Hi Mum,

I arrived at the place, where I will live for a while. Pinky Bear hugged me, when she saw me. She is really nice. She told me, that she will show me on the map, where I am now and then she will crawl in her package to come to you. I think, she's really excited, just as much as I am.
We shared that candy bar and it was yummy. My host said thank you for the bar and postcard.

Hugs, Brinda

My host said, that I brought sun to her home and she seems to be right. It is a really sunny evening.

Do you see that house on the left side with the interesting front? It is called Sancta Maria.

The house with the long roof is the music school, where my host, her daughter and her son take singing lessons. Maybe I will join them next time

It is a wonderful sunny Saturday and I'm happy to go out for a walk a bit, after my host had been in her bed all day, because she had a bad headache. It is still rather warm here.

At first I met the fisher of men.

The Philippsburg Nuclear Power Plant is located in Philippsburg in Karlsruhe, built in 1970 years. It houses two units. It's not all fantastic of course. They talk about illness here, especially leukemia, not sure, if it comes from the Nuclear Power.

The spots of houses in the far belong to Bruchsal. Bruchsal is located at the edge of the Kraichgau hill country and the Rhine Valley.
The houses on the right side also belong to Bruchsal, they belong to a industrial area.

While my host's daughter is in the outside swimming pool of Bruchsal, we decided to have lunch at a restaurant. So we walked through the pedestrian zone of Bruchsal. On the left side I saw an old restaurant called 'Ratskeller'.

Walking on I saw the old city hall on the left side, which soon will be a shopping center and there is the city church (Stadtkirche Unsere liebe Frau - Our holy lady).

The maypole is a tall wooden pole erected to celebrate May Day. It may be a semi-permanent feature, standing in position year-round until it has to be repainted or replaced, or it may be a shorter, temporary structure. It may be decorated with several long coloured ribbons suspended from the top, festooned with flowers, draped in greenery, hung with large circular wreaths, or adorned with other symbols or decorations, depending on local and regional variances.

In the afternoon my hosts and I drove to Karlsruhe to do some shopping. They wanted to buy some books and cds - you wonder, why they still want to buy such things, because there house already is a little book and cd shop. Karlsruhe is about 20 km from Bruchsal.:)

They went shopping in a house, that's called Ettlinger Tor. There are many different shops in this shopping center.

I learnt how to bake a cake today. It is called lazy women cake "Faule Weiber-Kuchen". I will try to tell you the recipe:

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4068/4653354450_a13c7ff1b6.jpg

200g flour

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4042/4652735767_8c4d07d672.jpg
atishoo!

75g sugar

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4068/4653354866_d31dff8037.jpg

1egg

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4014/4652736327_a6c89c3c10.jpg

75g margarine

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4008/4652736577_2855a9394f.jpg

1 teaspoon baking powder

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4071/4652736999_e7ec67b5cb.jpg

Then I had to knead the dough.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4058/4653356142_9707dc15fb.jpg

It had been such a hard work, that I needed a rest. I asked my host to switch the tv on, so I had been able to watch the Eurovision Song Contest.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4041/4652737507_662d823d37.jpg
Safura from Azerbaijan

Wow, there are many people watching the Contest  - and I'm alone:(

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/4652737745_3c109becc2.jpg

Oh, my host is calling. I have to help her searching for ingredients we need for the filling. I need: 500g curd, 2 eggs, 140g sugar, 1 sachet of vanilla pudding, 1/2 tub of sour cream, 1/2 cup of oil, 1 and 1/2 cup of milk, 1 small tin of mandarines - but we have to take ananas, because there is no mandarine tin to find in the house.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4053/4652737975_d539b86b89.jpg

While my host stirred at first the curd, eggs and sugar and in another dish the vanilla powder, oil, sour cream and milk and gave both in one dish then, I had to hurry, because I wanted to be back and hear the Norwegian singer Didrik Solli-Tange - a cute guy :)

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4015/4652738171_aaa6424793_b.jpg

Oh, this must be Milan Stanković from Serbia. At first I wondered, if this is a boy or a girl.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4007/4653357094_403781b069.jpg

My host is calling again. The dough must be put in the dish and the filling had to be done in it. The filling is rather fluent, but my host told me, that this is ok.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4072/4653357460_98d60270d4.jpg

We gave it in the oven, 180°c for 50 minutes and when it was done, we still let it in the oven for a while, but without heat. In the meantime we both watched the Contest. Niamh Kavanagh sang for Ireland and she did very well, although she only had a few votes at the end.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4006/4653357654_0d75cc58f7.jpg

Ok, here come the missing photos. My host deleted all the photos with my other toyvoyager friends. We sat there with mini German flags from now on and kept our fingers or something crossed for the German singer Lena and 'Satellite'. Maybe we will do a reproduction sometime this week, because they recorded the show.

In the evening I went for a walk to the graveyard and saw the house Sancta Maria from the backside. We had to hurry home, because it started to rain and when we arrived at the house it rained heavily. We even took photos at home showing so many paintings of different artists - gone, but not forever

Finally it is early evening and we are on the way to Frankfurt a.M. airport to fetch my hosts' son, Umechan and Kari.
The weather was terrible. There was a thunderstorm and we hardly could see anything on the road.

Karlsruhe is the third largest city after Stuttgart and Mannheim of Baden-Württemberg. It is about 20km from Bruchsal and located near the French-German border.

Founded in 1715 as Karlsruhe Palace, the surrounding town became the seat of two of the highest courts in Germany, the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany (Bundesverfassungsgericht) whose decisions have the force of a law, and the Federal Court of Justice of Germany (Bundesgerichtshof), the highest court of appeals in matters of civil law and criminal law. It therefore considers itself the home of justice in Germany, a role taken over from Leipzig after 1933.

It is said[weasel words] to be model city for the cityscape of Washington D.C., due to similarities to the US capital city. Both cities have a center—in Karlsruhe the palace and in D.C. the Capitol Building—from which the streets lead away like sunrays.

Karlsruhe Palace (German: Karlsruher Schloss) was erected in 1715 by Margrave Karl Wilhelm of Baden-Durlach, after a dispute with the citizens of his previous capital, Durlach. The city of Karlsruhe has since grown around it.

Today the weather was really warm and sunny. In the early evening we decided to go on a walk to the graveyard, which is only a few meters from our home, next to the church St. Peter. I had been here the other day, when my host deleted all the photos by accident. The graveyard is really large, with many trees and it isn't easy to walk there, if you are handicapped, because many ways are very steep.

I will tell you, what's written on the sign: A memorial stone in the cementery is a reminder of the citizens of Bruchsal, who were victims of the Baden Revolution. It was erected on the initiative Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and dedicated on 1 November 1900. Here next to the church you can see the grave of Johann Baptist Bekk. He was Minister of the Interior in Baden during the years of the revolution and, after his death, found his final resting place in Bruchsal.

I've seen his grave the other day (22 May) and got a photo taken with it already.

Here's what's written on the sign:
The institute Sancta Maria was opened in 1908 and was an evolution of an earlier church-social institution. In 1981 it became a private school for social pedagogy. Since 1988 it has also run the first German Kindergarten Museum, which is located in the neighbouring building.

