Homestead, Florida, United States - 9th December 2012

By: tarepanda

We are now back in Florida. Today we go visit an attraction called Coral Castle.  It's built by the man in the picture, Edward Leedskalnin.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00001_zps58078360.jpg

Well this is a very old sign. The admission is definitely not 10 cents now!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00004_zps66476d68.jpg

Hmm I wonder what we will see?

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00066_zps255b5dc0.jpg

There is a sign that says "Ring Bell Twice".  In the past, visitors would drop a coin and then ring the bell to enter.  Leedskalnin was very strict about "ring bell twice".  If the visitors rang it too many times or only once, he would not let them in till they got it right!  He sure sounds like a weird fellow!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00065_zps59972521.jpg

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00063_zpseedc6454.jpg

The whole place is built with big limestone!  According to our guide, the man who built the castle, Edward Leedskalnin, was eccentric indeed.  He came from Latvia after his sweet 16 broke up their engagement the night before marriage.  He lived alone and built this whole place by himself, craving and moving stones weighing many tons, never letting anyone see him work!  There is a lot of mysteries and legends about how he built the whole place, people claiming to peek in at night and saw him levitated the stones around!  Not to mention the man was only 5 ft tall!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00027_zpsb4bf38ee.jpg

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00020_zpsc88ded65.jpg

Here are some lounge chairs for you to rest in.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00008_zpsa0fa9a81.jpg

This board meeting table is craved in the shape of the state of Florida.  The puddle of water in the center is Lake Okeechobee.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00014_zpsaff7cdc0.jpg

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00010_zps82a9def8.jpg

These are the "beds" though they must be very uncomfortable.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00060_zpseaeba99e.jpg

And a bathtub!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00032_zps7e8efa9b.jpg

This table is carved in the shape of heart.  Some visitors liked to propose or renew their vows at this table.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00036_zps930dc976.jpg

The sundial is accurate within minutes, though I don't know how to read it!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00016_zpsa0053970.jpg

Oh a dungeon!  I wonder what creepy creatures live in there?  Well, our guide said this was where he stored his food, keeping it cool underground.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00030_zps38bae477.jpg

And a well for nice, cool water.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00038_zps6210d3aa.jpg

Guess what this is?  His stove!  He put food inside the metal ball, built a fire underneath, and the food would cook up nicely.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00045_zpsa6179f9c.jpg

This door was built so cleverly that even a child can push the stone door open, but sadly the mechanism is broken now and cannot be repaired.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00041_zpsdf3e64c5.jpg

We are shown where he dug the coral stone for his castle.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00043_zps8035090c.jpg

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00056_zpsb2cd2253.jpg

These are signs of different planets.  I bet it's great sitting here and watching the stars in the sky at night!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00058_zpsafc7ca93.jpg

It's impressive indeed!  Very beautiful and we cannot imagine how a man was able to build the whole thing back in 1930s without any help from machine or men!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00055_zps471371e1.jpg

We went up the second floor of the the building. (How did he even build this? He must be a wizard!)

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00051_zps0af031dd.jpg

This is the bed he slept in.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00049_zps08eee05a.jpg

Everything looked somewhat primitive.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/DSC00050_zpsb2838b93.jpg

Quite an interesting tour indeed!

Today we are going out to visit some place.

Hmm, what does it say on the sign?

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2012/DSC00081_zps1970414f.jpg

Ah, it's the Thai Buddhist Temple in South Florida.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2012/DSC00082_zpsf791ce43.jpg

The building sure looks unusual.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2012/DSC00085_zps5697c67f.jpg

The entrance to the temple looks very grand, and there are two golden lions guarding it.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2012/DSC00069_zps5d976885.jpg

The inside looks equally grand!  The Buddha statue was sculpted in Bangkok and is 23 feet high and weighs 5 tons.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2012/DSC00073_zps3882c78e.jpg

Wow this gong must make very very loud noise!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2012/DSC00074_zps52dd8928.jpg

These chairs are for monks to sit in.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2012/DSC00075_zpse631f08f.jpg

A monk there is very happy to see us.  He gives everybody a string of prayer beads and sprinkle water on us as blessing.

Wow looks like we have another TV joining us!  Who's he? Who's he?

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00391_zps9022f8f7.jpg

Oh it's  a moose.  Mocha is very happy to finally see another moose friend.  He says there are too many rats and mice in the house.  He is joking of course.  Anyway, we give Jasper a good welcome party!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00393_zps47b17188.jpg

Mocha He proudly introduce Jasper  to his grandpapa, Cappuccino.  His Grandpapa is too old to travel but he loves having visitors.  Then he can tell his stories all over again. (Not that he doesn't repeat his stories with us...

