Hello world, I am Hemming, the little wolf
in sheep's clothing. Sniffing is one of my passions, besides coffee and sweets. And of course sleep. Since I talked to my sister Angeli and our guests, I would like to travel. If someone out there wants a small wolf the opportunity to see the world, my mom writes. Hopefully your Hemming |

Hello
Last weekend I made my first trip. I went with mom, dad, my sister, Angeli, and my friends Fiete, Lola, Carolin, Salmonella and Sausi Karl to Rhine Falls in Neuhausen. We parked at the Schloss Laufen. Through the old castle gate we entered the courtyard with its battlements and arrow slits. The thundering Rhine Falls was good to hear. Over a staircase we came closer and closer to the waterfall. I have never seen so much water. Later we visited an exhibition of antique furniture. I felt like a king. On the way home we saw huge pumpkins and nibbled on grapes. I love to travel Hemming |

HiHo
Yesterday my mum has started her new job. So we were alone at home. First we had a little boring but then we had a great idea. We play Pirates of the Caribbean. In the kitchen and in the office, we found everything we needed. Chopsticks, trivets, plastic bowls, paper and glue. A pirate flag we printed on the computer. It was hard work, but it was worth it. We had lot of fun. The bathroom was a bit under water but only a bit, honorable word. until then Hemming |

Hi
Today we went to Einsiedeln. Einsiedeln is a small town in the canton of Schwyz, and known for its baroque church and the Black Madonna. It is also a place of pilgrimage on the Camino. Unfortunately, the photograph is not allowed in the monastery church. Mum is looking online for a picture, the church is really beautiful, you could not tell by the weather, it was foggy, wet and cold. With hot chestnuts, we warmed up a bit. Then we visited the ski jump. It is a plastic covered jump and is used for summer training. Even the students of the high school sports train here. At home mum has made a special dinner - Raclette. Melted cheese with potatoes, cucumbers, onions, sweet and sour homemade pumpkin and more. It tasted wonderful. See you Hemming |

Hello
This morning we found a well-known envelope on the table. With an address on it. Curious, we tried to figure out where things are headed, and above all who is going to travel. Fiete is the lucky one, he can travel to Finland. At first we were all a bit sad Fiete is leaving us, but we were happy for him too. I had to distract him at the computer, while the other have baked a farewell cake. Fiete enjoyed immensely. Then he was allowed to fill his belly with fruit. You never know how long the journey lasts. Then he packed up his cap, in Finland it can be very cold, a few sweets and a card of mum. We gave him a big group hug and he slipped into his envelope. We will miss him. Bye, bye Fiete, bon voyage, and bye, bye for today Hemming |
Jasper Posted Oct 2, 2012, 2:51 pm |
Hello Hemming's here,
we had not much time to be sad because Fiete is gone. As mum came from the post she brought a new envelope. As always, we were a bit curious, really just a little bit. Our new guest called Nils and has traveled from Finland. It took a long time, mum had been worried. But now he is here and we have warmly welcomed him. He is glad to be free again and ready for new adventures with us. Best regards, Hemming |

Hi together,
Today the weather was beautiful and we visited St.Iddaburg. This is a prime vantage point overlooking the Bodensee. In addition, here is a sanctuary. The church we were not able to visit because a wedding was taking place. Best of luck! The pilgrimage church of St. Iddaburg located where the old Toggenburg in the Middle Ages, the family seat of the Counts of Toggenburg stood. Here lived in the middle of the 12th Century came from the wider audience of Habsburg Idda, wife of IV Diethelm of Toggenburg. With the Lourdes Grotto, builded 1888, and the Black Madonna in the church, St. Iddaburg is also a popular place of pilgrimage. We stopped at a small fountain and a playground. On the way back we saw a Harley, and we could not resist. We had to sit on it. Born to be wild!! Wish all a nice weekend Hemming |

Hello world,
after my morning coffee I found one of those envelopes on the table. After I sniffed him extensively, I knew that is for me. Mum told me that I can travel to Remscheid. That's in Germany. I immediately searched my things together. Enough sweets, you never know. My mug. Mum said, the coffee cup must stay here. It may break and my host mum has coffee cups too. Okay, even a postcard from home and then it can go. A little, little bit sad I said goodbye to my friends. After a group hug I crawled into my envelope. I'm on my way. See you Hemming |

Hi Mummy,
I arrived in Remscheid today. My host Katja and four more ToyVoyagers gave me a warm welcome. My new friends are MiniMarshmallow, Emma Squirrel, HolgiHH and FerdiFuchs. They were delighted that I brought so many delicious sweets with me In the afternoon Katja took me out for a walk. There is a nice playground in the vicinity of my current home. We picked up a friend who wanted to go with us. While Katja waited for her friend I met a nice .... dinner? (Katja told me that the friend's birds will not be my dinner.) A circus is in town. The city centre of Remscheid is situated on top of a hill. To reach the surrounding woodland you have to walk downhill for at least 20 minutes. This means the way back will be uphill .... Katja told me that you can often find historic factory buildings close to dwellings here, especially in the surrounding valleys. They have lovely half-timbered houses here! Walking uphill ... Here are allotment gardens. Only two more steep streets uphill ... Finally we reached the municipal parkwith its pond. Duckies ... also good for dinner. Again I was not allowed to get me my own dinner. This is the police headquarter, close to the municipal park. I am really tired now, from all this walking. Let's see what tomorrow will bring! Love Hemming |

Hi Mummy,
I helped Katja to make pancakes today. She's using a receipe that is used in a restaurant where here daughter was working as a cook. Those pancakes are delicious with both a sweet and savoury stuffing. You need 6 eggs, 200 ml milk or milk/water, 200 g wheat flour, some salt. Mix everything and let it rest for 15 minutes. Preheat a little bit oil in a pan and fill in dough. In the meantime I was playing with MiniMarshmallow and suddenly some furry animals were visiting us. Cats? No, not cats, ferrets! There are even three of them, but Shiva seemed to be asleep in her bed. The pile of pancakes went higher and higher. Later I had one of them stuffed with tomatoe and cheese. Yummy! Bye Hemming |

Hi Mummy,
today we took a walk with Katja's daughter in another district of Remscheid, in Luettringhausen. We had planned to walk to a nearby restaurant in the neighbour city Wuppertal to have a beer. We met Katja's daughter not far from her home on a walking path in a lovely valley. Than I heard something like "mähhhh" and "mähähä" ... this means sheep! Indeed, a flock of sheep was grazing here. I tried my best to make the girls come to the fence, but even putting on my hood did not work! We walked further towards our destination. We walked through a lovely forest than. We reached Wuppertal-Ronsdorf soon. This is what you call "Golden October" The restaurant was closed - what a pity! No beer as a reward for our walk! Bye Hemming |

Hi Mummy,
the weather has gone crazy - we are having sunshine and about 20°C. This was a good reason to make an excursioin to one of the touristic highlights of this reason. Because my host does not have a car, we took a long walk through lovely rural areas and forests to get there. Katja's son accompanied us. We walked to a distrcit in the West of Remscheid and reached this lovely point soon. Katja told me that it might be a good idea to put on my hoodie. I did so and ... ... sheep! This time they believed that I was a sheep and one of them came to the fence, really curious to meet me. We went into the forest than. Oh, what a lovely view, all those golden leafes! We rested on a bench for a moment. This is an extremely large beech - Katja loves this tree. This tree is showing several route markings. The encircled "R" means Roentgenweg. It is following the border of the municipal area of Remscheid, about 62 km long. It is named after the founder of the X-rays who was born in Lennep, one of the historic districts of Remscheid. We simply had to follow our path downhill to the bottom of the valley. River Wupper is flowing in the valley. I saw a cute little outlook pavilion at the opposite side of the valley. Katja told me that you had a spectacular view to our destination from there. We were visiting Muengsten Bridge, Germany's highest railway bridge. It is connecting Remscheid and the neighbour city Solingen, overspanning the valley of the river Wupper. Here it came into sight. The bridge was built of steel in late 19th century, it is 465 m long and 107 m high. You can find more information here, in German. The bridge is so wide that it is nearly impossible to take a proper photo of the whole bridge. Of course our host knows the location where she could take a halfway proper picture. On our way there we had a look at the leisure park which was built under the bridge some years ago. You can find large lawns with benches for relaxing, playgrounds for the kids, a crazy golf course and riddles. We preferred sitting on a bench, enjoying the lovely surrondings and the sunshine. This is river Wupper. Isn't it looking fantastic? We had to walk back home than. I found something weird in the forest - a puddle oracle! I asked the orcacle aobut the weather for the coming days and about my family at home. The oracle told me that we would have great weather at the weekend and that my family at home in Switzerland would be finde, everybody happy that I met more sheep. We came along a stadium, construction works were taking place there. Can you see the church tower in the background of the photo? This is where I am living at the moment, another five minutes walk from this church. I will fall into my bed in the evening, my little feet are already hurting . Bye Hemming |

