Finally today was a sunny day! The spring in germany is this year very cold and grey.... So we made a little trip to a village called "Stammheim". There is a little museum with old aircraft and tanks. Unfortunately it was closed, but we saw this aircraft behind the fence. ![]() A beautiful timbered house. ![]() On easter the fontains will decorated with eastereggs. ![]() Then we drove to the river "Main". Hostmum said that we go to the other side, but there's no bridge... Look! I drove with a little ferry over the river! It was so cool! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I had a lot of fun! Kiss, Lavender |

Hi Mom
I arrived at Biggi's place. Yesterday we made a trip through the "Simonswälder Tal" which is a beautiful valley in the Black Forest. Lots of motorcyle riders love to drive there because of all the curves and the nice view. That's what I call a black forest! Fir trees make this forest looking dark and it must have been a frightfull place in former ages. ![]() ![]() ![]() Look at those old and typical farmhouses ![]() ![]() On this sign you can read whats the name of the three valleys and in which direction they are when you look around from this spot. ![]() View up the hill, some fields of grass, some birch trees, but mostly fir trees. ![]() Some group pictures of me and the TV-gang. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi Mom,
this weekend our host and her roommate invited us to join them while making strawberry marmelade. Look how many strawberries we had bought. ![]() They looked very delicious. First we washed them in a bowl of water. ![]() Then we cut them and took of the leafs. ![]() Later we put them in a cooking pot. And then put in special sugar. ![]() Just a few minutes boiling ![]() and the marmelade was ready to be put in jam jars. See how much jars we filled? ![]() ![]() We were allowed to taste a bit. Yummie! I'm looking forward to next breakfast. I wanna eat that much ![]() Hugs |

Hi,
since my host wasn't and still isn't in a good health condition, I couldn't post updates regularly. So this is about our trip to the Island Lindau in the Lake Bodensee. ![]() ![]() ![]() First view on the Lake Constanze (Bodensee) ![]() ![]() ![]() View on the monastery Birnau ![]() ![]() We stopped to take a break of driving and getting some fresh air. What a nice view on the lake and the surrounding area. ![]() and the monastery again ![]() a last group picture before getting back into the car. ![]() ![]() At Lindau was a exhibition of the famous painter Miró. Therefore a lot of merchandising is reminding of him. Like these flower tubs. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In a backyard we found this interesting statue ![]() We even found a big redwood tree. ![]() ![]() Some views on the pedestrian zone ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The old town hall with it's beautiful paintings built in 1422. ![]() The harbour guarded by the lighthouse and the lion, which stands for the bavarian kingdom. It was built 1856. ![]() |

this time we went to the "Knopfmacherfelsen" (Buttonmaker rock) with it's viewing point high above the river Donau. This point is named by a saga about a man who was a button maker. A ghost shall have guided him over the rock. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi Mom!
I arrived at my new destination in Southeast Minnesota, United States. Yes, I made it over the Atlantic Ocean! It was already dark when sannah found me in the mailbox yesterday, so I just caught a glimpse of the view of the river close to my new temp home at night. But today sannah took me to Downtown Rochester. Rochester is home of the world famous Mayo Clinic. All high rises downtown are somehow connected to this hospital. And of course the employees need a lot of parking space – this explaining this first view of downtown I had. But here I am already standing in the center of all Mayo Clinic Buildings with the Kahler Grand Hotel in the middle. Those two people stand for how the Mayo Clinic was founded 150 years ago: as a cooperation of the Sisters of St Francis (Third Order) and Dr. Mayo. But his two sons let the hospital grow. They invited me to sit with them. This picture really combines old and new: The Mayo Medical School with the modern buildings behind it – reflecting each other. This is the New Mayo Clinic – at least it was when built in 1928. Now it has the name of its architect, and is supposed to be the most beautiful of all high rises: the Plummer Building. More impressions will follow soon for sure and I am really looking forward to my adventures here! All the best to you, Lavender |