Today we are going to see a Cirque du Soleil show!  They are a famous circus group from Canada.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00168_zps119d1e69.jpg

Look at the colorful tents!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00166_zpsb06227df.jpg

The show has not started yet, so we browse around the shop where they sell T shirts and other things.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00175_zpsf71ee704.jpg

There are also souvenir books, CDs and more for those who want to relive the show.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00178_zps085c80f1.jpg

You can also buy pop corns, pretzels, drinks and other snacks.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00172_zpsda174f3f.jpg

We finally get inside and watch the show!  It's very good!

Miami, Florida, United States - 17th February 2013

Today the weather is very nice, and we go to the farmer's market.

Naturally, we shop for some fresh, local vegetables.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00222_zps406289fe.jpg

There are many varieties of tomatoes.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00219_zpsd3d509a4.jpg

Wow they have lobsters too!  Unlike Maine lobster, Florida lobster do not have the big pincher claws.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00215_zpsbdb82979.jpg

This stall makes conch fritters, and conch salad, a specialty of South Florida and the Caribbeans.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00218_zps2fd1ffe7.jpg

There are a lot of food.  This French (looking) guy is making crepe.  It looks delicious!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00252_zps9cf01919.jpg

We see this stall selling things with an ocean motif.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00242_zpsec8051a6.jpg

They have bags too with seahorses, shells and other decorations.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00253_zps95366e5d.jpg

We buy some local honey.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00251_zpse76436d1.jpg

Look they even have local rice grown in Florida!  Florida is actually the 7th largest rice-growing state in the U.S, but most of its production is used locally, as there is a heavy population of South American immigrants whose main starch is rice rather than potatoes.  It is used as a cover crop in sugarcane fields during the fallow period.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00250_zpsc5ff18a4.jpg

Here are some home-made cookies.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00245_zps18ed3e26.jpg

These are empanadas, stuffed pastries.  There are many varieties, filled with different types of meat, vegetables and cheeses.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00244_zps711fd20f.jpg

These hand made soaps look very pretty!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00241_zpsf532393b.jpg

Oh the popcorn smells so delicious!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00238_zpsbbc9a5c8.jpg

There are flowers for sell.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00237_zpsca6aff65.jpg

These dwarf trees are called bonsai.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00234_zps456eb517.jpg

We can pick up some spices and herbs.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00233_zps47ad5b3c.jpg

Or some blend of tea.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00230_zps8fb9ad5c.jpg

We sample some of the home made dried fruits.  Yummy!!  The market is a lot of fun!

Pinecrest, Florida, United States - 23rd February 2013

By: tarepanda

Today we visit a place called Pinecrest Garden.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00282_zpsd29c6e2a.jpg

These are some pretty flowers!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00279_zpscba24624.jpg

The garden has been around for a while so the tropical foliage is very thick.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00278_zps1977849d.jpg

It feels like we are in a jungle!  I hope there's no tiger!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00272_zpsb9305e43.jpg

Look at this fruit!  I wonder what it is?

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00267_zps23b5d612.jpg

We see some bamboo too.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00266_zpsaf84b01d.jpg

We come to a different part of the garden.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00261_zpseaceb4a4.jpg

Here people can enjoy a picnic and just sit and relax.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00262_zpsbbef0db6.jpg

We see a swam!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00260_zps10491283.jpg

The lotus flowers are very beautiful.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00257_zps45f0dc3e.jpg

Wow look at this banyan tree!  Banyan tree is special because when its air root touches ground, it will grow into another trunk, so all you see here is just one tree.  As a result, one tree can grow to cover a big area.  Covering 2/3 acre, this tree is among the largest of its kind!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00256_zpsb8dcf4cb.jpg

Tarpon Springs, Florida, United States - 3rd March 2013

By: tarepanda

This weekend we visit Tarpon Springs.  It is a small town on the west coast of Florida.  It used to be famous for its sponge production back from 1880s.  Back in 1950s the sponge industry made millions of dollars a year.  Nowadays, due to the high costs and water condition, very little sponge is produced and the place is mostly a tourist attraction.  However, the town continues to have the highest percentage of Greek American in the whole country, many descendants of the divers who immigrated during the sponge industry boom.

First on the agenda: visit a Greek restaurant to try some Greek food.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00401_zps889c5339.jpg

We are ordering the gyros.  It is a sandwich, with some grilled lamb & beef wrapped in a pita bread, with some tomato, cucumber, onion and tzasiki sauce.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00397_zps446d9a4e.jpg

Look at all the pita bread!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00400_zpsf0dcebe2.jpg

Can you see the roaster where the meat is grilled?

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00404_zpsdf855427.jpg

Our gryos has arrived.  We also have a lamb souvlaki, similar to gryos but with lamb inside.  They are both very delicious.

Tarpon Springs, Florida, United States - 4th March 2013

By: tarepanda

Today we visit the Sponge Dock.

