dzejna Posted Aug 22, 2010, 6:49 pm	Hi guys. For some time different TV´s kept coming to our house. And after I understood the whole idea I decided to become a TV too. THey are all so cool, I want to be just like them! Today I have only one picture for you. It is picture of me and my TV friends. We are having a goodbye party for me and experienced toyvoyager Fed. RikeH Posted Sep 23, 2010, 7:32 pm	Hi Mum, I am so happy - I arrived in Sülfeld today. A friendly bunny gave me a warm welcome. He is called Dicker Kumpel. Then he introduced me to the others here. All seems to be very friendly. Some will leave soon. I showed my nice postcard and my sweets - unfortunately we were too many for it. But luckily RikeH had some delicious strawberries for us - so we had a nice meal together. I am sure that I will have a great time here - and I will write more soon. Love Timothy III.
RikeH Posted Sep 29, 2010, 8:08 pm	Hi Mum, I went to Hamburg today. RikeH and Dicker Kumpel told me something about a Rhino inside a house. Well - let's see... This is the house - called Levantehaus. A nice entrance - but no Rhino. Just better - some other wild animals. But look Mum - there it is - a wonderful Rhino. Really inside the house. Next to him, there are other strange animals. A nice window in the top of the house. I went upstairs to get closer to the Rhino and we talked a lot. This was really great. Later we went back home - in the station we saw a lot of trains - this is the fastest in Germany called ICE train. This was our train - not so fast. We went upstairs to have a better look. The train was very modern. I watched out of the window - it was dark outside. Bye bye dear train! Love Timothy
RikeH Posted Oct 9, 2010, 10:30 pm	Hello Mum , the weather was really nice today - so we decided to make a walk around Sülfeld. I met this funny little guy - nice color! No - I didn't eat it.... Look. The trees start to change their colors. This is the way I walked along. RikeH loves this big tree - it is really nice. Another nice view on my way. I spent some times talking with these cows. Later we walked over a bridge. I looked into this direction... then into the other. Grass, trees and the ceiling. As you know I love flowers - I found these daisies. Back home I sat a moment in the garden - and enjoyed the sun. Love Timothy
RikeH Posted Oct 10, 2010, 7:35 pm	Hello Mum, Padi arrived in Sülfeld. We gave him a warm welcome. The weather was nice - and we went to Hamburg - a big city in Germany. We are on our way! We went into the city park. There were nice flowers. There is a big lake in the Park, but it was too cold to swim in it. Look - the tree has a wonderful color. This is a really big lawn, many people were there - played games and flew kites. The last thing we saw was the Planetarium - a really nice building. Will write more soon. Love Timothy
RikeH Posted Oct 17, 2010, 11:36 pm	Hello Mum, today we went to Bad Segeberg, a nice little town near to Sülfeld. We started in front of this nice old building. This is a really funny fountain with a man on it. But the sun was in the wrong direction, so you cannot see it that good. Fortunately we were able to see it. Next to it there were beautiful flowers - I had to sit next to the flowers! Another beautiful old building. and the church. Then we walked up a hill and had a great view of the theatre where they play stories of Karl May in the summer. Some minutes later I had this view over the city and the big lake of Segeberg. Here you can see all of us. On the way back to our car we stopped at a small lake and met some ducks. Love Timothy
RikeH Posted Oct 22, 2010, 8:56 pm	Hello Mum, we made a walk to the centre of Sülfeld today. It is autumn now. The autumn has wonderful colors. This is the German Flag. More sightseeing - the old school. It has a beautiful door. The mayor works here. Sülfeld has a wonderful church. On the other side of the street is the pharmacy. RikeH Posted Oct 25, 2010, 8:15 pm	Hello Mum, RikeH and Dicker Kumpel had a big surprise for me. Look! Yes, we had a chocolate fondue. First we heat the cream. Then I put the chocolate into it. Ready to start! The first one was a grape. Then a piece of banana. some pineapple... So many fruits - chocolate fondue seems to be very healthy. Well, I am ready. But it was so yummy. RikeH Posted Oct 31, 2010, 4:21 pm	Hello Mum, It is me - Timothy III. Are you surprised to see me like that? It is Halloween!!! We all  wanted to go as ghosts - but to tell the truth, RikeH is not really good in creating costumes, although she spent hours on it. Well now I look like something between a ghost and a mummy, but I am sure, we will have fun this day. Well, we went outside and stopped at the first house we found. It seems to be winter? A funny snowman. Can you see me in my costume? The door opened and we sang a song - and recited a poem. Good luck for us - we got sweets. Well - it was a rainy day - so we decided to go back onto our armchair. We put away our costumes - well - not everybody did it. Maybe a real ghost - we all were very curious. Fortunately not - it was a new ToyVoyager here - called Hoots. We were very surprised, because we didn't know that he would come. He was invited more than 6 weeks ago... Dicker Kumpel gave him a warm welcome. RikeH told us that we should eat something normal, before eating all the candys, so we had some burgers. I shared mine with Dicker Kumpel. It was yummy. We will spend the rest of the day looking out of the window - and watching the ghosts outside. love Timothy

