We had the longest plane ride - 13 hours to LA and then another 5 to New York! I was too excited to sleep much so it was lucky I had Ricki the giraffe to keep me company! We watched lots of movies and ate so much food I thought I might burst! When we finally got to our hotel in New York we ate some pizza for tea and went straight to bed! Mel, Ricki and I were really tired and fell asleep right away......Tim on the other hand had trouble sleeping and woke us at 4am!
When we got up the next morning it was time to move to a new hotel! It was a funny trip because the wheels on Tim's suitcase stopped working and he had to drag it! By the time we got to the Skyline hotel the wheels were flat on one side!!!!! We've had a big week of sightseeing in New York! We've seen Central Park - including the Zoo, the Delacorte clock, the Carousel, Strawberry Fields, Belvedere Castle and lots of different statues! We've also been to FAO Schwarz, the Museum of Natural History, Times Square, Toys R Us, Hershey World, M&M World, the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building! We also saw the Naked Cowboy and Girl but Mel said we were too little and covered our eyes!!! New York is so big, colorful, exciting and BUSSSSSSSYYYYYY!!!! |
||
RickiFan17 Posted Mar 7, 2012, 2:37 pm |
We had a big long bus ride on Friday! We stopped in New Haven, Connecticut for morning tea.....apparently that is where a place called Yale University! For lunch we went to a place called Luxe Burger in Providence, Rhode Island, it was yummmmmmy!
It was mid afternoon when we finally reached our destination, Boston, Massachusetts! We went for a drive around the town and then checked in to our hotel. Right next door there was a really big lolly shop and we went and bought some salt water taffy and presents for people . For dinner we went to a restaurant called Dick's Last Resort! It was very funny there cause the waiters pick on you (in a funny way). The next morning we went on a tour of Harvard University which was really fun . After that we split off from the rest of the tour group and we caught a train to meet Mel's friend Laura. She took us to a place called Salem where we learnt all about the Witch Trials. We looked around the shops and went to the Witch Dungeon Museum and the House of Seven Gables! Laura was really nice and she looked after us! After a long afternoon we caught a train and a taxi back to the hotel and had a nice early night! This morning we got up early and we are about to get back on the buss and head to Canada |

Hello Mommy,
I arrived in Germany!!! When my envelope stopped to shake I heard some voices. When my envelope opened I saw the faces and a butt in another envelope. I crawled out of my envelope and heard that this butt belongs to Günther, who got an envelope from his Mom! I told these guys about my jouney. Then I went back into my envelope. The others stopped talking. Then I came back with a postcard and a keyring from home. The others were so happy. They thought I wouldn't like them, but I do! Then I helped Günther to get out the stuff from the envelope of his Mom. Günther got his traveltag from his Mom. He was so happy! Your Kevin |

Hello Mommy,
another update by car. This time we used the freeway. Hit the gas to get some speed... ...passing a truck... This bridge isn't for cars or people. It's for animals like deers, foxes or boars to go from side of the freeway to the other side. ...free way, hit the gas, reached 160km/h (about 100mph)... ...passing another freeway (interchange)... ...and another interchange... ...arrived in Berlin, this bridge is for the city train. ...traffic jam... ICC - International Congress Center ...on the city-freeway... ...through the city... ...and back the same way... This old tribune belongs to an old race course of the GDR called Avus. So we are traveling on a racetrack! ...passing bridges and trucks... Your Kevin Kiwi |

Alex told us about a problem he has with a mouse. He decided to built a trap and needed our help.
We put some cheese and sausage in the trap. Mice like that. Then we hid ourselves behind a tree and waited. After a while we saw someone in the trap. We caught it!!! We let the trap down and oh... it wasn't a mouse. It was Alex' brother Rudy. We told him about the mouse and the trap and tried it again. We hid ourselves again behind the tree. After a short time there was somebody else in the trap. We caught that creature! When we let the trap down we found just 2 golden coins instead of a mouse or cheese or sausage in the trap. Rudy told us to use some pumpkin seeds, mice would love them. So we did. We went behind the tree and after a short time we saw someone in the trap again. We caught it! Yeah, we could see the feet. We got it! We let the trap down and...what the...just another golden coin?! How could this be??? Alex is confused now! Kevin Kiwi |

