Hello everyone!

My name is Meleca and I'm a brand new Brazilian TV.

At first I was a little afraid of traveling without my mom, but then she introduced me to Mortimer_ and he told me all the good points about being a TV.

Now I think that I'm ready to get my journey started.

I might not be the smallest TV you've ever seen, but I'm very thin and I can totally fit in an envelope.

Please, if you would like me to visit you, send a message to my mom!  ;)

Hi Mum,

Pinkz and I arrived at Rike’s home today – and there were dicker Kumpel, Slummy, Milala, Murph and Ninni just coming back from their cruise! They told us a lot of their adventures.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8540.jpg

Ninni ist the ToyVoyager of the week, we are all very excited and will have a party this week. She got beautiful flowers from Rike – we made a photo of both of us – and then I was allowed to have my own photo.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8538.jpg

Then I explored the garden – found funny birds – and nice flowers. I am sure, that I will have a nice time here.

Hi Mum,

Today we went to Bad Segeberg – a nice small town near to Rike’s home.

First we made a photo with this funny monument. Can you see, what it shows?

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8560.jpg

Then we visited the nice big sea and we saw ducks in it.

Back in Sülfeld – we found these nice flowers in the neighbor’s garden

Hi Mum,

We explored Sülfeld, the nice little village, where Rike lives. It has around 3000 inhabitants – and is situated between Lübeck and Hamburg in the North of Germany.

This is a nice little lake – we loved it, but it is not as big as the one we visited in Bad Segeberg.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8586.jpg

This is the old school – Rike never went to this school, but it is a beautiful building ! I thought, it was funnier, to lie on the back and watch the clouds...

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8591.jpg

Then we saw this nice church – it is very old – from 1207 – more than 800 years. I really like it !

Hi Mum,

Today we went to Hamburg, because we celebrated Ninni. She is the ToyVoyager of the week.

First we did some sightseeing, but not too much. We looked at the town hall – first from the front – with the little festival, where we wanted to celebrate.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8622.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8623.jpg

Then we went to the other side of the town hall, where a nice fountain is.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8636.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8637.jpg

Here you can see us all together – celebrating Ninni!! And me playing in the wine!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8644.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8649.jpg

We had wine and ate something delicious – called Flammkuchen. You see a photo before we started – and when we finished.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8659.jpg

Oups – maybe a little too much wine?

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8660.jpg

We really had a great time!!!

Hi Mum!

Last week we hadn’t had nice weather in Hamburg – so we tried it again today. And look, what we saw out of the window of our train – the sun!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8714.jpg

The town hall looks much nicer in the sunshine. And we saw the Alsterarkaden – they are very beautiful.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8720.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8725.jpg

Then we crossed the street and went to the Alster. There we saw the fountain and the nice boats. When we walked on the boarder of the lake, we saw swans and geese.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8735.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8746.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8750.jpg

This wonderful view is from the other side. Because we all loved this view, we wanted to have an own photo - and one from all of us!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8762.jpg

On the way back to the train station (on the second photo) we made a stop at the Kunsthalle – a museum of Art.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8769.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8772.jpg

Inside the station we waited for our train – and I wanted to show you the nice station!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8789.jpg

We entered the train and had a nice meal – what a great sunny trip!!!

Hi Mum,

we went to Lübeck. It is a nice city – in 1987 the Unesco declared the existing cityscape to be a World Cultural Heritage Site.  And it is a great city.

First we saw the Holsten Gate – it was on the 50-DM-bank-note of Germany. But now they have the Euro here.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8802.jpg

Next to the Gate are the Salt Warehouses.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8817.jpg

Then we climbed up the tower of the St. Peter’s Church. We had a lovely view of the city…

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8825.jpg

We saw some other nice buildings – and a funny animal.

When we arrived at home, a new ToyVoyager was waiting for us - she is called Rhinono and we talked a lot! She came from China – and had a very fast trip !