RikeH Posted Nov 12, 2010, 8:54 pm	Hi Mum, The weather was awful here the last days.So we were not able to go outside. We decided to play Pool. Dicker Kumpel showed us, how to play. These are the balls I had to put into the edges. I tried it. Very successful - I won the game! After it we played in the room. It seems that horses lived here. Then I tried to call you, but you were not at home. I will go to my next host now - so I had to say goodbye to Dicker Kumpel. He is such a nice host - I will miss him. But he told me that Katja is a great host! The others gave me a big hug. I will write again soon, when I am in Remscheid. love Timothy
olgamaus Posted Nov 17, 2010, 4:13 pm	Hi Mummy, I arrived at my new host's home. Katja and another ToyVoyager, Squirt, were already waiting for me. Rike put a package of liquorice into my envelope, I only tried some of them, but I did not like it. Than we said "Hello" to the pets. Katja is keeping three ferrets! They were looking really hungry. In the afternoon we took a walk to the municipal park. The frist photos were taken close to my current ho me. They are showing houses which are typical for this regioin, the "Bergisches Land". Soon we reached the municipal park. You can find the observatory in its entrace area. There is a pond in the park. Katja told me that turtles and ducks were living here. I found something colourful on this grey day. We had to buy a few things here. That's all for today Bye Timothy III.

olgamaus Posted Nov 24, 2010, 1:46 pm	Hi Mummy, we finally had great weather today after endless rain. We took a hiking tour with Katja's friend Erika in Wuppertal, one of the neighbour cities. Katja's own ToyVoyager Nathalie also went with us. She came home from Italy a few days ago. They have large forests here with valleys, rivers and creeks. We started our hiking tour on the "Samba-Trasse", a forner railway track, now made to a lane for pedestrians and cyclists. We walked along a waste inciniratioin plant. Here you can see one of the abandoned train stations. Close to the old station I saw allotment gardens. We left the Samba-Trasse here and walked into the forest. There are lots of route markings. Which is the one we have to follow? Although the sun was shining it was rather cold outside. In the valley a sewage works is situated. Can you see it through the trees? We walked ... and walked ... We reached a part of the forest which belongs to an arboretum. Many trees from foreign countries were planted here. Some of them were really looking strange to me. Katja told me that this tree also was one of the foreign trees. Those trees on the right side of the next photo are definitely not European trees! You can find some artwork in the forest, carved mushrooms for example, or those owls. Katja told me that they were "carved" with a chainsaw. Is there anyone allergic to hazel? What a lovely blur of colour! When we left the forest we reached the district Wuppertal-Cronenberg, one of the oldest districts with an historic old town centre. This church was built in 1767 A.D. Katja showed me nice old half-timbered houses in narrow alleys. We turned back to the forest to walk towards Remscheid. In the distance you can see the city centre of Remscheid on its hill, the two towers belong to the city hall and the water tower. After more than four hours walking we returned to the municipal area of Remscheid. My feet were aching really  hard, but I still had to walk to Erika's home to have a coffee. Bye Timothy

olgamaus Posted Nov 24, 2010, 7:08 pm	In the afternoon we started to prepare Christmas presents. Katja made a liqueur with lemon and ginger. For marking this liqueur you need 150 g ginger 4 all-natural lemons 375 g sugar 375 ml water 175 ml lemon juice 1 bottle vodka (0,75 l) First we had to peel the ginger and cut it into thin slices. Than the lemons had be peeled really thin - without leaving anything of the white stuff on the peel. The lemons had to be squeezed. Than we had to cook water, sugar, lemon juice, lemon peel and ginger for about 10 minutes. This mixture had to cool down a bit than. We put it into a large glass. Than the vodka was given to the mixture and the glass was closed securely. Now it has to infuse for two weeks. Than we'll have to strain it and fill it into small bottles. Bye Timothy
olgamaus Posted Nov 27, 2010, 8:40 pm	Hi Mummy, we made a shopping trip to Wuppertal today. Last weekend our hiking tour was following the outskirts of this town. Today we went there with another of Katja's friends. My first view from the parking deck: Katja told me that the tower belongs to the city hall. I would see it later. In the background you can see the skywalk of one of the shopping malls. Katja showed me this jewelry in the shopping street. The Wuppertaler Uhrenmuseum (clock museum) is situated here. This three-wheels-clock on the facade was built from parts of an  horse-drawn vehicle which was crashed in an accident. This is the city hall with a daily farmer's market in front of it. Here you can see the "Bergischer Löwe" (Bergisch Lion), the heraldic animal of the former state "Berg", which existed from 12th to 19th century. Nowadays the lion is the heraldic animal of many cities, also of Remscheid and Wuppertal. This is the rear side of the city hall. Another shopping mall is situated here, also part of the Christmas market. Katja bought a few things here and we went on. Later we went into another shopping mall, this one close to the parking deck. We reached this rural area soon. This is Berti, an Entlebuch Mountain dog. This dog breed is originally from Switzerland. In the background you can see the city centre of Remscheid, with the two towers of the city hall and the water tower. It was really cold so I was glad when we reached the car. Bye Timothy
olgamaus Posted Dec 1, 2010, 5:24 pm	Hi Mummy, we have snow!!! We took a walk in the city centre because Katja wanted to buy knitting needles. This is the city hall. A christmas market and an ice skating rink are in front of the city hall. These large forceps are marking the entrance to the shopping street. The forceps are symbols for the local tool producing industry. The large fountain in front of the shopping mall is covered in winter. Katja  likes this store. You can buy flowers and decorating items here. Soon we reached the end of the shopping street. Katja bought her knitting needles and we had to walk back to her workplace. Bye Timothy