Today we went to the Bruchsal palace. It is colder again, but still we have sun. The weather phenomenon we have right now is called Schafskälte (sheeps cold). It is a cold spell around 11th June (between 4th and 20th June) in Middle Europe, which affects especially Germany. The Schafskälte doesn't occur each year. Due to cold and moist air from north west the temperature drops to 5 to 10 °C. So far about the weather:)

The palace of Bruchsal was residence of the prince bishop of Speyer. It was built on request of prince bishop Damian Hugo Philipp von Schönborn-Buchheim from 1720 on in baroque stile. It was destoyed on 1rst March 1945, when about 80% of Bruchsal was destroyed and many people lost their lives. It was reconstructed in the years around 1970, but the church part was created in modern stile:(

There are several interesting museums in the palace: City Museum, Stone Age Museum and the
German Museum of Musical Automata

There are two long alleys with chestnut trees.

I will read, what's written on the sign: This fountain was built in memory of Marchioness Amalie von Baden (1754 - 1832), spouse of margrave Karl Ludwig von Baden. She found her place in history as "mother-in-law of Europe", because she managed to marry five of her six daughters off to the most powerful prince's palaces of Europe. When she was widowedshe made Schloss Bruchsal one of her homes in the year 1806. She died there in 1832.
The fountain was planned by Prof. Dr. Fritz Hirsch (1871 - 1938) in 1912. He was in charge of the redecoration of the Schloss Bruchsal in the early days of the 20th century.

We're baking white bread today. It is a recipe, which my host's grandfather wrote down a long long time ago.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4116/4738484312_83b56f5e8e_b.jpg

You need 1 kilogram flour.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4137/4738484434_50f1f085db_b.jpg

one sachet dried or half fresh yeast.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4073/4737849907_effa8d4b72_b.jpg

25gr salt

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4118/4738484738_38f66765b8_b.jpg

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4137/4738484930_3cac20193e_b.jpg

25gr margarine or one cooked potatoe, shredded.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4075/4738485090_e5519ba397_b.jpg

If you use dried yeast you add all ingredients together, so you add all the water at once: 600 ml water

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4114/4738485272_bed61c0090_b.jpg

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4100/4738485452_77b73ff3e2_b.jpg

Knead the dough.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4079/4738485656_4babbb1378_b.jpg

Then we had to wait and wait and wait. After a while our host put the dough in the oven: preheat 220°C, water in a dish on the bottom of the oven. Oh yes, she did the dough in a dish and cut the middle of the bread and brushed salt water on the loaf, but we didn't see that. It was in the oven for about three quarters of an hour.

The houses in the far on the right side belong to Bruchsal and the quarry pond to Untergrombach. When my host was a teenager, she loved to swim there.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4122/4775150336_c2d8b3d123_b.jpg

You see, that the left side shows a flat landscape, this is the Rhine Valley. Bruchsal and Untergrombach are located at the edge of the Rhine Valley to Kraichgau hill country.

You also see, that the grass is very dry. By the way: This grass is called Magerrasen, nitrogen-poor  sward/grassland or species rich sward.

If it wouldn't be so misty, you could see the Palatinate Mountains at the horizon.

Here's what you can read: This tower is the remain of the old castle, which was built in 11th century by the count von Hohenberg, extended in 12th century and 1279 destroyed by Konrad von Lichtenberg, bishop of Strasbourg. The keep was built between 1230 and 1250.

FIESA is a mega exhibition of sand sculptures held since 2003 in Pêra, Algarve, that in each new edition is dedicated to a different theme. The festival is unique in the Iberian Peninsula and is considered the largest sand sculpture festival in the world, by the size of its sculptures and the area they occupy.

This years theme of inspiration is the LIVING WORLD, the fauna and flora of the five continents, since prehistory to the present day.

Finally it's Thursday morning and we drove to our hotel in the Bavarian Forest. On our way there we stopped at the Railway museum in Nuremberg – Nürnberg in German. It was raining heavily, when we arrived there. Many other people had the same idea and so we had to stay in a queue outside in the rain for several minutes until it was our turn to pay the tickets. We only looked at the big trains, though, because our hosts already have seen the other rooms of exhibitions and said, that it is just too crowded today. We are sorry for the bad photos, but the light made taking photos really difficult.

The Walhalla is a hall of fame  that honors laudable and distinguished Germans, famous personalities in German history — politicians, sovereigns, scientists and artists of the German tongue. The hall is housed in a neo-classical building above the Danube River, east of Regensburg, in Bavaria, Germany.

The Walhalla was conceived in 1807 by Crown Prince Ludwig, who built it upon ascending the throne of Bavaria as King Ludwig I. Construction took place between 1830 and 1842, under the supervision of architect Leo von Klenze.

The Walhalla displays some 65 plaques and 130 busts of persons, covering 2,000 years of history — the earliest person honored is Arminius, victor at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest (9 CE).

The weather is rather bad - a lot of rain is falling down on us. So at first we had to decide, what to do with this day. Then our hosts remembered, that they wanted to visit a Bärwurzerei and that they could do so on a day like this. We drove to Bad Kötzting. Bärwurz - baldmoney- is an ornamental plant and they use it to make Schnaps - hard liquor-  out of it. Our hosts told us, that they don't like to drink it, but they wanted to buy some other Schnaps and liquor.

At first we read about the Bärwurz.

The parish church Maria Himmelfahrt is the centre of the defence buildings with exterior circular wall, moat and interior ring. The church was mentioned in a pope certificate in 1179, extented in 1737/38. Inside it is baroque with a high altar from 1771 and pulpit from 1730.

My hosts found an interesting place to visit for today: Die gläserne Scheune - the glass barn. It is a barn, which Rudolf Schmidt and his family bought to make it a really special place. The inside walls of the barn are glass and he and other family members painted on the glass. You can see different stories on the glass:
about the "Mühlhiasl"
about Saint Francis and more.
It is a really fascinating place and we can all recommend to go there, when you visit the Bavarian Forest and are close to Viechtach.

Under the way there are stations to learn more about nature - here coats of different animals. I was so shocked, when I saw a coat of a bunny there too.

Our real destination was to go on top of the Großer Arber - great Arber. Großer Arber (German for Great Arber, Czech: Velký Javor) is the highest peak of the Bavarian-Bohemian-mountain ridge, with an elevation of 1,456 metres (4,777 ft). Although geographically belonging to the Bohemian Forest, it is often referred to as "King of the Bavarian Forest". Just enjoy the views:)

After a few minutes drive by car we arrived at the Großer Arbersee - big Arbersee. Großer Arbersee is a lake at an elevation of 935 m, its surface area is 7.7 ha. It's about 10 000 years old. At its west side the water surface is covered by about 2 hectare swinging grass. Over thousands of years these swinging grass islands reached a thickness of between 1 and 3 meters. So much about information, now I just want to show you some photos. I really enjoyed to walk around the lake.

