San Francisco area, California, USA - 14th January 2009

Hi Mom!
I made it, wow! That was a long journey from BC, I almost didn't make it to San Francisco in time to get my ticket on the Hope Train. Good thing my hosts are always late!
Here I am arriving at the Post Office in Point Reyes Station. My hosts said they just couldn't wait to open my parcel until they got home. I was glad to get out and breathe. And meet new friends!
Here I am with Jim, the Postmaster. He was funny!
Here I am with some fellow voyagers who live at the Post Office. They're not catalogued ToyVoyagers like I am, they got lost by someone at the Post Office. I hope they find a way to travel the world like I did!
My hosts live on the coast, by the Pacific Ocean, near San Francisco. It is soooo beautiful here. My hosts said they needed to run some errands in Petaluma before they headed out on the Hope Train for Obama's Inauguration in DC. I got to come along for the ride!
Then we discussed our route, and I pointed my trunk to where I was...
Then we went to a Mexican restaurant. My hosts said that some people reading this blog might not have seen a Mexican restaurant before so they took a photo of the menu.
I had Guacamole and Chips and Salsa. Mmmm!
A bit too much Mexican food, haha! So yummy. Don't worry mom, I didn't have the beer, that was my host's relative.
After that we went to what my hosts told me would be the first of MANY trips to Starbucks. I thought it would be a fun idea to get a photo with all the baristas at all the Starbucks on my Hope Train adventure, so here are the first girls. They were so sweet, and they let me sit on the cups!
And then I got a super awesome surprise when I met a fellow countryman - this is Doug from Australia. He even pulled a 2 dollar Australian coin out of my ear to prove it!
I finally got to go to my new home and rest while my hosts packed their stuff. I got to meet my awesome new friends - Moffie (the puppy), Ian (the monkey), Pepe (the mouse) and Yogurt (the red puppy). We are all traveling on the Hope Train together, we're so excited.
We finally set off, when we left I got to see the beautiful view from my host's street. This is the bay at Bolinas, California....isn't it so idyllic?
On our way out of town we went to Mythic Pizza, in the Lower Haight district of San Francisco. My hosts said they wanted to come here because this is where they were when they found out Obama had won the election. Plus they have REALLY good pizza...California style.
Then we went to another Starbucks (I told you!) in the Castro district of San Francisco, my hosts said that it's the best Starbucks in the city because the gay men are very fussy about their drinks.
That's all for now mom, we're driving down Highway 5 towards Bakersfield, hopefully we'll see Arizona and New Mexico tomorrow. It's really late so I'm gonna go to bed now.

Mojave, California, USA - 14th January 2009

Hi Mom!
Wow, I'm having so much fun. We just stopped at a fruit stand where we got really yummy fresh oranges and nuts. They had fudge samples which were the best I'd ever tasted, but my hosts said we're watching our weight so we just got fruit. We just passed through Bakersfield (it was really boring), now we're driving through Mojave. My hosts told me that in the 90s there was a phone booth in the middle of the desert called the Mojave Desert Phone Booth. It was an internet phenomenon (like the hamster dance), and people would come from all over to visit the phone booth in the middle of nowhere, and people from all over the world would call it. Until the government took it down.
It's really hot here, and the sun is shining...but there is a cold snap in the midwest so I think I'll be seeing snow soon - maybe even later today!
We passed a lot of those trees like they have on the cover of the album The Joshua Tree by U2, and also lots of wind mills which help power California in an environmentally safe way!
