Today Syd, Buddy, Bernie and me (Kevin) went with Sue to Woodend, it was soooo cold. We had a look at the creek, it had lots of water, the footpath was covered over under the bridge. We were all a bit scared hanging on the fence over the water. :o

We had the longest plane ride - 13 hours to LA and then another 5 to New York!  I was too excited to sleep much so it was lucky I had Ricki the giraffe to keep me company!  We watched lots of movies and ate so much food I thought I might burst!  When we finally got to our hotel in New York we ate some pizza for tea and went straight to bed!  Mel, Ricki and I were really tired and fell asleep right away......Tim on the other hand had trouble sleeping and woke us at 4am!

When we got up the next morning it was time to move to a new hotel!  It was a funny trip because the wheels on Tim's suitcase stopped working and he had to drag it!  By the time we got to the Skyline hotel the wheels were flat on one side!!!!!

We've had a big week of sightseeing in New York!  We've seen Central Park - including the Zoo, the Delacorte clock, the Carousel, Strawberry Fields, Belvedere Castle and lots of different statues!  We've also been to FAO Schwarz, the Museum of Natural History, Times Square, Toys R Us, Hershey World, M&M World, the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building!  We also saw the Naked Cowboy and Girl but Mel said we were too little and covered our eyes!!!

New York is so big, colorful, exciting and BUSSSSSSSYYYYYY!!!!

We had a big long bus ride on Friday!  We stopped in New Haven, Connecticut for morning tea.....apparently that is where a place called Yale University!  For lunch we went to a place called Luxe Burger in Providence, Rhode Island, it was yummmmmmy!

It was mid afternoon when we finally reached our destination, Boston, Massachusetts!  We went for a drive around the town and then checked in to our hotel. Right next door there was a really big lolly shop and we went and bought some salt water taffy and presents for people :). For dinner we went to a restaurant called Dick's Last Resort!  It was very funny there cause the waiters pick on you (in a funny way).

The next morning we went on a tour of Harvard University which was really fun :). After that we split off from the rest of the tour group and we caught a train to meet Mel's friend Laura. She took us to a place called Salem where we learnt all about the Witch Trials. We looked around the shops and went to the Witch Dungeon Museum and the House of Seven Gables!  Laura was really nice and she looked after us!  After a long afternoon we caught a train and a taxi back to the hotel and had a nice early night!

This morning we got up early and we are about to get back on the buss and head to Canada :D

Today we went into the city to look at the elephant statues around the city.  The Melbourne Zoo is celebrating 150 years of keeping and caring for elephants and so there are 50 elephant statues on an elephant walk, around the city. They are painted by prominent artists.

Hello Mommy,

I arrived in Germany!!! When my envelope stopped to shake I heard some voices.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1231.jpg

When my envelope opened I saw the faces and a butt in another envelope.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1232.jpg

I crawled out of my envelope and heard that this butt belongs to  Günther, who got an envelope from his Mom!
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1233.jpg

I told these guys about my jouney. Then I went back into my envelope.
The others stopped talking.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1234.jpg

Then I came back with a postcard and a keyring from home. :D The others were so happy. They thought I wouldn't like them, but I do!
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1235.jpg

Then I helped Günther to get out the stuff from the envelope of his Mom.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1236.jpg

Günther got his traveltag from his Mom. He was so happy!

Hello Mommy,

another update by car.

This time we used the freeway.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1275.jpg

Hit the gas to get some speed...
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1276.jpg

...passing a truck...
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1277.jpg

This bridge isn't for cars or people. It's for animals like deers, foxes or boars to go from side of the freeway to the other side.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1278.jpg

...free way, hit the gas, reached 160km/h (about 100mph)...
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1279.jpg

...passing another freeway (interchange)...

...and another interchange...
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1283.jpg

...arrived in Berlin, this bridge is for the city train.

We also stopped in front of the famous orange tree on the historical market square. The tree is the symbol of the city.

Alex told us about a problem he has with a mouse. He decided to built a trap and needed our help.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1278-1.jpg

We put some cheese and sausage in the trap. Mice like that.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1279-1.jpg

Then we hid ourselves behind a tree and waited.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1280.jpg

After a while we saw someone in the trap.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1281-1.jpg

We caught it!!!
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1282.jpg

We let the trap down and oh... it wasn't a mouse. It was Alex' brother Rudy.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1283-1.jpg

We told him about the mouse and the trap and tried it again. We hid ourselves again behind the tree.
After a short time there was somebody else in the trap.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1284.jpg

We caught that creature!
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1285.jpg

When we let the trap down we found just 2 golden coins instead of a mouse or cheese or sausage in the trap.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1286-1.jpg

Rudy told us to use some pumpkin seeds, mice would love them. So we did.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1287-1.jpg

We went behind the tree and after a short time we saw someone in the trap again.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1288.jpg

We caught it! Yeah, we could see the feet. We got it!
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1289-1.jpg

We let the trap down and...what the...just another golden coin?! How could this be??? Alex is confused now!

