Komodo National Park, Indonesia - 1st March 2013

By: Linda Fdph

Hello......

This is my first update, at Komodo National Park

Komodo National Park is located between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores in the Lesser Sunda Islands, at a distance of 200 nautical miles to the east of Bali. It has a total land area of 75,000 hectares and encompasses a number of islands, the largest of which are Komodo (34,000 hectares).
The Park encompasses most of the recognized habitat of the largest known lizard, the world famous Komodo Dragon (Varanus komodoensis).

Most of the Park is dry, rugged and hilly, a combination of ancient volcanic eruptions and more recent tectonic uplift of sedimentary seabeds. The irregular coastline is indented with rocky headlands and sandy bays, many framed by soaring volcanic cliffs.

Komodo island  is 35km long and 15km wide, and is mountainous on a north to south axis, with an average altitude of 500-600m. The highest peak is Satalibo (735m) in the north. Most of the island is lontar palm savannah with remnates of rainforest and bamboo forest at higher elevations.

My conclusion is : Need more than one day to enjoy this National Park, and i hope i have another opportunity to visit this site again in the future

The temple is part of the Puri Saraswati complex, devoted to Dewi Saraswati the goddess of learning, literature and the arts. It is located just a bit west of Pura Desa Ubud. Waters from the temple at the rear of the site feed the pond in the front which overflows with pretty lotus blossoms. The temple also features a fine padmasana (lotus throne) beyond the lotus pond in the back of Cafe Lotus.

Garuda Wisnu Kencana - Bali, Indonesia - 14th April 2013

By: Linda Fdph

Hello.............

Today , iam visited Mandala  Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK),  a 240 hectares private cultural park on the Bukit Peninsula at the southern end of the island of Bali in Indonesia, 15 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport. Bukit is a limestone plateau with Uluwatu to the west and Nusa Dua to the east.

It is devoted to the Hindu god Vishnu, and his mount, Garuda, the mythical bird who is his companion.

Garuda Wisnu Kencana is a massive, unfinished statue in Bali that currently exists in pieces. Conceptualized by the Balinese artist Nyoman Nuarta

When it's completed, it will be the largest statue in the world.

Dominating the park is Wisnu, a bust of a Hindu deity constructed from giants slabs of copper and brass. Representing the divine force responsible for the protection of the universe, the 22 meter Wisnu figure is a modern rendering of an ancient cultural tradition. The companion piece, Garuda, represent the giant bird which transports Wisnu, a symbol of both freedom and selfless devotion

Lotus Pond - GWK - Bali, Indonesia - 14th April 2013

By: Linda Fdph

Hello

Iam in Lotus Pond , the biggest outdoor area in Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park and, most likely, in Bali. Thus, Lotus Pond is the perfect and only place to held a big scale outdoor event.
For years, GWK has been trusted to held big scale, national and international, events in Lotus Pond such as music concert, international gathering, big party.

Lotus Pond is a unique place with limestone pillars on the side and the magnificent statue of Garuda on the background.
The Story Behind the Name
The lotus is the foremost symbol of beauty, prosperity, and fertility. Wisnu also always carries a lotus in his hand and almost all the gods of the Hindu pantheon are seated on lotuses or carry the flower.
Some interesting facts are that the lotus plant grows up through the water, having its root in the illus or mud, and spreading its flower in the air above. Thus, the lotus typifies the life of man and also that of the cosmos.
The root of the lotus sunk in the mud represents material life. The stalk passing up through the water typifies existence in the astral world. The flower floating above water and open up to the sky is emblematical of spiritual being.

Sanur Beach-Bali, Indonesia - 8th May 2013

By: Linda Fdph

Hello

Here Iam with JUKUNG
A jukung or canoe is a small wooden Indonesian boat. It is a traditional fishing boat

Essentially of Balinese origin, the double outrigger jukung is but one of many types of Pacific/Asian outrigger canoes that use the crab claw sail traditional throughout Polynesia. Whilst this sail presents some difficulties in tacking into the wind, actually requiring to jibe around, a jukung is superb in its reaching ability and jibe-safe running. They are usually highly decorated and bear a marlin-like prow.

Bali Island, Indonesia - 9th June 2013

By: Linda Fdph

Hello

Balinese traditional architecture, an ancient art that controlled by the ironclad strictness of Asta Kosala Kosali rules always seeks a balance between the environment and the human. The Asta Kosala Kosali governs the Balinese traditional architecture so it will create “Balinese-ness” of the scene, harmony with the surrounding environment and the grace of the structure.