Hi Mummy,
the forest was calling again! This time we took a walk in the outlying districts of the neighbour city Wuppertal. We started our trip in a nearby valley. Katja told us that this path was leading towards a small dam. There were several fish ponds along the way. Soon we reached the dam (Ronsdorfer Talsperre), a really small one. There are information boards along the path, you can learn a lot about wildlife in the forest. Have a look at this board, displaying soil animals. We reached another rural district with horses on the meadows. Another fish pond while we walked back. The weather forecast for tomorrow is also promising Bye Hemming |

Hi Mummy,
we took a walk along river Wupper today. We went to Solingen-Unterburg and than into the forest. Katja showed us a weir. Following the river was fun. We found an ear trumpet which intensifies the sound of water running down the rocks - in rainy months a waterfall! MiniMarshmallow had some trouble to hear the water - we did not find any ears on him Later we left the river bank and went uphill into the forest. Here we found fly agaric. .. across the valley of river Wupper. Later Katja showed me lovely old houses in Unterburg when we went back to the car. Most of them were built in 18th und 19th century. That's all for today. Love Hemming |

Hi Mummy,
today Katja showed me around the city centre in her lunch break. We started at the municipal music school. This is the central bus station and the company building of the local newspaper RGA in the background. The adult education center is situated in this modern building. This is the rear side of the shopping center, nothing spectecular Bye Hemming |

Hi Mummy,
today we met my host's daughter in the city centre. She wanted to buy shoes and later take a walk with us. After buying shoes we walked towards the station. We walked towards a valley, leaving all those industrial complexes behind. Deep in the valley we found older dwellings and allotment gardens. I met this hard-working spider. Back in the city ... Bye Hemming |

Hi Mummy,
in the morning we helped our host to make coffee. Later we bought food for the ferrets on the farmers market. In the evening we had to chop all those turkey hearts and other intestines, turkey wings and chicken drumsticks into smaller pieces. Everything will be eep-frozen. In the end we had about 20 packs with food for one or one and a half day. Of course I also was allowed to taste the ferrets food - yummy! Bye Hemming |

Hi Mummy,
we had very bad weather this week, only today it was a bit bitter. We took a walk to my host's daughter in the early afternoon. First we had to walk downhill that hill. There are allotment gardens along the steeper parts of the terrain. We walked along Wolfstrasse. Later it started to rain again, so we were not able to take a walk with Katja's daughter. Bye Hemming |

Hi Mummy,
today we met a friend to take a walk in the late morning. The forests are muddy from the rainy weather we had before, so we mostly walked along the streets, this time to the Southern parts of Remscheid. First I'll show you the station area. In the background you can see the city centre. We reached a district with lovely old houses and villas. To get back to "our" part of the city we went into the forest to cross a valley. Almost home Bye Hemming |

Hi Mummy,
today it was time to leave Remscheid. At home I said good-bye to all my friends here. I accompanied Katja zu her work place to get ready for travelling. It was a short walk, only about 10 minutes. Later we wrote a postcard and I took some sweets with me. It will be a short trip to Northern Germany I hope you will hear from me soon Love Hemming |

Hello Mum,
Today I arrived at Murph’s home. Murph, Sofia and PinkyHH helped me out of my envelope. I showed them my beautiful postcard and the sweets, which olgamaus sent with me. HoBi said thank you! Murph wanted to show us mushrooms although the weather wasn’t that nice. But are there mushrooms in the meadow? Actually we found mushrooms. How will the mushrooms smell? These funny small things were mushrooms, too. And these were typical mushrooms for meadows. Murph often met sheep here, but unfortunately there weren’t any today. Maybe I will meet some in the next weeks here. Until soon Hemming |

Hello mum,
today I was allowed to open a door of the Advent calendar. I found chocolate – very yummy! Then we went outside. We wanted to find out if we can find mushrooms in the winter time. And we found some. Unfortunately they were not eatable. This small red mushroom grows only in the winter. The scarlett elf cup is very rare. Maybe we will see a bigger one later. We had some snow – but not much. The oyster mushroom is very yummy, but this one was too small. Look – we got more snow! We hardly saw the next mushrooms in the snow. They were trooping funnel mushrooms. Murph told us that you can eat them, but they are not yummy. Mum, the snow smelt great! Murph was right! There are mushrooms in the winter! Yours Hemming |

Hello mum,
today is Nikolaus Day : the humans put their cleaned shoes in front of the door the night before – and on the 6th of December the Nikolaus came and put sweets into the shoes – if the humans were well-behaved. Unfortunately I don't have shoes – but we searched big ones from HoBi. No – these were too small. These were better. Unfortunately they were very dirty. We didn’t want to clean the boots. There must be nice big and clean boots somewhere in the flat. These ones were beautiful – we will take them. We put the boot in front of the door and we waited. The Nikolaus had to come! I was the guard. Ah – I heard a noise! Was it the Nikolaus? Wow – the boot was so full! How will we get the sweets? Sofia flew onto the boot. PinkyHH climbed up the boot. Then both threw the sweets to us. # Well – this took a long time. It should be faster! Murph had an idea! We overthrew the boot! Done – so many sweets! We must have been very well-behaved TVs. Many greetings Hemming |

Hello mum,
It was snowing all morning long. This is the spa garden of Bad Salzdetfurth. Can you see how much snow we had? This is the famous place of Murph – the Summstein. You sit in it and bumble. Then your body tickles. There were 2 big salines in the spa gardens. People used the salines to get salt in the Past. Today they relax next to it and enjoy the healthy air. Unfortunately the salines don’t work in the winter time. There were many old timbered houses. You can hardly see them because of the snow. During the Advent season many houses are decorated with these big stars. Beautiful, isn’t it? We got cold – and we went home. We found a nice comfy place and had to dry. Until soon Hemming |

Hello Mum,
it was Christmas and we went to Sülfeld to celebrate it with RikeH, Dicker Kumpel and his guests. First we met Dicker Kumpel and his guests – and we shared our gifts! Great, everyone got chocolate! I received a Santa! Then it was time to talk to Snowy the snowman and Rudi the reindeer. Santa was very busy this Christmas – so he sent his two best friends to us. I started and sang a song. Then I performed a poem. I must have been great – and I received something nice from Snowy and Rudi. It was wonderful. I hope that you had a great Christmas Time too, Mum! Yours Hemming |

Hello mum,
We are on holidays – but the weather is awful. It is raining all day long. Everything is wet and grey! This is the Elbe. It is a very big river in the North of Germany. There are beautiful villages behind the dikes. We even saw a mill. Many of the farm houses had wonderful gates. I saw many lighthouses- great, isn’t it? Big ships were on the way to Hamburg. There were many beautiful houses and churches here, but we already were so wet and wanted to go home. Keep your fingers crossed for us – that the weather will be nicer soon, because we planned a lot of nice trips here! Yours Hemming |
HoBi Posted Dec 31, 2012, 2:31 pm |
Hello mum,
Today the weather was better – and we drove to the North Sea. We drove to the beach and took a wonderful walk. But it was very windy! At this place the Elbe flows into the North Sea. This is the harbor of Cuxhaven. On our way back we saw the fall of tide – the water went away. Hopefully it won’t rain tomorrow. Many greetings Hemming |
HoBi Posted Jan 3, 2013, 4:18 pm |
Hello mum,
it was our last day here – and we took another long walk. I saw beautiful houses and a nice gate. The dikes of the Elbe were really high. This is important. We found this sign. You can see how high the water during storm floods. I cannot imagine it, that the Elbe was 6 meters higher during the floods. This region is called „Altes Land“ (old country). It is famous for the fruit-growing. You can see fields with fruit trees everywhere. These trees were so funny! # At the end I show you the mill from Jork. It is beautiful, isn’t it? I am sorry, because we have to drive home tomorrow. Yours Hemming |

Dear Mum
Here iam at Bajra Sandhi Monument, one of the iconic building in Denpasar, capital city of Bali. The architecture of the monument is very unique, taking the shape of Bajra or Genta, a bell that used by Hindu Priests during religious ceremonies. It is also a symbol of the bond between males and females that creates prosperity according to the epic that tells the story of the Gods struggle to get the Water of Eternity. Every statue and each carving in the monument compound has its own meaning. The whole of the monument symbolizes Mount Mandara where, according to the epic Mahabarath, the Gods had a battle with giants fighting for the Water of Eternity Love H |

