Pussy Galore, London, England

Pussy Galore was relaxing in a pretty garden, enjoying the sun on her fur and the breeze in her whiskers, when she spotted a small brown bird that made her feel rather peckish. Like lightning, she pursued it up a tree, but her plans were foiled when it flew away and she realised that climbing down was harder than climbing up.

Time passed and it began to get dark.

And a bit chilly.

This wasn't good.

This wasn't good in the slightest...

And worst of all, it looked like it might rain.

Pussy Galore was getting very cold and tired when she decided to have a little cat-nap in the hope that her situation would have improved by the time she woke up. She drifted back to consciousness to a chorus of high-pitched voices all talking over one another. This seemed a good time to brave the embarrassment of asking for some help. A shuffling noise and a couple of 'humphs' preceded the appearance of a strangely-dressed bear who peered at her with a concerned expression before chivalrously offering to help her down the tree trunk.

Pussy Galore was delighted to be invited for a day out in the countryside with Travel Ted, who was brimming with ideas for fun things to do and places to go. First he took her to the quaint market town of Westerham, where she sunbathed on a statue of Winston Churchill, Britain's famous war time prime minister, who had lived in a big house nearby. For lunch he took her to an olde worlde pub where she dined in style on traditional fish and chips.

Pussy Galore eyed up the fish in the River Darent but was relunctant to get her paws wet as her label said 'wipe clean only'. Still, it was relaxing to be out in the countryside and she found plenty of good spots to soak up the sun.

Pussy Galore hoped to catch some mice in the poppy field but didn't have any luck as she was rather slow-moving.

A little further down the road were beautiful fields of lavender, whose scent made Pussy Galore feel quite sleepy after her big outing.

Pussy Galore was quite charmed by Fusco, the little French rabbit that Travel Ted had invited to stay. She asked if he would be her escort for a very special occasion: watching a digitally restored print of Goldfinger in the cinema. It was a magical evening in which both of them got to complete their first mission.

Pussy Galore had been invited to France as the first stop in her grand tour of Europe. She was very excited indeed. Although she was sorry to leave her friends - and was very touched that Fusco and Travel Ted took the time to package her carefully for her journey - she knew that her homesickness would soon ebb when her overseas adventure began. Maybe she would even get to meet more Toy Voyagers on her journey...

After a 5 days chrono trip, here I am in France!!! (South West, in the Hautes Pyrénées region)

As you can see, I travel by Royal mail, quite fast, but quite cramped for space and my ear has decided to crease...
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1106/1305485467_f1af13c4f3.jpg?v=0

Oohh!! what a strange carpet !!! Perfect to sharpen my claws ... It seems my host planned everything!!! I think we should get on ...
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1256/1305486253_ec71aeb83a.jpg?v=0

By the way, I arrived right on time she said, because tomorrow, Mood is taking me to a small seaside resort "Vieux Boucau" where she spends her holidays... I hope we'll go fishing!

Meanwhile, and after a good wash, I began to explore the surroundings area looking for a flesh-and-blood pussy cat ... (Deborah told me one was living with Mood!!!) ... I found this beautiful Busy Lizzie and decided to wait and see... A good hunter has to be patient !!!

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1385/1217845306_9afd11e853.jpg?v=0

Then, Mood told me she was going to visit her granny, and suggested I could go with her... quite a good idea! because even if I found no cat in Aureilhan, look what I found to Mood's Granny's house : two lovely chicken frisking about ...

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1307/1217843796_fc716aca4c.jpg?v=0
yum yum!!! .... But, I had to change my plans as Mood stared at me angrily, so I just went on exploring and climbed up to this plum tree

As I -forgot- my swimsuit, I asked Mood to show me the village ... here is the '"estacade", a wooden walk along the salt lake
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1426/1217907808_37e829acd4.jpg?v=0

It was low tide ... and no fish around...

Then we went on the "Mail" another floral walk with shops around
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1316/1217909476_16662c3fcb.jpg?v=0

Mood bought pearls to make necklaces and bracelets ... So I helped her, but I still don't know which colour size me the best??

Surprising isn't it?
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1073/1216533345_d10e0022a3.jpg?v=0

Well ... it could have been, but it's just a firework. We are 15th august, and in France, it's a public holiday (Assomption day), always celebrated with a traditional firework ...
By the way, did you know that jellyfishes were flying in the sky??? Here is the proof :
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1440/1217979372_22533631c6.jpg?v=0

Well, let me tell you about my day:
This morning I woke up with a french breakfast : croissant and chocolate-filled pastry skewer with tea (english cat always drink TEA! nothing else)
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1065/1217009447_d9c67cd1c8.jpg?v=0

And as Romeo was STILL sleeping, I met Taro (who is travelling with us) to play "pétanque" (a local South of France institution!)
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1333/1217010893_0daa63ad34.jpg?v=0
Each player tosses or rolls their "boule" so that it ends up as near as possible to the "cochonnet" (a small wooden ball thrown from a distance of 6 to 10 m), at the same time trying to hit the other team's "boule" so as to scatter them.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1387/1217011439_1d7ab1e908.jpg?v=0
Players take turns, and whoever ends up closest to the cochonnet when all balls are played, wins.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1375/1216512266_0a4a80d55a.jpg?v=0
I won !!!!