Hi Mum,

we went to the port of Hamburg today. Rike told us, that there are many beautiful ships.
We started at the Landungsbrücken – it is the place where the ships arrived in the past. In the other direction we saw nice old ships – we made nice pictures nearer to them later this day.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8860.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8861.jpg

On our way to the old ships we saw these colorful bikes. They are for rent, but we didn’t rent them. My legs are too short for these bikes.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8874.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8875.jpg

Then we saw this big anchor – can you see me in front of it?

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8877.jpg

This is the Rickmer Rickmers. In 1896 it was constructed as a three-master ship on Rickmer's shipyard in Bremerhaven. It was rebuilt to a three-master barque in Capetown in 1904 after having been damaged a heavy storm.
The Rickmer Rickmers was sailing between Europe and Chile, loaded mainly with carbon and nitre. In 1916 it was confiscated by the Portugueses. From this time on it was used as training ship for the Portuguese navy under the name SAGRES. In 1983 it was sold to the organization "Windjammer for Hamburg" and towed to Hamburg - as a fully dilapidated hulk (without masts).
After a restoration of several year the wrack became a neat symbol of the Hamburg harbour. Important facilities like the engine-room or the officers' cabins were restored with love. The ship can be visited daily.
Under deck there is a restaurant as well as a show room where interesting, often changing exhibitions of maritime contents can be seen.
We didn’t want to see the inside – so we only took nice photos from the outside.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8887.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8888.jpg

This is the other old ship. The Cap San Diego, built in 1961, is a unique testimony to seafaring and is berthed in her old home harbor of Hamburg as a »museum you can touch« since 1986. She is the last of the classic cargo ships, referred to as the "White Swan of the South Atlantic."

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8903.jpg

This is the look over the port where a swimming crane came along.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8901.jpg

At the end we saw the fire-ship – and on the other side a huge building, where a big publisher has his rooms. The church you can see behind the building is called ‘The Michel’ and is a very famous church for the people from Hamburg.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8911.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8913.jpg

I really loved this day at the port. Hamburg is a wonderful city!

Hi Mum,

we went to the cruise ship terminal in Hamburg today.  That was the big tower – we will have a nice view of the ship, when we are on the tower.
http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8966.jpg

But you can see, what happened. We saw the building, but there was no cruise ship.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8972.jpg

Then I looked in another direction and found a beautiful ship. We all decided that we wanted to play on it.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8977.jpg

We played hide and seek. I was the first who run away and I found a great place to hide.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8987.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8983.jpg

After it we wanted a photo on the ship. First we were on the deck…

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8994.jpg

…then we climbed onto the mast. We had a nice view from there! We talked and enjoyed the sun!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8996.jpg

We decided to have a race to the swing. Rhinono had the best start – she jumped – and won. We others climbed down the mast. Rhinono is very brave!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8991.jpg

On the swing we had a great time. Playgrounds are great for ToyVoyagers.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_8998.jpg

At the end I relaxed in the hammock. What a wonderful day in Hamburg again!

Hi Mum,

It is Sunday – and we made a tour with the bike. We made a rest at a nice place. You can see me on the bike.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9063.jpg

Here you can see all of us – we had so much fun together on the bike!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9088.jpg

Look – how long our way was!

Some miles later we saw these nice horses.

Back home Rike showed us, how the corn looks like, when you buy it in a shop.

Hello Mum,

we went to Hamburg –there is a big fair – called Dom. First we looked around and saw many people and carrousels. One was for children; the next one was very interesting – so fast moves…

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9172.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9135.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9145.jpg

Then I was very afraid – a white shark came from the side. Fortunately I found out that he was a friendly shark – and I was allowed to make this scary photo!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9153.jpg

That was amazing. I needed to eat something – and found delicious strawberries with chocolate.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9167.jpg

We then saw the big roller coaster with two loops. I didn’t want to try it out…

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9169.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9170.jpg

Look at this funny corn-man. I loved him!!!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9154.jpg

Later we saw a boat trip – the people became wet in it – it was funny.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9179.jpg

We wanted a nice photo of the group and found this funny place. After it, we bought a nice heart from Hamburg.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9183.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9188.jpg

When we walked around we saw the big wheel. It is really big – the biggest big wheel, that can travel around the world. Maybe it is a Big Wheel Voyager?

