Hattingen, Germany - 16th March 2010

By: BlackCat

Hattingen became part of the Hanseatic League in 1554 and became an important trading town. In 1720, there were 52 operating coal mines within the municipal area and Hattingen became one of the first industrial cities of the Ruhr region. Steel production started in 1853, when the Henrichshütte was founded. The Henrichshütte became one of the most important employers of the whole region and dominated the town until it closed in 1987.

Behind me you can see the Henrichshütte.

Today we went to a view place in Essen. From there we saw the Baldeney lake and a part of Essen, which is called Werden.

Hattingen, Germany - 23rd April 2010

By: BlackCat

For 150 years the sparks were flying at the blast furnaces at the Henrichshütte ironworks when the kilns were opened to spew out the molten iron. Today we have brought this authentic historic ironworks back to life. Over 10.000 people once worked here on the gigantic site, producing coke, and casting, rolling and forging iron and steel. The museum has a number of different trails where visitors can learn more about the different work processes. They can also take the glass elevator to the top of the oldest existing blast furnace in the region, watch our steel casting demonstrations, go on a torchlight tour of the works at night, or simply sit back and enjoy a piano recital in the blowing house.

Today we went into the museum and made some pictures.

When Katrin came home today she was really happy. She has finished her Bachelor'S Thesis and now she has finally at lot of free time again. That's got for me and the other TVs because we hope that she will spend a lot of time with us now. ;)

Hardegsen, Germany - 16th July 2010

By: babyamy

We are visiting Katrin's boyfriend this weekend. He lives in a small town in the state Niedersachsen. While he is at work, we had a walk through the town.

The first thing that cought my eye was the different landscape. In every direction you can see hills.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_6346.jpg

Nature is everywhere. Here we are sitting in a stone wall. Maybe it was part of the wall of the castle, but Katrin doesn't know anything about it.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_6349.jpg

Aren't these roses wonderful?
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_6351.jpg

Some of the buildings in the city center are really old. This one is from the 17th century.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_6353.jpg

The mascot of the city: a donkey! There is a story behind it, but we couldn't find any information about it.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_6357.jpg

Then we came closer to the castle which is the center of the town. This is the watchtower...
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp226/kawie88/103_6359.jpg

... and  this is the view at the castle. It is not easy to take a good photo of it because everything is really narrow.

Hamburg, Germany - 21st July 2010

By: babyamy

I decided to leave the safe place and said goodbye to the other TVs. I followed the call of the wilderness and sit on a bench at the campus of the Hamburg university to wait for someone who shows me parts of his/her life.
