Bedburg, near Cologne, Germany - 2nd January 2008

By: Tine1969

Hi,

my host Tine told me about my duties - now I know that I have to write in this travelog myself, because my host has to work. What a pity :) !

I arrived safely in  Bedburg on the 24.12.2007. This was great because I thought I had to celebrate Christmas in my box at the post office.

I had some nice days at my host's home. At the end of last year we had been on a trip to the "Herrenhäuser Gärten" (Gärten means Garden) in Hannover. It was really cold but nice.

Then we visited some friends of my host - and I can tell you that my host also took some photos. She promised me to show you them during the next days.

Bye for now,

Gulliver

On the first day of the new year I met a black dog called Ari - at first I was afraid, but then I liked him, because he liked me too.

I hope you like the photos my host had taken. I think I had already fulfilled the first of my mission, or what do you think?

Hello,

during the last week I went with my host Tine on a walk next to her home. We started in her quarter named Alt-Kaster, which is really old. The first photo was taken of the window of a house next to my host.

Hi Everybody!

After some days in Paris I visited Bedburg castle and park together with Galen. Although it was a bit cold we had a nice and sunny time there. Please look at the photos.

Düsseldorf, Germany - 9th February 2008

By: Tine1969

Hi Everybody!

Last weekend Galen and I travelled to the Media Habour in Düsseldorf - a quarter with many high buildings, some of them look quite funny. You can see the TV-Tower, the building of the WDR (broadcaster in North Rhine-Westphalia), the Geary-Building (the funny buildings without "corners") and the parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. Of course you can see parts of the river Rhine too.

I hope you like my photos - these are the last ones from Germany - now I am on my way to Vienna in Austria to visit my next host.

Bye-bye,
Gulliver

Vienna, Austria - 16th February 2008

By: ChristinaB

I safely arrived in Austria a few days ago. I'm staying in Vienna with a funny family (they have 3 little boys and tons of toys so I'm sure I won't get bored here at all) and also had a warm welcome from Glory, the little Americain bear also staying here at the moment. I was told that we will go sightseeing soon so I'm curious what I will discover here in Austria

I'm having a great time here in Austria! I already made many friends here and I have a really funny mate: Glory from the USA!

During the past days Glory and I did alot of sightseeing with our host. We went downtown and I saw all the beautiful buildings I only knew from pictures so far.

We started our trip at Hofburg which was the former residence of the Habsburg family. Nowadays it hosts several museums, the Austrian national gallery and the president's office.

In front of Hofburg I saw all these horses with their coaches. They are called "Fiaker" in Austria and in former times they were really used for transport, now they are just tourist attractions.

There are 2 gates at Hofburg I was told. Heldentor and Michaelertor. Both are quite different but beautiful!

We went on to see the Austrian Parliament and the City Hall. In front of the City Hall there is a big square where always some "attractions" take place: Christmas market in December, a circus in June, an open air opera festival in summer and now we found a wonderful skating court there. Since I have already learnt how to skate a bit I would have loved to practise it a bit but we didn't have our shoes with us.

Right opposite of  the City Hall there is the Old Imperial Theatre and next to it I got to see the rosarium. Unfortunately it was the wrong time to see the roses but I discovered a temple in a Greek style there. Strange to find something like that in Austria, hm?

Oh, I forgot to mention that I saw this clock counting down the days, hours and minutes until the European Soccer Championship will start. It will take place in Austria and Switzerland in June this year and everybody is already excited (or even annoyed) about it!

We continued our walk towards the city center. We passed by many beautiful palais' (there are really many of them in Vienna) and reached St. Stephen's Cathedral then. Afterward we walked down the famous shopping street until we arrived at the opera.

There are 2 museums in Vienna which look exactly like twins. One of them is for historical arts and the other one for nature. In between of them there is a park with sculptures and funny ball-shaped trees. Glory and I had great fun playing hide and seek behind them!

Austrians love sweets (just like me ;) )and there are many different kinds of cakes and biscuits and whatever. They also love to sit in Coffee shops and so cafés can really be found at every corner. Have a look what we discovered in the shop window of a very famous coffee shop: the "tree" as well as the easter eggs were completely made out of chocolate and marzipan. MMMMMHHH!