Hello Mommy,

today we enjoyed our day at the lake "Gurke" ("cucumber" ). The original name is "Abandoned quarry Golpa II". The lake has a size of 20,94 hectare! It was an opencast for brown coal from 1936 till 1957. Now it is full of groundwater. Lots of people like to swim, do fishing or dive. Some people say that there are old trees under the water, but I don't believe that! At the lake is also a rowing club.

Hey Mommy,

today the weather was beautiful, so we decided to do a little tour in our car.

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1304-2.jpg

After a while somebody stopped us. He introduced himself as Flow and asked if he could drive the car. We all were really confused. Alex told us that one of his brothers drove along with Flow few weeks ago.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1307-1.jpg

While all seats in our car were filled with us :cyclops: there was no space for that Flow-guy. Alex told him that he's allowed to shift the car. He did it! So we saved lots of energy. ;)

Hey Mommy,

time for some sightseeing in the German capital.

First I saw the German Bundestag which is located in the Reichstag Building. The centrepiece of the building is the generously glazed chamber that is crowned by the dome. A funnel with panes of mirror glass reflects the daylight from above into the chamber.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1330.jpg

Then I saw one of the most well-known landmarks of Berlin and Germany, the Brandenburg Gate.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1338.jpg
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1345.jpg

Near the Brandenburg Gate I found the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as the Holocaust Memorial. It is a memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. It consists of a 19,000 square metres site covered with 2,711 concrete slabs or "stelae", arranged in a grid pattern on a sloping field. The stelae are 2.38 m long, 0.95 m wide and vary in height from 0.2 to 4.8 m.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1358.jpg
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1349.jpg

Potsdamer Platz - it is an important public square and traffic intersection in the centre of Berlin. It is named after the city of Potsdam, some 25 km to the south west, and marks the point where the old road from Potsdam passed through the city wall of Berlin at the Potsdam Gate. After developing within the space of little over a century from an intersection of rural thoroughfares into the most bustling traffic intersection in Europe, it was totally laid waste during World War II and then left desolate during the Cold War era when the Berlin Wall bisected its former location. Since German reunification, Potsdamer Platz has been the site of major redevelopment projects.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/ma_17/Toyvoyager/Tv_01/RIMG1363.jpg

The Sony Center is a Sony-sponsored building complex located at the Potsdamer Platz, opened in 2000. Sony Center contains a mix of shops, restaurants, a conference centre, hotel rooms, luxurious rented suites and condominiums, offices, art and film museums, cinemas, an IMAX theater, a small version of Legoland, and a "Sony Style" store.
At its highest point, the roof measures up to 67 meters above the Forum and has a free span of 102 meters length on the main axis and 77 meters length on the ancillary axis. By night the roof changes its colors between pink, red, blue, green...

today we went to the river Mulde. It is a river in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, a left tributary of the river Elbe and 124 km in length.
In August 2002 a flood caused severe damage! All places we were at these pictures were flooded in 2002, too!

Hi Mummy,
we took a walk in the afternoon. We are having fantastic weather, although it is rather cold outside, only about 3°C.

The first photos were taken when we left the house.

Most sidewalks are covered with leaves.

We walked downhill to the district Hasten when you can find a lot of old traditional houses.

You can find many of those houses which are covered with slate, they usually have green shutters.

Hi Mummy,
today we met a friend to take a walk in the late morning. The forests are muddy from the rainy weather we had before, so we mostly walked along the streets, this time to the Southern parts of Remscheid.

First I'll show you the station area.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8067/8154371837_22c0bf7e67_o.jpg

In the background you can see the city centre.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8205/8154398492_45296c2c84_o.jpg

We reached a district with lovely old houses.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8483/8154372433_a77095d0b5_o.jpg

To get back to "our" part of the city we went into the forest to cross a valley.

Hi Mummy,
we decided to visit my host's daughter. She is living in another district of Remscheid, a thirty minutes walk away. First we had to walk downhill.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7246/8151393835_c26e2eaa0d_o.jpg

Along the steep slopes of the hill you can often find allotment gardens.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8067/8151419234_2e74587050_o.jpg

This is an elementary school.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8061/8151417390_623e13d807_o.jpg

Here you can also find factory buildings among dwellings.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8337/8151419346_e111e4656c_o.jpg

Unfortunately it started to rain when we enjoyed a cup of coffee, so there was no further walk.

Hi Mummy,
the weather forecast promised great weather for today, so we decided to take a walk around Muengsten bridge, Germany's highest railway bridge.

Muengsten bridge is connecting the cities of Remscheid and Solingen, crossing the valley of river Wupper.

