Vienna, Austria - 5th September 2007

By: ChristinaB

My trip to Austria was pretty short and I savely arrived in Vienna today. I had a warm and friendly welcome from my host and some other toyvoyager which were very curious to see who's in the white envelope... So there were Mini Meow and Mila waiting for me, two inofficial toyvoyagers (Mono is a little cat from Finland and Mila a bigger one from Holland), then there is Béstik, a funny guy from Czech Republic and Archibald, a very colourful monkey from France. I guess we'll have an exciting time together!

I was told that we'll start sightseeing either tomorrow or on Friday (it depends on the weather because at the moment it is pretty freezy...)

Vienna, Austria - 13th September 2007

By: ChristinaB

As our host promised we did some sightseeing yesterday. The weather still wasn't very friendly but at least it stopped raining and so Bestik, Kleo and I had a walk in the city center of Vienna.

First we saw the City Hall. There is a big square in front of it and our host told us that in winter the Christmas market takes place there. What a pity that I arrived a bit too early... Just opposite the City Hall there is the Old Imperial theatre - a very beautiful building.

We went on to the Parliament then. Oh, I was almost run over by a tramway, but luckily nothing really happened!

After this shock we really needed a break so we rested in a little park in front of the museum of natural history a bit. Have a look which funny ball-shaped trees they have there!!

Vienna, Austria - 13th September 2007

By: ChristinaB

Well, afterwards we continued our walk and went through the gate "Heldentor" which means something like hero... Perfect for me, hm?? We passed by Hofburg then. I was told that it was the residence of the Habsburg family but nowadays it hosts the national library, some museums and the president's office.

We went on to the absolute centre of Vienna where we found many typical cafés. One of them you can see here... Unfortunately we were a bit in a hurry so we didn't have time to sit inside but we watched through the windows and guess what we saw! A Lipizzaner horse completely made of sugar!! Imagine you are a horse and find yourself made of sugar standing in a shop window - isn't this crazy??? How glad am I to be a pig! We didn't see the real horses because they are still on holiday (they always spend summer in Styria I was told - lucky horses! That's what they get as a salary for being a sugar model!!)

Well, then we passed by St. Stephen's cathedral. It has such a colourful roof - I was really impressed. I like colourful things, did you already know that?

We ended our city walk at the opera. Our host told us to come back in February because then the famous opera ball will take place there. I just wonder if they would let me go in...

Vienna, Austria - 23rd September 2007

By: ChristinaB

Yesterday my new friends and I visited Schönbrunn Palace. It was a wonderful sunny day so we had a looong walk in the park (Daisy and I tried the gras there but I must say I've already eaten more tasty things...) and even went up a hill to "Gloriette" which is really nice point of view. We passed by the Palmhouse and our host even took us to the zoo there. Have a look whom we met there!

Salzkammergut, Austria - 1st October 2007

By: ChristinaB

The previous weekend my friends and I were invited to go to the countryside to an area called "Salzkammergut". We were told that it is in Upper Austria and that it is very beautiful there, so Kleo, Tanusha, Daisy and I were very excited when we went there. Our host's parents live there, and indeed, we had a wonderful time there!

We went up a little mountain close to lake Traunsee from where we had a wonderful view over the lake and the mountains around there. When we came down we visited a very special castle: Schloss Orth. It consists of 2 parts: the "normal castle" (you can see me in front of it together with Tanusha) and the water castle which is located on a little island in the lake. Very beautiful! Unfortunately it was almost evening when we got there so the pictures came out a bit dark...

We also went to lake Attersee, not far from the other lake. Unfortunately in September it's already too cold in Austria for having a swim in a lake but I was told that my host family spent a wonderful summer holiday here ;)

Salzkammergut, Austria - 1st October 2007

By: ChristinaB

There happened something really exciting during my stay in Upper Austria. We saw a balloon landing close to the house of my host's parents! We already watched it a while before coming closer and closer and then it really came down. Especially for my host's kids it was really really exciting, but I must admit, I was fascinated, too. Never ever in my whole pig-life I saw such a huge balloon soooo close before!!

Vienna, Austria - 13th October 2007

By: ChristinaB

Last weekend on Saturday there was a perfect autumn day so my hosts decided to go to the woods with us and search for some mushrooms. It lasted only a short while until we found the first one. Poisonous! It was the same with the next one... but then!!! Finally we found a really delicious mushroom and Daisy and I were sooo proud of ourselves. Such a Piggy-nose is really good for seaching mushrooms!!!

Vienna, Austria - 13th October 2007

By: ChristinaB

I stayed in Vienna for quite some time and it was wonderful here, but unfortunately somewhen the big day came and I had to continue my journey. But the day before I left for Hungary my hosts showed me some more sights of Vienna I didn't know so far: the famous Giant Wheel and Danube tower.

I'm really looking forward to my next stop in Hungary but I'm also a bit sad to leave Vienna and all the friends I found here. Good bye - tschüß und ba-ba!!

Budapest, Hungary - 31st October 2007

By: Szandra

As I promised, here are some photos!:)
One of my big dreams became true, I danced Irish step.
Szandra is learning Irish dances from Catherine Gallagher who was the champion of Ireland and got the 3rd place in World Championships. She was also the dancer of Riverdance. Now she is living in Hungary and has a big dance school. I was really happy when I could visit a training!:) Unfortunately we took pictures only at home bacause there are always big strictness in the lessons! :stare:

Miskolc, Hungary - 2nd November 2007

By: Szandra

When the weather became better we made a little excursion to Miskolc. And we went to see Lillafüred which is also a part of the city. The autumn scenery was very nice, the leaves on the trees were so colourful. We walked around the big lake. That was an exhausting, but really nice day!:)
Unfortunately our camera went wrong, so the pics were made by phone, sorry for the bad quality!
