Doll Guest House, England - 16th February 2015

By: Xadrian

Hi Gretel!

I'm so happy to hear that you arrived at your destination safely! I am finally getting to update my part of the journal.  Let's see...

After I met my host she introduced me to some other dolls living here.

The mothers name is Hennie and the daughters name is Margot.  They seemed nice enough.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P2171035_zpsyjbisbv2.jpg

Hennie suggested that since I was around her daughters size that I could use her bedroom during my stay here.  How very welcoming!

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P2171038_zpsg5mty3k8.jpg

They even said that since I did not pack my pyjamas that I could borrow a set.  Hrrm... I'm begining to notice something... they really like the color pink around here!  :o

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P2171045_zpsrcovtizi.jpg

This is my bedroom...  :stare:
And these are the pyjamas they let me use...

Gretel, please don't laugh at your poor brother. I feel humiliated enough. Oh well... time for some sleep.

Lots of love,
Hansel

Happy late Valentine's Day, Gretel!

You got chocolate too?!

On Valentine's day I found a mysterious bag in the corner of the room.  What could be inside?

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P2171048_zpsigtx0piq.jpg

As soon as I poked my head inside I heard a loud croaking sound and a giant frog jumped out at me!  He explained that he was born in a factory in the UK and had a heart lovingly stitched on him.  When I asked him what he was doing here, he explained that it was his job to look cute and help human's celebrate Valentine's Day!  I wonder what my job is?

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P2171046_zpszlg7egw2.jpg

Look Gretel! I got to eat a chocolate heart too!

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P2171047_zpsarieomcd.jpg

After exploring my host's Valentine's bag it was time to have a small party at the Doll's house.  Hennie Doll brought over her boyfriend Ken and they spent the entire time on the couch kissing! EWW!!!  :o

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/Untitled_zpsp8yjy93e.png

We had lots to eat at the party - popcorn, candy and soda! They even gave me a box of Valentine's chocolates of my very own!

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P2171042_zpseg5amo8e.jpg

I hear we are going to go exploring this weekend and visit some places, I can't wait! Until my host is free I will spend time with my new toy friends.

Love,
Your brother Hansel

Hello Hansel,

today we got cooking. Do you have an idea, what this will be?

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8567/16581849865_5e43fc52ac.jpg

First the batter

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7406/16581853305_5d49900227.jpg

Then put it into the pan

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8581/15959705464_9591f5dae2.jpg

And ready are the pancakes!

These were so tasty. I could eat this every day.

Love

your sister

Potters Bar Library, England - 20th February 2015

By: Xadrian

Hi Gretel!

I hope you are doing well.  I am jealous that you found a Tardis with candy inside and got to ride a dragon! My host was busy this weekend so we did not get to do a lot of sightseeing.  She did take me to the library however so that I could look for a book to keep me occupied during the week.

On our way we noticed one of the tires was a little flat so we stopped off at the gas station to fill it up.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P2201050_zpslcrkji21.jpg

It's a dirty job sis, but someone has to do it!

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P2201051_zpsrvcshx2c.jpg

Finally we made it to the library.  I thought this quote was very fitting!

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P2211053_zpsrkfebk8v.jpg

I thought getting an audio book might be better because then I wouldn't have to struggle to keep the pages open.  But the selection of audio books wasn't that great.  :(

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P2211055_zpsi1jrk5ze.jpg

Oh! I better go, my host is looking for me.  I'm going to help her fill out postcards.  Take care!

The bestest brother,

Hansel

Hi Gretel!

Happy Chinese New Year!  Ok, so it is a few days late...

My host took me out for dinner to celebrate the new year.

The menu selection was huge!

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/213_zpsxgda68vi.jpg

I asked but they said they do not make smaller portions for toys  :(  My host said I could take the leftovers home though so I decided to get the crispy pork and rice and an iced lemon tea.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/242_zpss0haqw0o.jpg

It was delicious.  Not as good as back home, but still decent, mind you.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/239_zpsuwmhxgae.jpg

I hope you had a good Chinese New Year, sis!

Freiberg, Germany - 21st February 2015

By: Salvia

Hello Hansel,

today we are in Freiberg. Here live my host's parents. Freiberg is in Saxony and is near the Erzgebirge. Over 800 years ago they found silver here. Because of this, it is part of the silver road.

We were here to celebrate my host's grandmother's birthday. Of course there was cake.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7285/16599467369_dde5328d27.jpg

And here you can see me in front of some organ pipes, because Freiberg is famous for the world's largest Silbermann organ. Unfortunately we did not had time to see the real one.

