Hi Mummy!

We were off on our wonderful trip.  Here I was looking at Mount Tam, that was our destination.  Miss Kate said we’re spending the weekend on the other side of that mountain.  Do you like the picture of me with the clouds, Mummy?  I really like clouds. 



Then we left the main highway and turned onto Highway 1 to go along the coast.



We took a pit stop at the lovely Pelican Inn.  It’s so nice with an English pub and restaurant and an open fire on a brisk day.  Very cosy.




I spy something that starts with an O!  Ocean! 


We arrived!  Just in time to unpack, make dinner and build a fire.

Dear Mummy,

What a great night’s sleep we had!  We got up refreshed and decided to take a look around our little cabin.



It was nice to see the morning flowers.



Then later Miss Kate’s friend took us on a long walk along the cliff.  Miss Kate stayed near the fire with a magazine and said something about the bleeping cold.  I don’t know what bleeping means. 





What I didn’t tell you, Mum, is that it wasn’t just Tuli and me on this trip.  Carmen, Crawfish, Peach the Pooch and Aslan came with us.  We watched birds and played card games.



We also rather enjoyed the view!



As the sun went low in the sky, we watched the sun set and found ways to stay warm till bedtime.

Hello Mummy!

It was time to leave our lovely cabin at Steep Ravine.



But first we went to the town of Bolinas, where there are lots of artists and hippies and surfers.  This is Smileys, the oldest watering hole in all of California.






Then we drove out to the lagoon to look at the birds and harbor seals.


 





Then we crossed the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge to go home.  It was really fun!  I hope you can go with us next time!

We're having tea and thinking about you, Mummy, on your birthday. 

Hello Mummy!

We went to Davis this morning to have some coffee and drive around campus.



Do you recognize the backs of the heads of Tuli and Zarafeh? 
You can see from the signs that bicycles are very popular in Davis.  Probably because it’s the flattest place on earth. 




It’s Sunday morning so quiet but you can see there are still a lot of bikes.  Students and teachers and hippies and alternative-lifestylists just biking from the pizza places to the libraries to the coffee shops to the Thai restaurants. 



The trees are changing colors and look quite pretty! 



We also drove around campus.



We drove by the U.C. Davis Arboretum.  Can you see the little signs with the plants?



It was only 15 miles back to Sacramento, so we took the scenic route and went on an overpass that shows the city from a distance.





There were more pretty trees on the road home.

Hello Mummy!  Happy Season!

On Friday it was time to get a tree.  Miss Kate took Tuli and me along.  Yay!



This is a funny picture.  I think the kids just spotted a squirrel in the tree.



A bit pricey, but we're with "big spender" here! 



We found a good one, and some manly men had the job of carrying it and stuffing it in the car.  But I supervised. 

I think it'll be a nice Christmas tree.

Merry Christmas, Mummy!

We went traveling for Christmas and on our way we stopped for a snack at the lovely artsy town of Occidental.  We also found this cool map of the town.  You can see all the little streets, and it looks like it's its own little world.  It was so pretty, too, with the sparkly lights and frost on the ground and the sheep and cows and rolling green hills.

Hello Mummy!

Here are some pics of me at the Russian River and driving into the town of Jenner, where the river runs into the Pacific Ocean.  Can you see the big pointed rocks far off to the left?  Those are in the ocean.  We stopped as well on the bluff a bit north of there when the sun was setting.  Also, Miss Kate's uncle just had to show you this old gangster car.  Lovely stops along our drive.

Hello again Mummy!

Here’s where we were staying for Christmas!  It was too dark to take pictures the night before, so we were up early and Tuli and I each claimed a chair for deer-watching purposes.

Miss Kate was just too cold to hang out with us outside. 

We also had some good seats inside for proper ocean-viewing.  But Miss Kate was also too cold inside.  She kept complaining about all the glass and metal and cool colors and wanted to build a big fire


(Hey, don't worry about the dog.  He was cool.)


Here are some cute little decorations.  But they weren't so little really in my opinion.  The tree and the sleigh were just right. 




Here’s a pretty watercolor painting.



Miss Kate failed miserably at figuring out how to start the fire in the screen on the left, so we enjoyed a fire in the screen on the right. 




We were getting ready for a big session of present-opening and a big brunch at Miss Kate’s family’s house later in the morning.  They don't live right on the ocean but up the hill in the woods.  I am so excited!  But first it was time to have a piece of toast to deal with our growling stomachs.

Hello Mummy!

Did I mention-deer watching?  On our way to the family house, there were so many deer right from the driveway.






After brunch, you can see everyone had so much fun opening presents!



Then Christmas night we drove deeper into the woods to a handmade log cabin.  There were tables everywhere and a giant tree harvested from their own personal forest. 




We were particularly interested in the desserts to be found on the stove.



I met a most beautiful rabbit.  Do you like her?



I hope, Mummy, you had a wonderful Christmas with as many good things in your heart and home as in your stocking!

Hey Mummy,

It's time to drive home, and we wanted to say goodbye to the ocean but had to face the cold and go outside in the "back yard" to bid a proper adieu to the ocean. 



We went down Highway 1, through Bodega Bay and Valley Ford ... then home!

Howdy Mummy!

Miss Kate's friend had some important errands in the Bay Area, so we all piled in to find what we find!







Here we were in Oakland at last!



We found a cool sculpture.




We found this awesome bookstore in Oakland.



And then visited Jack London Square there.  There were wolf prints everywhere.  Do you know who Jack London is?








Chicken and waffles I think is good soul food.  I'd love to try it some day, but we needed to go to the airport.