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9194.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9142.jpg

I wanted to make a trip with the big wheel – and we went into it. I had to hold the hand of Tobi, because he was a little afraid. (Or maybe I was a little scared, because it was so high.) We saw many interesting things from Hamburg from high above - the Dom, the Port and the church Michel. It was great!

What a wonderful day!!!! We went back home and relaxed on the couch.

Hello Mum,

ThomasHH and BineHH came back from nowhere with the help of Dicker Kumpel and a magic hippo. They were both lost – what a bad experience. We all hope, that we never will have this experience. We are so happy that they are back!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9326.jpg

We talked about our trips and came to the topic of cruise ships. RikeH told us about a big ship that will be in Hamburg today. It is called Queen Mary 2. We couldn’t believe how big it is. length: 1132 feet / 345 meters, Height 236 feet 2 inches / 72 meters.  Passengers: 2620 (3090 max). We think that maybe all TVs could travel on it at the same time. That would be a party.

We decided to go to Hamburg again – and see the QM2 in reality. But first we saw a model –it is not really big…

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9277.jpg

We went to the Cruise Terminal – you remember – I have been there last week, when there wasn’t any ship. Wow – the QM2 is really big!!!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9245.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9246.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9268.jpg

In the afternoon we went to the port again, because we wanted to see the ship, when it was in action on the river Elbe. We waited…

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9283.jpg

Then it came – it is amazing!!!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9292.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9304.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9308.jpg

I think, I should go on a cruise soon – maybe we can do it together, Mum?

Hello mum from Scotland - home of haggis, kilts and bagpipes! You'll be glad to know that my journey was not too long and that I arrived safely - here's me just after arrival.

http://i32.tinypic.com/23ii1eg.jpg

After a short nap I was introduced to the rest of the TV crew here in Scotland - oh my, what a lot of us there is. From left to right here we are MrCoolHH, Chance, Ronnie, Meleca, Rocky & Jennifer.

http://i26.tinypic.com/w2150.jpg

However Jennifer is leaving us soon, so that's a pity. All the TVs told me what they had been up to so far here in Scotland - trips to Perth, Carnoustie, Dundee....visits to the beach and restaurants and just relaxing in the local village. I can't wait to get started!

Seems like I've come at a great time, tomorrow (if Eilidh can work out how to take us all - not easy transporting 5/6 toys) we are going to Edinburgh, the capitol city of Scotland!

I also met Eilidh's dog Archie on arrival - he's a west highland white terrier, a traditional Scottish dog. He seems friendly but very curious about all of us toys!

So until later bye!

Hi Mum,

Today it is time for sports – not for me, of course. with Dicker Kumpel and I went to the HSV – a German soccer team. The best of course, Dicker Kumpel told me!

We went into the stadium. It is really big. Before the match started, all players were on the field for the warm-up.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMAG0148.jpg

We had nice places – but later much more people came to watch the match.

At the end, our team lost – bad luck…. But it was interesting – and better than watching it in the TV.

Hello Mum,

A friend of RikeH needed a new lamp for his flat. He asked me to help him to find the right one. We went to a lamp store. Wow there are a lot of lamps!!!

I loved a red lamp, but RikeHs friend decided to buy this one. It is really funny – it looks like an unidentified flying object.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9232.jpg

Help, I think it is an UFO…… it is flying away with me....

Hi Mum,

Today was a busy day.
First Nippy arrived. We gave him a warm welcome and talked a lot.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/IMG_9401.jpg

And in the evening, I told the other TVs that I will leave tomorrow. We were very sad, because we had such a nice time together.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9404.jpg

The other gave me a big hug.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9409.jpg

Then I said good-bye to Dicker Kumpel. He was a great host – I will miss him.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%20Gaeste/IMG_9406.jpg

Now I am on my way to Scotland – and I really hope to have a nice time there!