Hello..Mum
Now, iam being located at Bali's smallest district : Klungkung. Klungkung is located between Gianyar and Karangasem. Klungkung itself is a bustling town. On reaching the town centre. Klungklung was the base of the ancient Javanese Hindu Kingdom in Bali, from where the Balinese royalty of today draws its bloodline. It is the oldest kingdom in Bali, with a most exalted Kings. Kertha Gosa is an old building of jurisdiction and legislation and is one of the main areas in Bali that has been important throughout history in the development of modern Bali. Located within the district of Klungkung in the north of the island and is an excellent and grand old area with amazing history. The words Kertha Gosa mean peaceful announcement which has been the prime focus of the Kertha Gosa throughout history. The inside and outside of the Kertha Gosa and all around it there is some amazing art in the form of paintings and carvings of wood and stone. This is an area unlike the temples of Bali and the feel is very different. Here at the Kertha Gosa the focus is on power and the importance of the legal system as it was here that trials and penalization was carried out. When inside the Kertha Gosa it is easy to feel how it must have been in the old days when the trials and deep discussions on the politics of the area where carried out. The Kertha Gosa is not only of great cultural value but many of the artifacts and artwork that is inside the building has been deemed extremely valuable although obviously it will remain inside. And here I took a picture with modern Indonesian girls ( they are student) that still using their traditional clothes ( called kebaya ) if attending a party, pray to the Gods and also another ceremonial occasion. Hello
Today my host introduced me about The Music of Bali. The music of Bali is extremely complex and vibrant. The original purpose of music here again is to serve religious beliefs, accompanying dances or wayang theaters. The traditional Balinese orchestra, known as gamelan, is composed of various forms of percussions, with notes overlapping and criss crossing among the various kinds. There is a number of string and woodwind instruments, but most of the players, which can range from a few to several dozen, sit behind various kinds of metallophones, gongs, and xylophones. Each gamelan has its own tuning, preventing instruments from being interchanged from one gamelan to another. Hugs H |

Hi!
I arrived to Chrudim, a small town in the Czech Republic, in the morning. Day was sunny and weather was nice and warm. In front of my new house are growing beautiful, green trees. Welcomed me here big plush bear! He is really big, but very friendly. I met some other new friends here. They are all in my size. It´s a parrot here too. His name is Ferda and he is singing all day. My host works in the School of Arts. She is a ballet teacher. So I visited this school. In the garden are big and small statues. I visited the ballet class, too. I enjoyed few hours with small ballerinas. Tomorrow I´m going to visit the old center of Chrudim. Hugs, Hemming |

Hi!
I have visited the old part of Chrudim. It´s really small town. The main square is beautiful. It´s big church and plague column there. Everywhere are old, colored buildings. Part of the plague column is the fountain. Oh, I liked this place. I spend one hour at English class, too. It´s a little bit funny, the school´s name is „Zebra“ and the classroom´s name is „Kenya“. Everything looks like in Africa there. Hugs, Hemming |

It is a basilica church sited over "Colle della Guardia", in a forested hill about 300 metres above the city. It is the first monument that Bolognese people see when they are coming home driving the motorway. When they see this Sanctuary, they finally feel to be close to home It is also possible to reach the sanctuary walking along a 3.5 km monumental roofed arcade (Portico di San Luca) consisting of 666 arches, which was built in 1674-1793. We also see some of these arches part of the arcade is restructuring. The Sanctuary houses a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary. In 1433, the spring was extremely rainy, threatening to ruin the harvest. To avoid the prospect of a famine, the lawyer Accarisi promoted the descent of the icon of the Madonna and Child (attributed to St. Luke) toask her the grace for the end of the rains. When the icon entered the city on July 5, the rain stopped. There was a big party with a procession of three days to the city, then they accompanied the image to the sanctuary. Since then, as urban vote, these celebrations are repeated every year (in May). |

goldmoon Posted Aug 15, 2013, 9:28 pm |
Today, as goldmoon has the afternoon free, we went to a place called Cervia. It is a touristic city on the Adriatic sea. Goldmoon loves this city. We are here to find an hotel where spend some days in the second half of August
We walked a lot, really a lot, because we saw many hotels before finding the one where we'll stay no one seemed to be nice as goldmoon desired and some of them were full But, luckily, we have found the right one!! After that, we went some minutes on the beach We'll come back here on August, 19th |
goldmoon Posted Aug 18, 2013, 7:43 pm |

|
goldmoon Posted Sep 6, 2013, 11:35 pm |
Last day of job for goldmoon. She took us with her, as she was alone :-)
We watched her in updating some invoices, and we helped her in archiving some interesting economical news from the newspaper |
goldmoon Posted Sep 6, 2013, 11:41 pm |
Afternoon. One friend of goldmoon asked her to look up at her cat. Catsitting work :-) let's go!
We are going to a place called Mezzolara, at about 10 kms from Castenaso. Country roads... |
goldmoon Posted Sep 6, 2013, 11:45 pm |
and finally we meet the street sign
|
goldmoon Posted Sep 6, 2013, 11:47 pm |
Mezzolara is a very very little village. We took some photos of the beginning of the village, petrol pump station on the left and news-stand on the right, the Church of San Michele Arcangelo (Saint Michael Archangel), the central road of the village
|
goldmoon Posted Sep 6, 2013, 11:51 pm |
Over there... Oliver, the cat... |
goldmoon Posted Sep 7, 2013, 12:04 am |
Saturday. This afternoon we are going to Verona!! Very lovely city. Goldmoon loves it very much.
Verona is a city straddling the Adige river, in northern Italy. It is famous because the great Shakespeare located here his "Romeo and Juliet"and because here there is an ancient roman Arena. So, let's take the toll highway ! |
goldmoon Posted Sep 7, 2013, 12:14 am |
Here we are arrived in Verona, after a trip of about 1 hour and a half
we parked the car near this ancient entry of the city: Porta Palio |
goldmoon Posted Sep 7, 2013, 12:34 am |
This is the ancient Scaligeri bridge (also known as Castelvecchio bridge). It is a red bricks arch bridge over the Adige river. It is a pedestrian bridge.
|
goldmoon Posted Sep 7, 2013, 12:48 am |
And here we are outside the Arena of Verona. It is a Roman amphitheatre built in 30 A.D.
It is famous also because of the opera performances taken here. Infact, this evening we'll see the Aida of Giuseppe Verdi!! |
goldmoon Posted Sep 7, 2013, 12:51 am |
Here we are inside the Arena. Within 1 hour it will begin the opera. We took a photo of the scenic design because during the opera it is forbidden taking photos..
|
goldmoon Posted Sep 11, 2013, 9:56 am |
15th of August. In Italy today is a feast, both civil and religious.
We went with goldmoon's parents to eat at the restaurant. We tasted both "crespella with mushrooms" and "tortellini". Crespella is like a crepe or a thin pancake, full of bechamel and mushrooms and folded in half and again in half. It is cooked in the oven. Tortellini are a tipical bolognese food. They are a filled pasta and they have the shape of a belly-button. They are filled with a particular mix of meat (the real filling is registered at the local Chamber of Commerce). Usually they are cooked in broth. They were both delicious!! |
goldmoon Posted Sep 11, 2013, 9:56 am |
Real Italian coffee for me at the end of the lunch :-)
|
goldmoon Posted Sep 16, 2013, 9:47 am |
Our friend Scoop is leaving us Tomorrow morning. He's going to Germany for a new adventure.
We are a little sad because we spent a lot of fun together. Anyway, Goldmoon promised us a surprise... in next days... |
goldmoon Posted Sep 16, 2013, 10:08 am |
Here we are in Ferrara. We are walking the external embankment where people here come to walk, run or do footing.
We are going to Parco Bassani... |
goldmoon Posted Sep 16, 2013, 10:24 am |
Ferrara Balloons Festival! Wow!
It is the most important balloons festival in Italy. Balloons were only 7/8, surely they are more in the weekend. But it was a so exciting show !! |
goldmoon Posted Sep 16, 2013, 10:44 am |
We went, for dinner, in a place called "Sebastian Pub". It is a restaurant placed in a real boat which is really over the river!
We ate an ENORMOUS pizza!! |
goldmoon Posted Sep 22, 2013, 3:24 pm |
little tour near the lake of Castel dell'Alpi. It was formed as a result of a large landslide that in February 1951, came off the left side of the valley and blocked, just like a dam, the stream Savena.
The village of Castel dell'Alpi, that was located on the left bank of the river, was completely destroyed by this event. Now the village has been partly rebuilt on the right bank of the lake, which has now become a welcome tourist destination, especially in summer. |
goldmoon Posted Sep 26, 2013, 3:52 pm |
Two days away from Bologna for us. Today we are going to Tuscany!
Let's take the toll highway... |
goldmoon Posted Sep 26, 2013, 3:54 pm |
Pisa or Livorno first? Let's go to Livorno ;-)
|
goldmoon Posted Sep 26, 2013, 3:57 pm |
Look over there! Smoke! Some underbrush was in fire, but firemen were already working to stop it
|
goldmoon Posted Sep 26, 2013, 4:02 pm |
So here we are in Livorno.
|
goldmoon Posted Sep 26, 2013, 4:04 pm |
This is the "Barriera Margherita". It is placed along the walk near the sea and it is an old barrier that delimited the duty area of the city (now it is disused).
After this construction, proceeding along the street, there are a lot of sumptuous villas. |
goldmoon Posted Sep 29, 2013, 3:40 pm |
We arrived in a sort of stone playa, a place near the sea where people can lay under the sun and have a bath. But without sand, only with stones.
This is a view of the back side of the military Academia |
goldmoon Posted Sep 29, 2013, 3:42 pm |
And here we are in the front of the Italian Naval Academy. It is a military university which is responsible for the technical training of the military officiers of the Italian Navy.
We took a rapid shot because this is military zone and photos are not appreciated. |
goldmoon Posted Sep 29, 2013, 3:45 pm |
This is the Terrazza Mascagni (Mascagni terrace). It is an elegant and striking panoramic viewpoint with this particular floor.
The round construction is called "Gazebo", and it is a little temple for the music. |
goldmoon Posted Sep 29, 2013, 3:47 pm |
And now we are back on the car. Next destination is the city of Pisa!
|
goldmoon Posted Sep 29, 2013, 3:49 pm |
Look! Those are the external walls of Pisa!
|
goldmoon Posted Sep 29, 2013, 3:51 pm |
And here we are in the back of the famous Torre pendente of Pisa (Leaning Tower of Pisa)!!! It is the campanile of the cathedral of the city. It is situated behind the cathedral and it is famous worldwide for its tilt to one side.
The tower tilt began during its construction, caused by an inadequate foundation ground which was too soft on one side to properly support the structure's weight. Its construction took almost 200 years and the tower was completed in 1372. The tower is 55.86 m high (on the low side) and 57.70 m (on the high side). |
goldmoon Posted Sep 29, 2013, 3:53 pm |
Here we are in Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square), also known as "Square of Miracles". This name was created by the Italian writer Gabriele d'Annunzio. The square is totally pedestrian and covered by a green lawn.
The hole Square is a UNESCO world heritage site. This is the Duomo, a medieval cathedral entitled to St. Mary of the Assumption. Both the Duomo and the Tower can be visited inside. But there was a SO long queue that we decided to see it only externally. |
goldmoon Posted Sep 29, 2013, 3:56 pm |
Late afternoon, it's time to find our hotel. Let's go
|
goldmoon Posted Sep 29, 2013, 3:58 pm |
Càscina. This is the city of our hotel! And this is the hotel! And our bedroom!
|
goldmoon Posted Sep 29, 2013, 4:05 pm |

