Pretoria, South Africa - 6th November 2011
By: Katara
Hi Mom and Dad!
Today I went for my African ToyVoyager medical. I received an immunisation injection as Katara wanted to make sure that I don't get sick while visiting her in South Africa.
The nurse noticed that I was having some arm trouble. She removed the temporary "pin" and re-attached my arm. Now I am as good as new!
Love,
Marty xxx

Pretoria, South Africa - 8th November 2011
By: Katara
Hi Mom and Dad!
You'll never guess where I am!! In CAPE TOWN!
Katara's husband had to attend a conference there, and she accompanied him - and lucky for me, she took me along too.
It's just a short trip - and we'll only stay for 2 days, but the cool
thing is that I might see a little bit of Cape Town!
Cape Town is 1 700km (approximately 1000 miles) from Pretoria.
Fortunately we flew down so it only took 2 hours.
Cape Town (Afrikaans: Kaapstad; Xhosa: iKapa) is the second-most populous city in South Africa.
As the seat of the National Parliament, it is also the legislative capital of the country.
The city is famous for its harbour as well as its natural setting in the Cape floral kingdom,
including such well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point. Cape Town is also Africa's most popular tourist destination.
We took some photos at O.R. Tambo International Airport and in the plane.

Cape Town, South Africa - 9th November 2011
By: Katara
Hi Mom!
Last night we checked into Dunkley House - It's a 4-star guest house. The room is very comfortable and our one door opens onto the swimming pool.
The weather isn't great - so we are
going to be spending the day lazying around at the guest house as Katara's husband will be attending a conference today.
But we will definitely be doing some sight-seeing tomorrow. I can't wait to see Table Mountain!
Hugs and kisses,
Marty

Hout Bay, South Africa - 9th November 2011
By: Katara
Tonight we went to Mariner's Wharf in Hout Bay. It was a scenic drive but unfortunately it rained most of the way.
I also caught a glimpse of Table Mountain and of the ocean!
The interior of the restaurant is decorated to look like an old ship. We enjoyed some seafood for dinner and it was delicious!

Cape Town, South Africa - 10th November 2011

Hi mom!
Today we spent the whole day sight-seeing! I had a fabulous time!
Part 1:
First we went to Table Mountain. It is a significant tourist attraction, with many visitors using the cableway or hiking to the top.
The mountain forms part of the Table Mountain National Park.
It was awesome to see. Table Mountain is also in the running to become one of the 7 New Natural Wonders of the world.

Part 2:
We walked around at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront which is
situated at the foot of Table Mountain, and in the heart of Cape Town’s working harbour.

Part 3:
In the first photo you can see Robben Island in the background. It is a UN World Heritage Site.
We drove around the city and took photos along the way.
Tonight we will catch a flight back to Pretoria. Katara has a window seat so I'm looking forward to seeing all the night lights from way up high!
Love you mom!

Pretoria, South Africa - 3rd December 2011

Today Katara had her very first stall at
The Green Market and she took me along. It is a market that focuses on
environmentally friendly products as well as products that are
made from recycled materials. Katara sold some jewellery that
she made from items that she recycled into jewellery.

Today I went shopping with Katara and her husband. We just popped down the road to a local supermarket to
buy some supplies for the coming week. Katara took me
down the sweet isle to show me all the different types of candy. They also have candy from overseas like "Katje's",
"Toblerone", "Skittles", "Twix", "Mars bars" and "Snickers".
