Brangi Mamyte/ Dear Mummy,
heading back home from Suwalki we stopped to a nice water source. It isn't well known in Lithuania or Europ but water here is said to be the cleanest in area.
What an interesting sign showing where the water source is.
Going to it.
And here is how it looks. Steps to it are extremely slippery so we didn't got any further that this.
Hugs, MrCoolHH

And egn really bought a dress this time So, egn promissed to make us a little walk in Kaunas.
I found some information about this building. However, it was only in Lithuanian, so i translated it with google translate. Sorry, if there will be any mistakes. This building is Military Club of Lithuania.

Kaunas, Lithuania - 23rd May 2010
By: egn
Dear Mummy,
now I cam end my story about trip to Kaunas.
A nice festival take place in Kaunas this weekend. It is Kaunas city birthday and this festival is called "Days of Kaunas". Here is poster, who shows that and wishes good day for everyone, who lives and are in Kaunas.
Here is a very famous alley, called "The Alley of Liberty". We were walking along it.
Because of the festival there were many markets. I found a perfect hat for me. The words on it means "I drink and I drive". This hat is used in bathhouses.
I saw sport car parade.
So, we were walking when suddenly it started to rain!
Egn was furious as she wanted to do me my perfect good-bye trip. So, the only thing we could do was to go to restaurant. We went to a nice Chinese restaurant "Mr. Chan". We got place in terace and I had my own clean place as well.
I got my own bowl of rice with eggs and vegetables as well.
And egn ordered a big plate of crispy fish to all my friends and me.
When it stopped to rain, we continued our trip around Kaunas. I saw an interesting statue.
In the centre of "The Alley of Liberty" the statue of Lithuania hero-Vytautas is built.
Quote: | Vytautas (Lithuanian: Vytautas Didysis; styled "the Great" from the 15th century onwards; c. 1350 – October 27, 1430) was one of the most famous rulers of medieval Lithuania. Vytautas was the ruler (1392–1430) of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania which chiefly encompassed the Lithuanians and Ruthenians. He was also the Prince of Hrodna (1370–1382) and the Prince of Lutsk (1387–1389), postulated king of Hussites.
In modern Lithuania, Vytautas is revered as a national hero and was an important figure in the national rebirth in the 19th century. Vytautas is a popular male given name in Lithuania. Vytautas Magnus University was named after him. Monuments in his honour were built in many towns in the independent Republic of Lithuania during the interwar period, 1918–1939.

I saw a woman, wearing traditional Lithuanian clothes and singing traditional Lithuanian songs.
Here is the second biggest post office in Lithuania.
Another nice statue.
"The Liberty Boulevard" is very long.
Quote: | Laisvės Alėja (literary Liberty Boulevard or Liberty Avenue) is a prominent pedestrian street in the city of Kaunas, Lithuania. It stretches between the St. Michael the Archangel's Byzantine style church to the Central Post Office and Tadas Ivanauskas Zoological Museum around the Kaunas Old Town, the oldest section of Kaunas. For a long time it was main commercial district of Kaunas.
Stretching for 1,6 km, Laisvės Alėja is still the longest pedestrian street in Eastern Europe [1]. Motor vehicles cannot travel lengthwise up or down Laisvės Alėja, but can cross this pedestrian street at intersections with other streets where vehicle traffic is allowed. This boulevard is separated into two walkways by a median strip lined with linden trees.
Construction around Laisvės Alėja originally took place during the latter half of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, however some construction continued even afterwards. Because of at the time built Kaunas Fortress all the buildings were limited to 2-3 floor size, with a few exceptions like St. Michael the Archangel's church built in 1895 in a place of a fountain.
In 1982, Laisvės Alėja was reconstructed according to plans of architects V. Palauskas and V. Paleckienė, and completely transformed into pedestrian area (as it was planned as early as in 1953).
Both Kaunas State Musical Theatre and Kaunas State Drama Theatre are located along the street, as well as the Kaunas Red Cross Hospital. |
Here is the other side of this Boulevard.
On the scene people were dancing traditional Lithuanian dances.
An interesting fountain.
I liked this place the most. It looks like the alley in Berlin "Unter den Linden"
Egn bought for me a present-sweet candy.
Hugs, MrCoolHH

Arlington, MA, USA - 4th June 2010
By: McFloozy
Hi Mom,
I wanted to write a quick note to let you know I arrived safely in Massachusetts. McFloozy let me look at my travelog from Lithuania. It was nice to see those pictures, and remember those good times.
It is Friday, and McFloozy said that we'll have some fun this weekend. The people at the Acton Post Office are really friendly. They are so happy when ToyVoyagers come.