We walked through the forest, there are some playgrounds. Here we found those rocking sheep.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8485/8175564077_861d82c721_o.jpg

It only took a short walk to reach the bridge, that means, one of the places where it is fixed to the slope of the valley.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8490/8175564239_4e59715bbb_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8340/8175564683_76e3a7aef8_o.jpg

The bridge is 465 m long and 107 m tall at its highest point, built in late 19th century. Here you can see the bridge overspanning the valley, river Wupper underneath the bridge.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8343/8175598362_14f0763602_o.jpg

Our path was following the valley, with partly rocks along the way.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8346/8175565279_36c96030bd_o.jpg

The first houses of the district Burg came into sight.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8482/8175565651_5f8f6c38d1_o.jpg

On the hill opposite of us Schloss Burg was visible, a medieval castle. This district was named after it.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8066/8175566059_05cbf22474_o.jpg

Burg is one of several historic districts of Solingen, also in the valley of river Wupper.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8198/8175566177_6faf9d03af_o.jpg

To get back to the car we walked along the opposite bank of river Wupper, here was the last opportunity to cross the river.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8348/8175566623_a17729a345_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8343/8175566969_5f1c82b6bd_o.jpg

We reached the bottom of the valley than. A leisure park was built under the bridge a few years ago. You can find a crazy golf course here, lawns with benches for relaxing, playgrounds for the kids and restaurants.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8342/8175567111_034e18d3d3_o.jpg

Hi Mummy,
we are having fantastic weather today, so we took a walk to the municipal park in the afternoon.

We came along a large playground.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8062/8209294068_58f741b298_o.jpg

This is the police headquarter, close to the park.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8067/8200408344_98e2194f7e_o.jpg

There is a pond with ducks and turtles in the park.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8343/8209294306_9ec3ae4ef4_o.jpg

The municipal park is more or less a landscape park with really old trees.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8340/8208203101_76819afdae_o.jpg

An observatory is also situated in the park.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8070/8208203243_d21b7193c7_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8340/8209294690_e854df754e_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8340/8199317139_6ed6efa419_o.jpg

This memorial is dedicated to the dead of several wars earlier than WW I. Is is placed in a rose garden. Of course there is not a single blooming rose left in November.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8484/8208203577_5fdc20e42e_o.jpg

A nursery is also situated in the park, a training company for young people with a poor school diploma or even without any diploma.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8203/8200409712_f77ec98472_o.jpg

Now as it became darker it also became cold, so we hurried home.

We went out about two hours later. Unfortunately it was not cold enough for the snow, it already was melting slowly when we went out. But nontheless we had a lot of fun in the snow. Soon I was wet and cold :D (hopefully I will not get a cold!)

We walked along the so called "Route of Tools", a former track for freight trains. Many tracks were closed and were built to lanes for pedestrians and cyclists. Remscheid is an industrial city, famous for the tool producing industry here. Building the route was sponsored by local companies, so it was called "Route of Tools".

The route is about 5 km long, following the former track from the central station to the district Hasten. You can find a lot of industrial complexes along the route, as well newer ones as historical ones. This complex was a slaughterhouse once.

The closer we came to Hasten, the route was crossing more dwellings than industrial sites.

Hi Mummy,
last weekend's snow melted away really soon, but today it started to snow again. Today it is about freezing point outside, so the snow will not melt too soon.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8479/8252992448_3c01be253c_o.jpg

We went to the municipal park. Here you can see one of the churches in the city centre.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8346/8252992532_31b08a146e_o.jpg

Soon we reached the park. All those snow covered trees and bushes are looking beautiful.

I played in the snow with  3*Euro and  Suny.

Hi Mummy,
on Friday usually two or three friends are visiting us, Katja's knitting friends. Katja prepared eggnogg for her friends. Eggnogg is a popular winter drink in Germany, you can often get it on Christmas markets. To make it you need milk, cream, egg liqueur, rum, triple sec and amaretto.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8070/8252456855_0325ea282d_o.jpg

First you have to mix and heat milk, cream and egg liqueur - it must not boil!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8060/8252457121_2ffbce8d5b_o.jpg

Than you add the spirits and fill it into glasses. Served hot with whipped cream on top it is perfect :)

Hi Mummy,
today we made a fantastic trip to Duesseldorf, the capital city of the German state North-Rhine-Westphalia. We went there by train and walked from the station towards the old town with all the Christmas markets.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8223/8276085216_c6714dcd8c_o.jpg

Ah, this is already looking like a larger city. And they do not have snow here.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8064/8275020025_6d97e57bec_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8214/8276085400_9db9cfb394_o.jpg

We reached the shopping streets than.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8213/8275020407_bfc64003ea_o.jpg

A few minutes later we reached the old town. Christmas markets everywhere!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8348/8276085964_8c88af1260_o.jpg

You can buy all sorts of Christmas decorations, arts and crafts items, socks, herbs and spices and of course all the traditional food like potatoe pancakes, battered fish, sweets like sugarroasted almonds and nuts, candied fruits, candyfloss and all those hot winter drinks like hot wine punch and eggnogg.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8350/8276086192_34668a2cd6_o.jpg

We went into shp in this quarter and spend some minutes there.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8504/8276086278_ddaeb4af1d_o.jpg

When we came out a miracle had happened - the sun was shining and we had only a few steps to take to reach the river Rhine.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8218/8275021123_74bb6f2cdb_o.jpg

We went along the Rhine promenade with lots of bars and restaurants. In the background you can see the Burgplatz with a Ferris wheel.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8081/8276086846_950fa7b5d1_o.jpg

We walked closer to the Burgplatz.