Yesterday was so very exciting here in Scotland. It rained all day but that did not put a dampner on things. First we had to hop on to the bus and travel to Edinburgh. Here are all us TVs being looked after by Eilidh's friend.

http://i28.tinypic.com/24ot21d.jpg

We were going to Edinburgh (the capitol city of Scotland, and a really lovely city - Eilidh's birthplace!) to see the African Children's Choir perform. I was pretty excited about seeing them as I'd heard they were good and very inspiring.

http://i25.tinypic.com/35bi3xg.jpg

Unfortunately cameras were not permitted in the show - but it was wonderful, if you want to find out more about the choir be sure to look them up on google.

http://i25.tinypic.com/64plkk.jpg

After seeing the choir it was time for a quick snack, so we headed to Starbucks where drinks and cookies were enjoyed by all.

http://i27.tinypic.com/f9v1t.jpg

Now we had been fed it was time for a little sightseeing - Eilidh did photo us with Edinburgh castle, however the weather was so gross that it's hard to make out. She says if you really want to see the picture or have a thing for castles then to let her know and she'll post them.

http://i28.tinypic.com/311q2c7.jpg

http://i32.tinypic.com/a2d4lg.jpg

http://i32.tinypic.com/2bzn6q.jpg

Because the festival is on in Edinburgh at the moment there are lots of funny signs posted around the city - apparently it's art? We found this one funny and fitting, seeing as we TVs are all tourists!

http://i32.tinypic.com/3008vgk.jpg

It was soon time to head home, so we walked to the bus station and waited for a bit. On the bus on the way home as we were crossing the Forth Road Bridge we got a lovely view of the rail bridge - so of course we could not resist a few photos!

Oh my mum, you must be worried about me! I'm fine though so don't worry! I've just been at home here in Earlsferry relaxing for a week or two whilst Eilidh was super busy at school etc. However we toy voyagers decided enough was enough and made a protest to Eilidh.

http://i28.tinypic.com/2gwgppl.jpg

It seems to have worked though because look, I've updated! Although I'm having to help Eilidh out a lot with the typing (and it's still super slow!) because yesterday she broke her wrist by falling down some stairs.

http://i29.tinypic.com/2w6s368.jpg

So to get over that excitement we wrote some postcards for postcrossing - which if you are not already a member of, I'd thoroughly recommend it.

http://i28.tinypic.com/14npm49.jpg

Here I am looking at some of the cards Eilidh has received - they come from all around the world and it's very exciting!

Update you soon - I promise!

This morning we have been having a lesson - I've learned loads! Yesterday Eilidh received a package from Rocky Squirrel's owner, Darcie. It was some state quarters.

http://i36.tinypic.com/2aipuee.jpg

It was very exciting because Eilidh collects them, and these ones helped her almost (only have around 10 states to go!) finish the collection.

http://i34.tinypic.com/e1aeyp.jpg

That got all us TVs thinking about British currency. You get loads of coins here, here we are with all the coins (minus a 50p as Eilidh couldn't find one).

http://i34.tinypic.com/azjgba.jpg

Starting from the left you have a £1, 20p, 10p, 5p, 2p, 1p. Similar to American currency apart from here they use coins for £1 rather than the $1 note. Here they have 50p's as well which would be like 2 quarters, and those coins are really quite big.

Then we looked at some notes. In the UK you get £100, £50, £20, £10 and £5 notes. Here we are with a £20 and a £10. These are Scottish notes, as opposed to English ones - and although Scotland and England both use the British Pound as it's currency if you tried to spend a Scottish note in England the shop assistant would act as if it was foreign money and probably have to ask their manager if they 'accept these'.

http://i34.tinypic.com/rh8nxe.jpg

With the exchange rate as it is with the £30 we are photo'd with here we could get around $50. I guess that's why so many Brit's go to the US for shopping - it's just SO much cheaper.

We helped Eilidh put up the new quarters on her American map and admired our handy work. It's looking good. :)

Until later!

WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO! The October holidays are here - two weeks off school for Eilidh. Perhaps even more exciting though is what happens in two days time - I set off with Eilidh on a school trip (for 10 days!) to China!