Hello Mommy,
today we enjoyed our day at the lake "Gurke" ("cucumber" ). The original name is "Abandoned quarry Golpa II". The lake has a size of 20,94 hectare! It was an opencast for brown coal from 1936 till 1957. Now it is full of groundwater. Lots of people like to swim, do fishing or dive. Some people say that there are old trees under the water, but I don't believe that! At the lake is also a rowing club. Kevin Kiwi |

Hello Mommy,
today we jumped into the car and went to Delitzsch. It's a city in Saxony with about 26,300 inhabitants. First we visited the Baroque Castle with the Lustgarten, former widow of travel and residence of the Dukes of Saxony-Merseburg. This beautiful building is the registration office. The "Breiter Turm" (Wide tower). It's a part of the defensive wall. The City Church of St. Peter & Paul is a brick church of the 15th Century with significant high altar. On our way back home we took some more pictures. Kevin Kiwi |

Hey Mommy,
today the weather was beautiful, so we decided to do a little tour in our car. After a while somebody stopped us. He introduced himself as Flow and asked if he could drive the car. We all were really confused. Alex told us that one of his brothers drove along with Flow few weeks ago. While all seats in our car were filled with us there was no space for that Flow-guy. Alex told him that he's allowed to shift the car. He did it! So we saved lots of energy. Kevin Kiwi |

Hey Mommy,
time for some sightseeing in the German capital. First I saw the German Bundestag which is located in the Reichstag Building. The centrepiece of the building is the generously glazed chamber that is crowned by the dome. A funnel with panes of mirror glass reflects the daylight from above into the chamber. Then I saw one of the most well-known landmarks of Berlin and Germany, the Brandenburg Gate. Near the Brandenburg Gate I found the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as the Holocaust Memorial. It is a memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. It consists of a 19,000 square metres site covered with 2,711 concrete slabs or "stelae", arranged in a grid pattern on a sloping field. The stelae are 2.38 m long, 0.95 m wide and vary in height from 0.2 to 4.8 m. Potsdamer Platz - it is an important public square and traffic intersection in the centre of Berlin. It is named after the city of Potsdam, some 25 km to the south west, and marks the point where the old road from Potsdam passed through the city wall of Berlin at the Potsdam Gate. After developing within the space of little over a century from an intersection of rural thoroughfares into the most bustling traffic intersection in Europe, it was totally laid waste during World War II and then left desolate during the Cold War era when the Berlin Wall bisected its former location. Since German reunification, Potsdamer Platz has been the site of major redevelopment projects. The Sony Center is a Sony-sponsored building complex located at the Potsdamer Platz, opened in 2000. Sony Center contains a mix of shops, restaurants, a conference centre, hotel rooms, luxurious rented suites and condominiums, offices, art and film museums, cinemas, an IMAX theater, a small version of Legoland, and a "Sony Style" store. At its highest point, the roof measures up to 67 meters above the Forum and has a free span of 102 meters length on the main axis and 77 meters length on the ancillary axis. By night the roof changes its colors between pink, red, blue, green... Your Kevin Kiwi |

Hi Mummy,
we took a walk in the afternoon. We are having fantastic weather, although it is rather cold outside, only about 3°C. The first photos were taken when we left the house. Most sidewalks are covered with leaves. We walked downhill to the district Hasten when you can find a lot of old traditional houses. You can find many of those houses which are covered with slate, they usually have green shutters. This is a Patrician villa, built in late 18th century. A museum is situated here. We went further downhill to the bottom of Morsbach valley, one of th oldest parts of the city. You can see the outskirts of the neighbour city Wuppertal. This is Morsbach creek, after which this valley was named. We decided to walk back home than. Soon we reached a housing area. Bye KevinKiwi |

Hi Mummy,
today we met a friend to take a walk in the late morning. The forests are muddy from the rainy weather we had before, so we mostly walked along the streets, this time to the Southern parts of Remscheid. First I'll show you the station area. In the background you can see the city centre. We reached a district with lovely old houses. To get back to "our" part of the city we went into the forest to cross a valley. Hidden in the valley you can find the home of a boy scout group. Almost home Bye Kevin Kiwi |
||
olgamaus Posted Nov 10, 2012, 4:33 pm |
Hi Mummy,
we decided to visit my host's daughter. She is living in another district of Remscheid, a thirty minutes walk away. First we had to walk downhill. Along the steep slopes of the hill you can often find allotment gardens. This is an elementary school. Here you can also find factory buildings among dwellings. Unfortunately it started to rain when we enjoyed a cup of coffee, so there was no further walk. Bye Kevin Kiwi |