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8753/16163296714_0c51f760b5.jpg

And they even had some snow here.

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8696/16163302954_ee70e39446.jpg

A shame that it was not enough to build a snowman.

Love

your sister

Halle (Saale), Germany - 25th February 2015

By: Salvia

Hello Hansel,

I hope you have fun on your trip. Today I had the chance to finally see the city centre of Halle. And it was such a lovely sunny day.

Here you can see the entry to the city museum. We had no time to go inside, but isn't the poster lovely?

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8692/16599391739_4eaa0cb4df.jpg

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8632/16163221604_9d66ba05fc.jpg

Our next station was the market place. In the background you can see the town hall. It is a very modern building unlike the rest of the buildings near it.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7284/16784398491_8258ed1e13.jpg

And here is the highlight of the market place. The statue of Georg Friedrich Händel, who was born here in Halle. He is one of the symbols of the city and each year there is a festival of his music.

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8620/16784452462_e2825527ab.jpg

Next we walked to the university. My host studied here some years ago. This is the main building, but there are many parts of the university all over the city.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7634/16784460412_3c30622e98.jpg

At the moment there are no lectures but there were a lot of students here nonetheless.

And I found this strange statue. It was a bit creepy.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7610/16597985658_946917b7e4.jpg

Halle also has a lot of theaters. This is backside of the Neues Theater, which was founded by a German actor.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7281/16784474112_7404fd0cd4.jpg

And here is the opera. My host told me, that she saw here some ballets and an opera.

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8643/16784485522_1939e5f5b2.jpg

We even found a map of Halle. At the blue point is our current position.

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8721/16784441581_56393945e3.jpg

This is the main post office. Isn't the building beautiful?

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7647/16784500102_056aacc40f.jpg

And here we are at the Saline, where salt was made. Halle was once a big producer of salt. Now here is a museum, but the machines are still working and sometimes they make salt in front of the visitors.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7288/16598025468_d6f2aacf2e.jpg

This was the end of our little trip. I had so much fun seeing some sights of Halle.

Best wishes

your sister

Gretel

London, England - 7th March 2015

By: Xadrian

Hi Sis!

How are your adventures going?  This weekend my host visited the National Gallery in London and took me along.  Unfortunately photography was not allowed inside but we still took pictures of other cool things!

This is Trafalgar square, a very popular place in London to come and hang out at.  It is also the location of the National Gallery and various statues.  Many protests are also held here.  Today they were protesting fracking.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P3071068_zpsbundo7nu.jpg

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P3071059_zpsvp2iopx9.jpg

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P3071061_zpske36ybcv.jpg

This is Nelson's Column... and what a very big column it is!

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P3071060_zpsacg5niid.jpg

Near the center is a nice little fountain.  There was even a wood duck swimming around.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P3071063_zpsp6ebnksa.jpg

Within the square are four plinths with statues atop.  For example:

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P3071067_zpsii8jiay1.jpg

The fourth plinth has been used for many years to host guest artist's works.  This week a new statue was unveiled.  It is called the Gift Horse and was created by Hans Haacke.  There is a stock market ticker that is tied around his leg, sis!

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P3071058_zpsbhgttcqv.jpg

Guess who I met outside the National Gallery, sis?!  You'll never believe this!

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P3071069_zpspqoxabik.jpg

My host says he has a BAMF face.  But I don't know what that means.  Oh well, he was very friendly and let me take a picture with him.  I also let a strange moving statue...

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P3071070_zpslvwqyuhl.jpg

Creeeeepy!

After a stroll in the gallery we visited a few places outside the Trafalgar area.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P3071077_zpsdkfquyqc.jpg

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P3071072_zps682qmu2r.jpg

What's this?  A castle big enough for a toy?  Oh... my host says it is called the Lilliputian Police Station.  It was built in the 30's and fits a single person inside.  It's no longer used but in it's hay day it would allow a police officer to stand inside and call for help or use the holes in the side to shoot rioters.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af270/CyndiB_Photos/Hansel/P3071079_zpsmniigxbx.jpg

Hope you're having fun on your adventure!

Your bro,

Hansel

Hello Hansel,

today was my host's son's first birthday. There were a lot of guests here and we all celebrated. I only had time to take this one picture with the birthday cake. I can tell you it was really delicious.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7653/16578362017_2f91f3b96f.jpg

I fear, I gained some pounds here with all the yummy things. I hope, I will fit into my envelope again.

Hopefully you have a lot of fun in England.

Love

Hi Gretel!

Today I visited the local skate park in town (albeit small) and thought you might want to see the mural surrounding the park.
