Hi Hansel,
It's been a while since your departure. I hope you are doing well. I will go to visit a city named Halle, haha it's located in the east of Germany. Remember last year we went to Frickenhausen together. I'm not sure if we could share a travelog, haha but I hope it works.. So that maybe someday we could meet each other somewhere in Europe. Oh my new host has a little son, I can't wait to meet him! The photo below is me and Halle. All of my friends were coming to send me off. Arn Wes Wilde is heading to America. Hope to hear from you soon Gretel |
goomymia Posted Jan 31, 2015, 1:34 am |
Dear Hansel,
I reckon you are still on your way to England. Guess what? We have 2 guests! They are Crabs and GiGi. Crabs is an orange crab he is from Essen, Germany. And GiGi's traveled long way from her hometown Trinidad and Tobago. Um..I guess it's far from here, because I even didn't know that country before They were so interested in our story, I told them many things about you in welcome party. Take care Your sis Gretel |

Hi Gretel!
I hope you are doing well and I see that you have left home on an adventure of your own! Well, I had a very long journey. First the postman could not fit my travelling pouch into my host's mail slot so he decided he should leave me with a neighbor! Every day I heard a knock on the door but the neighbors who took me in were not home and could not answer the door! After a week I began to despair! Would I ever arrive at my host's house? Out of desperation I began to tear holes into my travelling pouch, enough to stick my feet out and two holes so I could see out! When the neighbors came home one day I ran out of the door as quick as I could! I ran next door to my host's house and began working my way out of the envelope. Bringing my gifts along for host I knocked on the door. And knocked and knocked. But no one was home, dear sis! It was cold outside and I thought it was best if I just let myself in. I found a nice warm blanket while I waited. It wasn't long before another toy came to say hello. His name is No Name. No, that's not really his name but he did not have one. He seemed friendly enough and we shook hands... er hand and eye stalk and had a nice chat. I also met another toyvoyager, his name is Rendolph. He has visited my host for many years now. I asked if he thought it would be alright if I used the computer to update my travel log while I wait. He said it would be fine. Whew. I'm tired. Typing this took a lot of jumping and dancing around on the keyboard. Let me know when you arrive at your host, Gretel. You know how much I worry about you! Love, Your Brother Hansel |

Hello Hansel,
I hope you are well. Finally I arrived at my host's home today. Kasper welcomed me and helped me out of my envelope. I was so glad to be out after this long travel. Sometimes I thought I had to die of boredom and would never see the sun again. Kasper is the favorite toy of my host's little son. He is a very funny guy, always laughing and joking. And this cute rabbit welcomed me, too. His fur is so soft. I could hug him the whole day. First I rested a bit and the two told me all their plans for the next week. I can't wait to explore the city. My host's son was not yet home, but in kindergarten. Maybe this was not so bad, Kasper told me, that he can be a bit rough sometimes. I am very curious to meet him. After a good rest I helped my host to make some postcards. I think, I should do this more often. I really have a talent. After that my host gave me this awesome sweet. It was so yummy! Now I am really tired and will sleep. My host said tomorrow she wants to show me something in a town called Weißenfels, which is near Halle. And Kasper mentioned that there will be a birthday party in the near future, because some little guy turns one soon. This all sounds so exciting. Love Your sister Gretel |

Hello Hansel,
today it was very sunny here, but also very cold. I finally met my host's little son. He is very cute, but I am also a bit afraid of him. He likes to chew on things and I am glad he did not put me in his mouth. Then we were in Weißenfels, where we visited the Grandparents and took a little trip to the Bismarckturm. It is named after a German politician. The tower was built in 1907. There is also a little park and a playground. I think, this is very nice in summer. And I was allowed to take a picture with my host's old camera. It is over 100 years old. She says it is one of the first portable cameras, a Brownie No. 2 by Kodak. She got it on Ebay and the is the first test shoot. We are both very curious, if any of the photos will turn out nice. My host really likes old cameras and has a small collection. But now I have to get warm again. My clothes are not really weather appropriate. Love, your sister Gretel |

Hello Hansel,
because today is Valentine's Day I also got some yummy chocolates. And for dinner we had Wiener Schnitzel. This tasted great! I hope you had a nice day, too. Love, your sister Gretel |