olgamaus Posted Nov 15, 2012, 8:04 am |
Hi Mummy,
the weather forecast promised great weather for today, so we decided to take a walk around Muengsten bridge, Germany's highest railway bridge. Muengsten bridge is connecting the cities of Remscheid and Solingen, crossing the valley of river Wupper. We walked through the forest, there are some playgrounds. Here we found those rocking sheep. It only took a short walk to reach the bridge, that means, one of the places where it is fixed to the slope of the valley. The bridge is 465 m long and 107 m tall at its highest point, built in late 19th century. Here you can see the bridge overspanning the valley, river Wupper underneath the bridge. Our path was following the valley, with partly rocks along the way. The first houses of the district Burg came into sight. On the hill opposite of us Schloss Burg was visible, a medieval castle. This district was named after it. Burg is one of several historic districts of Solingen, also in the valley of river Wupper. To get back to the car we walked along the opposite bank of river Wupper, here was the last opportunity to cross the river. We reached the bottom of the valley than. A leisure park was built under the bridge a few years ago. You can find a crazy golf course here, lawns with benches for relaxing, playgrounds for the kids and restaurants. This walk took us more than two hours, much more than we had expected Bye Kevin Kiwi |

olgamaus Posted Nov 23, 2012, 9:37 am |
Hi Mummy,
we are having fantastic weather today, so we took a walk to the municipal park in the afternoon. We came along a large playground. This is the police headquarter, close to the park. There is a pond with ducks and turtles in the park. The municipal park is more or less a landscape park with really old trees. An observatory is also situated in the park. This memorial is dedicated to the dead of several wars earlier than WW I. Is is placed in a rose garden. Of course there is not a single blooming rose left in November. A nursery is also situated in the park, a training company for young people with a poor school diploma or even without any diploma. Now as it became darker it also became cold, so we hurried home. Bye Kevin Kiwi |

Hi Mummy,
it snowed during the night! Katja promised that we would go out later. Kevin Kiwi |
||
olgamaus Posted Dec 7, 2012, 4:25 pm |
We went out about two hours later. Unfortunately it was not cold enough for the snow, it already was melting slowly when we went out. But nontheless we had a lot of fun in the snow. Soon I was wet and cold (hopefully I will not get a cold!)
We walked along the so called "Route of Tools", a former track for freight trains. Many tracks were closed and were built to lanes for pedestrians and cyclists. Remscheid is an industrial city, famous for the tool producing industry here. Building the route was sponsored by local companies, so it was called "Route of Tools". The route is about 5 km long, following the former track from the central station to the district Hasten. You can find a lot of industrial complexes along the route, as well newer ones as historical ones. This complex was a slaughterhouse once. The closer we came to Hasten, the route was crossing more dwellings than industrial sites. Someone is collecting souvenirs from the former railway track You can also find signs with the logos of sponsoring companies here. Later we went home through the municipal park. Bye Kevin Kiwi |

Hi Mummy,
last weekend's snow melted away really soon, but today it started to snow again. Today it is about freezing point outside, so the snow will not melt too soon. We went to the municipal park. Here you can see one of the churches in the city centre. Soon we reached the park. All those snow covered trees and bushes are looking beautiful. I played in the snow with 3*Euro and Suny. Hi Mummy,
on Friday usually two or three friends are visiting us, Katja's knitting friends. Katja prepared eggnogg for her friends. Eggnogg is a popular winter drink in Germany, you can often get it on Christmas markets. To make it you need milk, cream, egg liqueur, rum, triple sec and amaretto. First you have to mix and heat milk, cream and egg liqueur - it must not boil! Than you add the spirits and fill it into glasses. Served hot with whipped cream on top it is perfect Bye Kevin Kiwi |

