My host's mum's house, England - 22nd July 2011

By: miapearl

We have come to my host's mum's house!
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DxKfTmJO90g/TjWk8soNYkI/AAAAAAAAD60/cX93v915PDU/ants1.jpg
There are lots of ants in the garden. This book says that ants don't like crossing chalk!
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-aPPR9HZKA8M/TjWk9vd-JjI/AAAAAAAAD64/QFHWnkPIDxQ/ants2.jpg
There's an ant...
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-5Z8ZTyZt7r0/TjWk-14IVsI/AAAAAAAAD68/bKywo6XzSzk/ants3.jpg
It still is in the same section...
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-4JxjaU7lda8/TjWk_6wlFJI/AAAAAAAAD7A/LtjokeePSpQ/ants2a.jpg
Hmm, it has escaped. The ants we've watched seem quite happy to cross the chalk. Back to the drawing board.

Maze in Maize, Whaplode, England - 23rd July 2011

By: miapearl

Hi Mum,
Do you know where I am?
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-iMTH_1irkHU/TjWlgEZypgI/AAAAAAAAD78/2ncR7qI-fIk/chrissilost1.jpg
I am lost in the maze in maize. There is a quiz sheet and questions but the answerboards are hidden throughout the maze.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-HpTe5R-sDiQ/TjWlCX6oDOI/AAAAAAAAD7I/0aCnx7zBfMU/lost2.jpg
On the board there is a letter. When all the answers have been found, these letters make up the answer to another question. My host has obscured the letters.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-qFwPc0g099o/TjWlDcgtjyI/AAAAAAAAD7M/NBEYDjEOIFk/lost3.jpg
The theme of this maze is the rainforest.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-LAPjhffQvNk/TjWlFSWypHI/AAAAAAAAD7U/oB58-e-bSbw/lost5.jpg
With questions on rainforest creatures...
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-aHcbGB8eHzg/TjWlIN-hNzI/AAAAAAAAD7g/LFtQidqleQg/lost9.jpg
What is a Chlamydosaurus?
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/--bU7DmplVjs/TjWlJNC8QVI/AAAAAAAAD7k/Z-59KgFcAv8/lost10.jpg
That looks cute...
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-3hsUQcQ2zp0/TjWlKNdC8sI/AAAAAAAAD7o/IWmw6Kdwlxc/lost11.jpg
There's another bridge so we can look across the ma(i)ze.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-I_B1ucdGnyQ/TjWlbWpTFUI/AAAAAAAAD7s/F6KSCF2WBic/s512/lost12.jpg
And a bench at the eye to rest...

Whaplode Drove, England - 24th July 2011

By: miapearl

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-sIgumYehInM/TjWl3H6ClhI/AAAAAAAAD9Q/Omvk-wvFxPs/chrissiwhap1.jpg
There are vintage cars and little trains on show.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-pToPIUcIc0M/TjWl4TpjVjI/AAAAAAAAD9U/KWBq0CGQ3MM/chrissiwhap2.jpg
And other vintage things.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Xi87_3-ZlkE/TjWl5QrqGoI/AAAAAAAAD9Y/uvFdXwZjkoY/chrissiwhap3.jpg
Not so vintage is this jelly!
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-CvjS_C_ROeY/TjWl5_tUvpI/AAAAAAAAD9c/1njAnvA2MFM/chrissiwhap4.jpg
These jellies will be thrown and hopefully caught! Yay!
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-K5AaYGg0c0s/TjWl6lt-nOI/AAAAAAAAD9g/k-AbotV6YeU/chrissiwhap5.jpg
Looks like quite a bit was caught there.

Nottingham, England - 26th July 2011

By: miapearl

Hi Mum,
On our way back home to Wales, we stopped off in Nottingham. A shop my host wanted to go to was closed, and the caves her husband wanted to see were also closed.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Y7VrSsB70JU/TjWmY5aup4I/AAAAAAAAD-c/MEwcZMli1cE/s640/nottingham.jpg
Instead, we had a brief wander around. Could that be Robin Hood?
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-FVuVHpVkUVs/TjWmg6k844I/AAAAAAAAD_E/uMcAP63Fthw/nottcb3.jpg
Back in the centre, there was something unexpected. A beach!
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Fc3bmNVzLFg/TjWmgCnMUQI/AAAAAAAAD_A/howDZwUXLUc/nottcb2.jpg
They also had a mini funfair, and a permanent water feature.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lQ_3Fuggrl0/TjWmfByZJVI/AAAAAAAAD-8/fkJdtgOj7VU/nottcb1.jpg
They also have trams.