Back at the hotel we all were really tired, but also much too excited. We saw a thunderstorm coming and we all had been really afraid of it, but our hosts wanted to sit on the balcony and told us to relax a bit on the balustrade. The thunderstorm wasn't that bad, but of course we had to go inside, when it began to rain.

Today the weather wasn't that bad, but it was rather cold in the morning. We wanted to see some animals in the Bayerwald Tierpark Lohberg. It's a 10 hectare area with a 1,5 km long circular path. Many pictures and texts inform about lifestyle of many animals.

Here you should see a bird - I've seen it:)

When we had been to the other places the other days, we found many interesting folders. One of it showed the Baumkronenweg - treetop path- in Neuschönau. As for today the forecast hadn't been too bad, we hoped, that we could have a good view over the landscape there. We had to drive about one hour, but we had a good chat in our Rucksack - backpack. Then we had to walk to the path. Every now and then we had to read about the trees and animals, which live there.

At first the path wasn't that high. The path starts with the height of 8m, and ascends up to 25m. The real highlight of the path is the tree tower  with a total height of 44m.  Within the tree tower you will find three trees, so you can experience the whole life of tree, from the root to the top!
From the top of the tower you have an absolut fantastic panoramic view over the beautiful landscape of the Bavarian Forest, over the moutains and the wounderful dales.

It is very cold and rainy today, so we had to think about the activity a lot, because we had no chance to go outside so much. After going too our books and folders, Saphira asked us, if we could drive to Furth im Wald to visit the Erste deutsche Drachenmuseum - the first German Dragon museum. Of course we were hooked by this idea and so were our hosts. It's sad, that the museum was so crowded, that we nearly had no chance to take photos. It was a bit better in the city museum and then on the tower of the museum we were alone - nobody else did want to go outside in the rain and wind to take photos, but I think, that the photo there isn't that bad.
Furth im Wald is a town in the District of Cham, in Bavaria, Germany, near the Czech border. It is situated in the Bavarian Forest, 16 km northeast of Cham, and 17 km southwest of Domažlice.

On our way to Engelsdorf we passed Neurandsberg again, but this time we stopped there to take a look at the Pilgrimage Church Our holy mother and at the ruin of castle Neurandsberg.
Neurandsberg is a suburb of Rattenberg just like Engelsdorf. The ruin of the castle is very small, there is only a bit left. The area is used as a place for special nature plants. You can't go inside, because everything is full of plants.
The church is late baroque, built from 1698 to 1700.

It seems to be habit of Germans, that they drive to neighbour countries, if they are close to the border, just to get some more petrol or diesel for their cars. Usually it is just much cheaper there than in Germany. I thought, that we could go and see more of Austria, but the weather wasn't that great, so we decided to stay in Passau, Germany, for this day.

St. Stephan's Cathedral, or "Dom St. Stephan" in German, is a baroque church from 1688 in Passau, Germany. It is the seat of the Catholic Bishop of Passau and the main church of his diocese. Take a look at the link, if you want to see a nice photo of the whole church:)

Over time, the Passau Cathedral has acquired the largest organ outside of the United States. It is also the largest cathedral organ in the world. The organ currently has 17,774 pipes and 233 registers, all of which can be played with the five-manual general console in the gallery.

Veste Oberhaus is a fortress that was founded in 1219 and, for most of its time, served as the stronghold of the Bishop of Passau, Germany.
Veste Oberhaus

The building is located on the mountain crest (St.Georgsberg) between the Danube and the Ilz rivers and dominates the city of Passau.

If you see well, you maybe can see the three rivers Ilz (only a small part, but the darkest and cleanest river of them), then the Danube and at last the Inn, which is the broadest river and brown.

On our way home to Bruchsal we stopped at Regensburg. It is a beautiful old town, really interesting. The medieval center of Regensburg is Unesco World Cultural Heritage.
It is located at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers.

The first settlements in Regensburg date to the Stone Age. The Celtic name Radasbona was the oldest name given to a settlement near the present city. Around AD 90 the Romans built a small "cohort-fort" in what would now be the suburbs.

The Regensburg Cathedral (German: Kathedrale St. Peter or Regensburger Dom), dedicated to St Peter, is the most important church and landmark of the city Regensburg, Germany. It is the seat of the Catholic diocese of Regensburg. The church is the prime example of Gothic architecture in southern Germany. It is also the home of the Regensburger Domspatzen ("cathedral sparrows"), a choir rich in tradition.

When you walk through the medival part of Regensburg you come through very narrow streets. You hardly can see the sky and my host told me, that it is rather difficult to take nice photos there. Nevertheless it is really interesting and there are many beautiful houses.

We're not completely sure, but we think, that the white next to the light yellow house is the house where Oskar Schindler lived for about five years.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4146/5020983328_68c4b98de9_o.jpg

We took a photo of the sign there.  Oskar Schindler helped to save about 1200 Jews during Nazi time. He lived in Regensburg from November 1945 to May 1950, at first in this house and later he moved to another place.

Wealthy patrician families competed against each other to see who would be able to build the highest tower of the city. In 1260, the Goldener Turm (golden tower) was built on Wahlenstraße. In the Baumburger Turm (tower) is the Dampfnudel bakery.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4090/5020985050_e47b39f3ac_o.jpg

In the centre of the Old City, on the way from the Kohlenmarkt to the Haidplatz, the Rathausplatz stretches between the narrow streets. In this central market the people of Regensburg erected the building complex of today’s “Old Rathaus” from the 13th century on. In the course of the centuries it has been added to and altered again and again.

The Stone Bridge spans the Danube with 16 arches and connects the Regensburg Old Town with Stadtamhof - which is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Salt Warehouse, built from 1616 to 1620, stands in the immediate vicinity of the Stone Bridge and still bears witness today to the active salt trade. The city of Regensburg spent three years giving it an extensive restoration. The rooms with their majestic oak boards and pillars are today a popular location for the most varied events.

Today we drove to Münzesheim to visit the Japanese Garden, which belongs to the therapy centre against alcohol and other dependencies. All buildings and works of art are made by patients of the therapy center based on antique models. The garden is about 5.000 m² large, it is open for patients and visitors. You will see a roof made of blue bottles, put into the concrete with there bottom to the outside - it's an interesting room, fascinating. Wall and floor are covered with blue tiles. Today we have lovely weather. So my host decided to show our new guests some nice places in Bruchsal. Some other toyvoyager friends joined us. You surely know some places already and maybe remember my explanations too, but to tell the truth: I forgot some of them myself too, so don't be too sad, if you think, that everything is rather new for you.

At first we walked through the Bürgerpark - citizens park- , which was created at the end of the 1980s. It is home to three monuments, which are dedicated to Bruchsal's twin towns and to victims of the Second World War and the Nazi regime.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4125/5050405101_7f849426e9_o.jpg

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4090/5051023168_b3fea403e6_o.jpg

Here you see the medival keep of the old castle. It's the only building of this time in Bruchsal.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4108/5051023304_7f38206c1b_o.jpg

Then we walked to the "new" palace of Bruchsal.
Schloss Bruchsal is one of the most beautiful Baroque palaces in Germany and the only episcopal Baroque residence on the Upper Rhine. The foundation stone was laid in 1722 by Cardinal Damian Hugo von Schönborn, Prince Bishop of Speyer, who made the palace the centre of his absolutist dominion. Read more here: Schloss Bruchsal.