olgamaus Posted Dec 16, 2012, 9:49 am |
Hi Mummy,
today we made a fantastic trip to Duesseldorf, the capital city of the German state North-Rhine-Westphalia. We went there by train and walked from the station towards the old town with all the Christmas markets. Ah, this is already looking like a larger city. And they do not have snow here. We reached the shopping streets than. A few minutes later we reached the old town. Christmas markets everywhere! You can buy all sorts of Christmas decorations, arts and crafts items, socks, herbs and spices and of course all the traditional food like potatoe pancakes, battered fish, sweets like sugarroasted almonds and nuts, candied fruits, candyfloss and all those hot winter drinks like hot wine punch and eggnogg. We went into shp in this quarter and spend some minutes there. When we came out a miracle had happened - the sun was shining and we had only a few steps to take to reach the river Rhine. We went along the Rhine promenade with lots of bars and restaurants. In the background you can see the Burgplatz with a Ferris wheel. There is a lot of shipping traffic on the rhine, mostly freight ships. We walked closer to the Burgplatz. This pirate ship is a cocktail bar in spring, summer and autumn. We decided to take a walk into the opposite direction, towards the parliament which is situated close to the Rhine. Here you can see the "Rheinkniebrücke", one of three bridges crossing the Rhine in the city area. This is the Rhine Tower, a telecommunications tower, with the Media Harbor in the background. A look back to the old town ... We reached the parliament building than, a fantastic complex situated close to the Rhine promenade. Here you can see an overview photo of it. This is what you see when you look to the South ... ... and to the North. We took a group photo on the lawn in front of the parliament building. We walked around the building. This is the entrance area. Later we went back to the old town to have lunch. Because it is getting dark so early we decided to have lots of fun with eggnogg, beer and mead without taking any more photos Love Kevin Kiwi |

Hi Mummy,
today we met Katja's friend Kerstin and took a walk with her and her dog. We went to Wuppertal, to Scharpenacken, a former army training area. This area was used for military purposes until 2004 A.D as a shooting range. Today there is a local recreation area with vast open areas, but also woodland. The whole area will be renatured in the coming years. A lot of people come here with their dogs to let them run and play. Katja told me that Pepe, the dog, in summer usually is taking a bath in the creek which is running through the meadow. Bye for now Kevin Kiwi |

Hi Mummy,
today we made a trip to the neighbour city Wuppertal. One of the city’s greatest attractions is the suspended monorail (Schwebebahn), which was established in 1901. The tracks are 8 m above the streets and 12 m above the Wupper River. The Schwebebahn is crossing some streets and even a motorway! Inside the station ... Here you can see one of 20 stations along the 13,3 km long route. This one is nearby the local court and district court.It was rebuilt last year in its original historic style. We made a side trip to the Botanical garden because one of the TVs, Suny had a special wish which Katja tried to fulfill. The Botanical garden is situated high upon a hill called "Hardt" and we had to climb stairs after stairs for what felt like an eternity. You can find the former country house of a textile manufacturers named Eller, which contained a villa (built 1820), orangery, residential and farm buildings, and the Elise Tower (built 1838) which provides the garden's focal point. I went into one of the greenhouses and found a banana plant. (Because it was rather cold outside and warm and humid inside, the camera was fogged immediately.) Katja showed me a special tree in the garden, this one. It looks more or less like a dangerous animal, but not like a tree. It is a monkey puzzle tree, (Araucaria araucana). It originally came from South America, from Chile and Western Argentinia. Due to similar climate conditions it can grow here. Because a Botanical garden is not so exciting in winter we walked back to the city centre because we had only about 90 minutes until it would get dark. Walking stairs downhill was much more fun In the city centre we recognized that Wuppertal is much larger than Remscheid. The pretty city hall was hidden behind a scaffolding. We saw the Schwebebahn again, next to a bank and a car park. Here you can see one of the other stations, a modern one this time. Later we met Katja's daughter here and we spend some hours in the shopping streets. Bye Kevin Kiwi |

Hi Mummy,
the weather is still ugly, nobody wants to go outside. Instead we helped Katja to prepare a veggie dinner. First we fried zucchini and dryed tomatoes in a pan and added tomatoe sauce. Than we prepared feta to scallop the vegetables with it. My host has funny placemats! We cut the remaining feta into pieces and fillend them into a jar with garlic, herbs, spices and dried tomatoes. We filled the jar with olive oil than to preserve the cheese. Unfortunately I will not be able to try it. It has to rest for at least one week, but I will leave tomorrow! Love Kevin Kiwi |

Hi Mummy,
we went to Katja's sister-in-law's family today to celebrate the last day of the year. When we arrived, there already was everything prepared for Raclette. There were lots of vegetables like sweet pepper, carrots, mushrooms, tomatoes, than there was beef and chicken meat, prawn, bread, potatoes and much more. Of course there was a lot of cheese Later we called a tile-based game called "Rummikub". Do you know it? Happy New Year! Iit was raining the whole time, so the fireworks did not show up as nice as they could have had. Love Kevin Kiwi |

