Dear Mom,

I arrived in Bruchsal right after my host came back from Sweden. Now I'm sitting here knowing, that she has only a little time for me. I'm somehow disappointed, but I hope to see some places of Bruchsal and show you the beautiful palace.

Best wishes,

Hello Mum,

today I arrived in Karlsruhe. Just I have slipped of my envelope. I am glad about the time with host-mum.
The weather here in Karlsruhe is not good, today it was very cold and foggy.

I was welcomed very friendly by Anton and Bär Schär. Bär Schär pays attention during my time here to me.
In my envelope was still another TV... Robby.

I am curious sometimes what I will experience here.

Best regards Xiaoxia

When we were at home again, we needed some time to relax, because it was a long travel. But today we had to go to Karlsruhe.

Karlsruhe is the third largest city of Baden-Württemberg, near the Franco-German border.

Karlsruhe was founded in 1715 as Karlsruhe Palace, when Germany was a series of principalities and city-states. The town surrounding the Palace became the seat of two of the highest courts in Germany, the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany (Bundesverfassungsgericht) whose decisions have the force of a law in many cases, and the Federal Court of Justice of Germany (Bundesgerichtshof), the highest court of appeals in matters of civil law and criminal law. It therefore considers itself the home of justice in Germany, a role taken over from Leipzig after 1945.

Washington's city planner, had been given the plans of Karlsruhe (among numerous other European cities) as an inspiration.

At first we visited the Bothnical Garden.

I really waited for this day. I wished to see more of Bruchsal and finally we went out to go to the sightseeing places.

Bruchsal has about 42 000 inhabitants, if you also count those in the five suburbs, which are Heidelsheim, Helmsheim, Untergrombach, Obergrombach and Büchenau. It was first mentioned in 796 A.D., but there had been an older settlement. 80 % of Bruchsal had been destroyed during World War II. on 1rst of March 1945. So you hardly find really old places.

Here you see the tower of the old part of Bruchsal's hospital. In the building you find different doctors. The hospital is in a newer part.

Hello mum,

host-mum worked in the last time so much, therefore, I could not contact up to now yet.

A new TV also came with us. Viola the small bear. She was already once with host-mum, because she has liked it so well, now she is there again.

Yesterday she has taken time for us (Robby, Viola an me) and we have decorated the flat for Christmas.

It has made us to all a lot of jokes. Many coloured lights.... this looks so nice!

The Turmberg (German: "Tower Hill") is a hill (elevation: 256 m) located in Durlach, a suburb of Karlsruhe in Germany. It is home to a castle ruin.

The Turmberg can be reached by the Turmbergbahn, a funicular railway. The original railway used water to weight the rail cars, but now it is run on electric.

wikipedia

This is written on the sign:
This tower is the remain of the ancient castle, which was built by Count von Hohenberg during the 1100s, extended during the 1200s and destroyed by Konrad von Lichtenberg, bishop of Strasbourg in 1279 A.D.
This tower was built between 1230 A.D. and 1250 A.D.

Just turning on your heels you can see the interesting building of Bruchsal's prison. The prison, constructed ca. 1848, is nicknamed the Cafe with Eight Corners or "Cafe Achteck". Today it is a high security institution and predominantly houses individuals convicted of violent crimes and convicted terrorists, such as members of the Red Army Faction.

Schloss Bruchsal is one of the most beautiful Baroque palaces in Germany and the only episcopal Baroque residence on the Upper Rhine. The foundation stone was laid in 1722 by Cardinal Damian Hugo von Schönborn, Prince Bishop of Speyer, who made the palace the centre of his absolutist dominion.
After being almost completely destroyed in the final days of World War II, the main tract was painstakingly reconstructed according to the original design and work was completed in 1975, including the magnificent dome, Marble Hall and Prince's Hall. The staircase designed by Balthasar Neumann is considered to be an architectural tour-de-force and has been described as the "finest staircase in the world".