This pirate ship is a cocktail bar in spring, summer and autumn.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8074/8276086958_215889829c_o.jpg

We decided to take a walk into the opposite direction, towards the parliament which is situated close to the Rhine. Here you can see the "Rheinkniebrücke", one of three bridges crossing the Rhine in the city area.

A look back to the old town ...

We reached the parliament building than, a fantastic complex  situated close to the Rhine promenade.

Here you can see an overview photo of it.

... and to the North.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8068/8276087578_0686cab9c6_o.jpg

We took a group photo on the lawn in front of the parliament building.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8480/8276109986_60ef1fc8a9_o.jpg

We walked around the building.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8363/8275022485_787d0a86b8_o.jpg

This is the entrance area.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8059/8276087912_3e84ecffd3_o.jpg

Later we went back to the old town to have lunch. Because it is getting dark so early we decided to have lots of fun with eggnogg, beer and mead without taking any more photos :D

Hi Mummy,
today we met Katja's friend Kerstin and took a walk with her and her dog.

We went to Wuppertal, to Scharpenacken, a former army training area. This area was used for military purposes until 2004 A.D as a shooting range. Today there is a local recreation area with vast open areas, but also woodland.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8211/8329596191_1eb6b6be2f_o.jpg

The whole area will be renatured in the coming years.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8500/8330653340_e8cebc0446_o.jpg

A lot of people come here with their dogs to let them run and play.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8079/8330653446_fd097815a2_o.jpg

Katja told me that Pepe, the dog, in summer usually is taking a bath in the creek which is running through the meadow.

today the Germany are celebrating Christmas. Katja's kids will visit us and we will have dinner together. We helped Katja to wrap some presents. This is probably a present for a man.

Hi Mummy,
today we made a trip to the neighbour city Wuppertal.

One of the city’s greatest attractions is the suspended monorail (Schwebebahn), which was established in 1901. The tracks are 8 m above the streets and 12 m above the Wupper River. The Schwebebahn is crossing some streets and even a motorway!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8503/8339762000_3b515bb571_o.jpg

Inside the station ...

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8359/8339762352_d5bc638963_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8496/8339762532_30102a44f6_o.jpg

Here you can see one of 20 stations along the 13,3 km long route. This one is nearby the local court and district court. It was rebuilt last year in its original historic style.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8361/8338705467_36ee23c721_o.jpg

We made a side trip to the Botanical garden because one of the TVs, Suny had a special wish which Katja tried to fulfill. The Botanical garden is situated high upon a hill called "Hardt" and we had to climb stairs after stairs for what felt like an eternity.

You can find the former country house of a textile manufacturers named Eller, which contained a villa (built 1820), orangery, residential and farm buildings, and the Elise Tower (built 1838) which provides the garden's focal point.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8351/8339762966_ecfd61a74f_o.jpg

I went into one of the greenhouses and found a banana plant. (Because it was rather cold outside and warm and humid inside, the camera was fogged immediately.)

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8224/8338705633_98037a23ce_o.jpg

Katja showed me a special tree in the garden, this one.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8496/8338706025_fcee66227b_o.jpg

It looks more or less like a dangerous animal, but not like a tree. It is a monkey puzzle tree, (Araucaria araucana). It originally came from South America, from Chile and Western Argentinia. Due to similar climate conditions it can grow here.

Because a Botanical garden is not so exciting in winter we walked back to the city centre because we had only about 90 minutes until it would get dark.

Walking stairs downhill was much more fun :)

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8363/8339763346_e91a777d08_o.jpg

In the city centre we recognized that Wuppertal is much larger than Remscheid. The pretty city hall was hidden behind a scaffolding.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8079/8339763546_802761e4a6_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8357/8339763682_0d946151b5_o.jpg

We saw the Schwebebahn again, next to a bank and a car park.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8491/8339763856_1594bf5d0f_o.jpg

Here you can see one of the other stations, a modern one this time.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8504/8338706847_fff5bfb0bc_o.jpg

Later we met Katja's daughter here and we spend some hours in the shopping streets.

Hi Mummy,
the weather is still ugly, nobody wants to go outside. Instead we helped Katja to prepare a veggie dinner.

First we fried zucchini and dryed tomatoes in a pan and added tomatoe sauce. Than we prepared feta to scallop the vegetables with it.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8220/8372689363_6a6684ba86_o.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8374/8373760124_9ed9c7053f_o.jpg

My host has funny placemats!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8093/8372689569_9349673d3f_o.jpg

We cut the remaining feta into pieces and fillend them into a jar with garlic, herbs, spices and dried tomatoes.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8517/8373760310_f00bd3ea31_o.jpg

We filled the jar with olive oil than to preserve the cheese.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8369/8373752572_6baca2e543_o.jpg

Unfortunately I will not be able to try it. It has to rest for at least one week, but I will leave tomorrow!

Hi Mummy,
we went to Katja's sister-in-law's family today to celebrate the last day of the year. When we arrived, there already was everything prepared for Raclette.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8504/8338688159_fe6ffbc6d5_o.jpg

There were lots of vegetables like sweet pepper, carrots, mushrooms, tomatoes, than there was beef and chicken meat, prawn, bread, potatoes and much more. Of course there was a lot of cheese :)

Later we called a tile-based game called "Rummikub". Do you know it?