Here you see the tower of the church St. Damian and Hugo, where my hosts usually go to service on Sundays.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4150/5050405591_2586e9112f_o.jpg

The left building is the church, so you see the the tower is at another place. The church inside was also baroque, but the most part of the palace and so the church were destroyed during the Second World War. The rebuilt it in the 1970s, but not the church inside. It is modern style now - to disappointment to most visiters.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4130/5051023640_d658f5b8a7_o.jpg

The palace garden: Today, the palace garden continues to provide an atmospheric setting for open-air concerts and the Bruchsal Summer Festival of Music and Drama.

At first we went to the pond, where usually are many ducks. Today it was so crowdy, that we stayed away a bit just to take nicer photos.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4151/5050405897_7f502eb3b5_o.jpg

Here is the rose garden. It was a bit difficult to take photos here, because of the sun
:(

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4150/5051024010_63391cd540_o.jpg

This is a chestnut avenue with really old trees. It was also such an old avenue on the other side of the park, but they say, that the trees were too old. So the planted new trees, which are still a lot smaller.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4154/5050406235_ff9a01ab2d_o.jpg

I collected some chestnuts for a nice photo. I hope you like it.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4112/5051024420_1a3a4768e1_o.jpg

Here is a photo of the back side of the palace main building.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4132/5051024570_10a558acc6_o.jpg

This is the front side of the palace main building. This building houses the the magnificent dome, Marble Hall and Prince's Hall. The staircase designed by Balthasar Neumann is considered to be an architectural tour-de-force and has been described as the "finest staircase in the world". There also is the German Museum of Musical Automata, which thanks to its acquisition of more than 100 valuable instruments from the Carlson collection of Königslutter, is now among the largest such collections in the world.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4086/5051024720_056c0dd7f9_o.jpg

I read a long long text about the palace, much too long for writing it here.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4090/5051024862_64fd304d21_o.jpg

That's the left wing of the main building. There is the chamber music hall.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4149/5050407099_af39e13e5b_o.jpg

We walked to the Damian Gate now. Today, the local art society "Das Damianstor" stages various exhibitions of contemporary art in the sections of the building directly above the gate arch.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4129/5051025138_faec3b4e26_o.jpg

We took a look at the long Schönborn street, which leads through a part of the palace area.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4148/5050407345_a9c741396f_o.jpg

And then something happened. Petra and the others went on and I decided to jump out of the bag. I fell to the ground and there I stayed, shocked. Thank God, Petra and the others came back to me as soon as the realized, that they missed me. What a relief, when I was back in the bag again.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4092/5050407629_f5ed7e6408_o.jpg

We walked to the Amalienbrunnen, so called Schneckenbrunnen (snail fountain), which is in front of the county court. To be true, I didn't read the whole text here.
Here you see me with one snail.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4152/5051025694_b6319e0c70_o.jpg

Next to the fountain we took a look back to the main building and the wing with the chamber music hall.

Now we had to walk some stairs up and a street up to come to the Stadtgarten - city garden. It's the third large park besides the Bürgerpark and palace garden.

I saw a nice old house. I'm sorry, but the light was a bit difficult for taking photos.

This fountain is called Ferdinand Keller Brunnen. It was built in 1912 and is dedicated to the Bruchsal innkeeper Ferdinand Keller. The building behind it belongs to a grammar school.

The Belvedere is on the edge of the Stadtgarten. It was built by Leonhard Stahl in 1756 as a hunting lodge for Prince Bishop Franz Christoph von Hutten. The location was chosen so that the lodge would command an unspoiled view of the palace, town and Rhine rift valley beyond. Today the Belvedere is used as a venue for concerts and theatre productions.

Next to the Stadtgarten is a place, from which we had a wonderful view over Bruchsal. Do you see the church with the two towers? It is a baroque church St. Peter, which is close to the place where I live right now. The white/orange building close to me is a part of the older people's house.

The place were we stood was next to that Wingerthäusle - vineyard house. We tried to take a photo of the sign with me, but it was too dark to read it. So we just took a photo with hand and camera, but nevertheless you will see the house as white dot above the stairs of the Andreasstaffel:)

The Huttenstraße is one of those streets with really old buildings. Many many buildings were destroyed during Second World War, so you don't see many old buildings in Bruchsal.

It covers an area of 1.3 km² and has an average depth of 20 m. It think, it is really nice and I would have liked to go there too to have a closer view and get my feet in the water.

Today we drove to the highest mountain of Baden-Württemberg and also our Germany outside the Alps, the Feldberg. The Feldberg has an elevation of 1,493 metres. For the most part the Feldberg area contents a nature reserve due to its subalpine vegetation. This reserve is the oldest and biggest one in Baden-Württemberg and is in charge of a full-time ranger since 1989. Since 2001 it's the responsibility of the Conservation Centre Südschwarzwald to look after the reserve. Within the Haus der Natur ("House of Nature") there's a permanent exhibition of nature conservation. It offers an extensive program with events in the reserve. Since 2005 there's also a new nature trail.

The Feldberg offers one of the most extensive panoramas of Germany - especially in winter at weather situations of inversion. In the west, on the other side of the Upper Rhine Graben you can see the entire Vosges Mountains from the Ballon d'Alsace up to Mont Donon and Mont Sainte-Odile. Beyond that you can also look up to the southern Palatinate Forest occasionally. In the north one can see the Hornisgrinde; in the north-east there's the entire range of the Swabian Alb including the Lemberg mountain, up to the left there's the Hegau volcano region.

In the south one can see the Alps from Alpspitze and Zugspitze in the east up to the Allgäu Alps, Verwall Alps, Silvretta, Säntis, Glarus Alps, Urner Alps, Bernese Alps and Mont Blanc in the west. Besides there are the Jura Mountains on the right next to the Alps.

Today we heard, that the weather will be not so fine in St. Peter. So we thought about the activity for the day a lot, before we decided to drive about one and a half hour to Schaffhausen and go to the Rhine Falls. The Rhine Falls (Rheinfall in German) are the largest plain waterfalls in Europe.

THey are located on the High Rhine between the municipalities of Neuhausen am Rheinfall and Laufen-Uhwiesen, near the town of Schaffhausen in northern Switzerland, between the cantons of Schaffhausen and Zürich. They are 150 m (450 ft) wide and 23 m (75 ft) high. In the winter months, the average water flow is 250 m³/s, while in the summer, the average water flow is 700 m³/s. Now just enjoy the photos

On our way to Donaueschingen we came through Zollhaus again. We had seen before, that there was a nice old steam locomotive and decided to have a short stop there to take photos. We read the text about the locomotive and started to laugh, because we all thought, that the name of the locomotive sounds really funny: Sauschwänzle - pig's little tail. Later we read on wikipedia, that because of the twisting route of its central section, it is popularly known as the Sauschwänzlebahn (pigtail line)

It seems to be a "river" day today, first Rhine and now Donau - Danube. Donaueschingen is about 30 km far from Schaffhausen. The city lies in the Baar basin in the southern Black Forest at the confluence of the Brigach and Breg rivers— the two source tributaries of the Danube— from which the town gets its name. At school we all learnt, that the confluence of Brigach and Breg is the Donau (Danube), but there is also the source of the brook Donau, which is called Donauquelle, located next to the garden of the palace of the Princes of Fürstenberg.