We had actually planned to take a walk somewhere, but we only made it to the video shop to get some DVDs and have a lazy day. When we came home after 15 minutes we looked like Yeti Katja needed to take some laundry from the attic, we had a look out of the roof light. This is our roof. Let's see how it will be tomorrow. The sidewalks are partly full of snow, walking is extremely exhausting than. Here you can see the city hall with the christmas market in front of it. The water tower is close to the city hall. You can see those two towers of the city hall and the water tower from far away. Here you can see the central bus station. The next photo is showing the public library. Soon we reached the shopping mall. On the left side you can see the theatre, in the background the city hall. We than went back to work, but not without buying delicious Chinese food for lunch. It will connect the station with the city centre. We are at the staton now. It is a new built station, it was re-opened about one and a half year ago. In the background you can see a housing area, it is called "Hohenhagen". We took a walk with dog Berti there. Bye Timothy
olgamaus Posted Dec 13, 2010, 6:19 pm	Hi Mummy, it was raining at the weekend and it was much warmer outside. So the snow melted partly. We enjoyed coffee and delicous Stollen and Baumkuchen. Baumkuchen is a kind of layered cake. It is a traditional dessert in many countries in Europe. The characteristic golden rings that appear when sliced give the cake its German name, Baumkuchen, which literally translates to "tree cake" or "log cake". Stollen is a loaf-shaped cake containing dried fruit, and covered with sugar, powdered sugar or icing. The cake is usually made with chopped candied fruit and/or dried fruit, nuts and spices. Stollen is a traditional German cake, usually eaten during the Christmas season. I'm afraid I'll have to loose some weight in January Bye Timothy
olgamaus Posted Dec 18, 2010, 10:53 am	Hi Mummy, do you remember the lemon-ginger-liqueur we made two or three weeks before? Today we finished it. Katja has collected several small bottles over the year to fill them with the liqueur. First we had to pour the liquid off from the ginger and lemon peel. The liqueur was filled into the bottles. Now we have to print labels and stick them to the bottles. We'll try the liqueur soon! It should be served chilled. Bye Timothy

olgamaus Posted Dec 20, 2010, 6:03 pm	Hi Mummy, outside it is snowing without an end. Nobody wants to go out. Instead we prepared more Christmas presents. We made a garlic relish today. You need lots of garlic bulbs, a little bit oil, aluminium foil and empty glasses. Each garlic bulb had to be wrapped into aluminium foil. Than they were put into the pre-heated baking oven - 180°C - for 45 minutes. In the meantime we looked if it was still snowing. The whole window was covered with snow! After baling the garlic bulbs were cut into halfes than. The inside was soft than. With a knife or a small spoon the garlic cloves were taken out. We had even two of those bowls full of garlic cloves! All the garlic cloves were put into the mixer with some oil. The creamy stuff was filled into glasses. The surface was covered with some oil. Stored in the fridge you can use this garlic relish for months. Bye Timothy

This area was used for military purposes until 2004 A.D as a shooting range. Today there is a local recreation area with vast open areas. A lot of people come with their dogs and let them run and play here. This is Pepe. When we were chilled to the bone we went back to the car. It was hard to find a parking place because the narrow streets here are stucked with tons of snow. Bye Timothy

We went to say Hello to Katja's sister-in-law, she is celebrating her birthday today. She is living in this street. We hope that the remains of the snow will also melt soon! Bye Timothy
olgamaus Posted Jan 16, 2011, 12:33 pm	Hi Mummy, today the sun was shining, finally after weeks with a dark grey cloudy sky. Of course we went outside in the afternoon. The first photo was taken in the street where I am living at the moment. The large building on the opposite side of this intersection is the local court. We decided to take a walk on the "Trasse des Werkzeugs" (Route of tools), a lane for pedestrians and cyclists built on a closed railway track. This lane is about 5 km long, connecting the central station with the district Hasten. The building work was sponsored by local industrial companies. You can find signs with their logos alsong the lane. Here are some of them and also the coat of arms of Remscheid. Even today you can still find industrial companies along the lane. Katja likes this lane because you can take a longer walk here with rarely getting into contact with traffic. From this point sometimes you can see Colone in the distance. We reached Hasten than, an old district with lots of nice old buildings. Stumping through the snow is really exhausting. I was glad when we came back home. Bye Timothy

silkwinged Posted Feb 2, 2011, 10:28 pm	Hi Mum, I arrived safely in England late today. It's warmer than Germany and there is no snow. My new host is a student and lives in student accomodation. It's big and lots of people live here. I didn't eat the sweets while travelling like I promised so my host shared them with me. They were yummy! We played some video games. I got to see what we will study in class tomorrow. It was Japanese! It looks difficult but I'm excited! I will get to go to university lessons all week! Bye, Timothy III
silkwinged Posted Feb 4, 2011, 6:57 pm	Hi Mum, Today was my first day of lessons. I went to Japanese class in the Fylde building. Here is the view out of the window, we were very high up. Here I am ready to learn! After the lesson we went back to the flat and I helped cook bacon sandwiches. Learning is hungry work. We also drank hot chocolate, white hot chocolate mixed with normal hot chocolate. It was really creamy. Here is the view from the kitchen window. There are lots of flats in student halls. After sandwiches we hung out in my host's friend's room. He has a big television. I also made some friends. I told them about my adventures. Maybe they would like to explore the world one day. Afterwards we went to one stop, the shop round the corner. We looked at the tasty biscuits. As I'm in England I had to see the tea! Afterwards we went to the chinese supermarket and bought some tinned lyches. We bought some stuffed with pineapple which was very sweet and tasty. We also bought coconut cream buns that were delivered fresh today. They were very very tasty. I had a busy day today! I will be going to another lesson tomorrow. Bye, Timothy III

