Yorktown, VA, USA - 18th October 2007

Today is the Yorktown Day Celebration. The Americans are commemorating the 226th anniversary of the victory at Yorktown. I am so depressed, we lost! Even the parade and memorial ceremonies coming up cannot shake me from my despair.
The weather mirrors my feelings of depression. It's raining as we drive to historical Yorktown.

The road to the old town is lined with American flags. There's something wrong with them: they don't have 50 stars, one for each state. There's something wrong with me. I don't feel all here and peppy.
Bonnie Voyage has a tight grip on me for some reason, maybe she's afraid she'll slip and fall.

The parade has group after group of military units. This area has Navy, Army, Marine, Coast Guard, and Air Force installations. Swords, guns, manly things.
The Germans and French helped the Americans in the war so they're here too. No English. I'm all alone in my misery.
The local high school bands are marching; we saw Nellie!
More guns and swords and flags whipping around. Hey, this is getting fun.
That man is having a bad hair day!

The town crier, (must be sad because we, well, we didn't win) directed us toward the wreath laying ceremony.
John Rollison, the 13th wealthiest man in the colonies, is tall and imposing.

I want to carry a flag and have pretty women hang on me.
This part is boooring. Who cares about hanging an old wreath on a monument?

We're in Virginia Beach for a feis, an Irish dance and culture competition. Bonnie Voyager wanted to see the dancing.
We got here very late last night but now it's time to be up and going. Is anyone home? Get up!

I taped the bottom of Kat's hard shoes for the hornpipe and jig. I really got into my work.
I can't show you the dances because photographing dancers in motion is grounds for disqualification. It is all very exciting and noisy. Very noisy. Very, very noisy.
Sproing! Sproing!

I'm going to a party, I'm going to a party, party, party!
It's a monkey costume party. Shhhhh, I'm going to dress up as a sock monkey. Nobody will recognize me, you'll see.

I'm off to the party. My costume is packed, I'm going to see my brother Luffy, and I'm going to have a swinging good time!
Bye, Bonnie Voyage. We've had fun times but I've gotta go.