Mom, today I could not believe my eyes when I looked out of the window of our room!
It is so cold outside that the Zumbro River is partly covered with a thin layer of ice - that usually should not happen because there is warm waste water running into the river nearby ... The poor ducks really fight hard to stay warm ... |
sannah Posted Dec 7, 2013, 10:32 pm |
Hi there!
Rochester has changed a lot in November! It is much colder, but the sun still shows up from time to time. Like today, when we went for a walk around Silver Lake – a dammed up part of the Zumbro River within walking distance from sannah’s apartment. Here we already are at the lake: Due to the temperatures far below the freezing mark in the past days (and around it today), most of the lake is frozen, but not open to the public for skating (yet). This monument reminds of the dangers of not completely frozen lakes. When walking around the lake, I had an idea where the name SILVER lake comes from … Don’t you agree, Mom? The colors tend to make the whole area a little surreal with the metallic touch because of the evening sun which was reflecting on the ice. But know it is time to meet the inofficial owners of the lake – hello, Canada Geese! A lot of them stay in Rochester over the winter because Silver Lake never freezes completely because of waste water … sannah did not allow me to get closer on my own, she was afraid I might be bitten! But those three were close ... I had a last view back to the lake with its neat little stone bridges ... Beautiful, isn't it? That's all so far from here! Hope to hear from you soon, Mom! - Lavender |

Hi there!
While I have been told that the winter in Europe is very mild so far, Minnesota is currently experiencing a winter wonderland. A noticeable amount of snow fell over night and in the early morning hours and then the sun came out for a gorgeous winter day! A perfect day to take a walk! But watch out, there are lots of snow! The walkways haven’t been cleared, so it was really exhausting to walk. Luckily sannah carried me around all the time. All I had to do was to enjoy the surrounding! We were only a few steps away from a main street, but it was so silent and calm … Let’s call it the power of the snow! Between the brownish looking grass you would usually look on the Zumbro River, but now it is completely covered under ice and snow. The view is really nice, though, and yes – there is a large swing next to the river. A nice place to sit down, but maybe not in these conditions. Here the Cascade Creek meets the Zumbro River – but everything was covered under ice and snow again. What about you? Would you like to be part of winter wonderland or do you prefer milder weather? All the best, Lavender |

Hi there!
Sunday really pampered us with sunshine! Of course, it was still cold, and I was glad that sannah kept me warm during our walk. We wanted to get closer to the State Capitol Building. And aren’t those colors amazing, the blueblue sky and the white snow? From what we could see under the snow (which wasn’t much), there are a lot of veteran memorials in a park at the bottom of the capitol. This one honors the veterans of the Korean War. Getting even closer, I noticed the gold-leafed Quadriga on the roof. Did you know that the unsupported marble dome is the second largest in the world, after Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome? The statue on the right side remembers John Albert Johnson. He was the 16th Governor of Minnesota from 1905 until his death in 1909. And turning around, I discovered a nice view of downtown St. Paul from the stairs of the capitol. Afterwards, we continued our walk to the Cathedral of St. Paul along John Ireland Blvd. Unfortunately, we did not dare to get closer for two reasons: The ongoing construction work and the fact that we did not want to disturb mass since it was Sunday. We took a vitual tour instead. It was time for lunch then and afterwards sannah attended an opera (Macbeth by Verdi) with sannah-man. I was only allowed to listen from inside her purse … But nevertheless, I had a great day – winter and sunshine go together pretty well! All the best, Lavender |

Hi Mom! It still is pretty cold here in Rochester, but the sky is blue! Awesome! The Plummer Building looks best this way! Greetings, Lavender |
sannah Posted Feb 23, 2014, 5:43 pm |
Hi there! Rochester has recently been hit by a blizzard. And as if this would be bad enough, it got cold afterwards. So all the fluffy snow turned hard, making roads icy and impossible to pass. But it does look sooo beautiful, doesn't it? Just a few steps away from sannah's apartment is winter wonderland ... Still. As beautiful as this looks, nobody would mind a change of color to green ... While there is still lots and lots of snow and ice here, I heard on the news that Great Britain is suffering severe flooding. ![]() All the best, Lavender |
