Berlin, Germany - 8th June 2012

By: MA_17

Hey Mum,

back to the capital!
Today I visited the Brandenburg Gate. It is one of the most well-known landmarks of Berlin and Germany.

I went to the Museum Island, the northern half of an island in the Spree river in the central Mitte district of Berlin. It has about 5 big famous museums and is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
I took a picture in front of the Old National Gallery. It is a gallery showing a collection of Neoclassical, Romantic, Biedermeier, Impressionist and early Modernist artwork.

Then I went to the government area. I saw the German Bundestag which is located in the Reichstag Building. The centrepiece of the building is the generously glazed chamber that is crowned by the dome. A funnel with panes of mirror glass reflects the daylight from above into the chamber.
If you want to visit it, you have to ask for an entry few days before and give them your name and passport number. Poor me, I don't have a passport.

Hello Mom,

today we did a walk through the forest.

After a while we saw this beautiful bridge...

We went to the middle of the bridge and enjoyed the wonderful view over the lake.

Berlin, Germany - 10th June 2012

Hello Mommy,

today we "felt" some speed!
First Alex showed us the city highway of Berlin. Maybe we're allowed to travel with his car on it one day...

Then we heard some noise. A plane crossed our view. It was so close and SO BIG!

Alex showed us another place where we could get a really cool picture with a big plane. We had to wait a little bit longer and during this time we decided to take another lovely picture.

Then we heard the noise and whooohooo... Have a look!

Berlin, Germany - 18th June 2012

By: MA_17

Hello Mommy,

I did another little sightseeing tour.

First I visited the Victory Column. It is a major tourist attraction to the city of Berlin. Berliners, with their fondness for giving nicknames to buildings, call the statue Goldelse, meaning something like "Golden Lizzy".

Then I went to the other side of the city and saw the multi-use indoor arena O2 World. With a capacity of 17,000 people, it is home to the Eisbären Berlin ice hockey club and the ALBA Berlin basketball team, and is used for other ice hockey, basketball and handball matches as well as concerts.

Near this big hall I found the East Side Gallery, the international memorial for freedom, which is a 1.3 km long section of the Berlin Wall. The Gallery consists of 105 paintings by artists from all over the world, painted in 1990 on the east side of the Berlin Wall. Some of the pictures were renewed in 2009.

Mommy, do the cars at home look the same? :o

Yours Gypsy

host's mom's home, Germany - 23rd June 2012

Hello Mommy,

we did a road trip by car again.

We stopped to have a look at these beautiful purple flowers. I really like them.

Then we drove to the vegetable field to check out when it is time to harvest. Hmm, I think we have to wait a few more days.

We stopped again near some flowers and took one into our car. Isn't it beautiful?

Then we drove and drove and drove... until we arrived on a sunny place.

We decided to do a picnic. Alex put lots of stuff to eat and drink into the trunk. Brilliant kitty!

We enjoyed our picnic! We all got some lemonade and fruits. The mice got some cheese. We also had chicken, sausages and cake. Alex decided to drink milk instead of lemonade. ;) It was so delicious!

When we all were full we put the leftovers back into the trunk and drove home. We used a fast street, of course! :cyclops:

Berlin, Germany - 24th June 2012

By: MA_17

Hey Mom,

today I walked along the river Spree. It is the main river of Berlin. It is approximately 400 kilometres (250 mi) in length. One of the many bridges in Berlin is the Moltke Bridge, one of the most beautiful ones I think. The bridge was completed in 1891 and is named after Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke the Elder (1800–1891), chief of staff of the Prussian Army for thirty years.

Behind the bridge you can see the "Federal Chancellery". The inhabitants of Berlin call it "Waschmaschine" (washing machine).

Here you can see the Haus der Kulturen der Welt ("House of the Cultures of the World" ). It is Germany's national centre for contemporary non-European art. It presents art exhibitions, theater and dance performances, concerts, author readings, films and academic conferences on non-European Visual Art and culture. This building is a gift from the United States, designed in 1957. John F. Kennedy spoke here during his June 1963 visit to West Berlin. To Berliners it is also known as the Schwangere Auster ("pregnant oyster" ).

This is the Bismarck Memorial. It is a prominent memorial statue dedicated to Prince Otto von Bismarck, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Prussia and the first Chancellor of the German Empire.

Now I'm leaving Berlin. Mommy, one day we'll travel to that city together and I will show you everything.

Mommy, I'm on tour again!

Today I left Berlin. Sean also left to his first adventure. All the others cuddled us.

Then we crawled into the envelope and left the city.

You'll here from me in a few days when I arrived at my next host.

Dear Mum

Today I had a look around the city centre where I saw a lot of old buildings and walked through narrow streets. I saw the castle from a distance and crossed the Old Bridge.

Today I explored the mountains north of the river Neckar. The "Heiligenberg" was quite a busy place in the past. People of Celtic origin already settled there in pre-historic times and in the Middle Ages two monasteries were built on the mountain. Nowadays it's a nature reserve.