Hello Hansel,
today we stayed at home. It was very cold outside. But look what I found! Unfortunately this is no real TARDIS, but a cookie box. At least there was a lot of chocolate inside. I also made a new friend. At first I was afraid of this little dragon, but he only wants to play. He even gave me a ride on his back. And look how much toys are in this suitcase. All for my host's little son. I also had a nice time with the baby on his rocking, erm, Caterpillar. Yes, this is a Caterpillar as a Rocking Horse. It is the Caterpillar from the book, The very hungry Caterpillar. So cute! Now we will watch a bit of American Horror Story. Do you know this? It is terrifying. Fortunately Kasper promised to hold my hand. Love, your sister Gretel |

Hi Gretel!
I'm so happy to hear that you arrived at your destination safely! I am finally getting to update my part of the journal. Let's see... After I met my host she introduced me to some other dolls living here. The mothers name is Hennie and the daughters name is Margot. They seemed nice enough. Hennie suggested that since I was around her daughters size that I could use her bedroom during my stay here. How very welcoming! They even said that since I did not pack my pyjamas that I could borrow a set. Hrrm... I'm begining to notice something... they really like the color pink around here! This is my bedroom... And these are the pyjamas they let me use... Gretel, please don't laugh at your poor brother. I feel humiliated enough. Oh well... time for some sleep. Lots of love, Hansel |

Happy late Valentine's Day, Gretel!
You got chocolate too?! On Valentine's day I found a mysterious bag in the corner of the room. What could be inside? As soon as I poked my head inside I heard a loud croaking sound and a giant frog jumped out at me! He explained that he was born in a factory in the UK and had a heart lovingly stitched on him. When I asked him what he was doing here, he explained that it was his job to look cute and help human's celebrate Valentine's Day! I wonder what my job is? Look Gretel! I got to eat a chocolate heart too! After exploring my host's Valentine's bag it was time to have a small party at the Doll's house. Hennie Doll brought over her boyfriend Ken and they spent the entire time on the couch kissing! EWW!!! We had lots to eat at the party - popcorn, candy and soda! They even gave me a box of Valentine's chocolates of my very own! I hear we are going to go exploring this weekend and visit some places, I can't wait! Until my host is free I will spend time with my new toy friends. Love, Your brother Hansel |

Hi Gretel!
I hope you are doing well. I am jealous that you found a Tardis with candy inside and got to ride a dragon! My host was busy this weekend so we did not get to do a lot of sightseeing. She did take me to the library however so that I could look for a book to keep me occupied during the week. On our way we noticed one of the tires was a little flat so we stopped off at the gas station to fill it up. It's a dirty job sis, but someone has to do it! Finally we made it to the library. I thought this quote was very fitting! I thought getting an audio book might be better because then I wouldn't have to struggle to keep the pages open. But the selection of audio books wasn't that great. Oh! I better go, my host is looking for me. I'm going to help her fill out postcards. Take care! The bestest brother, Hansel |

Hi Gretel!
Happy Chinese New Year! Ok, so it is a few days late... My host took me out for dinner to celebrate the new year. The menu selection was huge! I asked but they said they do not make smaller portions for toys My host said I could take the leftovers home though so I decided to get the crispy pork and rice and an iced lemon tea. It was delicious. Not as good as back home, but still decent, mind you. I hope you had a good Chinese New Year, sis! Love, Your stuffed brother, Hansel |

Hi Sis!
How are your adventures going? This weekend my host visited the National Gallery in London and took me along. Unfortunately photography was not allowed inside but we still took pictures of other cool things! This is Trafalgar square, a very popular place in London to come and hang out at. It is also the location of the National Gallery and various statues. Many protests are also held here. Today they were protesting fracking. This is Nelson's Column... and what a very big column it is! Near the center is a nice little fountain. There was even a wood duck swimming around. Within the square are four plinths with statues atop. For example: The fourth plinth has been used for many years to host guest artist's works. This week a new statue was unveiled. It is called the Gift Horse and was created by Hans Haacke. There is a stock market ticker that is tied around his leg, sis! Guess who I met outside the National Gallery, sis?! You'll never believe this! My host says he has a BAMF face. But I don't know what that means. Oh well, he was very friendly and let me take a picture with him. I also let a strange moving statue... Creeeeepy! After a stroll in the gallery we visited a few places outside the Trafalgar area. What's this? A castle big enough for a toy? Oh... my host says it is called the Lilliputian Police Station. It was built in the 30's and fits a single person inside. It's no longer used but in it's hay day it would allow a police officer to stand inside and call for help or use the holes in the side to shoot rioters. Hope you're having fun on your adventure! Your bro, Hansel |

