Sibelius Hall / Lahti, Finland - 4th March 2012
By: sirkku-susanna
Hi Mom!
Guess what? I was in the book fair with my host. Lahti book fair is much much smaller event than Helsinki Book fair, but quite nice anyway. And I got the chance to see famous concert hall The Sibelius Hall.
Quote: | The Sibelius Hall (Finnish: Sibeliustalo) is a concert hall in Lahti, Finland, named after the composer Jean Sibelius. The concert hall was completed in 2000. Architects Kimmo Lintula and Hannu Tikka designed the hall, which is made of wood. The acoustics were engineered by Artec Consultants, New York. Its acoustics are one of its strongest points, while the architecture follows the Scandinavian tradition of sophisticated design. The concert hall has a capacity of 1,250 seats. The Sibelius Hall is home to the Lahti Symphony Orchestra. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sibelius_Hall. |
We have fun and Susanna bought books (even thought she don’t know, where to put them). She also bought pack of tarot cards. So now we are learning to make “prophecies”…
Hugs to you Mom!

Lahti, on the lake, Finland - 12th March 2012
By: sirkku-susanna
Hi Mom!
It has been veeeeeery quiet around here, my host has either been at work or studying. But yesterday weather was nice, so we decided, it was time to get some fresh air. We walked to lake nearby. You might have seen pictures of that lake in others Voyagers travel logs. Susanna asked me, if I want to walk on ice. And of course I wanted. Look how far from beach we walked. Actually it’s not dangerous at all, ice is still quite thick (but it’s getting thinner and thinner). After our walk, I played at snow again. I even built a little snowman, very nice, don’t you think?
Next Sunday Susanna is working alone at her department and she asked me to come with her and keep her company. So “see you at work”
Kisses Mom!

Lahti Music Library, Finland - 19th March 2012
By: sirkku-susanna
Hello!
Yesterday was very interesting and busy day. I went to work with my host. My host works at music library. Mom, I have never seen so many CD’s. Susanna told me, that they have about 44 000 CD’s all together. I even found some old German music. They have lots of books related to music and sheet music too. They also have two soundproof piano rooms, where patrons can practice playing. But Mom, if we ever get a piano, can it be little smaller? I also take a quick look downstairs, where all the books are.
At coffee break, we of course have my favorite snack. If you take a close look at coffee mug, you can see character from popular Finnish comic; Cursing Hedgehog. Comic is about Ostrobothnian hedgehog, who is always very angry, but also very funny. This Friday we are heading Seinäjoki at Ostrobothnia, maybe I meet Cursing Hedgehog….
Love you Mom!

Seinäjoki, Finland - 26th March 2012
By: sirkku-susanna
Hi Mom!
Last Friday my host took me with her to Seinäjoki, where she visits once a month to do her studies. We have quite a busy day, but we manage to take couple of photos. You can see me front of Seinäjoki railway station and also our train. It takes about three hours to travel from Lahti to Seinäjoki. And of course we took a photo at Susanna’s school. Last photo you can see (if you take a close look) famous church called Lakeuden Risti. We both were really tired, when we finally got back home. It’s raining here, spring is coming.
Love you Mom!
Twixx
PS: Didn’t see any hedgehogs, they all are still hibernating even the Cursing one.

Seinäjoki, Finland - 9th April 2012
By: sirkku-susanna
Hi Mom!
Last Thursday we went to Seinäjoki…to study…again. I will be very educated soon, and be able start to work at our local library Mom. I’m also quite familiar with railroad system here in Finland. And now here are few photos of our travel. First Seinäjoki railway station from other angle, then inside the waiting room. I had my own seat at train, although I didn’t pay for the ticket. My host also tried to take picture of landscape, but the train was moving too fast. One picture from Lahti railway station. At home, we got treats; cake pops yummy!
Love you Mom!

PS: In next update you will see how much we ate at Eastern…

Lahti, Finland - 15th April 2012
By: sirkku-susanna
Hi Mom!
First my host wants to apologize, because we haven’t update sooner. She had little problems with internet connections. But here are pictures of our Eastern holiday. We didn’t do anything special, but relaxed and had good food. Well…at Easter Sunday we had meal like this; lamb, garlic potatoes and blackcurrant jam. I didn’t like to eat lamb (Susanna quite understand that). But potatoes and jam were good. Susanna really is no friend of Finnish deserts mämmi (you understand why, if you google pictures of mämmi) or pasha. But she loves pastries and chocolate, so we had lots of those. Even this bunny, which was bigger than me. I like those little chocolate figures more. Almost all snow is gone and it’s raining a lot. Hope we can go outside soon.
Love you Mom!

Tampere, Finland - 11th May 2012
By: sirkku-susanna
Hello there!
While you read this I’m already way to my next host. But here are few photos of my last trip with Susanna. We went to Tampere, work related trip this time. We haven’t much time to take pictures, but here is couple. First Lahti bus station. Yes, we went by bus this time. Then Tampere main library called Metso (capercaillie). And then view from bridge of Tammerkoski. Trip was busy and bus is not as comfortable as train, but it was nice to take quick look of Tampere.
Last time from Finland Twixx.

Portmeirion, Wales - 12th May 2012
By: miapearl
Hello Mum,
This is going to be a long update with many photos! Today, we went to Portmeirion, an italianette village used in the 1960s cult TV series, The Prisoner. The village was designed by Clough Ellis, and most of the buildings have Grade II listed status.
This is the Gate House.
This is a mural inside the Gate House arch, painted by Hans Nathan Feibusch from Germany.
We descended down some steps by the Gate House.
That's the Hotel on the beach.
We are inside the grotto.
The Observatory Tower is down there by the sea.
A look along the coast.
There's the hotel and the Observatory Tower again.
A view from the shore up to the village.
Admiral Nelson!
A view next to the Observatory Tower.
We walked back via the woodland trail, coming across a stump with tuppence pieces in it.
It looks quite pretty!
This is the Lighthouse
A pond and the Mermaid.
There's the Bell Tower.
The Bristole Colonnade, and The Pantheon (the Green Dome, in The Prisoner where Number 2 could often be found).
This is the Piazza, with the building at the end called The Gloriette.
Another view of the Bristol Colonnade.
The Bell Tower again.
Another statue.
View from near the Pantheon, of the Bell Tower and other buildings.
St Peter is on the balcony of the Toll House.
The Pantheon is up there.
The Colonnade again. And now it is time to go home.

Message from home!
Dear Twixx, today we received a package from your first host, jo_mlp.
There were a lot of souvenirs inside. I think you will remember them!
Look, your "Guckauge", the little shimmering ball, your sanding block and the little flags.
And .... a little football for you, my dear!
Are you happy, I think so
Yours in Love, Mummy
