Anchorage, Alaska, USA - 9th October 2013

By: AbbeyV

Today was my birthday!  Very exciting!  I was born!  This is the best!  So, today I went to school with mom in her cool blue backpack.  I was riding in her pocket, but then I jumped to freedom and I nearly got lost!  But a nice stranger brought me back to mom.  Whew.  That was close!

Today was anatomy day, so I studied the anatomy of a cat.  Kind of an odd thing to study. Then we went to the craft store and mom and I looked at cross-stitch magazines. They were interesting, but without thumbs and lengthy arms, I don't really think it's a hobby for me.

Then I came home and read on the iPad a little bit.  I'm reading "The Reason I Jump."  It's a very good book.

Today was a fun day of feeling better.  Mom was in a car accident a few months ago and needs to have massages every Friday to help with the pain. So we visited the massage therapist today.  That was fun.  Then we went grocery shopping.  That was okay, but kinda boring.

Today, my dad gave me a driving lesson.  First he taught me about the gauges, then taught me how to steer (with a little help), then taught me about shifting.  All are important skills to learn how to drive.

We took a trip around Anchorage today.  Didn't take many pictures because it was raining, but here's an update!

Today Mom had to go to the dentist to get a cavity refilled.  It wasn't fun for her, but she did well!!

I looked at a magazine, what are these chainsaws? They look far more effective than teeth.  Perhaps even better?

Then I had a seat in the dentists chair to see what getting teeth worked on would be like.  I think I'll stick to chewing trees.

I went to the post office today.  That was an experience.  Mom told me I would be going there one day to visit another person.  Sounds fun!

Well, today was exciting.  Mom had to go to the hospital to get her finger looked at because she cut it making dinner. I'll spare you the pictures, but as luck would have it, she didn't need stitches!

Of course I gave hostmum all the presents I brought.

Bad Homburg, Germany - 13th November 2013

By: Susie's

Hi Mum,

since the sun was shining for once (November is usually grey, cold and wet in Germany), host mum took me and BineHH for a walk in Bad Homburg and showed us the ruins of a roman mansion called Villa Ober Eschbach.
I really enjoy spending time with another TV.  :D

Love your

Hey Mum,

how are you? I’m just fine.
Yesterday hostmum took me to an arts & crafts fair in the local community center. All kinds of handmade stuff to see but mostly Christmas decoration.

And since it seems that Christmas season has already started, Susie’s decided that it is about time to start to put up her decoration as well.  :cyclops:
It took us almost all afternoon. But we are not even done yet. Hostmum told me that we’ll put up some more decoration soon.

And how was your weekend?

Love you

Host's home, Germany - 23rd November 2013

Good Evening Mama,

today I helped hostmum to make and bake a cake.
It is called Stollen. Which is typically german Christmas  pastry.
Traditionally it is made with raisin and candied Lemon+orange peel. But Susie's don't like  these ingredients. That's why we made a more modern Version of it with Nougat, coffee and amaretti [Italian almond-flavoured biscuits].
The baked Stollen is covered with melted butter, sliced almonts and lots of powdered sugar.
It's supposed to look like Baby Jesus in his swaddlings.
And now we have to wait for it to cool down before we can eat it.

Can't wait.  :cyclops:

Frankfurt, Germany - 24th November 2013

By: Susie's

Hey there,

last Sunday I had the chance for some sightseeing in the City of Frankfurt/Main.
We started our tour at the old opera which is surrounded by skyscrapers. From there we headed to the building of the stock market with it’s symbol  bull and bear.
Next stop was a sushi restaurant where we had lunch. Yummy yumm.
After lunch we walked to the most famous sight of Frankfurt: The Römer (it is the building with the roof that look like stairs). This place is a very import part of history. Emperors where elected here (of course that was centuries ago). The square in front of the Römer is full  with huts and booths in preparation to one of those famous outdoor German Christmas fairs.
The last sight on our tour was the Eiserner Steg bridge which crosses the river Main. All the colorful locks are put up by couples and meant as a symbol for endless love. How cute.

Love you Mum

Yours

Host's home, Germany - 1st December 2013

By: Susie's

Hi Mum,

Sunday was a special day. Because it was the  1st of December and the 1st of Advent (it’s a coincidence that they fall on the same day).
The 1st of December means that we get to start with a special calendar that is used to count or celebrate the days in anticipation of Christmas.
Many take the form of a large rectangular card with "windows" of which there are usually 24: one for each day of December leading up to Christmas Day. One is opened every day leading up to Christmas. The calendar windows open to reveal an image, poem, or  a small gift, such as a toy or a chocolate item. What a nice tradition.
And the first of Advent is always the 4th Sunday that predate Christmas eve. Many Germans celebrate it with a Advent wreath which is made of fir branches some decoration and 4 candles; every Sunday in December, a new candle on the wreath is lit. Unfortunately Susie’s couldn’t get a nice wreath. So she just got some table decoration with one big candle.
But it’s still nice and romantic.

XOXO

Bad Homburg, Germany - 2nd December 2013

By: Susie's

Yesterday I got to go on a short sightseeing tour at night in the town of Bad Homburg.
We started at the downtown shopping street. Went from there to the castle. Unfortunately we couldn’t see too much of it cause it wasn’t really illuminated and most of the building was hidden behind some kind of construction fence.
On the way back we came by two beautiful churches.

Sending you a biiiiiig hug.
