Toulouse, France - 27th February 2008

By: Mistigree

Please, let me get out of the envelope Mistigree !!!

Poor me, I arrived on Monday in an appropriate envelope reflecting my mood (HUNGRY), after spending 3 months of diet with Minutepapillon. I thought Mistigree would have fed me as soon as I arrived in Toulouse, but I was mistaken. She doesn’t want to make me free until she had bought a padlock to put on her fridge’s door (Stargazer advised her to do so…), I’m starving !! I’m going to decline if I don’t eat now !!

Toulouse, France - 4th March 2008

By: Mistigree

Mistigree finally let me get out of my tiny envelope some days after my arrival. It was such a relief to see the daylight again !
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2321/2305853786_94ac440c2d.jpg?v=0

But what a disappointment when I saw that she really listened to Stargazer's advice... Look, she padlocked the door's fridge to avoid me to steal food !!!
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3232/2305056569_0506231436.jpg?v=0

It is really well padlocked for a little guy as me... If only I had muscles to open it, but I only have grease !
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2306/2305853986_c7eed7e1d0.jpg?v=0

Let's see the store cupboards then !..... OH NO !!! They are also padlocked !!
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2409/2305057783_b626189210.jpg?v=0

And it is the same thing for the cookies box !! Poor me !! Where the hell I've been sent ??!

Toulouse, France - 6th March 2008

By: Mistigree

This night, while Mistigree was sleeping, I discreetly rummaged in her flat's cupboards to find her set of tools...
Once I found it, I tried to open the fridge padlock with a screwdriver...
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2380/2305854606_f330e8d7bd.jpg?v=0

It did not work, therefore I took a hammer but I was afraid to do too much noise, banging on the padlock...
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2382/2305854742_cb3c929cdd.jpg?v=0

A hacksaw seemed then to be a perfect tool, but soon I had cramps in my hands and needed to stop sawing.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2086/2305057265_cba16155c4.jpg?v=0

At the end, I found pincers in the set of tools and I pressed them as hard as I could to try to open this padlock !
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3007/2305057123_d3c27e4d51.jpg?v=0

HURRAH !! IT WORKED !!!! I broke the padlock !!
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3044/2305855396_9e31dff565.jpg?v=0

Let's see what's in the fridge now...

Toulouse, France - 6th March 2008

By: Mistigree

At the top of Mistigree's fridge, I could see the place where Snegovik slept when he was here ! How freezy it was !!
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3039/2341437072_a9a5840a72.jpg?v=0

Mistigree's fridge was not very full... just some butter, beetroots, veggie pancakes, strange meals made of tofu, yogurts and eggs... Nothing very attractive for me...
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2303/2319457936_1963a322cb.jpg?v=0

At the bottom, there were only vegetables : carrots, lettuce and radish. Oh poor me... Is Mistigree only eating vegetables ?
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3126/2318647339_71c5955357.jpg?v=0

I prefered to explore the cupboards !! The first one only contained grains, cereals and leguminous plants...
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2150/2318647685_42d6ea02e8.jpg?v=0

But the second one seemed more interesting !
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3135/2318647093_af252b7dba.jpg?v=0

I found some packaged little cakes called "nonnettes" that aroused my interest and my appetite above all !! They are made of honey and filled in with bilberries !! I couldn't resist : I opened the box and began to eat them !
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2265/2340603035_6c3e1181cb.jpg?v=0

Unfortunately Mistigree heard me munching and she came to catch me ! She seemed very anry against me...
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3284/2341437360_56a0067dca.jpg?v=0

She took me to her bathroom and put me down on her scales... 5,3 kilos... She told me it was too much for a little ToyVoyager as me... and she will look after what I'm going to eat here...

Toulouse, France - 9th March 2008

By: Mistigree

Mistigree received an URGENT envelope some days ago...
It was not about food unfortunately, but about elections !! Indeed today the French had to vote for 2 elections : 1 for the council of the department and the other to choose the new mayor of each town.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2197/2348711516_0330a28518.jpg?v=0

In the envelope there were all the candidate's leaflets explaining what they were going to do (in theory...!!) if they were elected. Tere are many different parties in France and I it was so boring to read all the leaflets !! Hopefully, Mistigree already knew who's she was going to vote for and I did not need to help her to choose the candidate !
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3140/2348711744_906c5d941f.jpg?v=0

Mistigree showed me her elector's card (you can see this woman "Marianne" on it, who is one of the symbol of France, representing freedom, equality and fraternity).
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3231/2347879753_6a88e94c9b.jpg?v=0

We went then to the place where the vote took place. We couldn't get lost because there were boards with elections posters everywhere around !
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2058/2348710726_8f46871dd4.jpg?v=0

Let's go to the vote station now ! Just follow the sign !
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2154/2348710966_6fc0a45cb1.jpg?v=0

Once in the polling booth, Mistigree let me put the paper of the party she choose for the council election in the envelope, while she was putting the one for the mayor.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2285/2347880197_f1d7395d15.jpg?v=0

I am so proud !! I think I'm the first ToyVoyager who has voted for a real election ever !! That merited a good meal and when we came back home, Mistigree prepared a beetroot salad with corn, apples, shallot and ham !

