Good day to all TV:s and their hosts and mentors!
I have just waken up after the long metamorphosis as some kind of insect. I remember vaguely being a larvae and eating and eating and eating the juicy leaves of some plant, and after that sleeping long and having soft, calm dreams inside some kind of cosy pod. Now I have waken up as a totally different kind of being - I have wings and legs and antennas on my head, and I don´t feel at all hungry or sleepy anymore! I feel like trying the possibilities of this new form of existence - what is this new body able to do and what kind of hings is there to be seen and experienced! Henna, the human being living here, who told me that she is my mentor, says that at the moment it is for some reason impossible to load an avatar here for me, maybe it is the page or maybe her own comp who is being difficult, who knows.. maybe it will be possible a bit later though. Henna lead me to my first adventure - just out of this cottage we are living, to see how the world looks outside. It is all so different now! In my memories from my larvaehood everything was so green, smelly and splendid and full of life! I couldn´t understand what has happened to the world while I was sleeping! Phew! Henna told me this only something called "winter" and with time it will go over and everything will become green and warm again and then the winter will come again and then again the green period called summer. That was the first thing I have learned! Then I saw that here are some green plants growing now too, in middle of all the whiteness, and that made me happy. Henna told me the plants are trees called spruces, and that they are green troughout the whole cykle of the year. I´m glad about he existence of spruces! And! I had learned allready two things! The next interesting thing I learned to know was this wonderful thing called a "swing" ! I really liked the feeling in my little belly when the swing was swinging back and forth! I think it must be something similar to fly. Maybe I will learn to do that one day too - I have wings, although they need to grow more before I can try, and though I´m not sure if I belong to a species which is SUPPOSED to learn to fly! Henna said that i didn´t need to worry about that - that many people (and creatures) do things they even are not supposed to be able to do, and thus go over the expectations of others. Then happened something surprising again! There was this other creature landing suddenly on the swing I was sitting upon! I was watching it but could not decide what kind of toy it was! From the look of it it could have been an insect too.. ..fluffy belly, wings, funny teeth.. but no, I thought it still propably was somekind of mammal, and I was right! The creature introduced herself as being a TV too, and quite new born too, and that she is a mammal called "bat" and that her name is Veronica. I introduced myself too, and then we were swinging together, and I think I just made my first friend! isn´t that great! Veronica then took me to have some refreshments into a little kazebo which is in use of the TV:s living and visiting here. There I also met Ursel HH, the TV staying with Henna at the moment. She is really friendly creature too, a mammal called "mouse". I think I am really going to like this new life I have popped into! I´ll tell you more soon! Now I´ll have my coffee with my new friends. |

I was on the "Hoge Hill" the highest point (dune) in Domburg. A great view! and we took a sunbath At least I saw a lighthouse. |

Hey Mommy,
we had a great time in Belgium with the scouts. First the weather wasn´t fine and my host was sick but then it was a great weekend. We went to Belgium by bus. It was so much fun and everywhere German scouts (11-16 years old) and of course the leaders ... The first night was cold and it was pretty good to sleep with my friends so we could warm each other In the morning I enjoyed the silence because I woke up really early. So I took the time to read a book. But this was the last time for reading. In this camp, called Intercamp were around 2500 scouts from different countries (England, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, America, Canada, Tschechien, Poland and Germany). It was a great view from the banner and gaming point to the tents The Intercamp flag was yellow like the sun and so much children played ... me too My host printed a T-Shirt with the Intercamp 2011 Logo and I tried to wear it, but it was a bit to small and she let me use her Gilwell ... WOWWWWWW It was a great time at Intercamp 2011. |

Hi Mum!
I arrived in Chile finally!!! I heard some noise outside my envelope, and some voices saying that I might be a toyvoyager, and yes! I am a toyvoyager! Then some light and fresh air got in, at last! The ones who opened my envelope welcomed me and introduced themselves, they are Fiona Yenien and Timothy III. They said Leslie had been talking about me lately and saying that I might be lost. How awful would that be! And something else came in the mail today, a lovely postcard from Ranil, written in spanish! How cool is that! from Chile, finally! Petunia |

Hello äiti!
I just learned that the independence day of Chile is on September 18, so everything is already decorated, the streets, the stores, everything. Today we went to a mall and look what a nice decoration they had! We entered a supermarket and there was a folkloric group singing cueca inside!! And then Timothy and Fiona said they wanted to give me what they called "a proper welcome" so they took me to eat some cheesecake I heard that we might be traveling somewhere tomorrow, but Leslie hasn't told us anything official yet... so who knows See you! Petunia |
Leslie Posted Sep 21, 2011, 6:42 am |
Leslie told us we'll travel to Puerto Montt, a city in the south, tonight, to spend the national day there tomorrow!
We helped hanging a big flag in the garden and got a little patriotic as you can see Bye! Petunia |

Hi mum! Today is the independence day!
We slept on a bus last night and woke up in Puerto Montt today in the morning! This is the view from the house we are staying at! Very very beautiful, don't you think so!? But we didn't spend the day here, we went to a beautiful lake called Todos los Santos, to celebrate eating skewers On our way we saw Calbuco volcano, which looks more like a big mountain to me, but it is a volcano, at least that's what Leslie said... Here it is!! Todos los Santos lake! We are standing on volcanic rocks! By the way, look at the beautiful snowy mountains back there! We went to a picnic table right there in the lakeside and helped with the skewers! Yummy! I think I am more of a carnivore kind of instect! Later we went to the Petrohué waterfalls which are the river mouth of Todos los Santos lake. We were surrounded by these huge mountains, it was very beautiful! I really enjoyed this independence day even if we didn't get to see any national traditional stuff! Bye! Petunia |

Hi Mum!
Today we wanted to see the city where we are, so we got ready to go on a little city tour! First we went to a high viewpoint where we could see all the gulf and a part of the city... there was an extremely cold wind up there!! Then we went to the main square which is by waterfront! in fact all the city centre is by the waterfront! It's very nice! There were three flags, the chilean one in the middle and the other two are Puerto Montt flags. I liked this monument very much. It shows the arrival of the settlers to the south of Chile. Next to the sqare there was this nice church with a huge dome made of copper! We sat to rest for a little while on a bench with a nice mosaic in the backrest And I found this nice fish mosaic in another bench! Then we kept walking through the waterfront... This huge monument is called "sentados frente al mar" (seated by the sea). This couple is very famous and they even have their own song!! Then we headed to the port area, where all the fishing boats and some ferries were. There were some stands selling seafood... This crab caught my attention! Then we went back home... What a nice day we had! But we weren't tired enough to let the day end already... |
Leslie Posted Sep 23, 2011, 3:46 pm |
Later in the night we went to Puerto Varas, a very touristic and beautiful city, famous for its casino and church ...and guess what... I went to both!
First I wasn't very lucky... Hmm... Not bad! And then we won quite a big amount! We decided to give some to Leslie to thank her for her hospitality, and spend the rest ourselves! I'm having such a good time here! Petunia |

Hi mum!
Today we went to a parcel called Bellavista (which means beautiful view). First we drove down a road by Llanquihue lake for about one hour. This is it. I think the name really fits the place! Look at that! Llamas! Just like Fiona! Wow, so close! I could almost touch her! Then I went to visit the other animals around, there were emus, sheep and cute lambs, but they were behind a fence. I got closer to take a better look at the emu But he wasn't too friendly... he just stood up and left... Anyway, it was a very nice day! Hugs! Petunia |

Hi Mum!
Today we went to a little town called Calbuco which is half on an island and half on the continent. On our way we stopped at this lagoon. Leslie said that many birds from far away come here to breed and this is the season when you can see them! I went ahead to hear the birds singing... And then the others came along to join me The singing of the birds was very loud and relaxing! Then we all moved closer to the water to see if we could find a baby bird or eggs... But we found nothing... All the birds went away as we approached. But still, what a nice place this is! Then we kept driving to Calbuco and on our way we did some stops to take photos Those are Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes back there. There were some nice sheep and lambs by the road And then we got to Calbuco finally! Here I am crossing the bridge that joins the continent with the island. This is the main square, back there is the main church, there is a very nice view from up here! This is the view from the square, very nice, I told you! What a nice day! Chao! Petunia |

Hi mum!
The day to go back to Temuco arrived today! In the morning we packed our stuff and after lunch we took our bus for our 6-hours drive through the green roads of the south of Chile . We traveled on the front seats of the upper level of a double decker bus. Now, that's style! Haha! Love, Petunia |

Hi mum!
Even though the independence day was a few weeks ago, today we wanted to cook traditional food, so Leslie suggested empanadas! First we cooked the "pino" which is a mixture of beef, onions, garlic, olives, egg, salt and oregano. Then we prepared the dough, cut it in pieces, filled them with the "pino" and fried them, and that's it! we are done! We took the liberty of cooking some of our size, so they were easier for us to eat We also had "digüeñes" for salad, which are orange mushrooms that grow on some trees in this time of the year, they taste very good with vinegar and coriander! See you! Petunia |

Hello mum! How are you?
I was admiring Kirin's update with Leslie today, and I read that there is a storm back at home, I hope you are well! Lucky me to be in this side of the world where spring just started and the trees are blooming, and the temperatures are raising fast! Hope to see you soon! Petunia |

Hello mum! How are you?
The weather has been a little weird over here, yesterday was the coldest and rainiest day in a lot of time, and now we have sun and heat. Today we made a little trip to a Town called Cunco and found a museum (which was closed ) but in the garden there were some Mapuche totems, very cool stuff! Also in the garden there was this "ruca" a traditional mapuche house, of course they're not used nowadays anymore... I also learned that most of them have cone shape and their doors made of straw... so this is a pretty luxurious one . Here we are standing on a volcanic rock There were lots of them since Cunco is near a volcano called Llaima. See? I'm learning a lot of geography, aren't you proud of me?! Then we drove a little south until we got to a lake called Colico. We started looking for a place to rest and watch the sunset. As you can see, finally we found the perfect seats! After the sun set it started to get very cold and the mosquitoes were buzzing around, so we hurried back to the car and drove back home to Temuco. What a nice day! Love, Petunia |