Happy New Year!

Iit was raining the whole time, so the fireworks did not show up as nice as they could have had.

When you visit the "U.S.-Dakota War of 1862” exhibit at the History Center, you'll examine the evidence, hear heart-wrenching stories and learn about the broken treaties and promises that led to this disastrous chapter in Minnesota history.
The war ended with hundreds dead, the Dakota people exiled from their homeland and the largest mass execution in U.S. history: the hangings of 38 Dakota men in Mankato on Dec. 26, 1862.
2012 marks 150 years since the U.S.-Dakota War. It was waged for six weeks in southern Minnesota over the late summer of 1862, but the war’s causes began decades earlier and the profound loss and consequences of the war are still felt today.
There are many, often conflicting, interpretations of events relating to the war. “The U.S.-Dakota War of 1862” exhibit includes multiple viewpoints as well as historical and contemporary voices. Visitors are encouraged to make up their own minds about what happened and why, to discuss what they are seeing and learning, and to leave comments.
Descendants of people involved in the war have taken an active role in shaping the exhibit. Exhibits staff have met with Dakota people from throughout Minnesota, the Upper Midwest and Canada and with settler descendants from the Minnesota River Valley region to solicit research advice and comb through original documents, letters, diaries, artifacts and other historical sources to assemble a narrative of what happened. These meetings with descendants are part of a broader initiative called a “truth recovery” project.

Chino and I went to Sam’s Club, the Post Office and made Tacos for dinner tonight. Not that much going on but it was fun! We just had a great time relaxing and having a great time.
Sam’s Club is a membership only store that sells in larger quantities/wholesale with great prices!

Hämeenlinna

My host is a postcrosser and today there was a big meet-up in Hämeenlinna. We went there with friends. Early in the morning we met at the railway station (but did not take a train, one friend was driving).

Morning was sunny  and foggy and absolutely beautiful!

In Hämeenlinna we bought lots of postcards and collected together with over 30 people to write all the cards. I met many postcrossers, including traveling_teddy  ;) I also met some geocachers, the frog belonged to one of them.

We ate in one restaurant -oh, how I was hungry! While driving we saw a little bit of this town (missed the castle  :(  ) and headed home...

Taulumäki Church

This is the church I visited today:

Taulumäki Church of Jyväskylä parish. The church was completed in 1929 by architect Elsi Borg plans. The church was called the church of Angels. Taulumäki  Church has  the tower which is over 30 meters high. The church seats about 700 people.

The tradition of Saint Nicholas Day, on 6 December (19 December in most Orthodox countries), is a festival for children in many countries in Europe related to surviving legends of Saint Nicholas, and particularly his reputation as a bringer of gifts. The American Santa Claus, as well as the British Father Christmas, derive from these legends.

Hello Mum,

The winter came to Sülfeld, so we had to take photos with some snow.

Let’s start with this archaeological monument.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0279.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0280.jpg

Some children wanted to use their sleighs behind me, but I think there was not enough snow.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0285.jpg

Well – no sunshine on my stone, but I loved the light on the old school.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0289.jpg

And the emblem of Sülfeld is beautiful, too.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0292.jpg

My last stop was next to the church. A wonderful photo with a little snow and the sunshine.

I love the wintertime!

Hello Mum,

Today we had great weather, so we explored the surroundings of Sülfeld.

What a wonderful sky with beautiful clouds!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0324.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0325.jpg

But to tell the truth – it was really cold!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0330.jpg

What a long way – maybe I should have stayed at home?

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0336.jpg

Fortunately we found a sunny place for a rest.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0341.jpg

I loved this place – with a far view. Well, of course there are not really big hills here in Northern Germany.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0346.jpg

And the small river here was nice, too.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0350.jpg

The last photo shows me and Dicker Kumpel’s famous tree. Nice!

What a wonderful walk!

Hello Mum,

Today I went to Hamburg – this lake is called Alster.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0412.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0413.jpg

Behind me you can see the town hall.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0421.jpg

And this is another nice view over the Alsterarkaden.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0429.jpg

Look – what a beautiful postbox.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0434.jpg

Here you can see the town hall again – a beautiful building.

Hello Mum,

We went to the port of Hamburg today. I had a nice view from a place called Landungsbrücken.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0510.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0511.jpg

What a nice tower.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0512.jpg

On the other side of the Elbe River there are two musical halls – the left one is really new.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0522.jpg

Behind me you can see the sailing ship Rickmer Rickmers.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0529.jpg

Then we had a great idea – we jumped onto a small ferry to the building Elbphilharmonie. I had a nice view over the Elbe River.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0533.jpg

Hamburg’s port is really beautiful.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0541.jpg

We came near to the both musical halls.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0547.jpg

Me in front of the skyline of the port.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0548.jpg

This is the Elbphilharmonie – a very expensive building.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0556.jpg

I looked to another part of the port – the cruise terminal – but there is no cruise ship today.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0565.jpg

And here is the part where they load and unload big ships.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Jan_0574.jpg

It was a nice trip for us TVs, RikeH had a hard time, because it was really cold – and her fingers got so cold!