Donaueschingen was first mentioned as "Donaueschingen" in 889[citation needed]. In 1283, Rudolph von Habsburg granted the countship of Baar and Donaueschingen to Heinrich von Fürstenberg. The right to brew beer was also connected with this grant. This is the source of the Royal Fürstenberg Brewery.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4111/5154303504_93a2109f15_o.jpg

Though the Princes of Fürstenberg were nominally mediatised and dispossed as absolute ruler of the principality, they still own huge property in their former lands, including their palace with the surrounding parks and gardens. The Schlosspark (palace gardens) which used to be public and the only park accessible to the citizens of the town since 1806 recently became off-limits again. The Princes of Fürstenberg were also the owners of the only extant manuscript of the Nibelungenlied until they sold it in 2001. The ancestral brewery has been sold as well.

Next to the brewery we found this beautiful half-timbered house.

Here you see the catholic church St. Johann again. It is a baroque church, built between 1724 and 1747. The two towers are considered as landmark of the town.

Back in St. Peter we had some tea and cake again, before we went on another walk. This time only my host and her son went with us. We walked to the pilgrimage church Maria Lindenberg, which is about 3km from St. Peter, if you walk.

It was about 4pm when we went away and we came back at 6.15pm. It was really dark then and we were very hungry and thirsty then.

Here's a photo back to St. Peter, this time from the other side of the town.

We arrived at the church when there was a service called vespers. So we didn't want to go inside. I was a bit sad about it.
The church is built on a ridge of hills (720 meters). Unique is the eucharistic adoration since 1955. From January to December men pray day and night without interruption in front of the holy of holies for piece and regeneration of church through Holy Spirit. Since 1497 it is a place for pilgrimage.

It is Saturday before 1rst of Advent and we decided to start decorating the house. This is a Christmas Crib Scene for windows, which our host regularly sellotapes to the window of their dining room each year.

The puppy Christmas started in this house, so it is getting a bit uncomfortable for me. Thank God, there are so many other friendly toyvoyagers around me, who take care for me. So you can be sure, that I'm safe - I think.

Today the puppies cut and glued a wonderful star together.
They invited all the other toyvoyagers at our place to join them and see the star grow.

Chuckle shows you, how the finished star looks like. He is as proud as if he would have created it all alone.

Yesterday it was 1rst Advent and today we have a nice meeting with pastry and tea. Our host's singing teacher came to join us. It was her last singing lesson with this nice teacher, so she and her son invited her to visit them at home. She was also her son's and daughter's singing teacher.
We lighted the first candle and sat down in the middle of the table - our host was very delighted
:)

This is a few out of the kitchen window. You see the snow? It's a pity, that our host still isn't well enough to go outside with us.

Our star also found a place at this kitchen window.

Maybe you know, that my host works as a teacher. Right now she is class teacher of 3rd graders. She loves her job and she loves her class. She always talks about her kids and she doesn't only mean her own children, but her pupils. A few days ago she went to a book shop in the inner city and stayed there for hours. We all wondered, why she didn't come back home again. Today she showed us, what she had done. She went there to search for books for the Advent Calendar for her pupils. She didn't buy the books from her own money, but recieved the money from their parents. But she bought the books and before she bought them, she thought and thought, which book would be good enough for which child. She and the female book seller really enjoyed it - that's what she said.

Take a look at all the books. There are 19 books for her 19 pupils.

Stars are really fascinating - so here comes star number three. This time all toyvoyager worked together, although on the photo it seems, that only one dog did the work.

The next day we had everything done, the packages were wrapped in Christmas papers and the pupils' names were in the little sacks. So our host could take the Advent calendar with her to the school. She told us, that she reads an Advent story each morning in the first school hour. At first they light the candles of the advent wreath. At last she asks one pupil to go to the Advent calendar and open the number for the day. The pupil, whose name was told there, gets up and draws out one of the packages out of the covered basket. The name on the package tells then, who will recieve it. This way three pupils have to do something each day.

It's the fourth of December already. Today we found a lot of snow outside, so we ran to play in it and have a walk. At first we found a trail in the snow in front of the front door.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5287/5270428545_97027ab545_o.jpg

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5007/5271036364_c24b7806e6_o.jpg

At first we took a photo of the kindergarden, which is next to the church St. Peter. It has some nice Christmas decorations.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5009/5270429835_aa1d6ed6a8_o.jpg

We turned to see to the baroque church St. Peter. It is one of the few buildings of Bruchsal, which survived World WarII. It is closed, so we had no chance to go inside, but maybe we will go there during the Christmas Time. I know, that you already know it, but it is nice to take such beautiful winter photos of wellknown places too.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5005/5270429931_89d0a09e46_o.jpg

Next to the church St. Peter is the graveyard of Bruchsal. You have to walk up and down there, so it is rather difficult for older people to walk there.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5286/5270430299_d398797ecc_o.jpg

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5043/5270431413_ee82dbc994_o.jpg

Here you see the back side of the house Sancta Maria. You will see the front side later. The grey wall on the left side belongs to the new apostolic church. You maybe can imagine, how steep the ways of the graveyard are, when you see, that we look down on Sancta Maria right now and even this house is higher than the entrance we were at first.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5248/5270431687_0e75e9875f_o.jpg

There is a nice garden, which belongs to Sancta Maria. Do you see the little church tower on the left? It is the tower of the city church. There is another small small piece of the tower of the church St. Damian and Hugo, when you look well peer at the branches. This church belongs to the palace of Bruchsal.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5129/5270432401_8fb94ed8d8_o.jpg

This is the front side of Sancta Maria. It houses a catholic school for social education and more. There still live some Franciscan nuns.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5043/5271041128_31275a4ce4_o.jpg

We only had to walk down this street from Sancta Maria to our current home. You see the working place - nobody is working right now because of the cold weather.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5282/5270433523_824425efb6_o.jpg

Somehow my host forgot to take pictures of me on the walk. But when we came back, we found some more trails in the snow next to the trail we've seen at first. Who might this have been?

