Hi, this is me, Bestik!
I have never considered travelling interesting, but one day, somebody appeared at my place and told me about his plans of wandering through the whole Europe, so I decided to give it a try.

Vienna, Austria - 24th August 2007
By: ChristinaB
Hello!
After a pretty hot journey I finally arrived at my next host in Vienna/Austria today. I had a very friendly welcome from Archibald and 2 purry cats, Mini Meow and Mila (they are inofficial toyvoyagers) as well as from the toys which live here and of course from my host family.
For today I think it is better to rest a bit but my host promised me to show me all the beautiful spots here in Vienna during the next days. How exciting!

Vienna, Austria - 1st September 2007
By: ChristinaB
I'm having a great time here in Austria! On Wednesday we did a lot of sightseeing (but I was told that this wasn't all to be seen in Vienna ), so we visited the Danube Tower (which is Austria's highest building), Hundertwasserhaus (have a look how colourful it is! Wouldn't it be nice to live there) and we spent a while in Vienna's Amusementpark called "Prater". There we saw the famous "Big Wheel" and tons of other rollercoasters, Merry-go-rounds etc. Unfortunately it was raining so most of the things were closed, but Mini Meow, Mila, Archibald and I had a great time nevertheless.

Vienna, Austria - 1st September 2007
By: ChristinaB
In the evening we all helped our host to do the cooking. They have a garden and at the moment there are many peaches there so my host decided to cook "Pfirsichknödel" (Pfirsich means peach!). Knödel is something really typical here in Austria I was told - and really, they are eating these strange ball-shaped things all the time. There are Knödel filled with apricots, plumps, strawberries, chocolate, nougat, then some with saussages, meat, there are Knödel without anything inside which are eaten as a side-dish, there are some made of rolls, some made of potatoes, of curd cheese etc. Have a look how much we worked - and how delicious the Knödel came out then - yummy!!

Vienna, Austria - 1st September 2007
By: ChristinaB
On Friday it was a wonderful sunny day so we decided to go to Schönbrunn Palace. The castle is really, really beautiful and it is surrounded by a big park where we had a long walk. So we saw some nice fountains, "Gloriette" (which was built for empress Sisi as a point of view) and the Palmhouse. There is also a zoo in this park but since we had to do also alot of other things (like shopping, washing etc.) that day we didn't have enough time to visit it. What a pitty, but my host said she'd try to take me and the others there another time and Archibald - who already visited it - was very enthusiastic about going there again.

Lake Neusiedlersee, Austria - 1st September 2007
By: ChristinaB
Today we did a little trip to lake Neusiedler See. It's only about 45 min by car but it looks very different there and to be honest I didn't expect Austria to look like THAT! I always thougth about mountains, mountains and mountains when I had Austria in my mind but this place was absolutely flat. It was really beautiful to see all the wineyards there (I was told that it is a very important area for planting grapes there) and the lake itself was soooo large - we couldn't even see the other side of it! On the picture you can see me at a little marina - I loved all these boats alot!

Vienna, Austria - 13th September 2007
By: ChristinaB
Oh, we did A LOT of sightseeing yesterday!!! I saw sooo many nice places and buildings I only knew from pictures so far! Already in the morning our host took Eireannach, Kleo and me and drove us to the center of Vienna. We parked the car just behind the City hall which we visited first. Just opposite the City hall we saw the Old imperial theatre - oh, how much would I like to watch a play there!!! But I was told that they don't show anything in the morning, just in the evening (and we were expecting guests then...)
Well, we continued our walk to the Austrian Parliament and went on to the museum of historical art. It has a twin just vis-ā-vis, museum for nature, which looks exactly the same.

Vienna, Austria - 13th September 2007

We continued our walk after a little break in front of the museum and went through the gate "Heldentor" then which lead us to Hofburg. Hofburg was the former residence of the Habsburg family and nowadays it hosts the national library, some museums and the president's office I was told.
We were absolutely in the center of Vienna then where we found many old and typical cafés, one of them you can see here. Have a look what we discovered in the window of another café: A Lipizzaner horse completely made of sugar!!! Isn't it great?? Unfortunately we couldn't visit the real Lipizzaner horses because they are still on holiday (they always spend the summer in Styria I was told...)
Then, after a looong walk which lasted for a while due to my very little feet, we reached St. Stephen's Cathedral. I was very impressed by the colourful roof of this church!
Before we finished our city walk we also had a look at the opera. I was renovated a few years ago so it is still very beautiful. Next time I'll go to Vienna I'll chose February because my host told me that then the famous opera ball takes place there!