|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 9:38 pm |
Our travel continues. So goodbye hotel. We stayed really fine here, but it's time to go..
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 9:40 pm |
Before leaving, we visited the centre of Càscina. This is the war memorial with some particular glass sculptures placed in the front square
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 9:43 pm |
Next destination is Lucca. Some photos of the travel
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 9:47 pm |
External walls of Lucca (a lot of Italian cities have ancient external walls, and the heart of the city is inside them..)
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 9:49 pm |
Porta San Donato. One of the walls of the city that looks to west. Build in 1629/1639, in origin it had a lift bridge, no more present.
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 9:51 pm |
That is Guinigi Tower. It is one of the few towers remaining within the city walls. Its main characteristic is its hanging garden oh the roof of the tower
We went over there, near the tree :-) |
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 9:53 pm |
View of the city from the tower...
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 9:57 pm |
and here we are in Massaciuccoli. Here there is a lake which is a naturalistic oasis... What a peace here!
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 10:00 pm |
Last destination for today...
Goldmoon's boyfriend wanted to see the sea. So here we are in Marina of Pisa |
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 10:03 pm |
Little stop during the travel for dinner.. I ate a real big fiorentina steak!!!
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 10:04 pm |
Sunday. We spent the day at home, preparing suitcases because tomorrow we'll go to the seaside!! For 6 days!!! I'm so happy!!!
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 10:07 pm |
here we are in Cervia.
Cervia is a town in the province of Ravenna. It is a seaside resort on the Adriatic Riviera. It is also famous for an exquisite kind of salt produced in open salina which is also a natural oasis. And this is our bedroom :-) |
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 10:15 pm |
our second day here it's raining :-( but we had a walk on the beach, anyway.
For dinner, I have tasted this particular broth food, traditional of this Italian region: "passatelli". Passatelli (plural) is a pasta formed of bread crumbs, eggs, grated Parmesan cheese and nutmeg. |
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 10:39 pm |
let's go to the seaside!!
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 10:46 pm |
this evening, the staff of the hotel has organized a romagnolo dinner. Here I am with a big plate of mixed appetizers: pizza, piadina, ham, melon. And then, a mix of desserts: angel food cake, zuppa inglese (dessert made of biscuits, pudding and liquor) and meringue!!
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 10:58 pm |
some shoots of me on the beach
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 11:13 pm |
In late morning, we rent a "pedalò" and we pedal to reach the open sea :-)
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 11:34 pm |
me, on the beach
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 1, 2013, 11:38 pm |
we... outside the hotel in the night
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 3, 2013, 9:33 pm |
last visit on the beach. Last night was rainy and the climate is changeable. So we are going home
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 3, 2013, 9:41 pm |
This evening, we are helping goldmoon and her friend Angela to preside over a photo exhibition during the feast of grape harvest, which is the most important (...in reality, the only one..) event in Castenaso. Yesterday there would have been a historical commemoration, but it began raining so it skipped :-(
Anyway, these are some of the photo taken by members of the photoclub of goldmoon. People come here to vote their favourite photo. |
goldmoon Posted Oct 3, 2013, 9:46 pm |
and at the end of the evening.. fireworks!!!
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 3, 2013, 10:07 pm |
sunday morning. Second (and last..) turn for goldmoon to preside the exhibition. This time we are in a fraction of Castenaso called Marano. We are inside a recently restructured old school that now it is used as cultural center.
I show you also the photo taken by goldmoon. The theme of the concourse was "music" and she took a photo of two dancers :-) I show you also a couple of photo taken outside the building. There is also an old well, which is only decorative |
goldmoon Posted Oct 8, 2013, 10:41 pm |
So, here I am... ready to leave this little place for a new adventure. I will go to another part of Italy.
Goodbye Rattie Rat, we enjoyed a lot tgether :-) |
goldmoon Posted Oct 8, 2013, 10:44 pm |
Goodbye Hemming, my little friend. I hope you enjoyed your time with me. We visited many places, I hope you have liked them.
Good luck! Take care of yourself! You are a so lovely TV! Cinzia - goldmoon |
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 1:48 pm |
Last view from the terrace of our hotel. We are going to take the ferry-boat to cross Garda Lake !!
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 1:51 pm |
On the ferry-boat!!!
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 2:01 pm |
We disembark in Toscolano-Maderno, but we have to drive about 20 minutes because we want to reach Gardone Riviera, which is the place where we'll find the "Vittoriale degli Italiani"
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 2:05 pm |
Look! There is a man with a big motorbike and three toy with him!
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 5:34 pm |
The Vittoriale degli italiani (English translation: The shrine of Italian victories) is a hillside monumental estate of buildings, streets, a theater and gardens, which was created by the Italian writer Gabriele d'Annunzio, who lived here until his death in 1938. He wanted this monumental citadel to celebrate Italian venture during the First World War. D'Annunzio was a big supporter of the idea of the "super man", also supported by the philosopher Nietzche. But he disagree with a lot of issues taken by the fascist government, such as the alliance with the Nazi Germany. So he retired here.
The estate is clearly in Fascist Architecture. The monumental entrance is constituted by a pair of arcs with in its center is placed a fountain. Above the fountain is written the famous motto dannunziano "I have what I have given". |
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 5:38 pm |
After passing the entrance there is a second group of arches, "Pilo del Piave" with the sculpture of Victory chained.
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 5:39 pm |
Autograph of Gabriele d'Annuncio engraved in the rock
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 5:41 pm |
the amphitheater, inspired by the classical theater, and especially to that of Pompeii. It enjoys a stunning view of the lake that makes him the natural setting. Every summer it is home to a prestigious season of shows over the years has led to the stage at the greatest Italian actors, étoiles the world of dance and international music stars.
Today there was a show with all those white dressed people. But we didn't understand exactly what it was. |
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 5:44 pm |
These are some photos of the Priory, the house-museum of Gabriele d'Annunzio. It can be visited, but we decided to visit only the estate outdoor.
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 5:47 pm |
Old car placed in the garden near the house.
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 5:50 pm |
Under the hill there is the keep military ship Puglia, perhaps the most impressive relic of the Vittoriale. The ship was donated to D'Annunzio by the Navy in 1923. The work to bring it to Vittoriale were particularly challenging: they had to dissect a ship and transport it by train at 300 km from La Spezia. For the company it took twenty wagons and several military trucks. The bow, symbolically facing the Adriatic and Dalmatia, was adorned by a figurehead depicting a Victory.
In the hull of the ship was staged the Museum of Edge including some precious vintage models of warships of the collection of Amedeo of Savoy, Duke of Aosta. |
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 5:53 pm |
Not far from the ship, there is also the hangar that houses the MAS 96 onto which d'Annunzio with Luigi Rizzo and Costanzo Ciano took part in the mockery of Bakar (military raid).
At the time of the MAS D'Annunzio was moored to the dock of Torre San Marco and was used by the poet for excursions on the lake's waters. Outside, the acronym "Memento audere always" (MAS) play a Latin motto coined by D'Annunzio ("remember to dare always") |
goldmoon Posted Oct 9, 2013, 5:55 pm |
We, near an olive tree. This part of Italy is full of Olive trees, for its temperate climate (even though we took 3 days of rain )
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 10, 2013, 7:07 pm |
The top of the Vittoriale is occupied by the Mausoleum, tomb built after the death of d'Annunzio. The monument was inspired by the burial mounds of Etruscan-Roman tradition and is made up of three circles in Botticino marble to represent the victories of the Meek, the Artisans' and Heroes. In the center of the esplanade is located the tomb of d'Annunzio and around the tombs of ten between heroes and legionaries dear to the poet. In the esplanade are also placed some dog statues.
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 10, 2013, 7:29 pm |
Some photos of the gardens...
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 10, 2013, 7:34 pm |
Last view at the amphitheater. Now there are no more white dressed people...
|
goldmoon Posted Oct 10, 2013, 7:36 pm |
We just managed to visit all the park but now it's starting raining :-(
We took just a rapid shot at the Town Hall and at the Church. They are both in the front of the Vittoriale |
goldmoon Posted Oct 10, 2013, 7:37 pm |
Ok, we make a little break to eat something.
Appetizer with "Bruschetta": toasted bread with tomato, mozzarella and oregano. Then, "Spaghetti alla Carbonara": spaghetti with bacon, egg and pepper |

