Hello, I am the next escapee from my owners cupboard, following in Quentin Ducky's footsteps. A few of us lined up to be weighed to see who was the lightest, and I won! Although I have beans in, I am rather small :) You can see me below with the line-up of possible TVers.

To celebrate the news that I was the chosen one, I went to spread some toilet paper around (I stole it from the packet on the landing), as I have seen other Andrex puppies do ;)

Woop! Today was rather productive I feel. We heard that Mishuta was nearing his destination (Coco the bear has very good hearing and could hear the postman from several miles away). We had just enough time to organise a welcoming committee. Some artistic bears and Tiger helped to create a banner with colourful pens. All was going well, until that is, we heard a suspicious quack coming from near the door. Before we new it a bright yellow thing had thrown himself at our little crowd; It was Quackers, a duck on a mission to cause chaos. I had to have some serious words with Quackers to make sure he wouldn't cause any more drama. We were in a good mood what with all the excitement, so we let him stay.

The banner was finally ready and we all got into position for the arrival of the parcel. To be continued...

Continued from last update:

Tiger and I rescued Mishuta from the parcel. He was surprisingly small as my mentor had thought he was much bigger when she saw him in the photos online. Small is good though, it means we can travel easier. Mishuta was quite shy but seemed to like the banner, and afterwards we had a picture taken of just us three. BUT THEN, Quackers was up to mischief again! He dived into the bag of sweets that had come with Mishuta and I grabbed his foot.  Mishuta scuttled off in fear of all the noise, but luckily Coco was overlooking the proceedings and kept him safe. All the bears rushed over to see what was happening and I finally pulled Quackers out. As a prize my mentor let me have one of sweets, so I was chuffed  B)

Today I went on a trip with _Mishuta_ and Mirembe. Mirembe was particularly excited because it was her first time out in her new life. We went to see some animals, played on the kids play ground, and also went tree climbing! When we were walking back to the car I found a cute house so mum took a picture of me there while the others went ahead. We were tired by the end of the day but very happy :)

Hello mummy,

"Jaanipäev"(John's Night,Midsummer) is today here,we do some BBQ,we didn't celebrate it as big as some people do,but anyway something we did. It's 2nd biggest holidays after Christmas in Estonia.

Usually Estonians celebrate "Jaaniõhtu" on the eve of the Summer Solstice (June 23) with bonfires. On the islands of Saaremaa  and Hiiumaa, old fishing boats may be burnt in the large pyres set ablaze. On Jaaniõhtu, Estonians all around the country will gather with their families, or at larger events to celebrate this important day with singing and dancing, as Estonians have done for centuries. The celebrations that accompany Jaaniõhtu carry on usually through the night

We were not awake all night and we got even some rain,as it is "common " in that evening(night).

2 weeks ago Mari got rabbit and today he was first time outside and I was looking, together with other TVs what he is doing.

Today evening we went to see the event for what Rakvere is famous for.

About the festival
The Punk Song Festival is a symbiose of the traditional Estonian song festival with lot of choral singers and the punk rock. The idea came from Üllar Saaremäe, artistical director of Rakvere theater in the Summer of 2007 and next year, June 7, 2008 the Punk Song Festival in Rakvere became a reality. Then the punk anthem "Anarchy in the U.K" was the only non-Estonian punk song in the repertoire.

This time, June 11, 2011 the festival is more international. Along with Estonian punk we hear also songs in English, Finnish and Russian, arranged for the choir and symphony orchestra+rock band. This festival is the main event of European cultural capital 2011 in Rakvere.

The arranged punk is still punk (not tango, bossanova or something else), but it sounds another, interesting way. We hope you will enjoy!

Though Mari is not fan of punk songs, but she went because she likes to get part of big culture events : )

Hi mommy,

it was a really warm and sunny day, temperature was maybe 30 degrees !So really hot and we went to see Youth-Song and Dance festival 2011 in Tallinn, though we only saw songfestival :) It is really important event and Mari couldn't want to miss it !

It took place in open air, in the territory of Tallinn Song Festival Grounds.

It was almost a 6-hour long concert with different choirs and orchestras performing. The songs and music take the most powerful form when joint choirs start performing.

