Hi Mummy,
I arrived at my first host's home today. Baby_Pom_Fimble was happy to meet her Mum Katja.

Two other ToyVoyagers, Aslan and Snakey were also there to give us a warm welcome.

Three ferrets are living here.l They are extremely curious :)

The weather here in North Rhine-Westpahlia is really bad, we all hope that it will get better soon.

Hi Mummy,
the weather is still ugly here with lots of rain. Nontheless my host Katja decided that we would take a walk. The first photos were taken in the vicinity of my current home. I am living in one of the older parts of the city, which were not destroyed or damaged in World War II.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7030/6742275723_4a5f518309_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7149/6742276319_2593cceb7b_o.jpg

We went to a woodland area. There is a creek in the valley, usually a really narrow one.  It is carrying much more water than usual.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7150/6742276583_7d5c3d24fd_o.jpg

These rain detention basins are usually empty, now they are filled. (It is raining for about six weeks now.)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7168/6742276855_3d62162def_o.jpg

We were happy when we reached our home.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7011/6742277077_1528e567b1_o.jpg

Later we watched Katja's daughter prepare a torte. Her boyfriend is celebrating his birthday today, she is going to take it to the birthday party. She made a torte with cream, chocolate cream and strawberries.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7006/6742277341_6c70e3b9a3_o.jpg

She prepared the chocolate cream with egg yolk, butter and melted chocolate.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7175/6742277581_5eeeedb705_o.jpg

First the layers of the torte were filled with strawberry jam, than there is a layer of whipped cream and finally the chocolate cream.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7033/6742277761_2830a19346_o.jpg

Than the torte was decoreated with more cream, strawberries and chocolate hearts.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7151/6742277945_2fa7f5ba5b_o.jpg

It's looking good, isn't it?

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7020/6742278453_601a55fd71_o.jpg

Maybe I will manage to hide in her bag, so I could also go to the birthday party and taste the torte.

Hi Mummy,
we took a short today in Remscheid. It took not long to leave the city centre, soon we reached a large allotment garden area. You can see that there is a lot of woodland and rural areas around. Paradise for a dog :)

Hi Mummy,
in the morning we took a walk with Katja and two of her friends. Katja promised me that I would see Muengsten Bridge, Germany's highest railway bridge. We went into the forest where we found a rock with engraved artwork: A puddle oracle! Unfortunately a frozen oracle does not work :)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7154/6781920941_6ff9023619_o.jpg

There is an outlook pavilion high above the valley of the river Wupper. You have a good overlook across the valley of the river Wupper with Muengsten Bridge.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7156/6781921135_bb2a1dd994_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7170/6781921333_7d1dd391ea_o.jpg

There are rocks along our path, little waterfalls running down everywhere.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7157/6781917327_1261c0fbb1_o.jpg

We went downhill than towards the river.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7164/6781921541_5f9a373d8e_o.jpg

We found more rocks with engraved patterns, a tabletop game this time, nine men's morris.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7167/6781921701_3787cd5961_o.jpg

In the meantime we crossed the river and walked back towards Muengsten Bridge. This side of the river bank is really steep, rocks and steep slopes.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7171/6781921971_ae1e6e43cf_o.jpg

We reached the leisure park underneath the bridge than. The bridge was built in early 20th century, finished in 1906 A.D. It is 107 m high, overspanning the valley of the river Wupper which is marking the border between Remscheid and the neighbour city Solingen. It is about 480 m long. There will be extended repar and restoration works in the coming years.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7034/6781922155_e81b74a02d_o.jpg

When the weather is good lots of kids are playing here in the shallow river, Katja told us. After six weeks with heavy rainfall the Wupper is not a shallow river any more.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7161/6781922383_2d53d2ce4b_o.jpg

This was a very interesting trip today.

Hi Mummy,
today we visited a medieval castle in the neighbour City Solingen, Schloss Burg, It is situated high upon a hill above the River Wupper.

We went into the courtyard and found a lovely half-timbered part of the castle.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7142/6797394323_66abaf8a9e_o.jpg

Schloss Burg was built in 1133 by Count Adolf I von Berg on a hill above the river Wupper. That's why this region is called "Bergisches Land". Many people believe that it's name refers to the landscape with hills and valleys. (For those who do not speak German: The German word for mountain or hill is "Berg", so many people think that the name "Bergisches Land" means "land with many hills" )

About a hundred years later it was enlarged by Count Engelberg II von Berg. This is the guy on the horse in the courtyard.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7020/6797394677_dbf0a0f9ef_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7029/6797394949_9de02313e9_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7030/6797395127_6bbc1f5255_o.jpg

In Thirty Years War (17th century) large parts of the castle were destroyed. It was rebuilt then, but it was used for industrial purposes for many years. In the end of the 19th century they began to rebuild it as it appears today.