Emjay Posted Dec 1, 2013, 9:44 pm |
Dear mum!
How are you? I arrived in Delft this afternoon. It was a long trip, so I'm glad I'm finally here! When I came outof the envelope, I saw five friendly faces. |
Emjay Posted Dec 1, 2013, 9:49 pm |
My new friends are called: Suomi-Girl, Cherry Lola, Humphrey, Poschti and Mammolino the tomcat. |
Emjay Posted Dec 1, 2013, 9:52 pm |
Cherry Lola has been to Gouda a week ago and she brought back a Gouda cheese. She thought it was a good occassion to have a cheese party! |
Emjay Posted Dec 1, 2013, 10:02 pm |
I explored Emjay's home. She has a beautiful orchid. I can't see the view yet, cause it's too dark! Emjay has made a cosy little bed for me. Just as well, as I am very tired after my trip. Night, night, mum!
your little wolf Hemming |
Emjay Posted Dec 1, 2013, 10:05 pm |
Dear mum!
Goodmorning! I slept great! My friends brought me breakfast in bed. That's sweet! |
Emjay Posted Dec 1, 2013, 10:06 pm |
Now I can see the view: it's a garden. |
Emjay Posted Dec 1, 2013, 10:07 pm |
I went to a shoppingmall in Rijswijk. I had a nice piece of cranberry cake. Yummy! |
Emjay Posted Dec 1, 2013, 10:08 pm |
It's Christmas time! |
Emjay Posted Dec 1, 2013, 10:10 pm |
But first Dutch people have another celebration, called "Sinterklaas". Here you see some Sinterklaasdolls.
That's it for today, mum. Bye! your little woolf Hemming |
Emjay Posted Dec 4, 2013, 9:41 am |
Hi mum!
I'm enjoying myself here in Delft. I'm getting more and more friends! These sleeping beauties are called Keiko and Fancy. I think they're in hibernation! |
Emjay Posted Dec 4, 2013, 9:44 am |
Here I am with all my friends. In front you can see Rudolph. He will be released in the wild for the big Christmas release. How exciting! |
Emjay Posted Dec 4, 2013, 9:45 am |
In the evening there was a knock in the door. First we thought it was "Sinterklaas", but it was the postman. He delivered a little package. Is it a new TV? |
Emjay Posted Dec 4, 2013, 9:47 am |
It is Dille, one of Emjay's TV's. She's back from her trip to San Diego. Welcome home! |
Emjay Posted Dec 4, 2013, 9:51 am |
We decided to make a cheese cake to welcome Dille. And she lend us a hand. |
Emjay Posted Dec 4, 2013, 9:52 am |
I'm riding the mixer. Yiiiiiiieeeeehaaaaah! |
Emjay Posted Dec 4, 2013, 9:53 am |
It's ready, but it can use some colour, don't you think? |
Emjay Posted Dec 4, 2013, 9:54 am |
That's better! |
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 12:59 pm |
Hi mum!
Emjay took me to the theatre tonight. We saw a funny play, called "Harrie and two masters". At the tables in the foyer were some funny hats as props for the play. I'm posing in one of them. |
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 1:02 pm |
The top one on the poster is the play we saw, starring Jon van Eerd. |
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 1:02 pm |
Me on my theatrechair! |
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 1:06 pm |
We had fun in the theatre last night! But tonight will be special too! We're celebrating "Sinterklaas". It's a Dutch tradition. Sinterklaas is a bit like Santa Claus, but he comes a little earlier and he gives presents to all children and... ToyVoyagers! |
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 1:08 pm |
There's a big basket with presents on the table and a bowl of "kruidnootjes" (which means "spicenuts"). Suomi-Girl picks out the first present and it's for... Cherry Lola. |
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 1:11 pm |
Cherry Lola picks out a present for me. But... what is it? "It's a travel sleepingbag," Emjay explains. Oh, right! Thanks, Sinterklaas! |
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 1:13 pm |
I climb in the basket and pick out a present for Poschti. |
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 1:15 pm |
At the end of the evening we all have four presents and our belly's are stuffed with kruidnootjes. Oof! |
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 1:17 pm |
These are my presents, mum: a dvd of Zuid-Holland, the province where Emjay lives, a travel sleepingbag, a box of "chocolate hail" (typical Dutch) to sprinkle on your bread and a tin of fizzy drink. I like Sinterklaas! |
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 1:19 pm |
We're saying goodbye to two TV's today: Cherry Lola and Poschti. They have a little farewell party with the cheesecake we made the other day. |
Emjay Posted Dec 6, 2013, 1:21 pm |
We give them a hug and than they go on their way. Cherry Lola told me she will be staying with you! That's great! You're an excellent host. Have fun.
Bye, bye, dear friends! Hope to see you another day, somewhere in the world! That's it from me, mum! Big hug, your little wolf Hemming |
Emjay Posted Dec 9, 2013, 6:51 pm |
Hi mum!
I forgot to post this photo the other day. It's me at theatre De Veste with the poster of the play I saw. So here it is! |
Emjay Posted Dec 9, 2013, 6:52 pm |
We walked to the city center today. On the way there we stopped at an art object. It is called "Etruscan Tresure Trove", but Emjay insists it's a ToyVoyager church! |
Emjay Posted Dec 9, 2013, 6:53 pm |
Just to proof I'm really in Delft! |
Emjay Posted Dec 9, 2013, 6:54 pm |
As you may know Delft is the city of Delft Blue pottery. This bench is inspired by Delft Blue. |
Emjay Posted Dec 9, 2013, 6:55 pm |
Here we are in the city center of Delft and we see some more Delft Blue! |
Emjay Posted Dec 9, 2013, 6:58 pm |
But there are more nice things to see! After "Sinterklaas" Delft is getting ready to celebrate Christmas. This is the huge tree at the Market Place and behind it you see the New Church. |
Emjay Posted Dec 9, 2013, 6:59 pm |
This is the beautiful town hall. |
Emjay Posted Dec 9, 2013, 7:00 pm |
Another Christmassy sight! |
Emjay Posted Dec 9, 2013, 7:01 pm |
This is the Old Church. You can see it has a leaning tower! |
Emjay Posted Dec 9, 2013, 7:02 pm |
One of the beautifully shaped fences at the Oude Delft. |
Emjay Posted Dec 9, 2013, 7:03 pm |
Another look at the Old Church. It's a sunny day, but it's very cold! We're going home now.
Bye! Till next time! your little wolf Hemming |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 1:27 pm |
Hi mum!
Long time, no see! I'll tell you why later on! First a few pictures of my friends and me at the gardencenter. We picked out a Christmastree and looked at the nice displays. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 1:29 pm |
So, this is our tree! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 1:31 pm |
In the evening we went to the city center to sniff up some admosphere! This is an interesting picture of me, don't you think? I'm backlit by a streetlantern. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 1:32 pm |
Suddenly we saw these guys. There were bagpipe players in kilts as well. But it was to dark to get any good photographs of them! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 1:33 pm |
Decoration near the Old Church. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 1:36 pm |
And now I'm on my way to... |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 1:37 pm |
Germany! Emjay invited all of her TV's to come a long on a short trip to Assmannshausen (between Mainz and Koblenz). So that's why I didn't do any updates for a while! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 3:42 pm |
This is the beautiful view on the Rhine from our hotel. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 3:46 pm |
Through a vinyard we walk to the next village: Rüdesheim. We have some lovely views along the way. Unfortunately the battery of Emjay's camera was empty, so she couldn't take many photo's. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 3:48 pm |
We dined in a nice restaurant and than it was off to bed! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 3:49 pm |
The next day it was so misty. We couldn't see anything from our window. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 3:51 pm |
We had some fun in the hallway. Look at those sheep on the carpet! Does that count as a herd? |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 3:51 pm |
Beautiful windows! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 3:52 pm |
Waiting for the train to Mainz. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 3:53 pm |
As you know, I'm a gentle wolf. Kiss, kiss xxx! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 3:54 pm |
Mainz is a beautiful city. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 3:56 pm |
Look, something with the word "wolf" in it! I already fulfilled my lifemission, but never mind! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 3:58 pm |
We're in the train again, on our way to Assmannshausen. It was a great outing. We saw some historic buildings and the Christmas market. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:00 pm |
I had a "date" with Suomi-Girl in a stylish restaurant. What an abundance of decorations! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:02 pm |
Off course, when you are in this region, you have to pay a visit to a special lady... |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:04 pm |
Oh, she's soooo mysterious! She doesn't want to be in the picture! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:05 pm |
We are posing at her feet. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:06 pm |
Christmastime at the Lörh shopping center! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:07 pm |
Behind me is the "Augenroller". He looks at you, wherever you go. Spooky! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:08 pm |
We meet a friendly elephant and later on a friendly geeny! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:10 pm |
This is the Liebfrauenkirche. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:13 pm |
At the "Deutches Eck", the German corner. The river Mosel and Rhine come together at this point. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:14 pm |
Fun on the Christmas Market. |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:15 pm |
This is nice: Rüdesheimer caffee with whipped cream and Asbach Uralt liquor! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:17 pm |
We bought a card of the Loreley. Now we can see her clearly! |
Emjay Posted Dec 19, 2013, 4:22 pm |
One last look at our "hometown".
We had a great trip and now we're home again in Delft. It's all nice and Christmassy here and I'm in good company. Till next time, mum! your wolf Hemming |
Emjay Posted Dec 25, 2013, 12:01 pm |
Hi there mum!
Just I quick note about another adventure! Emjay took Suomi-Girl and me on a short trip to France, just to do some Christmas shopping! Here we are at the border between Belgium and France. |
Emjay Posted Dec 25, 2013, 12:02 pm |
And this was our destination: the huge Auchan supermarket! |
Emjay Posted Dec 25, 2013, 12:03 pm |
The mall was nicely decorated, but not in such an abundance as we saw in Germany! |
Emjay Posted Dec 25, 2013, 12:04 pm |
We had a nice lunch before we went home again. |
Emjay Posted Dec 25, 2013, 12:06 pm |
Here's the statue at the Belgian/France border again. Later we saw some gigantic windmills. In a 2,5 hours drive we were home again. France isn't that far away from Delft, when you think of it! |
Emjay Posted Dec 25, 2013, 12:09 pm |
Time to celebrate Christmas! Have a happy time, mum!
Love, Hemming |
Emjay Posted Dec 28, 2013, 10:57 am |
Dear mum,
I'm sending my warmest thoughts to you this Christmas! We found a present in the tree this morning. It was half way up the tree, so we had to climb to retrieve them! Well, I can do that and Suomi-Girl certainly can climb too! |
Emjay Posted Dec 28, 2013, 10:58 am |
It's a little bag. But what's in it? |
Emjay Posted Dec 28, 2013, 10:59 am |
It's a little scented... thing. Suomi-Girl got a pink one with a girly smell. But off course I got a more masculine version! |
Emjay Posted Dec 28, 2013, 11:01 am |
And then we had some fun with Christmas crackers! The crown was far too big for me, so I put something else on my head. There were some Christmas stickers inside as well. |
Emjay Posted Dec 28, 2013, 11:04 am |
And now it's Suomi-Girl's turn. She got the same Christmas stickers and a purple crown. She put the folded crown on her head. Looks funny!
It was a nice Christmasmorning for us. Bye, mum! your little wolf Hemming |
Emjay Posted Jan 1, 2014, 11:29 am |
Hello dear mum!
We spend the last day of the year doing some traditional Dutch stuff. Like... watching and listening to the TOP2000. That's a list of the 2000 most popular songs ever. Listeners can vote for their favourites. The one on top of the list for years and years is "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. Here we are watching the program, broadcasted from the TOP2000 café. |
Emjay Posted Jan 1, 2014, 11:30 am |
And this is a special Dutch treat for the last day of the year: oliebollen (with or without currents and raisins) and appelbeignets! Yummy! |
Emjay Posted Jan 1, 2014, 11:32 am |
Another thing Dutch people often eat at December 31 is potatoesalad. Emjay makes her own and Suomi-Girl and me help her.
First Suomi-Girl peels the potatoes. |
Emjay Posted Jan 1, 2014, 11:34 am |
I'm in charge of the carots
I'm glad they are peeled already. I have to slice them up in tiny pieces. |
Emjay Posted Jan 1, 2014, 11:36 am |
Suomi-Girl slices up the paprika and I take care of the gerkins. Now the carots and potatoes will be cooked and the paprika will be baked. |
Emjay Posted Jan 1, 2014, 11:39 am |
The potatoes are ready. Suomi-Girl puts in a big spoon of mayonaise. And now we can add the other ingredients. |
Emjay Posted Jan 1, 2014, 11:39 am |
Emjay puts in a bit of ketchup. |
Emjay Posted Jan 1, 2014, 11:40 am |
Oops, we forgot to cut the pickled onions! I slice them up quickly and we add them to the potatoes.
It's ready now. You can also add some ham, but this is a vegetarian version. |
Emjay Posted Jan 1, 2014, 11:45 am |
Now we prepair filled eggs. Emjay uses some secret ingredients. |
Emjay Posted Jan 1, 2014, 11:48 am |
Everything is ready now. We can be proud of our work! |
Emjay Posted Jan 1, 2014, 11:54 am |
At twelve o'clock the fireworks starts. Dutch people are allowed to light their own fireworks. Some people think it should be left over to professionals. Anyway, it's looks pretty! |
Emjay Posted Jan 1, 2014, 12:01 pm |
Dear mum, Suomi-Girl, the other TV's, Emjay and me wish you a... |
Emjay Posted Jan 4, 2014, 3:06 pm |
Dear mum,
Today our friend Rudolph is leaving to become a wild TV. We all say goodbye to him and wish him good luck. |
Emjay Posted Jan 4, 2014, 3:08 pm |
One last picture together and then Rudolph gets into his safety bag. Suomi-Girl and me will accompany him to his destination. |
Emjay Posted Jan 4, 2014, 3:10 pm |