This time it was about Nationalism and imperialism in Asia and we learnt about Ghandi in India. That night I got to listen to one of my host's friends play guitar in the kitchen. He was really good! He also had a ukelele! I helped them cook dinner. It was vegetarian spaghetti bolognese. Doesn't it look tasty? Tomorrow there aren't any lessons but there is still work to do. Bye, Timothy III
silkwinged Posted Feb 5, 2011, 3:34 pm	Hi Mum, We woke up at midday today because there wasn’t any lessons. We went to the library to work on a group presentation. I’m afraid I couldn’t help much so I admired the view out of the window. Here I am looking at a few books. We went to a small party to celebrate Chinese New Year. It's the year of the rabbit now. We drank special chinese tea. They had a big chocolate cake to celebrate. I managed to get a piece with the rabbit's bottom on! For dinner that night we had what we found in the cupboards, it was very mismatched! I helped make some vegetarian sausages. You just add water to the mixture, made them sausage shaped and fry them. It was fun! After that we ate some vegetarian sushi. I had a bit with some cucumber in with soy sauce. The soy sauce came in a little fish shaped bottle which was very cute. For dessert we ate some chocolate. It was a milk tray selection box. I liked the caramel ones the best. Tomorrow we're going to a free concert. I'm a little scared because there will be lots of people but my host and friends say they'll keep me safe. Bye, Timothy III
silkwinged Posted Mar 27, 2011, 4:15 pm	Hi Mum, Sorry for the lack of updates. My host had a lot of university work all at once but I helped as much as I could! I'll do a big update now. I've been to two concerts and even met people from the televison. The first concert had many bands but some were boring so I helped play chess with my host and their friends. I got to ride in one of their pockets and he made me a hat to wear. When the main band called Brontide played we got to stand right at the front. It was very loud with guitars and drums but no singing. My host says it's called post-rock music. Afterwards they bought the record and I got to be in a photo with the band and my host's friends! The second concert was for the acapella band called The Blanks. They are from the television programme called Scrubs. They were very funny and we got to meet the band afterwards! We got our tickets signed. I also helped make a big cake. First it was just going to be two seperate cakes. But then we swirled the cake mix together and it stayed like that after it cooked. It was fun icing the cake with lots of chocolate icing and little chocolate stars. The cake was really tasty. I've also been eating cornish pasties. And I got to see a duck really close up! silkwinged Posted Jun 5, 2011, 12:50 pm	Hi Mum, This is my last update with this host as I'm going to Chile! I went back to my host's home town with them. We got a train then rode the buses. Here is me waiting for a bus. I visted their grandparents and helped them in their garden. We went out to see the ducks and swans. They told me how big swans are and I got a little afraid. To conquer my fear I got to play with a smaller swan first. I managed to get quite close to a real swan as well. We also saw some ducklings. They were very cute. The day before I set out on my travels we had ate pizza, sugar mice and drank sarsaparilla. The pizza arrived with a piece already missing! Here I am on my way. Bye bye United Kingdom! Timothy III
Leslie Posted Jun 25, 2011, 11:18 pm	I arrived in Chile! Luckily just in time for the celebration of the Mapuche new year! known as "Wetripantu" in Mapudungun (Mapuche language). Oh, by the way, Mapuches are the chilean aborigines.  First we went around the stands in a square watching and trying some food. They told me this yellow thing is called "chuchoca", it's dry mashed corn.  This woman was wearing the typical mapuche dress and jewelry! And this man was wearing the mapuche male costume. I found this trolley and wanted to get closer to see what was on sale. Candied apples!  Yummy!!  I heard a puppet show was about to start, so we got closer to see if we could find a good place to watch... ...but everywhere was so full that we ended up where the actors were, behind scene!  I saw the very start of the show and recorded a video! That way you can hear the sound of the mapuche instruments. I saw something was going on with cameras and microphones so I got closer to see  They were cameras from TV! They were interviewing some politician guy... As I got closer they didn't take long to notice me and I took part of the interview as well  Soon enough they forgot about the politician and I was the main star,  I told them about my journey and ToyVoyagers project. It was quite an exiting day!!
Leslie Posted Jun 28, 2011, 8:12 pm	Yesterday we went to walk Leslie's dog, and since our house is in the very edge of the city, the countryside and a forest are just a few steps away! This is her, Licy. I was excited to meet her but she didn't really pay much attention to me... she was busy running and playing around...  From up here you can see our village. And this is the view to the other side. Then we walked through a path in the forest, but always near the edge  And look what I found! A copihue! The national flower of Chile, which only grows in forests and ravines and it's very hard to find! Most of them are not flowering in this time of the year. How lucky I am!
Leslie Posted Jul 3, 2011, 3:35 am	Look at this huge fabric! it caught my attention when i came into the house in my very first day here! It's from Bolivia. It's nice isn't it  And I also found this big flag. Leslie told me that the red color symbolizes the blood spread during the conquest, the blue color, the sky, and the white color, the snow in the mountains.
Leslie Posted Jul 10, 2011, 10:33 pm	I asked Leslie what nice places were there around, and she suggested Ñielol Hill, so in the afternoon he headed there  We went up in the car and near the parking lot there were these 4 meters tall mapuche totems! They are called Chemamulls. There was a fallen one near the others, because it was rotten. I took a closer look at him. Another thing that caught my attention were all the ashes on the ground! They came from Puyehue volcano, which is erupting in the south.  From this high view point you can see Temuco, and notice that everything looks kind of white... that's because of the ash fall. Mushrooms!  how nice! Then we headed to the information centre, which had a little natural museum indise!! There was an embalmed condor!!! It is the national bird of Chile and also the largest flying bird in the world!! It has a wingspan of about 3.2 m (10.5 ft) and can live up to 100 years!  What an amazing bird!! Then I moved to these "piñones", the seed of Araucaria tree, the national tree of Chile. There were headphones to hear some information.  Near there was a huge map of the 9th region of Chile, "La Araucanía" which where I am now. I learned that just in La Araucanía there are 7 volcanoes! And in Chile, more than 2,900!!! which is the 15% of all the volcanoes in the world I saw this embalmed Chilla Fox. ...And this huge rodent called Coipo.  Nice teeth buddy!  I also saw some other typical birds from this area. And last but not least, a volcanic "bomb". A rock trown by a volcano... lucky that we are not near the erupting volcano! I wounld't really like to see rocks like this falling from the sky!  And that was it.  I really enjoyed today!!
Leslie Posted Jul 17, 2011, 3:54 am	A new TV joined me ! her name is Fiona and she's a lovely llama from USA. I welcomed her and then told her something Leslie had told me just a while ago, We are going on a trip to the north!  We got some supplies into our backpacks and were ready early, but had to wait for Leslie, since she said she needed to get some stuff done before leaving. We were so anxious and she was taking so long!  When Leslie was almost ready I suggested that we could go ahead, at least to the garden and wait for her there. But when we were opening the door we heard a voice saying "wait for me!"... It was a pelican asking us not to leave him behind, he introduced himself as Wilson, a resident toy living here at Leslie's house. He said he's coming too  Great! more toys, more fun  And then finally we left! You'll see more pictures later