There is a statue memorizing all the sponge divers who had lost their lives when sponge harvesting.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00409_zpse63b02b6.jpg

This is an example of a sponge boat.  Maybe we should go and try harvest some sponge?

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00410_zpsa19b871d.jpg

Or maybe not.  I don't want to be shark dinner.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00412_zps76397554.jpg

It's safer to go to check out the shops.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00415_zps0f4b40e3.jpg

What do they have?

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00418_zps2bb44c9e.jpg

Lots of sponges!!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00419_zps18155f63.jpg

This one is called finger sponge.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00420_zpseaad84ea.jpg

This one is your plain old yellow sponge.  And the sign says it's harvested locally!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00421_zpsd4232a1e.jpg

And these are vase sponges!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00427_zps8412d766.jpg

These are called sea biscuits but I don't think they are very tasty.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00423_zps0a346609.jpg

And these are sand dollars.  You can find them on the beaches, though usually not as complete as this. They are the skeletons of sea urchins, although in folk legends, they were thought to be the coins lost by mermaids or people of the Atlantis.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00429_zps465dc2bc.jpg

Ah, I know these!  Star fishes!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00428_zps3f52ba37.jpg

Next we go to a Greek bakery.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00430_zpsf5129f19.jpg

There are many kind of sweet pastries, like bavlaka.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00435_zps7e099ce1.jpg

Our host gets some of her favorite, diples.  It's a roll made from a thin sheet of fried dough and drizzled with honey.

Tampa, Florida, United States - 7th March 2013

By: tarepanda

Today we are going on a trip to Tampa, on the west coast of Florida.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00543_zps380ef6c5.jpg

Look there is a bridge coming up.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00550_zps8ff92555.jpg

This is the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.  The Travel Channel rated the Sunshine Skyway #3 in its special on the "Top 10 Bridges" in the World.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00552_zps9111b3f5.jpg

We come to visit the Cigar City Brewery.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00441_zps0573a460.jpg

The brewery was first built in Ybor City, which is a historic neighborhood in Tampa founded in the 1880s by cigar manufacturers.  Later it moved this current location, hence the saying on the sign.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00439_zps783e5af4.jpg

Here is the star of today!  The special brew, Hunahpu, which is available only on this day of the year, which we come here for.  Each person can buy only 3 bottles at $20 each.  The limited release bottle has received very high rating among drinkers and can fetch up to USD $200 on ebay.  People from all over the country come to line up from early in the morning to buy it.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00493_zps5b5dcab3.jpg

There are some food trucks here, because we all love some food to go with our beer!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00445_zps2cf8b602.jpg

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00486_zpsca9403b0.jpg

Some people bring their own chairs, coolers filled with beers, and food to just enjoy a nice day out here.  They chat, drink beer, and listen to the band playing.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00446_zps6d93d27b.jpg

There is a booth selling cigars made in Ybor City.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00463_zpsefccbffd.jpg

Let's check out the tasting room!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00481_zps72c0ddc9.jpg

The brewery has won a lot of awards, which they proudly display.

Have you ever tried a Brazilian churrascaria? Today we are going to a Brazilian steakhouse.  At this one, instead of Rodizio style, which means the waiters bring the meat to you, it's self service.

Ah, I think we find the right place.  We can see the Brazilian flag on the sign.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00290.jpg

This is the name of the restaurant.  It means Rice and Beans, but our host assures us that we will get a lot more than that.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00292.jpg

Mmm it sounds good.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00306.jpg

Here is a poster reminding us that the 2014 World Cup will be in Brazil!  Hmmm needs to start planning my trip there!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00309.jpg

We sip some cold, refreshing cashew juice while reading the menu.  The juice is make from the cashew fruit, where the cashew nut is actually the seed of the fruit.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00293.jpg

At the buffet line you can see the salad and dessert.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00300.jpg

This is the grill where they have various cuts of meat: sirloin, chicken, pork loin, filet mignon, flank steak, sausages, and more.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00305.jpg

You let them know what meat you like and they cut it for you.  At fancier place you will have waiters come by to your table with the sword skewer of meat.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00304.jpg

Bom apetite!!

Today we go to visit a Free Little Library.  These are the books we are bringing.  We register them on BookCrossing first.  BookCrossing is like toyvoyagers, every book gets an ID number and it travels around the round.  By reading the book's journal you can find out where the book has gone and what its readers say about it.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00140.jpg

The Little Free Library is an organization that promotes setting up little "library" boxes in communities around the world, to encourage people to gather together, and to promote read.  People are welcome to visit the libraries to take and leave books.

We put our books into the library, and check to see if there is anything interesting.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00142.jpg

Hmmm, maybe we can just live here for a few days and enjoy some books?  It would be nice and cozy here.  Hey can you bring us some snack?