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5289/5271041956_6f3b30f216_o.jpg

It was so cold, that we didn't want to stay outside any longer, but our host said, that she first has to clean the way in front of the house again. We asked Chuckle to open the door.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5248/5271042062_5d1a228717_o.jpg

He was a bit too small, so he asked Bluto and Scotty to help him, but they still weren't tall enough.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5083/5270434459_9a5bbc98ee_o.jpg

Hypno-Dog came to help them now. He climbed on their heads and Chuckle on his, but you see, they still didn't reach the lock.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5244/5270434587_2a89f224f4_o.jpg

Hypno-Dog called for Travelling Tuffy, who then climbed over their heads and sat down on Hypno-Dog's head and Chuckle sat on his head then. It was really heavy already.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5287/5271042408_62dacb99b8_o.jpg

Because they still were too small to reach the lock, Domino asked them, if he could help. Of course they let him climb over their heads and Chuckle sat on his head then. You see, that they still had no luck.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5086/5271042522_048c3c0688_o.jpg

Chuckle called for Schnuffi to help them.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5209/5271042672_f41bc4e2fa_o.jpg

And then I came and also Mustang Monkey asked, if he should help Bluto and Scotty to carry all these other toyvoyagers on our heads.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5207/5270435073_8ec52213a7_o.jpg

We were really close to the lock now, but then it happened....! Oh God! I hope, nobody got hurt.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5081/5271042886_3563231770_o.jpg

Thank God! Nothing bad happened to us toyvoyagers. Now we knew a bit better how to do it. So we were a bit faster in building the toyvoyager tower.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5007/5271043014_e4def377cb_o.jpg

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5129/5270435369_e9d00f2198_o.jpg

You see we had a different order now and we were building more a pyramid than a tower.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5008/5271043244_03eec7fb4c_o.jpg

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5207/5270435613_3eefb6b114_o.jpg

We didn't feel anything of the cold weather now. We really sweat already.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5283/5270435733_f19cd80694_o.jpg

And yes, with Brinda's help Chuckle reached the lock finally.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5088/5270435893_49deb19879_o.jpg

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5089/5270436041_c4e0812234_o.jpg

He turned the key and then....

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5286/5270436209_0cdf8b693a_o.jpg

What we didn't think of was, that we all will fall down - except Chuckle, Scotty and Bluto. But we all were happy, that we had been successful. Maybe we can go on walks without our host every now and then from now on.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5289/5270436341_8b85a037bf_o.jpg

P.S. My host read this and she told me to tell you, that she will keep her key at a safe place from now on. You might feel better to know this, but we all still will try - oh, no eehmmm, I think, we won't try it again;)

After we had some rainy days and our host had been ill with laryngitis, we have the chance to walk in the snow again. This time we have more snow than last and everything is more beautiful. Even the wellknown church St. Peter. Last time we took the photo while standing in the graveyard area already. This time we are in front of the kindergarden.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5043/5270800253_378f13c47f_o.jpg

We walked across the graveyard again and then out of Bruchsal into fields. Maybe you see the little yellow sign on the left side of the snowy road. That's the place-name sign of Bruchsal or it's end.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5006/5271409648_2eecdbd27f_o.jpg

On the side of the road we found this cross. It is there for someone, who died in the 17th/ 18th century or something.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5008/5270801405_842eedbbb1_o.jpg

Then we walked through a hollow way. It is Hohlweg in German. It was so beautiful with all the snow on the trees and road.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5123/5270802737_f9e3431e0c_o.jpg

Then we walked on a fieldway and had a nice view back to Bruchsal.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5084/5271413138_be3d70b172_o.jpg

On our way we found another trail. If it was a deer?

In the evening we went to one of the Christmas markets in Bruchsal. It was the one, which only happens on the last weekend before Christmas. It's more modern style - that's what our hosts say, because there are such crazy lights on the palace wall. We enjoyed to drink a Kinderpunsch and to warm up standing next to a fire place. We saw several Christmas things to buy. It was so crowdy there, that we had no chance to take many photos.

This shows the first Christmas Market of Bruchsal. It always starts on the weekend of first of Advent and ends two or three days before Holy Eve. It is a really really small market but with a merry-go-round and with nice decorated houses. My hosts live only a few meters up the street - I'm looking to the street.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5287/5271414400_e7cb3900d8_o.jpg

The front of the palace is beautiful in the snow at night.

It's that time of year again, when our host goes into her kitchen for hours and bakes and bakes a lot of cookies. This year we asked her, whether we could help her with her work. At first she seemed a bit hectic and not in the mood to let us join, but then we were allowed to watch and even help her baking.

Here you see Moony cutting the vanilla bean.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5129/5312153068_ccca837df1_o.jpg

Paul Penguin adds the almonds.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5210/5312153146_4cafaef894_o.jpg

Landroval tries to stir the dough. Wow, this mixer is heavy.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5286/5311561919_6f62ece285_o.jpg

Even I help. I get the dough out of the mixing bowl.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5048/5311562011_a635eccdcd_o.jpg

Schnuffi writes the name of the cookie on the aluminium foil: Husarenkrapferl.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5249/5312153450_0675bbc56d_o.jpg

For the second cookies we need some almonds again. Hypno-Dog adds them to the dough.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5088/5312153564_916cb50486_o.jpg

Kari adds the flour

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5208/5312153648_5eae786ba0_o.jpg

and Traveling Tuffy the sugar.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5123/5312153742_26abc95294_o.jpg

Domino likes the cocos flakes, they are just as white as he is. We need the flakes for cocos macaroones with marzipan.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5086/5312153846_5b8146d1aa_o.jpg

Chuckle helps to stir the dough this time.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5288/5312153956_287546bf63_o.jpg

To put the dough on the baking plate we need someone really strong: Hypno-Dog.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5207/5312154092_2e2b146806_o.jpg

Tuffy is waiting impatiently.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5285/5312154194_7f359ca717_o.jpg

I try to show them, that I'm also really strong.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5126/5312154384_2bcd76cc46_o.jpg

After the dough for our Husarenkrapferl was in the fridge for about two hours, Paul puts them on the baking plate and does the last step before we put it in the oven.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5286/5312154498_f1c3592037_o.jpg

While the Husarenkrapferl are baking, our host forms the Vanillekipferl.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5121/5312154598_f96b643154_o.jpg

Some Vanillekipferl are already baken, while some more are waiting for an empty oven.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5281/5312154740_c9f8b327d4_o.jpg

That's how the finished Vanillekipferl look like.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5008/5312154884_9fe5f94a72_o.jpg

We all try to help getting the cocosnut macaroones finished. We want to dip them in the melted chocolate.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5162/5312155114_5fc121b412_o.jpg

Don't they look nice?

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5130/5311563867_ccd395200b_o.jpg

It's better to not show, how we looked like after the work was done.:)

Our host prepared another dough for Spitzbuben cookies. We are allowed to help cutting them out. For some of us it is hard work, but for others just as easy as climbing a tree.

and cover them with powder sugar.

Look, who is back at home!!! What a Christmas surprise! Aaron, the donkey, came back after staying in Singapore for about two years. He told us, that he won't travel again. He is just too large to take him with in a bag, although he is rather small, when he is folded in a package. He had to tell so much about his life, too much to repeat it here. For us he is just a sign, that it is possible to come back home after years.:)

Aaron joined us in watching how to bake cookies.

It looks a bit messy again. This will be Walnuss-Aprikosen-Taschen (something like walnut-apricots- bags)

Today it is Holy Eve. In the morning there is time for some more baking in the kitchen. We all sit down at our special place again.

After baking and cooling down we cover the Walnuss-Aprikosen-Taschen with powder sugar.