Hello mum!
Today the sky was blue and there was a nice temperature, ideal to go out and take pictures... but we did none of that and instead went to the centre to some -very- borring offices! On the way to the centre I saw a nice catholic church from the car, but there were a lot of power lines in front of it... not very nice! In one of the offices there was a nice mural showing two snakes. Leslie said they are called "Trentren & Caicai", and they're from a Mapuche leyend about the creation of the world! very interesting! Abrazos! Petunia |

Hola mamá!
We came to relax to Leslie's summerhouse! It's in a small fishing village called Queule which is surrounded by beautiful hills and beaches! This is the view from the highway while getting there! There you can see the river mouth of Queule river and the whole peninsula. There is a lighthouse in its end, but it's small so you can't see it in the picture. We passed through a field full of infinite callas so we made a stop to see them closer and smell them! Then we got to the house! The first thing that caught my attention were the plants in the garden! I'd never seen this one! It's called nalca (Chilean rhubarb) and it's very big! This is its flower. I was told that some people eat their stems with salt! Leslie told me she once tried it but didn't like it at all! And she didn't let me try it either, she said she wouldn´t break her plants' stems. The nalca was surrounded by some very nice forget-me-nots. There were also some nice ferns. I took a closer look at its bud, very nice! I really like spring! I don't know why new year isn't in spring... I think it sould be... Since nature begins its cycle every spring, don't you think so too, mum? These are the flowers of a plant called chilco. They're the hummingbirds' favourite! These wild flowers smell very good! I don't know their name though... There was a big quartz rock in the garden as well! It was found in one of the hills near here! Then it was lunch time, we were very hungry after the drive! our salad today was cochayuyo (a seaweed) with some onion and coriander. It tasted a little like digüeñes! Then after lunch we decided to go to the beach! To get there we had to walk for about 40 minutes up and down the hill! The weather wasn't so nice so we didn't take our swimming suits... From up the hill we could see Ronca beach. The word ronca means "snore" and the beach is called like that because of the loud sound of its waves! They really do sound loud! Look at this! There was a giant root by the road! very impressive! I liked to walk and balance on the branches, they reminded me of the inside of an anthill, and we are the ants! Then we got to the beach we were walking to! Agua de las niñas beach, which means "water of the girls" in Spanish, what a funny name! I think its called like that because of the shallow depth of the ocean here, which makes it very safe for kids. There was a big rock full of holes everywhere! Do you know what might have caused them? Maybe the aliens! ...or just the erosion. We moved through the rocks... and I realized that we were standing on seaweed! And some baby mussels There was a big cave, but it looked a little creepy inside so we didn't want to go in! I wrote a little message on the sand Then I found manta ray eggs! There were lots of them everywhere! How cool! This is not just any rock... this used to be the stair in the entrance of a summerhouse before the tsunami of 1960! Queule was totally destroyed and later rebuilded nearby, which is where it is now. Then I met a nice small crab! He seemed friendly so I bent to be closer and talk with him... but he bit me!! And he wouldn't let go of me!! so I shouted for help and thankfully Fiona and Timothy came to rescue me!! They pulled me by the legs and I was free! pheww! How do I look as a sailor? Later we walked back home... it was a very nice day! I learned to be more careful with some animals, specially crabs! Love from Chile! Petunia |

Hi mummy!
Today the weather was so much better than yesterday! So as soon as I woke up I went to the deck to see the lovely view! isn't it nice? Then me and the others went down to the waterfront to see the fishing boats and the birds from closer. There were some fishermen on a boat feeding the seagulls and the pelicans, so they were flying over our heads with their fish guts in their peaks That one over there found a good spot to watch the fishermen and wait for a good meal to be thrown Back there is the main dock. Not all of the boats were in good conditions... there were some really old ones! There was a tsunami sign, in fact, there were many of them! In 2010 there was an earthquake and a tsunami in Chile, but nothing really bad happened here in Queule, just a few docks and boats were destroyed, thankfully the wave wasn't so big here! Here there's a video filmed from the summerhouse that day. We walked to a view point called El Tope. What a view!! Behind me is Los pinos island. The beach is called La herradura (the horseshoe) because of its shape and it's 9 kilometers long! That's Queule! see? It's a very small town. Nice and quiet This little dock, for example, was destroyed by the tsunami and rebuilt later. Can you guess the name of this rock? A clue, it's the king of the jungle ...king of the jungle with some trees on his back! Sheep and flowers, nice combination! It was a lovely day! Petunia |
Leslie Posted Oct 26, 2011, 6:11 am |
Hey mum, how are you?
Today was our last day in Queule! When we were done packing we were given some free time to do whatever we like, so we decided to go to a beach we hadn't been to before! It's called Cheuque. The waves here are big and noisy as you can see! well... you can only see they're big, but trust me, they're loud! There are giant rocks in the sea where no humans can reach. They make a perfect home for seagulls and other birds to nest Between all these rocks there was plenty of sea life from starfish and sea snails to some trapped fish from the last high tide! We spent some time playing with the shells, they made perfect sun hats! How do I look? I wish it had had two holes for my antennae though, they were a little bent! Ohh this was interesting! Do you know what it is?? It's cochayuyo! Yessss, the seaweed I ate the other day! Though... don't ask me what this one smelled like! I'm sure you don't want to know! And this is my last picture from Queule. Later we got in the car and came back to Temuco... It's quite late here now and I'm very tired, the others are sleeping, but I wanted to show you these pictures so I stayed up late just to do this update Now I'm going to bed! Good night! Petunia |
Leslie Posted Oct 29, 2011, 4:05 am |
Hey mum!
This time we had more free time in the centre than last time, so we went to the main square of the city. This is the most important monument in Temuco. It shows Mapuches with drums and spears and spanish conquerors with rifles and other guns Right next to the square is one of the tallest buildings of the city and the main church. Outside the church there were a lot of priests! I wonder what they were up to! Maybe they heard there are toyvoyagers in town and wanted to see us! See you mum! Kisses Petunia |
Leslie Posted Oct 29, 2011, 6:25 pm |

Look what came in the mail today! The very funny postcard about the weather that you sent! Leslie loved it and told me to thank you! Also, the stamp was so cool! Many kisses! Petunia |

Hey mum!
We went to spend the long weekend in Queule again! Do you remember Ronca beach? We walked through the hills for about 30 minutes until we got up here, it was very windy, but the view was beaaaautiful! The beach is very long and we walked next to the sea foam and the weaves How relaxing! See the hill behind me? That's where we got here from! Look at this poor tree! I told you it's windy here, didn't I? There was a fire here some years ago... but as you can see nature is recovering nicely Then we saw the foggy sunset and walked back home Love from this side of the world! Petunia |

Hi mum!
We decided to go eat our halloween treats to some special place! We walked a bit through the waterfront... ...and then through the hills, and look at that! A trumbril just passed next to us! ...and then we got there! Bye! Petunia |

Hello!
Today I visited the most important hill in Temuco, Ñielol hill. Some people say that Ñielol hill is an extinct volcano I hope it isn't, because I would not like to see it active since it's right next to the city! We went up (by car - we were feeling a little lazy) to the main viewpoint from where we could see a big part of Temuco! A little close there were this four very tall Mapuche totems! They are called "chemamulls" In the middle there is a "canelo" tree, a sacred tree for Mapuche people. Near there was a poor fallen one, he was too old and was kind of rotten Then we moved to a lower viewpoint from where we could see a little more of the city to the west. Do you see the closest roof? That's a small natural museum In the museum there was an embalmed condor! It is the national bird of Chile and also the largest flying bird in the world!! It has a wingspan of about 3.2 m (10.5 ft) and can live up to 100 years! What an amazing bird! This is a south american rodent called Coipo, it's like a mix between a beaver and a rat, a giant rat Cool teeth! This is a map of the 9th region of Chile, "La Araucanía" which where I am now. I learned that just in La Araucanía there are 7 volcanoes! And in Chile, more than 2,900!!! which is the 15% of all the volcanoes in the world Here I am inside of a "piñón" which contains hundreds of seeds of Araucaria tree (monkey puzzle), the national tree of Chile I hope you're having a good time! See you mum! Your Petunia |

