Jasper's home, Switzerland - 20th December 2013

By: Jasper

Hi mom,
Despite all good intentions Jasper is stressed. So much to do at work. Some employees already have a vacation and another has her leg broken because of the black ice in the last days.
That's why I looked around a bit by myself.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers13018_zps6f3124d7.jpg

I discovered some interesting things.

Jasper's home, Switzerland - 24th December 2013

By: Jasper

Hi mommy,
our calendar told us, today is Christmas Eve.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers13019_zps2c45df3a.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers13020_zpsff111323.jpg

Jasper has bought us a small tree that we decorated. The fairy lights gave us a bit of effort,

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers13035_zpse711930b.jpg

but together we have made it. With the red balls and golden ribbons it looks beautiful.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers13047_zps40210a76.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers13041_zpsbbe62d7f.jpg

Pride of place was the little angel.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers13051_zps4a8d3ce1.jpg

In memory of Cherry Lola's mom Kate.

And now we wait impatiently for what is to come.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers13017_zps8fc1a983.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers13054_zpsbc73def4.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers13055_zpsee4c1dc8.jpg

First we will eat delicious - with Jasper's dad and her brother - who come to visit.
And then we hope to have many gifts.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers13012_zpsfa5811fb.jpg

All my loved ones at home - I wish you a wonderful, peaceful Christmas.

Jasper's home, Switzerland - 1st January 2014

By: Jasper

Happy New year!
the last days of the old year were not so funny. Host dad had a few days to the hospital to re-adjust his diabetes. Even our trip to St. Moritz has been deleted. Here it was raining, but in the mountains was so much snow that the rail lines were closed due to avalanche danger. Pity but perhaps arises later an opportunity to go there. I would like to play in the snow, unfortunately, it is at the moment much too warm.
Yesterday I was looking forward on dinner. Jaspers family eats traditional cheese fondue on New Years Eve. Yummy!

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14039_zps2d96dd7c.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14028_zps9171e631.jpg

We all helped with the preparation . I cut the bread into small pieces.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14022_zps7b2fe809.jpg

I had to look that every piece has a crust.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14021_zps9b1f44e4.jpg

The piece of bread then holds better on the fondue fork. If you lose it during stirring in the cheese, you have to drink a brandy.
And then we had to stir, stir, stir until the cheese was melted.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14052_zps398816d9.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14059_zpsee301f51.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14061_zpsc6bb07e6.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14062_zpsa6eeaf08.jpg

In between, we have set the table.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14042_zpsbeb8f15d.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14049_zps4486c50f.jpg

And then we enjoyed a creamy, seductive fragrant fondue and a glass of white wine.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14070_zps82edfde8.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14080_zps90b9f637.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14081_zps14d58ed3.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14082_zps605d3c56.jpg

Unfortunately the rain prevented the fireworks. Nevertheless we had a lovely evening.

All the best for the new year - love you
Laika

Luzern, Switzerland - 19th January 2014

By: Jasper

Hi mommy,
Today we made a trip to Lucerne. Lucerne is a city in north-central Switzerland, in the German-speaking portion of that country. Lucerne is the capital of the Canton of Lucerne and the capital of the district of the same name. With a population of about 76,200 people, Lucerne is the most populous city in Central Switzerland, and a nexus of transportation, telecommunications, and government of this region.
Due to its location on the shore of Lake Lucerne (der Vierwaldstättersee), within sight of Mount Pilatus and Rigi in the Swiss Alps, Lucerne has long been a destination for tourists.
Early in the morning we boarded the train

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14001_zps80bb7603.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14002_zps0ec69798.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14005_zps1adaf961.jpg

and two hours later we reached Lucerne.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14019_zpsa2bb0a5e.jpg

On the way we even saw a bit of snow - a rarity in this winter.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14009_zpsb6ec820e.jpg

Arriving in Lucerne we strengthened ourselves first with croissant and cappuccino and studied the map .

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14021_zps5a9b98a5.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14026_zps4b50b102.jpg

Then we started our tour.

