Bruchsal, Germany - 9th October 2013

By: fam-united

After many days with rainy weather we finally had the chance to go outside. We decided to go on a walk through the so called Stadtwald, a wood, which belongs to Bruchsal.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3830/11028108684_a1df61caa2.jpg

Here you see the result of what happens, if bark beetles hit a tree.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5538/11027954505_b72057e2d4.jpg

The tree, which you see behind, which is snapped off, also had the bark beetles.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7426/11027953565_99a4da1e60.jpg

Usually this tree doesn't lose it's needles.

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2881/11028164753_28dbb4ecca.jpg

This is the place, where my host's class will lay out a field of walnuts and black walnuts in end of November.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7372/11028099414_346d2e6d3f.jpg

We found a tree, where deers rub their antlers.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3684/11028098674_d174b11d17.jpg

Not far away from this place we saw a deeryard.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5540/11028094504_daf79dc4c2.jpg

There are many badger sets, too.

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2822/11028149053_6c73f5c6e7.jpg

Parts of the forest seem like a jungle.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3688/11028086744_ae9b2d7052.jpg

The fields are harvested and the trees are beautiful in their colours now.

Bruchsal, Germany - 18th October 2013

By: fam-united

The weather was nice again, so we decided to go on another walk. We passed the church St. Peter. It is a beautiful baroque church, which is located next to the graveyard.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3692/11028011316_dd3db3494f.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7370/11028066054_ebeebe8ede.jpg

During World War II. about 80 % of Bruchsal was destroyed, but there are still some nice houses left.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5486/11028064974_f612c0ce5b.jpg

These two houses are next to the river Saalbach, which flows through Bruchsal.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3666/11028119213_037b023fb4.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7428/11028060314_16bb662315.jpg

Then we left the town again to take some fresh breaths without exhaust fumes.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7319/11027906115_f733fc345f.jpg

We passed some vineyards.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3789/11027998496_a19e3a132c.jpg

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2842/11027902395_929507fa2a.jpg

It got really cold, so we decided to walk home again. Do you see the two towers? They belong to the church St. Peter and we live close to this church at the moment.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3802/11028055034_0b024fee8b.jpg

Bruchsal is located at the edge of Kraichgau hill country to Rhine valley, which ups and downs you can see on the photos above too.

Bruchsal, Germany - 30th October 2013

By: fam-united

We left Bruchsal to drive to my host's aunt and uncle, who live in Mannheim. I'm curious to get to know this city or at least a part of it. We came past the beautiful baroque palace of Bruchsal.

We were really high above the street, you see.

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2839/11027978096_85bd1a7a38.jpg

In the early evening it was time to say goodbye and drive home again.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3713/11028035074_da0f45304f.jpg

I've seen the television tower.

Stuttgart, Germany - 31st October 2013

By: fam-united

The next day we thought it would be a good idea, to go on another trip. The weather was nice, but we didn't think of the short holiday break many people had, so there was a lot of traffic on the road and we didn't get far within an hour. So the only thing we did was driving and standing in the traffic jam and taking a photo now and then. I really hope to see more of Stuttgart one day. Stuttgart is the main city of the federal state Baden-Württemberg.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5507/11028026374_fd82176a99.jpg

We came past the Porsche Museum.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3739/11027871415_4d1f4ccde0.jpg

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2837/11028021054_842d410dd7.jpg

If we would have had enough time, we could have seen the Wilhelma, the zoo in Stuttgart.

on the road, Germany - 9th November 2013

By: fam-united

Today we were allowed to travel with our host and her husband. We were really curious, because we didn't know the destination. We had a nice place in the car, though, so we had been able to take a look at the surrounding area.

Calw, Germany - 9th November 2013

By: fam-united

It was a really nice day with beautiful weather, so we decided to stop in Calw and take a walk there and also visit the Herrmann Hesse Museum.
Calw is located in the northern Black Forest and is approximately 18 kilometers south of Pforzheim and 33 kilometers west of Stuttgart. It was first mentioned in records in 1075.
There are many nice halftimbered houses as you can see in our photos.

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2213/13195659833_b3742184b5.jpg

We saw parts of the original fortifications constructed before 1500 - it was really a small part of it.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7141/13195649913_1aca5aa06e.jpg

This is a part of the market place. Some of the photos we already showed above.

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2666/13195818654_e7da4f10d6.jpg

Then we visited the museum. Hermann Hesse (German: [ˈhɛɐ̯man ˈhɛsə]; 2 July 1877 – 9 August 1962) was a German poet, novelist, and painter. His best-known works include Steppenwolf, Siddhartha, and The Glass Bead Game, each of which explores an individual's search for authenticity, self-knowledge and spirituality. In 1946, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Herrenberg, Germany - 9th November 2013

By: fam-united

Herrenberg, Germany - 9th November 2013

By: fam-united

The sun was still shining and it wasn't too cold, so we decided to go on another walk through another town.
Herrenberg is a town in the middle of Baden-Württemberg, about 30 km south of Stuttgart and 20 km from Tübingen.
Herrenberg is situated on the western edge of the Schönbuch forest and is a central town within the Gäu region. It was founded in the 13th century. In 1278, Herrenberg was first documentated, although Pfalzgraf Rudolf von Tübingen already wrote in 1228 "castrum nostrum herrenberc" into a certificate. From 1276, the church building was started, which at the time, had two towers.

The symbol of the town, the traditional church "Stiftskirche", with its Glockenmuseum (bell museum) in the tower, as well as the "Herrenberger Rathaus" (town hall) and the historical ruins of the castle "Schlossberg", are an attrictive destination for tourists of all over the world. There are guided tours (some in English) as well through the historical buildings of the town. Large sections of the old city wall are still standing (or have been rebuilt) and numerous timber-framed houses fill the "Old Town" surrounding the "Marktplatz" (market place)

view to "Stiftskirche"

We're standing on the stairs, which lead to the church.

Here we're standing in front of the church looking down on the town.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3671/13195612953_874e64936e.jpg

The half timbered houses of Herrenberg are even more beautiful than those in Calw. We loved them and would have liked to stay for a longer time.

Then we walked back to the hotel, because we attended a Musical Krimi Dinner there.
