can you understand these sentences, if not, just ask me or RikeH. Then we stopped at a great playground. It was fun playing here. Later we continued our walk and went through the Dunes. Look, a beautiful house! And the Kniepsand – a very big beach! Some people took a bath in the North Sea. Yours Sean |

Hi Mum,
In the morning I went onto our balcony and saw the ferry. Fortunately we still have some days here, so we enjoyed the sunshine. Later that day the weather went much better – and I took a walk to the small beach – and saw another ferry. Can you see the lighthouse far behind me? It was great sitting in the Dunes. And I found some nice shells. Love Sean |

Hello Mum,
Can you read the words on this sign? I think it is welcome to Nebel. Nebel is a nice small village on the Amrum Island. There is a beautiful church. Out on the cemetery they have interesting gravestones. This is one of the oldest houses here. There are many thatched houses on the Island. This is another cemetery. It is used for unknown people found dead on the beaches of Amrum. My last stop was next to this beautiful mill. Yours Sean |

Hello Mum,
Sunday was our last day on Amrum – and we relaxed on our beach chair. We thought that it was boring to sit next to each other, so we all searched our own place. Can you find me? Yes, here I am! Later that day we drove home to Sülfeld. I had two nice days there, but now it was time to say good-bye to Dicker Kumpel. We had a lot of fun together. All TVs gave me a big hug – now I am on the way to my next host. Bye Sean |

Hi Mum,
I arrived in Bruchsal last week. My host has problems with her computer, but I am safe here and she told me, that she will take photos with me anyway and upload them, when her computer "feels better" Greetings, Sean |
fam-united Posted Nov 24, 2013, 5:03 pm |
After many days with rainy weather we finally had the chance to go outside. We decided to go on a walk through the so called Stadtwald, a wood, which belongs to Bruchsal.
Here you see the result of what happens, if bark beetles hit a tree. The tree, which you see behind, which is snapped off, also had the bark beetles. Usually this tree doesn't lose it's needles. This is the place, where my host's class will lay out a field of walnuts and black walnuts in end of November. We found a tree, where deers rub their antlers. Not far away from this place we saw a deeryard. There are many badger sets, too. Parts of the forest seem like a jungle. The fields are harvested and the trees are beautiful in their colours now. |
fam-united Posted Nov 24, 2013, 5:31 pm |
The weather was nice again, so we decided to go on another walk. We passed the church St. Peter. It is a beautiful baroque church, which is located next to the graveyard.
During World War II. about 80 % of Bruchsal was destroyed, but there are still some nice houses left. These two houses are next to the river Saalbach, which flows through Bruchsal. Then we left the town again to take some fresh breaths without exhaust fumes. We passed some vineyards. It got really cold, so we decided to walk home again. Do you see the two towers? They belong to the church St. Peter and I live close to this church at the moment. Bruchsal is located at the edge of Kraichgau hill country to Rhine valley, which ups and downs you can see on the photos above too. |
fam-united Posted Nov 24, 2013, 6:05 pm |
We didn't go out in Mannheim, but I hope, you will enjoy the photos anyway.
I loved the flowers on the balcony. We were really high above the street, you see. In the early evening it was time to say goodbye and drive home again. I've seen the television tower. Soon we are on the autobahn, the German freeway. |
fam-united Posted Nov 24, 2013, 8:02 pm |
The next day we thought it would be a good idea, to go on another trip. The weather was nice, but we didn't think of the short holiday break many people had, so there was a lot of traffic on the road and we didn't get far within an hour. So the only thing we did was driving and standing in the traffic jam and taking a photo now and then. I really hope to see more of Stuttgart one day. Stuttgart is the main city of the federal state Baden-Württemberg.
We came past the Porsche Museum. If we would have had enough time, we could have seen the Wilhelma, the zoo in Stuttgart. |

Hello mum,
today we visited Hann.Münden. There was a wonderful town hall. This tower looked liked a candle - funny, isn't it? This was the “Weserstein”. This is the place where the Rivers Werra and Fulda meet to form the River Weser. A wonderful bridge over the Fulda. Hann.Münden has a lot of beautiful half-timbered houses. I really loved the old town gate. There were some constructions works in front of the castle. I absolutely wanted to have a photo with this funny guy. Hann. Münden is really a beautiful town. Many greetings Sean |