Hello Hansel,
today we are in Freiberg. Here live my host's parents. Freiberg is in Saxony and is near the Erzgebirge. Over 800 years ago they found silver here. Because of this, it is part of the silver road. We were here to celebrate my host's grandmother's birthday. Of course there was cake. And here you can see me in front of some organ pipes, because Freiberg is famous for the world's largest Silbermann organ. Unfortunately we did not had time to see the real one. And they even had some snow here. A shame that it was not enough to build a snowman. Love your sister Gretel |

Hello Hansel,
I hope you have fun on your trip. Today I had the chance to finally see the city centre of Halle. And it was such a lovely sunny day. Here you can see the entry to the city museum. We had no time to go inside, but isn't the poster lovely? Our next station was the market place. In the background you can see the town hall. It is a very modern building unlike the rest of the buildings near it. And here is the highlight of the market place. The statue of Georg Friedrich Händel, who was born here in Halle. He is one of the symbols of the city and each year there is a festival of his music. Next we walked to the university. My host studied here some years ago. This is the main building, but there are many parts of the university all over the city. At the moment there are no lectures but there were a lot of students here nonetheless. And I found this strange statue. It was a bit creepy. Halle also has a lot of theaters. This is backside of the Neues Theater, which was founded by a German actor. And here is the opera. My host told me, that she saw here some ballets and an opera. We even found a map of Halle. At the blue point is our current position. This is the main post office. Isn't the building beautiful? And here we are at the Saline, where salt was made. Halle was once a big producer of salt. Now here is a museum, but the machines are still working and sometimes they make salt in front of the visitors. This was the end of our little trip. I had so much fun seeing some sights of Halle. Best wishes your sister Gretel |

today was my host's son's first birthday. There were a lot of guests here and we all celebrated. I only had time to take this one picture with the birthday cake. I can tell you it was really delicious. I fear, I gained some pounds here with all the yummy things. I hope, I will fit into my envelope again. Hopefully you have a lot of fun in England. You look like you are having an awesome time on your journey! Today we went to the mall to pick up some notecards. On our way we noticed half of the mall was taken over by pirates! Maybe if I sneak a quick peek they won't notice me.... Eeep! The kraken! Run for your lives!.... Oh... pirate booty... We escaped unnoticed and found our way into the Cadbury shop where I purchased a few snacks for the road. Now to sneak past the pirates again... Yours, Hansel |

Hello my dearest Gretel!
I am finally in Kazan! The journey has been peaceful and now I'm enjoying "summer" (it's really, really warm here, 25 C in daytime) Galiya apa says thanks to Cyndi for her presents The day I arrived we went to visit Galiya apa's sister. She lives in a new city district called the "Sunny city" (symbolic, huh, as the day was great and sunny ). The grown-ups decided to go to a playground near the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital (Kazan is the capital of the republic of Tatarstan). We walked past a local school yard there. There were many different metal constructions at the school's territory. Find me here Eventually we reached the hospital's playground. Had great time there! I even found a house for myself I hope you are fine too! Hugs and kisses! Your Hansel |

Dear Hansel,
I'm so glad that you arrived at your new home! Today I visited the city of Bamberg. The oldtown of Bamberg is very beautiful and interesting because it is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is the river "Regnitz. First I show you "Altes Rathaus" (Old Town hall). The painting on the house wall is amazing! Behind me you see "Klein-Venedig" (Little Venice). There we go now. Here we are! "Little Venice" are very old buildings from the fishermen. The residenz. This is the cathetral. Beside the cathetral is the "Alte Hofhaltung" (Old Court). Bamberg was built on 7 hills like Rome. One of this hills is the "Altenburg". This was my little tour in Bamberg. I hope you like it! Hugs, Gretel |