¡Hola mamá!
We came to Puerto Montt once again but for a very short time and even though Leslie didn't have much free time to take us out, we managed to go on a little tour through the waterfront from the centre to the famous Angelmó port The sea breeze felt lovely on my face! Puerto Montt! This is Angelmó, an international port where turists from all over the world come to taste typical chilean sea food and buy souvenirs in the big craft market. In the restaurant galleries and could see panoramic views of the harbour There was a friendly sea lion posing and swimming around for me!! There were some very old looking fishing boats! Later we visited the big craft market that's right there in the harbour I'd like to have one of these beanies of my size I wonder how would I look? These two guys weren't so handsome but they were friendly enough to let me take a photo with them! These jewels are made of a rare semi precious stone called Lapislazuli that is only found in Chile and Afghanistan This nice couple borrowed me a woollen beanie How do I look?? Late at night we went up to a viewpoint to see the light of the city! Very nice! ...And the next day we came back to Temuco See you mum! Bye bye! |
Leslie Posted Dec 7, 2011, 10:13 pm |
Hi mum! I know it's been a long time... sorry about that! We were on a trip, a very nice trip! But you'll see photos of that later, now I want to show you a trip we made to the Andes mountain range and a small town called Lonquimay the other day
On the drive we stopped more than a few times to admire the beautiful landscapes by the road, so we took quite long to get to the mountain range But that's what trips are for, aren't they? This bridge is very very old! But don't worry, I didn't cross it! I'm standing here on a new bridge built next to the old one Leslie kept telling me not to get my head out the car window, but I like to feel the wind on my face, so when she wasn't looking..... Then we did an official stop to get a -not naughty- photo with these beautiful mountains on the background Look mum! A suspension bridge! And I was brave enough to cross it! Aren't you proud?? It moved a lot and it was somewhat scary, but I'm sure it wasn't me the one who moved it the most! After all I'm quite fit and my weight isn't enough to move such a thing! I think it was Leslie who did little earthquakes in every step This is beautiful waterfall is called "princess' waterfall" I think it's amazing how so much water falls and falls and doesn't run out! I would like to swim here, but the water was really freezing! ...Another river... As you can see there are a lot of rivers coming from the mountain range to the ocean in this zone... a lot. There were thousands of lupines by the road! Some were pink, purple, yellow and even blue! Here we started going up the Andes mountain range! Even though it's spring, up here it still seemed like winter! The view was amazing! And I should mention as well that it was rather freezing! We kept going up and up until we found snow! Snow in spring! So we went to play!! But just for a short time... none of us wanted to catch a cold! Everytime Leslie stopped to take pictures we would run back to the snow We found what looked like a baby Araucaria and went running to climb it, but Leslie said that this one must be about 50 years old or more! So I guess these ones must be about a thousand years old! After crossing a part of the mountain range we got to Lonquimay! There was nothing interesting as it a small town, but in the main square I found these two nice sculptures of Mapuche people We were very close to the border with Argentina! These signs say Argentina to the left and Chile to the right! I would have liked to turn left and take a sneak peek in Argentina, but for that we would have to cross the entire Andes mountain range... so we just turned right and started returning home. On the road back to Temuco we crossed the longest tunnel in South America! Túnel las Raices - The Roots Tunnel. It's 4,527 meters long! There was a moment when we could see nothing at all! The entrance had already dissapeared and we still couldn't see the end! It was a very nice day! Hope you are enjoying the snow as I did! Yesterday when we came back from out trip, we found these beautiful beautiful postcards! Leslie absolutely loved this one and told me to say a thousand thank yous! And the cork postcard is amazing! We had never seen something like that! Thank you so much! Have a nice day mum! From the sunny Chile, Petunia |
Leslie Posted Dec 14, 2011, 2:23 pm |
Hola äiti!
Days here have been sunny and the temperatures raising quite fast, bordering the 30ºC these last days. I hope you are not freezing yourself back at home mum! I would like to send you some chilean warmth if I could! On one of those very rare cloudy days we went to a small town called Puerto Domínguez on the shore of Lake Budi, the only salt water lake in South America! There were big sculptures of mapuche people, like this guy riding a horse... ...or this warrior with a spear (who, for obvious reasons, I would not like to have as an enemy!) Back there, behind the big fisherman, you can see the lake! This is it! Lake Budi, the only salt water lake in South America There was a lovely family of black necked swans swimming around! They had 7 babies, but most of them were resting under their parents' warm wings A little later we went up to a small cemetery with a nice view to the lake Many many old and not so old tombs had one of Leslie's lastnames written, she told me it is because she's descendant of the Spanish guys who came to conquer this area back in the colonial times Now the sun is shining outside so me and the others are going to go out to play See you! Hello mum! How's it going in Portugal?
Today we went to the main craftmarket of Temuco to see some Mapuche handicrafts. There were many strange musical instruments, clothes and souvenirs... I liked these "kultrún", mapuche drums These are "trapelakuchas", jewel pieces made of silver worn only by mapuche women who have important ranges in their community. They are very heavy! Then we went to a shopping centre and saw a magnificent giant christmas tree! The whole place had christmas decoration and they were playing christmas carols, it was a lovely atmosphere! When we came back home we sat in front of the christmas tree to admire the lights listening to christmas carols It's really nice! I hope you're having a wonderful christmas season mum! Hugs, Petunia |

Hohoho!
Today we were at home doing nothing productive... Chrissi and Sweet Mimi were reading a book while Fiona, Bobi and I were folding origami. I was folding a frog for you mum! ...When we heard someone coming! It was Pato wearing a Santa costume and bringing something! It was a christmas tree and a bag of presents! But he didn't bring any decoration for the tree... so I thought of something... Chrissi, Fiona and I went to the big tree to stea... I mean borrow some. I climbed up some presents and got to the lower branches where I found some fantastic little bells! I gave them to Chrissi and Chrissi to Fiona... When we had enough for our tree we walked back, trying not to leave evidence behind! The others were certainly happy to see our load! We hung the decorations on the tree while Pato was singing christmas carols to cheer us When we were done, we added just a little details. Fiona hung a bell on the wall, Leslie gave us a little manger to place under the tree, and Chrissi found a Santa figure that Zandy sent us! And here it is!! Our own christmas tree! I can't wait until christmas eve! Many kisses! Petunia |

Hohoho! Merry Christmas from a 30ºC christmas day!
On Christmas eve, in the afternoon we had a lovely dinner with the family, the sun was still shining outside as you can see, since it's one of the longest days in the year! Then, when we were done eating, we went to check our tree to see if Santa had passed, and yes! There were presents under our tree! We euphorically opened them...! There were candies and chocolate for everyone! And we enjoyed them until we could eat no more! I hope you had a beautiful christmas too mum! Many hugs! Petunia |

Hello hello! Happy new year!
We came to celebrate to the beautiful fishing village of Queule once again On the evening of the 31st we made a BBQ with longanizas But I was more into the peas and tomatoes At midnight it was time for "3... 2... 1...!!" As you can see we had a very good time and we stayed up late in the deck watching little fireworks and people playing with sparklers. Our neighbors had good loud music, so we also danced a little The next day when we woke up (which wasn't precisely early...) the sun was shining and the sky was all blue so Pato and I went to the valcony to see the nice view and breathe some fresh sea breeze The plants in the garden were green and nice, ideal for taking a little nap between their leaves Later after lunch we walked to one of the beaches nearby, well, not so near, about 40 minutes walking up and down the hills But I have no problem with walking, it's good excersise to prepare my body for the beach season In the beach I found this little dunes, which looked like ruins from an old civilization! They inspired us all to build a sand castle and play! Mimi, Chrissi and I were the trapped ladies locked by a monster while brave Bobi and Fiona came to rescue us crossing the dangerous suspension bridge! And later we walked back home... And that was it, a very nice day! I wish you a very happy 2012 mum! And as they say in spanish... FELÍZ AÑO NUEVO! Bye bye! |

Hello mum and dear audience!
We started a journey to northern lands We slept on a bus for 8 hours and woke up in Santiago, the capital of Chile! But we didn't see anything there because we got off the bus and inmediately got into another one to keep going north Another 7 hours north! The hills near Santiago have different vegetation than back south in Temuco... it starts getting more desertic, there is less vegetation here and you can even see cactus on the hills! Then, after about 4 hours on the second bus we started seeing the sea! The bus made a stop to stretch everyone's legs in a little Town called Los Vilos. There was literally nothing to see there but one single cactus, so Leslie, desperate to get me good photos, made me sit on it and pose!!! With my butt full of little red dots we went back to the bus and it started moving again... By the road there was an enormous eolic park with thousands of giantic eolic generators spinning, some fast, some slow. They were really nice to watch! And after a total of 15 hours on buses, we got to La Serena! Mum, don't surprised if you find my butt a little flat when I come back home... This is why. But traveling is never a pain, so as soon as we got there we left our baggage in the hostal and started walking a long long street that leads to the bech There were many monuments along, but I specially found this one interesting, they are 2 condors (the national bird, remember?) hunting a poor rabbit! I hope Sweet Mimi didn't see it This is the guy whom the street is named after, Francisco de Aguirre avenue. Then there were no more sculptures but road, just many blocks of road to the beach... surrounded by nice palm trees And then, finally, after walking about 18 blocks we got to the beach! we were starting to feel tired but as soon as we saw the sea, it took all our tiredness away! The first thing you see when you get to the beach is a nice lighthouse which is the most known icon of La Serena We stayed here the whole afternoon relaxing after so much traveling and walking... You'll see more La Serena soon mum, and so will I See you!! Petunia |

Hello hello mum and everybody else!
Another sunny day here in La Serena! In fact most of the days are sunny here and fantastically it only rains a few days a year! In the morning ("morning" in holidays never means earlier than 9 am here ...) we went walking to the centre, wich is just a few block away from our hostal and we found this beautiful church called Santo Domingo which was built in the year 1700 and something... It has a very beautiful dome, doesn't it?! Inside it was cold and they had nice music playing which gave a nice and calm feeling Outside the church there was a garden with beautiful flowers! ...I always find it hard to repress my curious-bug instinct to taste all flowers! Just across the street we found the main square, it's rather small but nice, and it was under some reparations, you can see white fences back there... There was a tree of trumpet flowers (floripondio) and I, as a good curious bug, wanted to try it too... But as I was getting to it Leslie pulled be back from my wings and told me not to! She said they have very very stong drug effects and can be easily deadly when boiled as tea, so we both agreed it was best to avoid tasting it Next to the square there was this big cathedral, Catedral de la Serena. It was built around the 1800s and it's the biggest and main cathedral of the city. ...We went in, and were lucky to find it almost empty because there was a big "no photos" sign I didn't mean to be disrespectful but such a nice construction must be photographed, right? Next to us there was another tourist with his camera under his jacket, taking photos whenever he thought no one was looking! of course he never imagined there was a small toyvoyager bug watching him from between the big pillars! haha! In the walls there were many images of saints and other religious people who, to be honest, I don't know who they are... But I did recognize this lady here as Virgin Mary of course She had the most decorated picture of the whole cathedral. Then we went out to the street again... Haven't I told you mum that in La Serena most of the constructions keep a colonial style? In the centre, for example, they can't build anything bigger than 4 floors height, and most of the contructions have tile roofs Anyway, we were walking in the street and found quite a nice building, but it belonged to some court or something like that so we were just trying to sneak near the door, but a nice guard found us and invited us inside to take photos! Inside the building there was a beautiful patio! Then out in the street again we found this cool tile bench where we sat to rest for a while I was distracted looking around and talking to the others when Leslie got us all into a cab... ...And somehow we ended up in a little gym watching an Easter Island dance! Which was a little like this Now I need to go to bed, I'm really tired... using my last energy to upload these photos for you mum Bye bye! |
Leslie Posted Jan 26, 2012, 6:48 pm |
Hi mum! how are you??
Today we went to visit the japanese garden of La Serena! We were so lucky... when we arrived there was no one but us! So no weird looks or staring people who always seem surpsised to see toyvoyagers running around the place I mean, no one but us and some animals The first birds I saw were these black necked swans and one just black. Then we all climbed this sculpture, which looked like a building with toyvoyager-sized flats! Nice view from up here aye! In the ponds there were many "carpa koi" fishes swimming around... And there was a friendly cormorant resting peacefully I liked this very much as a house! Can you get me one like this mum?? Chrissi was also looking for a good house design to ask her mum for! We both agreed that this was perfect And some culture, in the end. I really liked the place and all the beautiful constructions! See you soon mum! Bye |

