Today was a very fun day.
The weather was great so we decided to go for a walk by the sea side with the whole family. Mom, dad, the kids, and the toys (me and Skippy). Thessaloniki is the second biggest city of Greece (after Athens) and is build by the sea. This is me overlooking the sea and in the background is a view of the city Here I am in front of the Concert Hall Take a look at some photos we took by the sea side we walked by some tennis and basketball courts, some fountains and artificial waterfalls, many playgrounds (we had to stop to each and everyone of them for the kids to play...) Take a look at this rather spooky one! ... while in the sea there was a sailing contest What a great day! Hope you enjoyed my photos If the weather is as good tomorrow we'll go sightseeing again! Love Bella |

Hi again from Thessaloniki!
I had a great day on Sunday because we went sightseeing. The weather was really bad, it was snowing and freezing but we went to the city center. Normally there is always a traffic jam there, but because it was Sunday morning and all the shops where closed it was quite nice! So here are a couple of pictures of me and Skippy, driving to the city center. This is the main square of Thessaloniki. It is called "Aristotelous Square" named after the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle. We had to stop in Starbucks (love it) for a hot cup of coffee to keep us warm, and for a sweet snack! Then we went to see the "White Tower", the symbol of the town. It used to be a notorious prison and scene of mass executions during the period of Ottoman rule. It was substantially remodeled and its exterior was whitewashed after Greece gained control of the city in 1912, turning the former "Tower of Blood" into the present-day White Tower. Take a look at the Greek flag in the middle, the blue one with the white stripes. A fountain in the city center and the statue of Alexander the Great, king of Macedons (336–323 BC). He was one of the most successful military commanders of all time and is presumed undefeated in battle. Did you know that Thessaloniki is named after Alexander's sister "Thessaloniki"? It is the second-largest city in Greece and the capital of Macedonia, the nation's largest region. This is me in a real size "sarissa". The sarissa was a 4 to 7 meter (13-21 feet) long pike used in the ancient Greek warfare. It was used in the traditional Greek phalanx formation as a replacement for the earlier dory, which was considerably shorter. The sarissa, was very heavy for a spear, weighing over 5 kg (12 pounds). Can you find me in the photo? Then we went at the marina to see the sailing boats Sunday is a day for family gatherings, so grandma invited us for lunch. Here we are driving to go to her house.... can you see the snow outside the window? Oh, take a look what we had for lunch -souvlakia (meat on a stick) -kefte (mince balls) -salads (potato salad and cabbage/carrot/spinach salad) -sardines in the oven for those that prefer to eat fish Did you know that it's the carnival season in Greece?! More updates are coming soon.... |

Hi mom!
Today it was sunny and warm, so we went to a suburb of Thessaloniki, called Thermi. It's a small town and there is a dam there. The place is so calm and the ducks are so friendly! Take a look at the photos! Take a look at the path around the lake I also smelled a lot of flowers! Oh I love spring! And here I am with the whole gang at the slider of the playground. You know Skippy Kangaroo... the other four toys in the middle are new ones that my host is getting prepared for their first adventure in the Toyvoyager world! Love Bella |

Hello!
We just realised that we hadn't really had muh of a nose around our host's apartment and we also thought you might want to see their two cats so we've been taking some terrace pictures today. The black and white cat is called Felix and the grey one is Katie. They both love playing with card board boxes...yes the piece of card board Katie's on used to be a box Here you can get a bit better picture of her And one more with both of them Katja's boyfriend used to study horticulture and you can see that on their terrace, there are lots of different plants going there. Here are photos of some of them. strawberry Raspberry on the left and a curry plant on the right Some red very hot chili peppers Oxalis (or lucky clover as they call them in Finland) Aloe Vera Different herbs some plant growing on the sauna wall They've also got a small jacuzzi on their terrace And a sauna as well I've been told Dave, Katja's boyfriend built it as well as this barbeque Just one more photo of us and Katie And of course we had to add one of Felix then too Write more soon! |

Hello!
Today we've been to Los Cristianos. There was a Canarian food fair going but it wasn't quite as big as we had expected. We only got this photo from there: The fair was at the cultural centre and there was also a display of school kids recycle art Then we walked to the beach front near the port and sat there for a while Then we just walked around a bit Tomorrow we'll go to a classic car show. |
katjaintenerife katjaintenerife@yahoo.co.uk Posted Apr 26, 2009, 6:38 pm |
Hello!
Today we've been to a classic car show. I'll just put up some photos as I really don't know much about cars.. This is my Katja's boyfriend's car, a Mazda RX7 from 1981. There was also some live Canarian music there with dancers. We got a bit tired after so much standing and walking around so went to sit on the beach for a bit. And then some more cars again.. We went to see some surfers and waves while waiting for the show to finish and be able to get our car out. On Tuesday we'll go up north as long as Katja isn't too too tired after a 24 hour shift at work. |

Hello!
Today we've up Teide National Park. It's one of the Unesco heritages. Here's first a pink flower, there were loads of them on our way up and we stopped to take a photo of one And here's some yellow flowers Here's the view from one of the view points. It was a really cloudy day And here are some yellow poppies Here we are very close to the clouds And here we are already higher than the clouds And then we finally saw Teide They've filmed some scenes of Planet of the Apes and Star Wars up here And this is Teide from the north side The white things you can see on the background are observatories And some more clouds And then we went through the clouds For a bit we were above then again And then it was clear again, and everything's a lot greener on this side!! |

Hello!
Today there was something happening across the road as a fire engine arrived. In the end there wasn't a big fire there, maybe a cooking accident or something. A woman with a burnt arm was taken by an ambulance but nothing else. But still 2 different police forces arrived (local police and "guardia civil") to see what's going on. |

Hola!
Today we've been to a place called El Medano. It's a well known place among windsurfers eventhough we didn't get to see any windsurfers in action this time. I was told that it's always windy in En Medano but when we got there, it wasn't really that windy there at all. There are a couple of hotels in El Medano and lots of short term rental apartments as well. They get more Spanish tourists there than foreigners. This is me on a play area And that's us and the beach on the background. Don't worry, we'll go there soon Here you can see me and our friend Pasi who's here on holiday A bit of a seaview here again This little girl, Katja's friend's daughter was really exited about us |

Hi!
Today we've been to Katja's boyfriends work to walk the dog there and feed him and the cats. This is one of the cats, Arnie. He is Felix's (Katja's cat) brother This is the dog, Rey. He's getting a bit old now and we couldn't take a long walk with him as it was too hot for him. Dave works in a tool hire shop. Here are some of the tools/machines they've got for hire. Then we went to stables near Dave's work where Katja's work mate Liisa is working during her spare time. We even got to ride a horse! Here's the face of the horse Another horse here And another here too Here you can see a pony and a donkey that was really cute, and Liisa. Here's a closer photo of the donkey |