Springerle are some of our host's favorite cookies. Many people say, that you have to bake them weeks before Christmas so they get soft enough for take a bite without breaking a tooth. Our hosts usually bakes them the day before Holy Eve or on Holy Eve and she never has problems with them being too hard.

While Petra is still baking and baking and preparing dinner, we sit behind the kitchen window and watch the weather change. At first we had rain, but now it starts to snow.

Then  we heard a little bell ringing - the sign, that the Christchild - Christuskind - was there and had brought the presents. Now we were allowed to enter the livingroom and see the Christmastree for the first time. While our hosts were singing and playing the flute, we sat on the presents and helped singing. I'm so sorry, that there is no record of it, you would have loved it:)

After singing and reading the Christmas story - I never thought, that this really would take more than half an hour time to get finished with this - everyone was allowed to open the presents. I'm also sorry, that we don't have photos of us, but we all were too busy.

Then we sat down, played a game and ate some of our selfmade cookies. Our host told us, that she tries to put some recipes on facebook.

Today we went shopping and bought a new bird feeder for the balcony in front of the kitchen. At first we played in it for a while until out host told us, that it isn't for us and we should go in the house again, so the poor birds find some seed while it is so frosty outside.

At first umechan climbed into the house.

Then Kari and I joined umechan.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5130/5316500248_34127a4e0f_o.jpg

Also Landroval and Paul Penguin came to sit in the small house, while Chuckle sat on its roof. He tried to climb, but got some cold fingers and had to be really careful to not be frozen to the chain.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5210/5316500602_bc3c506ca8_o.jpg

Suddenly the dogs came and chased us away. They laughed so much, that Domino and Hypno-Dog lay in the house holding their tummies, while Schnuffi and Tuffy watched from the roof.

On 6th January is Epiphany and all children of my host family went with the starsingers. Two of them weren't dressed as kings this year, only the daughter was dressed. She was the starcarrier. It's sad, that we don't have a photo of it. Somehow we missed it. But when we came home, we had the chance to take a look at all the sweets, which they got as presents beside the money. The money is for charitable use, but the sweets are for the children. We came home with three bags - for each child one bag of sweets. Here you see, what one child had in his bag.

Today was a meeting of our hosts' family club. They said, they would take four of us with them, so our host counted out, who was allowed to join them. At first I was sad, because I thought, I never would win. But then I was happy to not stay at home, but go with them to the palace. We were there to see the exhibition of cribs and also visited other rooms in the palace. I can tell you, it really was interesting.

After being almost completely destroyed in the final days of World War II, the main tract was painstakingly reconstructed according to the original design and work was completed in 1975, including the magnificent dome, Marble Hall and Prince's Hall.
With the rebuilding of the palace, the Town Museum (Prehistory, Ancient History, Mineralogy and Numismatics) was established with new exhibits in the southern upper storey of the palace. As well as displays chronicling the ancient and early history of the town, the exhibition features the mineral collection, coins and medals from Bruchsal and archaeological finds from the Neolithic to the medieval periods. (see bruchsal-erleben.de)

Our host told us, that soon there will be a birthday party for her daughter, who was 13 years end of December. She said, that in December never is enough time to celebrate with friends, so her daughter invited them to come to her in two weeks. Today we learn how to do chocolates, because the girls want to make chocolates then. At first we had to sort out the ones we wanted to make.

Today our host's daughter has a belated birthday party with her friends. So we have to prepare everything before the guests come. At first we have to put all the ingredience for the chocolates on the working plate in the kitchen and also the recipes for the chocolates.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5057/5499002782_bedee8557b_o.jpg

Then we have to prepare the table for the guests. We want to eat the selfmade muffins, but our host didn't allow us to bite into a single one:(

It's breakfast time on a Saturday in Bruchsal. Most Saturdays my hosts buy bread rolls from their favorite bakery in Bruchsal. You can see them here. It is hard for us to choose the one we love too. Our host said, that we have to share one bread roll, because it would be enough for us to eat - we are so small, she said.

We decided to take a "Krusti" and Cilly cut it in two halves.

Now we had to decide, which marmelade - jam-  we wanted to have on the bread roll halves or if we would like honey from Australia or hazelnut cream. The most jam is selfmade by our host's husband.:)

Then we drove to Odenheim to see the Siegfried fountain. It might be the place were Siegfried was murdered.

Maybe you know the "Nibelungenlied", if not here's a copy of an wikipedia article:

In the Middle High German Nibelungenlied, Sîfrit (Siegfried) is a prince of Xanten who is later revealed to have a heroic background including killing a dragon and winning lands and an immense fortune from a pair of brothers. From bathing in the dragon's blood, he is invulnerable except for a spot on his back where a leaf adhered to his skin. Determined to marry Kriemhild, the sister of King Gunther of the Burgundians, he assists Gunther in wooing Brünhild, queen of Iceland, using his cloak of invisibility to enable Gunther to beat the phenomenally strong queen at javelin throwing, boulder tossing, and the long jump. He also single-handedly conquers Nibelungenland to provide troops in case Brünhild tries to kill Gunther and his kin. Finally married to Kriemhild, he then wrestles Brünhild into submission, again invisible, so that Gunther can consummate his marriage. He gives Kriemhilt Brünhild's ring and belt. After some years, the two queens quarrel over precedence and Kriemhild shows Brünhild the ring and belt and calls her Siegfried's concubine. Siegfried and Gunther make peace but Gunther's courtier Hagen von Tronje plots to kill Siegfried and Gunther and his brothers go along with the plan. Hagen has Kriemhild place a cross on the spot on Siegfried's back where he is vulnerable, and spears him when he is drinking from a stream on a hunting trip, thus fulfilling a prophecy that whomever Kriemhild marries will die violently. He throws Siegfried's treasure into the Rhine so that Kriemhild cannot raise an army. The second half of the epic concerns her revenge.

For lunch we drove to Plochingen, because my host said, that there is a Hundertwasser Haus (house) and she would like to see it. She like these colourful houses, she said, and so we were all really curious to learn more about one of these houses.
But at first we had a look at some beautiful halftimbered houses of Plochingen.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5214/5523028010_4dfb2ddf15_o.jpg

Here you see Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who was an Austrian artist.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5296/5523029736_4bc79c5454_o.jpg

In 1985 two architects of Plochingen planned to build a residential and business house as circular building with inner yard.
There are 62 flats, 16 commercial units. The area is about 1,5 hectare. 1992 the city got in contact with Friedensreich Hundertwasser and he actually liked to create the facade of the inner yard. He liked that the viewer of the inner yard would only have Hundertwasser around him and the sky above - an own Hundertwasser-world.
(I found this on this website: http://www.plochingen.de/servlet/PB/menu/1211981_l1/index.html )

Hi Mum,

today I learn how to bake a sponge cake. At first my host took five eggs. Bubo thought, that these are his eggs for breading and at first he was really confused, nearly shocked, but then she told him, that these are eggs of chicken. He thought, that's okay somehow.