Hi dear mum! I heard you are back at home now, it's nice to know you're there to welcome me if I ever decide to go back home but I'm having so much fun here and Leslie told us about some plans for the next weeks so I'm really not thinking about going back yet!
Hope you don't miss me too much! The photos you're going to see now are from when went to Coquimbo, a city next to La Serena, literally next to it, you can see how close they are in the maps. First we walked through the coast where all the fishing boats were... back there you can see the desertic hills! Then we went up to the highest point in the city, where there is the Third Millenium Cross, a giant monuent - view point It was inagurated by John Paul II in 2000 Here it is! Do you see the little windows in the "arms" of the cross?? Well that is the viewpoint! We went up by an elevator... And this is the wonderful view from up there!! Back there you can also see La Serena You can see the city and the gulf... And there's a privileged view to the ocean! Up there there were sculptures of all the popes that have existed to far... This is John Paul II, but I think they didn't quite get his face... do you think it looks like him? Under the cross there was a small cathedral and a religious museum but we weren't allowed to take pictures inside grrr... I saw some of John Paul's belongings, like clothes, chairs and otehr things... And I saw Michelangelo's La Pietà! And this I was allowed to take a photo with! After the Cross, we went to a fortress used to fight the pirates back in the day! Look mum! A cactus with a flower!! There were strange rocks around the place... very beautiful! What a great cannion! I bet it sounded really loud! I hope the winter isn't to harsh there for you! I wish I could send you some of the chilean heat in a bottle Love, Petunia |

Hello mum!
I know it's been a long time since I wrote here, that's because we were on a trip, a very nice trip, but you'll see photos of that later Now I'm going to show you photos of the day we went to the Elqui Valley (valle del elqui). It is the place with the clearest sky in the world! That's why there are many obstervatories around these hills Can you believe under this dam there is a whole town!?? One day in 1996 the inhabitants of Gualliguaica town were told they had to leave their houses, and the next day their whole town was under water! It was rebuilt nearby but there are still people sad about it, specially old people who lived all their lives in their original town... After about one hour or so we got to the first and biggest city in the valley, Vicuña This is the main church right by the main square. And this is the old city hall used around 1800 by the mayor and other politicians Now the main room is a museum where you can see pictures of the important guys who used to attend meetings there. I wonder how was this place when they were alive? how were their lives...? I bet they were very different to the traveler life I know so far I believe this building is on one of the stamps on the postcards I've sent you In the museum there was an old newspaper called "The voice of Elqui". I'm thankful of living in a time when books and magazines have colorful drawings Then we went to take another bus to go deeper into the valley In the bus terminal there was a nice pictorial map of the valley. In Vicuña you can see the city hall and a face, that's Gabriela Mistral, a Novel winning chilean poet who lived here although she was born in another town of the valley... See how much I've been learning?? You can also see some observatories there and the town we are going to is Pisco Elqui, can you find it in the map? As we went further into the valley it became nicer and nicer! The mountanis were bigger and the fields greener! Mum, I'm in the place with the clearest sky in the world!! - Astronomers: envy me! And we got to Pisco Elqui! Even though there wasn't much to see there it was a nice place, very in touch with nature... small streets, small houses, many of them made of clay! This is the main church. Then we went to have lunch to a nice open air restaurant, it was very late for lunch, but when we are traveling we use to forget about eating until we suddenly realize we are starving! hehe There's so much to see that one doesn't really care about trivial stuff like that, right? And guess what ... Leslie did it again! She said her excuse this time was the funny name of this cactus... although I think that's a pretty lame excuse! One of these days I'll put a cactus branch on her seat... let's see if she likes it! Anyway, this is called "mother in law's cushion" (cojín de la suegra) I'm pretty sure that name was made by a mean man! Later, before we went back to La Serena we bought some yummy jam of strange flavors like beetrot, onion, carrot with peanut, milk with cinamon and nuts, and some others I can't remember... Then we took the bus back to La Serena I loved the valley! did you like it? I'll write again soon! Bye! PS: my bum still hurts |

Hi mum! Mitä kuuluu?
Our days in La Serena came to end, but before we left I climbed a tree to pack some cherries for our 15 hour trip There were plenty of them in our hostel backyard! There were some birds standing on the higher branches staring at me with a face of "hey! don't steal our fruits!" but I just ignored them and kept picking But we did not stay in Temuco, we came to Queule right away to navigate! The boat had a wonderful name! And after hours rowing through the river and the sea we were hungry so went to have our meal. At home they were waiting for us with some yummy jam of a rare fruit called goldenberry And here's the goldenberry itself! Kisses from your sailor bug Petunia |

There are so many carnivals going on around the world and here we have nothing! It's unfair! ...so we decided to do something about it... Our own carnival!!
We weren't quite sure wether to do it the brazilian way, or more venetian... so we decided to do a mix, or own carnival style This is what I gathered for a costume, how do I look? I know it's not as fancy as the ones that the samba dancers wear in Rio, or the elegant costumes from Venice, but it'll do for now Then we all gathered on our colorful costumes to let the party begin! We lit some candles and Ducky, who was wearing a more tropical style, started to play some music so we all started to dance! Then Chrissi took the guitar and it was my turn to dance with Pato, who by the way had chosen a very venetian style and was wearing a wonderful costume! Here you can see we weren't quite sure about what decoration to use... so we agreed some dices, candles and a cauldron would do Then I danced with Ducky, this time the music was slower. Our carnival was very variated! It was a lot of fun! and Chrissi did a great job with the guitar! Our carnival was awesome! At the very level of Venice and Brazil I dare to say See you mum I'm having a lot of fun here! Bye bye! |

Hi mum!
If you thought our 15 hour trip from Temuco to La Serena was long... wait till you hear this -> After more than 50 hours traveling, we got to the highest city in the world, Potosí! And, do you know where is that? ... in Bolivia! Here we are outside the customs office in the middle of the andean plateau at 3.695 m.a.s.l waiting for our turn... At this height you can already feel the lack of oxygen and it was cold and windy but we were all very happy to be there! After we crossed the border we kept going through the plateau... There's an unbelievable amount of volcanoes up there!! I had never seen so many and so close to eachother! For hours I saw landscapes like this... And later for some more hours, like this... We kept going higher and higher all the time! And after many many hours, we arrived to Potosí! the highest city in the world at 4060 m.a.s.l! As soon as we got to our hotel we dropped our baggage and went out running to explore! Of course, we only run a few meters and realized how much oxygen we were missing and how super tired and extremely exhausted we were feeling, so we just walked from that moment on, which is somewhat awkward for us who are all used to be running and jumping around I learned new things, so I want to teach them to you The first thing we saw was this old church called "Nuestra Señora de la Merced" It was built in 1555 when the spanish conquered Bolivia and forced the natives to build churches for a God they didn't even believe in... A one block forward towards the centre we found the Omiste theatre And just a few steps away, the main cathedral of the city! This is one of the most modern churches of the city, built in the 1800s. See? I told you I've been learning! The city centre and surrounding areas are overwhelmed by religious buildings! I learned that there are 36 beautiful churches along the city, all built in the conquest times, around the year 1500. This is the "compañía de Jesús" (jesus's company) tower. How beautiful! Look at all those details! And this is San Lorenzo church The natives were forced to build and build as slaves, and they were so angry to be building churches to God that they decided to add some of their beliefs' elements to the contrsuctions, even if it costed them their lives. Here you can see a sun and a moon in the corners, they represent the sun and moon deities that they worshipped. I admire how brave they were to add these details even if they knew the spanish would kill them for doing it! And later, when it was already dark we went to see the lights of the main cathedral, really beautiful isn't it! Tomorrow, city tour Stay tuned! Love from the highest city in the world! Your explorer, Petunia |
Leslie Posted Mar 7, 2012, 3:05 pm |
Hi mum!
Another day starts here in Potosí and the city awaits to be discovered! so here we go! The photos you're going to see now are from our walking city tour The first thing that caught my attention when we started walking were the very narrow streets! The tour guide lady told us it's because they were made for tumbrils in the past! Now it's difficult to drive cars through these streets!! Then we walked next to this big cathedral, but I can't remember its name It's very nice, isn't it!? We had to make a few stops every now and then to recover oxygen And we made a big stop at the post office Leslie kept talking about postcards and stamps but I was paying more attention to the old construction This is Santo Domingo church Then we came to this arch which is very famous, because in the past it was the limit between the aboringins' area and the spanish area. It's called "Arco de Cobija". And right there behind me you can see a "cholita" woman, an aborigin woman wearing what most of them wear Then we made a stop right at the other side of the arch in this viewpoint where we could see a part of the city... Hey! don't think we are lazy! walking at this height is very tiring! Back there is "cerro rico" (rich hill) that one day contained the mines with most silver in the world! But the tour guide told us it was all taken to Europe and the city was left very poor with no silver left... now they extract some other less important minerals from the hill... This city has a very sad history... Then we kept walking and went to Santa Terera church What a bell tower! ...And we passed next to another great building And then we went to eat lunch at a restaurant where they only serve typical food! The waiter said we wanted to surprise us, so we let him! The first surprise dish he brought us was this soup! It's called kalapurka and it has a hot volcanic rock inside!! Leslie filmed it so you can see it in action Here is the video! And the second dish we got was this! It's called wakazapato, which in the aborigin language means "cow's shoe" It's dry potatoe covered with cheese and some other things I never knew what they were But they were mostly all good And last but not least we went to see the most famous icon of Potosí, that rather ugly face behing me. This is the patio of the goverment palace and that face belongs to a guard that many years ago discovered some fraud going on with the city's money. Do you see how much I've learned mum! And here ended our tour What a day, mum! I'm very happy I got to visit this city, everything here is so different to Chile, and of course, to home! Many hugs and kisses for you! Your Petunia |