Sélam Gretel!
I haven't dissapeared, no Galiya apa and her son were ill, so there was an intermission in my updates. Two weeks ago we visited a village called Kyzyl Yeshler (it's translated from Tatar as "red youth" ). Galiya apa's parents have a house there, though they live in the city, they love fresh air This is "muncha" in the background - Tatar baths Kyzyl yeshler (Tat. Кызыл яшьләр is a small Tatar village, it has only about 100 inhabitatants, but it is now popular with the "dwellers from the city" like Galiya apas parents They were one of the first ones to build here a house though, they remember this village having its own shop, primary school and herd, all of which is gone now. Anyway the village is very cosy and charming in its desolation On the photos the nature is only waking up, now everything is green already Hoping to visit more interesting places! Yours, Hansel PS: Say hi to Karakolak there! You've been to a wonderful place! |

Today host-mum said to me that she has a little surprise for me! We made holiday! But for 4 days :-) … Early in the morning we drove off. Where will we go??? We drove to the south of Bavaria: Allgäuer Tor Host-dad bought a „Pickerl“. It’s a sticker for the car toll in Austria. We made holiday in Austria! Wonderful! What a bend! We drove and drove. Stop Host-dad! We are almost in Italy! This is the „Brenner“. We had to pay 9 € - very expensive this street! Snow???? It’s May! The wheater was not good… But we are in good mood :-)! No holidays in Austria??? The city of Bozen is in Italy… |
beelicious Posted May 26, 2015, 11:06 am |
Yes! We made holiday in Italy! Host-mom explained us that we don’t say „Italy“. We must say „South Tyrol“. They people here are political Italian but they won’t. The South Tyrolean speaks German and Italian. But they prefer German. Everywhere both languages. Do you understand? Ok. So I made holiday in South Tyrol :-) ! Here we are. In the near of Brixen. Now we are in Luesen. A very little village near Brixen. This is our hotel „Bergschloessl“. The patio. Frog fountain. What a wonderful knight’s armor! Our balcony. Look! Our pool! But now I’m so tired after this journey. I need a rest. |

My dearest sister!
We had some trouble with the Internet these weeks. It was rather stormy and rainy, maybe the breakdowns were due to the lightnings, we never knew Anyway. We went to visit the so called "Tatar district", where Tatars historically lived after the Kazan khanate was conquered by Ivan the Terrible. Part of the district was renewed recently. I liked it so much! Here are some of the views: mosques, the Kaban lake (some say you may find treasures at the bottom of it ) and many nice houses Hope to hear from you and Mom soon! Love, Hansel |

Writing a belated update Why belated? Because there are no such blossoming trees now It's summer here! Waiting for berries! So we went to the nearby trade and entertainment centre called "Olympus" some weeks ago. There you can find a playground, a small zoo, a stage with a projector, cafes and shops of course. Actually we went there to make sand pictures. There is a kind of a workshop for children here. The result was beautiful)) I did my best to help, of course Till the next updates! Take care! Hansel |

How are doing? We are having a wonderful time here! I mostly play with Galiya apa's little one and eat And recently we went to theatre! To the Tatar National Academic Theatre named after Galiaskar Kamal. The performance we watched was called "Hodja Hasreddin", it was a comedy about a wise man who is remembered here for his funny jokes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasreddin). The performance was in Tatar language of course, but Galiya apa translated me where I didn't understand I liked that evening! Hope you enjoy your time too! Yours, Hansel |

Hello Sister,
Yesterday I arrived in Switzerland. The postman handed my envelope to Jasper, as this just set off to gather wild blackberries. So I came to my first trip. Here I live in the moment. This is the River Thur - only five minutes away. Then we gathered wild blackberries. We had to be very careful because of the thorns. We walked along the river and Jasper showed me her favorite places. Even the waterfall. Because of the persistent heat, he does not have much water at the moment. But that also had something good. We were able to climb behind the waterfall. Then we went up a hill and rested under a young chestnut tree. The old tree was struck by lightning. From here I had a nice view over a part of the town of Lichtensteig. I ran through a forest, found first autumn flowers and climbed a steep wall. In between, we collected more blackberries. At home I ate a few berries and then I had to sleep. I'll tell you more soon. Hansel |