The first thing we saw was the famous Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge) and Wasserturm (Water Tower) .

Bridge: constructed in the first half of the 14th century as a part of the city fortifications. Named after nearby St.Peters chapel.
Watertower: this octagonal over 34 meters high(111.5 ft.) tower was built ca. 1300 as a part of the city wall. Used as archives, treasury, prison and torture chamber. Lucerne's trademark and the most photographed monument in Switzerland.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14032_zpsaf7f28ec.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14035_zps4097380d.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14043_zps7ef0eda0.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14056_zps41124e32.jpg

Along the river Reuss we walked further and saw gulls and swans that were fighting over bread.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14048_zps3176e703.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14051_zpsfec4b9fa.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14053_zpsc999d341.jpg

Beautiful houses lined our way to Nadelwehr (Needle Dam).

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14060_zpsb1d2d4a2.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14066_zpsd35bac14.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14073_zps339e29d1.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14079_zps939c2dd1.jpg

Built in 1859/1860 following the clever style developed by Poiree, the Needle Dam is a unique attraction in terms of both technology and history. From 2009-2011 the facility was renovated and the city's flood protaction was improved. Even today, the level of Lake Lucerne is regulated by hand through the removal and placement of the so-called needles (wooden posts).

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14084_zps8148bd57.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14090_zps7e039d81.jpg

The next attraction was the Spreuerbrücke (Mill Bridge) .

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14095_zps365c4231.jpg

The bridge was completed in 1408 as a part of the city fortification. Between 1626 and 1635 Kaspar Mellinger added 67 paintings that represent the "Dance of Death". Called the Spreuerbrücke because chaffs of weat were thrown in the river.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14098_zps59e6671d.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14099_zps4cf5d0a1.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14104_zps48f22af7.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14105_zpsfbe7dfb4.jpg

Then we had to climb stairs - many many stairs took us to Museggmauer .

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14109_zps6a132bb7.jpg

Museggmauer (Musegg wall):  part of the rampart walls built in 1386. Wall almost entirely intact.
8 towers still standing, three are open to the public - Schirmer, Zyt and Männli. The oldest city clock, built by Hans Luter in 1535 is on Zyt tower. This clock is privileged to chime every hour one minute before all the other clocks in the city.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14116_zps9588b835.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14120_zps5ef21bd8.jpg

From here you have a wonderful view over the whole city and the lake in good weather. As you can see we did not have great weather, foggy and cold it was .

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14125_zpsfba2a325.jpg

Lots of stairs later we admired beautifully painted houses that border the old city scenic places .

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14130_zps1a8bb6ab.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14132_zpsb53eada6.jpg

Goethe was here.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14133_zps4eb74dc0.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14135_zpsf4deefe8.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14140_zpsa4fc6949.jpg

On the opposite shore we saw the Jesuit Church .

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14147_zps49b68eeb.jpg

Then we treated ourselves to a lunch break .

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14161_zps7a43a1eb.jpg

The next building, which we admired, was the Town Hall (from the back, we will see even from the front).

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14150_zps6f9fe550.jpg

It was built between 1602 and 1606 by Anton Isenmann in Italian Renaissance style with a Bern farmhouse roof for weather purposes. The open arcades facing the Reuss still serve today as a weekly marketplace.
The Fritschi restaurant on the Sternenplatz, painted with carnival motifs.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14157_zps6beb5227.jpg

The Fritschi is a famous Lucerne carnival figure. And - Luzern + Fasnacht: a madhouse.

Then we reached the lake.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14165_zps5f1af14d.jpg

In good weather you can see from here the Alps with the local mountains Pilatus and Rigi.
We strolled a bit along the bank and then went to the Hofkirche (Hofchurch).

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14185_zps63593a69.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14170_zps997e7dc6.jpg

Main cathedral for the city population and religious centre St.Leodegar and Mauritius. Benedectine Monastery founded here in the 8th century. Fire destroyed church in 1633. Rebuilt 1645. Is the most important Renaissance church building in Switzerland.