Hello mum,
today we took a trip to a small spa town near to our home. There was a spa garden with a saline. We were really curious about it. But first some photos from the town. A beautiful fountain – unfortunately not working – but it is wintertime. The carillon didn’t work for us, too. But this girl loved to play with us. On the way to the spa garden we saw this beautiful house. It would be a nice place to live in. At the entrance of the spa gardens we found this stage. We sang a wonderful Christmas Song for HoBi. Can you find me? Finally we found the saline! But what was it? It was so small! The salines in Bad Salzdetfurth are so much taller. Maybe I can show you a photo soon. It was beautiful, but…. At the end we found this great tree. How will he look in the summertime with leaves? A beautiful trip with ugly weather again… Until soon Sean |

Hello mum,
today a new guest arrived. Who will it be? It was Soeren. It was very cold and windy, but we wanted to leave the house. We went to Seesen. It is a city with many windows. You can see the famous places of the city when you look through the windows. We saw the Castle Sehusa through the first window. Then we met this nice guy. It is Wilhelm Busch – he wrote many famous stories. All over the city you meet these funny boys. Their names are Max and Moritz. Through this window you see an old courtyard. Here you see the church of Seesen. This house was so beautiful! Look – Max and Moritz from the back side. This museum was really beautiful, wasn’t it? Seesen is a really beautiful city. Until soon Sean |

Hello Mum,
Today we went to a small wildlife park. A beautiful lake with many storks… Many animals – like these funny guys - didn’t want to stay outside, because it was too cold. These alpacas had enough wool – so it wasn’t cold for them. These small guinea pigs found a cozy place under the warm lamp. A funny train. I love these kangaroos. Why is this old digger here? Maybe children love playing with it…. Eventually we had sunshine… My friend RikeH would have loved it here – so many budgies… … these guys were really lazy… Our last photo for today. We wish you all merry Christmas! Love Sean |

Great news – I was back in Sülfeld for a short visit. It was great to see Dicker Kumpel and the others. Dicker Kumpel had Christmas gifts for us. Delicious chocolate! We all got great things! Then we went to the Christmas Crib - the child was born! I loved the Christmas tree! Look – the beautiful decoration! Then it was time to say goodbye. Murph, Soeren and I will go on a holiday with HoBi. We had a big TV-hug! Love Sean |

It was our first day at the Baltic Sea. This is a typical photo for the North A lot of small houses directly next to the water. Beautiful, isn’t it`? On our way to the town we found this lantern. The town hall of Neustadt… I absolutely wanted to have a photo with these fishermen. Two famous building of Neustadt: the town gate and the Pagodenspeicher. There were many sailing ships in the harbor. Upps, it got dark, we had to go back home… Neustadt is a beautiful small town, but I want to go to the Baltic Sea tomorrow Yours Sean |

Hello mum,
What a beautiful weather! It was windy and cold, but the sun was shining. The pier of Dahme Such a beautiful beach Another pier Unfortunately you cannot recognize the birds on this photo. Cormorants – I never saw them before! We enjoyed the sunshine. This was the only lighthouse we found. Can you see the kites? They belong to kite surfer. Would this be fun? I think it would be very cold, when you fall into the water. Everywhere at the beach we found sallow thorn. Really beautiful! Over this beautiful boardwalk we went back home The wind was really cold. It was time for the fireplace … Until soon Sean |

Hello mum,
today we took a trip to an island. Do you know this bridge? First we went to Puttgarden. We were lucky, because we saw a very big ferry near to us. Then we drove to the beach. There was a monument on the beach. It should remember us of the sinking of a ship. The life is wonderful on the beach in the sunshine… We found this great harbor on our way back. Unfortunately there were no ships because it was winter. What a wonderful day on this beautiful island! Greetings Sean |

Hello mum,
Today we visited the castlegarden of Eutin. There was a small pavilion next to the lake. In the park was this small waterfall. Beautiful, isn’t it? A small sacrificial altar. The servants lived in this beautiful house in the past. Over this Chinese bridge we walked to the next pavilion. What a beautiful Lady… The castle had many beautiful buildings. But we loved most this funny guy. Yours Sean |

Our second stop was Plön. There is a big lake in Plön. And a castle of course. I would love to live in this house. Can we please buy it? Oops, it got dark; we had to drive home… Today it is New Year’s Eve. We wanted to have a party! Murph spent a Killepitzsch. Wow, yummy! What a wonderful evening! It was time for the fireworks. Maybe a little late, but I wish you all a happy New Year Sean |