Hello Mum,

Many greetings from the Cruise Ship AIDA Sol. We celebrated the start of our trip with delicious Champagne.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0002.jpg

Today we started our day on our balcony.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0103.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0101.jpg

It was enough place for all of us and we talked a lot.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0102.jpg

This is the view to the front of the ship – yes we are living in the front of the ship – just over the bridge.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0104.jpg

There you can see the front of the ship.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0105.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0106.jpg

On a cruise ship you spend a lot of time with eating – so it was time for some sports. We have a Power Plate in our cabin. First RikeH explained us how it works.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0107.jpg

Then it started to shake…

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0108.jpg

…and we had to train our arms.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0109.jpg

After that it was time to relax in the living-room.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0110.jpg

This is the place where I write my updates.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0113.jpg

And here I am sleeping – in the morning I can see the sea out of my bed – this is great!

Hello Mum,

We are in Africa and went to a small city called Asilah. Behind me you see a religious building.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0153.jpg

This was another tower…

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0160.jpg

… next to a nice place.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0161.jpg

Next to the city there is a long beach – many children played soccer there.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0165.jpg

This is the door to a palace, but we were not allowed to visit it.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0169.jpg

Later we had this nice view over the city – but it was very windy.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0173.jpg

My last photo shows a big wall – there were many of them here in Asilah.

Hello Mum,

Yesterday we went to Lissabon. It was noon when we saw the city.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0258.jpg

I saw the tower of Belem and the famous monument.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0274.jpg

There was a big bridge over the Rio Tejo.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0284.jpg

Today was an exciting day – we had a TV-meeting.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0326.jpg

It was great to sit together and talk!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0327.jpg

Poschti came on the Cruise with us so we had a welcome party this evening.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0356.jpg

We had chocolate and fruits.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0357.jpg

And I had my own bottle of Coke.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0362.jpg

Then we all took one piece of fruit and one piece of chocolate.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0366.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0374.jpg

It was a nice party, but then we were tired and went into our TV-bed.

Hello Mum,

After a bumpy trip from Lissabon we arrived in La Coruna. Because of the stormy weather we will stay here for two days. Today we took a walk. Behind me you can see the harbor.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0405.jpg

There were many small fisherboats.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0411.jpg

From this point we had a good view of our Cruise Ship – it is really tall, isn’t it?

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0419.jpg

There was a fortress – nowadays it is a museum.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0428.jpg

We saw big waves – maybe it is a good idea to stay a little longer in this town?

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0433.jpg

Believe it or not – only some steps from the water I found this sunny place with the beautiful flowers.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0443.jpg

These houses with the balconies with glass in front of it are typical for La Coruna.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0450.jpg

This is the town hall – really nice.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0457.jpg

Back on the ship I stood on the balcony – can you see the fortress behind me – there we went.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0464.jpg

And I want to show you this – every evening we got these chocolates – a Cruise is wonderful.

Hello Mum,

I told you about the bumpy trip to la Coruna. We took some photos of it, but I forgot to update it.
So here can you see me and my friends looking out of the window. Here you can see nothing from the rough sea…

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0335.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0336.jpg

But now you can see more – the waves!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0338.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0339.jpg

I went onto the balcony and saw the waves on the side of the ship.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0345.jpg

Today the weather was much nicer!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0351.jpg

Later I went onto the pool-deck.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0134.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0135.jpg

There was a big  screen on the deck!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0133.jpg

Here you can see the name of the cruise line.

Bonjour Mum,

It was time for a new country – this time we were in France. We arrived in Le Havre.

The architect here loved concrete - you see it everywhere.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0532.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0533.jpg

We wanted to see a nicer town and went to Honfleur. There was a beautiful harbor!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0544.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0545.jpg

We went into a big wooden church.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0550.jpg

Here you can see the tower of it.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0555.jpg

There were many old buildings in the town.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0565.jpg

Later we continued our trip and went to Deauville. This is the promenade next to the beach. The clothing rooms are named after famous movie stars.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0565.jpg

We walked along the beach – it was wonderful!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/AIDA_0570.jpg

There were funny houses in the city.

We spent our last hours on the ship relaxing on our balcony.

Hello Mum,

Back in Germany we had lovely weather, so today it was time for a walk.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0005.jpg

The nature starts now – because it is springtime.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0016.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0017.jpg

It was nice to sit in the sunshine with my friends.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0022.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0023.jpg

Soon there will be some swans on the lake.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0028.jpg

We came along another beautiful small lake.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0036.jpg

This is Dicker Kumpel’s famous tree. We all have to take photos with it every time we see it.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0042.jpg

Back home we saw the German flag.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0052.jpg

This stone stood in front of Dicker Kumpel’s house.

Hi Mum,

We went to a small town called Bad Oldesloe. This is the biggest church here.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0073.jpg

I went into it – there were colorful windows.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0082.jpg

I met two wooden men.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0091.jpg

There was a big organ. Sadly nobody was there to play it.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0096.jpg

Then I came to a nice water wheel.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0106.jpg

I learnt a lot about it on this sign.