We are in La Serena city, in the north!  The weather is much nicer here than in Temuco, and we are next to the sea  Today we visited a japanese garden called Kokoro No Niwa, Leslie told me it means Heart garden. Look at the sign... It's in japanese and spanish! How was I supposed to know the meaning! Ahhh... so nice  Look at me! Can you see me?? I'm using my camouflage skills, Fiona was looking for me and took long to find me! haha  A lemon!  Leslie was talking about how nice it looks hanging on the tree but all I could think was how would it taste in one of my salads... What a nice fish was swimming right in front of me! But he didn't want to come closer for a photo with me... These are some unfriendly black necked swan turning their backs on me...  I'm a herbivore! I won't hurt you!  I'm loving this city mom! I think you would like it too
Leslie Posted Jul 25, 2011, 5:26 pm	I found some lost pictures of the road from Santiago to La Serena  The weather was lovely for 7 hours of drive. That night we had traveled from Temuco to Santiago which was 8 hours long, but traveling is never enough for me  Windmills!  We had traveled so much that we were tired, it was nap time! Look at Los Andes mountain range back there! The Region of Coquimbo (where La Serena is), is also called region of transversal valleys, because there are many mountain cords orientated from the mountain range to the sea. Back there you can see one of the mountains! This means we are already near La Serena!
Leslie Posted Jul 27, 2011, 9:38 pm	We went around exploring La Serena and not far from where we are staying there was the main and oldest square of the city. Around the square there was this beautiful and very old church, Santo Domingo, I loved its dome!    To the other side, there was this other cathedral called La Serena, it was beautiful too  Later we headed to a traditional restaurant and I found this chili plant! How cute  And there were also some other lovely flowers  I tried a mini lemmon pie, it was yummy!  And then Fiona and I tried papaya candies!  I liked it  There are so many papaya things here!
Leslie Posted Jul 28, 2011, 10:09 pm	Next to La Serena there is another city, Coquimbo. Yesterday we went to a fortress there. I heard it was built in 1865 to defend Coquimbo in the war with Spain back then but I also heard a leyend about a pirate and a buried treasure , so Fiona and I were more interested in walking around it, who knows if we find something!  Ahh... what a nice view from here  Can you see the pelicans!? They were not really social guys so they didn't want to come closer...  See? We were serious about looking for the treasure, even though climbing those huge stairs was hell... WOW! those thorns must really hurt!  I loved the shape of these rocks!!  Look! baby cactuses on the rock! Then we enjoyed a saw a beautiful sunset. There was no clue of the treasure, but the landscapes we got to see were more than enough  It was a wonderful day!
Leslie Posted Aug 3, 2011, 1:58 am	We are here at the Bus Terminal waiting for our bus, to go to Pisco Elqui, the most famous town of the Elqui Valley, the most famous valley, and the place with the clearest sky in the world!!  There were these cool mosaics on the walls showing famous things from the La Serena and Elqui Valley Maybe I'll see some of that soon!! We heard our bus was here! So we hurried... we didn't want to be late! Of course we had to do the queue like everyone else... Look at this vineyard and the huge moutains back there! And we arrived in Pisco Elqui! This is the church of the town. ...and there was a very nice fountain in the main square, right in front of the church. It was lunch time, we were so hungry... So we went to the first restaurant we found!  In the afternoon the sky still had its intense blue colour... Mom!! I'm seeing the clearest sky in the world!!!  We are going to spend the night here in the Pisco Elqui Tomorrow we'll visit another town of the valley.
Leslie Posted Aug 4, 2011, 1:19 am	The night was cold but beautiful, I'd never seen so many stars in my life!  In the morning we woke up and headed to Montegrande, another town in the valley. This is the main church... and look at the bright blue sky! Ohh so nice  Leslie told us this is Gabriela Mistral, the first Latin American to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.  She was raised here in Montegrande, even though she was born in another town of the valley. Later we went to Vicuña, which is where Gabriela Mistral was born. Leslie said there's a museum dedicated to her, I hope we can go there! Look at this tower! It's called Bauer Tower and it was before used as the municipality of Vicuña, but now I think it's just a turistic attraction. I found a map of the valley!  Maybe it's to small to see it clearly in the picture, but there you can see three of the observatories around here. I told you this is the clearest sky in the world  We entered the museum but we weren't allowed to take pictures inside  It was lunch time, we were told about a very old colonial house working as a restaurant, so we went there and had a big plate of "chilean locos"  which was enough to have us both full. We found this is the orange paradise! There are thousands of oranges growing everywhere, just like grapes and avocado!! In the afternoon we walked around the town. Look at this! It's Gabriela's face coming out of the ground  Of course we had to stop and take some time to play hide and seek around this cool tree...  Ohh, these things were so interesting! They're andean saxophones! I even got to hear them played!  ...And this is another instrument, which name I can't remember...  And that was our trip to the valley  In the afternoon we went back to La Serena.
Leslie Posted Aug 6, 2011, 5:18 am	We are now in Coquimbo again, the city next to La Serena. We heard there was a muslim mosque somewhere up in a hill, and went looking for it  We found it, but sadly it was closed due to some reparations so we couldn't go in  Still beautiful from outside though  Then we headed to the top of another hill where this famous "Third Millenium Cross" is. Leslie told us it's 83 metres tall and the tallest monument in South America!  Up there you can see some squares... well... they are windows! Leslie said we are going up there! So cool, but so vertiginous! This is the view to the city and the gulf. It was already late, and like always, we were hungry  We had some chinese food today. A yummy mongolian beef with rice and wantan. And of course some lovely soft drinks... And later we were so tired and full so we went back to our hotel to rest
Leslie Posted Aug 8, 2011, 10:34 pm	Today's our last day in La Serena, tomorrow we are going back to stormy and cold Temuco...  We made plans to go to the beach, and when were almost there I saw that lighthouse... I think I've seen it somewhere before but I can't remember where... Do you know where? Ohh yeah, it was one of the mosaics in the bus terminal!! Cool~~ There were many white shells on the sand... But we liked these pointy ones  Then we relaxed after the tiring walk to the beach... It was a lovely nap! Then, when we woke up, we saw a nice restaurant nearby  And they had a surf school right there too! Ahhh... what a nice way to spend our last afternoon here
Leslie Posted Aug 11, 2011, 9:25 pm	It was time to come back to the south and even though we liked the north a lot, we haven't explored Temuco yet! So we packed our stuff and off we went! I thought we were in a bus, not in the Delorean!!  Are we time traveling!!??  Remember Wilson? We became good friends even though he didn't want to be in our pictures because he said he isn'an official Toyvoyager... See how the weather started to change as we headed south  The sky turned all gray, and the photos wouldn't look so nice, so Fiona and I took a nap. It was like that for the rest of the day until we got to Santiago at night. Then we caught another bus to Temuco. It was about 15 hours of traveling!