Toulouse, France - 16th March 2008

Today, it was the second ballot to elect the new mayor of Toulouse and we had the choice between those 2 candidates : Jean-Luc Moudenc (the present mayor) and Pierre Cohen.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3089/2347879961_0a2831f796.jpg?v=0

Mistigree let me vote again, I'm a professional now !
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2277/2347879641_33f94c12ae.jpg?v=0

In the evening we watched the results on TV !! HURRAH !! Pierre Cohen won against Jean-Luc Moudenc !! That may be a good thing for Toulouse told me Mistigree, but to tell you the truth I don't really care about all that !!
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2361/2348711212_4fd150d519.jpg?v=0

I was more interested in the meal Mistigree prepared : it was lentils and carrots with kasha (kasha is roasted buckwheat). Mistigree is not veggie but she prefers not to eat so much meat and she wanted me to taste a veggie meal... hum not 100% veggie because there was ham too !

Toulouse, France - 17th March 2008

By: Mistigree

Today, a strange Russian box arrived. As I thought it could maybe be some caviar, I was very excited !!
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3064/2349639465_8c57e76d69.jpg?v=0

In fact, it was just Tiger Tom !!
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2278/2350472752_7995a095df.jpg?v=0

He was hungry and of course I was too ! Therefore I decided to cook a meal by myself. I first peeled some carrots.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2363/2348695458_d847bb5197.jpg?v=0

And then some onions. As it made my eyes water, I put sunglasses on my nose, it was better like that !
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3211/2347864127_b23684dd6d.jpg?v=0

I first made some kamut (a kind of organic wheat) brown in olive oil with the onions.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3169/2348695720_a11ac29ab6.jpg?v=0

I then added the carrots, some water and curry that goes well with carrots.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2112/2347864295_bc1ecf6be5.jpg?v=0

Look at the result !! It was so yummy that I finally did not share with Tiger Tom at all !!

Toulouse, France - 19th March 2008

By: Mistigree

Mistigree taught me how to make bread today (she's fond of it and likes to try new recipes).
First we made what is called a poolish. It is just a mix of 1/2 flour, 1/2 liquid (usually water or milk, depending of what kind of bread you're cooking) and a little bit of yeast. You have to let this mix rest some hours and then you can use it as a kind of leaven. It is a very strange texture and it makes some bubbles when the mix is ready to be used !
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2090/2347869983_a323834c09.jpg?v=0

I prepared the ingredients : corn flour, soya milk (it is the first time Mistigree cooked a bread with soya milk), olive oil, salt and some sugar too.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2306/2348701330_2bb2466f48.jpg?v=0

Then I added the poolish and some linseeds.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2312/2347869867_8f123794ba.jpg?v=0

What a hard work to knead the dough !!
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2353/2348701658_8eb7aeec07.jpg?v=0

I succeeded in making 3 equal balls that we let rest about 1 hour.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2049/2348701958_8fd58d09ed.jpg?v=0

Then I spread some water on the dough with a brush so that the linseeds can stick on the top.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2208/2348701766_a03c492857.jpg?v=0

Let's bake it now for about 30 minutes !
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3102/2347870285_0c62a0d3d6.jpg?v=0

And you have a beautiful and excellent soya-corn bread !!
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2288/2347870509_2058a6723f.jpg?v=0

It tasted it when it was still hot and it was delicious !

Ger, France - 24th March 2008

By: Mistigree

This week-end, we went to Mistigree's parents house for Easter. Hum ? Easter... that means chocolate !!!!
Mistigree offered a giant chocolate egg to Tiger Tom, and nothing for me... She told me it was for my diet programm...
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2217/2390180367_530a691882.jpg?v=0

As I'm very clever, I took advantage of the fact that Tiger Tom was drinking some wine to approach his chocolate egg.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3030/2390180507_90b23d235a.jpg?v=0

I plunged into the egg and began to eat it discretely... until there was no more chocolate to hide me...
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3265/2390902430_fbbcd15b15.jpg?v=0

Then, I was still hungry... I saw that Mistigree's nieces were completely wrapped up in watching TV...
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2130/2390069423_827700db88.jpg?v=0

PERFECT !! It was very easy to steal their Easter chocolate thus ! There were little eggs and also chocolate squares. They were soooo excellent !!!
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2363/2390901590_4cd5b32e08.jpg?v=0
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2326/2390069569_bb524900ef.jpg?v=0

Once I finished the children's chocolates, I went to the kitchen where I saw a kind of cake called "tourte des Pyrénées" (Pyrénées is the region where Mistigree's parents live)...
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3135/2390901102_5fe7942a0b.jpg?v=0

I introduced myself under the wrapping...
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2371/2390901418_86f50bfe38.jpg?v=0

Very good this Pyrenean cake with eggs and butter !!
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2004/2390901246_37eb31eb35.jpg?v=0

My meal wouldn't have been perfect without some cheese, so I ate some Capitoul, a local ewe's milk cheese.