In the castle courtyard you can find souvenir shops and shops whose owners are doing an "old" handcraft, for example handmade brushes, brooms, soap, lovely yarns and wooden knitting needles, toys like swords and helmets and much more.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7144/6797395727_b9e6a52bab_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7163/6797374095_bcba2fb705_o.jpg

You can overlook the valley between Remscheid and Solingen from this high point.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7015/6797395393_99ab1519ea_o.jpg

Here you can see the castle from a distance.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7144/6797395727_b9e6a52bab_o.jpg

We found a "twin" of the outlook pavilion which I showed you on Sunday, it was created by the same architect.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7141/6797396479_cb8e86a23b_o.jpg

And here is the fantastic overview :)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7028/6797396751_0825b9684e_o.jpg

We made a side-trip to the concrete wall of a nearby drinking water dam, there are repair works taking place at the moment.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7012/6797396951_57d1b2cd70_o.jpg

We walked back to the car through a rural hamlet clalled "Höhrath", they have many livery stables here and a sawmill.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7033/6797397449_c081069007_o.jpg

From now on I was hiding in Katja's pocket - it was soooo cold outside.

Hi Mummy,
we visited Hückeswagen today, a small town in the "Oberbergisches Land", about 18 km apart from Remscheid. We went there to take a friend's daughter to a riding stable. Hückeswagen is embedded in a rural landscape.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7023/6842782147_ffa338879f_o.jpg

We also went to the the town centre of Hückeswagen, a lovely old town.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7209/6870896549_2cc06b0176_o.jpg

They have a castle here, the municipality is situated in it.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7154/6842782449_73d869e195_o.jpg

When we walked back to the river Wupper we saw this tiny house with the working fireman.

Hi Mummy,
today we took a walk in the late afternoon in the city centre. We walked along the "Route of Tools" (Trasse des Werkzeugs), a former railway track, now built to a lane for pedestrians and cyclists. This lane is following the former freight train track from the central station to the district Hasten, many industrial companies were situated along this track, some are still nowadays.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7036/6858160189_8d583745cc_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7039/6858160377_b00b2edc9a_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7045/6858160581_a2759b72fd_o.jpg

We found a resting area, you can find some seats here (it was too cold to sit longer than 30 seconds on the metal bench).

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7186/6858187815_a6903e5e42_o.jpg

The lane was sponsored by local companies, mostly tool producing companies - that's why it is called "Route of Tools". Remscheid is famous for its tool producing industry for centuries. You can find large signs with the logos of the sponsoring companies.

This is the former slaughterhouse, the whole complex is under monument protection nowadays.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7180/6858160811_a8ac93a6fd_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7187/6858160981_838142f496_o.jpg

The closer we came towards Hasten, the more the lane seemed to be a park or a walking path in a forest.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7064/6858161249_9f502c456b_o.jpg

I found those funny wrench patterns, stamped into the tarmac.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7179/6858161599_d955e9f16b_o.jpg

We left the Route of Tools and went home through the municipal park.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7048/6858161925_9cbc53c478_o.jpg

This monument is dedicated to the dead of several wars which took place before WW I.

Hi Mummy,
today we met friends to take a longer hiking tour to the neighbour town Wuppetal. We planned to visit the Wuppertal Brewhouse. A brewhouse - like all Bavarians I LOVE brewhouses :D :D :D

First we had to walk towards the valley between Remscheid and Wuppertal, it is called "Morsbachtal", like the creek (Morsbach) running through it. It seems that all the water on earth's surface was frozen.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7050/6864162115_bee7888c2b_o.jpg

This is the Morsbach (Morsbach creek).

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7199/6864162715_5f4e28c179_o.jpg

This pond in front of an historic industrial site is also frozen.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7064/6864163021_d44bdf2203_o.jpg

This cute little house was restored in the last years, Katja told me.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7202/6864163319_229f91e49d_o.jpg

Than we had to climb from the bottom of the valley towards Wuppertal-Cronenberg. Can you see the city centre of Remscheid on the hill in background? We started our trip there :)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7057/6864163613_2342ee980d_o.jpg

This is a typical German garden :D

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7177/6864164317_139a132eb4_o.jpg

From now we walked along the "Sambatrasse", also a former railway track, following a route though the forest from Wuppertal-Cronenberg to the zoo quarter in Wuppertal.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7055/6864164653_237b2d73ea_o.jpg

This historic train is placed here.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7036/6864165435_297b577de6_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7069/6864166169_cbf1874800_o.jpg

An incinerator is also situated at the Sambatrasse.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7045/6864166531_e38f16ccb7_o.jpg

This is an access road to the A46 motorway.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7064/6864166803_8ba112dc74_o.jpg

We left the Sambatrasse in the zoo quarter. You can find lots of beautiful mansions here.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7037/6864167221_1061dc05a0_o.jpg

In the background you can see the touristc highlight of Wuppertal - the Schwebebahn, a suspension railway. It travels along a route of 13.3 kilometres (8.3 mi), at a height of about 12 metres (39 ft 4 in) above the river Wupper. At some places it is crossing streets, even the motorway A46.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7201/6864167667_80e4ca80c7_o.jpg

An historic train, the so-called Kaiserwagen, is leaving the station.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7043/6864167973_4d45903145_o.jpg

Inside a station ...