Leslie Posted Aug 23, 2011, 11:38 pm	Hi mum! Today Leslie said she had a suprise for us!  She took us to a something that looked like a warehouse from outside... is this really the surprise? I thought  ... But then someone opened it, and we realized it was a hangar!!  And then I looked to my side and we were right next to the airport runway!! A pilot-looking guy took out the red plane and started getting it ready. I asked Leslie where are we going and she said to Puerto Montt, a city in the south!    What better way to explore than from the air!?  While the pilot was preparing some stuff, we played around the plane  Look at me! I'm flying mum! And now I'm a pilot  How cool is that! ...And Fiona is my copilot! Then we were told to sit and put our seat belts on because we were about to take off!  There you can see Llaima volcano! The one I saw from Cherquenco the other day! Ohh everything looks so beautiful from up here!  Can you see the lake between those mountains? Back there is the eruption of Puyehue volcano! It's erupting since June 4, and the ash cloud went around the world more than twice!!  Entering a very turbulent thick cloud! That's Llanquihue lake down there, it's huge!! And that's Osorno volcano!... Chile has so many volcanoes!! That is Puerto Varas. Leslie said it's a small but very beautiful city! And this is finally out destination city: Puerto Montt  Tomorrow we'll explore around by foot... or air, who knows Hugs! Timothy

We are so lucky, we got to fly today again!!  This time we flew around Puerto Montt to see the beautiful shore and Andes mountain range  Look at the rain back there!  A little further the weather was so much better! Look at the mountain range! Splendid!  Back to Puerto Montt... What a fantastic day!

I liked these nice stained glass windows!  Then we entered the market, to look for a restaurant  Look at all that weird seafood!  Huge monsters!  Help! We finally found the restaurant we were looking for  We ordered "empanadas" (chilean typical food) While we were waiting I noticed the interesting carving on the tables... And I found a great shelter! Empanada!  Yummy!

Leslie Posted Sep 1, 2011, 11:42 pm	It was time to fly back to Temuco. The sky was a little cloudy near Puerto Montt, but as we came closer to Temuco it was cloudier and everything looked gray... Remember Llanquihue lake? back there is Osorno volcano, but it was covered by clouds... I think that cloud over there looks like an elephant! And this one like an axe  turning arouuuund! When we got home, we found these nice postcards waiting for us. Kirin and Ranil sent them to Leslie, how nice  Kisses!
Leslie Posted Sep 8, 2011, 2:51 am	Hi Mum! We have been in Temuco for almost a week already, but the weather has been horrible and we couldn't go out until today, finally! We visited a museum about different native chilean races. I learned about mapuches and onas, and some other ones whose names I can't remember  This is it, a big old house. The museum section was in the basement. On the ground floor there was a little shop, I was welcomed by these nice ladies  I saw this mapuche musical instrument, kultrún, like the ones they were playng on the mapuche new year celebration, remember mum?? Then we went down to the basement, where the real interesting things were! Wow! Look at all that jewelry!! I don't know about you mom, but I don't particularly fancy these shoes...! I liked this paiting of mapuche people gathered around a totem! There you can see someone playing a kultrún as well! And that's it. I really enjoyed today! See ya!