Song and Dance Celebration, the Estonian says. This is almost a sacred notion. It stands for the true birthday of Song and Dance, a great spiritual feast, a tradition not to be missed.

This is the festive reunion of an ancient folk, gathering from the cities as well as from the countryside;
small as a nation, but impressively large as a family.

Song and Dance Celebration is a true Estonian holiday, the Holy Day of the Heart;
which has been waited for, adorned for;
this is a brief moment of ecstatic togetherness, rising almost into the air in a mythical ship of joy and hope
a ship that has proved to be capable of carrying one nation over the most dangerous, most difficult rocks of time.

/Doris Kareva/

The Song Celebration tradition started in the middle of the 19th century and it has survived all of the twists and turns in Estonia’ s history.

and it still lasts and the next whole nation songfestival is in year 2014 :) The young songfestival means people till 26 years old.

Estonia and Song and Dance Celebration – these two belong together like Norway and skiing or England and the Oxford-Cambridge boat race.

I was proud to be there, around the people,Estonian flags,LOTS of people, singing and the feelings there..

Finally, I've arrived in Austria. Just in time for Christmas :-) Dragonfly had given me some sweets for my new hosts and they really liked them! I've already met TV Travel, who has stayed here since November. We ate some more sweets. I think I'll have an early night after my journey. Take care!

Hi mum,

Merry Christmas! In Austria, Christmas is celebrated on December 24. I had a wonderful day. In the morning, we decorated my hosts' Christmas tree. They have a cute nativity set and I also liked the small angel.

We had lunch with my host dad's family. After lunch I ate some biscuits. They also had a beautiful tree, and we sang a Christmas song.

And then we had dinner with my host mum's family. We had soup with Fritatten, which are more or less sliced pancakes. Afterwards, we could choose between fish and Schnitzel. Of course I wanted to eat a Schnitzel, the famous Austrian dish! I'm tired now but I'll upload some more photos soon (I also received a nice little Christmas present....) Lots of love and happy holidays, mum!

Hi mum,
Yesterday afternoon we went to the town centre of Klosterneuburg, which is a beautiful town near Vienna. From a parking lot, we got a quite nice view of the monastery church. The concrete construction spoiling the view is a by-pass (which naturally gave rise to disputes when it was built). We walked some older roads and discovered a so-called spy (now closed) which people used to observe the street without being seen (we read that on a nearby board). On the town square we walked past a bakery and it already sold pig-shaped sweets as New Year's presents.

Hi mum,
Welcome to 2012!! Our New Year's Eve was very nice. First we ate some fish-shaped biscuits (they taste like ladyfingers). If you want to have a lot of luck in the new year, you must eat them without using your hands...paws....whatever  ;) The fireworks were really beautiful. And we also poured lead. I'm not sure whether I've heard about that tradition before....?! We poured the molten lead into cold water and then tried to find out what the new shapes tell us about our 2012. But they just looked funny  ;) Happy new year, mum!

Hi mum,
This afternoon we had some time to visit some nice places in the city centre of Vienna. We went to the city hall. Unfortunately, we couldn't walk across the square because they were removing some stuff from the New Year's celebrations. But we still had a nice view of this marvellous building. We also went to the main building of the University of Vienna and walked through the entrance hall and the courtyard.
curious77

Posted Jan 2, 2012, 4:44 pm
...we also saw a theatre, and Café Landtmann - a very famous coffee house - as well as a beautiful church, Votivkirche. A bit later, we stopped at an incineration plant - a strange building to take a photo of? That's what I thought. But in this case, it isn't! It was designed by the famous artist Friedrich Hundertwasser. I'm not in the last picture because I wanted to show you a close-up. You can find more information about Hundertwasser here:

Even though the weather wasn't really nice, I enjoyed the afternoon!

Hi mum,
We had so much fun this afternoon! We played some games! We played the Simpsons edition of Cluedo. We had to find the murderer of Mr Burns. In the beginning it was not easy to draw conclusions but in the end I won, I found out that Smithers had killed Mr Burns at the house of the Simpsons.