Whilst Eilidh has been finishing off at school we have been watching some British television. You get so many channels and shows here, it's fascinating.

http://i34.tinypic.com/24ebds4.jpg

This morning we went to the post office to pick up the Chinese curancy - Yuan. Here we are counting it out - do we look excited yet?

http://i37.tinypic.com/2hrixdg.jpg

How about now?! We are almost all packed! Not that we will be going in the suitcase mind you, we TVs are far too important and will be travelling with Eilidh in her hand luggage, so when we return be sure to check out our photos from on the plane.

http://i33.tinypic.com/2sbv8l1.jpg

In China there are so many things we will be doing, here is a brief itenairy if you want to keep track.

Monday - Leave Glasgow airport, 14 hour flight (AHHH!) to Dubai. Arrive in Dubai at around midnight on Tuesday.

Tuesday - Fly from Dubai (an 8 hour flight, AHHH x2!) to Beijing. Arrive at hotel in Beijing at around 5pm, evening meal and bed.

Wednesday - Excursion to the Great Wall, Sacred Road and Ming Tombs. At night we will be seeing a Chinese acrobatic show.

Thursday - Trip to Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City and the Chinese Imperial Palace. Afternoon visit to Hutongs with a rickshaw ride. Going on the overnight train to Xi'an.

Friday - Visit to the terracotta army museum, huaqing hot springs and a local market. At night we will be seeing the 'Tang Dynasty Show'.

Saturday - Visit to the wild goose pagoda and the Xi'an city wall. Overnight train back to Beijing.

Sunday - Visit to the summer palace, the 'bird's nest' Olympic stadium and Beijing zoo (to see the pandas!) At night we will be seeing a Kung Fu show.

Monday - Morning visit to a Chinese high school to compare lifestyles, afternoon trip to the silk market. Fly home.

Arrive home on the Tuesday at around 3pm.

I'll be sure to photo lots for you mum - sounds like it's going to be VERY action packed!

As you can imagine China was amazing, we did and saw so many things that it would take far too long to write about it all or even to upload all the photos, so Eilidh has compiled a short video on us TVs in China.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDCnQRFAU7c

You'll have to copy paste the link.

If you want any of the photo's individually, just let Eilidh know!

I also completed a life mission - I definitely saw some of the most beautiful landscapes and gardens in the world.

What an exciting arrival! I arrived in Porvoo only to be grabbed to Helsinki  :o My host was leaving for a Postcrossing meetup and took me with her. And the other tv's she has. We introduced each other in the buss to Helsinki  :D There's Gary Boldie, Banyo, Leonard and Hueso. The rest of the toys you see are other people's tv's.

The meetup was held in a café next to the main post office. I heard it's their regular meeting point - and yes, the coffee was tasty  :) These people are into postcards. They meetup for a chat, coffee and writing postcards. They had lots of fun - so much that the waiter had to ask them to leave as they were closing!

It was dark allready but my host took a few photos for me. She said she'd come for another meetup after a week and that we could take more photos in daylight then.

Apparently I arrived for a busy weekend! My host's daughters had a birthday party and I helped making the cakes. We made number 8 and a rainbow. Outside she had made ice balloons  :stare: She had filled latex balloons with water and put outside and after a day or two (depending on the temperature) there were ice balloons. They looked really cool and festive!  There was also a disco - with disco balls! My host was too busy hosting the party that she didn't take more photos - but I can assure you I had fun  :D

Finally I got to see the surroundings! This is me by the Baltic Sea :) It's so thickly frozen we could walk on it  :stare: This really is the beginning of the Baltic Sea, there just is so much archipelago that you can't really see it. Nearby is the island where the creator of Moomins (Tove Jansson) used to spend her summers. No wonder Moominpappa loves the sea!

It's so cold that my host remembered to introduce me to the Finnish Sauna  :D In Finland every household has a sauna - or in case of a block of flats, then there usually is one sauna for the whole highhouse. Anyway. This is my host's sauna.

Sauna is a room that you heat up (there are saunas that are heated with wood and saunas that are heated with electricity), preferably 60-80 degrees Celsius (that varies, some people like it even hotter). Then you take a shower (just to get wet, it's not pleasant to be dry in a sauna) before you enter the sauna (naked!). In sauna you just sit and relax and maybe throw some water on the hot stones (to get more heat and steam). Sauna relaxes your muscles and opens your skin pores, which makes you clean from the inside  :)

After a while (when you feel like it) you go to the shower again to get wet and re-enter the sauna. You can repeat it as many times as you want. In the end you shower to wash yourself.

