berlin, germany - 15th June 2012

By: orangesunshine

hello mommy. yesterday i visited the east side gallery. it is the longest open air gallery in the world: nearly one mile. the paintings have been painted on the left overs of the berlin wall near the town centre. very interesting and funny paintings. the is how the artists have seen the changes that took place in those days.

i have made a couple of pictures. enjoy.
bye bye see you later, *fanti*

berlin, germany - 16th June 2012

By: orangesunshine

hello mommy.
since the wheather is too bad today ad i have been here for nearly two weeks, hannibal suggested to have a look into my to-do-list. ok let's see:

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-16-01.jpg
first page: three items are done:
- i have visited a capital city = berlin is doubtless a capital city.
- i have met another elephant = hannibal is one - and here is a whole of other elephants that i have met.
- i have started a collection of blue things = this biro is the first item.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-16-02.jpg
ooops - yet nothing on page two ...
but learning an instrument is an option, such as exploring a castle and going to a flea market.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-16-03.jpg
page three: does a ride on the underground count as a train ride?

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-16-04.jpg
last page: i put all the photos into my travelog! of course.

so, there are still some things to do!  :p

be curious, mommy ... *fanti*

@jethro: i will be first!  B)

... and martin luther, the guy that translated the bible into german. he was born here.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-22-07.jpg

eisleben is 28 miles away from berlin, 28 prussian miles, that means 28 houres on horseback.

aehm, i forgot who this was ... sorry ...

here voltaire and i thought we were lost ...
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-22-10.jpg

... but then we found a water castle.

this castle has got a café ...
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-22-16.jpg

... and a gaol, where thomas muentzer was arrested. you don't know who this was? he was the leader in the 16th century farmers' revolution

and it has frogs on a fountain. i get hungry again.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-23-06.jpg

gotha, germany - 24th June 2012

By: orangesunshine

hi folks! this is fanti speaking.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-01.jpg
today we left early to visit an old emperor, a very old one.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-02.jpg
first we climbed a tower and enjoyed the panorama.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-05.jpg
someone told us we would find our old emperor here.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-06.jpg
but all we have found were the ruins of a castle.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-07.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-08.jpg
really mommy, we haven't broken it. it was deserted before!

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-03.jpg
finally we found good old barbarossa, emperor of the holy roman empire of german nation. so long he must have sat there on his throne that he was petrified.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-04.jpg

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-09.jpg
in the afternoon we reached gotha, a very nice little town ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-10.jpg
... with a big residential palace.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-12.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-11.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-13.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-14.jpg
this is the old townhall.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-24-15.jpg
then it was time to return to berlin.

cheerio mommy and everyone at home - see you!  B)

berlin, germany - 29th June 2012

By: orangesunshine

hello mommy.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-29-01.jpg
after a strong coffee in the morning ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-29-02.jpg
... we (hannibal and me) went to ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-29-03.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-29-04.jpg
... see an old airport.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-29-05.jpg
tempelhof airport was built in 1936, but hasn't been finished before worldwar two. but for its concept of a then modern international aiport it was called the mother of airports. it has been closed a couple of years ago.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-29-07.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-29-08.jpg
the airport got world famous during the airlift in 1948/49 when american, british and french airforces brought food and other goods to the blocked city of west berlin. here you can see the airlift memorial monument.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-29-06.jpg
and this was the man who organised the airlift: lucius d. clay.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-29-09.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-29-10.jpg
it really is a huge building.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-29-11.jpg
bye bye mommy! see you in a couple of days ...

ps: yesterday we have checked my to-do-list:
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-27-01.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-27-02.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-06-27-03.jpg
i am quite good with it. jethro, my brother, be aware: i will be first!  ;)

berlin, germany - 1st July 2012

By: orangesunshine

hello mommy. hi jethro, old cookie crumbler!
today was the perfect day for something very special.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-02.jpg
no perfect day should ever start without a perfect breakfast with friends.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-03.jpg
... and jam!

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-04.jpg
then we went to the town centre.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-05.jpg
perfect wheather for a DICE WALK!

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-06.jpg
all you need is a die, which would tell you were to go. so we marked a die: S for straight ahead, L for left and R for right turn. so you would be lead to areas where you normally would not come to. we have made a lot of photos of buildings, streets and other stuff. not every photo needs an explanation, some are just there to look at them.

ok, let's start! first corner, the die said "left".