Hi mum,
Yesterday afternoon we drove to a nice viewpoint where we could see all of Vienna and its surroundings. Curious77 told me the names of the bridges and some of the high buildings. We wanted to take some pictures on the other side of the church, too, but a strong wind came up and so I felt safer in her pocket

...on our way back to the city, we drove through a quaint quarter of Vienna which is famous for its many Heurigen, Austrian taverns. The Buschen, the bunch of twigs, tells you that a Heurigen is open. Curious77 thinks the Heurigen in the quarter of Grinzing are open all year round because they are famous among tourists. Other Heurigen open for some weeks each year and serve only homegrown wine. Should I try red or white wine first?  ;)

Hi mum,

Guess what?! We went to Madame Tussauds Vienna today! It was really cool to see so many famous persons - international and Austrian!
First we met two representatives of the former Austrian monarchy: Franz Josef and Sisi. We also saw Oskar Schindler. Then I took a look at a composition of Ludwig van Beethoven and spent some time on the couch of Sigmund Freud - not that I had any problems to talk about ;-)
curious77

Posted Jan 14, 2012, 2:09 pm
...we also saw the artist Hundertwasser (remember the incineration plant?) and the current Austrian President Heinz Fischer. Then we met some Austrian sports heroes, like Hermann Maier (also called Herminator) and former Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger. Next to some other pop stars, we saw Falco, the famous Austrian singer who died too young.
curious77

Posted Jan 14, 2012, 2:14 pm
...finally, I won't introduce these persons :-) another Austrian among them, who is not quite perfect but still has had an impressive life and career. It was a lot of fun to see the celebrities and interesting to learn something about Austrian history! Have a nice weekend, mum!

Hi mum,
We couldn't do much last week due to bad weather but Domino and I had fun at our hosts' home anyway. This afternoon we went to a very nice quarter of Vienna. We went to Museumsquartier, which houses several museums...I'm sure you can spot the museum of modern arts  ;) There are plastic couches in the yard in the warmer seasons and many people enjoy the sun between the museums. Just look at the strange lamp we discovered at a museum shop - poor fellow

....just across the street, there are the museums of history of art and natural history, which face each other. Domino and I had some fun in front of the museum of natural history. Afterwards, we went to one of the biggest shopping streets of Vienna, Mariahilferstraße. We saw some nice dolls in a shop window. What a nice afternoon!

Hi mum,
Just wanted to let you know I'm fine. My hosts caught a cold last weekend and they are really sorry that we couldn't do anything exciting these days. Hope you are fine! Hugs from Austria!

Hi mum,
Since it is the Fasching season (carnival), my hosts had a little fancy-dress party. The theme was "underwater" so I decided to dress up as a turtle....joking! I dressed up as a shell  :) We helped our hosts decorate the flat and we ate some Krapfen (~ donuts with apricot jam). The guests had some very funny ideas....there was a Spongebob, Triton with some cute "tattoos" and a Titanic & iceberg. Those guys were really creative!

Hi mum,
Guess what?! It snowed yesterday. So today we took a little walk in the snow and enjoyed the sun at the same time. We even built a snowman :-)

Hi mum,
I had a nice weekend! I'm glad you liked the last posts and my little trick with the costume ;-) A very special parcel arrived on Saturday morning. My hosts had ordered lots of bars for hot chocolate from Zotter, an Austrian producer. Here's some info from the website: .."In August 2007 Josef Zotter launched his new production facility in Riegersburg, the ChocolateFactory..... He is not only one of the few European companies which process cocoa directly, but also the only manufacturer who produces exclusively in ORGANIC and FAIR quality starting with the bean. In this way Zotter clearly positions himself against standardised mass production ...." The variety of flavours is incredible! We also had a delicious lunch and spent some more time outdoors. Have a good week!

Hi mum,
How are you? I'm fine. Domino left today, it was a quite emotional moment because we have become very good friends. He goes back home now. I'm already curious to find out who my next host will be, but I'm just fine here until I continue my journey. My hosts bought some books, including English ones, so I read a lot. And there's a birthday to celebrate this weekend and I'm quite sure I'll get a piece of a delicious cake  ;)

Hi mum,
I'm very excited!! My journey continues! I'm looking forward to meet my new host! Today was really my last day in Austria. I enjoyed my weeks here very much. I even made another encounter, the Rote Pelzerer (the Red Furry), who comes from the farm of a very good friend's aunt. A very friendly fellow. But now it's time to leave.... My hosts are very sad but they are also looking forward to see my next updates! I'll write again soon, mum!