Today I enjoyed the wonderful activity of porch swinging.
I met some other ToyVoyager friends, and we enjoyed the swing on the front porth. Here we are.
In the picture, you can see [/tv]Snowflake, Jeff, [tv]Cilly, Chuckle, and me!
Then we climbed up on the porch ledge and McFloozy took our picture again. It was like a ToyVoyager party. I like porches. Summer time, porch swing, and cold drinks. That's a good life.
Here I am sipping some iced coffee. That is a favorite drink of McFloozy in the summer. She decorated her Dunkin Donuts mug with stickers from places she visited. You know the motto: "America Runs on Dunkin". Yum
I'm not sure what we'll do next, but I'm enjoyinig the summer here in New England. And oh yes, the American flag has red in it, so this visit helps achieve that life goal!

Hampton Beach, NH, USA - 26th June 2010
By: McFloozy
WOW!
Today we went to the Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, Sand Sculpting Contest. The first thing I saw when we were walking to the beach, was this enormous tiger.
Why does this picture make my nose look so big?
We walked a little farther, and there was a Pink Panther! Cilly andn I had our pictures taken with her.
We got to the beach and I was so excited to see the sand carvings. Here I am with Cilly in front of some of the sculptures.
We walked around behind the sculptures, and there was a beautiful peacock! We took a group photo: Jeff, Chuckle, MrCoolHH, and Cilly. The sign said KEEP OUT, so we didn't go any closer.
After that, we went and had snacks at the Cascade Seas restaurant.
There was a water slide next to the restaurant. That would be fun, but I didn't want to get my fur wet. I just watched the children go down it.
Because I'm already very red, I didn't have to worry about getting sunburned. I'll be leaving here soon, and off on a trip.

Warsaw, Poland - 13th August 2010
By: inidhil
On the second day, we went to a super-cool museum! The weather was nice and warm, so even though we went by tram, we came back on foot.
It was the Warsaw Rising Museum. The Warsaw Rising was a very important event in the Second World War-period Poland. I learned all about it and more! The museum is very modern, with some of the exhibits displayed in such a way that you can touch them, get into them, etc. So cool!
This is the courtyard before the entrance.
And these are the tickets!
This was a really awesome room where printers from the WWII period were displayed.
And you could actually sit on the seat of this motorcycle!
In one of the halls there was a real plane displayed, too!
I really enjoyed the museum. There were so many rooms with different displays, even tents, concrete rooms, small 'cinemas' with films and many more. The only thing I would have enjoyed would be to get into the aircraft
And this is outside of the museum. There is a really tall tower from which you can see a big part of the city, too.
And the other side of the street. Warsaw is a really strange city, sometimes it looks as if it was a mixture of at least 5 different cities at the same time!
This is the view from the 1st floor of a mall in the very centre of Warsaw. You can see the Hard Rock Cafe guitar.
And this it the Palace of Culture and Science. Did you know that it's the tallest building in Poland and the eighth tallest in the European Union? I wanted to go to the top floor, but it was too late in the evening. It was great to see it though!

Warsaw, Poland - 14th August 2010
By: inidhil
On Saturday my hosts went to the National Museum.
This is the palm tree that grows just next to the museum. Weird, huh? I didn't know there were palm trees in Poland...
But my hosts say that it's a 'modern monument'. Whatever, it looks nice.
Me in front of the Museum, and behind me you can see paintings by Wyspianski, a famous Polish painter. Unfortunately, no photos inside the museum this time.
Then they went to see some friends at a cafe and that was it for Saturday. I had to stay in the bag for over 5 hours and listen to girl talk all the time. Not funny!
And on the fourth day we went to visit the Old Town. It was fun!
This is the side of the Royal Castle. It was huge!
And this is the front.
This is me enjoying the midday sun.
Tenement houses in the Old Town. They were super colourful!
This is Sigismund's Column. The column and statue commemorate King Sigismund III Vasa, who in 1596 had moved Poland's capital from Kraków to Warsaw.
Helium baloons! Look how they fly when I blow!
This is the church of St. Anne.
And this is the Presidential Palace. It is the source of a major controversy in Poland these days, but it's kinda complicated to explain...
This photo is nicer than the other one, more me and less palace!
This is part of the fortifications that used to surround Warsaw in the Middle Ages.
It's another look on that place. What a lovely view!
And another one!
And this is almost the opposite side of the Old Town, and still some fortifications remaining!
This bike was so red that I just HAD to have a photo taken!
The ice cream was delicious...
And so was this!
In the evening we went to a Chinese restaurant. Sorry for the blurry photo, it was really dark inside!
BUT! I got to drink a red-coloured beverage: it was raspberry juice. Really tasty!
And that was the end of the trip. So much fun!