I'm ready for the Masters 2007!!!
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1104/1360216976_d00447bbe7.jpg?v=0

At the end of the day, Taro and I went to see the sunset, at the top of the dunes
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1151/1215975931_0abde406cf.jpg?v=0

So we all went for a walk in the surroundings. First, we should have gone to the higher mountains, but because of the weather we just went to the premountains to visit small typical mountain villages...
On our way, we stopped in Lourdes... Not a real beautiful village, but famous since Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette, the little shepherdess in the past century ... Now, it became a big pilgrimage place for catholics and as Taro loves cathedrals and churches, we stopped here for a while ...
Here is Bernadette watching over her sheeps
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1050/1310149623_4b5894fa4a.jpg?v=0
I talked 5 min. with the two little sheeps standing at her feet. They were quite surprised first, but when I told them about my big adventures, the little black one asked to travel with me ... but the white one (the oldest) said they couldn't leave Bernadette ... they HAD to stay with her, and smile to the tourists ... the black one winked at me ... maybe he will join us soon ???

Behind me is the Lourdes castle
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1300/1311027914_abe5d6c9a9.jpg?v=0

Then we went on to this so charming small village called "Aucun" in the Val d'Azun
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1048/1311033346_5adfe727ec.jpg?v=0
with typical stone-built barns with their slate roofs

shhhhh !!!! I think I found a new friend

let's try to get closer
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1288/1311032474_86bed9b3e1.jpg?v=0

Well, this one was too shy, but here is his sister!
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1331/1310152171_9f5ffd13bd.jpg?v=0

"Hello or Bonjour!" I said in french ... "Is there any mice out here" ???

We have visited an exhibition about pastoralism

there were also strange animals, like this little funny thing called a "Desman des Pyrénées". It only lives here in the Pyrénées

As you might know, France is now hosting Rugby world cup, and Toulouse also hosts some rugby matchs, so they hung up this poster which says welcomes in the different languages of the different matchs that take place in Toulouse such as Japan and ... hheeuu ... I let you guess

As we didn't have much tilme to visit (as the sun was setting) we just visit the main places such as the St Sernin basilica
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1139/1422854885_ff282cecdf.jpg?v=0
Mood told me that basilica Saint- SERNIN of Toulouse is most famous, vastest and most beautiful of the Romance churches of the South, richest of France in relics !!!
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1100/1422856413_9130fe5fee.jpg?v=0
I have to say that I didn't really care about these relics.. I was much interested in these strange cement fish all around the basilica ?!!!

But our visit turns up into a race against the clock and we ran to the Garonne. The river that flows in Toulouse.
Behind me is the Quai de la Daurade (Daurade embankment) with moored flying boat. You can also see the St Pierre bridge in the background

PG was happy to see other cats visiting here, but another TV that had arrived today upset her somewhat, because he thought they were all out to eat him! PG was rather offended by Mousy Mouse's assumption, and did her best to snap him out of it.

It's so hard to believe it nearly Christmas! It's so warm here in Australia. Most people have plastic Xmas trees because real ones just die in the heat. Isn't the tree pretty?
We took a group photo under Nik's nan's tree, and peeked at the presents! I know what Nik's nan is getting for Xmas now

We all watched the cricket today. The other TVs think it's boring, maybe because they can't understand it, but being from England I do :)
This was a one-dayer, Australia Vs New Zealand, for the Chappel-Hadlee cup. Nik teased me about England always being so easily flogged in the cricket by Australia, but I ignored it ;)

Nik thought some of us might be feeling a little bit homesick because it's near Christmas, and we're in a strange (and HOT!) country.
So guess what - she made us some pretend snow to play with!
It's called D'Ziner snow. It's like a florist's gel, but it really looks like snow. We had more than you can see here but it was so hot it started melting!
It felt very strange playing with "snow" under the shade of a big tree in 35 degree heat!
We tried making a snowman, but, well, as you can see, December in Australia is not kind to snowmen...even made from pretend snow!

Tonight we all watched the traditional Christmas carols on television. Australia has two main Carols - one from the Domain in Sydney on Channel 7, and one from Melbourne on Channel 9, usually on Xmas eve...which automatically makes the Sydney ones better ;) That's the ongoing Sydney Versus Melbourne conflict I've heard about!

CHRISTMAS EVE!!!

Nik took us to see some of Stroud's Xmas lights tonight. It was wonderful - a full moon and a warm night. Feels strange to be experiencing a warm Christmas!
The lights are hard to photograph, but we got this one of Australia's famous "Six White Boomers"
A boomer is another name for a big male kangaroo, and in Australia Santa's sleigh is pulled by six snow-white kangaroos!