In summerhouses people also have saunas. There it's tradition to make (or buy) a birch whisk with which you beat yourself gently in the sauna. The whisk has the leaves on so it won't hurt.

There are saunas in gyms and swimming halls but there men & women are divided in separate saunas. Otherwise, with friends and family, it's normal to go to sauna together.

Finns even have a Sauna Society!

I finally got to go for a small sightseeing. This is the Old Porvoo. The small bridge is the first built in Porvoo. The red shorehouses serve as storage and living quarters nowadays. They are the most well-known attraction of this city. The hill you see in the 2nd photo is called Castle Hill and there used to be a castle/fort hundreds of years ago. Now only thing that is left there is the hill and the castle moats.

Porvoo has had at least one wellknown artist living and painting here: Albert Edelfelt. He painted many pictures in and about Porvoo. On this riverbank you can see a poster made of the picture he painted there.

After seeing the Old Town for "across the river" I got to do some window-shopping in it!  :D There are many specialized small shops in Old Town. Mainly handicrafts. The first shop we photographed is called Riimikko and it sells toys that are made of wood and tin etc. Basically everything else but plastic. In that open space in the middle of the photos is a market place. It's full of different booths in the summer, selling all sorts of crafts. That "box" that is painted with clothes is one of many (and this one's the biggest): the local art school kids got to paint over the electricity boxes to make them look nicer (before they were dull grey/brown). Their theme was shops :)

My host attended yet another Postcrossing meetup in Helsinki. She said it's her last in a longer while because she has to cut expenses... But that's what she said on the meetup before this one...

I met some celebrities! The Post had issued stamps if old Finnish rock (& pop)stars and most of them were there to give autographs  :o My host is too young to be a fan but she got some autographs anyway  :p

There were lead singers from Popeda, and Mamba! Plus one woman: Maarit.

In the group photo  (taken by Huppu68 as my host missed that) are also the designers of the new stamps: Minni Havas, Klaus Welp and Inge Löök (also famous for her granny postcards). Klaus Welp is the one who designed the rock stamps.
Group photo from left to right: Mamba-singer (Tero Vaara), Minni Havas, Yö-singer (Olli Lindholm), Klaus Welp, Maarit, Popeda-singer (Pate Mustajärvi, he was really nice to my host) and Inge Löök.

My host was too distracted by the celebrities and the meetup that she forgot to give me a sightseeing tour!  :o  :(

Instead she took me to this Post Museum at the Main Post Office in Helsinki. There's an ongoing exhibition of Finnish Post  - how mail was delivered in the past, stamps, postcards... etc.

"The Post Museum exhibits, researches and preserves implements and material connected with the over 370-year history and the present of Finnish postal service."

This is what Wikipedia has to say about the history of Finnish Post:
In the war of 1808-1809, Russian troops conquered Finland. The country had formerly belonged to Sweden and was annexed to the Russian empire at the Peace Treaty of Hamina on September 17th, 1809. Finland became an autonomous Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire. The Russian Tsar Alexander I (1801-1825) promised that Finland could uphold the existing religion, the basic laws and privileges of the social order.

Finland was allowed to manage its affairs and employment of its own civil servants. A parliament began to assemble from the year 1863 - the same year where Finnish language got official status and became equal with the Swedish language. In 1865, Finland got its own currency - pen and mark - which quickly turned out to be stronger than the Russian Rouble. From the 1860s, trading - import and export - grow rapidly. Population grew from 1 million in 1809 to over 3 million by the end of WW1.
Commemorative honoring Leevi Madetoja, 1987

When Alexander III ascended the throne in 1881, a process of making Finland a more integrated part of the empire started - many attacks were made in the Russian public on the special rights of the Finnish people and efforts were undertaken to abolish these special rights granted to them, and by many small steps this led to the Russification of the Finnish Post.