Sir Jim and I went on a cool adventure to the Minnesota Historic Society.
We saw the Open House Exhibit, if these walls could talk was about the life stories of families, from the first German immigrants through the Italians, African-Americans, and Hmong who succeeded them, are told through rooms representing different eras of the house. Visitors become detectives, piecing together lives of the families who lived at 470 Hopkins Street. When you visit the "U.S.-Dakota War of 1862” exhibit at the History Center, you'll examine the evidence, hear heart-wrenching stories and learn about the broken treaties and promises that led to this disastrous chapter in Minnesota history. The war ended with hundreds dead, the Dakota people exiled from their homeland and the largest mass execution in U.S. history: the hangings of 38 Dakota men in Mankato on Dec. 26, 1862. 2012 marks 150 years since the U.S.-Dakota War. It was waged for six weeks in southern Minnesota over the late summer of 1862, but the war’s causes began decades earlier and the profound loss and consequences of the war are still felt today. There are many, often conflicting, interpretations of events relating to the war. “The U.S.-Dakota War of 1862” exhibit includes multiple viewpoints as well as historical and contemporary voices. Visitors are encouraged to make up their own minds about what happened and why, to discuss what they are seeing and learning, and to leave comments. Descendants of people involved in the war have taken an active role in shaping the exhibit. Exhibits staff have met with Dakota people from throughout Minnesota, the Upper Midwest and Canada and with settler descendants from the Minnesota River Valley region to solicit research advice and comb through original documents, letters, diaries, artifacts and other historical sources to assemble a narrative of what happened. These meetings with descendants are part of a broader initiative called a “truth recovery” project. We really wanted to see this exhibit but it's not going on yet! Fun Stuff going on next!! =) Much Love, Kevin Kiwi |

Hämeenlinna
My host is a postcrosser and today there was a big meet-up in Hämeenlinna. We went there with friends. Early in the morning we met at the railway station (but did not take a train, one friend was driving). Morning was sunny and foggy and absolutely beautiful! In Hämeenlinna we bought lots of postcards and collected together with over 30 people to write all the cards. I met many postcrossers, including traveling_teddy I also met some geocachers, the frog belonged to one of them. We ate in one restaurant -oh, how I was hungry! While driving we saw a little bit of this town (missed the castle ) and headed home... Kevin Kiwi |

The tradition of Saint Nicholas Day, on 6 December (19 December in most Orthodox countries), is a festival for children in many countries in Europe related to surviving legends of Saint Nicholas, and particularly his reputation as a bringer of gifts. The American Santa Claus, as well as the British Father Christmas, derive from these legends. I found a gift sock behind my calendar door today. Independence Day Today it is a national holiday in Finland since they are celebrating the Independence Day. Today is a music day! Many times before we have been singing. Today once again we went to a church to sing "The most beautiful Christmas carols". And the singing went on at home... We also wanted to listen to music. We chose among some of my host's Christmas CDs (she has tens of them!). And we chose Michael Bublé Kevin Kiwi |

December 23rd
Today we cleaned rest of the home and decorated it for Christmas. Lots of work, no stress Host loves Finnish glass design, one of them is called KIVI : https://www.iittala.com/Series/Iittala/Festivo/c/Festivo https://www.iittala.com/Series/Iittala/Kastehelmi/c/Kastehelmi https://www.iittala.com/Series/Iittala/Kivi/c/Kivi In the evening we were having our traditional GLÖGI-ILTA (evening with mulled wine -and if you are wondering... our mulled wine is non-alcoholic ) Family members perform different program (acting, singing, playing instruments, telling jokes, asking riddles...). The favorite thing that happens is that everyone gets a scratch card and tries to win large sum of money Sorry, no luck this year. Again. And when everything was ready, we decorated a tiny Christmas tree (bought from IKEA, do you remember?) and brought the gifts near the tree. Yes, already today... There is another tradition in this funny, Christmas crazy family Kevin Kiwi |

St. Stephen's Day
The most well known tradition linked to the day is "the ride of Stephen's Day" which refers to a sleigh ride with horses. Because we have no horse, no sleigh and no snow we made our ride by car We went to the Kuokkala Bridge and harbor. The lake is still almost free from ice. We went on and came to the Fairytale Park Peukkula. It was closed but we saw the houses... Finally we went to feed the ducks Kevin Kiwi |