Hello Mum,

It was time for some sports – and we decided to play billiards.

Dicker Kumpel explained the rules.

He showed us how to play.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0151.jpg

Then it was my time.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0154.jpg

It was so much fun!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0155.jpg

Fortunately I won with 5:4.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Maerz_0164.jpg

Then I explored the room. A horse lived here in the Past, I guess.

Hello Mum,

Dicker Kumpel received a game from his friend Murph – and today we wanted to play it.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0001.jpg

There were some chocolate bars with photos of wild animals on it. Well – a nice game – looking at photos.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0002.jpg

But it was not that easy. They were turned on the wrong side and you can turn two. If they were the same photos you won the chocolate, if not you turn it again – and search new pairs, when it’s your turn. First I found two different animals.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0003.jpg

But then I followed my instincts and smell at the cards.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0025.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0026.jpg

I found two that had the smell of a big cat.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0027.jpg

I was right!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0028.jpg

Two lions!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0030.jpg

When we finished the game I was really good with one pair – hopefully you are proud of me, Mum!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0034.jpg

Dicker Kumpel who won the most pairs shared two pieces of chocolate with us.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0035.jpg

It was yummy, Mum!

Hello Mum,

Happy Easter! Today it is the Day of the Bunnies! We all sat in the sunshine and waited for RikeH.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0100.jpg

She arrived and told us that the Easter Bunny has been here – and we could start searching for some sweets!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0101.jpg

I found some chocolate!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0106.jpg

But can you find me on the photo?

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0107.jpg

Here I am!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0108.jpg

Then we went to another part of the garden – here we should have a race for eggs.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0109.jpg

We all were ready to run!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0110.jpg

Look – I have no idea why, but I won!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0111.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0112.jpg

Later we found this great plant – chocolate lollipops are growing in it!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0117.jpg

A great place!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0119.jpg

This was the first part of Easter – tomorrow we will meet the Eater Bunny!

Hello Mum,

Today was an exciting day, too. We went to visit Dicker Kumpel’s grandma. Many bunnies were living there.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0151.jpg

I would love to send you these beautiful flowers!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0166.jpg

And I met these chicken – I think they worked hard for Easter.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0178.jpg

Maybe these were the children of the chicken?

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0181.jpg

Then I met the Easter Bunny. This was so great – it was very nice and friendly.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0144.jpg

When we came back to Dicker Kumpel’s home we went into the garden and saw two beautiful trees.

Hello Mum,

We went to another village today – called Grabau. There we saw a lot of big stones and learnt a lot about their history.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0300.jpg

Behind me you can see one of the big stones.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0304.jpg

We rested on another stone.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0306.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0307.jpg

Then we went into the forest – time for a kind of safari. We will go into this house and look for wild animals.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0310.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0323.jpg

There was a deer.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0315.jpg

And a bunny! Far away!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0316.jpg

And I found a small animal? Well – where is it?

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0321.jpg

There it is.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0322.jpg

You remember that I saw a bunny – I went closer – and it was a friendly bunny!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0326.jpg

I even met a boar – he was huge!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0327.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0328.jpg

We continued our walk and went to a nice lake – the Hohendammer Mühlenteich. I learnt a lot about the animals here, too.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0332.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0333.jpg

Many bird live here – maybe we will see some.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0334.jpg

We were really quiet and saw some nice birds.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/April_0339.jpg

What a great place!

Hello Mum,

Today was a great day – Murph and his guests will come and visit us. We waited.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0004.jpg

Then they arrived.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0005.jpg

It was great to see them all.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0006.jpg

Murph brought gifts for all of us!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0012.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0014.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0016.jpg

Wonderful!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0025.jpg

Dicker Kumpel planned a game for us - how exciting!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0026.jpg

He explained the rules. We played with the die.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0027.jpg

Everyone who has a six put the cap and the scarf on like this.  Then he or she was allowed to ‘fight’ with the wrapped chocolate. This seems to be funny. Let’s start.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0028.jpg

I threw the dice – unfortunately no 6…

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0029.jpg

The next time there was a 6 – I took the cap and the scarf – and here I go.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0046.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0047.jpg

After the game we all ate sweets – yummy!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0049.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0054.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/2014/Mai_0060.jpg

It was a funny day!

We have had some great adventures. I even went to Greece! I can't show any pics now, cause Emjay's PC is down.
Anyway, I wanted to let you know I'm fine.
Happy new year, mum!

Hi there, mum!

We were for a quick visit in Rotterdam today.
When we got home, we had a surprise: an envelope arrived from the UK! Scoop and me tried to open it with our beaks and... a nice brown bear came out! He said his name is "Gozer" (which means "dude") Well, hello dude! I'm sure we'll be friends!

Hi Mom!

Today I visited the city of Bamberg.

The oldtown of Bamberg is very beautiful and interesting because it is an UNESCO  World Heritage Site.