Remember this picture? It's Rudolph and me in front of the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church). Emjay will leave Rudolph inside the tower. Isn't that great? |
Emjay Posted Jan 4, 2014, 3:13 pm |
So here is Rudolph's place. We say our last goodbyes and leave him alone. It's sad...
But we go on and climb the last steps to the highest point of the tower. We have a marvelous view! |
Emjay Posted Jan 4, 2014, 3:15 pm |
We can see the whole of Delft!
I hope we will hear from our friend Rudolph soon. We will miss him! Bye, mum! your little wolf Hemming |
Emjay Posted Jan 10, 2014, 1:57 pm |
Dear mum,
We said goodbye to Humphrey today. He is leaving on his first journey: to Germany. Goodbye, dear friend! I hope to see you again, somewhere in the world! That's my news for now. Bye, mum! your Hemming |
Emjay Posted Jan 15, 2014, 2:06 pm |
Dear mum,
We were in the center of Delft and saw the New Church from a distance. Will our friend Rudolph still be up there, we wondered. As it grew dark, we could enjoy the Christmas decoration, that is still above the canals. |
Emjay Posted Jan 15, 2014, 2:10 pm |
The weather is bad, so we stayed in. Good that we did, cause the postman brought a package! But... isn't that Humphrey? He mysteriously returned! The next day Emjay took the package to the post office again. Hopefully this time Humphrey will arrive at Alienne's address! |
Emjay Posted Jan 15, 2014, 8:49 pm |
Have you ever heard about a hotel especially for cuddly toys? Well, there is one in Delft! It's called "Knuffelhotel". From the window you can see three churches: the Old Church, the New Church and Maria van Jesse Church. |
Emjay Posted Jan 15, 2014, 8:52 pm |
We meet Buddy Bear, who lives at Knuffelhotel. He throws a tea party for us with a Delft Blue tea set. And we have some nice blue and white cakes as well. Suomi-Girl wears a traditional Dutch hat. |
Emjay Posted Jan 15, 2014, 8:55 pm |
Buddy Bear shows us around the hotel. In the kitchen I meet chef Mouseone. He tells me about the biological products he uses. |
Emjay Posted Jan 15, 2014, 8:55 pm |
Buddy Bear shows us our room. Looks comfy! |
Emjay Posted Jan 15, 2014, 8:56 pm |
It turns out this isn't our room after all! We get the luxury suite! |
Emjay Posted Jan 15, 2014, 8:58 pm |
The next morning we say goodbye to Buddy Bear. Thank you for the hospitality, Buddy! We can recommend Knuffelhotel to all cuddly toys!
This was a nice little surprise! Bye, bye! Your wolf, Hemming |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:00 pm |
Dear mum,
I have news for you! I have been invited to go to Germany! Yes, it's time to move on... It's difficult to leave Suomi-Girl and Dille behind. But that's the fate of a ToyVoyager. There was a place I haven't visited before. It is an idyllic church. Nowadays it's a cultural center, an exposition room and a biological restaurant. Dille and Suomi-Girl came along with me. |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:02 pm |
How do you like my new summer cottage?
We're in the church garden now. In summer you can eat outside, if the weather is good. |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:04 pm |
Behind the garden there's a little animal farm. One of the goats strikes a curious pose |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:05 pm |
Hi there! |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:07 pm |
We enter the church and pay a visit to the chapel of the Brown Madonna. You can see why she's called that way! |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:08 pm |
Nice interior, don't you think? |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:09 pm |
There is even a tooth of a mammouth, which was found in the neighbourhood. |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:11 pm |
With a steep ladder we climb into the tower. And from there we have a nice view over a region called Midden Delfland. |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:14 pm |
Across the road there's a farmhouse you can visit and so we do. I even meet a little sheep herd! |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:18 pm |
Inside a haystack we find an information center. There's a huge map of Midden Delfland and a couple of beautiful photographs. Well, I'm not so sure I want to move on! There's still a lot to see! Maybe next time... |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:20 pm |
This is the haystack we were in. |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:23 pm |
We visit the stables with all kinds of cute farmanimals. |
Emjay Posted Jan 21, 2014, 4:24 pm |
It was a lovely day!
I'll write you again soon, mum. Bye! Big hug, your little wolf Hemming |
Emjay Posted Jan 22, 2014, 8:28 am |
Dear mum,
It's time to say goodbye to my friends, to Emjay and to the Netherlands! I'm told girls LOVE chocolate! So I treat my two lady friends to some nice bonbons that were left over from our trip to Germany. |
Emjay Posted Jan 22, 2014, 8:29 am |
Goodbye, dear Suomi-Girl. We had much fun together and I will miss you! |
Emjay Posted Jan 22, 2014, 8:30 am |
And goodbye, Dille! I will miss you too! |
Emjay Posted Jan 22, 2014, 8:31 am |
This is my travelling box with all my souvenirs. |
Emjay Posted Jan 22, 2014, 8:33 am |
One last hug and I get into my box. Well, dear mum, I'm on my way!
Love, as always, from your little wolf Hemming |
Miss-Cynical Posted Jan 31, 2014, 8:20 pm |
Hi Mum!
Today arrived in Beidenfleth, Germany! I was welcomed by my host-mum and TV Nathalie. Here you see me crawling out of my box ... Nathalie and host-mum already awaited me! I had all my belongings with me - and a lot of very nice souvenirs for my new hostmum! She was so delighted! Hehe, I made a very good first impression! :-) Nathalie is very nice! She was glad I arrived, because she's the only TV in the house right now - she doesn't need to feel so alone anymore! We had a nice cup of tea and some chocolate, sat around and talked the whole evening. I really needed something to warm up, it's quite cold here in the northernmost region of Germany, minus 7 °C, brrrrrr ... Luckily I have my hoody! And I love chocolate ... yummy .... Then it was time to go to sleep ... I crawled into my sleeping bag (it's so nice to have it with me, it makes me feel at home) and hostmum put me in a decorative fishers net, so it feels like sleeping in a hammock! That was a nice and exciting day! I think I will have a nice time here, but anyway I miss you, Mum! Good night! |
Miss-Cynical Posted Jan 31, 2014, 8:22 pm |
Hi Mum,
I slept well in my hammock the first night and woke up early! Everyone else was still asleep - so I decided to take a look around the house on my own. There's a lot of maritime stuff and decoration in the house. I asked hostmum about it and she told me that all the small houses in this street once belonged to fishermen and captains, because of the river Stör nearby. Fishing is not of economic importance anymore but the house owners all try to keep this maritime flair alive, inside and outside. It's the nicest street here and famous for Beidenfleth - it was once populated by many people from Holland (in the 15th/16th century) and they brought their famous Dutch architecture to this place. So the street looks like it could be somewhere in the Netherlands! Hope to go down to the river soon and take a look around the village! Good night, Mum! |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 1, 2014, 6:08 pm |
Hi Mum,
when I woke up this morning it started to rain - so this was the last chance to built a snowman, before all the snow had melted. Nathalie and I quickly headed outside ... ... and here's our snowman! Bye-bye for today! Hugs, Hemming |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 1, 2014, 6:41 pm |
OH NO - Mum, I am sooooooooo sorry! I forgot your birthday!
You know, I was travelling and had just arrived at my current hostmum - the jetlag and all that ... Luckily hostmum found out on the TV-forum and reminded me - too late unfortunately. Shame on me Mum, I wish you a very happy belated Birthday! All the best for you! Love you! Hemming |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 4, 2014, 7:12 pm |
Hi Mom,
as the weather was so nice, hostmum stopped at the "Stör-Sperrwerk" (flood barrier) where you have a nice view. At this place the river Stör runs into river Elbe. You can see the Elbe behind me. And this is the barrier behind Nathalie and me. Here's some information about the flood barrier and how it works. On the other side of the Bridge you can see the river Stör (there are still some ice floes on the water) The sunshine was so nice - but it didn't last long, soon it was getting very misty .... Bye-bye for today! Yours, Hemming |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 4, 2014, 7:14 pm |
Hello!
Today we went to meet with Helga, one of hostmums best buddies. She lives in Elmshorn and on the way we stopped in a small village called "Grönland" (Greenland). I don't know how we got so fast to Greenland! :-) This is the small city harbor of Elmshorn where we stopped for a short walk. Afterwards we met Helga at the Cinema. I'm at the MOVIES! Hollywood - here I come! When the film started, hostmum put me back in her pocket - she said I'm too young to watch this thriller movie and I wouldn't sleep for days and would have bad dreams How disappointing! I'm a wolf - I'm not afraid of anything! Then we went to a very nice restaurant/café next to the cinema and had a drink & baked potatoe with sour creme - yummy! Good night for today! Your little Hemming |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 4, 2014, 7:15 pm |
Hi Mum,
not much happening today but a short trip with the train. Take care! H. |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 5, 2014, 8:07 pm |
Hello Mum,
today I had to say good-bye to duckling Nathalie. She's on her way to Great Britain - wow! I'm sure she'll meet the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family there ... Bye Nathalie, take care! Have a safe journey. I was a bit sad, Nathalie left for new adventures, so hostmum wanted to cheer me up and said, we are making a roundtrip in the region. Sounds good! |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 5, 2014, 8:08 pm |
Our first stop was Itzehoe. Here we took a walk in a little park located at the Prinzeßhof (it's a museum).
Then we had lunch and a nice cup of tea at restaurant Himmel & Erde (Heaven & Earth). The food was delicious! |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 5, 2014, 8:09 pm |
Our next stop was Ecklak. Just a small village - nothing interesting here. So why did hostmum stop here?
Oh see! There's a street named Wolf's Nest! Hehe ... unfortunately I didn't see any other wolf there ... |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 5, 2014, 8:11 pm |
We got into the car again and then we visited the lowest point in Germany in Neuendorf-Sachsenbande!
This is 3,54 m under sea level! WOW! That's way deep, isn't it? There was a lot of information and a small pavillion for a rest. And there was guestbook! Hostmum helped me writing an entry! Here it is: That was fun! :-) Although it was cold and foggy this was an interesting day because I learned a lot about the geography in Schleswig-Holstein! |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 5, 2014, 8:13 pm |
On our way back home we stopped at the watergates in Kasenort.
Here the river "Wilsterau" runs into river "Stör". The gates open and close according to the tides to avoid flooding of the land. Flood tide gates existed here since the 15th century, the watergates were build in 1925. This is the river Stör behind me ... And here's the Wilsterau ... That's a very old ship - it looks a bit rotten ... Overlooking the small river ... it's frozen ... ooooh, my butt is getting cold |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 5, 2014, 8:15 pm |
On our trip today we saw several herds of sheep! Yummy!
I realised that I am a very small wolf - or there are extra large sheep in Schleswig-Holstein ... Sheep near Vaale: Sheep near Neuendorf-Sachsenbande: Sheep near Kasenort: There are sooooo many of them here! I think these herds at least count as one for my Life Mission! |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 5, 2014, 8:17 pm |
Back at home I told Jeffrey the cat about my todays adventures - he was impressed ...
I was so tired I didn't even make it into my sleeping bag ... Good night, mum! Yours Hemm..zzzZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 7, 2014, 6:59 pm |
Hi Mum,
saw another sheep herd today on our way to Wilster. They were quite curious and came very close ... ...not afraid of me at all! Sheep are stupid Bye-bye, yours Hemming |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 8, 2014, 7:57 pm |
Hi Mom,
we're at the MOVIES again! :-) Wow, we are going to see The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug in 3D! YumYum ... Popcorn! This 3D glasses are way too big for me! Look, it's Gandalf and the Dwarfs! And me on hostmums knees ... The dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim Erebor, their homeland, from Smaug the dragon. Bilbo Baggins is in possession of a mysterious and magical ring and then ... oops, hostmum tells me not to spoil the entire story ... Sorry Mum, will tell you later! Good night! Your little dwarf - no wait - wolf Hemming |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 9, 2014, 11:00 pm |
Hi Mum,
how are you? We just did a short trip today and we passed a sculpture made of bicycles - this is a campaign by the local citizens for a cycle track. Looks nice, doesn't it? Good night! Yours Hemming |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 10, 2014, 3:47 pm |
Hi Mum!
Today hostmum took me to grammar school in St. Margarethen and we met Celine. Celine is 10 years old and I really liked her (and she liked me, too)! Hostmum helps her to improve her reading skills. She meets Celine at her classroom once a week and they read books together, play word games and other nice things. And today I joined in! I could listen to a mysterious story about a secret garden! Here are more pictures from my "school day": That was fun! |
Miss-Cynical Posted Feb 10, 2014, 3:48 pm |
After school we drove to Wilster - here you can see me in front of the old Wilster Townhall.
This half-timber house was built in 1585 - today it is a museum. On our way to Heiligenstedten we stopped to visit the "Honigflether Schöpfmühle" - a small mill that was build around 1850. Hundreds of these special mills have been built in this region in the past - they didn't grind corn but transport water from the lower levels up to the fields. This is one of the few mills that still exists - and full functioning! Here I'm sitting on one of the vanes ... Here's some information on the mill - you can read everything about the mill here. Bye for today! Hugs Hemming |