Hi mummy!
I know it's been a long time since I updated here... but it's all Leslie's fault! she keps saying she's busy with her studies and all sort of excuses to not help me! But today we hid her books and won't give them back until she helps us update! These photos are from the wonderful, glorious day we visited the biggest salt flat in the world! After our stay in Potosí we took a bus to the town of Uyuni, and the next day we took our so awaited tour! First they took us to the "train cemetery", a place in the middle of nowhere with many many abandoned old trains! ...And then... They took us to the Uyuni salt flat! The world's largest salt flat at 10,582 Km²! We were all so excited to be there! This place is so amazing... and salty We are all very lucky guys, aren't we? Look mum! It's all salt! This is how they extract the salt! First they make these cones and then load them on tracks. Then we had to say good bye to the salt flat, but when we were going back to the Uyuni town we passed through a very small town. The houses were all made of rocks and mud! This is so different to everything I had ever seen before, mum! And well, then we returned to Uyuni town and washed all the salt away It was a very amazing day!! Love, Your Petunia |
Leslie Posted Mar 22, 2012, 6:20 pm |
¡Hola querida mamá!
Guess what's this place! Did you guess? It's the border between Bolivia and Chile! And I'm standing right there in the middle, half in Bolivia and half in Chile Then back in Chile we entered the Atacama desert and started heading to a little town in the middle of it! For hours all we saw out the window was sand... Did you know mum that this is the driest desert in the world!?? Then when we were getting to the town, the landscape turned a bit different! This part is called "the salt mountain range" because that's all salt from when this was under the sea thousands of years ago! And this is "the dinosaurs valley" because the sand dunes looks like dinosaurs' backs! How amazing! And here I am! This is San Pedro de Atacama, the little town in the middle of the desert that I told you about! Believe it or not here I am in the centre of the town! All the houses are made of clay and the streets are mostly all like this! In this house lived Pedro de Valdivia, the founder of Chile around the year 1540! Behind me there is a sand board The house is now a shop where there were many lovely dolls to welcome us! And Fiona found some chilean relatives! She was so happy and so was I! Then we started hearing some music from not far away, so we started following it... and it took us to some dancers wearing carnival costumes!! This lovely girl wanted a photo with me. Our colours match very nicely! And she told me that there was a carnival about to start! Mum, we didn't even know about it and we got here on perfect time! I found some masks ready to be worn by the dancers! This one is really scary! The some louder music started and many dancers appeared on the street! It was the carnival of "la virgen de la Candelaria" And then they all started dancing! Look at these amazing costumes! wow! And how about these!! Later I talked to one of these dancers and he told me his costume weighs 50 kilos! and it represents the black slaves. After a while the dancers were all very tired, you can see it in their faces, and they were not jumping as much as when they first started... it was terribly hot that day and I was wearing tons of sunscreen! Mum, it was an amazing and unexpected day! Did you like the costumes? Love for you! Petunia |

Hi mummy!
Again, I must start apologizing for the long time that's been since I updated here for you... But I'll make it up by showing you some amazing photos Here you go: Here I am in the very middle of the Atacama desert! We took a very cool tour and they made us walk a lot under the hottest sun I've ever felt! But don't worry, I was wearing lots and lots of some powerful sunscreen On these walls you can see some layers that show the pass of time, that's very very interesting! We walked some meters and got to a high place where we could see the "death valley" Can you guess why it's called like that? I certainly would not like to be lost here... On the ground there were salt rocks, because all the desert was under sea millions of years ago! Then they took us in the tour van (which had cooled air, thank goodnes for that!) to another part of the desert, called "Moon Valley", why?, because it looks like the moon! There were some very strange formations on the rocks! Walking through the shadow felt very nice Then we crossed a cave! Mum! I'm in a cave in the Atacama desert! Could you possibly think of a more exotic place to be? Here you can see some white salt on the rocks, which are mostly made of petrified salt too... The tour guide said we were going to go watch the sun set soon, but first we had to visit two of the most famous spots of the desert! This is one! The Amphitheater! It's kinda obvious why it's called like that isn't it? And then we went to see the "Three Marys" They are called like that because they seem like three women praying... well... that's what they say, but to me they just look like fingers, or sausages Here they are! The tour guide told us that the left one was bigger, but some years ago a tourist climbed on it and broke it! Since then it's forbidden to touch them Then it was time to watch the sunset, so they took us to another part of the Moon Valley! ...The sun setting in the desert! It was really beautiful, all of us were so happy to be there enjoying the view together! What a day, mum! I'm so happy to have added the desert to my list of visited places! I wish you could see it with your own eyes too, it's really amazing! Many hugs and kisses! Love, Petunia |

Hi mum!
Again, I want to start by apologizing for the long time that's been since the last time I wrote to you... Life is very busy - Leslie says - but I don't think so... I see she just sits on her desk and opens her books... I dont see why she can't help me update instead of that! Meh... Remember our tour to the middle of the desert? Well, this is all the water we had to carry with us that day!! And this is me playing Pato's zampoña, which I borrowed for a while This day we moved to another city in the desert, Calama. But before taking the bus, we bought some supplies for the trip Some typical bolivian cereals! But we couldn't resist to open them before even going out of our hostel! They were yummy! When we were on our way to take the bus, we found this llama! She was so lovely, I couldn't resist petting her! And Fiona was very happy so meet another of her long lost chilean cousins Then we took our bus! Calama is about 2 hours away from San Pedro... two hours through the desert... not bad When we got to Calama we realized there was absolutely nothing to see there, it's a very borring city! so we decided to get out of the city and explore the desert around it! The first place we went to was this cross in the middle of nowhere! They told us this is the place where some bodies were dynamited back in the dictatorship around 1973 and 1990... what a sad story! Around it, people started making a pet cemetery! But many of them aren't buried very deep, so it doesn't smell so good! Then we went to one of the most exciting places you could imagine mum!! A Pucará!!! A pre-columbian fortification built in the 12th century! In the entrance I saw this miniature... And then we started exploring it! It's overwhelming to be in a place with such history as this! Look mum! I found a megaphone on a wall! Such little windows I could imagine the "atacameños" living here so long ago! Right next to the Pucará is Loa River, the longest river in Chile... It crosses the desert! Here you can see many rooms... There's a town near the pucará now, and this is their church Then we went to Inka Coya lagoon... It's a perfectly round lagoon with salt water and no bottom discovered so far!! There are many legends about it, and one says it's a way to hell! I wonder what's really down there... Then we went to a near town, a very small town called Chiu Chiu... what a nice name Even though it's a very small town, they have a great church! And it's very old too! The walls and floor are made of clay and the roof is made of cactus wood! And so is the fence What do you think about our day, mum?? Wasn't it wonderful! Many hugs and kisses! Petunia |
Leslie Posted Jun 10, 2012, 4:34 am |
Hi again mummy!
After being in Calama and visiting Chiu Chiu, we came to a city by the sea called Antofagasta, where the desert meets the ocean! The first thing we saw there were these ruins! The ruins of "Huanchaca". This is where, long ago, they processed the minerals coming from a Bolivian mine, which were brought all the way down by llamas! Believe me, mum, it is a long way through the andean plateau and the desert! Right in front of the ruins there was a museum of minerals and other stuff found in the ruins and around the area Look at this great rock mum! This is pyrite This is copper with plaster! And this is plaster with calcium carbonate, how beautiful it is! Then we moved on to the fossiles section! Exciting! If these impressed me........ .........imagine this! Hmmm I see dinosaurs left their track around here too And then we went to the Space section in the museum! As this is one of the places with the clearest sky in the world (I already visited the one with the clearest ) There are many observatories and astronomical projects around Wooooohooooo Wooooooo! They had a map showing which region of Chile we are in, this is called "2nd Region of Atacama" Then we left the museum and went to explore the city! Hmm... where have I seen this tye of architecture before? ...Could it be on Kirin's udates from Portugal? Then we came to the main square, it's quite nice! And there are lovely flowers to taste! Ahhh Beautiful! This is a great place to rest after walking under the hot hot sun And it's so full of colorful flowers! Mmm nice! In front of the square there was this church, but it was closed so we couldn't go in But it's ok, I was having great fun with the pidgeons! After catching our breath in the square, we went to see one of the most famous chilean icons! La Portada de Antofagasta! That giant rock behind me. This area of Chile has no flat shores but cliffs and they are very nice! Near the viewpoint where we saw La Portada, there was a small gallery where there was an exposition of underwater photography Look at that guy on the right picture! Isn't he exotic!? Here I learned that the area of Chile is 2,006,626 km² It's a long narrow country! After seeing the exposition we felt like our day was missing some sea Look at this scary abandoned house we found in the middle of nowhere!! I suppose it's decorated for children, but to me it just looks like out of a horror film! And here we are! The beach! Can you see how the beach mixes with the desert as one bg sandy thing? There were many great shells on the sand I found no pearl... But I did find one interesting orange shell And it looks nice as a hat, don't you think so? And finally, Fiona and I found a jellyfish! But don't worry mum, I didn't touch it That night we started going back to the south... more than 2000 km south! I hope you liked our trip as much as I did! Hugs, Your Petunia |

Hello Mommy,
I finally arrived in Germany. During my journey I was really excited who I will meet, but when I arrived nobody opened my envelope. After a few hours waiting in my envelope I opened it on my own. That wasn't easy! I had a look around...nobody there. But then I noticed that the sun was shining so bright, perfect to check the area around the house. Mommy, I found some flowers with MY name! And there were so many other beautiful flowers! I'm such a happy girl! The sun is shining and it is so warm. I was so happy that I flew around like crazy! I had to take a rest! Maybe when I come back to my hosts home there will be somebody finally there... Your happy Petunia |