Back part of the palace, first photo with the tower of the church St. Damian and Hugo, which sadly isn't baroque anymore.

The Belvedere on the edge of the "Stadtgarten" was built by Leonhard Stahl in 1756 as a hunting lodge for Prince Bishop Franz Christoph von Hutten. The location was chosen so that the lodge would command an unspoiled view of the palace, town and Rhine rift valley beyond.

Especially worthy of note are the two towers, each of which has a viewing platform topped with a Chinese-style baldachin – an example of the fashion for chinoiserie prevalent at that time. Today, the Belvedere is used as a venue for concerts and theatre productions.

You hardly might believe it, but it is already one month, that I had been out of the house. My host had been way too busy with the start of the new schoolyear. She only worked and worked and worked and I felt as if she had forgotten, that I'm still there. And now? What a surprise! I will go on another walk through Bruchsal together with Hömpfmömpf. My host told me to help her with showing nice places to Hömpfmömpf and to explain important things and she promissed me to take different photos with me than the ones before. Of course some just were taken on the same place.

Here we are in the palace garden. There is a nice pond with ducks.

two new TV came to host-mum. Zebra fr Hansen and Brook. We have well got on right away. The receipt was kind. I feel fine here properly.
The Christmas lighting has done it to me. Therefore, I have immediately hidden in the sledge as we had played hide and seek.

Unfortunately, Santa Clause does not come this year to host-mum, because she must work.

However, for it we go on Friday to Strasbourg, France. This becomes also nice absolutely.

Hello mum,

yesterday, we haven't gone to Strasbourg. It was the purest snow chaos in the streets. In addition, host mum is ill. We have postponed it until next week on Wednesday now.

We had nevertheless much fun. Since it has snowed so incredibly, we have a snowball fight made, a snowman built at once and zebra fr Hansen has his first ski attempts behind itself. He of course has fallen just to, however, hasn't hurt himself fortunately.

After that we have warmed ourselves up in the apartment. Host mum has built up a hayrack, this one looks really terrific!

Hello mum,

today we (host-mums parent, here sister and her boyfriend, Zebra fr Hansen, Viola, Robby, Brook) were  in Strasbourg on the Christmas fair.
It was wonderful. Everywhere it smelt of mulled wine, cinnamon, carnations, waffles, little cookies...

We have sauntered through the small lanes, have eaten something and have drunk.

We were also in the Strasbourger dome, but, unfortunately, there one was not allowed to fotograph. This would have become absolutely great pictures.

After we were again at home, we have celebrated resignation of Robby and me. It was nice here in Karlsruhe.

On the 24th of december austrians celebrate christmas. There is a relation to religion. This is the day where jesus was born. In the daytime my hostmum decorated the christmas tree with christmas tree balls, stars made from straw, sweets (enveloped in coloured paper) and candles. The parents tell their children that the christ child has brought the christmas tree and put a lot of presents under the tree . Children are always very excited on christmas eve and they are looking arround and hope to see the christ child flying arround the house.  :cyclops:

Today we drove to Ulm and took some photos on the way. It was a bit difficult to take sharp photos, because it was too dark. The photos by night are from Stuttgart. We've seen the big wheel, but it is also a blurry photo. And you can see the small bridge, that leads you to the Wilhelma.

Here we are close to Geisslingen.

We've seen the Cathedral of Ulm in the far.

On our way home it was getting darker and darker, so there are only a few photos, which are a bit better. Nevertheless it is what we've seen, when we drove and drove and drove.

Here's the blurry photo with the big wheel in Stuttgart. Stuttgart is the main city of Baden-Württemberg.

Today is a sad day. We received the news, that a good toyvoyager friend died of cancer. We went to the church St. Peter and prayed for her and her family. So here aren't many words, but only photos.

Then we walked over the graveyard, which is next to the church.

Then we walked back home again. Here we see the backside of the house called Santa Maria.