Hi Mum,
today we made a short trip to Glückstadt. Here you see me overlooking the river Elbe. On the other side cars queue up for the ferry from Glückstadt to Wischhafen - the ferry crosses the Elbe and connects Schleswig-Holstein to Niedersachsen. Here's one of the lighthouses in Glückstadt (Oberfeuer), this one is located more than 1 km away from the lighthouse on the coastline (Unterfeuer). Then we passed an advertisement for a new shop in Wilster - very "wolfish"! It's a shop for children's clothing. At home I found a postcard with the Schleswig-Holstein song and tried my best to sing it ... Hostmum was not amused Good-bye for today! Hugs, Hemming |

Hi Mum,
Happy Valentines Day! Today we went down to the river ... Here's some information about Beidenfleth. The village was first mentioned in the year 809 when a meeting between Karl der Große and Danish King Göttrik took place here! That's impressive! Here's a memorial stone that informs us that the first ferry connection between Beidenfleth (here) and Bahrenfleth (on the other side of the river) exists since 1620! The ferry's name is ELSE and she's back in service after all the cold and ice for two weeks. ELSE is on her way to pick us up - you can see the ferry behind me. On the ferry - overlooking the River Stör Tina, the ferry(wo)man, is hostmum's neighbour - so we are allowed to visit her in the drivers cabin, where I can examine the controls of the ferry. Me - having fun on ELSE! Bye - love you! Hemming |