Hi sister,
Jasper's car has broken down. Now she has to take the train to work. Pff, wait even longer until she gets home. For safety's sake, we are looking for a new car. These are our favorites. All the best Hansel |
Jasper Posted Sep 12, 2015, 12:50 pm |
Hello sister,
good news! The car is repaired and Jasper has bought new hiking boots. Now we can get started again. Keep your fingers crossed that the weather cooperates. Kisses Hansel |
Jasper Posted Sep 22, 2015, 5:18 pm |
Hi Gretel
Today Jasper had to buy food. She hates shopping. But the weather was so nice, so we joined the shopping with a walk. We parked the car in front of the shopping center and walked off. Here was a large factory a few years ago. After the demolition new apartments and shops are built. That's one of the many bridges over the river Thur. We walked along the shore and saw the Post bridge. In the background you can see the tower of the Catholic Church. That's the high school. Many old villas are on the shore. Next Bridge - a pedestrian bridge. This is the train station. The building is quite old, but the station square was redesigned two years ago. Next Bridge. That's the cinema, and this is the profession - and training center. Back at the shopping center, we had a dispute over the purchase. Sweets or healthy stuff. As punishment, we had to wait in the car. With Jasper's shopping we were in agreement. At home we threw ourselves on the candys. Despite some difficulties, they tasted very good. Bye for now Hansel |

Hi Everyone,
We've just arrived to Skierniewice. This nice man, who was waiting for us on the railway station is mr Wokujski (the main haracter from the famous writer Bolesław Prus' book) [URL=http://www.fotosik.pl/zdjecie/5065f4cfbf55d982] |
stanley06 Posted Sep 29, 2015, 5:43 pm |
In Skierniewice we were greeted by the Skierek's elder brother - Skiernisław.
Skiernisław says that the history of this city is inextricably linked to the breeding apples and showed the statue-fountain, a little boy who since childhood fascination with apples and founded the local Institute of Horticulture. |
stanley06 Posted Sep 29, 2015, 6:05 pm |
This is the Skierniewice's main square and the town hall.
At the center of the square a large fountain. - It's a pity that today it is too cold to take a bath. |
Jasper Posted Sep 29, 2015, 9:16 pm |
Hi sister
this morning we had to get up very early. A special trip was on the agenda. We visited the Jungfraujoch. The Jungfraujoch is a col between the Jungfrau and the Mönch. It lies at a height of 3,466 meters (11,371 ft) above sea level in the Bernese Alps, on the boundary between the cantons of Bern and Valais, halfway between Interlaken and Fiesch. It is a glacier pass, on the upper snows of the Aletsch Glacier, and part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch area. At 7.35 we boarded the train in Interlaken to Grindelwald. We felt displaced in earlier times - so uncomfortable were the seats. In Grindelwald we changed the train to Kleine Scheidegg. The weather did not look very good - high fog. Jasper calmed us: it will be beautiful. And really, after a short time, we broke through the fog and had a breathtaking view. Then an announcement came: Eiger North Face to the left. Not all of us were fast enough to see the infamous rock face. Jasper told us we all could admire them. Next Stop: Kleine Scheidegg. Jasper, her son and some edgy TV's climb out of the train, run to the next platform, posing for a picture with the Eiger north face and get on the next train. The Jungfrau railway is a metre gauge rack railway which runs 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) from Kleine Scheidegg to the highest railway station in Europe at Jungfraujoch (3,454 m), between the Bernese Oberland and Valais in Switzerland. For a few minutes we were silent and enjoyed the views of Lauterbrunnen valley and the Eiger Glacier. How big must have been this glacier, when one considers the abraded rock. Then the train disappeared into a tunnel. The railway runs almost entirely within the Jungfrau Tunnel, built into the Eiger and Mönch mountains and containing two stations in the middle of the tunnel, where passengers can disembark to observe the neighbouring mountains through windows built into the mountainside. After a few minutes into the dark, the announcement came: 5 min. stay into the Eigerwand Station. Only separated by a window, the rock of the Eiger North Wall was close enough to touch. And the view !! Next stop was Eismeer. Here we marveled at the glacial ice and the deep crevices. And then we reached our destination: The Jungfraujoch railway station, at an elevation of 3,454 meters (11,332 ft) is the highest in Europe. It lies east of the saddle, below the Sphinx summit, and is connected to the Top of Europe building, which includes several panoramic restaurants and a post office. Several tunnels lead outside, where secured hiking trails on the crevassed glacier can be followed, in particular to the Mönchsjoch Hut. After more than 2 hours on the train we just wanted to get out. So we took the elevator to the observation platform, which lies 117 meters above the station. With 6.3 m per second, we raced against the fresh air. On the platform we enjoyed a spectacular panorama. The Aletsch Glacier The Aletsch Glacier (German: Aletschgletscher) or Great Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier in the Alps. It has a length of about 23 km (14 mi) and covers more than 120 square kilometres (46 sq mi) in the eastern Bernese Alps in the Swiss canton of Valais. The Aletsch Glacier is composed of three smaller glaciers converging at Concordia, where its thickness was measured by the ETH to be near 1 km (3,300 ft). It then continues towards the Rhone valley before giving birth to the Massa River. The whole area, including other glaciers is part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch Protected Area, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001. Der Mönch (4107m - 13474ft) The Mönch ("monk") forms together with the Eiger and the Jungfrau a highly recognisable group of mountains visible from far away. The Sphinx observatory The Jungfrau (Virgin) Then we took the elevator down and walked on the glacier. We wanted to play in the snow, but Jasper only allowed to walk on the marked area. All around there are deep crevasses where we disappear forever. Then we looked at the plaque for the miners. 30 men lost their lives during construction. In ice palace it was mostly too dark to take pictures. But an interesting discovery we have made anyway. After a last panoramic view of the imposing mountains we had to head home. It was such a great day. Kisses Hansel |