Hello Mummy,
I arrived at my new host's home today. My host Katja and the TVs Snakey, Buzz BlueJay and Nook gave me a warm welcome.

It did not take long until a furious furry thing hopped onto the sofa to say Hello to us.

It was one of Katja's three ferrets, Shiva.

Hi Mummy,

We took a walk today in the district Luettringhausen. We brought Katja's friend's son to the soccer training there. In the meantime we took a walk in the surroundings.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7050/6836691246_ffaa889414_o.jpg

We found a lovely place, hidden in the valley - an historic hammer mill. Iron and steel was produced here since 15th century.

A large millwheel was lying on the ground.

Hi Mummy,
we went out for a walk in the afternoon, although the weather is no longer that nice as yesterday. Here you can see the street where I am living at the moment, lots of lovely houses built in the early 1900's.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7061/6844472958_7af07e053d_o.jpg

The next photo was still taken in the city centre.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7045/6844473062_93337a8422_o.jpg

Than we walked towards the outskirts of Remscheid, deep in a valley.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7064/6990597411_9f3c39c779_o.jpg

Here you can also find very old houses, much older than those in the city centre.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7188/6844473266_74af710a56_o.jpg

You can often find older industrial sites close to dwellings here.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7184/6844469474_1838c40ff6_o.jpg

Snowdrops are blooming everywhere.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7056/6990597939_0817d01985_o.jpg

We reached the district Hasten than. Here you can see two museums, the German Tool Museum and a Patrician Villa, built in late 18th century. In this Villa you can see how people lived in those years.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7066/6844473788_2928100395_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7062/6844473918_c3905c4ced_o.jpg

There is a park behind those museums, built as an outdoor facility. There are several machines outside. (We needed a little rest after walking so long.)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7047/6990598569_647f0d0225_o.jpg

From here we still had to walk uphill for more than half an hour to get home - it's really exhausting here :)

Hi Mummy,
with the most lovely weather we could not wait to go outside in the afternoon. Out first stop was a small park in front of the police headquarter.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7250/6996961561_a723f44227_o.jpg

From here we went to the station. The old station was replaced by a new one about two years ago. A few months ago they finally finished a bridge for pedestrians from the station across a broad road.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6234/6850836894_4126bf0373_o.jpg

Here you can see the bus station in front of the station. Katja told me that in about two weeks it will be a sea of blossoms. All the trees are Japanese cherry trees.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6105/6996961843_8dcea78301_o.jpg

We went to the city centre than.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7231/6996961985_7f03307ed9_o.jpg

Katja showed us this coal tub, a present from Remscheid's twin town Wansbeck in Northumberland, England.

The music school is situated in the nice reddish building.

Hi Mummy,
we are having wonderful weather here.

We took a walk today to visit Muengsten Bridge, the highest railway bridge in Germany. The bridge is overspanning a valley between Remscheid and the neighbour city Solingen. We had to walk for about an hour to get there. Our walk took us through a rural area.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7246/7014277005_5a72bafde8_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7059/7014277161_523734b9d7_o.jpg

We went into the forest than.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7278/6868167464_bb7214f24f_o.jpg

There was a viewpoint. We saw the bridge here. Katja told us that we would still have to walk some time until we were in the valley under the bridge.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6230/6868167658_391489875e_o.jpg

We were under the bridge than, but still not on the bottom of the valley.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6053/6868167830_ee17bbaaf2_o.jpg

The bridge is about 480 long, 107 m tall and was completed in 1907. There were restauration works in the last years, but there will have to be more in the following years. The brige was built of steel and it will have to be strengthened.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7090/7014277903_322afdf723_o.jpg

Out path led us downhill to river Wupper, flowing in the valley.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7108/6868168190_5768004f05_o.jpg

Parts of the soil are covered with anemones.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6059/7014278251_4ec4532f5a_o.jpg

We crossed the river Wupper here.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6240/6868168660_ae32ea3960_o.jpg

Finally we reached Muengsten Bridge with a leisure park underneath it.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6231/7014278767_6e83e5b1da_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7050/7014278941_fd64ac2e71_o.jpg

A lot of people were here, enjoying the lovely weather and the warmth of the sun.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6114/6868169370_841a3d113e_o.jpg

Isn't this an impressive view, this bridge growing out of the forest?