Islands off West Kirby, England - 13th August 2011

By: miapearl

Hi Mum,
After going to Spaceport, we went for a drive on the Wirral. We came to West Kirby. The tide was out and we started walking to the little islands.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-216KSuTfzGI/Tm3LwzwSDgI/AAAAAAAAEHY/er4Di8ltuxI/bre1.jpg
This is the middle island. Can you see the mainland through the gap?
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-QQZxs_pnql0/Tm3LxnYcnqI/AAAAAAAAEHc/qddxHomQ-0w/bre2.jpg
It seems a long way out.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-A6IvjdgB3Vk/Tm3LWTUVHqI/AAAAAAAAEE4/pS78Dxriqtk/chrissibre3.jpg
That building is on the third island, Hilbre but we didn't make it that far. It was getting late and we had a long walk back to the mainland.

Temuco, Chile - 23rd October 2011

By: Leslie

Hello mum!

I arrived in Chile safe and sound! Thankfully the joruney wasn't as long as I thought it would be! :D

I was welcomed by four very nice toyvoyagers who are staying here at the moment, they are Timothy III., Fiona Yenien, Petunia and Sweet Mimi.

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0124.jpg

I gave Leslie the postcard I brought her, she loved it! :D
I can't wait to start exploring around!

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0125.jpg

See you!
Chrissi

Temuco, Chile - 26th October 2011

By: Leslie

Hi mum, how are you?

Today we went to the city centre, which I found out isn't very big, in fact not big at all!
I saw pretty much all there is to see.

This is the main square of the city.

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_00029.jpg

This monument shows Mapuches (chilean aborigins) with drums and spears and spanish conquerors with rifles and other guns :stare:
It's the most important monument in Temuco.

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0025.jpg

Right next to the square is one of the tallest buildings of the city and the main church.

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0034.jpg

Outside of the church there were a lot of priests! I wonder what they were up to! Maybe they heard there are toyvoyagers in town and wanted to see us!  ;)

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0042.jpg

Back at home I ate digüeñes. They're orange little mushrooms that grow on some trees in this time of the year! I ate them with vinegar and coriander :p They're yummy, you should try them!

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0131.jpg

It's very warm here now, it's spring! Good thing that I scaped from the european winter to the warm south hemisphere! ha!  :D

Kisses
Chrissi

Queule, Chile - 30th October 2011

By: Leslie

Hey mum!

We came to relax to Leslie's summerhouse for the long weekend! :D It's in a small fishing village called Queule which is surrounded by beautiful hills and beaches!

This is the view from the balcony! Very nice isn't it? You can see the whole river mouth of Queule river and back there is the ocean!

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0300.jpg

In the garden there were many plants, but I'd never seen this one!
It's called nalca (Chilean rhubarb) and it's very big!
Leslie told me that some people eat their stems with salt! But she didn't let me try it, she said she wouldn´t break her plants' stems.  :)

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0402.jpg

The nalca was surrounded by some very nice forget-me-nots. :)

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0399.jpg

These are the flowers of a plant called chilco. They're the hummingbirds' favourite meal!

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0407.jpg

Then after lunch we decided to go to the beach! To get there you have to walk for about 40 minutes up and down the hill! So we started walking!

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0410.jpg

Can you guess the name of this rock? A clue, it's the king of the jungle ;) ...king of the jungle with some trees on his back!

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0429.jpg

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0433.jpg

This is the beach we were walking to! It's called Ronca beach. The word ronca means "snore" and the beach is called like that because of the loud sound of its waves! They really do sound loud!

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0435.jpg

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0448.jpg

We went down to beach and walked next to the sea foam and the waves

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0453.jpg

Bobi smelled this seaweed from far away so we came to see it! It's called cochayuyo and guess what, it's edible! Although it didn't smell very inviting to say the less...

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0454.jpg

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0460.jpg

See what the wind has done to the trees in front of the sea!!

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0490.jpg

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0476.jpg

Leslie told me there was a fire in this forest some years ago... but as you can see nature is recovering nicely

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0497.jpg

There are many burnt tree trunks still standing.

http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b445/Resurie/Chrissi/IMG_0510.jpg

What a cool day!  :D

See you!
Chrissi