Hello mum,
Today we took a long walk along a high bank. We enjoyed the sunshine at the beach The high bank is 20 Meter high… All over the beach there were trees. They slid down from the bank. Mum, could we spend a holiday here? I love these houses… It was another beautiful day at the Baltic Sea. Until soon Sean |

Hello mum,
It was our last day at the Baltic Sea and the weather was awful . It rained. My first stop was on the highest mountain from Schleswig-Holstein… A ski-lift on a mountain with a high of 168 meters?... I never saw something like this before… Later we went to the sea again. There were waves today. A small ice rink… I would have loved to play on the ice, but Bine was afraid that someone would overrun me. The weather really wasn’t nice. Mum, you must recognize this tower…. Unfortunately our holiday is over now. Tomorrow we have to drive home… Yours Sean |

Hello mum,
Today we went into the forest. Murph wanted to show us mushrooms that are growing in the winter. Are there really mushrooms? Actually there were some – they are called smoky gilled woodlover - and they are eatable! You know these mushrooms! You often find them in Chinese food. This is a typical mushroom that only grows in the winter time – the velvet food. The forest looked great! Murph watched out for his famous mushrooms. Wow, there they were! Weren’t they beautiful? They are called scarlet elf cup… Also in the wintertime the forest is fascinating. Even a small flower bloomed yet. Greetings Sean |

Hello mum,
today we visited the Park of the Abbey Lamspringe . The Lamme starts here. What a beautiful pond! This sculpture is so funny. Unfortunately the water wheel didn’t work in the winter time. This is the church of the abbey. Really big! Criminals got this ring around their neck in the past – and were in the pillory. What a wonderful park! Many greetings Sean |

Hello mum,
last week we found this mushroom. A sensation! The morel grew much too early. How will it look like today? A morel in the snow – this is funny. You won’t see this often in your life. The winter arrived after all. Can this be right? What do you think? Snow is really beautiful… …and wet… At home we found a cozy hot place, because we had to dry. Until soon Sean |

Hello mum,
today I took a look at the hometown of Murph. Bad Salzdetfurth is an old miningtown. And you find memories of this time everywhere. This is the train station of Bad Salzdetfurth. I have no idea why it is called Kulturbahnhof. There are many half-timbered houses in Bad Salzdetfurth. The Lamme flew through the whole city. There are 2 big salines in the spa gardens. The people used it to produce salt in the past. This is the famous place of Murph. It is called Summstein – you sit inside of it and bumble. Then the whole body prickles. Very funny! Greetings Sean |

Today a new guest arrived. It was Jasper, a moose from Switzerland. We took a long walk in this forest. There were great mushrooms in the forest. I already show it to you. Now I wanted to look, if they grew in the last days. Wow, how beautiful. Did I tell you that I love these mushrooms? This lake was frozen. But we found the spring at a lot of places. The wild arum started to grow. And the snowdrops were blooming. A wonderful day in the forest. Until soon Sean |

Hello Mum,
today we made a short trip to the municipal park Remscheid with its little lake Here is something written about the legend of the so called "Stinthengst", a fish, the king of the stints, who promised the people who caught him sometimes ago, that they will have always enough fish if they set him free again. This saga has its origins in the town of Nikolaiken, a twin town of Remscheid and since 1962 every Year in Mai a huge wooden fish with a crown on his head will be released on this pond. Last Year the wooden fish has been kidnapped, here are some articles to read about his mysterious disappearence Here I show You the Bismarcktower with its astronomical observatory on the top And here You see some impressions of the park and its nice tree population, even when they are without leafs now at the end of wintertime See me playing in the witch hazel From one point we had a nice view over the district of Hasten and we decided to walk there Here we found some nice buildings and came to the House Cleff, an impressive example of a patrician half timbered house in the so called "Bergisch Baroque" See me with the lion head doorknocker Here You see us in front of the backside of the house We had a nice afternoon walk, but now we like to rest here, enjoy sitting on the bench for a while That´s the tour of today, love and see You soon Yours Sean |