Toulouse, France - 27th March 2008

By: Mistigree

While Mistigree was working, I had a walk outside and when I passed along this little greengrocer, I couldn't resist to steal an apple... Mistigree didn't give me change, that's why I was obliged to steal, believe me...
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3214/2348707852_552c151fab.jpg?v=0

Unfortunately, the grocer saw me, he caught me and called the police !
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3231/2348707962_c87588595b.jpg?v=0

They arrested me and drove me to jail for shoplifting.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2404/2348707652_a2ebc06da0.jpg?v=0

I spent some hours behind bars until Mistigree came and paid a bail for me so that I could go out of jail... I have to say I was not very proud of myself... but I was starving and I needed to eat this apple !

Toulouse, France - 31st March 2008

By: Mistigree

Mistigree has been looking after her nieces and nephew this week-end. Yesterday we went to a park for the children to play. Each of us ate a Barbapapa (is there an English word for that ?)
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2089/2390902920_a646f3e12d.jpg?v=0

It was just perfect because it was not only yummy but also well matched with my pink colour !
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2411/2390070127_348e1a829e.jpg?v=0

Today the wether was bad so we stayed inside. We had a perfect snack : French viennoiseries, with croissant, sweet roll and currant bun.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3087/2390070447_b02c619489.jpg?v=0

It was not enough for me and I asked for a slice of bread and Nutella.

Mistigree borrowed 4 little books from the library especially for me...
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2375/2390071495_9feba82010.jpg?v=0

In France my name is Monsieur Glouton (Glouton means Greedy).
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2285/2390903544_d772a7e356.jpg?v=0

Do you recognize me ?
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2332/2390070961_3217619c27.jpg?v=0

This charming lady is called Madame Dodue (Plump).

Today in Toulouse there was a market held by people coming from Lot (Lot is a region just near Toulouse where they have plenty of good things to eat !!)
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2113/2392008229_54586dd120.jpg?v=0

I met a French chef there.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3202/2392007599_fc9b7c8886.jpg?v=0

I asked him what he was doing here with a knife in his hands.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3179/2392008415_9452944315.jpg?v=0

He answered me he was running after gooses...Yum yum... gooses, that means "foie gras"... It made my mouth water and I tried to help him to catch some gooses, but there were running too fast for me.

Pau (flying to Belgium), France - 12th April 2008

By: Mistigree

Hey ! I'm in front of Pau airport cause I'm going to Belgium for one week today !
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3044/2431145427_25c2e79659.jpg?v=0

We're going to fly with Ryanair that are low cost flights, I hope I won't be sick in the plane... I know there are bags in case... oh you know what I mean...
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3056/2431145261_0a441fd749.jpg?v=0

This is our plane. I'm curious to see what kind of meal on a tray they are going to serve us !
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2275/2431961980_594417f06f.jpg?v=0

What a disappointment ! As it is a low cost flight, there are no meal served on board !! Hopefully, Mistigree knew it and she thought about bringing some "croque-monsieur".
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3252/2431962212_3435a03c0f.jpg?v=0

I ate too many of them and then I had a big problem... I couldn't close my security belt anymore...
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2093/2431146059_34aeb62eec.jpg?v=0

So I spent all the flight at the window instead of my seat, looking at the clouds and digesting all the croque-monsieur.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2076/2431962460_118668c626.jpg?v=0

Here we are !! In Charleroi airport ! Now we have to take a train to go to Bruges, our first stop.

Bruges, Belgium - 13th April 2008

By: Mistigree

Here I am in Bruges (or Brugge... or Brughe...!!)
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3237/2431158357_2a6fa4ac7a.jpg?v=0

We are in a hotel whose breakfast is excellent and you can imagine how important it is for me !
Look at this basket plenty of different breads !
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2347/2431160069_73713b8f44.jpg?v=0

There is a buffet and we can take all that we want !! It is a dream for me !
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3247/2431159639_e1372e6589.jpg?v=0

So here is my very first breakfast here in Belgium, it is even more copious than an English breakfast !
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2050/2431159493_3dd9353328.jpg?v=0

There seem to be nice restaurants in the town such as this one.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2380/2431159043_2b3ac4ebf8.jpg?v=0

I liked very much its fork and spoon sign !
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3229/2431974948_c10f1cdfeb.jpg?v=0

I hope I will be able to taste Belgium fries. I saw we can buy them at all the places where FRITUUR is written !
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2103/2431160423_5f9e827b12.jpg?v=0

For the moment, I'm feasting on a crepe with egg, ham and pineapple (!)
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2252/2431976330_eaa3343ee4.jpg?v=0

I was still hungry at the end of the meal, but Mistigree did not want to buy me one of those yummy waffles !