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6100/7014279681_c16b80d233_o.jpg

The workshop of an artist blacksmith is situated here. He made some funny things, like the shark.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6103/6868169992_d216e80d9a_o.jpg

We took the bus back home, being a bit tired ;)

Hi Mummy,
we were really shocked this morning - it was extremely cold outside, about 0°C!

At noontime it became a bit warmer, so we took a walk with Katja's nephew and her brother-in-law in Hohenhagen, a district of Remscheid. It is a housing area with access to woodland and a rural area. You can see the outskirts of the neighbour city Wuppertal on the first photo.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7204/6889164566_89ac8529cb_o.jpg

We saw the frist spring flowers :)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7130/6889155674_fca8a6db8d_o.jpg

The A1 motorway is passing by. A terrible storm in 2007 destroyed large parts of the forest, so you can see the motorway nowadays.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7269/7035257273_b706dc658b_o.jpg

We saw deer in the forest. We took a zoomed photo.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7178/7035270551_dd90f8229a_o.jpg

This is the housing area. In the background you can see the water tower in the city centre of Remscheid, about 3 km from here.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7049/7035259311_2a6743bc4d_o.jpg

Later we went to Katja's relatives to let her ferrets play in the garden.

Hi Mummy,
my host had a day off work today and we had planned to take a long walk with two friends - and two dogs :)

We went to the neighbour city Solingen to take a walk around a drinking water dam, Sengbachtalsperre.

Nook and I enjoyed the lovely weather and running through the forest.

Signs warned us not to scare up game because they are having kids now.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7232/7042816231_bc130f65cb_o.jpg

The path was going uphill and we were high above the lake than.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5455/7042811703_fcc06a63b9_o.jpg

There are also bridle paths.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5329/6896720994_cc80e5af00_o.jpg

The bright spot in the background is Remscheid, we also took a zoomed photo.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5076/7042812253_9a66556b9f_o.jpg

We reached the concrete dam, which is under construction at the moment.

Katja showed us Schloss Burg, a medieval castle, situated in Solingen-Burg. Unfortunately we did not have time to take a side trip to visit it.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7221/7042817029_dc0ff16065_o.jpg

On our way back to the car we came across meadows with horses and some riding stables.

Hi Mummy,
today we visited a medieval castle in the neighbour city Solingen, Schloss Burg, It is situated high upon a hill above the River Wupper.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7068/6933830804_c93710752d_o.jpg

Schloss Burg was built in 1133 by Count Adolf I von Berg on a hill above the river Wupper. That's why this region is called "Bergisches Land". Many people believe that it's name refers to the landscape with hills and valleys. (For those who do not speak German: The German word for mountain or hill is "Berg", so many people think that the name "Bergisches Land" means "land of many hills" )

About a hundred years later it was enlarged by Count Engelberg II von Berg. This is the man on the horse in the courtyard.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7139/6938502860_2c04b7cc7f_o.jpg

In Thirty Years War (17th century) large parts of the castle were destroyed. It was rebuilt then, but it was used for industrial purposes for many years. In the end of the 19th century they began to rebuild it as it appears today.

In the castle courtyard you can find souvenir shops and shops whose owners are doing an "old" handcraft, for example handmade brushes, brooms, soap, lovely yarns and wooden knitting needles, toys like swords and helmets and much more.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7186/7079902607_3846aa9339_o.jpg

The round tower was the powder tower, it was restored about two years ago.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7068/7079902159_a3ed53d451_o.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7188/7079904527_42d34e7924_o.jpg

When we walked back to the car, we saw some of those lovely half-timbered houses which were built in 17th century.

I'M HOME! :D Oh, it is all quiet here :( My mum isn't back from university yet, I will have to wait many weeks. However Pinnochio and some others are here to keep me company. I have shown them my wonderful postcards that my last host Olgamaus let me take home, and I think we will have already eaten the chocolates by the time mum gets back :P

Thankyou for hosting me Olgamaus, and please let the other TVs with you know I arrived safely :) I will miss them!

I am on a break now until the end of June, but I will be back B) x