Today there was also an exhibition of one postcard artist (he does other stuff too) Osmo \"Omppu\" Omenamäki. The posters and most of the cards in the iddle are made by him.

I got to do my own stamps in the museum too - too bad it only got printed on paper  :)

There was also posters about Postcrossing! The blue framed posters at the end of the photos...

Hello :)!

Today we went to the Margarethenhöhe. It is a part of Essen.

Here are some infos of wikipedia:

Gartenstadt Margarethenhöhe: Founded by Margarethe Krupp in 1906, the garden city with its 3092 units in 935 buildings on an area of 115 ha (284.2 acres) (of which 50 ha are woodland) is considered the first of its kind in Germany. All buildings follow the same stylistic concept, with slight variations for each one. Although originally designed as an area for the lower classes with quite small flats, the old part Margarethenhöhe I has developed into a middle class residential area and housing space has become highly sought after. A new part, Margarehenhöhe II, was built in the 1960s and 1970s but is architecturally inferior and especially the multi-storey buildings are still considered social hot spots.

And finally some photos of me:

Today we went to the water castle in Borbeck. Borbeck is a part of Essen.

Here some informations from Wikipedia:

Schloss Borbeck is the central cultural institution of both borough and district. An institution of the cultural office of the city of Essen, it regularly hosts exhibitions and concerts. A permanent exhibition on the history of the abbey  and the city  has been established in 2006. Essen's public music school has been conducting classes here since 1999. The register office has set up a special room for marriages. The 55 ha (135.9 acres) park is open to the public and the largest park in the northwestern part of Essen. A street nowadays separates a smaller part in front of the castle from the rest of the park; this smaller part mostly consists of hilly lawns and includes a former boxing  arena, which is now used for concerts.

Today we visited the Landschaftspark in Duisburg. Here some infos from wikipedia:
Landschaftspark is a public park located in Duisburg Nord, Germany. It was designed in 1991 by Latz + Partner, with the intention that it work to heal and understand the industrial past, rather than trying to reject it. The park closely associates itself with the past use of the site: a coal and steel production plant (abandoned in 1985, leaving the area significantly polluted) and the agricultural land it had been prior to the mid 19th century.

Today we visited the abbey Saarn in Mülheim, which is close to Essen. I don’t know something about the abbey, but it is on the Industrial road. It was built in 1214.

Behind me you can see the Henrichshütte in Hattingen.

Hattingen became part of the Hanseatic League in 1554 and became an important trading town. In 1720, there were 52 operating coal mines within the municipal area and Hattingen became one of the first industrial cities of the Ruhr region. Steel production started in 1853, when the Henrichshütte was founded. The Henrichshütte became one of the most important employers of the whole region and dominated the town until it closed in 1987.

I'm on the road again!!!
Together with 5 other TVs I travelled to another host who will now take care of us and who will reorganise my journey.
3 TVs, Muumipeikko, Miegalyteand Lupus-Tigger gave us a nice welcome.

When Katrin came home today she was really happy. She has finished her Bachelor'S Thesis and now she has finally at lot of free time again. That's got for me and the other TVs because we hope that she will spend a lot of time with us now. ;)

We are visiting Katrin's boyfriend this weekend. He lives in a small town in the state Niedersachsen. While he is at work, we had a walk through the town.

The first thing that caught my eye was the different landscape. In every direction you can see hills.

Nature is everywhere. Here we are sitting in a stone wall. Maybe it was part of the wall of the castle, but Katrin doesn't know anything about it.

Aren't these roses wonderful?

Some of the buildings in the city center are really old. This one is from the 17th century.

The mascot of the city: a donkey! There is a story behind it, but we couldn't find any information about it.

Then we came closer to the castle which is the center of the town. This is the watchtower...

... and  this is the view at the castle. It is not easy to take a good photo of it because everything is really narrow.

Our group is getting smaller and smaller. Jelle left us already last week and today we said goodbye to Bruno and TravelingTuffy.

I'm already in my box for my journey back home! I was too fast for Katrin to take a goodbye photo with the other TVs.
I'm looking forward to see you again. Then we can tick the box with the life mission "return home safely". :)
See you soon!