Hi sister,
since weeks we are trapped under a gray blanket of high fog. From morning to evening - always gray. Sun's from 1000 m. So we go to the mountains. Taking the chair lift we head to Wolzenalp at 1130 m above sea level. On the high plateau Rietbach a beautiful upland moor with springy soft peat soil waiting for us. Of course, no flowers and herbs grow more now, but the autumn-colored trees and the mild sunrays put us into euphoria. Jasper has a lot to do to keep us on the prescribed routes. In summer there is a barefoot trail through the marsh. We imagined, what we would look like after such a barefoot fun. Out of sheer laughter we were toppled by a hair in the brown broth. Up here, the air was so clear we could even see the Säntis. Some friendly cows looked at us interested. Then the sun disappeared behind the mountains, and we headed for home. What a wonderful day. Hansel |

Allegra (so welcomes you in the Engadine)
we started on Tuesday morning for a trip to Graubünden. By train we went to Thusis. (Thusis and the Rhaetian Railway are UNESCO World Heritage Site) There we were up in a yellow Postbus which brought us to the Rhine Gorge "Viamala". Viamala or Via Mala (Which in Romansh literally means "bad path") is an ancient and notorious section of a path along the Hinterrhein River between Zillis-Reischen and Thusis in the Canton of Grisons. This narrow gorge was the most serious obstacle on the approach to two mountain passes: the Splügen and the San Bernardino. Even the ancient Romans used this way. 28,000 years needed the Rhine to dig so deeply into the rocks. The traces of water can be seen everywhere. 321 steps took us to the gorge and we marveled at the power of water. This white foundling does not come from this region and nobody knows when and how he got here. (from the bottom only a few pictures without TV's. It was too dark and the one-handed flash images are blurred.) High water level Here the Viamala seen from the Wildener bridge. Then we started to go on the "Via Spluga" a cultural and historical hiking trail back to Thusis. After an hour of back and forth, we came to a real challenge for Jasper. We - or better Jasper had to cross the Rhine Gorge. The Traversina web is actually a hanging staircase. 57 m long it hangs about 50 meters above the abyss. 176 stages to overcome a height difference of 22m. 10 minutes to change your mind, then Jasper took heart and started walking. With trembling knees but proud to have managed it we made a short break. As the legs obeyed again, we hiked on. Shortly before Thusis we saw the castle Raetien. This trail is really adventurous. Then we saw Thusis. At the station we were waiting along with a "nice lady" for our train home. That was an adventure! Hansel |