We watched Sumo on TV.
Sumo is Japanese traditional wrestling (the national sport).
In a sumo match, two wrestlers who wear a sumo wrestler's loincloth enter the rung fight until on either leaves the ring or touch the ground with any part of his body other than the bottom of his feet.
I was very excited to watch!!

According to the leaflet...

The building of the museum built in 1899 was once used as a school. At present a junior high school is built next to the museum.

Unfortunately the museum isn't allowed photography...

Yeah..... I have arrived in Taiwan, at last! It was so hot in my envelope, aweful!

The weather here was sunny, hot, and humid. I've never felt this kind of weather before in my whole life. My new host, Andrea, told me that I'll get used to it. I really doubt that, so from now on I'm going to take a shower 3 times a time....to cool down a bit.

Anyway... I got out of my envelope checked out my new place. I was happy to find out that I'm not the only cat in the house and even better....there aren't any dogs!

I met the other cats right away. This is me with Obi-Wan Kenobi, a British Shorthair. He loves to eat and sleep, are you surprised  ;)?

The other cat, Timer didn't want to make a picture with me. Maybe I'll try it again at a later time  :p.

Today I went to Taipei and the first place visited was the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. Nowadays it's renamed into Taiwan National Democracy Hall, due to a political "game", but many people still name it CKS Memorial Hall.

The memorial hall was built to honour president Chiang Kai-Shek, and was opened in 1980.
You can read more about this place here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiang_Kai-shek_Memorial_Hall

Here I am with the memorial hall. Isn't it huge?
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i186/icitaiwan/67832452.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i186/icitaiwan/d2254eb2.jpg

And we climbed the 89 stemps up (and down :p) to check the view.
Those 89 steps symbolizes the age of Chiang Kai-Shek hen he died.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i186/icitaiwan/2e313307.jpg

Here is the view, not bad, right?
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i186/icitaiwan/402fb756.jpg

The gate at the end is the main entrance of the memorial park. The building on the left is the National Theater and the building on the right is the National Concert Hall. The whole area is surrounded by a park

OK....I felt hungry and thirsty (again), so I decided to check out the vending machines

“The Dataran Merdeka, or Merdeka Square was once a focal point— and cricket pitch—for the British colonial presence in Malaysia. The structures bordering the Dataran Merdeka resemble the physical environment of the colonists' native land. Situated on one corner of the square is the Selangor Club [2], replicating the Tudors of merry old England. It was at this square in 1957 that the Union Jack was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted, signaling Malaysia's independence as a nation. A 95-meter flagpole [3], one of the tallest in the world, marks the spot.”

Sultan Abdul Samad Building [1] is the distinctive landmark in KL. Moorish in design, this building, completed in 1897, was formerly the seat of the British colonial government. Perhaps the most photographed building in the city, it features a 40-meter clock tower affectionately dubbed "Big Ben", topped with a golden dome and flanked on both sides by two domed towers. At night, colored lights twinkle in the arches, making it look like a scene from an Arabian Nights' tale.”

“Consecrated in February 1895, the church in this early English Gothic-style cathedral was designed by A.C. Norman, and was elevated to the status of cathedral on September 8, 1983. This century-old building is shaped like a cruciform and can accommodate 200 worshipers. It consists of the nave, which has an open, timbered roof and the chancel, which is raised above the nave floor level, paved with tessellated tiles and lit by three stained-glass windows.”

Across the street is the Malayan Railway Building, another Moorish extravagance from the British colonial period. It is linked to the station by an underground thoroughfare.”

“This building is another fine example of the British colonial adaptation of Moorish architecture. A.B. Hubback's work features arches, domes and minarets, creating a somewhat Byzantine "Arabian Nights" fantasy land. Completed in 1917, it underwent major renovations in 1986. The building is linked to the General Post Office at Dayabumi Complex by an underground thoroughfare. The railway station that used to be housed here has been transferred to the new Kuala Lumpur Central building.”

It had been a fantastic year but Pussy Galore was delighted to be paying a visit back home to London where she was reunited with her old friend Travel Ted and slightly less old friend Galen.

She certainly had lots to tell them about her adventures since she’d left England more than a year ago. In France with Mood she’d had an amazing seaside holiday, watched fireworks and learned jewellery-making and furniture-assembly. Pandamao had shown her all around Germany where she had met  lots of other Toy Voyagers including Galen. From there she travelled long-haul to Australia where she met even more Toy Voyagers and celebrated Christmas. In Japan, Yumi took her to a wonderful museum of modern art, she played in the snow, and received a chocolate for Valentine’s Day. In Taiwan with Icitaiwan, she saw lots of sights as well as visiting a huge shopping mall and learning to eat with chopsticks. Finally, Aliah showed her the sights in Malaysia. While she was there she learned lots about the local culture: she sat cross-legged on the floor, fasted for Ramadan, and celebrated its end with the most incredible array of edible treats.