Today we went to a mall and there was a really nice decoration!  Then we had some cheesecake to give Petunia a proper welcome I heard that we might be traveling somewhere tomorrow, but Leslie hasn't told us anything official yet...  Bye bye!

Leslie Posted Sep 22, 2011, 5:48 am	Hi mum!  Today is the independence day!  We slept on a bus last night and woke up in Puerto Montt today in the morning!  This is the view from the house we are staying at! Very very beautiful, don't you think so!? But we didn't spend the day here, we went to a beautiful lake called Todos los Santos, to celebrate eating skewers On our way we saw Calbuco volcano, which looks more like a big mountain to me, but it is a volcano, at least that's what Leslie said... Leslie said "the bigger we see Osorno volcano, the closer we are to the lake" so according to the size of the volcano we must be quite close! Here it is!! Todos los Santos lake!  Look at all the beautiful mountains back there!  Look at me! I'm standing on a volcanic rock! We moved to a picnic table right there in the lakeside and helped with the skewers!  Yummy!! I'm not so sure about being a vegetarian anymore...  Later we went to the Petrohué waterfalls which are the river mouth of Todos los Santos lake. I really enjoyed this independence day even if we didn't get to see any national traditional stuff!  Bye! Timothy

Today we wanted to see the city where we are, so we got ready to go on a little city tour!  First we went to a high viewpoint where we could see all the gulf and a part of the city... there was an extremely cold wind up there!! Then we went to the main square which is by waterfront! in fact all the city centre is by the waterfront! It's very nice! There were three flags, the chilean one in the middle and the other two are Puerto Montt flags. I liked this monument very much. It shows the arrival of the settlers to the south of Chile. Next to the sqare there was this nice church with a huge dome made of copper! We sat to rest for a little while on a bench with a nice mosaic in the backrest And I found this nice fish mosaic in another bench! Then we kept walking through the waterfront... This huge monument is called "sentados frente al mar" (seated by the sea). This couple is very famous and they even have their own song!! Then we headed to the port area, where all the fishing boats and some ferries were. There were some stands selling seafood... This crab caught my attention!  Then we went back home... What a nice day we had! But we weren't tired enough to let it end already...

I went to both!  Wow, not bad!  And then we won quite a big amount!  We decided to give some to Leslie to thank her for her hospitality, and spend the rest ourselves!  I'm having such a good time here! Today we went to a parcel called Bellavista (which means beautiful view) First we drove down a road by Llanquihue lake for about one hour, by the way, this is the lake that I saw from the plane last time, remember? This is it. What a beautiful view!  Look at that! Llamas! Just like Fiona! I wanted to get closer to see if I could talk with them. This one seemed interested in talking with me, so she came closer  We talked for a long time, I told her about my voyages around the world, and then another one came to hear my stories! They were both amazed by my adventures!  Then I wanted to see the other animals around, but they were behind a fence. But there was an emu near me, so I went to talk to him! But he wasn't so social... after a little chat he stood up and left... Anyway, it was such a good day!  Bye! Timothy
Leslie Posted Oct 4, 2011, 2:22 am	Hi Mum! Today we went to a little town called Calbuco which is half on an island and half on the continent. On our way we stopped at this lagoon. Leslie said that many birds from far away come here to breed and this is the season when you can see them! Then me and the others went closer to hear the singing of the birds, which was very loud and relaxing! Then we went down to the water to see if we could find any baby bird or egg... But we didn't find any... all the birds flew away as they saw us!  Then we kept driving to Calbuco and on our way we did some stops to take photos  From up here I could see Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes back there. There were some nice sheep and lambs by the road  After a while we got to Calbuco finally! This is the main square, there is a very nice view from up here as you can see in the back! And this is the main church of the town. What a nice day! Bye, Timothy