Next, we visited the Löwendenkmal (Lion Monument).

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14184_zps412cd0f4.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14180_zps3e19b59d.jpg

"The dying Lion of Lucerne" is one of the world's most famous monuments. It was hewn out of natural rock in memory of the heroic death of the Swiss mercenaries at the Tuilleries in 1792. Globetrotter Mark Twain described the Lion of Lucern as " the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world".
Once again a short distance along the lake (it was still foggy and cold),

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14186_zps352458eb.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14187_zps60592b88.jpg

passing this funny house,

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14189_zps8b673e69.jpg

and we reached the Kapellbrücke again.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14193_zps56c27fa5.jpg

We crossed the bridge

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14196_zps51ae8a8c.jpg

and saw this time the town hall from the front.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14201_zpsb69a537f.jpg

This is the Seebrücke (Seabridge).

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14205_zps6adac12f.jpg

Under it, the Reuss flows into the Lake Lucerne.

On passing Culture and Congress Centre,

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14212_zps6852a624.jpg

we reached the station.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14207_zps38af9511.jpg

We said goodbye to Lucerne and were on our way home.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14217_zps240c9cc7.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14218_zps117604fd.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14216_zps0871e30c.jpg

Tired, but happy and enriched by many impressions we fell into bed.
I hope you like my pictures from Lucerne.

Bellinzona, Ticino, Switzerland - 26th January 2014

By: Jasper

Hi ,
Sunday morning , and again we had to get up early. This time led us our trip to Ticino - the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. To get to the Ticino, we took the train through the Gotthard tunnel.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14005_zps50d200f4.jpg

The railway tunnel is 15003 meters long and consists of a single , twin-track tube. Construction began in the fall of 1872. The puncture was made on 29 February 1880 and on 22 May 1882 the tunnel was inaugurated. On the north side was not much snow

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14153_zps5ea2ab9f.jpg

but when we left the tunnel , we saw amounts of snow.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14015_zps65d04919.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14148_zps22aa6f80.jpg

Crazy winter.

Place names such as : Airolo, Quinto , Faido , Biasca and Osogna made us curious. And then we got out - in Bellinzona , the capital of the canton of Ticino.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14018_zpsfd148280.jpg

The city is famous for its three castles ( Castel Grande , Montebello, Sasso Corbaro ) that have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2000.
From the station square we made our way into the old town.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14024_zps691227e6.jpg

We reached the Piazza Collegiata

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14033_zps4ef9849f.jpg

and admired the great church of San Collegiata.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14026_zps23654a08.jpg

Passing beautiful homes

and the Palazzo Civico (City Hall),

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14040_zpscd59b5db.jpg

we reached the stairs that led us to the Castel Grande.

A wonderful view.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14052_zps59644cc0.jpg

The castle is located on a mighty rock ridge above the old town. We strolled through the huge castle and expected every moment  knights and dragons.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14066_zps4d8607de.jpg

We climbed the Murata (city walls), which also belongs to the Unesco World Heritage site.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14069_zps6ae3e395.jpg

It seems as if one can traverse half Bellinzona on the Murata , as long it is.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14074_zpsfadb1ea1.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14077_zpse4b1b98d.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14079_zps7912b10a.jpg

We took the Salita Castel Grande to return to the city. On our way we saw the Federal Criminal Court.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14084_zps8f883ad5.jpg

A few alleys further we came to probably the oldest church in Bellinzona - San Biagio . The facade is decorated with an image of St. Christopher.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14088_zps4e53c9f2.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14092_zpscbf5c152.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14095_zpsa39445d0.jpg

The lunch we had earned.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14097_zps77c1469d.jpg

After this break we were on our way to the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. It is one of the most valuable Churches in Ticino and emerged at the end of the 15th Century.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14101_zpsb5ace5ca.jpg

This richly frescoed building was severely damaged in a fire on January 1, 1996 and had to be carefully restored. Unfortunately we could not visit the interior, the church was closed.
Little surprised we went on and came to the Piazza Indipendenza ( Independence Square ) with the obelisk.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14107_zps7084345c.jpg

