Rüdesheim, Germany - 10th November 2012
By: Susie's
On saturday we planned on going hiking but it was raining like crazy so we had to change to indoor plans (museum and stuff).
But the museum was closed. Means we had to spent the day outside anyway. We drove to the small town of Rüdesheim which is famous with tourists from all over the world.
We strolled around and came by hostmums favorite store twice. It's called Käthe Wohlfahrt and sells christmas decoration all around the year.
In between the rain slowed down a little and we decided to take some kind of cable car sky train to the top of a small mountain where a famous Statue called Niederwalddenkmal is. Half way up there it got very foggy and we hardly couldn't see anything anymore. We took a quick look around and went back down.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped by so many different monasteries, churches, abbeys and what not (took pictures with two or three of them) that I forgot which is which.
And that was day two.

Eltville, Germany - 11th November 2012
By: Susie's
Sunday morning we walked around the parc that surrounds the hotel and a bit along the river rhine. After we checked out from our suite we visited the monastery of Eberbach. It was founded in the 12th century.
In the years 1985-86 almost all shootings for the movie The Name of the Rose (with Sean Connery) were filmed here.
And now we are back at hostmums home.
Hope you had a nice weekend too.
XOXO

Bad Homburg, Germany - 15th November 2012
By: Susie's
Servus Mama,
this morning I went to Bad Homburg with hostmum.
She wanted to show me the local castle (it was built in 1679-1686 by Earl Friedrich II.) On the way we came by two beautiful
churches. The first one is the Catholic church St. Marien (which is famous for it's bells and it's ringing) and the second one is the Protestant church called Erlöserkirche (built in 1903-1908).
Last but not least we visited the so called Laternenfestbrunnen (lanternsfestivalfountain). It is very important for Bad Homburg because every year there is Latersfestival (since 1935) and Laternsqueen is elected.
That was pretty interesting.
For now I say good Night.
Have sweet dreams.

Frankfurt/Main, Germany - 17th November 2012
By: Susie's
And in the evening we got to go to Frankfurt/Main for a Sushi Dinner. Hmmmmm that was so yummy.
To get there we took the train. At the central station we had some time to take a look around. After dinner we went for a walk and did a bit of sightseeing. We saw some skyscrapers and the old opera (which is one of the most beautiful buildings in all Frankfurt).
Have a nice weekend mom.
see ya

Frankfurt/Main, Germany - 25th November 2012
By: Susie's
Guten Abend Mama,
today we spent some time in Frankfurt/Main with hostmum. She met a friend and togehter we went to a Spa where they got a treatment. After that we walked along the river Main. To cross it we took the bridge called "Eiserner Steg" (iron bridge). The special thing about are the locks. Young couples put them up with their names engraved. It's a symbol of everlasting love.
From there we came by a very famous sight of Frankfurt the Römer.
It's the building whose roof looks like stairs. On the square that is infront of the Römer building (and all the way to downtown Frankfurt) everything is already prepared for the Weihnachtsmarkt (which is one of those famous outside german christmas fairs) that will start tomorrow and last till christmas.
And even at the central station everything is already decorated.
How was your weekend mum?
Miss you
Druri

Bad Homburg, Germany - 2nd December 2012
By: Susie's
Hallo Mami,
and again we were gone all day. We spent it with one of hostmum's friends and her kids and made christmas cookies all day. Lot's and lot's of them. :-)
When we got there were already cookies called Bethmännchen (made of marzipan and almonds) in the oven.
Then we made Schmalznüsse (an old and traditional recipe), Nougatkugeln(nougatballs) and Schokoladenmacarons (chocolate macarons).
I had lot of fun.
Hope you had a nice weekend too.

Hey Mommy,
look at that. Hostmum asked us if we would help her shine a pair of shoes. So we did and than put the shoes out the front door.
Susie said that we will get some kind of reward (for so) for that. But not today we have to wait till the morning.
Hmmmmm what could that be about?
I'll tell you about it tomorrow.
Love you
Druri
PS Have I ever told you that my TV friend here is Lancel from germany?

Host's home, Germany - 6th December 2012
By: Susie's
Hey Mom,
do you remember the shoes we shined yesterday?
First thing we did this morning was checking on them.
And I couldn't belive my eyes. They where filled with lots of good stuff. Tea (with vanilla and almond flavor) some sweets and a mandarin. We had the tea right away for breakfast. Hmmmmmm yummy.
Hostmum told us that the Nikolaus brought it.
The Nikolaus in Germany is pretty similar to the american Santa Claus (dressed in a red coat and wears a white beard). To some families he comes in person (usually the one with small children). The kids then have to sing a christmas song or say a poem and get sweets for that. And to some people the Nikolaus comes over night and leaves the sweets there (of course just if you shined your shoes and put them out the front door )

Servus Mama,
yesterday we were christmas shopping. In the afternoon we went to Bad Homburg and in the evening to Frankfurt.
In Bad Homburg we were inside for a little while and when we came back out everything was covered in snow.
Susie's wasen't to lucky with buying presents for her family and friends but she treated herself with a small gift.
Küsschen

By: Susie's
This morning my friend Lancel left.
She is now on her way to Switzerland.
To make sure I won't be to sad about it Susie's kept me busy all day. First we made spicy-cinnamon-cookies, then we worked on her december daily scrapbooking project, wrote a postcard and in the evening I took a bright shining green bubblebath.
That was nice!
Have a nice weekend mommy.

Hey Mommy,
this morning we got pretty early and took the train to Frankfurt.
We had breakfast at a hotel. It was very yummy.
Actually we planned on going to the Weihnachtsmarkt (outdoor christmas fair) after breakfast but it was so cold and snowed so heavy that we skipped that plan.
Hope you had a nice weekend.