Hello Mommy,
time for hiking! We walked wand walked wand walked... and finally arrived near a lake. Isn't it beautiful? But we couldn't stay here, we had to go on. Can you see the wind engine? This is where we want to go. Finally arrived! This wind engine is huge! And there are so many more! We had a wonderful view. Lots of forests. But far far away we could see the highest building of Leipzig! Can you see the little chimney at the horizon? Normally it's a really high chimney! But now it looks so small! While we were walking around and enjoying our view our host found some "Slippery Jack" mushrooms. When we were home she cooked the mushrooms for us! So yummy! Petunia |

Hey Mom,
I visited the famous tv tower "Fernsehturm". It was constructed between 1965 and 1969 and with its height of 368 meters, it is the tallest structure in Germany. There is a visitor platform and a revolving restaurant in the middle of the sphere. The tower is part of the World Federation of Great Towers (WFGT). Petunia |

Hey Mommy,
we were hard workers today! We helped our host in the garden. I dug a hole with a really big spade. Then we put some seeds of zinnia flowers in the hole. I closed the hole and GustavHH raked the terra. Now we hope the flowers will bloom next year. I think I fulfilled one of my life missions! Petunia |

Hello Mommy,
Alex left a bag of sweets for us on the table. We all were really excited about it! The sweets are called "Knusperflocken" (crunchy flakes). These are made of rye crispbread with milk chocolate. Alex gave all of us a plate and put one flake for each of us on it. Mmmmmhhhh... We all were munching the sweets so fast. It was so delicious! Your Petunia |

Hi Mom,
the sun was shining so we decided to go by car through the neighbor villages. Look how green the lawn is. And the trees are losing their leaves...that's autumn! |
MA_17 Posted Nov 2, 2012, 5:22 pm |
Hello Mommy,
we went back to the garden today. There we found some mushrooms! We picked them up with the spade as we had no knife. Then we found some more mushrooms and picked them up, too. Look how many mushrooms we found. We are not sure if these are eatable. No one of us was clench enough to try them. I think I fulfilled another life mission. Petunia |
MA_17 Posted Nov 2, 2012, 5:39 pm |
We went to the cinema to watch "Madagascar 3".
It was really interesting to watch other animals traveling around the world, like we do! Petunia |

Hello Mommy,
today I visited the most well-known landmark of Berlin and Germany, the Brandenburg Gate. From there I did a short walk to the German Bundestag which is located in the Reichstag Building. The centrepiece of the building is the generously glazed chamber that is crowned by the dome. A funnel with panes of mirror glass reflects the daylight from above into the chamber. Across from this building you can see the "Federal Chancellery"(Bundeskanzleramt). The inhabitants of Berlin call it "Waschmaschine" (washing machine). Your Petunia |

Hey Mommy,
this evening we arrived in Dresden, the capital city of the Free State of Saxony. It is situated in a valley on the River Elbe, near the Czech border. Behind me you can see the main railway station. We don't stay here for long so there's only this picture. Anyway I hope you like it. Petunia |
MA_17 Posted Nov 8, 2012, 7:24 pm |
Hello Mommy,
today it was windy and rainy, but we did a sightseeing trip to the Bastei. It is a spectacular rock formation towering 194 metres above the Elbe River in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Reaching a height of 305 metres above sea level, the jagged rocks of the Bastei were formed by water erosion over one million years ago. The Bastei has been a tourist attraction for over 200 years. Your Petunia |
MA_17 Posted Nov 11, 2012, 9:01 pm |
Hello Mommy,
another day without sun, but it didn't rain! We visited Königstein Fortress which is a hilltop fortress near Dresden. It is one of the largest hilltop fortifications in Europe and sits atop the table hill of the same name. The 9.5 hectare rock plateau rises 240 metres above the Elbe and has over 50 buildings, some over 400 years old, that bear witness to the military and civilian life in the fortress. The rampart run of the fortress is 1,800 metres long with walls up to 42 metres high and steep sandstone faces. In the centre of the site is a 152.5 metre deep well, which is the deepest in Saxony and second deepest well in Europe. The fortress was used as a state prison for centuries. We found an old gun! And we had a wonderful view of the river Elbe. Your Petunia |

Hey Mom,
today we got a package. We thought a new ToyVoyager arrived. We opened the envelope. Inside we found another envelope. We were so excited that we crawled into the second envelope to find out what or who arrived. It wasn't a new TV. But it was a package full of M&M sweets! These are some special Halloween candies which we got from somebody in the US. We tried them and yep, these are some of the most delicious sweets ever! Your sweet Petunia |

Hello Mommy,
we did a spooky sightseeing tour. In reality it looked more spooky than on the pictures. It's just 4.30pm and it is nearly dark outside! Berlin Cathedral is the colloquial name for the Evangelical Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church. It has never been a cathedral in the actual sense of that term since it has never been the seat of a bishop. This is the Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery), a gallery showing a collection of Neoclassical, Romantic, Biedermeier, Impressionist and early Modernist artwork, part of the Berlin National Gallery, which in turn is part of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. It is the original building of the National Gallery, whose holdings are now housed in several additional buildings. It is situated on Museum Island, a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site. As it is an island there's water around. The river Spree runs on both sides of the museums! Your Petunia |

Hello Mommy,
today Alex' private bodyguard Oops arrived on the back of a turtle! She told us her name is Cassiopeia. We gave her a warm welcome. She showed us her card and told us that Oops found her in front of our house. The postman let her down there and in case of so much fog she couldn't see anything. Oops helped her to find us! Petunia |

we did a short stop-over in a small village which is surrounded by lots of water! I just wanted to show you how foggy the world is. It would look more beautiful if the sun would shine. Petunia |

today we went to the park to see the first snow. While we were sitting on a bench we noticed someone starring at us. We had a closer look. Yep, someone was watching us! We went down to that guy. He told us his name is Alberto. He arrived from Finland and when he did a short stopover in the snow he froze on the ground! As we are nice guys we decided to take him home. He was allowed to sit on the back of Cassiopeia. Petunia |

Hello Mommy,
today I learnt how to successfully do a TimTam Slam. TimTam is a brand of chocolate biscuit currently manufactured in Australia. A TimTam is composed of two layers of chocolate malted biscuit, separated by a light chocolate cream filling, and coated in a thin layer of textured chocolate. The TimTam Slam is the practice of drinking a beverage through a TimTam. You need a TimTam and some coffee or hot chocolate. First you have to bite off one corner... Then you have to bite off the opposite corner... Now use the TimTam as a straw. In case of the hot drink the inside chocolate starts to melt. Stuff the entire TimTam in your mouth once you feel the hot beverage touch your tongue through the TimTam. You have to be fast in putting it in your mouth or else it may break off into your drink! My host had to help me holding the TimTam-straw. Mommy, this is so delicious! You have to try this at home! Petunia |

Hey Mommy,
Alex got a lovely Christmas card from his brother Mr. Casanova. Isn't it cute? Alex also got some Christmas cookies from his sister Peaches! This little kitty shared his cookies with us. These were delicious!!! Petunia |
MA_17 Posted Dec 24, 2012, 7:21 pm |
Hello Mommy,
we found some time to bake some cookies. First we had to read what we need... We needed some good butter first. We hope that 4g too much are not too bad. Then we added one egg. Yes, just one! We also added the flour. From all the ingredients we made a dough. It looks good. We made little balls and pushed a little hole in it. We had to fill the holes with marmelade! Then we put it into the oven. While the cookies were in the oven we used some more dough to make some other cookies. We rolled out the dough. Because we couldn't find a cookie cutter we used a glass to cut the dough. We put these cookies into the oven, too. When these were ready we put some marmelade on one cookie and added another one. These are delicious! And this is the result of the first cookies we made. The best cookies in town! Petunia |

Hey Mom,
it's getting dark really early the day. Anyway, I hope you like my pictures. The Humboldt University of Berlin is one of Berlin's oldest universities, founded in 1810 as the University of Berlin. This is the Central Station. It is the main railway station in Berlin. 1,800 trains call at the station per day and the daily number of passengers is estimated to be at 350,000! From here you can do non-stop travels to Amsterdam (the Netherlands), Novosibirsk (Russia) or Astana (Kazakhstan). Can you see the Christmas tree inside the station? This is the street where I'm living at the moment. It's in the center of Berlin. Your Petunia |

I'm wishing you a merry Christmas! Normaly everybody gets the presents on 24th December in Germany, except us! We had to wait until the next day. But then we dressed ourselves with some lovely hats and waited under the little Christmas tree. Then each one of us was allowed to pick the very own present from the tree! Look, we all got lovely scarfs from Santa! Petunia |

MA_17 Posted Jan 25, 2013, 6:42 pm |
Hello Mommy,
we are finally back to the capital! It was freezing outside, but Alex and I did a walk through the city. First we had a look to the river Spree. It is the main river of Berlin. It is approximately 400 kilometres (250 mi) in length. The water looks cold...so much ice! This building is the "Federal Chancellery". The inhabitants of Berlin call it "Waschmaschine" (washing machine). Here you can see the German Bundestag which is located in the Reichstag Building. The centrepiece of the building is the generously glazed chamber that is crowned by the dome. A funnel with panes of mirror glass reflects the daylight from above into the chamber. Here I'm standing behind the Brandenburg Gate, one of the most well-known landmarks of Berlin and Germany. This place where I'm is called "Platz des 18. März" (Square of March 18th). It shall remind of March 18th in 1848 and 1990. And this long street got a similar strange name. It's called "Strasse des 17. Juni" (Street of June 17th). At the end you can see the Victory Column (maybe). The Victory Column...what a beauty. It is a major tourist attraction to the city of Berlin. Berliners, with their fondness for giving nicknames to buildings, call the statue Goldelse, meaning something like "Golden Lizzy". Alex told me that it is one of the most beautiful sights when the sun is shining! Sadly we just had clouds. And I visited a field full of stones. It is the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as the Holocaust Memorial. It is a memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. It consists of a 19,000 square metres site covered with 2,711 concrete slabs or "stelae", arranged in a grid pattern on a sloping field. The stelae are 2.38 m long, 0.95 m wide and vary in height from 0.2 to 4.8 m. I look so tiny between these stones! Strange sight! Your Petunia |
MA_17 Posted Jan 26, 2013, 10:22 pm |
Moi äiti,
once again I did a walk through the city. It was colder than yesterday, but the sun was shining. Museum Island is the name of the northern half of an island in the Spree river in the central Mitte district. It is so called for the complex of five internationally significant museums, all part of the Berlin State Museums. The Bode Museum at the northern end of the Museum Island. Look, there's more ice on the water than yesterday! Petunia |