From there we climbed hundreds of stairs -

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14110_zpsf185d1cf.jpg

they carry the picturesque name Salita al Castello di Montebello - the second castle. Pretty exhausted and breathless we read the World Heritage Panel

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14114_zps9ba43d9f.jpg

and then explored the castle.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14119_zps544d97b0.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14131_zps48f023ca.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14138_zpsdff654c8.jpg

Our effort was rewarded with a splendid view.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14126_zps628f6596.jpg

I could even see the Lago Maggiore.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14122_zpsdb5fe8ee.jpg

We explored the old well

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14133_zps122f5eb4.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14134_zps7841a69b.jpg

and marveled at the drawbridge.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14137_zps59efaee1.jpg

The third castle we saw only from afar. No more stairs.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/TV3/ToyVoyagers14145_zpscc3883cd.jpg

Tired but happy we were on our way home. You can imagine that we all slept well.

That's it for today, see you soon.
Love you
Laika

Hanne is back from her vacation in Florida.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14003_zps3d22726f.jpg

She was allowed to accompany Jasper's daughter on her honeymoon.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14004_zpsff4dae01.jpg

I was a bit little jealous, but Hanne brought us gifts and a new friend - Mani, the Manatee.

Lichtensteig, Switzerland - 6th February 2014

By: Jasper

Hi mommy,
Today, we sat together, listening Hannes vacation experiences and nibbled the last biscuits.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14019_zps6e475fd4.jpg

Something was strange. We felt observed.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14018_zpsfd386abc.jpg

Suddenly we heard a fluttering and a small bat landed in the biscuit pot.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14023_zpsa2fe6304.jpg

Stoker called the little Batman and is our new guest.
We welcomed him warmly in Switzerland and shared our biscuits with him.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14027_zps1e9792c3.jpg

He's so funny - I like him.

Alt St.Johann, Switzerland - 15th February 2014

By: Jasper

Hi mom,
been a few days since I reported the last time. Jasper was very busy - a presentation at a textile fair had to be prepared.
But today was time. We wanted a walk in the snow - so we had to take the car first. Here is no snow - lousy winter. Jasper is frustrated. She loves winter.
So we went to Alt St. Johann and walked a while along the Thur.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14044_zps7061807d.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14004_zps4c1d9e89.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14007_zpsa58839b1.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14026_zpsfb4b3f18.jpg

The Thur is here still small

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14012_zpsf8daf92b.jpg

and in winter the cross country ski trail runs along the shore.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14041_zps33246544.jpg

We watched a bit of cross-country skiers - they were not very fast.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14019_zpsac271f74.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14069_zps0bb55cba.jpg

Suddenly I had an urgent need.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14016_zpsb758ce28.jpg

On an old stone wall we rested a bit. It was warm - 15 degrees.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14024_zpsd5dd015a.jpg

Then we had to decide - we take what way? Not so easy.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14034_zps14eace3f.jpg

We walked straight on and came to the valley station of the Iltiosbahn.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14047_zps6f7a2cd9.jpg

This funicular takes you to 1339 meters above sea level.

On our way we saw this sign.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14053_zpsb1aebeb4.jpg

Did I tell you that Simon Ammann grew up in Alt St. Johann ?

This glass tent is an apres ski bar. Unfortunately, she was not yet open.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14063_zpsb5a3a239.jpg

So we were on our way home. Tonight we look at ski jumping on television. Let's see who wins.

That's it for today.