Hello Mum,
today we visited the deer-park in Grafenberg (perhaps we´ll meet some other penguins there?) At first we met some of Helmuts wild relatives there Hmm, no penguins here A friendly wooden boar allowed us to sit on him Our next station was the huge free-area of the fallow deer No, even there are no penguine-fellows Although it was very sunny and a little bit warm, the deer laid under the trees and snoozed But the area they have is really nice Here we met a friendly wooden pixie ... wasn´t easy for us solving störte from this appealing lady This was luck: the wildcat was not sleeping, but outside, that´s very seldom And another wooden guy But we were also were here for learning a little bit about the forest here in the "Forest-School" Whaaat?? learning?? Us?? TV´s?? On Sunday?? But strunki promised us it would be fun for us O.K., lets have a look inside A book... with nice pictures This box looks very interesting What would we find inside? Soeren knows this box as well, he´s been there a year ago I feel some stones This mouflon, the badger and the raccoon next to are impressive a boar and a roe deer this lizard was also interesting ..and very colourful ...and lives At the end it became sunnier again and we saw a small herd of red deer This was our sunday-trip (even nice without meeting other penguines) Love and see You soon Yours Sean |

Hello Mum,
today we had a nice hike around the Sengbachdam, situated inbetween Höhrath, Glüder and the castle Schloss Burg We started in Höhrath and found some nice green shuttered houses there and nice blooming bushes And we met a grass frog in his first trip in the warm sunshine Here the path to the dam started and after about one kilometre we saw the first water through the trees The forest here looks very nice and interesting, although there are no leafs A sign reminded us to be mindful with the forest and its habitants Here we are in the near of the dam again Some landscapes here look similar as the alps And here we are on the barrage of the dam itself. It is a reservoire of drinkable water for the town Solingen The path is part of the so called Bergischer Weg and we found the sign for it here Here we rested a little while for playing on the huge roots of this old beech Almost one last hill more upwards And we had an incredible panorama view on Remscheid and Schloss Burg At the end we discovered, that we hiked a distance of about 10 Kilometres. Not bad That was our trip of today, love and see You soon Yours Sean |

Hello Mum,
You never guess where I have been today: The first Photo gives You the impression of a spa park But we are in the Bayer-Park in Leverkusen, one of the hugest chemical regions in Germany The weather this weekend was very warm with about 20°C for the beginning of march and very sunny, so the vegetation looks like in spring now. Look at the almost open magnolia-blossoms Some modern architecture of the Bayer AG And a open view into the park We rested on a bench with interesting lionheads And saw a nice looking white lady standing in a temple Of course we wanted to visit her She gave us the hint to visit a huge red lion The lion told us to visit the famous Japanese Garden here Then we followed his hint and visited the Japanese Garden It was wonderful there, the exotic architecture and the asian style of this garden donated us peaceful feelings of harmony See me under the helleborus And the crocuses Look at the nice red camellia Enjoy the colours and the springtime with us here You can call me cherry-blossom The garden is rather small, but very various with a lot of lovely details We all had a lot of fun here and chilled out the rest of the sunday at home in Helmuts poppy-blossom That was our tour of today, love and see You soon Yours Sean |

It was a really nice day with beautiful weather, so we decided to stop in Calw and take a walk there and also visit the Herrmann Hesse Museum.
Calw is located in the northern Black Forest and is approximately 18 kilometers south of Pforzheim and 33 kilometers west of Stuttgart. It was first mentioned in records in 1075. There are many nice halftimbered houses as you can see in our photos. We saw parts of the original fortifications constructed before 1500 - it was really a small part of it. This is a part of the market place. Some of the photos we already showed above. Then we visited the museum. Hermann Hesse (German: [ˈhɛɐ̯man ˈhɛsə]; 2 July 1877 – 9 August 1962) was a German poet, novelist, and painter. His best-known works include Steppenwolf, Siddhartha, and The Glass Bead Game, each of which explores an individual's search for authenticity, self-knowledge and spirituality. In 1946, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature. |