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-07.jpg
so we started at the former postfuhramt. it is where all parcels and lettres came into town from abroad and had been packed to cars to be delivered to the people. now it is an art gallery.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-08.jpg
on our way we have seen a lot of funny graffitis.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-09.jpg
next corner: the die said "right".

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-10.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-11.jpg
sometimes when throwing the die it tells you to go through a backyard. well: dice walk is dice walk.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-12.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-13.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-14.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-15.jpg
"claichens ballhaus" - an old beer garden and a ball room in a run down house. time for a little beer.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-16.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-17.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-18.jpg
next corner: "straight".

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-19.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-20.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-21.jpg
"straight" again.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-22.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-23.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-24.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-25.jpg
time for a coffee at "hackbarth's".

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-26.jpg
after the coffee we had to turn left.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-27.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-28.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-29.jpg
oh, look: the television tower at alexander square.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-30.jpg
next turn - left again.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-31.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-32.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-33.jpg
what ever this would mean ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-34.jpg
hey, there is still an R on the die!

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-35.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-36.jpg
sometimes people see stars in this town.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-38.jpg
left ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-39.jpg
... but first - a short break in the sun. thanks to who ever placed this sofa out here!

left again.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-44.jpg

next corner: left ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-50.jpg
hm ... let's see.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-51.jpg

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-55.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-56.jpg

what an exquisite colour!

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-61.jpg
hey: "sopie's corner" - let's have a drink and continue.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-62.jpg
left ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-63.jpg

saint sophie's church was closed for renovation.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-66.jpg
berlin's smallest beergarden. time for another beer? yes, of course!

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-67.jpg
a chilled beer is a good base for a burger.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-68.jpg
then: right turn.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-78.jpg
what a pity. left looks also interesting.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-01-79.jpg
this is a little detour ...

hello mommy.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/2012-07-06-01.jpg
today i was sitting with my new friends here and we were discussing about what to do this weekend.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/2012-07-06-03.jpg
suddenly the two big elephants brought a heavy parcel.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/2012-07-06-04.jpg
they placed it right in the middle.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/2012-07-06-05.jpg
then we opened it.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/2012-07-07-07.jpg
inside was a little fluffy bunny. he introduced himself as kuzma from russia.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/2012-07-06-11.jpg
hey, another toyvoyager and he brought chocolat from switzerland where he was staying before.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/2012-07-06-15.jpg
we talked the whole evening.

bye bye mommy, many kisses from your fanti

frankfurt and kostrzyn, germany and poland - 9th July 2012

By: orangesunshine

hello mommy. yesterday was an interesting day: we went to frankfurt on the oder.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-breakfast.jpg
but first: a good brealfast, you know!

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/2012-07-08-01.jpg
we were there together with gwenelle and kuzma who are also staying at my host's.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-01.jpg
we have made a sightseeing walk through the town.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-03.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-02.jpg
this is the tower of saint mary's church.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-04.jpg
and this is the door ... let's go inside.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-05.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-06.jpg

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-08.jpg
it was fun to walk on the model of the church.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-09.jpg
here you see the old townhall.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-10.jpg
this is the river oder. on the other side is poland.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-11.jpg

this is saint nicolai's church.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-14.jpg
then we had the idea to cross the river ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-15.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-16.jpg
... and visit slubice in poland.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-18.jpg
view back to frankfurt

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-21.jpg
not far away from frankfurt we found something very interesting: kostrzyn, a former german town, but totally destroyed in the last world war.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-08-22.jpg
here you could only find some streets and some left overs of the buildings.

on our way back to berlin we stopped at these beautiful sunflowers.

mommy, see you soon *fanti*

berlin - spandau, germany - 13th July 2012

By: orangesunshine

hello mommy. yesterday we have visited the citadel in spandau - hey jethro: this was my SECOND REAL CASTLE! hehehehe ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-breakfast-01.jpg
but first: BREAKFAST!

