Unfortunately the weather was not good - lots of rain for quite a few days. So I did not venture out often. The photos show a bit how the area looks like.

On the weekend I had a short day trip to one of the lakes south of Munich, the Ammersee. It was a great summer day and I enjoyed walking along the lake side. We found a tree xylophone - nice sound.

München, Germany - 15th July 2008

Surprise!!! Some traveling toyvoyagers were in town and I met up with them and their host olgamaus. We had a nice walk along the Isar river, saw the Friedensengel ("angel of freedom" statue) - the fountain shows a rainbow! - and ended up in the beergarden of the Chineses Tower inside the English Garden (that's a large park in Munich).ö

München, Germany - 28th July 2008

This week the Auer Dult takes place. I loved to take a stroll over there.
This is some information about the Auer Dult:
The Auer Dult is characteristic of Munich, the Bavarian capital. The history of the popular fair with its folkloric flair can be traced back to the Middle Ages.
Three times a year, the locals flock to the Mariahilfplatz, in the part of town called the "Au", which means "meadow" or "pasture": here they can walk around at leisure, shop for bargains, have a bite to eat and enjoy a good time. During the "Dult", the fairground, which spreads over 20,000 square meters, becomes an island in the heart of the city, alive with conversation and congeniality. Children young and old enjoy going on the bumper cars, the boat-like swings, the merry-go-round or the ferris wheel.
The Auer Dult is Europe's largest market for tableware and all kinds of pots and pans. New-fangled household products are proudly praised as "kitchen marvels". The junk dealers' wares conceal many a treasure, sometimes art and sometimes kitsch. Whether glass or porcelain, wax or wicker, cloth or leather, whether it's candy or an old-fashioned herbal remedy you're looking for: your heart's desire awaits you at the Dult. This is open-air shopping with a smile.

Nürnberg, Germany - 1st August 2008
By: Pandamao
I am so exited - I'm going to Nürnberg for the Bardentreffen.
Some info from the website:
33rd Bardentreffen
Singer-Songwriter Festival, Nuremberg 2008
Friday 1 August to Sunday 3 August, 2008
Finns are brilliant in school, some are a bit bizarre. This we gather from PISA Studies and Kaurismäki films. But who knows that in Finland, the tango is popular? Or what a "Kantele" sounds like? You will be able to hear it during the 33rd Bardentreffen singer-songwriter festival. This year, Finland will be the focus of Germany's biggest free outdoor world music festival. Of course, the bizarre Leningrad Cowboys are a must. As is the Master of the Singing Saw, "La Sega del Canto". All in all, the festival will feature about 60 bands and musicians from all over the world, including Joan Armatrading.
I arrived in the afternoon and headed out right away for the music .... besides the "official" groups and singers lots of other people come to make music on the streets.

Nürnberg, Germany - 2nd August 2008

As the concerts start in the afternoon I used the morning for a bit of sight-seeing. I had a look at the Lorenzkirche and strolled along Königstraße (King Street). In the background of the second and third photo you can spot the castle of Nürnberg.

Today is the last day of Bardentreffen. I was great to have been here. I even managed to see the Leningrad Cowboys play. I stayed till the very end and met with Pandamao's friends at the Tiergärtnertorplatz. The last photo shows the house of Dürer (wich is at Tiergärtnertorplatz).

On Monday I stopped at Regensburg on the way back to München for sight-seeing. Regensburg is inscribed on the UNESCO world heritage list. The Old City of Regensburg still shows the character of the medieval times.

Wörthsee, Germany - 22nd August 2008
By: Pandamao
The weather was really nice so we headed out for a longish walk. First we took the S-Bahn to Weßling, then hiked along the Weßling lake over the fields into the forest and finally hit the Wörthsee (another lake). We went for a swim in the lake and it was great!!! Sun, blue sky, sailing boats, warm water ... and a day off from work with our host. Perfect! When we came back to Weßling we had walked about 18 km and then really enjoyed a relaxed evening on the couch.

Third day of lakes - today a walk to the Deininger Weiher. Today I did not swim, the wind was too cold even if the sun was still out a lot.