Hello Mum,
Today host mum and I started early into the day. We slept until 8 a.m. (it is not so long for a saturday) and then we drove a few miles to Stuttgart fair grounds. Today there was the "Retro Classic" fair. There you can see lots of old vintage cars and tractors. Host mum loves those things and the Retro Classic is the biggest fair for vintage cars. It was crowded. I have never seen such so many people. But on the other side I saw such nice cars and tractors. Even the big old tractors I liked it most. Yours, Hemming |

Hi Mum,
Today we started into spring and the weather was great outside. The first time with short sleeves!! We had 24 degrees and that's amazing for the end of March. Because of the weather, host mum decided to colorate wool by herself. She showed me and Bella Blue how it's gonna work. It was exciting. After she colorated the wool she went it into microwave to fix the color on the wool and then, she brought it outside for drying. Look at those colors! Have a nice weekend, Hemming |

Hello Mum,
Host mum and I went to Plochingen yesterday. It is located at the confluence of Fils and Neckar, 19 km southeast of Stuttgart and the Neckar is navigable from here on. Plochingen is a nice little town, and the town hall is famous in the surrounding area. Maybe you have heard about Plochingen because Friedensreich Hundertwasser has build the "Hundertwasserhaus". I did not see it this time, but host mum promissed, that we will come back soon and then I will see the Hundertwasserhaus. I saw the old town hall and the nice mermaid fountain, the library and finally I had to smell the spring flowers. Mhhhhh. Yours Hemming |

Hello everybody
Today I visited St. Gallen. St. Gallen is the capital of the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. It evolved from the hermitage of Saint Gall, founded in the 7th century. Today, it is a large urban agglomeration (with around 160,000 inhabitants) and represents the center of eastern Switzerland. The town mainly relies on the service sector for its economic base. The main tourist attraction is the Abbey of Saint Gall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its renowned library contains books which date back to the 9th century. This is the Town Hall - located next to the train station. From there we walked to the "City Lounge" or as people call it - Red Square. Around the new building of Raiffeisen Bank, the outer region has been redesigned by two artists. The lounge is a kind of public living room. I thought for a long time on the pending eggs. Now I know - these are just lights. The monastery courtyard, the Cathedral, The door to the Gallus chapel. Here you can see the remains of the old monastery wall. On the way home we still passed the city park. Mom bought us a pretzel with pumpkin seeds to strengthen. I enjoyed my last day at home. Tomorrow I will start a new adventure. Hemming |

Hi
today was something very special. A solar eclipse - well, a partial eclipse. We all wanted to watch Unfortunately, Jasper could not get goggles. All sold out. So we looked at the spectacle on the computer. Not really the same but still very impressive. We saw the smile of the sun. Have a nice weekend Hemming |

Hello together
overnight winter has come back. Snow and cold wind made us stay at home. We decided to play cards. For an international group like us poker was the most obvious. Of course, we did not play for money. Sweets are worth more than money for a Toyvoyager. No good cards - no sweets. Until next time Hemming |