The graveyard is rather steep, so difficult to walk for older people.

The institute Santa Maria was opened in 1908. At first it was a church-social institution. Since 1981 it became a private school for social pedagogy.

I had been allowed to join Petra on her trip with her colleagues. She still thinks, that it is somehow funny, when she takes photos of toyvoyagers - that's what she says. Can you believe it? I can't. Here we are in front of the castle. Bergzabern Schloss is a landmark in the town of Bad Bergzabern, located in the old town centre. Formerly the residence of the Dukes of Pfalz-Zweibrücken, it now houses the administrative functions of the local government of Bad Bergzabern.

We walked a while and then came through this small village with these beautiful half-timbered houses.

We've also visited a shop, but we haven't bought anything.

Today some of us were allowed to join Petra and her sister, when they drove to Stuttgart, which is the main town of Baden-Württemberg. They went on a concert, which was the final of a hit show, which a famous German radio station (SWR1) had organized a few weeks before.
Here I stay in front of the Mercedes Benz Arena, but the concert was in a hall called Schleyerhalle.

My host's son started to study in Ulm and so he needs a room, where he can sleep. Because it was so difficult to find a place, my host decided to drive to Ulm and stay there for two nights to help him. She had the car, so it was easier to drive from house to house.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8096/8377003253_904c358376.jpg

We had a nice, but most of the time foggy view to the Ulm Minster - cathedral.

Ulm is a city in the federal German state of Baden-Württemberg, situated on the River Danube. Ulm was founded around 850, is rich in history and traditions as a former Free Imperial City (German: freie Reichsstadt). Today, it is an economic centre due to its varied industries, and it is the seat of a university (University of Ulm, founded in 1967).

In the afternoon we had time for a sightseeing tour. This is a Lutheran church called Pauluskirche. At first we thought, that it is a gate. The church was built between 1908 and 1910, so it is younger than we thought it is.

Inside the church it is rather dark, so it was really difficult to take nice photos - they are just terribly dark.

Then we visited the catholic church Saint George. I really liked the colours and paintings.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8362/8380641279_5d104db960.jpg

We walked through Herrenkellergasse. At the corner to Rabengasse we found these nice old houses and had a nice view to the steeple of the Minster.

Internationally, Ulm is primarily known for having the church with the tallest steeple in the world (161.53 m (529.95 ft) high and 768 steps)., the Gothic minster (Ulm Minster, German: Ulmer Münster) built 1377-1891.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8212/8381717214_417585c4aa.jpg

The Rathaus (Town Hall) was built in 1370, featuring some brilliantly-coloured murals dating from the mid-16th century. On the gable is an astronomical clock dating from 1520. Restored after serious damage in 1944.

The old Fischerviertel (fishermen's quarter) on the River Blau, with half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets, and picturesque footbridges is fascinating. An interesting sight here is the Schiefes Haus(crooked house), a 16th-century house today used as a hotel.

According to legend, construction of the spire of the Ulm Munster was halted while only halfway completed when a wagon carrying a large wooden beam - loaded sideways - arrived at the narrow city gate. After contemplating how best to proceed, the mayor of Ulm gave the order to tear down part of the city wall, but before the order was carried our, a sparrow-like bird was observed maneuvering a long twig into its nest - lengthwise! Following the lead of the sparrow, the beam was turned, the wagon passed through the narrow gate, work was resumed, the cathedral was completed, and the legend of the Ulmer Spätze was born.

At last we walked down to the river Danube and enjoyed the sunset.

Hi!
The grandmother of my hostmum Claudia invited us for lunch. We went to her by car.. It was snowing during the previous night so it was a bit dangerous to drive ;) but Claudia did it well :D

http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa423/dani_claudia/IMG_3444_zps9d1dba37.jpg

I was pleased  :D but Claudia not because she had to drive 65 kilometers. Normally she takes about 1hour but this day we took 3hours. It was a crazy adventuresome drive  :D!
