Aztec, NM, USA - 18th September 2007

By: wourpet

It has been nice having Coney home and spending time with him.  We went to the Aztec Ruins today. The Aztec Ruins National Park is on sacred ground.  The park became a world heritage site in 1987.
The ruins were not really from the Aztec but from Pueblos long before.  By studying the trash layers the archeologists discovered that the ruins were home to 2 distinct groups at 2 distinct times.  The builders were Pueblo Indians.

Construction of some of the old buildings dates back to before the 1100's.
The West Ruin was the largest of the buildings and had at least 400 rooms rising 3 stories.
It was a public building like todays civic centers.
The Hubbard Site was built with three walls surrounding a Kiva.  22 rooms were built into the walls.

The Great Kiva is like a sanctuary or worship place and is in the West Plaza at the ruins.  It was rebuilt in 1934 so we would know what it looked like.

Canyonlands, Utah, USA - 20th September 2007

By: wourpet

We headed out on a road trip today.  I was joined by Froddo, Coney and Daisy Duck.  We were heading to Grand Junction, Colorado but we drove north through Utah.  The beginning of the trip was pretty cool with some exciting rock formations. The first notable one was Shiprock near the town of Shiprock in New Mexico.  It is the core of an old volcano that has all the rest of the mountain blown away by the wind.
For most of the trip it was too dark for pictures so wourpet showed us some from a previous trip.  We went through the Canyonlands, where all the rock is very red.  Arches park was along the road but we didn't drive into it at night.  We drove through Dove Creek and Monticello and the entrance to Arches National Park.

We will be here for 2 days but there isn't going to be much sightseeing.  Wourpet said this trip is all about work.

Farmington, NM, USA - 23rd September 2007

By: wourpet

I'm back in Farmington and I am exhausted.  I love traveling but when I get back home I have to help wourpet pack boxes and there is so much stuff.
Today I even had to help get Froddo and Daisy Duck ready to go to their next hosts.
Somedays I wish I could travel about but I want to be here when my brothers and sisters all come home.

After we checked the labels and had them packed Coney went out to dinner and I stayed and packed boxes -- and more boxes.

Grand Junction, Colorado, USA - 24th September 2007

By: wourpet

Today Wourpet and me brought Coney and Wuff on the rocks to Grand Junction to see the new house where we are moving to.  From New Mexico we drove through the canyonlands of Utah and then back into Colorado on the I-70.  There were a lot of cool rock formations to see along the trip before it got too dark.

After we got here we went and soaked in the hot tub for awhile. I showed them where everything was because I stayed here before with Ballet Cindy.

Farmington, NM, USA - 25th September 2007

By: wourpet

It was a very short visit in Grand Junction and today we came back to Farmington.  We took a different route and I got to show Coney all the places I have been before along the Scenic Skyway through the San Juan Mountains.  Today was different than my other trips, though, because there was snow on the mountain tops.  In some places we drove right beside the snow capped mountains.

Farmington, NM, USA - 28th September 2007

By: wourpet

Today is a sad day because my brother Coney is packing and heading back to Baghdad Iraq and the war.
He packed his things and then Wuffy packed him.  We took them down to the airport and waved goodbye to them. They are flying to a different airport where they will get on a bigger plane.  I cried a little bit.  I hope they are both safe.  Coney will update us when he gets back to base.

Farmington, NM, USA - 2nd October 2007

By: wourpet

Wow!  My life is full of surprises.  When I was travelling around last week I lost my ID tag and my wallet but I wasn't lost so we didn't worry.  Well a park ranger contacted us and not only found my ID but also invited me to visit and then fly to France to visit a friend and complete my mission of visiting a winery in France.
I didn't know what to do because I have been here looking after everybody else and waiting for everyone to come home. Mara-Joyis arriving this week and I will not get to meet her. Wourpet said it would be fine if I went on a journey and so I spent my last evening at home helping package care packages for the troops.  As soon as they all get sent off I will be going to meet Tadular and then I'll be on my way to France.
The friend in France said it is a very small place and I might need a sleeping bag to sleep on the floor but I am still very excited.

Lyon, France - 16th December 2007

By: terpsicorie

Rosa made it safely to France, though I'm sure it was a bumpy ride.  She is staying in Besancon, France at the moment, but took a weekend trip to Lyon, the third largest city in France.  The pictures show some of the adventures at the hostel, cafe au lait in the morning, on the Fouvrière hill, which she visited the next morning, lay the Roman ruins of the capital of Gaul, Lugdunum, and its amphitheatre.  She stopped to look around and then trekked up the hill to the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière that overlooked the whole city.  She had a great time seeing the beautiful sights and drinking hot wine.  She has yet to visit a winery, but that is on her list over winter break.

somewhere, France - 29th February 2008

By: wourpet

It is suddenly of the utmost importance that the Conejo family rounds up all the strays and travelers for a family reunion at Easter.  It would seem that Ahumado (Coney) Conejo is due to return from Iraq.  His timing, even if we don't know the eexact date, is excellent since it was one year ago on March 24 of 2007 that the Conejo family were rescued in Springerville Arizona and set off on their worldly adventures.  However it seems the fate of the Conejo family is not a happy one and many may have possibly ended up in the stew pot.
http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/wourpet/Travel%20Toys/100_0219.jpg
Coney joined the army and was soon in Baghdad traveling around in tanks and hummers.  Azul ran off with a new and unknown friend following a July 4th parade and is likely deep in the Navajo Nation with no internet communication and unable to report in.  Picado has clocked a remarkable amount of miles as he has crisscrossed the globe and is currently in California.  He will make one last visit to Florida before returning home for the reunion.  Morado has just started out on the Russian TVT so he will not be able to make it home, or so he says, but the pictures from Germany and Russia are indicative of a fondness for partying.  Rosa spent most of the year at home waiting for Coney but was invited by a park ranger (after she had left her wallet and ID behind at Aztec Ruins National Park) to visit a friend in France where she would be able to reach a life mission and visit a winery.  First, though, she would spend some time with the Park Ranger, including a road trip around Montana. She traveled from the snow of Montana to the vinelands of France in December and will hopefully be heard from again this spring.  Maybe she can even come home for the reunion and then return to France.  Blanche went to Australia and it would appear she fell into the fate every little rabbit worries about  -- the stew pot – and she was never heard from again.  All attempts to contact her host or to have her moved on have gone unanswered.  The rest of the Conejo family is of little help.  With Azul missing in action on the Navajo Nation, or maybe also in the stew pot, Rosa snowed either under in the wilds of Montana or crushing grapes in France, or also in the stew pot,  Morado partying and dancing in Russia, and sufficiently stewed even if he’s not in a pot and Blanche in the billycan -- it is going to be a sad affair when Picado is the only Conejo present to welcome his brother Coney home from his long deployment in Baghdad.

It would be so good if the Conejos could find their way back home.