Then we drove on and soon we arrived in our hotel in Herrenberg, where we planned to stay over night.
|
fam-united Posted Mar 16, 2014, 7:47 pm |
The sun was still shining and it wasn't too cold, so we decided to go on another walk through another town.
Herrenberg is a town in the middle of Baden-Württemberg, about 30 km south of Stuttgart and 20 km from Tübingen. Herrenberg is situated on the western edge of the Schönbuch forest and is a central town within the Gäu region. It was founded in the 13th century. In 1278, Herrenberg was first documentated, although Pfalzgraf Rudolf von Tübingen already wrote in 1228 "castrum nostrum herrenberc" into a certificate. From 1276, the church building was started, which at the time, had two towers. The symbol of the town, the traditional church "Stiftskirche", with its Glockenmuseum (bell museum) in the tower, as well as the "Herrenberger Rathaus" (town hall) and the historical ruins of the castle "Schlossberg", are an attrictive destination for tourists of all over the world. There are guided tours (some in English) as well through the historical buildings of the town. Large sections of the old city wall are still standing (or have been rebuilt) and numerous timber-framed houses fill the "Old Town" surrounding the "Marktplatz" (market place) view to "Stiftskirche" I'm standing on the stairs, which lead to the church. Here we're standing in front of the church looking down on the town. The half timbered houses of Herrenberg are even more beautiful than those in Calw. I loved them and would have liked to stay for a longer time. Then we walked back to the hotel, because we attended a Musical Krimi Dinner there. |

On our way home we drove to Stuttgart and visited the Mercedes Benz Museum. It was the best thing to do with this rainy weather.
The Mercedes-Benz Museum is an automobile museum in Stuttgart, Germany. It covers the history of the Mercedes-Benz brand and the brands associated with it. Stuttgart is home to the Mercedes-Benz brand and the international headquarters of Daimler AG. I've seen something of which my host told me, that it really was a car. With this bus I would have been able to invite a lot of guests and carry them around. We took a look out of the window. It was raining heavily. Team touring coach 1974 After hours in this museum we really were tired and drove home again. It was a great weekend. Greetings, Sean and friends |

today we visited the German Tool-Museum in Remscheid-Hasten Our tour started at the very first times of tools, at the stone-age Look at me working with the stone-axe Here we are at the bronce-age. The first tools made of metal instead of stone And here we see antique tools And finally tools of the middle age A small smithy in old manner, nothing changed for a very long time Here are other examples for old craftsmen workshops manufacturing tools and use tools therefore itsself Here You see the three areas of tool industry in Germany: Remscheid, Schmalkalden and Stuttgart The work of a filemaker was very hard The discovery of transmission made many hard works much more easier for the people Here You see the huge wheel of a steam engine And here we see some examples of different tools made in Remscheid and the Bergisch Land Lots of boy-toys there There we sit on a time stamp clock, so the workers were controlled that they are at work in time Here You see a part of a metalfoundry and one product: A bell A lot of fun we had in the section where the metaltubes were made The next stations were also interesting: World trade of tools. They shipped them all over the world Nice examples of older tools and a view around the museum from the first floor down to the ground floor Here we can anticipate, how it was to live in the neighbourhood of the work And even outside we found some nice examples of courious machines What´s this? A Plushie-pressing-machine?? I don´t know... This was our tip of today, love and see You soon Yours Sean |

Hello Mum,
today we walked the Fruitpath in Leichlingen Although the weather was not the finest (it rained at the beginning), we decided to continue, because we hoped to see the fruittrees blooming It´s a nice landscape with hills full of gras and a lot of appletrees, peachtrees, cherrytrees and else fruit trees. The region here is famous in the Bergisch Land for the good fruit growing, because even its in a hign altitude, the mild climate of the valley of the river rhine supports the growing here. But not only fruitflowers we found, look at this nice "forget-me-not" [Myosotis arvensis] Here are some of the fruitblossoms we came for There we met a flock of sheep and look at the lamb, isn´t it nice? Here are some farmhouses See us playing and having fun in the chaff Passing Leysiefen What a nice walk we had This was my day, love and see You soon Yours Sean |

Hello Mum,
You remember our tour with the suspension railway in Wuppertal a few weeks ago? Today we discovered one district called Barmen Behind me You can see one station of the railway in old style, called "Werther Brücke" Here is the main road, a part of the A-road B7, called "Höhne" Here between the houses we start our tour through the pedestrian zone Woow, a penguine We had a little conversation and he told me that he´s the mascot of the eponymos pharmacy A lot of houses were destroyed in WWII, but some survived the bombing See this funny and colourful penguines This is the formerly "Hall of fame" , built at the end of the 19th. century. Now its "the house of the youth" and sometimes bands playing there. Here we play with 3 huge bronce turtles. They have their home in the pedestrian zone and are very popular, almost by the kids who want to sit on them. This is the town-hall of barmen, built in the late 20ths of the 20th century And bronce-animals again, but much older, here as colums of large lanterns A bronce spring with lots of typical elements of the textile-industry of Wuppertal some hundred years ago. The valley formerly was called "Manchester of the north" Look, another penguin again And we met "Tuffi" He is very famous here, in the 50ths he jumped out of the suspension railway and fell into the Wupper. Nothing seriously happend to him and a penguin once again This huge place is called "Alter Markt" (Old Market) Penguins everywhere in this town... A last view into the pedestrian zone, the street is called "Werth" This sign shows the distances between Wuppertal and its twintowns A lion, the heraldic animal of the Bergisch Land There our little tour ended and we had a lot of fun This was my day, love and see You soon Yours Sean |

