Venlo, The Netherlands - 18th October 2008

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,

Venlo is situated close to the German border. Many peple from Germany like going shopping in Venlo because you can get some food much cheaper there than in Germany, due to lower taxes. Venlo's history goes back to Roman times. It developed into an important trade post on the river Meuse.

Look, here we are with BlackCat's guests.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3193/2952511262_1cbddc02ce.jpg?v=0

There were also Odette and Titch, they did not want to come out of BlackCats bag - they were a little bit shy.

This is the post office, decorated with the national coat of arms of the Netherlands.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3236/2952511664_351e41f327.jpg?v=0

We went through the old town then.

This is the town hall.

We went to the market then.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3011/2952514456_2571e940b1.jpg?v=0

We took a walk to the river Meuse then. We wrote a postcard to another ToyVoyagers host. We hope she will like the card.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3039/2951666143_87667b3661.jpg?v=0

Back in the old town ... In the Netherlands many peple use bikes to get around. The land is completely flat and they have cycle tracks on almost every road.

A fountain in the old town ...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3004/2952519074_bb2789c12d.jpg?v=0

We saw this store for home decoration.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3170/2951669387_47f0b79067.jpg?v=0

There was a store with a soap bubbles machine at the front door. I had a lot of fun when I tried to catch the bubbles.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3038/2951671163_c91002f1ac.jpg?v=0

Then it was already time to go back to the station. In Wuppertal we left the train and went home by bus.

Bye
Theodore

Remscheid-Hasten, Germany - 20th October 2008

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,
today the weather was still fantastic and we took another long walk in the forrest.

We started our trip in Remscheid-Hasten, one of the oldest districts of Remscheid. Soon we reached the border of the muncipal area.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3136/2958500881_386876e429.jpg?v=0

I love climbing, even when it is only a hoarding.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3056/2959344558_0ed4efb896.jpg?v=0

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3021/2961424796_b94016e26d.jpg?v=0

We planned to walk to Wuppertal-Cronenberg. Wuppertal is the neighbour town of Remscheid. To get there we had to cross a valley and walk up steep uphill through the forrest.

We rested on a bench and enjoyed the sun.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3161/2958470719_939fcae04f.jpg?v=0

The next rest took place on a barrier.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3018/2959314582_664db4674b.jpg?v=0

Then I was climbing up and down some trees.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3148/2959344876_566e8934e2.jpg?v=0

We walked through a small hamlet, containing about six old houses.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3009/2958502177_0986059f8a.jpg?v=0

This little house is even situated alone in the middle of the forrest, like a whitchhouse in a fairy tale.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3196/2961431160_665d2c8271.jpg?v=0

There was a bridge across a creek. If you looked to the ground you could see the water flowing.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3293/2961431258_b947d02e78.jpg?v=0

Later we had to cross the same creek, this time there was no bridge. We had to climb and jump over stones.

Wuppertal-Cronenberg, Germany - 20th October 2008

By: olgamaus

When we reached Wuppertal-Cronenberg, we saw many nice old houses and also an old church, built in 1767 A.D.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3026/2961431688_b7a3a1c49f.jpg?v=0

It was already getting dark when we went home. We were really tired afterwards. We all had a hot tea and fell asleep soon.

Remscheid, Germany - 21st October 2008

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,
when I woke up in the morning I was i a bad temper soon. Outside it was raining like hell. No more sunshine, no walk in the forrest today.

Instead we went with Katja to her working place. She is working in a law firm. There is my photo on her monitor!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3234/2961299601_3004eb947e.jpg?v=0

Then we went to her colleage to keep her from working too much.

Remscheid, Germany - 29th October 2008

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,

today we took a walk along the "Route of Tools", a lane for pedestrians and cyclers which was built on a closed railway track.

Before let me show you where I live at the moment. Our flat is in the attic storey of one of those nice old houses, they are built in the early 1900s.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3180/2985864019_8592709ab5.jpg?v=0

We are on our way to the route of tools now.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3165/2985864955_faa55745e9.jpg?v=0

The route of tools is a lane for pedestrians and cyclists, built on a closed railway track. It is about 5 km long and you can walk throuth the town without getting into much contact with traffic. You can find distance data on the ground, for example to a museum and the next district.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3180/2985865123_491d565385.jpg?v=0

Here is one of the few points where you have to cross a road.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3270/2986721314_15c52b7fc1.jpg?v=0

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3020/2985865467_59f6feef94.jpg?v=0

We rested on a bench that was made of a giant srew clamp.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3071/2985873543_071e4d7010.jpg?v=0

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3003/2985873711_e9d85991a5.jpg?v=0

Later we took a short walk through the forrest. It was already getting dark so we did not make many photos.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3169/2985874017_0c9e4affee.jpg?v=0

(Katja bought a lot of walnuts on the farmer's market today. I'm already planning a walnut-raid in the night.)