This is the river  "Regnitz.
http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t386/toyvoyager2015/P1130424_zpsdx9fth1w.jpg

First I show you "Altes Rathaus" (Old Town hall).
http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t386/toyvoyager2015/P1130431_zpsdj7fahhi.jpg

The painting on the house wall is amazing!
http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t386/toyvoyager2015/P1130435_zpsbzvdgsni.jpg

Behind me you see "Klein-Venedig" (Little Venice).  There we go now.
http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t386/toyvoyager2015/P1130438_zpsaxhs6bkv.jpg

Here we are! "Little Venice" are very old buildings from the fishermen.

This is the cathetral.

Beside the cathetral is the "Alte Hofhaltung" (Old Court).

One of this hills is the "Altenburg".

After around 43 hours train we finally arrived in Lhasa!!!
It was 3757m in total, and I do feel a bit altitude sick.. Think about it, the altitude is only 50m back in Beijing:thinking:
I saw the magnificent Potala Palace, which is definitely the highest building in Lhasa.
Dear mum, I also went to local postoffice, and then we took a stroll around Potala Palace.

Wandering aroung Barkhor Street where is the most popular local shopping area, we visited the famous Jokhang, here are some infomation: :)

Quote:
The Jokhang is located on Barkhor Square in Lhasa, the capital city of the country of Tibet. For most Tibetans it is the most sacred and important temple in Tibet. It is in some regards pan-sectarian, but is controlled by the Gelug school. The temple's architectural style is a mixture of Indian vihara design, Tibetan, and Nepalese design.

The Jokhang was founded during the reign of king Songtsän Gampo. According to tradition, the temple was built for the two brides of the king, Princess Wencheng of the Chinese Tang dynasty and Princess Bhrikuti of Nepal. Both wives are said to have brought important Buddhist statues and images from China and Nepal to Tibet as part of their dowries, and they were housed here. Initially, many Nepalese artists worked to construct this temple.

The bus in Lhasa looks exactly the same as in Beijing, except they use both Chinese and Tibatan to give the information of next stop.
We were just going to explore a little bit of the old town, surprisely found that the Exquisite Exhibition of the Second China Thangka was hold in a historic yard!!! :cyclops:

Fancy the lovely tea house which is located in an old temple, have a cup of sweet buttered tea and enjoy your fresh day. ;)

Quote:
A thangka, variously spelt as tangka, thanka or tanka is a Tibetan Buddhist painting on cotton, or silk appliqué, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala. Thangkas are traditionally kept unframed and rolled up when not on display, mounted on a textile backing somewhat in the style of Chinese scroll paintings, with a further silk cover on the front. So treated, thangkas can last a long time, but because of their delicate nature, they have to be kept in dry places where moisture will not affect the quality of the silk. Most thankas are relatively small, comparable in size to a Western half-length portrait, but some are extremely large, several metres in each dimension; these were designed to be displayed, typically for very brief periods on a monastery wall, as part of religious festivals. Most thankas were intended for personal meditation or instruction of monastic students. They often have elaborate compositions including many very small figures. A central "deity" is often surrounded by other identified figures in a symmetrical composition. Narrative scenes are less common, but do appear.

Thangka serve as important teaching tools depicting the life of the Buddha, various influential lamas and other deities and bodhisattvas. One subject is The Wheel of Life (Bhavachakra), which is a visual representation of the Abhidharma teachings (Art of Enlightenment). The term may sometimes be used of works in other media than painting, including reliefs in metal and woodblock prints. Today printed reproductions at poster size of painted thangka are commonly used for devotional as well as decorative purposes. Many thangka were produced in sets, though they have often subsequently become separated.

Thangka perform several different functions. Images of deities can be used as teaching tools when depicting the life (or lives) of the Buddha, describing historical events concerning important Lamas, or retelling myths associated with other deities. Devotional images act as the centerpiece during a ritual or ceremony and are often used as mediums through which one can offer prayers or make requests. Overall, and perhaps most importantly, religious art is used as a meditation tool to help bring one further down the path to enlightenment. The Buddhist Vajrayana practitioner uses a thanga image of their yidam, or meditation deity, as a guide, by visualizing "themselves as being that deity, thereby internalizing the Buddha qualities" Thangkas hang on or beside altars, and may be hung in the bedrooms or offices of monks and other devotees.

We found that the moon was really bright and clear last night, so we planned a tiny small walking trip along the river in this afternoon, ummm actually during the lunch break.

Look how blue the sky was!!! :)
Passing through the gate of Mia's work place, we saw the Military Museum, went on to the cross roads on the west, the not that tall architecture is the old CCTV building, most people might know the new one which is located in CBD, also well-known for its pants-shape appearence. Followed by the Chinese Century Altar, a photo exhibition was held inside. Oh that was Vivisn Maier...
We finally arrived to the river bank, the river itself looks bluer because of the sky. Mia said the metal bridge reminded her of Tyne Bridge, do you think they look similar?

The under the bridge picture was under the 3rd ring road of Beijing;)

Hello Mom!

Now it's winter in Germany!
Here is a little bit of snow.
It looks wonderful!

I was on the former border of Germany.
The border was open on the 2.December 1989.

He was an observation tower on the former border between BRD and GDR.