Hello Mum,
I arrived in Sülfeld. Dicker Kumpel gave me a warm welcome. Then he introduced me to his other guests here. I showed the postcard I brought with me. We talked a lot – I will write more soon. Love Kevin Kiwi |
||
RikeH Posted Feb 2, 2014, 11:23 am |
Hello Mum,
The winter came to Sülfeld, so we had to take photos with some snow. Let’s start with this archaeological monument. Some children wanted to use their sleighs behind me, but I think there was not enough snow. Well – no sunshine on my stone, but I loved the light on the old school. And the emblem of Sülfeld is beautiful, too. My last stop was next to the church. A wonderful photo with a little snow and the sunshine. I love the wintertime! Yours Kevin Kiwi |
||
RikeH Posted Feb 4, 2014, 11:39 am |
Hello Mum,
Today we had great weather, so we explored the surroundings of Sülfeld. What a wonderful sky with beautiful clouds! But to tell the truth – it was really cold! What a long way – maybe I should have stayed at home? Fortunately we found a sunny place for a rest. I loved this place – with a far view. Well, of course there are not really big hills here in Northern Germany. And the small river here was nice, too. The last photo shows me and Dicker Kumpel’s famous tree. Nice! What a wonderful walk! Yours Kevin Kiwi |

Hello Mum,
Today I went to Hamburg – this lake is called Alster. Behind me you can see the town hall. And this is another nice view over the Alsterarkaden. Look – what a beautiful postbox. Here you can see the town hall again – a beautiful building. Love Kevin Kiwi |
||
RikeH Posted Feb 17, 2014, 8:29 pm |
Hello Mum,
We went to the port of Hamburg today. I had a nice view from a place called Landungsbrücken. What a nice tower. On the other side of the Elbe River there are two musical halls – the left one is really new. Behind me you can see the sailing ship Rickmer Rickmers. Then we had a great idea – we jumped onto a small ferry to the building Elbphilharmonie. I had a nice view over the Elbe River. Hamburg’s port is really beautiful. We came near to the both musical halls. Me in front of the skyline of the port. This is the Elbphilharmonie – a very expensive building. I looked to another part of the port – the cruise terminal – but there is no cruise ship today. And here is the part where they load and unload big ships. It was a nice trip for us TVs, RikeH had a hard time, because it was really cold – and her fingers got so cold! Yours Kevin Kiwi |

Hello Mum,
Many greetings from the Cruise Ship AIDA Sol. We celebrated the start of our trip with delicious Champagne. Today we started our day on our balcony. It was enough place for all of us and we talked a lot. This is the view to the front of the ship – yes we are living in the front of the ship – just over the bridge. There you can see the front of the ship. On a cruise ship you spend a lot of time with eating – so it was time for some sports. We have a Power Plate in our cabin. First RikeH explained us how it works. Then it started to shake… …and we had to train our arms. After that it was time to relax in the living-room. This is the place where I write my updates. And here I am sleeping – in the morning I can see the sea out of my bed – this is great! Love Kevin Kiwi |
||
RikeH Posted Feb 28, 2014, 7:50 pm |
Hello Mum,
We are in Africa and went to a small city called Asilah. Behind me you see a religious building. This was another tower… … next to a nice place. Next to the city there is a long beach – many children played soccer there. This is the door to a palace, but we were not allowed to visit it. Later we had this nice view over the city – but it was very windy. My last photo shows a big wall – there were many of them here in Asilah. Love Kevin Kiwi |

Hello Mum,
Yesterday we went to Lissabon. It was noon when we saw the city. I saw the tower of Belem and the famous monument. There was a big bridge over the Rio Tejo. Today was an exciting day – we had a TV-meeting. It was great to sit together and talk! Poschti came on the Cruise with us so we had a welcome party this evening. We had chocolate and fruits. And I had my own bottle of Coke. Then we all took one piece of fruit and one piece of chocolate. It was a nice party, but then we were tired and went into our TV-bed. Good night, Mum! Kevin Kiwi |
||
RikeH Posted Mar 4, 2014, 10:52 am |
Hello Mum,
After a bumpy trip from Lissabon we arrived in La Coruna. Because of the stormy weather we will stay here for two days. Today we took a walk. Behind me you can see the harbor. There were many small fisherboats. From this point we had a good view of our Cruise Ship – it is really tall, isn’t it? There was a fortress – nowadays it is a museum. We saw big waves – maybe it is a good idea to stay a little longer in this town? Believe it or not – only some steps from the water I found this sunny place with the beautiful flowers. These houses with the balconies with glass in front of it are typical for La Coruna. This is the town hall – really nice. Back on the ship I stood on the balcony – can you see the fortress behind me – there we went. And I want to show you this – every evening we got these chocolates – a Cruise is wonderful. Yours Kevin Kiwi |
||
RikeH Posted Mar 16, 2014, 12:17 pm |
Hello Mum,
I told you about the bumpy trip to la Coruna. We took some photos of it, but I forgot to update it. So here can you see me and my friends looking out of the window. Here you can see nothing from the rough sea… But now you can see more – the waves! I went onto the balcony and saw the waves on the side of the ship. Today the weather was much nicer! Later I went onto the pool-deck. There was a big screen on the deck! Here you can see the name of the cruise line. Love Kevin Kiwi |

