My host's mum's house, England - 6th April 2012
By: miapearl
Hi Mum,
It is my host's birthday soon, and my host's mum doesn't live too far away from LittleBlogFrog
So, we hijacked my host's toyvoyagers account and decided to contact LittleBlogFrog for help with presents.
We wrote a message to her asking her to meet us at King's Lynn the next day, to see if she has any ideas what my host would like.

Vienna, Austria - 24th April 2012
By: marcie08
Hello World,
I have arrived here in Austria. I was welcomed by Elmo, who sang a song for me! We had a nice chat and then he showed me a postcard from creamsheep who is my host mom's own tv!
I am exploring my surroundings now!

Vienna, Austria - 27th April 2012
By: marcie08
Hi Mom!
Today we went to Schönbrunn Palace, which is a UNESCO World heritage Site in Vienna. It is the place where the former Habsburg Emperors lived during the summer time.
As you can see, the Palace is huge. It is surrounded by a beautiful park, with lovely flower beds and a rose garden. The roses need a little more time to bloom, but my host mom told me that it soon will be beautiful. There are also many squirrels running around.
Opposite the castle is another building that is called Gloriette. There is a café inside where you can enjoy a slice of cake.
It was a bright and sunny day today, so I really enjoyed the sightseeing. My feet hurt a little, so I rested on a bench and had a look at all the other visiting tourists!
Servus (is a traditional greeting here in Vienna for people you are friends with)!

Vienna, Austria - 28th April 2012
By: marcie08
Hi Mom!
Today we went to an Amusement Park "Prater". There is the Riesenrad and other things you can ride with, also ghost trails and other stuff.
But first we went to a restaurant there, called "Schweizerhaus" (Swiss house). I have no idea why it is called Swiss house, no connection to Switzerland as far as Mom knows...now we have looked it up in wikipedia, if you are interested, follow the link!
It is traditional to eat roast pork knuckle there with mustard and horse radish, accompanied by a Budweiser beer from Czech Republic.
Later we took a ride with the Vienna Riesenrad (Giant Wheel) and had a look over the city! How big the city is! The Giant Wheel is really old! Before boarding one of the coaches, we went to the little exhibition where you can see historic scenes from Prater and the Giant Wheel, for exampel how it looked like after WWII, when it was almost completely destroyed.

Wachau, Austria - 29th April 2012
By: marcie08
Hi Mom!
Today we went to a part of Austria that is called "Wachau". It is a valley formed by Danube river and a UNESCO World Heritage Landscape.
We visited Abbey Melk - it has been renovated lately and is a beautiful building. We went through the state rooms there and also visited the church.
Then we had lunch and drove on along the Danube river where we watched the boats cruising. Along the river is also a place called Willensdorf. This is the place where the Venus of Willensdorf was found. The Venus is a petite statuette made approx 24.000 - 22.000 BCE and can now be visited at the Museum of Natural History of Vienna.
That was another wonderful day, with bright sunshine and an all time temperature record of 31,2°C in April! On the way home I napped in the card.
We also bought a few souvenirs among others also products made of Wachauer Marille (apricot), which is a speciality of the Wachau region.

Stadtpark, Vienna, Austria - 12th May 2012
By: marcie08
Hi Mom!
Today we went to the Stadtpark, a park in Vienna. There was a food-festival called "Genussfestival". Food stalls from all over Austria offered their treats: wine, cheese, ham, bacon, fruit juice, jam...
Wow, there was almost too much to choose from
I decided on a bacon and salami bread finally!
That was yummi!
Unfortunately the weather was really bad, so we went home a little earlier. On our way we passed a statue of Johan Strauss (son), member of the famous Viennese composer dynasty.
Servus!