Alex is such a good host. Today he invited me to a tiny Japanese restaurant! There was just one free table left. The cook gave us the menu. It wasn't easy to read. But we found something to eat. These meals are so delicious! When we left the cook came to the door and said goodbye to us. Maybe we'll go there again. Petunia |
MA_17 Posted Feb 3, 2013, 9:00 pm |
Hei Mommy,
we went to a city called Dessau. It's situated on a floodplain where the Mulde flows into the Elbe. This causes yearly floods. The population is about 78,000 people. Because it was so cold outside Alex gave me a hat for our tour. We started our little tour in the city park. Here are 3 apartment buildings which are called "Y houses". When you have a look to the houses from the sky they look like the letter Y. It's funny! Alex and I met a nice little elephant near the park. And we found our little own castle. This is the City History Museum on the left and one of two shopping centers. It looks like an ufo I think. They have many churches like the Georgenkirche. It's directly next to the ufo. Here you can see the 3 towers which welcomes people arriving to the city from the east. The left is the remains of the City Castle (Johannbau), in the middle St. Mary's Church (Marienkirche) and on the right the townhall. I will tell you about these buildings later... First I have to show you one of their rivers. This is the river Mulde. It is a left tributary of the Elbe and 124 km in length. At the moment the river is a little bit too full. There's a little flood and lots of streams. But it's no problem for the ducks as you can see. Now back to the towers I showed you before. The City Castle (Johannbau) was built in 1341 from the ruins of an older castle. It was on fire in 1405 and 1467 and was rebuilt in the 16th century. Since 2005 it's a museum about the city history. St. Mary's Church was first a Catholic church and since 1534 it's a Protestant Church. Nowadays the church is used for concerts, theater and special exhibition. What a famous person... Leopold I, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau. He was a German prince of the House of Ascania and ruler of the principality of Anhalt-Dessau from 1693 to 1747. His nickname is "the Old Dessauer" and you can find this name everywhere in the whole city. And he's a relative of Dutch royal dynasty. The Townhall was built in 1910. The tower is 73 meters high and the highest tower in the whole city. Your Petunia |

Hey Mom,
it's Monday and we have to go to school. Ouh we are still so tired from last night! This is a new school, no chalk needed for the board. You write everything with your own fingers on the board. The teacher welcomed us. Then I had to write on my own. I also tried to draw myself. Then it was time to see the school. This is the Ferro-man, the mascot of the school. We also found a colorful fish. The libraby of the school. This is the perfect chair for home. Time to play... Then we went upstairs to the last floor. What a view. Petunia |

We took everything out of the envelope. Lots of yummy sweets, a lovely little mug from Portugal, a postcard and a little note: "Changed the envelope at the post office. Don't want to come home yet!" It was a note from Alex' sister Josie. Petunia |

It's Alex' first birthday so we celebrated. His bodyguard Oops joined us.
Alex got a lovely hat as a birthday gift. He will need it, it's cold outside. Then we had a party dinner. Some smaller cakes, one big cake for everyone and something to drink. I don't know what that drink is... The cake was so delicious! When we drunk our glasses everthing got funny. Alex started to get 2 heads...and then I can't remember.... Petunia |

Hello Mommy,
today Alex showed me where he was born one year ago. It is the famous Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival). It is one of the world's leading film festivals and most reputable media events. Founded in West Berlin in 1951 at the initiative of U.S. Film officer Oscar Martay, the festival has been celebrated annually in February since 1978. With around 300,000 tickets sold and 500,000 admissions it is considered the largest publicly attended film festival worldwide based on actual attendance rates. Up to 400 films are shown in several sections, representing a comprehensive array of the cinematic world. Around twenty films compete for the awards called the Golden and Silver Bears. Petunia |

Hey Mommy,
it's very cold outside. But we did a walk near the rivers. This is the place where one of the channels runs into the river Spree. It is the main river of Berlin and it is approximately 400 kilometres (250 mi) in length. This is a part of the city-freeway. Look at this crazy building. I think we should go upstairs! Wow, what a view from here... Petunia |

we went to cinema today! We watched a German movie called "Schlussmacher". I didn't understand so much, but it was funny! Petunia |
MA_17 Posted Feb 27, 2013, 10:28 pm |
Hey Mommy,
it snowed again. So we decided to do a little walk in one of Alex' hometowns. It is called Zschornewitz. What a difficult name! The inhabitants just write Z'witz and call it Zschorns (don't speak the Z!). It means something like "Black Village". This is the catholic church. It's really small and... pink! These buildings behind me were the houses for the workers called "Kolonie". It was included in the list of EXPO projects, undergoing widespread restorations in 1997-99. There's another church in this village. This one is an evangelical lutheran church and it looks really old. I found some parts of the old power station. Since 1995 it's a museum. The last 2 chimneys fell last spring. There's only one big left for the museum. They have a really beautiful school and schoolyard in this village, have a look! Your Petunia |

Snow snow snoooooooow!
We decided to go sleighing. Can you see us on the top of that special hill? Alex and I shared a sleigh. Ready? Whoooaaaa, really high! But…gooooo! Whoooohoooo we had so much speed! We couldn't stop at the end of the hill. So we fall down. No, we didn't hurt. Everything is fine. Then we decided to do some snow angels. Aren't these angels pretty?! After this funny day we were thirsty. Luckily we found a big icicle. Petunia |

Hey Mommy
We jumped into the car and went around a little bit. There's no snow left! Petunia |

Hey Mom,
today we went to a small city called Lutherstadt Wittenberg. We didn't have time for sightseeing, but the train station is awesome, too. Then we went by train to Berlin. The small villages where we stopped had some really funny & difficult names… Start: Wittenberg Zörnigall Bülzig Zahna Klebitz Blönsdorf Niedergörsdorf Jüterbog Luckenwalde Then it was too dark to take pictures. So I decided to sleep the rest of the time. Yours Petunia |

Hey Mummy,
finally the sun is shining every day. So we had the chance to explore the city. We went through a tunnel. I was a little bit afraid, but I didn't need to. We arrived at the trade fair ground. The tower is called "Funkturm". It is a transmitting tower in Berlin, built between 1924 and 1926 by Heinrich Straumer. It is nicknamed "der lange Lulatsch" ("the lanky lad" ) by the people in Berlin. The tower is built as one large steel framework construction, similar to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The 150 m high and approximately 600 metric ton radio tower was originally planned strictly as a transmitting tower, but later additions included a restaurant at a height of approximately 52 m, and observation deck at a height of approximately 125 m. Visitors reach the restaurant and the observation deck by an elevator which travels up to 6 meters per second. This is the "Automobile traffic and training road", better known as AVUS. It is a public road in Berlin. Opened in 1921, it is the oldest controlled-access highway in Europe. Until 1998 it was also used as a motor racing circuit. Luckily there was a bike passing by. So we jumped on it and felt the speed. Near that area we found a geocache! Alex brother Matti introduced that game to us. This is a part of the fair. Maybe I'm coming back next weekend. Look, I found my home flag: So many flags… Love you! Petunia |

Hello Mommy,
we enjoyed our sunny day while exploring the city. These are the railtracks for the S-Bahn (Berlin city train). Next to the railtracks we found a forest! Normally the city is flat, but have a look, here we found some hills! This white roof belongs to the "Waldbühne" which is a forest theatre. It was built in 1936 as part of the preparation for the Berlin Olympics. Seating for up to 25,000 spectators goes down to a depth of 30 metres (97 ft). Today, it is used as one of Europe's biggest concert venues. This is the Bell Tower of Berlin Olympic Stadium. It is a 77 metres high observation tower that was built in 1934. Love, Petunia |

Hey Mama,
once again we went to the cinema to watch a German movie. It's Kokowääh 2. I didn't understand so much, but there were many scenes where I had to laugh! Petunia |

Guten Tag Mutti, (hyvää päivää äiti)
the sun was shining today so we did another little sightseeing walk. This is the Moltke Bridge, which was completed in 1891 and is named after Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke the Elder (1800–1891), chief of staff of the Prussian Army for thirty years. Here you can see the Haus der Kulturen der Welt ("House of the Cultures of the World" ). It is Germany's national centre for contemporary non-European art. It presents art exhibitions, theater and dance performances, concerts, author readings, films and academic conferences on non-European Visual Art and culture. This building is a gift from the United States, designed in 1957. John F. Kennedy spoke here during his June 1963 visit to West Berlin. To Berliners it is also known as the Schwangere Auster ("pregnant oyster" ). This freestanding tower behind me is called "Carillon". It is built face to face with the Reichstag building and next to the house of the Cultures of the World. Most of the tourists don't see it, but I did. It is a large, manually played concert instrument, comprising 68 bells weighing a total of 48 metric tonnes (almost 106,000 lbs.) connected to a keyboard spanning 5½ fully chromatic octaves; the largest bell weighs 7.8 tonnes (almost 17,200 lbs.). It is one of the largest instruments of its kind in Europe and approximately the fourth largest (by number of bells) in the world. I enjoyed the view over the river Spree and the Federal Chancellery. Then we found some more geocaches. It was a really nice day! Love you Mommy! Petunia |

Hello Mommy,
once again a ride by train. This time we got our own seat! Behind me you can see our travel schedule. We started at Berlin main station. While waiting for the train to leave we had some fun in front of the camera. Then we left. Look, that's still Berlin. Berlin-South We are fast! We also saw some other trains. One of them offered Service. I told Alex that the forest looks a little bit like home. We were also searching for some wolves. We heard there are lots of these animals around. And believe it or not... we saw one!!! We were really excited! Then we changed the train and went one floor up. But we didn't have time for pictures as we had to leave the train just a few minutes later. Your beloved Petunia |