After stirring the eggs Chuckle weighed the sugar: 350g - for each egg 50g. We also added a bit Vanilla sugar. And then stirred it again until it was very fluffy.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5107/5626896755_a9ab1d9734_o.jpg

In the afternoon we and some members of my host's family club from their church went on a walk from Bruchsal to Unteröwisheim. We had dinner in a Besenwirtschaft called Kannenbesen. A Besenwirtschaft is a tavern selling homegrown wine. They only open the tavern for a part of the year. At first we need 1kg white flour, dried yeast, 600g water, 25gr margarine (if you don't have a cooked potato - and we had no) and 25gr salt. We had to leave the yeast dough alone for a longer while until it looked like this.

Today is the day of the big wedding in London. All tvs decided to sit in front of the tv and watch tv for hours. We even found a British flag. You see, that it was 9.30am, when we finally sat down.

We saw so many people on the road, who tried to see the lucky couple.

We saw many people in interesting uniforms.

This couple was interesting too. The boy-tvs took a look at David Beckham and the girl-tvs on his wife with her funny hat.

Oh, who is coming here? We're excited.

It's William and his brother Harry. They really look good - that's what the girl-tvs say:)

The queen and her husband and prince Charles and his wife are coming too.

It is a special day today: the 10th birthday of my host's nephew. Usually they live in Karlsdorf, but they are on holiday on a farm in Grafenloch, which belongs to Wolfach-Kirnbach. He and his family invited us to come to visit them at this lovely place. They even organized beautiful weather, so we had been able to sit outside in the sun. We went on a one hour walk in the forest and I loved to see the mountains, woods and interesting houses, the Black Forest house.

We took this photo next to the house. What a nice view!

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5067/5675355422_10c4238d8f_o.jpg

These cows belong to the farm.

Somehow they forgot to take a photo with me at this place, so umechan will show it for me.

Here's the Black Forest House. The typical Black Forest farmhouse - also referred to as a Black Forest house – has been built in this form for hundreds of years. You will find it mainly in the central and southern Black Forest. Here you can read more about those houses.

The left and middle house you can see belong to the farm were we were today.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5147/5674798087_06d7732872_o.jpg

All buildings except the one on the top belong to the farm. Maybe you see, that there are some clouds - a little thunder came, but it avoided the house so we were able to sit outside and drink coffee and eat cakes.

Before we drove home, we played a while at the water. But then some more clouds came and we had to hurry, because this time the thunderstorm reached our place too. We were lucky to sit in the car, before it started.

Before we drove home we drove to Heidelsheim to bring my host's son and his girlfriend home to her family. She lives in Heidelsheim, one of the suburbs of Bruchsal.

There is a medieval tower, the Katzenturm, next to their house. You can read more about Heidelsheim here.

Hi Mum,

today we drove to Bad Neuenahr to celebrate a 60th birthday. For us it was more interesting, that we celebrated at an ostrich farm. I've seen so many ostrichs there - big, old, small, young.
We didn't walk through the farm, but drove with a little sort of train. The engine didn't work well at first, so we had to climb out of the waggons and go a few steps, but then everything was fine again. It took us about 2 1/2 hours for a way you normally need 1 1/2 hour. We were really tired, when we climbed into our car to drive home again - another 2 1/2 hours drive. Nevertheless it was a great day.

Bye, Brinda

there's such a beautiful weather today, that we toyvoyagers asked our host to take us with her and her daughter, while her daughter delivered a magazine called Konradsblatt.

This was the last stop, before we drove home again.

Today is the Summerday parade through Bruchsal. Pupils of Grundschule (first to fourth grade) and children of kindergarten walk together with their teachers thought the streets and sing songs about winter leaving and summer coming now. It's something like throwing the winter out of the town now and welcoming summer. Therefore they created special flowers small and big or they wear special clothes - e.g. some were dressed like frogs. Petra and her class were among these people who carried the big blue flowers (the first in the row of blue flowers). At the end of the parade - in front of the palace of Bruchsal - they burn a snowman and all children and many other people watch the event there, too. Today they had been really lucky, that the weather was fine just for the right time, because a short time before and just after the snowman had been burning it started to rain and thunder heavily again. We don't have photos of the burning, because Ralf stayed at his mother, where he took all the other photos.

Hi Mum,

today many other tvs arrived at Petra's home. They came from another town in Germany and we all were very happy to welcome them at our place. Their first wish was to take a bath, so we all ran to the bathroom.

Here you see our new guests from left to right:

Louis the rat, Nippy, Percy, Bree and Polki

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2516/5751581157_f8b4f95fbb_o.jpg

I also took a bath - it was so much fun. I thought, it might be a good idea to be clean, when I travel home again.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5225/5752126748_0916d45d15_o.jpg

Nippy thought, that it would be enough to clean one ear:)

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2505/5752127376_cc0aba3877_o.jpg

But then she fell head over into the bath.

Polki loved to swim in the water. Do you see me? Nippy thought, that it would be a good idea to sit in front of me:(

We asked Petra, if she never needs a towel after having a bath and she ran to wrap us in the towel quickly.

Because it was warm and sunny, we asked our host, if she could bring us to the balcony. We lied down on a table in the sun - more or less.

Hi Mum,

today nothing really interesting happened, but this evening Petra's son called me to take a look out of the window and get some photos taken there. I'm sorry, but we had to zoom some views, so you can see more of the sky. We thought, we would get some rain, but nothing happened. It is still much too dry.

Hello,

"Jaanipäev"(John's Night,Midsummer) is today here,we do some BBQ,we didn't celebrate it as big as some people do,but anyway something we did. It's 2nd biggest holidays after Christmas in Estonia.

Usually Estonians celebrate "Jaaniõhtu" on the eve of the Summer Solstice (June 23) with bonfires. On the islands of Saaremaa  and Hiiumaa, old fishing boats may be burnt in the large pyres set ablaze. On Jaaniõhtu, Estonians all around the country will gather with their families, or at larger events to celebrate this important day with singing and dancing, as Estonians have done for centuries. The celebrations that accompany Jaaniõhtu carry on usually through the night

We were not awake all night and we got even some rain,as it is "common " in that evening(night).

2 weeks ago we got rabbit and today he was first time outside and I was looking, together with other TVs what he is doing.

Today I explored the mountains north of the river Neckar. The "Heiligenberg" was quite a busy place in the past. People of Celtic origin already settled there in pre-historic times and in the Middle Ages two monasteries were built on the mountain. Nowadays it's a nature reserve.

Today we visited Hrad Valdštejn, an old castle which was once in the possession of Wallenstein, the famous supreme commander of the Habsburg monarchy's army during the Thirty Years' War in the 17th century. Nowadays it's maintained by the city of Turnov and accessible for tourists in the summer months. It's situated about 4 km outside Turnov in the forests. On our way to it we also passed the former Jewish cemetery which is currently being relocated because a new motorway has been built and we saw some art in the forest.

Bye,
Brinda

Hi Mum

Today I visited Hruba Skala castle which nowdays is a hotel and a restaurant and took a long walk through the nature reserve of Hruboskalsko. Just like yesterday it started to rain again in  the early afternoon but we nevertheless had a great time.