Bonjour Mum,
It was time for a new country – this time we were in France. We arrived in Le Havre. The architect here loved concrete - you see it everywhere. We wanted to see a nicer town and went to Honfleur. There was a beautiful harbor! We went into a big wooden church. Here you can see the tower of it. There were many old buildings in the town. Later we continued our trip and went to Deauville. This is the promenade next to the beach. The clothing rooms are named after famous movie stars. We walked along the beach – it was wonderful! There were funny houses in the city. Au revoir Kevin Kiwi |

Hello Mum,
Today was our last day on the AIDA Sol. I walked over the sun deck again – very sunny! This is the theatre inside the ship. This is one of many bars on the ship. Hopefully the weather will be nice tomorrow, because we want to have nice views when we arrive in Hamburg. Love Kevin Kiwi |

Hello Mum,
Great news Mum, we had lovely weather when we arrived in Hamburg. It was so great to arrive in the port on the Elbe River. Will I see a nice sunrise? Yes, there it was! Far behind me you see a big bridge. Hamburg is a really beautiful city! There were two theaters for musicals – the left one is not open yet. We spent our last hours on the ship relaxing on our balcony. It was a really wonderful cruise. We should do one together soon, Mum. Love Kevin Kiwi |

Hello Mum,
Back in Germany we had lovely weather, so today it was time for a walk. The nature starts now – because it is springtime. It was nice to sit in the sunshine with my friends. Soon there will be some swans on the lake. We came along another beautiful small lake. This is Dicker Kumpel’s famous tree. We all have to take photos with it every time we see it. Back home we saw the German flag. This stone stood in front of Dicker Kumpel’s house. Look, the first flowers arrived! Yours Kevin Kiwi |

Hi Mum,
We went to a small town called Bad Oldesloe. This is the biggest church here. I went into it – there were colorful windows. I met two wooden men. There was a big organ. Sadly nobody was there to play it. Then I came to a nice water wheel. I learnt a lot about it on this sign. Yours Kevin Kiwi |
||
RikeH Posted Apr 8, 2014, 2:30 pm |
Hello Mum,
The weather was great today, so we played in the garden. Dicker Kumpel is a great gardener and I want to show you some of his flowers. I loved this forest of yellow flowers! These flowers were so nice, too. Blue flowers are great, too. Springtime is one of the best time of the year! Yours Kevin Kiwi |

RikeH Posted Apr 13, 2014, 11:50 am |
Hello Mum,
It was time for some sports – and we decided to play billiards. Dicker Kumpel explained the rules. He showed us how to play. Then it was my time. It was so much fun! Fortunately I won with 5:4. Then I explored the room. A horse lived here in the Past, I guess. Then I tried to call you, but maybe you were not at home. Love Kevin Kiwi |
||
RikeH Posted Apr 21, 2014, 3:57 pm |
Hello Mum,
Dicker Kumpel received a game from his friend Murph – and today we wanted to play it. There were some chocolate bars with photos of wild animals on it. Well – a nice game – looking at photos. But it was not that easy. They were turned on the wrong side and you can turn two. If they were the same photos you won the chocolate, if not you turn it again – and search new pairs, when it’s your turn. First I found two different animals. But then I followed my instincts and smell at the cards. I found two that had the smell of a big cat. I was right! Two lions! When we finished the game I was really good with one pair – hopefully you are proud of me, Mum! Dicker Kumpel who won the most pairs shared two pieces of chocolate with us. It was yummy, Mum! Love Kevin Kiwi |
||
fleursmum Posted Apr 21, 2014, 11:05 pm |
Well done Kevin Kiwi!! I am proud that you matched the cats!! I hope you enjoyed the chocolate!
Love and hugs Your Mum xxooxx |