Mommy, Mommy, Mooooommyyyyyyy!!!
You can't imagine what happened! Me and Alex did a trip around the world in just one day! We started in Turkey. The people there were so nice and gave us lots of presents! Our next stop was Georgia. The countryside looks very different than home. Interesting. Then we used an old beautiful train to travel a little bit more... America! Here we go! First stop: East cost - NEW YORK City Big jump from NY to the desert. Second stop: Las Vegas, Nevada Then it was just a short trip to our third stop: California! We stayed in the south and visited Texas. Do you know where this is? Yes, these are the Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Look, lots of skyscrapers... Chicago, Illinois. Back to Europe... This is Greece. They have really tiny olive trees! Just a short stop over in Asia. We visited Iraq. Did you ever hear of Azerbaijan? Back to Germany! Cologne From here it is not so far to the Netherlands. We were so hungry after thousands of miles we traveled. So we went back to Berlin. Alex knew where to get a good meal. And the journey goes on! This is handmade porcelain from Meissen/Saxony (Germany). We decided to travel to London where we met the wax figure of Barack Obama. From there it was not so far to the Channel Islands. Hey, I know these guys!!! Pikku-Myy & Muumipeikko. I told them that I'm from Finland, too. And I told them about my journeys, in Finnish of course! They were really excited! Then I got a Moomin-hug! This is something very special! Action time in Finland. Then I showed Alex my neighbor countries Sweden and Norway. Lots of big fjords in Norway. This is the Villa Villekulla of Pippi Longstocking in Sweden. Colorful! Typical Swedish guys! They wanted to join our journey, but their boss told them no. Back to the heat...Africa! We were a little bit afraid. This is an interesting area! United Arab Emirates. Back to Africa...Egypt! This pharaoh is huge! Korea looks interesting! From there we went to Taiwan. Next stop: Hong Kong Some more Asian countries: Indonesia. And Malaysia! And this is the capital of Thailand: Bangkok. This is a tiny country: Macau, a special administrative region. Formula 1 will take part there. At the end of our big world travel we visited a Chinese festival with some colorful dragons. When we were back "home" we were totally tired, just went to bed and fall asleep. I didn't have time to unpack my souvenirs! Your little globetrotter Petunia |

Hello Mommy,
now I'm leaving Germany! Alex (and his bodyguard Oops) was a bit sad. He cuddled me. I like that tiny dude! Than something awesome happened. Crawfish came to say goodbye to me! After all what happened last year she decided to take a rest and fall into a deep hibernation. But now she woke up! She hugged me and told me to give a kiss to her sis Zoe when I'm back home. So I crawled into my envelope and left. Hope to meet these guys again some day! Petunia |

Hey Mummy!
Today I assisted at a surgery! Our new guest Baerle (he was at hostmum´s twice) got a new star on his nose. Mr. Stanley asked me if I cuold help him with the anaesthetics. Certainly I said yes I pressed the pad with the narcotics on Baerle´s face. Immediately he fell asleep. Then Mr. Stanley started the surgery. he removed the old and broken star and replaced it by a new and shining star. I controlled Baerle´s breath, it was deep and constant. Thank god! After the surgery was finished we brought Baerle to his sickbed. I hope he´ll get well soon Your nurse Petunia |

Hey Mummy!
I was allowed to accompany hostmum to Essen. It´s a big city in the west of Germany, in the Ruhr district. The coal mine "Zollverein" is a world heritage so we visited it. In the visitor center was a model of the whole are to get orientation. Very comfortable for us I was very impressed by the head gear. It´s the symbol of this mine, so of course we had to pose in front of it We also visited the "Ruhrmuseum" in which you can see exponates from the area. I was deeply impressed of a rebuilt skeleton of a mammoth. They lived in this area long, long time ago! He, Mummy, do you like the steam train? I would have liked to go in, but the custodian of the museum said, my ticket doesn´t allow to go by steam train. So we only took a picture of me standing in front of it On our way back we passed the "Grillo-Theater", one of the oldest theaters in the Ruhr region. So, Mummy, soon we´ll start our holidays! I am very excited !Yours, Petunia |

Hey Mummy!
Greetings from Italy! We reached our holiday destination in Kaltern. At first we mad a short walk through the village. It´s a real small village and so I was astonished about the big houses! The weather was not so good and so we decided to go into the museum for viniculture. There were a lot of different grape-vines. We choose the right time to visit the museum. We were allowed to taste them all! Being on tuor is like in paradise See you soon, Petunia |

Hey Mummy!
Today we made a hiking trip to the runis of castle Hocheppan. We had to walk through a forest and in the half of the way there were little stone steeples. I put myself a new stone ontop. Then we continued our trip. When we reached the castle we looked about. I felt like being in the middle ages. After a meal we went back. Byebye, nice castle! |

Hey Mummy!
Another highlight in my holidays! See what happened... We made a trip to the botanical garden of "Schloss Trauttmannsdorf" near Meran. We expected to see some nice autumn colours, but the leaves were still green. But pretty, too! There is even a rice plantage in this garden, isn´t it crazy with the alps in the background? The empress of Austria, Sissi lived in this castle for a few years and so there is a statue of her sitting on a garden bench. We wnted to read in her book, but maybe it was to old and washed out by the rain of the decades... The garden was very pretty up to now. But what we saw then, was the greatest ever! There was a huge garden with dahlias in every colour! So unbeliveable! But it was not only alluring to look but even alluring to smell! And so thought even more insects, maybe all insects of south tyrol And so I fulfilled my life mission nr.4, I met other insects! I met a lot of busy bees. We tried to talk but they really had no time, they still had to work Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuummyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I am sooooooooooooooo happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Hello Mummy, today we made a girls day!
We accompanied hostmum to the market in Kaltern. There was a lot of leathern stuff, e.g. belts and handbags. I liked the clothes, too. I wanted to try a coat, but hostmum convinced me, that it was to big. So we bought no clothes. But something yummie! A glass of honey! After this ardous trip we were very hungry. Certainly we had a typical meal with wine. I can´t remenber what has happened next ...*hicks* |

Hey Mummy!
My finnish heart is beating faster! Today we made a trip to the lake! We took a walk through the wine yards and there it was: the Kalterer See. Unfortunately the bathing season is over, so we only had a look over the lake. It´s pretty small, but very nice. I hope you like my impressions! Hugs and kisses, Petunia |

Hello Mummy, here I am again!
Christmas is coming and so we are very busy here. We helped hostmum to prepare the presents for her colleagues. She decided to make pralines as every year. We started with a eggs liqueur cream. Cream, eggs liqueur and white chocolate has to be melted slowly. We had to stir, and to stir and to stir... But that wasn´t all. We also had to melt dark chocolate for the hearty molds. The chocolate came into the molds and when it was cooled, the cream could be filled in. Wow, it looks great! My first pralines! Later hostmum made a second type of pralines, with nougat. They are also very yummie, Mummy! Lots of Love, Petunia |

Hello Mummy!
To you have snow in Portugal? We have! In Lichtenfels today felt the first snow! We woke up in the morning and wanted to go out immediately, but hostmum tried to calm us. It was really, really cold! But we took a first look at the first snow. Fipsy and Mr. Stanley tried to measure the the snow, it was about 50cm long, 10 cm wide and 2 cm deep I didn´t say anything about this But we checked up if the two sleighs are comfortable for our TV group. Oh yes, they are! So we hope to get even more snow the next weeks! Have a great time! Petunia |

Hello Mummy, here I am again!
It seemed to me that I took a winter sleep, although there was already no snow in Germany. So today we made a trip to Bamberg, a city 40km away from Lichtenfels. To get some navigation we looked at a map made of bronze, which shows the whole city. We started our trip at the historic city hall, which stands in the middle of the river "Regnitz". Very crazy! After a few steps we reached the other side of the building. It´s very impressing with its baroque balkony at the front. Bamberg is full of wonderful views, our next topic was to look at the very nive houses near by the riverside. Because it´s so romantic, it is called "Little Venice" We also passed nice shop windows, it seemed that winter hasn´t passed up to now There were nut crackerbut also nice spring flowers inside After our trip through the city we got thirsty. So we chose a restaurant and had some wine Maybe I had a little bit too much of wine but I had a epiphany of Holy Kunigunde, the patron saint of Bamberg But she said that I am a very well educated insect and that I should keep on Toyvoyaging Love, Petunia |

Kukkuu!
I just popped in here to let everyone know that I'm in Finland with Henna and the other lunatics, since last time you heard from me I was in Lichtenfels. Well, next week I'll be in Portugal - as you see I'm a very migrating insect. There is tons of snow here, and today the temperature is 20 Celsius degrees below zero. Actually, as a Finnish insect, I should be hibernating somewhere under the snow and inside dry leaves, but I don't feel like it! There is so many things to see and experience in Finnish winter! Watch this little brook running in middle of all the ice and snow! Where is it hurrying? To toilet? Hmm? Can a river wet its bed? Why is this ice patterned in such odd way? This is a winter road on the ice of lake Sahajärvi, it is marked with spruce branches, so people know where it is safe to walk or drive. Sleep well under the ice, Sahajärvi! See you again next spring! I'll see you, people, next time in Portugal! Kisses, Petunia. |

Yesterday I said „Goodbye“ to Berta. I wish her a good journey to Portugal. Today we found this bananas. They look not delicious… But host-mom says they are right for a banana-cake! Well, so we make one! First I mix bananas with brown sugar and sour cream. Set aside. Then I stir butter, eggs, sugar, baking powder, wheat and rye flour. [/URL Stir both together. [URL=http://s1057.photobucket.com/user/toyvoyager2015/media/P1130079_zpsxed2lirv.jpg.html] Put the dough in bundt pan pan. After 45 minutes my banana cake is done. Yummy! Kiss, Petunia |