Bye, bye
Laika

Jasper's home, Switzerland - 18th February 2014

Hi mommy,
once again bad weather. It's exasperating.
Jasper made us "good mood muffins"

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14042_zpsecc6bb61.jpg

On weekend, we make another trip - the weather prospects are good.
The destination is a secret. We only know the city name starts with "M".
We all are soooo curious.

in the kitchen, Switzerland - 22nd February 2014

By: Jasper

Hi mom,
I have a confession to make. You can twist and turn as you like: I stole.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14011_zps56f1ee65.jpg

In my defense: I had terrible hunger. Really terrible hunger, my stomach growled and from the kitchen came a tantalizing scent - meat.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14010_zps82bd52d4.jpg

For a short moment I forgot my good upbringing and it was already
happen.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14001_zps54fdfc5d.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14002_zps82a6a46a.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14003_zps904d49f9.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14004_zps808990f5.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14005_zps326f73ba.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14006_zps2be33bd8.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14008_zpsa3cbc3a2.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14009_zpsa98c97dc.jpg

Host father and host brother were not amused. They had to share the last steak.
But I'm sure - I've heard Jasper laugh.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14012_zps16b4af07.jpg

I was ashamed a bit and made the dishes. As compensation.
The steak was good, really good.

M???, Italy - 24th February 2014

By: Jasper

Saluti a tutti di famiglia
you wonder why I speak Italian? Jasper promised us for this weekend a trip to a city that starts with "M".
We started early and ended up in - Milano ( Milan )

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14204_zpsf1914883.jpg

From the station

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14199_zpsdff1c615.jpg

we walked to the Castello di Sforzaresco.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14004_zps11b3cdac.jpg

The Castello is home to the largest museum complex in Milan with nine museums and art galleries. Michelangelo's last sculpture - the Pieta Rondanini, and Leonardo da Vinci's " Codex Trivulzianus " a collection of valuable manuscripts are exhibited here. Unfortunately photograph is strictly prohibited.
So we went on and came to the Arco della Pace - a triumphal arch in Piazza Sempione.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14009_zps9a69f8ed.jpg

He should remember the European peace of 1815.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14017_zps266c7d05.jpg

A few streets away , we saw the "new Milan". On the old Fairgrounds - Fiera Milano City - built diligently.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14021_zps91b5ce88.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14030_zpsa5a169e7.jpg

The new district will be called "CityLife Milano".

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14033_zps02037bc2.jpg

On our way we saw this posh house entrance.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14050_zps48fec63d.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14038_zps4acc21a2.jpg

It belongs to the "Casa di riposo by musici" a retirement home for musicians. It was founded by Giuseppe Verdi who lived here and is buried here.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14045_zps969953da.jpg

Directly in front of the house is his monument.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14055_zps6e0e4f2a.jpg

The Piazza Piemonte and the Theatro Nazional.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14057_zps365f7b90.jpg

By typical Milanese streets

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14188_zpsd3947f24.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14067_zpsdb209551.jpg

we came to the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14069_zpsdf81389c.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14075_zps12983524.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14076_zpsad69120e.jpg

It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of these walls - we do not know which - painted Leonardo da Vinci his famous painting "The Last Supper".
And again, we were not lucky to photograph a famous work of art. We were not even near him. Because of the large number of visitors tickets are limited. And yes, you're right - they were sold out. No exception, not even for ToyVoyager.
A bit grumpy we looked at the building from the outside

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14082_zpse0349e57.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14083_zpsa00f8126.jpg

and found in a small tranquil courtyard our good mood again.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14090_zps0d10dbbc.jpg

We went on

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14102_zpscd4397f7.jpg

and came to the Palazzo Litta, a magnificent palace which is now used by the railway administration.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14098_zpsfd2c3a69.jpg

We passed a small memorial service for the victims in Ukraine, and held in for a moment.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14109_zpsd536ea24.jpg

A magnificent monument - I do not remember for whom.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14117_zps4b777372.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14116_zpsb9bfb1df.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14122_zpsd01479cc.jpg

A work of art.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14192_zpsb1dc8b9e.jpg

Then we reached the famous Opera House - the Scala. I had somehow imagined more glorious.

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14129_zps83e6c37f.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14138_zpse79b4a1f.jpg

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u614/Hemming60/Hemming%204/ToyVoyagers14182_zpsd78352d8.jpg

to the magnificent shopping mall "Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II".

All well-known brands can be found in this cross-shaped passage.
When we left the Galleria, an imposing sight showed us.