Even though the independence day was a few weeks ago, today we wanted to cook traditional food, so Leslie suggested empanadas!  First we cooked the "pino" which is a mixture of beef, onions, garlic, olives, egg, salt and oregano. Then we prepared the dough, cut it in pieces, filled them with the "pino" and fried them, and that's it! we are done! We took the liberty of cooking some of our size, so they were easier for us to eat  We also had "digüeñes" for salad, which are orange mushrooms that grow on some trees in this time of the year, they taste very good with vinegar and coriander!  See you soon mum! Leslie Posted Oct 15, 2011, 5:55 pm	Hi mum! How are you? We are having a crazy weather over here, one day it's sunny and warm and the next it's rainy and cold! Today we made a little trip to a Town called Cunco and found a museum (which was closed  ) but we were still able to sneak in the garden where there were some Mapuche totems, very cool stuff!  Also in the garden there was this "ruca", a traditional mapuche house, of course they're not used nowadays anymore... I also learned that most of them have cone shape and their doors made of straw... so this is a pretty luxurious one  .  Here we are standing on a volcanic rock  There were lots of them since Cunco is near a volcano called Llaima. See? I'm learning a lot of geography!  Then we drove a little south until we got to a lake called Colico. Then we started looking for a place to rest and watch the sunset. This trunk looked pretty comfortable  How beautiful!  After the sun set it started to get very cold and the mosquitoes were buzzing around, so we hurried back to the car and drove back home to Temuco. Ideal to go out and take pictures... but we did none of that and instead went to the centre to some borring offices! ... Although in one of the offices there was a nice mural showing two snakes. Leslie said they're called "Trentren & Caicai" and they are from a Mapuche leyend about the creation of the world!  very interesting! See you soon! Timothy
Leslie Posted Oct 23, 2011, 2:33 am	Hi mum! We came to relax to Leslie's summerhouse!  It's in a small fishing village called Queule which is surrounded by beautiful hills and beaches! This is the view from the highway while getting there! There you can see the river mouth of Queule river and the whole peninsula. There is a lighthouse in its end, but it's small so you can't see it in the picture. We passed through a field full of infinite calla lilies so we made a stop to see them closer and smell them! Then we got to the house!  The first thing that caught my attention were the plants in the garden! I'd never seen this one! It's called nalca (Chilean rhubarb) and it's very big! This is its flower. I was told that some people eat their stems with salt! Leslie told me she once tried it but didn't like it at all! And she didn't let me try it either, she said she wouldn´t break her plants' stems.  The nalca was surrounded by some very nice forget-me-nots. These are the flowers of a plant called chilco. They're the hummingbirds' favourite meal!  I liked this fern's long buds!  These wild flowers smell very good! I don't know their name though... There was a big quartz rock in the garden as well! It was found in one of the hills near here!  Then it was lunch time, we were very hungry after the drive! our salad today was cochayuyo (a seaweed) with some onion and coriander. It tasted a little like digüeñes!  Then after lunch we decided to go to the beach! To get there we had to walk for about 40 minutes up and down the hills! The weather wasn't so nice so we didn't take our swimming suits... From up the hill we could see Ronca beach. The word ronca means "snore" and the beach is called like that because of the loud sound of its waves! They really do sound loud! Look at this!  There was a giant root by the road! very impressive! I liked to walk and balance on the branches, they  reminded me of the inside of an anthill, and we are the ants!  Then we got to the beach we were walking to! Agua de las niñas beach, which means "water of the girls" in Spanish, what a funny name! I think its called like that because of the shallow depth of the ocean here, which makes it very safe for kids.  There was a big rock full of holes everywhere! Do you know what might have caused them? Maybe the aliens!  ...or just the erosion.  We moved through the rocks... and I realized that we were standing on seaweed! and some baby mussels! There was a big cave, but it looked a little creepy inside so we didn't want to go in!  I wrote a little message on the sand  Then I found manta ray eggs! There were lots of them everywhere!  How cool! This is not just any rock... this used to be the stair in the entrance of a summerhouse before the tsunami of 1960!  Queule was totally destroyed and later rebuilded nearby, which is where it is now. How do I look as a sailor?  I met a crab, but we wasn't friendly at all! You should have seen what he did to poor Petunia!! Later we walked back home. What a nice day! Love, Timothy
Leslie Posted Oct 25, 2011, 10:38 pm	Hi mummy! So as soon as I woke up I went to the deck to see the lovely view and breathe some fresh air from the sea! It's a good thing that today the weather was so much better than yesterday! Then me and the others went down to the waterfront to see the fishing boats and the birds from closer. There were some fishermen on a boat cutting fish and feeding the birds, so there were pelicans and seagulls flying over our heads with fish guts in their peaks! Back there is the main dock of the town. We walked to a view point called El Tope. What a view!! Behind me is Los pinos island. The beach is called La herradura (the horseshoe) because of its shape and it's 9 kilometers long!  That's Queule! see? It's a very small town. Nice and quiet  There was a tsunami sign, in fact there were many! In 2010 there was an earthquake and a tsunami in Chile, but nothing really bad happened here in Queule, just a few docks and boats were destroyed, thankfully the wave wasn't so big here! Here there's a video filmed from the summerhouse that day. This little dock, for example, was destroyed and rebuilt later. Can you guess the name of this rock? A clue, it's the king of the jungle ...king of the jungle with some trees on his back! Bye mum! I want to see you, I might go back home soon!  Timothy
Leslie Posted Oct 26, 2011, 7:34 pm	Hey mum! how are you? Yesterday was our last day in Queule! After lunch we had to pack, and when we were done, we were had some free time to do whatever we like, so we decided to go to a beach we hadn't been to before! It's called Cheuque. The waves here are big and noisy as you can see! well... you can only see they're big, but trust me, they're loud! There are giant rocks in the sea where no humans can reach, perfect home for seagulls and other birds to nest  Between all these rocks there was plenty of sea life  from starfish and sea snails to some trapped fish from the last high tide!  We spent some time playing with the shells, they made perfect sun hats! How do I look? Do you know what it is?? It's cochayuyo! The seaweed I ate the other day! Though... don't ask me what this one smelled like! Believe me, you don't want to know! Time to leave now... we started walking back. Now we are in Temuco again... Not so much fun. See you soon! Timothy
Leslie Posted Oct 29, 2011, 3:37 am	Hey mum! This time we had more free time in the centre than last time, so we went to the main square of the city. This is the most important monument in Temuco. It shows Mapuches with drums and spears and spanish conquerors with rifles and other guns Look what this guy did to me, mum! I believe I know now why mapuches are said not to be so nice! Right next to the square is one of the tallest buildings of the city and the main church. Outside the church there were a lot of priests! I wonder what they were up to! We walked through the hills for about 30 minutes until we got up here, it was very windy, but the view was very very beautiful! The beach is very long and we walked next to the sea foam and the weaves How relaxing! See the hill behind me? That's where we got here from! Look at this poor tree! I told you it's windy here, didn't I? Even look at me! Copihues! I remember seeing one on a forest long ago!!  And how could I forget Osorno volcano! I feel like I already know the most important things of the country haha! See you!
Leslie Posted Nov 12, 2011, 4:47 am	Hi mum! Today I said good bye to all my friends here because I'm going home to see you!! Everyone wished me a good trip! I took one last photo with my good friend Fiona I'm going to miss her, she has been here with me for so long and we had so many adventures together! And then she and Petunia gave me a good bye kiss  And finally I got into my envelope! I hope to get there soon! See you at home mum! Timothy