Hi sister,
we were on Lake Thun and visited Jasper's daughter. On Friday, we enjoyed the sun during a walk to Oberhofen. In the distance we saw the fresh snow Bernese Alps with the famous Three - Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Then the first look at Schloss Oberhofen. Along the way, we were looking forward to autumnal trees. Oberhofen Castle - unfortunately they had annual holidays. Too bad, but quickly our attention was drawn to a film crew. The Swiss Television filmed a documentary on the Swiss dialect singer Polo Hofer, who lives in Oberhofen. We walked on and enjoyed the afternoon and the beautiful view. Then we discovered a monument to Sir Winston Churchill. Winston Churchill stayed from 23 August to 20 September 1946 in Switzerland. His vision of a new, united Europe attracted attention worldwide. Unfortunately it was too cold to swim - the water of Lake Thun is so clear and clean. We marveled at the vineyard in its autumnal splendor and as the sun slowly sank behind the mountains, we headed for home. Tomorrow we will make a trip to ... Jasper says anything, it should be a surprise. Hansel |

Grüezi, Hello and Bonjour,
in our last destination many languages are spoken. In addition to 7,000 cows and a few locals here is the jetset home. We were in Gstaad, a small but beautiful village in the Bernese Oberland. "Last Paradise in a Crazy World". So Hollywood and Broadway star Julie Andrews describes her holiday home Gstaad. Even though his international flair Gstaad has remained alpine genuine. The atmosphere is quiet and discreet. And exactly that appreciate its famous guests from royal families, film, art, sport and business. Sir Roger Moore once said, "They are less interested in me than for my car." Richard Burton and Liz Taylor spent their holidays here. Likewise, Gunter Sachs, Bernie Ecclestone, the Thai royal family and many more celebrities. The little calf at the village well was made by Elizabeth Taylor's daughter. Many beautiful houses can be seen here. They must be all built in chalet style. We could not resist and had to try this luxury wooden bathtub. In the distance we saw a castle-like building - there we needed to go. With horse-drawn carriage up the hill. That would have been nice. We were allowed to test it out, and had to walk afterwards. Jasper said, "Movement is expedient for you" So we started walking and could shortly afterwards admire the 5 * luxury hotel Gstaad Palace. Amazed, we listened to Jasper when she called us some figures about this hotel. 104 rooms, 26 suites, 2 Tower suites in the hotel towers. 1 Penthouse suite with its own sauna and roof terrace. 5 restaurants, tennis courts and a swimming pool. And - before you ask: too expensive for us. Okay, we did not ask - but maybe ...? Jasper thanked God that the hotel is closed until the beginning of winter season. We still enjoyed some views and made our way towards the village. An image with a Capricorn and brief glimpses to a Ice Hockey Match and already had passed our time in Gstaad. But don't forget: Liz Taylor was here, Roger Moore was here aaand Hansel was here !! See you |

Dear sister,
today brought Jasper much greenery. It was time to make an Advent wreath. The branches smelled good but it stung. Bravely we went to work. We cut the branches and wrapped them with wire to the straw wreath. The decorating was Jasper's thing. Does the wreath not look beautiful. We are all looking forward on the 1st Sunday of Advent. Many kisses Hansel |

stanley06 Posted Dec 29, 2015, 10:30 am |
And now we are going to the National Stadium in Warsaw. From the Castle Square we are going down the escalator. These stairs were the first escalator in Poland and constituted one of the main attractions of the capital. They were donated by the Soviet Union and opened in July 1949. Stairs arose in connection with the construction of WZ road, in the years 1947 - 1949. The stairs are located in the tunnel linking Avenue "Solidarity" with The John's tenement located close to the Castle Square. The whole mechanism of the stairs was made by the Soviet company Metrostoj and consisted of three parts of a length of 30 meters. Stairs can be inferred on the "top" 20 thousand people per hour, during which time they can return ten thousand of people. During the decades of exploitation the stairs several times broke and in June 1997 complete closed. They opened after extensive renovations, in July 2005. Original equipment stairs partially scrapped, partly put to the Museum of Technology and the remainder retained in the basement of the building . |

