Pickity Place, Mason, NH, USA - 21st August 2015
By: bookloverblue
Today, Duffy and I went to Pickity Place in New Hampshire: a quiet, peaceful cottage that inspired Elizabeth Orton Jones' illustrations for "Little Red Riding Hood" in the 1940s. Well, I'm sometimes called "Little Red Fedora" because of my outfit, so this place was definitely worth a visit!
Here's a few photos from our fun day out.
Until next time!

Leeds, England - 3rd October 2015
By: bookloverblue
I'm back home after my summer travels! The Writer made us both a cup of tea - the traditional English welcome! - and we sat together as I chatted to her about my adventures.
I finished by saying, "I wonder where I'll travel to next?"
The Writer then told me that she had a little surprise for me, and that I shouldn't bother unpacking my bags.
Huh? What does she mean?
Until next time!

Port of Dover, England - 11th October 2015
By: bookloverblue
Only a few days after I arrived back in Leeds, I found myself sat on a coach in the early hours of Sunday morning. The Writer was with me, along with another friend of hers.
"Where are we going?" I asked her.
"The place all roads lead to," she replied.
Still as puzzled as ever, I decided to sit back and enjoy the ride.
Soon enough, the coach arrived at the Port of Dover. I recognised it instantly from the famous White Cliffs.
"Are we getting on a ferry?" I asked The Writer.
"Yes," she said. "We need to cross over to Calais to continue our journey."
Ah! So we were going to France!
The coach drove onto the ferry, where we alighted in order to stretch our legs, get some air and explore the decks. I had fun using a telescope to see if I could spot any other ships.
"Why didn't you tell me we were going to France?" I asked The Writer.
"I wanted it to be a surprise," she said. "Besides, France is only the country we're heading to first. We'll be travelling on after that."
"So where are we going?"
"I told you - the place where all roads lead."
I sat and thought for a moment or two. It sounded like The Writer was referring to some famous saying or something, but what?
All roads lead to...
"Rome!" I cried, the lightbulb suddenly turning on in my head. "We're going to Rome!"
"That's right," The Writer said. "Along with Florence and Pisa. So, after we get to France, we'll be travelling through Switzerland to reach Italy. We have a long journey ahead of us!"

Florence, Italy - 13th October 2015
By: bookloverblue
The next day, we had our first excursion - a day in Florence. This city is very famous for being the "birthplace" of the Renaissance, and you are surrounded by history, art and culture on every side... much to The Writer's delight!
Upon our arrival, we were met by a local tour guide, who led us to Piazzale Michelangelo - the perfect vantage point for some spectacular views of Florence.
Then, it was time to see the sights! These included the famous old bridge, the Ponte Vecchio...
Piazza della Signoria (where Michelangelo's David originally stood, and where a replica stands now)...
The Palazzo Vecchio...
Florence Cathedral...
The Basilica di Santa Croce (Basilica of the Holy Cross)...
... and the National Library!
I would have loved to have spent more time in Florence, in order to see more of the famous artworks and museums, but sadly, we had other places to see!

Vatican City, Vatican State - 14th October 2015
By: bookloverblue
Our second day in Italy took us to Rome - the place where Western civilisation as we know it arguably began. It is renowned as a place of historical importance, and is filled with several famous ancient monuments.
When our coach parked up for the day, we realised soon after disembarking that, before reaching Rome proper, we would need to pass through another nation entirely... the Vatican State!
We spent some time here admiring the marvellous architecture of St. Peter's Square.