Hello Mum,
Happy Easter! Today it is the Day of the Bunnies! We all sat in the sunshine and waited for RikeH. She arrived and told us that the Easter Bunny has been here – and we could start searching for some sweets! I found some chocolate! But can you find me on the photo? Here I am! Then we went to another part of the garden – here we should have a race for eggs. We all were ready to run! Look – I have no idea why, but I won! Later we found this great plant – chocolate lollipops are growing in it! A great place! This was the first part of Easter – tomorrow we will meet the Eater Bunny! Love Kevin Kiwi |
||
RikeH Posted Apr 23, 2014, 8:15 pm |
Hello Mum,
Today was an exciting day, too. We went to visit Dicker Kumpel’s grandma. Many bunnies were living there. I would love to send you these beautiful flowers! And I met these chicken – I think they worked hard for Easter. Maybe these were the children of the chicken? Then I met the Easter Bunny. This was so great – it was very nice and friendly. When we came back to Dicker Kumpel’s home we went into the garden and saw two beautiful trees. Yours Kevin Kiwi |

RikeH Posted May 17, 2014, 2:43 pm |
Hello Mum,
We went to another village today – called Grabau. There we saw a lot of big stones and learnt a lot about their history. Behind me you can see one of the big stones. We rested on another stone. Then we went into the forest – time for a kind of safari. We will go into this house and look for wild animals. There was a deer. And a bunny! Far away! And I found a small animal? Well – where is it? There it is. You remember that I saw a bunny – I went closer – and it was a friendly bunny! I even met a boar – he was huge! We continued our walk and went to a nice lake – the Hohendammer Mühlenteich. I learnt a lot about the animals here, too. Many bird live here – maybe we will see some. We were really quiet and saw some nice birds. What a great place! Yours Kevin Kiwi |

Hello Mum,
Today was a great day – Murph and his guests will come and visit us. We waited. Then they arrived. It was great to see them all. Murph brought gifts for all of us! Wonderful! Dicker Kumpel planned a game for us - how exciting! He explained the rules. We played with the die. Everyone who has a six put the cap and the scarf on like this. Then he or she was allowed to ‘fight’ with the wrapped chocolate. This seems to be funny. Let’s start. I threw the dice – unfortunately no 6… The next time there was a 6 – I took the cap and the scarf – and here I go. After the game we all ate sweets – yummy! It was a funny day! Kevin Kiwi |

Hello Mum,
I went to Hamburg today. Here you see me next to the lake Alster in the middle of Hamburg Next to it I saw the town hall – a nice building. Maybe you see the cars of the firefighters? There was a big meeting of young firefighters in the town. Many swans are living here. Here you see the town hall again. Love Kevin Kiwi |

Hello, I arrived in Beijing!!!
This gate is quite beautiful, maybe I've seen such building somewhere in China Town or on TV. It's so hot here, super truly hot, feel like my feathers are burning under the sun. But I still wanna go advanture in this place, think about what do they have on the other side of the gate.. Let me check the site map first.. |

After around 43 hours train we finally arrived in Lhasa!!!
It was 3757m in total, and I do feel a bit altitude sick.. Think about it, the altitude is only 50m back in Beijing I saw the magnificent Potala Palace, which is definitely the highest building in Lhasa. Dear mum, I also went to local postoffice, and then we took a stroll around Potala Palace. |

We were just going to explore a little bit of the old town, surprisely found that the Exquisite Exhibition of the Second China Thangka was hold in a historic yard!!! Fancy the lovely tea house which is located in an old temple, have a cup of sweet buttered tea and enjoy your fresh day.

Passing through the gate of Mia's work place, we saw the Military Museum, went on to the cross roads on the west, the not that tall architecture is the old CCTV building, most people might know the new one which is located in CBD, also well-known for its pants-shape appearence. Followed by the Chinese Century Altar, a photo exhibition was held inside. Oh that was Vivisn Maier... We finally arrived to the river bank, the river itself looks bluer because of the sky. Mia said the metal bridge reminded her of Tyne Bridge, do you think they look similar? The under the bridge picture was under the 3rd ring road of Beijing |

Finally the time has come!
We made a trip for 4 days to South-Tyrol in Italy! This is our hotel „Bergschloessel“ in Luson near the city of Bressanone. It’s a little village in the UNESCO World Heritage from the Dolomites. Our room is under the roof. The highest room in the hotel. Our room. It’s not really an oven. It’s an oven with a remote control. But it’s crackles! Bathroom with a big whirlpool. View into the valley. I love it! The pool. Host mum said, it’s cold water but the view is fantastic. The inside pool with warm water. |
