Middlesborough, England - 31st August 2012

By: miapearl

We have come on holiday!
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-JL70I4ysaco/UEo3nDQNJaI/AAAAAAAAHM0/PkN8AYwMh6s/s500/tbridge3.jpg
This is Middlesborough's Transporter Bridge. We were too late to go on it last night.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-W-Y7GfR1BAg/UEo3uWXSfYI/AAAAAAAAHM8/amHw6GjrVcs/s500/tbridge4.jpg
There is room for upto 9 cars, and footpassengers stay in the sides.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-xMzGq-vUo4A/UEo4INUG_1I/AAAAAAAAHNU/PqEJldx_ips/s500/tbridge8.jpg
However, we've come back today and are allowed to go on this. Getting ready to leave.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-VadC5dh9mCM/UEo4nJFjBHI/AAAAAAAAHN8/LZMaNkhqL4o/s500/tbridge13.jpg
The journey across was quick.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-eR8sCxCiLy0/UEo4sD0J8oI/AAAAAAAAHOE/_IGSR3gTiFo/s500/tbridge14.jpg
The deck has already returned to the other side.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EAzCvebuHkc/UEo4-XY7t2I/AAAAAAAAHOc/XAHGNQFwmIo/s500/tbridge17.jpg
It is coming back again.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hqRPLaxl-xk/UEo5KMlEToI/AAAAAAAAHOs/jAMDhxUZGTA/s500/tbridge19.jpg
Nearly there.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-r3bISBR3u38/UEo5Qr9p22I/AAAAAAAAHO0/fLx10zh12Hg/s500/tbridge20.jpg
We'd better get back so we can make the return trip.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-U9wQ93tcF7E/UEo5Ww6CKlI/AAAAAAAAHO8/vwqZCQLN7W4/s500/tbridge21.jpg
On the way back across.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IEj4y18xNIU/UEo5nm2SMGI/AAAAAAAAHPU/fh_lNLkyrkg/s500/tbridge24.jpg
Near the bridge is a museum, but we didn't take any photographs. We came back out to see the deck coming back.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fDaVlErL5uM/UE5IFE1UwfI/AAAAAAAAHao/BVV7Kd-TZw8/s500/tb1.jpg
It has gone back across the river.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9GUBbYbTIUU/UE5Au_ii7NI/AAAAAAAAHZU/3OaAkJ4u1r4/s500/tb9.jpg
This is a great view from the side to see the bridge in action.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-pn-u3yKP2gs/UE5Awp41rZI/AAAAAAAAHZc/CYTSJFIqpto/s500/tb10.jpg
It is an interesting bridge.

By: miapearl

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-KHWdD5xlNaw/UEo7UPV7X9I/AAAAAAAAHTE/1bx8m2Uy6ks/s500/whitby18.jpg
We have arrived in Whitby. Our first stop is the Dracula Museum.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-iNChE3H1XIQ/UEo5uzAplYI/AAAAAAAAHPs/yEOvHl2rNFI/s500/drac3.jpg
It is a bit spooky but I am not scared.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-AEZ8eX516e8/UEo6PxDQ5SI/AAAAAAAAHRU/pvyqaWmIX30/s500/whitby4.jpg
Next, we watched a replica of HMS Endeavour (the original sailed under Captain Cook) take a group out for a little trip.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-wnTpvJX52fE/UEo6cyfjsVI/AAAAAAAAHRk/sXb82aUAans/s500/whitby6.jpg
And then we visited the lifeboat museum. This display has information on some call-outs. Unfortunately, the trawler Admiral Von Tromp got into difficulty and not everyone could be saved.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-EIwMKu2gbcA/UEo6yRx0bOI/AAAAAAAAHSE/qYtbaDit78Q/s500/whitby10.jpg
Cork lifebelt.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-9Xijit4ZwVg/UEo7DERClyI/AAAAAAAAHSs/sTZT9VL7N5Y/s500/whitby15.jpg

Brussels, Belgium - 27th October 2012

By: marcie08

Hi Mom!

I have arrived in Brussels! The city of chocolate  B)

We did some sightseeing around the inner city, watched the painters on Grand Place, wandered around the streets.
We did some window shopping to look for presents to take home with us. We also saw Maneken Pis - a rather unusual fountain  ;) and some of his costumes. Belgium is also known for the comics, and you can find them as murals on the houses!

There were some beautiful old houses and also nice looking parks, where I smelled some roses!
We then enjoyed tea in a small street café.

Bye for now!

Vienna, Austria - 30th October 2012

By: marcie08

Hi Mom!

Here I am at work with my hostmom! I helped answering the phone, made some copies, helped to type stuff...

I also met two new friends: A Swiss cow and a frog called Jean-Pascal.

They made a boring day at the office fun :) and then I discovered the sweet stuff  ;)

Servus!

Vienna, Austria - 4th November 2012

By: marcie08

Hi Mom!

Today we were invited to a dinner for a little celebration.
We toasted with champagne and then had some traditional Austrian food: Schweinsbraten (pork roast) with dumplings and potatoes.

I was stuffed afterwards and had to sleep the roast off  ;)