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00144.jpg

Today we go to visit a microbrewery.  It's called Due South.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00313.jpg

This little sign says: "Drink Like A Local" which we certainly would today!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00316.jpg

Here is a sign marking all the microbrewery nearby.  The Cigar City Brewery, which we visited a few weeks ago, is 219 miles away on the west coast.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00333.jpg

You can also get some souvenir t-shirts.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00327.jpg

Look at all the fermentation tanks!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00338.jpg

We can see packs of ingredients lying around.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00339.jpg

These are the malt barley, a major ingredient in making beer.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00340.jpg

You can see the brew kettles on the left, where they add the barley.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00351.jpg

The grain after using in the beer will be given to nearby farmers.  I am sure that will feed some happy animals!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00363.jpg

We notice that all the tanks are named after Space Shuttles!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00364.jpg

These are some apple brandy barrels, used to brew some special edition beer.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00348.jpg

Now is time to enjoy some beer.  We go to the bar area.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00331.jpg

Hmm which one shall we order?

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00347.jpg

We go to the lounge to enjoy our beer.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00325.jpg

There are lots of beer-related arts on the walk.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00321.jpg

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00317.jpg

Some are made with beer bottle caps.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00326.jpg

Yessir, we are doing our part: Support Florida breweries and drinking like a local!!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00320.jpg

Ahh it's delicious!!

Pinecrest, Florida, United States - 27th April 2013

By: tarepanda

If you think we've been drinking a lot lately, well, today for a change, we are going to eat a lot!!  We are going to this event called Taste of Pinecrest.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00623.jpg

Mmmm these cupcakes and lollipops look GOOD!!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00616.jpg

This stall sells different types of french fries, wrapped in newspaper-looking grease paper.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00613.jpg

Machu Picchu is the "Lost City of the Incas".  So this must be a Peruvian restaurant!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00610.jpg

It's a rather hot day and great for some snow cone.  Which flavor would you like?

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00609.jpg

This is a big plate of pulled pork.  It's pork barbecue where the pork, after slow cooking, is tender enough to be pulled into shreds.  It is then mixed with barbecue sauce.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00605.jpg

Hamburger, anyone?

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00600.jpg

You can also get some delicious and healthy smoothie.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00601.jpg

There is a band playing music.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00606.jpg

There is also a line of food trucks, for even more options.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00596.jpg

It's not easy at all deciding what to try!!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00599.jpg

When you eat so much your clothes feel tight, you can do some shopping here as well!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00595.jpg

There are also some games for children.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00593.jpg

I sure hope they haven't eaten too much food... I know I can't be swinging around and bouncing up and down with all the food in my stomach!!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00590.jpg

Hollywood, Florida, United States - 18th May 2013

By: tarepanda

Today we go to see something very American!!

No, I don't mean the Hard Rock cafe or casino, though that's very American...

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00680.jpg

Let's follow the sign...  to the American Indian pow wow!!  The Seminole tribe owns the casino, that's why there is an Indian village and a pow wow here.  It may sound weird, but because it has been determined that the Native Americans are here before the white American government, they do not have to abide by many laws of the U.S. govt and do not pay tax.  As a result, many tribes open casinos because it's such a profitable business for them...

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00686.jpg

There is no big prairie here, the dancing are done inside a stadium.  We see them all dressed up ready to dance.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00704.jpg

First they say a prayer and then introduces the little Miss and Mister Seminole.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00729.jpg

Next all the dancers come out in a parade.  It's leaded by the warriors.  Following behind are the little Miss and Mister Seminole.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00707.jpg

Look at the beautiful outfit!!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00715.jpg

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00740.jpg

The face paint makes them look very fierce!!  I don't think I will like to encounter them in a woods!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00716.jpg

The ladies look very graceful in their buckskin dresses.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00776.jpg

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00774.jpg

Do you see how the little toddler is dressed up like his father?

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00755.jpg

The drummers sit in a circle.  I can't imagine how they can sit down in their outfit!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00768.jpg

They have competition where different dances were performed.  There are different themes and traditions.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00771.jpg

This is the Southern tradition.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00792.jpg

This one is called Grass Dancing.  The head dress makes us think of moth antennae.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00798.jpg

There are many stalls at the pow wow.

Look at all the moccasins!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00687.jpg

These jewelries are very beautiful.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00691.jpg

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00784.jpg

There are some paintings.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00815.jpg

The traditional Seminole clothings are very colorful.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00786.jpg

These pendants are made with tiny beads.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00785.jpg

Mickey Mouse moccasins!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00783.jpg

There are also books and CDs.  Sherman Alexie is one of our host's favorite author.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u314/azuki726/toy%20voyagers/2013/DSC00779.jpg