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7037/6864168423_072423a271_o.jpg

Here you can see the city hall of the district Wuppertal-Barmen.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7051/6864168839_7b933e2638_o.jpg

The brewhouse is situated close to the city hall, just behind it.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7062/6864169245_24c54699c4_o.jpg

We were really thirsty, so we ordered large beers immediately.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7203/6864169729_dd52e7d2b3_o.jpg

The brewhouse is a former public swimming bath which was in use from 1882 until it was closed in 1993. The brewhouse was opened in the the rebuilt complex in 1997. You can find photos of the former swimming bath here, you have to click the "Historie"-button in the top row.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7189/6864171045_af6393e821_o.jpg

Yummy!

We went home than by train.

Hi Mummy,
we took a short walk in the city centre today, first we had a look at the city hall. There is a large open space in front of it, the market place. You can find a pillar here with the heraldic animal of Remscheid, a lion.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7210/6781821746_33b51cd156_o.jpg

This is the water tower. The whole inner city is provided with drinking water from this tower. The water is pumped from a dam in a valley of Remscheid to this tower.

This is the central bus station.

Hey, where am I?

I was on walk with my host olgamaus.

I just wanted to see, what's around the next corner. olgamaus didn't realise, that I was walking around. Now I can't find her  :(.

Now I'm on my own adventure. Maybe I find my way home. If you see me, just help me and write a little post here. My mummy misses me, for sure.

Hi Mummy,
I just want to let you know that I'm fine.

In Winter I fell out of Katja's pocken and got lost for a whle. I was straying around with a cat, hopped on a train, found new friends,  until I finally found my way back to Remscheid. Now I am looking around for somebody who looks like a TV host.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7090/7279808694_68122fcb6c_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8021/7279808538_ab333250fa_o.jpg

Nobody who looked like a TV host came by, so I walked a bit around, searching for another nice place for waiting.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8158/7248107304_fb76048261_o.jpg

Suddenly I heard someone talking and a big green nose came closer ... A dragon!

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7224/7248080950_8256af1f9e_o.jpg

A dragon? Is it normal that a dragon is here in Germany? Rather NO!
What does it mean? Maybe the dragon is a ToyVoyager? I tried to talk to him, but he already hurried away with some other ... ToyVoyagers?!

At least I know that there is ToyVoyager-life in Remscheid! Now I will have even closer looks around!

Hi Mummy,
I was still waiting for someone who could help me find my host Katja, in the district Hasten this time. We took some walks here, so maybe ...

Suddenly a teddy bear was sitting next to me ...

...and also a little dinosaur with a ToyVoyager-tag!!!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8025/7279767086_7607e30f47_o.jpg

Finally I was found!

Katja was also happy that I was still here in Remscheid. She had a guilty conscience because she thought that she'd lost me in winter. This happended because I was a bit too curious :

Nontheless we walked around for some time.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8145/7279809458_085b2a2d41_o.jpg

We met a flock of sheep, the sheep were waitingfor their sheep-shearing.

Now I'd like to come home to Munich for a while. Or maybe travelling is even better .... ?

Hey,

today we went to the "Margarethenhöhe" - a part of Essen.

Here you have the informations that wikipedia has about it:
Gartenstadt Margarethenhöhe: Founded by Margarethe Krupp in 1906, the garden city with its 3092 units in 935 buildings on an area of 115 ha (284.2 acres) (of which 50 ha are woodland) is considered the first of its kind in Germany. All buildings follow the same stylistic concept, with slight variations for each one. Although originally designed as an area for the lower classes with quite small flats, the old part Margarethenhöhe I has developed into a middle class residential area and housing space has become highly sought after. A new part, Margarehenhöhe II, was built in the 1960s and 1970s but is architecturally inferior and especially the multi-storey buildings are still considered social hot spots.

We made some photos to show you how it looks there.

Today we went to a concert with BlackCat. On the way to the concert we found some flowers and made photos with them.
At the concert we weren't allowed to take photos, I am sorry.

The Kennedyplatz. In December you can find the Christmas market here, from January to March an ice rink and all the other times sometimes other things. This time it was empty as you can see.

Hey,

today I said Goodbye to Meggie and started my travel to my next destination.

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x377/toyvoyagersfriend/2012/September/25/2509_0.jpg

BlackCat is sorry that there weren't that much updates. She had a rough time and a lot of stress and whenever she went away she didn't have us with her. And she is sorry that the updates are late!

Have a great day,
Mini-Woof