Hi sister,
Last weekend we stayed at Jasper's daughter. On the way home we made a small stopover in Bern and visited on the Parliament square an event called "Every penny counts" Radio SRF 3 sends each year for a week their program from a glass box and collects donations for a good cause. This year was the motto "Together for young people in need" Around the clock you can watch the presenters when they welcome VIPs from sports, business and more. For a small donation can you wish songs or send greetings. This year more than 4,000,000 Swiss francs have come together. Later, we strolled through the old streets and over the Bernese Christmas market. That's one of the many fountains of the city of Bern. It is called "Kindlifresserbrunnen" (Child Eater Fountain) and dates from the year 1545. With a creepy feeling in the stomach, we drove home. Hansel |

This year we had a quiet Christmas. Grandfather gave us some worries. (a surgical intervention) He is now on the mend. Tomorrow we will travel for a few days to Jasper's daughter. Bye for now Hansel |

Hi sister,
Holiday on Lake Thun. Today we made a trip to the Niederhorn, a mountain vis-a-vis of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. We started in Thun and boarded the paddle steamer "Blüemlisalp" The Blüemlisalp was built in 1905 in Zurich and was the showpiece of the Lake Thun fleet. The ship is 60.45 meters long and has a width at 13.15 meters. 800 people can be accommodated on it. 1971 Blüemlisalp should be scrapped. 20 years it lay unused at anchor, waiting for its last trip. The association "Vaporama" enabled, a 2-year renovation and since 1993 the Blüemlisalp is again the favorite of tourists and locals. So, enough of numbers and data, see for yourself how nice it was. The ride in the morning had something magical. We were fascinated by the landscape and also the interior of the vessel amazed us. In Beatenbucht we left the steamer. Before we boarded the funicular, we could admire the ship in all its beauty. The funicular took us to Beatenberg. The view during the ride was terrific. Then we moved into a gondola and arrived after a short ride, the mountain station of the Niederhorn at 1950 meters above sea level. The view was spectacular, even if only pitiful remnants of snow were to be seen. Instead sleigh rides the scooter is used and instead of skiers enjoy themselves the paragliders. Snow or no snow, no one could spoil our mood and we enjoyed the day to the fullest. Here we are waiting for the ship to go home. We had a wonderful day. I wished I could experience everything with you. Hansel |

We are in Wroclaw.
Wroclaw is the largest city in western Poland. In 2016, the city will be the European Capital of Culture. We saw Old Town Hall. I like it very much. I also saw very nice monument It s Boleslaw Chrobry. This man was Duke of Poland from 992 to 1025, and the first King of Poland in 1025 It s very, very cold today. So we were unable to visit Centennial Hall, but I hope I will be able to see it next time. Very interesting way to explore the city is seeking out Wroclaw dwarfs. There are over 300 dwarfs spread all over the city. We found one of them :-) |

Hi sister,
it was so boring today, so we snooped around a bit, and found these things - laboratory glassware !! Let us explore and invent. This flask was clearly too big for us. We quickly searched matching sizes. Then we started our tests series. All we found in Jaspers cupboards was poured together, heated, distilled and how it all means. It seethed and sometimes smelled terrible. The result - you will not believe it - gold. Unfortunately we have forgotten in the heat of the moment to write down the recipe. Sorry sis, can't send you a fortune back home. Hansel |
Jasper Posted May 2, 2016, 4:17 pm |
Hi sister,
finally nice weather again. We did not hesitate long and were on our way to Sigriswil, a small town in the Bernese Oberland. After train - and bus ride we walked to a known destination called "grave mill". Here you can fish for trout and gold panning. There is a zoo, and barbecues. Unfortunately was still closed. But we saw an alpaca breeding. After a good lunch at the Hotel Bären, we visited the Sigriswiler panoramic bridge. It is 340 m long and 182 m high and one of the longest and highest pedestrian bridge in Europe. The views of Lake Thun and the Bernese Alps is breathtaking. And the view into the canyon makes Jasper trembling knees. After a last look at the bridge and the parish church together with vicarage we were on our way home. After a long time without the sun we enjoyed this day especially. Love Hansel |