Today I visited the "Landesgartenschau" (Horticultural show). Most of the time I spent at the beautiful lake!

I decided to visit France, because I have never been there.
First I wanted to go to Paris, but I read a lot about France in a book and after this I preferred to visit the Côte d'Azur. Two whole weeks for adventure and relaxing. I loved the countryside and these tiny villages were so cute! |

In August I spent some time in beautiful Wales. I really enjoyed the countryside, can't stop looking at the pix! But the villages have really strange names here, like Blaenau Ffestiniog or Tanybwlch! And I visited the village with the longest single word domain name in the world: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyll-llantysiliogogogoch. After trying to speak that name I had tons of knots in my tongue! I wondered how big are their envelopes? Really confusing!

I'm back to France for 2 weeks. I think I like that country, even that I don't understand what they are talking about...
Today I visited Aigues-Mortes which is a French commune in the Gard department in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. The medieval city walls surrounding the city are well preserved. And they had a lot of nice stores! I liked that! Can you see me on the pictures? I wanted to show you so much in every pictures. I forgot that I'm a little bit smaller... Sean |

The next stop on my tour in the south of France was a village called La Grand-Motte. It is a popular seaside resort and port, built in the 1960s and 1970s. La Grande-Motte is characterized by homogeneous architecture; many of the prominent buildings are pyramidal in form. With 2 million tourists per year it is one of the favorite resorts of the French.
I saw so many building on my last stop so this time I went to the beach! Sean |

The next stop was Palavas-les-Flots. It was really wet. It lies on a strip of sand dunes that separates two lakes, the Étang de l'Arnel and the Étang du Méjean, from the sea.
There I met some really nice guys: flamingos! They invited me to there group, but my legs were too short. On the other side there was the stormy sea. Well, I think I don't stay here... Sean |

This is my last day in the south of France. This little village is called Mèze. Situated on the étang de Thau, Mèze shares with Bouzigues its historic role as the oyster capital of the area. Almost a third of its inhabitants depend on the fishing industry for their livelihood. In recent years, tourism and transport have become increasingly central to the local economy.
I saw lots of boats and a pirate! I should go back home! Sean |

Let me tell you something about the city I'm living with my host at the moment! As I had some guests I decided that it was time for some sightseeing in Cologne.
First we visited the most famous sight: the Cathedral! Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is a Roman Catholic cathedral. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Cologne and the administration of the Archdiocese of Cologne. It is a renowned monument of German Catholicism and Gothic architecture and is a World Heritage Site. The cathedral is Germany's most visited landmark, attracting an average of 20,000 people and 5 Toyvoyagers a day. The construction of Cologne Cathedral commenced in 1248 and was halted in 1473, leaving it unfinished. Work restarted in the 19th century and was completed, to the original plan, in 1880. It is 144.5 metres (474 ft) long, 86.25 m (283.0 ft) wide and its towers are approximately 157 m (515 ft) tall. The cathedral is the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe and has the second-tallest spires. Its two huge spires give it the largest façade of any church in the world. The choir has the largest height to width ratio, 3.6:1, of any medieval church. Then we had a view over their famous river: the Rhine. It is a European river and the second longest river in Central and Western Europe. It is about 1,230 km (760 mi) in length. Sometimes when my host is in town for some shopping I go to the river to swim a little bit. It is cold, I like that! This is the Hohenzollern Bridge which is crossing the river Rhine. It is the most heavily used railway bridge in Germany. But that's not the reason why it is famous. Most interesting thing is the decorations! Since 2008 people have placed love padlocks on the fence between the footpath and the railway lines. Sean |

This morning my guests left Cologne and went back home.
I hope enjoyed their big journey! Last thing to do with them was saying goodbye and hugging my brothers Alex and Squab! Next time I will offer them again a lovely sightseeing tour. Sean |