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-01.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-02.jpg
the citadel is the best preserved renaissance fortress in germany.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-03.jpg
this is albrecht the bear, the first german marquis of brandenburg many many years ago. when lived here, this fortress wasn't even built.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-04.jpg
here they stored lots of counts, marquises and kings. they have got so old, that they were petrified. and now nobody knows were to put them.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-05.jpg
some even have lost their head. poor guys. it is so sad if nobody wants you because you are old.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-06.jpg
this is the old palace, the main building of the citadel. you can see, that it was refurbished a lot: some windows have been closed and removed, some have been added.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-07.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-08.jpg
the citadel also had a secret little harbour.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-09.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-10.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-11.jpg
and a smith's workshop.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-12.jpg
this is the main tower of the citadel: julius's tower.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-13.jpg
we decided this was a good time and place for a pic nic. (jethro: this is number 73 of my to-do-list.)  ;)
gwenelle and kuzma joined us.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-14.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-15.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-16.jpg
ok: plate is empty, let's move further.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-17.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-18.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-19.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-20.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-21.jpg
look what we found: a pilory. an ancient punishment instrument: in the hole they put the hand of a delinquent, in the middle his head and in the right his foot. an uncomfortable position! good that we are too small for this.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-22.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-12-23.jpg
the prussian eagle: FR stands for fridericus rex. every second of the prussian kings were called fridrich. the others were called wilhelm. some could not decide, they were called friedrich wilhelm.

berlin, germany - 15th July 2012

By: orangesunshine

hello mommy.
yesterday after the heavy rain i have visited the town centre and the government district together with hannibal. he always knows where to go and what to explore.  :D

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-01.jpg
first station was the world famous brandenburg gate.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-02.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-03.jpg
this was the viewfrom the gate down the boulevard "unter den linden" (under the linden trees). far behind you can see the television tower at alexander square.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-04.jpg
many tourists. they all wanted to see the gate.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-05.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-06.jpg
then we went to the reichstagsgebaeude, the building of the german federal paliament. many puddles were in front of it due to the rain this morning.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-07.jpg
here we were at the new built berlin main station.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-08.jpg
it is a very big station: some platforms are underground ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-09.jpg
... some are overground.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-10.jpg
ooooooh ... this is deep!

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-11.jpg
view from the station to the government district.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-12.jpg
here you see spree river. what looks like a giant washing machine there behind is the federal chancellory, where the chancellor works: "huhu, angy!"

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-13.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-14.jpg
then we found the "kongresshalle" (conference hall), built in the 1950s as a present of the u.s. american people to the city of berlin. very nice present.
the berliners call this building the "pregnant oyster" LOL! some say it looks like the smiling mouth of jimmy carter.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-15.jpg
we have also seen bellevue castle, where the federal president resides. yes, germany also has a president.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-16.jpg
next to bellevue (means "good view") we found the victory column withe golden angel on top.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-17.jpg
then we reached the culture forum with the berlin philharmonic building.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-18.jpg
ooops, how strange is this?

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-19.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-2012-07-14-20.jpg
we ate a good dinner at sony centre.

bye bye mommy, see you soon *fanti*  :)

berlin, germany - 15th July 2012

By: orangesunshine

by the way: besides seeing all the sights of this big town i have had some other things to do:

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-allerhand-01.jpg
my new friends taught me how to play the ukulele. ok, not alone, as a small elephant you need help from your friends.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-allerhand-02.jpg
here we have given a small concert.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-allerhand-03.jpg
i have also learnt to play the accordion.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-allerhand-04.jpg
the two strong green mammoths were to make the air for our music session.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-allerhand-05.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-allerhand-06.jpg
when the weather was not too good we played board games. sometimes i won!

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-allerhand-07.jpg
and i was allowed to cook yummy things - hmnjamnjamnjamnjamnjam ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-liebesbrief-01.jpg
there was something else i have done during my time here:

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-liebesbrief-02.jpg
i have writen a love lettre to my mommy.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-liebesbrief-03.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-liebesbrief-04.jpg
i have put a nice little poem in it, which i have learnt the other day.

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-liebesbrief-05.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-liebesbrief-06.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-liebesbrief-07.jpg
hannibal helped me to roll it ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-liebesbrief-08.jpg
... and fasten it ...

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-liebesbrief-09.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-liebesbrief-10.jpg
... put it into a bottle to be sent to you mommy!

http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-liebesbrief-11.jpg
http://www.guidoswelt.de/napoleon/fanti-liebesbrief-12.jpg
can you imagin how good it feels to write a love lettre to your mommy?

fanti loves you mommy!
